ST. JOSEPH –&nbsp;The Missouri Western volleyball team (16-12, 10-9) put itself in position for a winner-take-fifth place match on Saturday against Central Oklahoma with a 3-1 win over Newman (1-28, 1-9, Thursday night.&nbsp;Junior&nbsp;Ali Tauchen&nbsp;joined the 1,000-kill club in the match. Tauchen needed seven coming into the match and she ended with 12, hitting the milestone in the second set.&nbsp;The Griffons jumped out to a 2-0 lead, winning 25-17 in the first and 25-23 in the second. Missouri Western posted a 76% sideout percentage in the first set, scoring on 13 of Newman's 17 serves in the set. Newman won its first set in more than three weeks with a 27-25 win in the third. The Jets led 13-8 in the third before a 12-3 run put the Griffus up 20-15. Newman jumped back on top with seven straight points and led 24-22, before MWSU chipped away to force extra points. Missouri Western controlled the fourth, 25-17, holding Newman to a -.043 hitting percentage and just a 41% sideout percentage in the set.&nbsp;With the victory, the Griffons were tied for fifth in the MIAA standings with Central Oklahoma. The two will close out the regular season, Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Looney Arena. The winner will face Northwest Missouri on Nov. 21 in the first round of the MIAA Championships at Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City, Missouri. MARYVILLE, Missouri - The No. 1-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball set the MIAA&nbsp;record for consecutive victories with its 43rd straight win in a 92-40 triumph over the University of Saint Mary (Kansas) in Bearcat Arena. The previous record of 42 was set by the Bearcats back in the 1929-30 and 1930-31 seasons. The Bearcats went 31-0 in 1929-30 and then won their first 11 games of the 1930-31 season under then head coach Henry "Hank" Iba. Northwest moved to 5-0 on the season as sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bearcatsports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7595" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 102, 72);">Diego Bernard</a>&nbsp;and junior&nbsp;<a href="https://bearcatsports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7598" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 102, 72);">Ryan Hawkins</a>&nbsp;each posted double-doubles. It is the most points the Bearcats have scored since tallying 98 in a win over Lincoln (Feb. 25, 2017) . Northwest's victory margin of 68 fell short of its largest ever margin of victory, 99,, set against Missouri-St. Louis on Nov. 26, 1977 in a 120-21 win. The Bearcats splashed home a barrage of three-pointers going 18-of-38 from behind the arc, one short of the school record of 19 set against Peru State (Nov. 15, 2017). Northwest women roll past Kansas Christian 90-22

MANHATTAN, Kansas -- Xavier Sneed had 15 points and six rebounds and led Kansas State to a 73-54 win over Monmouth Wednesday night. Monmouth held a nine-point halftime lead but was stifled offensively in the second half -- only scoring six points in the first 15 minutes. Ray Salnave had 20 points and five rebounds while Mustapha Traore scored five points and had 10 rebounds in the losing effort. Kansas State's defense forced 25 turnovers scoring 21 points off those mistakes. The Wildcats (3-0) won the game in the paint outscoring the Hawks 38-20 as Makol Mawien nearly had his second double-double of the season scoring 11 points and pulling in nine rebounds. Freshman Montavious Murphy had a career high eight points. Monmouth (1-2) closed the first half on a 14-4 run after a layup at buzzer by Traore to lead 29-20 at the break. The Wildcats have been outscored 74-57 in the first half of games this season. Sneed opened the second half with a 3, starting a 9-0 run for the Wildcats, which tied the game. K-State scored 23 of the first 27 points in the second half and cruised to victory from there. BIG PICTURE Monmouth showed for a half that they can play with a Power Five school but will need to play a full 40 minutes to complete a major upset. K-State rallies from nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Monmouth

COLUMBIA, Mo.&nbsp;– Mizzou Women's Basketball (1-2, 0-0 SEC) dropped a nonconference matchup to Northern Iowa (3-0, 0-0 MVC, 78-73, on Wednesday night at Mizzou Arena. Three Tigers scored in double figures, led by senior guard&nbsp;Amber Smith&nbsp;(Shreveport, La.) with 19 points. Senior&nbsp;Jordan Roundtree&nbsp;(St. Louis, Mo.) scored in double figures for the third straight game with 12 points, while freshman forward&nbsp;Hayley Frank&nbsp;(Strafford, Mo.) scored a season-high 17 points.&nbsp;TURNING POINT&nbsp;Northern Iowa seemed to have an answer every time Mizzou pulled the deficit close. A Frank three-pointer with under seven minutes to play put the Tigers up 66-65 and a Smith layup on the next possession made it 68-67. These were the last leads Mizzou would hold, as Northern Iowa used a 6-0 to regain the lead for good. Despite Mizzou’s best efforts on the press, Northern Iowa controlled the ball and the clock down the stretch on their way to victory.&nbsp;TOP TIGERS• Smith led the way for the Tigers in both points and rebounds with 19 and seven, respectively. Tiger women fall at home to Northern Iowa 78-73

Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball coach Ben McCollum has announced the addition of three student-athletes during the fall 2019 signing period.&nbsp;McCollum has signed small forward Daniel&nbsp;Abreu&nbsp;(Willard, Missouri, shooting guard Byron Alexander (Kansas City, Missouri) and shooting guard Spencer&nbsp;Schomers&nbsp;(Omaha, Nebraska).&nbsp;"We are thrilled that Daniel, Byron &amp; Spencer will be joining our program," McCollum said. "On top of being high quality basketball players, all three come from great families and will be great additions to the Bearcat family." Abreu, a 6'6" small forward, will join the Bearcats after completing his senior season with Jeremy&nbsp;Dresslaer&nbsp;and the Willard Tigers.&nbsp;Abreu&nbsp;led Willard High School to 17-10 record and a berth into the district final as a junior while averaging&nbsp;27.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists&nbsp;on 55% shooting from the field and 45% shooting from three-point range.&nbsp;Abreu&nbsp;was tabbed as the Central Ozark Conference Player of the Year while also being selected to the&nbsp;MBCA&nbsp;Class 5 All-State Team.&nbsp;"Daniel's ability to shoot, drive and post up make him very tough to guard," McCollum said. "On top of his versatility, what stuck out the most to us about Daniel during the recruiting process was his relentless motor on the court and high-energy personality off the court." As a junior, Alexander averaged 17.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.8 steals. Bearcat men's basketball signs three for the 2020-2021 season

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Men's Basketball signed 7-foot-3 Baltimore, Md., native, Jordan Wilmore to its 2020 recruiting class, head coach Cuonzo Martin announced Wednesday. Wilmore, who played at Whitehaven High School in Memphis, Tenn., inked a National Letter of Intent to play his collegiate career at Mizzou. The colossal center helped steer Whitehaven to a 25-8 record and a 2019 District championship under coach Faragi Phillips, who is now an assistant at Vanderbilt. Wilmore’s senior campaign was highlighted by a 28-point outburst on 12-of-14 shooting vs. Oakhaven. "Jordan has great length and a good feel for the game,” Martin said. “He is disruptive defensively protecting the rim and excellent on the glass, and will be a solid back-to-the-basket big for us. Jordan is a high-character guy, whose passion to be great at this level fits our program well.” After graduating high school with Shelby County Schools Honors and an Above Exemplary Diploma, Wilmore opted to spend a year developing his game at Atlanta’s Skills Factory Prep School. “I chose Mizzou because of how real and genuine Coach Martin and his staff are,” Wilmore said. “They did not try to sugarcoat anything, and they were honest with me about my development and where I need to be to become a great basketball player. They’ve welcomed me home, and I feel like I’ve arrived home at Mizzou.” Wilmore averaged more than eight points and three blocks and grabbed nearly 10 rebounds per game at Whitehaven. En route to the District 16 AAA championship, his squad defeated Memphis East and the nation’s top 2019 prospect, James Wiseman, in the title game.&nbsp; Wilmore is the son of Brenda Wilmore, and he has two brothers, Troy Wilmore and Kendale Thomas. Northwest Missouri State University head women's basketball coach Austin Meyer has announced the addition of three student-athletes during the fall 2019 signing period.&nbsp;Meyer has added Jillian Fleming (Liberty, Missouri, Molly&nbsp;Hartnett&nbsp;(Overland Park, Kansas) and&nbsp;Caely&nbsp;Kesten&nbsp;(Lawrence, Kansas) to compete for the Bearcats beginning in the 2020-21 season.&nbsp;"We could not be more excited about this group of future Bearcats," Meyer said. "All three are talented individuals that have all won at a high level and have competed against some of the best players in the country. They are all terrific human beings with great personalities and we look forward to watching them grow in our program."&nbsp;Fleming is a 5'11" forward from Liberty, Missouri. Fleming is a four-year varsity&nbsp;letterwinner&nbsp;at Liberty High School for head coach and former Bearcat men's basketball player Joe Price. Fleming averaged 10 points and 7.3 rebounds as a junior. Fleming earned first-team all-district and second-team all-conference honors in 2018-19. Northwest Missouri State women's basketball signs three for next season

COLUMBIA, Mo.&nbsp;– Mizzou Women's Basketball head coach Robin Pingeton announced the signing of two elite prospects Wednesday, as Jayla Kelly and Sara-Rose Smith each signed national letters of intent and will continue their athletic and academic careers at the University of Missouri. Kelly is rated as a four-star recruit by ESPNW, while Smith boasts Australian national team experience. "We couldn’t be more excited to have Jayla and Sara-Rose joining our family,” said Pingeton. “They are not only talented players, but are high character individuals who we know will be a great addition to our program. Northwest Missouri State University head women's soccer coach Marc Gordon has announced the addition of eight recruits for the 2020 Bearcat squad.&nbsp;Sophia&nbsp;Cissell&nbsp;is a 5'9" midfielder/forward from Liberty, Missouri.&nbsp;Cissell&nbsp;earned first-team all-state honors as a sophomore and as a junior at St.&nbsp;Piux&nbsp;X High School for head coach Todd Ashby.&nbsp;Cissell&nbsp;was named the region's Offensive Player of the Year as a junior. Entering her senior year,&nbsp;Cissell&nbsp;has scored more than 100 goals. She played in the state tournament's final four as a freshman and as a sophomore.&nbsp;Cissell&nbsp;has earned first-team all-conference, all-district and all-region honors. Cissell played club soccer for Kansas City Scott Gallagher (KCSG) for coach Jeff Davis.&nbsp;Ashton Dain is a 5'8" defender from Olathe, Kansas. She competed at Olathe Northwest High School. She tallied first-team all-conference honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior. She earned honorable mention all-state status as a sophomore and junior. Mueller served as team captain in 2018 and 2019. She posted two goals and seven assists in the 2019 season for head coach Digger Hawkins. Mueller played club soccer for Midwest Prime Academy.&nbsp;Hannah Stirling is a 5'8" mid-fielder from Olathe, Kansas. She was the leading goal scorer at Olathe North High School in 2019 for head coach Craig&nbsp;Gerfen. Stirling earned second-team all-conference accolades in 2019. She posted honorable mention all-conference honors in both 2017 and 2018. She captured the&nbsp;KASHAA&nbsp;Citizenship Award in 2016. Taylor earned second-team all-state honors as a senior at Kearney High School for head coach Amanda Hopkins. Northwest soccer adds eight during fall recruiting period

JOSEPH - The Missouri Western State University Board of Governors unanimously approved the addition of women's lacrosse as the 17th NCAA Division II varsity sport at the University during a telephone poll Tuesday morning. The team will become active in the 2020-21 academic year and begin competition in the spring of 2021. Missouri Western will become the fourth NCAA Division II member in the state of Missouri to add the sport and the first from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Missouri Western will be the only public DII member in the state of Missouri sponsoring women's lacrosse. "What an incredible opportunity to be the first MIAA institution to sponsor women's lacrosse and be at the forefront of leading the rapid growth of the sport in this region," MWSU vice president of intercollegiate athletics Dr. Josh Looney said. "Between the recently-renovated Spratt Stadium and the Griffon Indoor Sports Complex, our state-of-the-art infrastructure will allow lacrosse student-athletes to experience championship success on and off the field at Missouri Western. We are excited to grow our student-athlete population beyond 400 students with this high-achieving group of athletes and lead an important University initiative that will continue to move MWSU forward." Looney added a national search for the program's head coach will begin immediately with anticipation of having the coach in place before the end of the winter. Missouri Western to add women's lacrosse beginning in 2020-2021

CINCINNATI -- Naji Marshall hit a 3-pointer that tied it in regulation and made a pair of free throws in overtime Tuesday night as No. 21 Xavier overcame poor outside shooting and rallied to a 63-58 victory over Missouri. The Musketeers (3-0) let a 15-point lead slip away because they couldn't hit an outside shot, going only 3 of 21 from beyond the arc. Marshall's 3-pointer -- Xavier's only one in the second half -- tied it 51-all with 27.1 seconds left. Marshall finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Missouri (2-1) missed a 3 at the end of regulation and never led in overtime, losing to a ranked team for the seventh time in a row. Dru Smith led the Tigers with 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Paul Scruggs hit a pair of baskets in overtime as Xavier built a seven-point lead and held on. Quentin Goodin made three free throws in the final 20 seconds to close it out. Missouri had a setback in the opening minutes. Top scorer Jeremiah Tilmon picked up two fouls in the first 2:56 and spent the rest of the half on the bench. He finished with six points. Xavier led by as many as 15 in a ragged first half. Missouri went eight minutes between field goals and had 13 turnovers, but Xavier couldn't take full advantage because of its woeful outside shooting. Goodin's steal and dunk capped an 11-2 spurt that gave Xavier its biggest lead, 27-12. Tilmon had a layup and Smith scored twice off drives to the basket during a 14-point run that gave Missouri a 38-34 lead, its first since the opening minutes. Xavier went more than seven minutes without scoring while the Tigers rallied. BIG PICTURE Missouri: The Tigers haven't beaten a Top 20 team since a victory over No. 18 UCLA on Dec. 7, 2013. Northwest Missouri State University junior Ryan Hawkins has been named the&nbsp;MIAA's&nbsp;men's basketball athlete of the week. Hawkins (Atlantic, Iowa) was named the MVP of the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic and he set the Northwest single-game scoring record with 44 points. In four games, Hawkins averaged 27.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.3 steals, while shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 53.6 from three-point range. Hawkins poured in a Northwest single-game record 44 points against No. 9-ranked Southern Nazarene. Hawkins was 15-of-22 from the field, including 8-of-11 from three-point range in leading the Bearcats to a 100-88 victory over the Crimson Storm. Hawkins was also Northwest's top scorer vs. No. 22&nbsp;Daemen&nbsp;with 24 points and vs. MSU Moorhead with 27 points. He posted his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds in a 60-52 triumph over&nbsp;Minnesota-Crookston. Hawkins made 36-of-64 field goals and was 15-of-28 from three-point range in the four wins. Hawkins was nearly automatic at the free throw line as he sank 24-of-26 (92.3 percent) of his foul shots over the four-game stretch. MEC announces All-Conference volleyball selections

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals and free-agent pitcher Adam Wainwright have agreed to a contract for next season, raising the likelihood that the veteran finishes his career with the only major league team he has played for. Terms of the deal Tuesday were not disclosed. Wainwright, 38, was drafted by the Braves in 2000 and traded to the Cardinals three years later. He made his major league debut in 2005 and has been a stalwart for St. Louis over the past 14 seasons, going 162-95 with a 3.39 ERA, 1,776 strikeouts and three All-Star Game appearances. He played last season on a $2 million deal and proved he was still effective, going 14-10 with a 4.19 ERA and 153 strikeouts. He helped the Cardinals reach the National League Championship Series, posting a 1.62 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 16⅔ innings over three postseason appearances. Northwest moves up to No. 6 in Regional rankings; Griffons drop to 10th

The Northwest Missouri State University football team swept all three of this week's&nbsp;MIAA&nbsp;football player of the week awards presented by&nbsp;Mammouth&nbsp;Turf. Senior Spencer Phillips (Tabor, Iowa) earned the defensive player honor, while junior Parker Sampson (Kansas City, Missouri) captured the special teams player award and sophomore Braden Wright (Elkhorn, Nebraska) notched the offensive player nod. Phillips secured four tackles, 2.5&nbsp;TFLs, a quarterback sack and a safety in helping Northwest to a 36-33 double-overtime victory on the road against Fort Hays State. Phillips and Brody Buck combined on a safety with 4:15 left in the second quarter when they stuffed&nbsp;FHSU&nbsp;running back&nbsp;TeCorey&nbsp;Tutson&nbsp;in the end zone to give Northwest a 19-17 lead. It was Northwest's first lead of the game after trailing 17-0 early in the second quarter. Sampson handled all the special teams kicking duties and booted a 38-yard game-winning walk-off field goal to defeat Fort Hays State, 36-33. Sampson was 2-for-2 on field goals - 41 yards, 38 yards. His&nbsp;41-yarder&nbsp;in the second quarter evened up the matchup after Fort Hays State had jumped out to a 17-0 lead. The 38-yard field goal came after Northwest has forced a&nbsp;FHSU&nbsp;fumble in the second overtime. After three running plays set up the ball near the left hash mark, Sampson split the uprights from 38 yards away for the 36-33 victory. Sampson punted seven times for a 39.7 average. Three of his punts were downed inside the 20. Sampson had a 64-yard punt that was downed at the 1-yard line and on the next play by the&nbsp;FHSU&nbsp;offense, Northwests Spencer Phillips and Brody Buck recorded a safety by tackling running back&nbsp;TeCorery&nbsp;Tutson&nbsp;in the end zone giving Northwest its first lead of the game at 19-17 with 4:15 left i the second quarter. Sampson had five kickoffs in the game and all five resulted in touchbacks. Wright engineered a 17-point comeback and then led Northwest to a 36-33 double-overtime victory at Fort Hays State. Wright was responsible for all four Bearcat touchdowns in the road triumph. Wright rushed for a game-high 96 yards on 10 carries and scored a touchdown, while going 23-of-43 passing for 279 yards and three touchdown tosses. Wrights 1-yard run in the second quarter got Northwest on the board trailing 17-7 with 12:31 left in the second quarter. He then connected with&nbsp;Imoni&nbsp;Donadelle&nbsp;on a 42-yard touchdown pass to pull Northwest to within three points with 10:32 left in the second. Wrights nine-yard touchdown shovel pass to Justin Rankin gave Northwest a 26-20 lead with 8:24 remaining in the third quarter. In the first session of overtime, Wright again hooked with&nbsp;Donadelle&nbsp;on a 5-yard scoring strike to give the Bearcats a 33-26 advantage. In the second overtime, Wright guided Northwest for three plays and then cleared the way for a 38-yard game-winning field goal from Sampson. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah will undergo season-ending surgery this week for a torn pectoral muscle he suffered Sunday during the Chiefs' 35-32 loss at Tennessee a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Ogbah has started four game for the Chiefs this season and is the team's leader in sacks with 5.5. The Chiefs acquired Ogbah in an offseason trade with the Cleveland Browns. He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

It is the Association's third football game and fourth event from a fall sport to be featured as an NCAA Division II Showcase game in 2019.&nbsp; A hybrid model used for local television and online distribution allowed for the&nbsp;MIAA&nbsp;game to be selected as a showcase game this season. Northwest, UCM selected as DII Football Showcase game for Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Forcing Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to settle for a bunch of field goals gave the Tennessee Titans a chance to stay close. Ryan Tannehill and a cornerback only activated off injured reserve a week ago helped make the Chiefs pay for their fifth and sixth attempts. Tannehill threw a 23-yard touchdown to Adam Humphries with 23 seconds left, and Joshua Kalu blocked a last-second field goal attempt to beat the Chiefs 35-32 to spoil the return of NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes. "It's fun to win a game like that, battle back in the fourth-quarter at home and find a way to win is a ton of fun," Tannehill said. The Titans (5-5) only had a chance after a bad snap by the Chiefs on Harrison Butker's fifth field goal attempt of the day. Kansas City coach Andy Reid blamed communication for the snap taking holder Dustin Colquitt by surprise, and he threw the ball away in desperation for an intentional grounding call, setting the Titans up at their own 39. Tannehill scrambled for 18, hit Anthony Firsker for 20 yards and then found Humphries who ran in for the TD. Tannehill also ran for the 2-point conversion for a 35-32 lead. The Chiefs (6-4) had a final chance with Mahomes. He drove them down, setting up Butker for another field goal try from 52 yards. Kalu blocked the kick with his left hand, and the Titans ran onto the field to celebrate. Kalu wound up at the bottom of a pile, and he said he kept getting closer each time watching the Chiefs' cadence, hands and eyes. The block was a blur but not his decision to jump at the snap. "As soon as I hit it, it was automatic joy," said Kalu, recently activated from injured reserve. Kansas City coach Andy Reid, now 1-8 all-time against Tennessee, said he wanted to see a replay of the blocked field goal thinking Kalu was offside. But Reid took the blame for the loss. "We were in position to close it, and we didn't get that done," Reid said. "My responsibility. Then we were too sloppy." Derrick Henry ran for 188 yards, including a 68-yard TD that put Tennessee up 20-19 with 5:58 left in the third. His 1-yard TD with 6:26 remaining pulled the Titans within 29-27. Tannehill finished with 181 yards passing and ran for 37 yards for the win. The loss spoiled the best passing game this season for Mahomes as the Chiefs outgained the Titans 530-371. Mahomes threw for 446 yards and three touchdowns. His best play came with the pocket collapsing around him when he jumped up to throw over the linemen to Mecole Hardman who ran for a 63-yard TD with 11:54 left and a 29-20 lead. "The knee feels fine, and I'm glad to get through another game," Mahomes said of his knee and ankle that had been hurting last month. Mahomes looked very healthy playing for the first time since dislocating his right kneecap Oct. 17. He got lucky when his first pass first ruled an interception was overturned by replay for Titans safety Kenny Vaccaro trapping the ball on the ground. Mahomes capped the Chiefs' first drive with a 3-yard shovel pass to Travis Kelce. The Chiefs sacked Tannehill four times and also forced a fumble but could only turn that into one of Butker's four made field goals. Tannehill got the Titans going with a 52-yard throw to Kalif Raymond, then he hit Anthony Firkser for a 9-yard TD. Then rookie linebacker David Long forced a fumble by Damien Williams, and linebacker Rashaan Evans picked up the ball, juked away from Mahomes and ran 53 yards for a TD and a 13-10 lead with 6:14 left in the second quarter. INJURIES The Chiefs came in with left tackle Eric Fisher still healing up from a groin injury that has kept him out all but the first two games of the season, and right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif missing a second game with an ankle. Late in the first half, Kansas City lost an offensive lineman on consecutive plays. First, right tackle Mitchell Schwartz hurt a knee and went to the sideline, snapping the NFL's longest active snap streak at 7,894 snaps. Then Martinas Rankin, who started at right guard, moved over a spot and hurt his right knee on the next play. He was carted to the locker room and did not return. Schwartz returned. He said no need to call him out on having a team-high nine penalties in six games after being suspended for the first four. "It's not intentional," Lewan said. "I do not mean to do it. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Keandre Cook had a career-high 31 points as Missouri State topped Alabama State 59-50 on Sunday. Cook sank 9 of 13 shots, including 6 for 7 on 3-pointers, and all seven of his free throws for Missouri State (1-1). The rest of the Bears made just 13 of 39 shots (33%) from the floor, including 1 for 12 from 3-point range. Tulio Da Silva had 14 rebounds to help Missouri State win the rebound battle 40-27. Cook scores 31 as Missouri State defeats Alabama State

JOSEPH -&nbsp;Nebraska Kearney (6-4) jumped on the Missouri Western football team (7-3) early and cruised to a 49-21 win Saturday in the final home game of the 2019 season for the Griffons at Spratt Stadium. UNK recovered a&nbsp;Trey Vaval&nbsp;fumble on the opening kickoff of the game and took a 6-0 lead six plays later. Vaval gave MWSU its only lead of the game on the ensuing kickoff, taking it 85 yards for a touchdown. The 7-6 lead held for nine minutes before the second of six UNK rushing touchdowns with 3:07 left in the first quarter. The Lopers never trailed again. The Griffons twice got within two scores. After a 23-yard touchdown pass from&nbsp;Wyatt Steigerwald&nbsp;to&nbsp;Kyle Berry&nbsp;with 6:28 left in the third, the Griffon defense forced a Loper punt. Vaval returned the punt 43 yards to the UNK-43 and a facemask penalty set the Griffs up at the Loper 28-yard line. Missouri Western opened the fourth quarter trying to convert a 4th-and-7 at the UNK, but Steigerwald was sacked. On the first play of UNK's ensuing drive, Darrius Webb went 71 yards for a touchdown run to put UNK up 42-21.
