ANDREW COUNTY —Two people were injured in an accident just before 5:30p.m. Friday in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2018 Toyota RAV4 driven by Janice T. Stewart, 70, Savannah, was northbound on Business 71 at CR 345 five miles south of Savannah.

The SUV rear-ended a 2013 Jeep Wrangler driven by Jennifer L. Folks,56, St. Joseph, that had slowed to make left turn.

Andrew County ambulance transported both drivers to Mosaic Life Care. They were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

The Chrysler rear-ended a 2000 Jeep Cherokee driven by Russell E. Plummer, 71, Gower, who was stopped in traffic. The impact pushed the Jeep into a northbound 2004 Honda Civic driven by Macy L. Chadd, 30, Cameron, who had slowed to make a left turn into a private drive.

Tri-County ambulance transported Plummer and a passenger in the 70-year-old Dianna Plummer to Mosaic Life Care. Chadd and Plackemeier were not injured. All four were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Gower couple injured after 3-vehicle crash

Women athletes celebrate expanded opportunities in collegiate
sports this year, the 50th year of Title IX.

But now women’s athletics has a new challenge to face.

Title IX, as federal legislation, sought to level the
collegiate playing field for women’s athletics.

Missouri Western State University Senior Woman Administrator,
Theresa Grosbach, says it is important to remember the strides made over the
years.

“I remember my Mom saying when she went to high school, it was
tennis and golf and swimming were what was on the table for her and how much she
would have enjoyed to play basketball or play volleyball and that opportunity
just didn’t exist for her,” Grosbach tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline.

Grosbach remembers women’s rules in basketball growing up in
Iowa and is thankful women now play full-court five-on-five just like the men
do.

Women’s athletics is now faced with the issue of transgender
participation.

Grosbach says the MIAA Conference has yet to establish rules
on the participation of transgender athletes in women’s competition. Grosbach
says MIAA members have been discussing the controversial topic and expects the
conference to follow national guidance on what she calls an ‘ever evolving’
issue.

“And so part of what we did these last couple of days was look
again at where the policy is, what is the new information coming from the NCAA,
and do we need to make any adjustments?” Grosbach says. “And, ultimately, that
conversation starts with (the) Directors of Athletics and Senior Women
Administrators and works its way up to the presidents in our league to kind of
review the policy, information we put forward, and for them to make a final
determination if we’re comfortable with it as a league.”

Grosbach says Missouri Western will lean on the conference and
the NCAA to decide its rules for transgender athletes.

Women celebrate 50th anniversary of Title IX even as a new issue crops up

Herp-O-Rama returns to the Remington Nature Center.

The coronavirus pandemic shut the popular program down for two
years. It is back on Saturday at the center in St. Joseph.

Naturalist Shelly Cox says she’s glad to bring Herp-O-Rama
back.

“It’s probably the most popular event that we have at the nature
center. We find that even individuals who have a fear of snakes or other
reptiles, they’re still curious about them, the still want to know about them,
sometimes from a great distance, but they still want to know,” Cox says with a
laugh.

Cox says this is a great event to help you
get over your fear of snakes, reptiles, and amphibians.

“So, sometimes we even get people out there that have phobias or
fears and they’re just coming to learn how to identify things, learn what might
be dangerous in their area, and we’re very happy to provide that educational
component to this event,” Cox says.

Perhaps the star of Herp-O-Rama is the axolotl.

Cox says a video game has featured the odd-looking amphibian,
making him famous among youth.

“Minecraft has really put the axolotls out there for kids,” Cox
says. “It’s so funny. We do these programs at school. As soon as we mention that
we have axolotls, the kids just go crazy. We do have those there, which are
Mexican Salamanders, and they’ll get to see them.”

Cox says Herp-O-Rama is one of Remington’s most popular shows.

It begins Saturday morning at 10 o’clock at the center,
located 1502 McArthur Drive, St. Joseph.

Snakes, turtles, even axolotls:  Herp-O-Rama returns

A clinic being held this weekend by the Missouri Department of Conservation will teach women gun safety and how to use various firearms. &nbsp;

Parker Rice Corporal with the Department in Buchanan County says the clinic on Sunday filled up very quickly. &nbsp;

Rice says he believes the popularity of the course stems from a general curiosity about guns.&nbsp;

"And where else can someone go and get the quality of instruction they're going to receive for free, shooting free ammo, potentially free ammo, and get a broad array of firearms to shoot it out of?" Rice tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "I mean I don't know anywhere else that you can do that."&nbsp;

Rice says that while this clinic filled up quickly, there will be another in the future.&nbsp; The date is still to be determined.&nbsp;

Rice Corporal says he stumbled upon the idea to hold a clinic for women thanks to his background in firearm instruction with the department.&nbsp;

"Some guys if they're interested in firearms, or learning about them, probably have a friend that has some firearms that they can consult," Rice explains. "I just thought I would pitch it to women to see if the interest was there and it looks like it is."&nbsp;

The clinic was open to women age 18 and older. &nbsp;

Rice says the clinic will begin with a dry fire clinic at the department shop building.&nbsp;

After a short break for lunch, Rice says they will then move down the hill to the shooting range at the conservation area. &nbsp;

"It's just going to be a basic live fire clinic as far as we're going to shoot different targets in a pretty relaxed environment, I've got several real quality instructors coming in to help me with this so we can maintain a safe range but just get the opportunity to shoot a wide variety of firearms at their own pace," Rice says.&nbsp;

The clinic at the shooting range will go from noon to 5pm.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Conservation Department reaches out to women on gun safety

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged domestic incident in Atchison.

On Thursday, police arrested 22-year-old Simuel N. Bingham of St. Joseph in the 1200 block of Highland Avenue in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Bingmam was jailed on a requested charge of domestic battery. He posted bond and is no longer in custody, according to online jail records.

A deer ran into the roadway, struck the motorcycle and the Kawasaki&nbsp; overturned.&nbsp;

EMS transported Wood to Amberwell Health. He was wearing a helmet, according to the KHP.

Baby formula shortages are an ongoing problem and officials at a northeast Kansas health clinic are seeing the effects. &nbsp;

August Mason Women, Infants, and Children, or WIC, Coordinator for the Doniphan County Health Department in Troy says she is seeing the effects of the formula crisis and her department is fielding calls every day.&nbsp;

"It's really having a more pronounced effect on the people who have specialty formulas, such as Nutramigen or Alimentum, for the other formulas we are able to kind of switch out from formula to formula," Mason tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.&nbsp;

Mason says the inquiries she receives most everyday are questions of where formula can be found.&nbsp;

But she says the other big question she hears almost daily, is what kinds of formulas can be interchanged.&nbsp;

"We have a very detailed list of what kinds of formulas can be interchanged, in addition WIC has been very liberal with what options we can use and what formula changeability there is," Mason explains&nbsp;

Mason says most formulas that aren't specialty based can be interchanged for other formula brands. &nbsp;

She also says a number of new mothers in Doniphan County have begun shifting to breastfeeding their babies.&nbsp;

The department recently released a list of helpful dos and don'ts that mothers can follow to keep their children safe.&nbsp; One tip was advising against making homemade formula. &nbsp;

Mason says people shouldn't attempt to make homemade formula because most homes don't have the necessary ingredients.&nbsp;

"They have vitamins, minerals, DHA's, RHA's, they have different things that you can't get from making your own," Mason says. "Plus, if you were to make your own it's not pasteurized."&nbsp;

Mason says the department just doesn't want mothers to try something that might harm their children. Health officials want mothers to be fully informed.&nbsp;

Doniphan County Health Department works to help mothers during baby formula shortage

Three new exhibits highlight the summer offerings of the Albrecht-Kemper
Museum of Art in St. Joseph.

Communications Director Jill Carlson says one of the exhibits
is by a Kansas City photographer.

“We’ve got a series of photographs by an artist out of Kansas
City named Deanna Dikeman and her series is called, ‘Leaving and waving,’”
Carlson tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline.

Carlson says Dikeman captured images of her parents over the
years as she left their home in Iowa. A series of photos of her parents waving
goodbye from their driveway over the course of 27 years is captured poignantly
in 90 photographs.

An exhibition of 13 sculptures created by Ariel Bowman is,
according to Albrecht-Kemper, an unlikely collaboration inspired by the gilded
age of discovery and by prehistoric animals. The collection includes free-stand
clocks, candelabras, “and kinetic wall sculptures depicting whimsical extinct
animals in precarious positions.”

The sculptures include clocks, but all the clocks run
backwards.

The third exhibit is the Found Objects exhibit, art created by
various items distributed to artists by Albrecht-Kemper.

“Over the past six months, we’ve been distributing objects to
different people who want to participate in this exhibition,” Carlson explains.
“And they are creating art about or from or with their found object.”

Carlson says the exhibit should really spark some
conversations.

“I think people will be delighted and astonished what can
happen from each of those pieces.”

Albrecht-Kemper Executive Director Eric Fuson says artists
have created art in several difference mediums from the objects, including
sculptures, drawings, photography, and others.

The exhibitions kick off late Friday afternoon, June the 17th,
with a reception. They will remain on display until September 11th.

New and different exhibits highlight Albrecht-Kemper summer offerings

The St. Joseph Mustangs are known for doing different theme nights throughout the summer during home games at Phil Welch Stadium.

This summer, the Mustangs are making history with one of their theme nights, as Thursday, June 9 will be 'Women in Sports Night' when the Mustangs face the Wellington Heat at 7 p.m.

Manager Johnny Coy will be assisted in coaching that night by a pair of Missouri Western softball coaches - pitching coach Lexi Kinnaird and grad assistant coach Sammey Bunch. Together, they will be the first women to ever coach in a Mustangs game.

"To be able to work with (Sammey) this past year, she's extremely knowledgeable about the game," Kinnaird said. "So, it'll be cool to see her in this kind of setting and how she'll kind of branch out."

Mustangs general manager and owner Ky Turner, who usually comes up with these different theme nights along with his staff, says Women in Sports Night was all coach Coy's idea.

"I give all kudos to Johnny on this idea," Turner said. "I think he was watching MLB and they were talking about women in sports and in MLB and the growth of women in the game and the importance of that, and we 100 percent agree with that. You saw Regan Nash play here."

Nash, a Camden Point native, North Platte alum and all-SEC softball player at Mizzou, was the first woman to play in a Mustangs uniform and play in the MINK League in the summer of 2018.

Kinnaird says Coy reached out to her and Bunch via Instagram message and asked if they'd like to be a part of Women in Sports Night. The two agreed, not knowing just how popular and exciting this would become.

"Sammey and I both said yes," Kinnaird said. "From there, it kind of blew up into this Women in Sports Night, which I think is awesome. I just don't think I was fully anticipating it to be to the extent that it is, I guess."

Kinnaird coaches pitchers for Missouri Western, where she just wrapped up her third season on staff. While she doesn't yet know what her exact in-game role will be Thursday, Kinnaird knows it's no small task to help coach a team that's won seven MINK League titles and is going for their third in a row.

"They're really trying to win a third (straight) championship," Kinnaird said. "So, this isn't just like a show up and joke around and play baseball. This is like, they're still playing to win. So, for us to go there and be able to have success while we're there would be super awesome."

Missouri Western has employed numerous female assistant and grad assistant coaches in recent years, and currently employs female head coaches in lacrosse, volleyball and women's basketball.

Kinnaird says being in an athletic department that's so supportive of women working in sports has helped prepare her for moments like these.

"To be a female in a place where people support females so much has been extremely empowering," she said. "It just makes you feel like you can go and do things like coach a baseball team or be a coach eventually in your career. So, it's been great."

Together, they will be the first women to ever coach in a Mustangs game."To be able to work with (Sammey) this past year, she's extremely knowledgeable about the game," Kinnaird said. "So, it'll be cool to see her in this kind of setting and how she'll kind of branch out."Mustangs general manager and owner Ky Turner, who usually comes up with these different theme nights along with his staff, says Women in Sports Night was all coach Coy's idea."I give all kudos to Johnny on this idea," Turner said. "I think he was watching MLB and they were talking about women in sports and in MLB and the growth of women in the game and the importance of that, and we 100 percent agree with that. You saw Regan Nash play here."Nash, a Camden Point native, North Platte alum and all-SEC softball player at Mizzou, was the first woman to play in a Mustangs uniform and play in the MINK League in the summer of 2018.Kinnaird says Coy reached out to her and Bunch via Instagram message and asked if they'd like to be a part of Women in Sports Night. The two agreed, not knowing just how popular and exciting this would become."Sammey and I both said yes," Kinnaird said. "From there, it kind of blew up into this Women in Sports Night, which I think is awesome. I just don't think I was fully anticipating it to be to the extent that it is, I guess."Kinnaird coaches pitchers for Missouri Western, where she just wrapped up her third season on staff. Mustangs make history tonight:  first female coaches take the field

Washington, D.C.&nbsp;– Congressman Sam Graves introduced STOP II: the Secure Every School and Protect Our Nation’s Children Act&nbsp;and voted against gun control legislation.

“Our children deserve to be safe at school. But, the gun control measures presented today—some of which have already been found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court and federal district courts—would do little to stop future tragedies while trampling on the rights of law-abiding citizens," Graves said in a statement from his office.

"We need to focus on real solutions, like giving our schools the tools they need to provide adequate protection to our students and teachers, enforcing the laws we already have on the books, supporting America’s police officers and protecting the ability of law-abiding Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”

“That’s why I’m proud to introduce the&nbsp;Secure Every School and Protect our Nation’s Children Act, which would direct more resources to improve mental health programs for students and secure our schools. We spend billions protecting politicians—including the President. We should at least show the same dedication to protecting our children.”

Congressman Graves joined 24 of his colleagues in introducing the&nbsp;STOP II: the Secure Every School and Protect Our Nation’s Children Act&nbsp;which would repurpose $7 billion in unspent COVID-19 relief to prevent and respond to a range of school safety threats and emergency situations through increased community policing, school resource officers, and a greater focus on mental health in schools. The legislation builds upon the bipartisan&nbsp;STOP School Violence Act&nbsp;signed into law in 2018.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Congressman Graves voted against H.R. 7910 which bans 18 to 20-year-olds from purchasing certain semi-automatic rifles or shotguns.&nbsp;A similar restriction in California was recently ruled unconstitutional by a federal court.&nbsp;Additionally, the omnibus measure dictates how firearms are stored in private homes. Similar restrictions were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in&nbsp;DC v. Heller. It also bans the sale of&nbsp;firearm magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds&nbsp;and creates a buyback program for&nbsp;them.&nbsp;<a href="https://journalistsresource.org/health/gun-buybacks-what-the-research-says/" target="_blank">Decades of research show similar gun buyback programs haven’t worked.</a>

Congressman Graves is an original cosponsor of the&nbsp;Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which would allow Americans permitted to carry a concealed firearm in one state to exercise their Second Amendment right to defend themselves in any state that allows its residents to carry concealed firearms. He is also a cosponsor of the&nbsp;BLUE Act&nbsp;and the&nbsp;Protect and Serve Act&nbsp;which would stop communities from shuffling around federal dollars to defund the police and increase penalties for criminals who target police officers.&nbsp;

Graves introduces school security bill, votes against gun control measures

The level of new COVID-19 cases in Buchanan County is not as high as it once was, but St. Joseph health officials are monitoring a slight increase.

Buchanan County went from averaging 5.83 cases per day in April to 12.37 per day in May. St. Joseph health department spokesperson Stephanie Malita says they're watching this closely, but she says these numbers still aren't as bad as it was during the height of the pandemic.

"So, it's trending upwards a little bit," Malita told St. Joseph Post, "but, we're not, again, seeing the hospitalization rate or the death rate. We're not as worried about it as we were six months ago or even three months ago."

Statewide, Missouri has reported more than 8,600 cases in the last seven days. Hospitalizations have gone up a bit as well statewide, with 574 patients hospitalized with COVID.

Locally, the hospitalization and COVID death rate remain low. St. Joseph health officials report one virus-related fatality in May and one so far in June, while Mosaic Life Care reports fewer than 10 patients systemwide.

The good news is more people are starting to get their first COVID-19 shot and booster in Buchanan County.

"We have seen an increase of over 450 people who have now moved into the fully vaccinated category," Malita said, "and about the same amount who have had their first dose."

A step in the right direction, but Malita says Buchanan County's vaccination rate lags behind with still less than 40 percent of residents fully vaccinated.

"That's low certainly compared to throughout the state and nationwide," she said. "So, we would like to see that increase. Primary care providers are offering the vaccine, pharmacies are offering vaccine, we offer it here. There are many, many places where people can get vaccinated."

Malita says another COVID surge is possible, but she believes hospitals and medical practitioners are better prepared to handle it now than ever before.

"Obviously, our hope is we don't see a surge that leads to higher hospitalizations and so on in the future," Malita said. "But, it could happen again. I feel like logistically, we're better prepared or have learned from the last couple of years. But, it's a matter of everyone pitching in and doing what they need to do."

But, in order to prevent another COVID surge, Malita says those safety practices remain the same, and notes that everybody can do their part in keeping each other safe.

"Stay home if you're ill and find out for certain what you have when you're not feeling well," Malita said. "Continue to wash hands, wear masks if you're in a public area if you're in close contact with people you're unfamiliar with."

St. Joseph health officials monitoring uptick in COVID cases locally

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a man on felony charges.

On Monday, police arrested 37-year-old Matthew G. Bryan, 37,&nbsp; of St. Marys, on a Wabaunsee County warrant for bond revocation, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

He was tranfered from in Atchison County on Tuesday.

Kansas man jailed for allegedly violating bond

ANDREW COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 1p.m. Tuesday in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Dodge Caravan driven by Phillip E. Thompson, 61, Warrensburg, was northbound on Business 71 at Interstate 29.

The driver failed to yield right of way and pulled into the path of a southbound 2016 Volvo passenger vehicle driven by Larry R. Nelson, 52, Savannah.

Andrew County EMS transported Nelson to Mosaic Life Care. Thompson was not injured.

Savannah man hospitalized after 2-vehicle crash

COVID-19 cases had risen slightly in the state of Kansas in May, but new case numbers have steadied out for the most part. Kansas reports an average of 359 new cases over the last seven days as of May 30.

Doniphan County health director Sheryl Pierce says they only have two confirmed positive cases in the county currently.

"What we think, though, is that we likely have a lot more positive (cases) than that," Pierce told St. Joseph Post, "with everybody using their home tests. Home tests are not verified or confirmed by us. They're not worked up as a positive case so to speak."

About 37.6 percent of Doniphan County residents above the age of five have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, which is over 2,700 residents.

The Doniphan County Health Department in Troy still offers vaccine clinics every Wednesday from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 - 4 p.m.

The CDC on May 19 expanded eligibility for COVID-19 booster shots for kids ages 5-11. It is recommended that young children get their booster five months after their primary shots.

Pierce says their clinic in Troy has started to see younger kids getting boosters, but also other various age groups getting their primary doses.

"We are getting new primary clients who are coming in and getting their first dose also," she said. "So, that's a positive for us. We're real pleased about that. We certainly do recommend that booster. We don't know with the weather change in the fall if COVID is going to come back with a vengeance or not."

The health department also offers free testing to those who come in needing a test. Pierce says at-home tests are also available at their Troy clinic, and she says they're not a bad option.

"We also have free home tests we would pass out to anybody that just wants to have them on hand," Pierce pointed out. "It works out very good if they become ill on a weekend. Then, they can test prior to going to a religious service on Sunday. Instead of exposing people, you can get tested."

A new St. Joseph City councilmember insists the new city
council means to fulfill the campaign promises of its members.

Councilmember Jeff Schomburg says the council campaigned on
focusing on the basics:&nbsp; public safety
and infrastructure.

“If we can keep that crime level down, help out on the
infrastructure, help out on a lot of the things that we campaigned on, we can
make St. Joe a better place,” Schomburg tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr.

Schomburg says the council knows it must increase the pay of
police officers and firefighters to adequately address public safety. It goes
beyond that as well. Schomburg says the city must provide police, firefighters,
and safety personnel with the equipment to do their job. He says pay will have
to be increased to find and keep qualified personnel.

“Again, I think we’re going to still focus on those things and
try to get that done as quickly as possible.”

The St. Joseph City Council is currently working on the next
city budget, which must be in place by the end of the month.

Schomburg, a businessman, says he is learning that while city
government is a big business, it doesn’t quite operate like a business.

“And it takes a little bit more time to get something done
through government, because you’re doing through meetings and everybody’s got
to vote on it and it has to be first read,” according to Schomburg. “So, it’s a
month-long process where a small business, like myself, we just, oh, we need
that, so we just go out and buy it.”

Schomburg says he is finding that he needs more patience to
implement the priorities of his campaign.

St. Joseph councilmember vows council will fulfill campaign promises

Soon to be former Northwest Missouri State University President John Jasinski will take over as the interim provost at Missouri State University.

The announcement of Jasinski was made by Missouri State President Clif Smart today [Tues.].

Jasinski will leave Northwest at the end of the month after his contract was not renewed by the Board of Regents. He has been President at the University since 2009.

He will take over the position for one year beginning July 1st, with some flexibility to extend the contract another year if needed.

Soon to be former Northwest President named Interim Provost at Missouri State

The Pony Express is riding again all the way from St. Joseph to Sacramento, California. &nbsp;

The 2022 National Re-Ride of the express kicked off in St. Joseph in front of the Patee House Museum, where it began on April 3rd, 1860.&nbsp;

Director of the Patee House Museum Gary Chilcote says many people know about the Pony Express, and most believe it lasted 20 years.&nbsp;

"But it didn't at all, it left from St. Joseph on April 3rd, 1860 and it lasted 18 and a half months, so we think that it's important enough that we should try to keep the story alive," Chilcote tells reporters.&nbsp;

And that's why Chilcote and the National Pony Express Association put together the annual Re-Ride, which began yesterday.&nbsp;

"Today we started them over to Elwood, Kansas, but over the next ten days there will be about 600 riders sitting on that mochila carrying it all the way to Sacramento, California," Chilcote says.&nbsp;

Rider Penny Orrick from Easton was the first rider this year.&nbsp; She says riding in the annual reenactment is something she's been doing for 21 years. &nbsp;

"Started when I was 15, I was volunteering at the museum and Gary found out I had horses and so he asked if I would be willing to ride in it," Orrick explains. "And I said of course because I've always been a horse crazy girl so, just one more reason to get on a horse and ride."&nbsp;

Orrick says for her the only inspiration she needed to do this ride for all these years is her love of horses.

"Just the fact that I can be a part of history that involves horses, ever since I was little, I had horses plastered all over my room, so then finding out that horses played a huge part in history and being able to help reenact that, for me anyway that's probably the most exciting part of it for me," Orrick says.&nbsp;

Orrick kicked off the journey from St. Joseph to Sacramento, California before handing it off to riders from the Kansas chapter of the National Pony Express Association in Elwood, Kansas.

 </figure>By MATT PIKESt. Joseph PostThe Pony Express is riding again all the way from St. Joseph to Sacramento, California. &nbsp;The 2022 National Re-Ride of the express kicked off in St. Joseph in front of the Patee House Museum, where it began on April 3rd, 1860.&nbsp;Director of the Patee House Museum Gary Chilcote says many people know about the Pony Express, and most believe it lasted 20 years.&nbsp;"But it didn't at all, it left from St. Joseph on April 3rd, 1860 and it lasted 18 and a half months, so we think that it's important enough that we should try to keep the story alive," Chilcote tells reporters.&nbsp;And that's why Chilcote and the National Pony Express Association put together the annual Re-Ride, which began yesterday.&nbsp;"Today we started them over to Elwood, Kansas, but over the next ten days there will be about 600 riders sitting on that mochila carrying it all the way to Sacramento, California," Chilcote says.&nbsp;<figure>

 </figure>Rider Penny Orrick from Easton was the first rider this year.&nbsp; She says riding in the annual reenactment is something she's been doing for 21 years. &nbsp;"Started when I was 15, I was volunteering at the museum and Gary found out I had horses and so he asked if I would be willing to ride in it," Orrick explains. "And I said of course because I've always been a horse crazy girl so, just one more reason to get on a horse and ride."&nbsp;Orrick says for her the only inspiration she needed to do this ride for all these years is her love of horses."Just the fact that I can be a part of history that involves horses, ever since I was little, I had horses plastered all over my room, so then finding out that horses played a huge part in history and being able to help reenact that, for me anyway that's probably the most exciting part of it for me," Orrick says.&nbsp;Orrick kicked off the journey from St. Joseph to Sacramento, California before handing it off to riders from the Kansas chapter of the National Pony Express Association in Elwood, Kansas.<figure>

The Pony Express rides again as part of annual tradition

LIVINGSTON COUNTY —A Missouri man died in an accident just after 4p.m. Monday in Livingston County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Kawasaki UTV driven by Russell W. Bowe, 82, Chillicothe, was northbound in a field along Medicine Creek. The UTV slid on mud and overturned. The driver was ejected out of the drivers side door and and came to rest under the vehicle.

Bowe was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Lindley Funeral Home.&nbsp;

82-year-old Missouri man dies after UTV accident

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a domestic disturbance that occurred May 26 at a home in the 500 Block of North 10th in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

On June 3, police arrested 34-year-old&nbsp;Anthony W. Lunsford of&nbsp; Atchison, on a District Court warrant for violation of a protective order, theft, domestic battery, and intimidation of a witness. 

In May, Lunsford was jailed on requested charges of domestic battery and criminal damage to property in connection with an incident that occurred on April 19.&nbsp;Lunsford has spent time in custody numerous times over the past five years and was convicted of theft, according to online jail records. 

He is being held on a $10,000 bond, according to online jail records.

Kansas man jailed for violence second time in two months

Those thinking about starting their own business have an opportunity
to learn the tricks of the trade and tour some potential sites Tuesday afternoon.

The St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the
Downtown Association and the Center for Entrepreneurship at Missouri Western
State University is hosting a workshop and tour.

Kristi Bailey with the Chamber says the event is free and
registration isn’t required.

“It is an opportunity for people that are interested in
starting their own business to come and learn, really, what all that entails,”
Bailey tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “So, it starts with a workshop where people
learn about opening their own business and then they get to go on a tour of
some open spaces that are available downtown.”

momentum.“If you haven’t been downtown recently it looks very different
than what it did a few years ago,” Bailey says. “So, anything that the Chamber
can do to help keep that going we definitely want to be a part of.”Bailey says she knows personally of people who are considering
starting a business, especially in wake of the economic disruption caused by
the coronavirus pandemic.“COVID and the shutdown, while it of course did a lot of harm
to a lot of people, it did inspire some creativity in others when they were
stuck at home,” according to Bailey.Participants will tour four featured sites:&nbsp; 202 Main St., 625 Francis St., 522 Felix St.,
and 502 Felix St. A reception and discussion will be held afterward at the Angry
Swede Brewing Company.<figure>
