MEXICO CITY -- Daniel Sorensen picked off Philip Rivers’ fourth interception at the goal line with 18 seconds to play, and the Kansas City Chiefs stayed on top of the AFC West with a 24-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night at Azteca Stadium. Patrick Mahomes passed for 182 yards and hit Travis Kelce for his only touchdown, while LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams rushed for touchdowns as the Chiefs (7-4) hung on to win the fourth regular-season NFL game played in Mexico despite a few problems with Azteca’s grass field and a one-sided first half favoring the Chargers (4-7, who racked up 312 yards without a touchdown. After throwing his second interception of the season in the first half, Mahomes led two sharp scoring drives in the third quarter with help from Kelce, who caught seven passes for 92 yards. The Chiefs held Los Angeles to eight points in the second half, and Sorensen grabbed Rivers’ underthrown pass to Austin Ekeler at the goal line to secure the Chiefs’ 10th win over Los Angeles in 11 meetings. Rivers passed for 353 yards during his first four-interception game since November 2016 for the Chargers, whose playoff hopes are nearly dead after five losses in seven games. Keenan Allen caught his first TD pass since Week 3 in the third quarter, but the Chargers had three inept drives in the scoreless fourth quarter. On the Bolts’ last gasp, Mike Williams made a spectacular 50-yard catch with 44 seconds to play. Los Angeles reached the Kansas City 14 before Rivers’ final mistake. Rivers, who turns 38 next month, has thrown seven interceptions in the Chargers’ last two games. One year after the NFL called off a game at Azteca Stadium on short notice because of poor field conditions, these teams played an entertaining game in the 7,200-foot elevation and on the Azteca grass, which yielded several significant divots from sharp stops or changes of direction. The Rams and Chiefs were scheduled to play here last season, but severe damage to the turf field compelled the NFL to relocate the game to Los Angeles on six days’ notice. Azteca removed its hybrid turf and installed natural grass this year, and the field had been untouched since Club América’s last home soccer game Nov. 2. The grounds crew came onto the field at halftime and during timeouts in the second half to attend to the worst spots. The NFL and the stadium still threw an impressive party for 76,252 of Mexico’s football-loving fans, who packed the arena and mostly supported the Chargers, the nominal home team. Although the teams spent less than 48 hours in Mexico’s capital city, the NFL has deep roots among fans around the country. Commissioner Roger Goodell met Monday with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador while the league and the federal government are considering extending the Mexico game series beyond its current deal through 2021. The game was particularly special to Chargers cornerback Michael Davis, the son of a U.S. immigrant from Mexico City. Davis got to play in front of his grandparents for the first time. But the Chargers trailed 10-9 at halftime despite outgaining Kansas City 312-109 and making five drives into Chiefs territory. Rivers threw two interceptions and Michael Badgley missed a 40-yard field goal attempt while making three others, wasting a defensive effort that included Rayshawn Jenkins picking off Mahomes. Tyreek Hill left the field with a right hamstring injury after the Chiefs’ second offensive series, although it didn’t appear to be caused by the turf. The speedster watched the second half from the sideline. Tyrann Mathieu’s 35-yard interception return set up McCoy’s 6-yard TD run for the game’s first touchdown in the second quarter. Chiefs hold off Chargers 24-17 in Mexico City

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missouri held Wofford without a field goal for the final 14 1/2 minutes, as the Tigers pulled away for a 75-56 victory on Monday. Mark Smith led Missouri (3-1) with 19 points, Jeremiah Tilmon added 16 and Xavier Pinson finished with 10 points. Nathan Hoover led the Terriers (2-3) with 21 points. Tilmon, a junior forward, asserted himself early -- he made the first 3-pointer of his career -- on his way to seven first-half points. The lead changed hands six times in a back-and-forth first half before Dru Smith dished a nice pass to Parker Braun for a layup and then muscled in for a leaning jumper to help the Tigers take a 36-31 halftime lead. Pinson helped the Tigers break the game open midway through the second half. The game was tied at 45 when he created space with a crossover dribble and hit a jumper. He fed Mark Smith for a 3-pointer. Then Pinson made a steal and swooped in for a dunk. He added two free throws on the next possession to give the Tigers a 54-45 lead with 11:05 left. After shooting 50% from the field in the first half, Wofford made only 19% after the break. Northwest Missouri State University sophomore defensive back Trey Washington has been named the&nbsp;MIAA's&nbsp;football defensive player of the week presented by Mammoth Turf. Washington (Grimes, Iowa) intercepted two passes and scored a touchdown on a fumble return in Northwest's 45-23 win over previously undefeated Central Missouri. Washington picked off&nbsp;UCM's&nbsp;Blake&nbsp;Bolles&nbsp;on the first play of the game setting the tone for a defense that forced six turnovers on the day. Washington notched his second interception of the game with 11:38 left in the second quarter as he thwarted a UCM drive with Northwest leading 21-3. Washington capped another scoring play with a fumble return that started with a sack of&nbsp;Bolles&nbsp;which resulted in a fumble. Bearcats' Washington earns weekly MIAA football honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Tiana Butler helped the Missouri Western volleyball team to a 2-0 week that vaulted the Griffons to the No. 5 seed for the MIAA Championships and she was named MIAA Specialist of the Week for her efforts. The senior Libero picked up the honor after averaging 7.57 digs per set last week. Butler helped the Griffons defeat Newman in four sets then sweep Central Oklahoma in a winner-take-fifth match to close out the regular season. She didn't commit a reception error and totaled 53 total digs over the seven sets. Against Newman, she had 31 digs and Saturday against Central Oklahoma, she had 22. Butler and the Griffons earned another shot at rival and No. 4-seeded Northwest Missouri on Nov. 21 in the first round of the MIAA Championships. ST. JOSEPH –&nbsp;It was almost nine months to the day that&nbsp;Tyrell Carroll&nbsp;said he'd make the next one and he delivered on that promise. The sophomore point guard made a floater in the lane with 1.8 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Griffons a 66-64 win over Missouri S&amp;T in OT. MWSU improves to 2-3 this season and the Miners fall to 0-2. Carroll's game-winner came five minutes after he knocked down a 3-pointer to put MWSU up 58-55 in overtime. Unfortunately, S&amp;T's Mitch Fairless had an answer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. Carroll promised he'd make his next chance at a game winning shot after missing a game-tying 3-pointer on Feb. 23 of last season at Central Missouri. He wasn't going to let it happen again, scoring a career-high 29 points Sunday night against S&amp;T on 11 of 19 shooting with four assists.&nbsp;The teams combined for just two field goals in the overtime period, but MWSU knocked down all six of its free throw attempts in extra time. In the game, MWSU was 20 for 23 at the line with S&amp;T going 4 of 6 from the charity stripe. Carroll carries Griffons past Missouri S&T in overtime 66-64

ST. JOSEPH – The Missouri Western football team just missed out on making the NCAA Division II playoffs, but the Griffons will play in the postseason for a second consecutive season.&nbsp;MWSU accepted an invitation to the Agent Barry Live United Bowl in Texarkana, Arkansas for a second straight year. Missouri Western, who tied for third in the MIAA and finished the regular season 8-3, will play Henderson on December 7th at Razorback Stadium.&nbsp;The Reddies had a 9-2 regular season and finished third in the Great American Conference.&nbsp;The only other meeting between the two teams came in the 2012 NCAA playoffs as MWSU won at Henderson State 45-21. The Griffons won the Live United Bowl in 2018 as they defeated Southern Arkansas 30-25.&nbsp;This will be the 11th bowl game in Missouri Western history and the 15th postseason appearance. A press conference with the official announcement will take place in Texarkana on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. as more details will be released then.

Missouri Western accepts bid to the Live United Bowl against Henderson State

The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat football team secured the program's 24th NCAA Division II playoff bid with a berth into the 2019 field. It is the 16th straight season that Northwest will compete in the playoffs for a shot at the Division II national championship. Northwest (10-1 overall) is the No.3 seed in Super Region 3 and will play host to Harding University (10-1 overall) at noon Saturday at Bearcat Stadium in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Div. II playoffs. Ferris State is the No. 1 seed in the region and gets a first round bye. In the other first round games, No. 2 seed Ouachita Baptist will play host to Lindenwood and No. 4 seed Central Missouri will be at home against Indianapolis. Northwest and Harding have met on two previous occasions and both occurred in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Northwest scored a 35-0 win over Harding on Nov. 17, 2012, in a first round matchup. MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats women's basketball team lost to the Maryville University Saints 68-57, to fall to 2-2 on the year. The Bearcats fell behind quickly losing the first quarter 19-12. Northwest played well defensively, forcing Maryville to commit 15 turnovers, and getting seven steals. The Bearcats struggled to find the basket shooting only 18-of-62 (29%) from the field. Jaelyn Haggard led the Bearcats with 16 points, followed by Kendey Eaton with 12 and Kylie Coleman with 11. Eaton led the Bearcats in rebounds with six. Mia Stillman and Erika Schlosser led the Bearcats with three steals each.&nbsp;&nbsp; Maryville had two scorers over 20 points, Abby Monis had 24 points and Mary Barton had 21. Monis added 10 rebounds to give herself a double-double on the game. Barton led -the Saints with nine assists and added six rebounds as well. Northwest Missouri State women lose at home to Maryville 68-57

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. –&nbsp;Without three starters, the Missouri Western football team (8-3) closed the 2019 regular season with a 71-8 trouncing of Lincoln (1-10) on Saturday. MWSU picked up its eighth win for the first time in six years and matched a program record with its 10th&nbsp;straight win away from home.&nbsp;The win was one of the most efficiently lopsided on the stat sheet in recent memory.&nbsp;Cooper Burton&nbsp;took the opening kickoff back 77 yards for a touchdown and Missouri Western led by 54 points before Lincoln got on the board early in the fourth quarter.&nbsp;With starting quarterback&nbsp;Wyatt Steigerwald&nbsp;out,&nbsp;Anthony Vespo&nbsp;stepped in for his first career start. Vespo completed 18 of his 21 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Griffons dominate Lincoln 71-8 for first eight-win season since 2013

MARYVILLE, Missouri - The Northwest Missouri State University football team captured a share of its&nbsp;30th&nbsp;MIAA&nbsp;regular season title by taking down previously undefeated University of Central Missouri, 45-23. Northwest (10-1 overall) tallied eight quarterback sacks, forced six turnovers and blocked a kick in front of 7,323 fans at Bearcat Stadium.&nbsp;With a fire in their eyes, Northwest hit the ground running and set their sights on getting up early. On the first play of the game, the defense threw fuel onto that fire as Trey Washington snagged an interception on an&nbsp;underthrown&nbsp;ball by the Mules quarterback Brook&nbsp;Bolles.&nbsp;This interception was only the beginning as the Bearcat defense emerged as the main cog that led to the victory over Central Missouri. Northwest's defense accounted for six turnovers four interceptions and two forced fumbles, eight sacks, 13 tackles-for-loss, a blocked kick and two touchdowns.&nbsp;A trio of Bearcats stood out on a defense that shined throughout the day at Bearcat Stadium. Washington snared a pair of interceptions and returned a fumble for a touchdown. Spencer Phillips had a huge day on the defensive line with 10 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. Linebacker Jackson Barnes also grabbed two interceptions and returned his final pick 29 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.&nbsp;It isn't fair to mention the defense's success without mentioning the offense’s scoring endeavors. While the defense held the Mules to just 17 points at half, the Bearcats were able to post 21 on Central Missouri by the time the second quarter ended. Running back Justin Rankin started the scoring at 13:25 in the first, as he took the ball in from the seven-yard line. Rankin was met near the goal line but the Bearcat offensive line was able to force Rankin into the end zone. The rush attacked seemed to be the go-to in the beginning stages of the game as the Bearcats’s second drive consisted of 64 yards on the ground. Braden Wright finished the drive with a burst through a hole on the right side with 10:07 left to make it 14-0. The Mules got their first points on the board as they grabbed a field goal with :40 left in the first. But the Bearcats retaliated as Rankin once again found the end zone. This time he pushed through from the one-yard line at 14:37 in the second quarter to make it 21-3. Central Missouri scored its first touchdown of the day on a two-yard run by&nbsp;Koby&nbsp;Wilkerson with 3:32 left in the second quarter. The Bearcat defense put the next points on the board when Spencer Phillips sacked&nbsp;Bolles&nbsp;and forced a fumble. Brody Buck scooped up the loose ball and returned it to the 26-yard line where he handed it off to Washington, who covered the final 26 yards for the fumble return for a touchdown. No. 12 Bearcats roll past No. 9 Central Missouri 45-23 to share MIAA title

ST. JOSEPH -&nbsp;The Missouri Western volleyball team entered the final regular season match of 2019 looking for a signature victory and a higher seed in next week's MIAA Championships. They got it in dominating fashion, taking down Central Oklahoma in straight sets to secure fifth place in the conference standings and the fifth seed in MIAA postseason tournament. Missouri Western jumped out to a 2-0 lead with little drama, taking the first 25-16 and the second 25-19. The fireworks came in a third set that saw the set tied 14 times with six different lead changes. Missouri Western volleyball defeats Central Oklahoma in regular season finale

MARYVILLE, Missouri – The No. 19-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's volleyball posted its&nbsp;20th&nbsp;win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of the Emporia State Hornets at Bearcat Arena on Saturday night.&nbsp;With the triumph, Northwest collected back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1999. Northwest volleyball sweeps Emporia State for 20th win

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Nothing about Kyle Trask's path to becoming Florida's starting quarterback was easy. Something as trivial as a sluggish first half doesn't rattle him. Trask threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter to help No. 11 Florida shake free of Missouri 23-6 on Saturday. The former high school backup, who took over for the Gators after an injury to Feleipe Franks earlier this season, completed 23 of 35 passes for 282 yards. That was plenty of offense for Florida (9-2, 6-2 Southeastern Conference, which held Missouri to 204 total yards. "My whole journey to get to where I am, I've definitely learned a lot of lessons that have sharpened my character. Patience is one thing I've learned along the way," Trask said. Linebacker Jon Greenard spent most of the day in the Tigers' backfield, finishing with two sacks and five tackles for loss. The Tigers (5-5, 2-4) have lost four straight games and haven't scored a touchdown in the last two. "Didn't do enough pass game or run game, Missouri coach Barry Odom said. "Converting on third downs, we came up short. Lot of questions. We've got answers, but we've got to go execute." Florida led 6-3 after a first half in which the teams combined for 10 punts. The Gators struggled up front offensively in the first half, allowing four sacks to a team that had only 14 sacks on the season entering the game. They gained just 29 yards on the ground before intermission and finished with 56 rushing yards. It was a similar story for Missouri, which welcomed Kelly Bryant back at quarterback after he missed last week's game at Georgia with a hamstring injury. Bryant repeatedly slipped out of the arms of blitzers to extend plays, but the Tigers struggled to put drives together without any help from its running game. Bryant completed 25 of 38 passes for 204 yards and one interception. Missouri's only scores came on two Tucker McCann field goals. The Gators finally got going in the third quarter when Trask connected with Josh Hammond for a 34-yard touchdown pass and hit Lamical Perine for a 15-yard TD. Van Jefferson finished with six catches for 82 yards, and Trevon Grimes had three catches for 66 yards. "We've had a couple games like this where it was a little bit of a slow start this season," Trask said. "It taught our guys to stick with it. That's why we're never panicking, even in a situation like this where it's so low-scoring at halftime and it seems like there's not a lot positive going on." BIG PICTURE Florida: The Gators stayed in the hunt for a 10-win season, a New Year's Six bowl berth for the second year in a row and an SEC East title if Georgia losses two more conference games. Second-year coach Dan Mullen is 19-5 at the school, putting Florida's program on its firmest footing since the end of the Urban Meyer era in 2010. Missouri: The Tigers had been two different teams this season based on the location of the game. Entering Saturday's game, they averaged 40.4 points in five home victories and 13 points in four road losses. Bryant returns but Mizzou falls to No. 11 Florida 23-6

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- West Virginia coach Neal Brown was staring down the prospects of a six-game losing streak amid his first season in Morgantown, a streak of futility unmatched by the Mountaineers since 1986. Instead, he walked out of Kansas State with a foundational win for his vast rebuilding effort. Jarret Doege threw for 234 yards and three scores in place of Austin Kendall, and Hakeem Bailey made the play of the game when he picked off the Wildcats' Skylar Thompson in the closing seconds, allowing the Mountaineers to escape with a 24-20 victory Saturday night. "This is a huge win. It felt like a long time coming," Brown said. "Kind of been knocking on the door. I really felt like we'd be in a position at some point to win a game that maybe we shouldn't have. This is big for our program, big for our players and I'm proud of our guys." The Mountaineers (4-6, 2-5 Big 12) hadn't scored more than 17 points in their last four games, prompting the change at quarterback. Doege, who hadn't started since last November when he was still at Bowling Green, responded by throwing all three of his TD passes on crucial third downs. The biggest? A 50-yard heave on third-and-22 that gave the Mountaineers the lead late. "I was just thinking, `Get through my progression," Doege said, "but I forced out and I saw him wide open and luckily got it off right before I got hit. I didn't know if he caught it until I looked up and saw him in the end zone." The Wildcats (6-4, 3-4) had plenty of chances to answer, but they turned the ball over on downs and then punted before their final drive. Thompson led them briskly downfield, but his second-down throw floated in the wind whipping out of the south and Bailey outjumped the intended target. West Virginia then ran out the clock on the win and its five-game losing streak. "We challenged them hard this week," Brown said, "and the guys that have been in our program for a long time. ... We only get 12 of the these so you have to come to play." The Wildcats, who almost never altered their look under Hall of Fame coach Bill Snyder, donned a throwback uniform to the 1988 with white helmets and script "Cats" across them. Perhaps they should have chosen a season in which they didn't go 0-11. Thompson was 24 of 39 for 299 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, and Kansas State had trouble moving the ball all night against a team that allowed 38 points to Texas Tech last week. The Wildcats ran 32 times but averaged just 3.2 yards per attempt. "When we struggle to run the ball it affects the rest of the offense," said the Wildcats' James Gilbert, who led the way with 60 yards rushing and a touchdown. The Mountaineers' season-long growing pains appeared to continue right from the start, when they went three-and-out on offense and gave up a 68-yard TD pass on their first play on defense. It was hardly a harbinger of the first half. West Virginia answered with a 75-yard drive, finished off by Doege's touchdown pass to George Campbell. And when the Wildcats answered with a field goal, the Mountaineers reached the end zone again -- though not without a bit of help from the officials. West Virginia was held to a field goal that Casey Legg missed. But the crew ruled the Wildcats' Trey Dishon jumped the gun on the rush, giving the Mountaineers a fresh set of downs. They went nowhere on the first two plays before Campbell hauled in another touchdown pass. Legg missed another field goal heading into the locker room, and the momentum appeared to have swung the Wildcats' direction in the second half. They opened it with a long, time-consuming touchdown drive to take a 20-14 lead midway through the third quarter. They were never able to shake loose, though. Kansas State was forced to punt on each of its next two possessions. Legg drilled a 51-yard field goal after missing a chip-shot late in the first half, and a few minutes later Doege took advantage of a major coverage lapse on third-and-22 to throw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Wheaton. That turned out to be all the points the Mountaineers needed. "Obviously a disappointing loss -- a game West Virginia deserved," Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. "They outplayed us and, that being said, we had an opportunity late in the game to almost steal a victory. Disappointed in a number of things but obviously you have to move on." THE TAKEAWAY West Virginia was desperate for some kind of spark, so Doege got the call. He was plenty shaky in his first start since last November, but he also made a couple of crucial plays when they mattered. K-State gets upset by West Virginia 24-20

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy broke away from his usual approach to postseason awards and lobbied for Chuba Hubbard to be a Heisman Trophy finalist. Hubbard, the nation's leading rusher, ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns, and No. 25 Oklahoma State rolled past Kansas 31-13 on Saturday. He has rushed for 1,726 yards this season in 10 games. Gundy believes if Hubbard leads Power Five backs in rushing, he should get an invitation to New York for the Heisman ceremony. "He deserves to be there," Gundy said. "And I can honestly say that for him because he's a very humble, hardworking young man. And you know me -- I don't step out there much." Hubbard's yardage total is the fifth-best in school history for a season, trailing 1988 Heisman winner Barry Sanders, 1977 Heisman runner-up Terry Miller, Ernest Anderson and Thurman Thomas. He has two regular-season games remaining, and on his current pace, he would pass all but Sanders on the school's single-season chart. "We're proud of what he's done," Gundy said. "But at some point, you have to look and say, `OK, is this a quarterback award?' Or do running backs or other positions potentially get involved." Dillon Stoner caught five passes for a career-high 150 yards and two touchdowns and Spencer Sanders passed for 168 yards and a touchdown for the Cowboys (7-3, 4-3 Big 12, No. 22 CFP, who won their third straight. Hubbard scored his first touchdown just over three minutes into the game. He ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the first half to help Oklahoma State take a 24-0 lead. In the third quarter, backup quarterback Dru Brown threw a perfect strike for a 43-yard touchdown to Stoner to push the lead to 31-0. Oklahoma State gained 481 total yards, including 243 rushing. Carter Stanley passed for 226 yards and two touchdowns for Kansas (3-7, 1-6). It was the first meeting between Kansas coach Les Miles and Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy. Gundy was Miles' offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 2001 to 2004 before Miles left to become head coach at LSU and Gundy took over as head coach for the Cowboys. Miles appreciated the chance to return. "I really like this place," he said. "The people here were kind to my family. I had two children born here. I enjoyed it and always look back and think how special this place is to my family." THE TAKEAWAY Kansas: The Jayhawks were routed for the third time this season. They had lost just 50-48 to Texas earlier in the year and had been close in two other losses. On Saturday, the Jayhawks got off to a rough start and never got into the game. Oklahoma State allowed just 290 total yards, including 39 yards rushing. STEPPING UP Stoner has been a critical piece of Oklahoma State's offense since star receiver Tylan Wallace was injured. In the past two games, Stoner has eight catches for 243 yards and four touchdowns. "I wouldn't really say stepping up because he's always played at that level," Sanders said. "He's that good of a player. I believe he's really one of our truly talented guys who's just outstanding, so I wouldn't say `stepped up,' I would say people are starting to notice because that's who Stoner is." SHUT DOWN Kansas running back Pooka Williams entered the game third in the Big 12 with 90.8 yards rushing per game in league play. He was held to 26 yards on 12 carries on Saturday. "We were very aggressive on defense," Gundy said. "We were able to contain them. Their running back is a good player. He usually breaks one every week, but we were able to contain him." KICKING WOES Oklahoma State kicker Matt Ammendola entered the game having made 14 of 15 field goals. In this game, he made one from 44 yards, but missed from 26, 45 and 48 yards. SANDERS HURT Sanders left the game in the third quarter with a right (throwing) hand injury, and he wore a light brace after the game. Gundy said the move was precautionary and he wanted to give Brown a chance to play. Brown completed 3 of 5 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska always brings out the best in Jonathan Taylor. The Wisconsin star ran for 204 yards and two touchdowns in the No. 15 Badgers' 37-21 win on Saturday in a performance that further etched his name into the record books. Taylor became the first Football Bowl Subdivision player since at least 2000 to run for 200 yards three times against the same team, according to Sportradar. He recorded his 11th 200-yard game, moving into a four-way tie for most in a career by an FBS player. And now with 5,634 career yards, Taylor moved past Georgia's Herschel Walker (1980-82) into first place for most yards rushing through a junior season. "I'm a big fan of him, right?" Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst said with a smile. "Who he is and how he goes about this is the thing that you appreciate the most. It is hard to run the ball, and to do what he's been doing, and he'd be the first one to say, it takes everyone. I feel blessed, being able to be around him. And the best part is we've still got more games to play. He is truly special, and in so many ways." Taylor had 221 yards against the Cornhuskers last year and 249 in 2017. Taylor averaged 8.2 yards on his 25 carries, often dragging defenders for extra yards. He had his third 200-yard game of the season against a Nebraska defense that was missing starting linemen Darrion Daniels and Carlos Davis. "You can't really come with the same scheme on offense each and every single year," Taylor said, "so (coaches) always do a good job just putting little wrinkles in for this game in order to keep Nebraska on their toes and make it so they don't know really what's coming all the time." The Badgers (8-2, 5-2 Big Ten, No. 14 CFP) quickly erased a 14-10 deficit in the second quarter. Jack Coan threw over the middle to A.J. Taylor, who spun away from two defenders and ran the rest of the way untouched for a 55-yard touchdown. Wisconsin linebacker Jack Sanborn intercepted a tipped ball on the first play of Nebraska's next series, and Jonathan Taylor ran in from the 1 to finish a short drive that put the Badgers ahead 24-14. The Huskers (4-6, 2-5) have lost four straight and five of their last six. They've dropped 10 in a row against Top 25 opponents. "I'm tired of looking for silver linings," Nebraska coach Scott Frost said. "This team has to decide it's going to do whatever it takes to change it, and we had opportunities today." We took the Nebraska job as a staff because we figured we would have the runway to build this and build this the right way. Missouri women drop road game at Green Bay 72-64

JOSEPH –&nbsp;The Missouri Western women's basketball team (2-1) opened its home season with a dismantling of former MIAA foe Southwest Baptist (1-1) Friday night 84-63.&nbsp;The Griffons led wire-to-wire, leading by as many as 24 points. MARYVILLE, Missouri - The No. 3-ranked Washburn&nbsp;Ichabods&nbsp;took advantage of late surges in each set to propel the visitors to a 3-0 win over the No. 19-ranked Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team on Friday at Bearcat Arena. The three-set match featured 36 ties and 18 lead changes. The third set alone had 17 ties and seven lead changes. Washburn won by set scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 27-25. The&nbsp;Ichabods&nbsp;move to 25-2 overall and 17-2 in&nbsp;MIAA&nbsp;play, while Northwest drops to 19-8 overall and 12-7 in league action. Washburn posted a four-point lead at 8-4 and kept the margin at four when it took a 12-8 advantage. Northwest used 6-1 run to take a 14-13 lead. Following a 15-15 tie, Washburn scored three straight points to force a Northwest timeout. The Ichabod lead did not dip below two points the rest of the set and the visitors claimed a 25-20 opening set win. Washburn hit .244 with 19 kills, while Northwest hit .171 with 10 kills. Washburn sided out at 60%, while Northwest sided out at a 48% clip in the first set. The second set had 13 ties and seven lead changes. However, only one of those lead changes occurred after a 15-15 when the&nbsp;Ichabods&nbsp;churned out 10 straight points to win the set, 25-15. Washburn hit .238 with 14 kills and only four attack errors. Northwest was held to nine kills and hit .053 with seven attack errors. Washburn sided out at 68%, while Northwest sided out at 41% in the second. The Bearcats came out strong in the third set and built a 10-7 lead before the&nbsp;Ichabods&nbsp;were forced to burn a timeout. Washburn eventually took a 17-15 lead of its own, which forced Bearcat head coach Amy&nbsp;Woerth&nbsp;to use her first timeout of the set. The Bearcats responded out of the timeout and took a 20-19 lead. Washburn head coach Chris Herron took his second timeout of the set as the Bearcats held a late advantage. The&nbsp;Ichabods&nbsp;returned the favor with a three-point run to take a 22-20 lead and have the Bearcats use their final timeout of the set. Northwest trailed 23-22 and then got a kill from Bethany Elkins and an attack error by Washburn's Kelsey Gordon to give the Bearcats a set point. Gordon got a kill of her own to even the set at 24-24. Elkins tallied a solo block to give Northwest its second set point, but Gordon came back with another kill to level the set at 25-25. The&nbsp;Ichabods&nbsp;used a combo block from Allison Maxwell and Allison Sadler to give Washburn its first match point. The&nbsp;Ichabods&nbsp;took advantage of the opening and closed out the three-set win with an Erica Montgomery kill. No. 19 Northwest volleyball gets swept by No. 3 Washburn

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Kansas was seconds away from another lopsided win in Allen Fieldhouse when Monmouth's George Papas stole the ball from freshman Tristan Enaruna and ran the other way for a dunk, triggering a minor scuffle under the bucket. It was the most fight the Hawks showed all night. Isaiah Moss poured in 21 points to lead six Jayhawks in double-figure scoring, and No. 5 Kansas romped to a 112-57 victory over its undersized and outclassed MEAC opponent Friday night. "I'm a super, super competitive guy," Monmouth coach King Rice said, "and we lost our cool a little bit here tonight at the end of the game. We were down by 100 points. We get a dunk and we bark at the kid -- that is uncalled for. That is not what our program represents. "You get beat by a better team," Rice said, "you shake their hand, you walk off the court." Jayhawks coach Bill Self wasn't too worried about it, though. "I'm actually glad it happened," Self said, "because we've been on Tristan the whole time about being casual. That's a prime example of being casual." Then again, the whole win was a casual affair for Kansas. Moss, who missed the season opener against Duke because of an injury, was 5 of 6 from beyond the arc as the Jayhawks (2-1) ran their home winning streak to 23 straight games. The streak is the third-longest in the nation behind only Tennessee (28) and Gonzaga (25). Devon Dotson and David McCormack added 17 points, Udoka Azubuike had 12 points and eight boards, and Christian Braun and Silvio de Sousa finished with 11 apiece for the Jayhawks. "The first half we were pretty good. I thought we were turned up. I thought we defended well," said Self, whose team hit 14 3-pointers and shot 56 percent from the field. "We were all pretty good." Deion Hammond had 17 points to lead the Hawks (1-3, who didn't make a field goal until midway through the first half. George Papas had 12 points and Ray Salnave added 11. The Jayhawks, who got off to a sluggish start against UNC-Greensboro, had no such trouble against the Hawks. They scored the first nine points, pushed their opening run to 21-2, and added an alley-oop dunk and a deep 3-pointer before Monmouth finally made a shot. By that point, the Jayhawks led 26-6. "We just wanted to bring energy," Moss said. "It starts with defense, just talking, and then letting the game come to us offensively." The end of the half was just as lopsided: After the Hawks got within 41-19 on Hammond's 3-pointer, Kansas began an 18-2 closing run capped by Azubuike's dunk in the final seconds. Part of the big lead came through efficient offense and excellent defense by Kansas. Part of it came by way of Monmouth's offensive ineptitude. The Hawks missed their first 12 shots, throwing up an airball, shooting a jumper over the backboard and blowing a layup along the way. At one point they had nearly as many turnovers (four) as shot attempts (five, and they finished the half 6-for-26 shooting with 12 turnovers. Monmouth added whistles to its long list of problems in the second half. The Jayhawks scored the first six points out of the locker room, and the Hawks' only recourse was to slow them down with fouls. Kansas hit the bonus with 15:20 left in the game. "Everybody was hard to guard tonight," Rice said. "I'm sorry my team didn't play as well as I think we can, and I'm sorry my team lost its cool at the end." BIG PICTURE Monmouth gave Kansas State all it could handle earlier this week, leading another Big 12 foe at the half. But the Hawks fell apart over the final 20 minutes and evidently never put it back together. Kansas got little more than a glorified practice out of Friday night, but tougher tests are coming fast. Moss leads No. 5 Kansas to 112-57 romp over Monmouth

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Cam Mack scored a career-high 24 points and Nebraska raced to a 31-point first-half lead on the way to defeating South Dakota State 90-73 on Friday to get Fred Hoiberg his first win as Cornhuskers coach. Nebraska (1-2) struggled to score its first two games, but came out hot, hitting 60 percent of its shots in the first 15 minutes of the game. South Dakota State (3-2) hit just one of its first 10 shots, falling behind 12-2 when Nebraska's Haanif Cheatam hit a fast-break layup five minutes into the game. The Huskers put the game out of reach with a 19-2, four-minute run, to lead 45-14 on Yvan Ouedraogo's putback layup with 4:50 left in the half. Nebraska led by 24 at halftime. South Dakota State trailed by at least 20 until midway through the second half and got no closer than the 17-point final margin. Dachon Burke and Cheatam had 17 points each for Nebraska. Kevin Cross scored 10. Douglas Wilson had 15 points to lead South Dakota State. Brandon Key had 12 points and Trey Buchanan had 11 points. BIG PICTURE South Dakota State: The Jackrabbits looked like a tired team playing their third road game in a week. They had traveled to California for a double-overtime win against CSU Bakersfield and a loss to USC on Tuesday before coming to Lincoln Friday. Mack scores 24 as Nebraska picks up first win for Hoiberg

CINCINNATI -- Paul Scruggs saw an opening and went to the basket for the shot that would finally give No. 21 Xavier some breathing room. Scruggs scored 14 points and made a layup with 11.6 seconds left Friday night, helping the Musketeers hold off Missouri State for a 59-56 victory. The Musketeers (4-0) never trailed but couldn't shake clear of the team picked to win the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bears (2-2) tied it at 56, but Xavier made a free throw and two big plays in the closing seconds. Coach Travis Steele sensed his players got comfortable after running out to a 10-0 lead. "I felt when we got up early, our guys thought it would be easy," Steele said. "I could tell by their faces and eyes in the huddle." Instead, it would come down to the closing seconds. After Naji Marshall's free throw broke the tie, Tyrique Jones missed a jumper but got the rebound and passed it out. Scruggs got the ball and saw an opening for a layup and a 59-56 lead. "I had an open lane and I took it," Scruggs said. Steele was going to call a timeout until he saw the ball go to Scruggs. "The clock was dwindling down and I almost called timeout but I saw the ball get swung to Paul and said, `We're just going to let this thing roll," Steele said. "He's fearless. He's ready for that moment." The Bears missed a pair of 3-point shots in the closing seconds. Lamont West and Keandre Cook scored 13 points apiece for the Bears, who had 22 turnovers. "We haven't been playing very well," coach Dana Ford said. "But I take encouragement from a game like this. The way we've been playing, we could have come in here and lost by 20. We're playing better than we were." Jones added 15 points and six rebounds but had five of Xavier's 15 turnovers. The Musketeers again struggled to make perimeter shots, going 5 of 23 from beyond the arc against the Bears' 1-3-1 zone defense. The Musketeers were coming off a ragged 63-58 overtime victory over Missouri. They blew a 15-point lead and rallied from behind to send it overtime on Marshall's 3-pointer late in regulation. On Friday, the Musketeers opened with a 10-0 run that included a 3-pointer by Quentin Goodin and prompted Missouri State to call a timeout to get settled down. The Bears kept it close the rest of the way, tying it twice in the second half. The Bears also took advantage of 10 Xavier turnovers in the first half and trailed 32-30 at the break. West's 3-pointer tied it at 36 early in the second half, but Scruggs hit a layup and a 3 as Xavier rebuilt the lead 49-40. The Musketeers couldn't break free, however, repeatedly missing open outside shots. Gaige Prim's fast-break dunk tied it at 56 with 1:29 to go. BIG PICTURE Missouri State: The Bears are 6-39 all-time against Top 25 teams. Their last win over a ranked team was 77-65 over No. 21 Creighton on Dec. 28, 2011. Xavier: The Musketeers came in shooting 20.6% from beyond the arc this season and were coming off a 3-for-21 performance against Missouri. "We're taking the 3s we want and we're taking the 3s we can hit," said Scruggs, who was 2 of 5 beyond the arc. "We just need to get in the gym and make more shots." SEEN YOU SOON?
