Democrat Trudy Busch Valentine brought her campaign for United States Senate to St. Joseph after completing a swing through northwest Missouri.
Busch Valentine says her campaign is about serving Missouri and the country.
“We have too much division. Our politics are broken. There are families that are not talking to each other anymore,” Busch Valentine tells reporters after speaking with supporters at a stop in downtown St. Joseph Saturday morning. “We need to work together in government, in the United States Senate to get things done.”
Busch Valentine kicked off what her campaign calls the “Nobody’s Senator but Yours” tour in St. Charles Thursday, then quickly headed for northern Missouri. She made stops in Hannibal, Macon, Kirksville, and Brookfield Thursday before turning toward northwest Missouri with stops in Chillicothe, Trenton, Bethany, and Maryville on Friday.
The Democrat wrapped up the tour in Platte County Saturday.

Busch Valentine says she received a really good reception during stops in northwest Missouri, a portion of the state that rarely elects a Democrat.
“I know some people are very hardcore Republican, but look, I’m out here to be the same person I am with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents,” Busch Valentine says.
In fact, Busch Valentine says she has one message for those in deep red, Trump country.
“My message to them is: listen. Let’s try to be honest. Let’s try to hear the truth. Let’s try to get together, stop the divisions, and work together,” Busch Valentine says. “There is way too much division in our state and in our country. We’ve got to stop it or we won’t be the United States of America.”
Busch Valentine is running for the seat left open with the announced retirement of Republican U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt. Busch Valentine won the Democratic primary. Attorney General Eric Schmitt won the Republican primary.
Busch Valentine calls Schmitt extreme.
“Eric Schmitt still believes in the big lie, that we didn’t have a fair and free election (in 2020),” Busch Valentine says. “Eric Schmitt and I are so different. Eric Schmitt believes that a woman or a child should carry a pregnancy to term even in the case of rape or incest.”
Busch Valentine also accuses Schmitt of helping Chinese interest buy up Missouri farmland.
Jonathan Dine of Kansas City appears as a Libertarian on the ballot. Paul Venable of Lincoln represents the Constitution Party on the ballot for Missouri United States Senate.
