Jordan Mathew Stanton, 29, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024.

He was born March 23, 1995 in St. Joseph to Danel Fuqua and Doug Stanton. Jordan grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Christian Academy.

Jordan was very proud of his job as a forklift operator at Clarios, but his real passion was his side job as a barber. He even had his own chair, giving family and friends haircuts, and was working toward having his own shop.

He enjoyed music, cars, and hanging out with his friends. A lively person who always got the party going, Jordan was a light for his family and friends who will be dearly missed.

Most of all, Jordan was a good father to his kids and cherished his time with them.

He was preceded in death by grandparents; and brother, Tyler Payne.

Survivors include his mother, Danel Fuqua; father, Doug Stanton; son, Bentley Chambers; daughter, Brensley Stanton; siblings, Austin Sprake and Skyleigh Scheerer; niece, Marcella Sollars; grandmother, Virgena Suman Fuqua; uncle, Charles Turman; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Jack Pinion, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

He was born July 29, 1944 in Mecca, Missouri to Lillard and Alma (Hartman) Pinion.

Jack married Beverly Carpenter on February 14, 1969.

He served in the United States Navy. He also was a past Commander of the American Legion. He also attended Eastside Baptist Church.

Jack worked as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 22 years. He also enjoyed farming and attending farm auctions. He was always available to help the family when needed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Stella McKinnon.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; siblings, Linda and Larry Pinion; cousin, Barbara Hopkins; extended family and friends.

He loved BBQing, classic rock, shooting pool, collecting monkeys &amp; gumball machines and drinking a cold one. Some of his fondest memories are those he spent with his daughter Miquela. He spent an abundance of time with his niece Valerie (Rick) Banks-Patton of St Joseph, nephew Jeremey Smith &amp; his sister of 40+ years Bonnie (David) Coon of St. Joseph. Claude frequently visited with his nieces and nephews that live locally. Including Michelle Lesher, Shon Taylor &amp; Stephen Smith.

Claude leaves behind his daughter Miquela (Brandon) Cluff, 5 grandkids, his brothers: Thomas, Howard &amp; Charles, sister Elaine (Tom) Spray, and many many nieces and nephews.

Claude was proceeded in death by his parents Howard &amp; Bert Smith, baby brother Jerry Don, nephew Sean Spray, sister Sandy Guy Hedrick, son Brent Sexton &amp; many friends.

Richard Dale Bauman Sr., 73, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

Richard was born on October 25, 1950, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Melvin and Esther (Schoenfelder) Bauman.

He was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day and farmed most of his life.

Richard married Roberta Simpson on December 31, 1970, in St. Joseph, Missouri. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Carl Bauman, sister, Loretta Bauman, nephew, John Bauman, niece, Jody Sue Bauman.

Additional survivors include, children, Rick Bauman (Shelly), Katherine Moppin, Samantha Fansher (Brian), Julie Karn (Rodger), Phillip Bauman (Stephanie) and Jonathan Bauman (Jennifer). 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Timothy "Tim" Roy Embrey 71, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at his home. He was born January 13, 1953 in Smithville, MO. 

He married Linda Harris on August 17, 1968, and she survives of the home. Tim worked at Walnut Products until it closed, then retired from Hillyard Chemical Company. He enjoyed auto body painting, recreational shooting, and spending time with grandchildren. He attended South Park United Methodist Church. 

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Embrey, mother, Ruth Marie (Fattig) Embrey. 

Survivors include: wife, Linda Sue Embrey of the home, sons, Tim S. (Brittney) Embrey and Kevin (Cathy) Embrey, brothers, Clarence "JR" (Sharon) Embrey and David Embrey, grandchildren; Bailey, Payge (Ryan), Makiah, Ashton (Malcom), Bryston, Alyssa, and Legend, great grandchildren, Elijah, Amiyah, Jade, Maverick, Caden, Gianna, Avianna, Kinsley, and Quinn, and his best friends, Ron &amp; Debbie Mitchell, as well as several nieces, nephews, and good friends.&nbsp;

Frank Ramon Stewart 51, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024 in St. Joseph, MO at his home. He was born September 25, 1972 in Omaha, NE, son of the late Carol and Nathan Stewart Jr.

Wanda Corwin passed away on August 28,2024, at a local hospital, surrounded by family. She was born in Guilford, Missouri on May 19,1939, to Ray and Gertrude (Rhodes) Langley. Wanda attended Horace Mann in Maryville. She began her working career as a bookkeeper in St. Joseph for multiple companies until retiring with her beloved husband, A. Rex Corwin. They were married on April 12,1968 and settled in Savannah where they would raise their family.

Wanda's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (they really love their Grammy) especially if they were on the water boating on the Missouri river or in Lake of the Ozarks. She also enjoyed antiquing and going to the river casino with friends.

Survivors include her children, Darla (Randy) Diggs and Stew (Janette) Corwin; grandchildren, Jessica (Tom) Richards, Jake (Amy) Diggs, Jared Corwin and partner Kate and Joel Corwin; and great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Tyler, Jaxson and Lily Diggs and Elliana and Wyatt Richards. She was preceded in death by parents; siblings Floyd, Lavonne, Ramona, Hershel and Shirley; grandson, Josh Diggs and husband Rex.

Visitation will be Tuesday September 3rd at 1:00 pm with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman Chapel, St. Joseph. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials can be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.

Angela Susann (White) Woods of Oregon, Missouri, died in a tragic accident on August 25, 2024, at the age of 57.

Angela was born on August 4, 1967, in Dayton, Ohio, to Ronald and Betty White. Angela was raised in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, and spent much of her life living throughout the state, where she raised her three children.

She is survived by her daughter, Tabi Jeffreys, son-in-law Bryce Jeffreys and their children, Carter and Presley Jeffreys; her son, Ryan Sager, and daughter-in-law Tasha Sager; her daughter, Tori Walton and son-in-law, Thomas Walton; and her siblings, Ronda, Beverly and Mike White.

Angela’s most cherished role was being the best “Nana” to her two grandchildren. She loved spending time with her best friend Katy, going to renaissance fairs and enjoyed outdoor adventures.

Known for her vibrancy and kindness, Angela will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Angela‘s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to other's in life and not the sadness of her sudden passing.

Phyllis Marie Bertels, 91, formerly of Nortonville, KS died on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Nortonville with Fr. William Dun-Dery as Celebrant. Phyllis was born on Feb. 12, 1933, in Nortonville, KS, the daughter of Frank Elmer and Bertha Ellen (Haas) Noll. She graduated from Winchester High School in 1950. Phyllis was a homemaker and housewife supporting her husband and family. She was member of the St. Joseph Church, Nortonville, served on the Altar Society, Church and Community Choir, was a member of the Nortonville Progressive Club and assisted with the research for the Nortonville Centennial Book. Phyllis enjoyed oil painting, cake decorating, sewing doll clothing and clothing for her family. She was an avid KU Jayhawk and KC Chiefs sports fan and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was married to Vincent F. Bertels on April 3, 1951, at Corpus Christi Church, Mooney Creek. They were married for 72 years before Vincent preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 2023. Survivors include three daughters Sharon (Russell) McCort, Shawnee, KS, Eileen (the late James) Dray, Lawrence, KS, and Darlene (Bill) Rogers, Lawrence, KS. Seven grandchildren Melissa Dray, Amanda Dray, Suzanne Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Sarah (Bill) Saxton, Rachel (John) Draper, Hannah (Peter) Stolberg and six great grandchildren Annelise and Charlotte Grace Stolberg, Will Saxton, Penelope, Daphne, and Teddy Draper.

Her parents, husband Vincent, sister Ellen Respass, and granddaughter Carolyn Ann Rogers preceded her in death.

She was member of the St. Joseph Church, Nortonville, served on the Altar Society, Church and Community Choir, was a member of the Nortonville Progressive Club and assisted with the research for the Nortonville Centennial Book. Phyllis enjoyed oil painting, cake decorating, sewing doll clothing and clothing for her family. She was an avid KU Jayhawk and KC Chiefs sports fan and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.She was married to Vincent F. Bertels on April 3, 1951, at Corpus Christi Church, Mooney Creek. They were married for 72 years before Vincent preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 2023. Survivors include three daughters Sharon (Russell) McCort, Shawnee, KS, Eileen (the late James) Dray, Lawrence, KS, and Darlene (Bill) Rogers, Lawrence, KS. Seven grandchildren Melissa Dray, Amanda Dray, Suzanne Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Sarah (Bill) Saxton, Rachel (John) Draper, Hannah (Peter) Stolberg and six great grandchildren Annelise and Charlotte Grace Stolberg, Will Saxton, Penelope, Daphne, and Teddy Draper.Her parents, husband Vincent, sister Ellen Respass, and granddaughter Carolyn Ann Rogers preceded her in death.<figure>

Hershel Langley, Country Club, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at a local hospital, surrounded by family. He was born in Guilford, Missouri on August 8, 1941, to Ray and Gertrude (Rhodes) Langley. Hershel attended Horace Mann Lab school in Maryville, graduating in 1959. He worked the wheat harvest in Montana before returning to the area to begin working for the American Can Company. &nbsp; &nbsp; On February 16, 1963, he married the love of his life Kathryn DeFreece of Ravenwood and settled in St. Joseph where they would raise their family. Hershel drove for Crouch Brothers Trucking for 13 years and then at Prime Tanning as a traffic manager until his retirement in 2008.

Hershel greatest joy was spending time around the water camping, skiing, and fishing. He and his son Brit became avid anglers. He enjoyed travelling to Texas to visit his friend, Les, and while there, participated in several fishing tournaments, bringing home the gold. Les would travel to Missouri in the winter to hunt with Hershel and his dogs Spike and Chelsea. In 1999, Hershel and his buddies built a raft and launched it in the mighty Missouri River floating all the way to Saint Louis. &nbsp;

He once drove a fire truck to a Las Vegas convention. Kathryn, Rex and Wanda went along for two weeks of adventures. Some of his greatest stories come from the time spent with the Southside Sertoma club. He enjoyed volunteering at the Deaf Camp where he would get to cook and spend time with the campers.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years Kathryn; children, Brit (Beth) Langley of St. Joseph and Tonya El Masri of Basehor, KS; grandchildren, Caroline and Zachary Langley, Kiandra and Sameera El Masri; sister, Wanda Corwin and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Floyd, Lavonne, Ramona and Shirley.

Dixie (Wykert) Meng, 81, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City.

Dixie was born on March 8, 1943, in Burr Oak Township in Doniphan County, Kansas to Harold and Gladys (Harness) Wykert. She was a lifelong resident of Doniphan County. Dixie retired from the Elwood School District where she was a cook for several years.

She is a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, LWL, Quilt Club of the Church, Red Hat Society, Iowa Point Community Club and Wathena Garden Club.

As we remember the wife, mother, grandmother and friend that Dixie was, we think of the hard-working, tough-loving, God-fearing legacy that she has left behind. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite pastimes were quilting, playing cards (cheating sometimes haha), volunteering at the church, crocheting, gardening, cooking and baking and all things travelling. Her biggest joy in life was her family and making sure they were taken care of in every way. Everything she did, she did with love – whether that was putting us back on the straight and narrow or giving us a shoulder to cry on. She was one of the hardest working women that God placed on this side of heaven. She kept our hearts full of love and our bellies full of homemade raspberry jelly, pies, noodles and so much more. She was the light of our lives and she kept our world turning. She will be missed dearly by so many.

Dixie married Bob Meng on September 16, 1961, in Wathena, Kansas. He survives the home. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 3 brothers, Donnie, Johnny and Jimmy Wykert.

Larry Ervin Allwood, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Maysville, MO, on August 26, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on June 4, 1942, to Ervin (Bud) and Ethel (Grace) Allwood, Larry was a lifelong resident of Maysville, where he made an indelible mark on the community.

On July 7, 1968, Larry married the love of his life, Rochele Ann (Dent) Allwood, with whom he shared over five decades of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Richard (Karen) Allwood, Michele Allwood, and Patty Allwood, who were the pride and joy of his life.

Larry was the proud owner and proprietor of Eastside Tavern in Maysville, a cherished local establishment he ran for 50 years. Known for his warm smile and friendly demeanor, Larry took great pleasure in visiting with his customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. The tavern was not just a business for Larry; it was a place where memories were made, and community ties were strengthened.

In his spare time, Larry enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time with his family, taking trips to the lake, fishing, and boating. He had a particular fondness for scratching lottery tickets and hunting for mushrooms, activities that brought him joy and relaxation.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and his daughter-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife, Rochele; his children; his cherished grandchildren: Austin (Laura) Blevins, Sammantha Allwood, Jordan Allwood, Erin (AJ) Ripp, Victoria Allwood, Briley (Chrystal) Allwood, Pete Wills, and Emma Laipple; and five beloved great-grandchildren: Sophia, Nathan, William, Nevaeh, and Malachi. His legacy of love, kindness, and community will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Larry will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to bring warmth and smiles to those who remember him.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Nicole Schwartz-Eck officiating. &nbsp;Visitation with the family will be Thursday at 10:00 until time of service at the funeral home. Jim was born September 1, 1929, in Lancaster, Kansas the son of Thomas L. and Ida E. Jahne McCubbin. He attended Sunny Hill rural Route School in Effingham, Kansas then Atchison County Community High School from 1944 thru 1945 in Effingham and then Atchison High School for two years graduating in 1947. He was a 1972 graduate of Southern Police Institute University of Louisville, Kentucky: a 1978 graduate of Missouri Western College in St. Joseph, MO and a 1982 graduate of Homicide Investigation, FBI Academy, Quantico, VA.

He and Mary M. Maycroft were united in marriage on June 8, 1952, in Atchison, Kansas.

Jim served from March 15, 1952, until December 30, 1965, with the Atchison Police Department as a top rank detective Lieutenant; and from January 1, 1966, until March 1, 1987, as a special agent for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and from 1987 until March of 2002 in contract investigation in the federal office inv. (OPM Division); and from 1987 until his retirement, he served as a self-employed wedding photographer.

Jim served in the United States Air Force from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1951 as an Airman.

Survivors include four daughters, Pamela K. “Pam” Schwartz, Atchison, KS; Virginia L. “Ginny” (Mark) Bailey, Atchison, KS; Julia L. “Julie” (Jeff) Houston, Grain Valley, MO; Darla J. McCarver, Springfield, MO; and two granddaughters, Nicole Schwartz-Eck (Jeremiah) and Maryl Chapman (Roland); and one great grandson, Cole James Eck. &nbsp;One sister-in-law, Rosie Maycroft, Atchison, KS. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and both parents and two sons-in-law, Dr. Jack Chapman and Jack McCarver.

From 1966 until 1987 he was a member of Metropolitan area Major Case Squad (Metro Squad), Kansas City, MO; in 1977 he was named as “Honored Citizen” by the Atchison Kiwanis Club; was a board member of United States Selective Service System; Salvation Army disaster service; a volunteer member of the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary and an active member of Atchison United Methodist Church where he held all offices during his fifty plus years as a member. He was a life member of Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion and a fifty-year member of the Masonic Lodge #158.

Melva Jean Harrison, 85, formerly of Lancaster, KS died on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Atchison Senior Village. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, at Lancaster Church of Faith, with Rev. Seth Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. Melva was born on May 5, 1939, in Denver, CO, the daughter of Harry C. and Elizabeth (Scofield) Searles. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1957 and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate from the Atchison Hospital. Melva worked as an LPN for the Atchison Hospital, Dr. Tayiem’s Office, Atchison Medicalodge and then retired from the Outpatient Clinic at the Atchison Hospital. She was an active member of the former United Methodist Church in Lancaster, serving as an Adult Sunday School teacher, as financial secretary, on the Outreach Committee and the Lay Leadership Committee. She enjoyed reading, raising flowers in her flower garden, and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Melva was married to William Wells in 1959. They were later divorced. She was married to Raymond Harrison in June 1969, and he preceded her in death in August 2004. Survivors include a son, Bill (Carol) Wells, Maple Hill, KS, a daughter, Shelley Pruett (Jim Buttron), Lancaster, KS, three stepdaughters: Sherry Pennington, Easton, KS, Belinda Jacobson, and Kimberly Winston, both of Kansas City, MO, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband Ray Harrison, and a grandson Bryce Pruett, preceded her in death.

Melva Jean Harrison, 85, formerly of Lancaster, KS died on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Atchison Senior Village. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, at Lancaster Church of Faith, with Rev. Seth Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. George Wesley Lockard Jr., 60, Savannah, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024.

He was born December 12, 1963, to George Sr. and Jane (Harrington) Lockard in Lafayette, Indiana.

He was a member of the United States Army.

George was a diesel mechanic for different companies, including Waste Management Services and Love’s Truck Stop.

George enjoyed watching NASCAR, playing pool, and working on cars and motorcycles.

Survivors include his longtime partner, Carrie Madel, and his daughter, Giovanna.

Sherry L. Coon, 75, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024.

She was born August 8, 1949 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Dallas M. Sr. and Verlea M. (Widener) Kretzer. Sherry graduated from Lafayette High School in 1967. She later graduated from Front Range Community College with her associate’s degree in science and electronics. She had retired from Avaya Communications after 35 years.

Sherry married Gary Coon on December 21, 1968.

She was a member of New Home Baptist Church, Red Hat Society, and AFL-CIO.

Sherry was an avid Broncos fan. She also enjoyed reading and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gary; sisters, Mary Vaughn and Pamela Stewart.

Survivors include her daughters, Stephanie Coon, Michelle Gentile (Alfonso), and Goldie Brix (Steve); grandchildren, Jesse Meyer (Beth) and Shondra Aitchison; great-grandchildren, Valery Acevedo-Mancia and Everett Meyer; numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.

James "Bill" F. Stewart, 75, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024 at his home. He was born November 18, 1948 in Wallace, MO, son of Jane and Wentlo Stewart. 

He attended Benton High School. Bill married Karen Leach on July 3, 1979 in St. Joseph. He served in the Army, and is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a long time Truck Driver working many years primarily at Barlow Truck Lines, and he Owned/Operated his own truck for several years. He enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his animals, and his time at home. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. 

He was preceded in death by mother, Jane Stewart - Nell, father, Wentlo Stewart, step-daughter, Lori Ellis, and brother, Thomas Stewart. 

Survivors include: wife, Karen Sue Stewart of the home, children, James "Jimmy" Stewart Jr. and Christina (Terry) Jennings, all of Iowa, sister, Ina (Steve) Cox of St. Joseph, brother, John (Jackie) Stewart of Fillmore, MO, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Rupp Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday. Entombment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Tradition's Hospice and their care team for the care they provided.

Born April 8, 2018 in Hungary, K-9 Horus was a joyful and fun German Shepherd. He joined the Savannah Police Department in February 2021, after completing an extensive eight-week training with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Horus was accomplished in drug detection, search and rescue, evidence recovery, building and article searches, and criminal apprehension. He faithfully served and protected his community with 121 complete deployments, 76 drug indications, 47 drug seizures and 49 arrests. His contributions to the Savannah Police Department will forever be appreciated and remembered.&nbsp;

Horus enjoyed his work, running and swimming, his family, and his partners in blue. Most of all he delighted in any time he could spend chasing around basketballs or soccer balls.
