Ronald “Ron” G. Curtis, Sr., 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022.

He was born December 26, 1939 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Harrison and Lydia (Berry) Curtis.

Ron married Carolyn Wilkinson on February 14, 1965. She survives of the home.

He was a member of Emmanuel Seventh-Day Adventist Church in St. Joseph and a former member of Liberty Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Baltimore, Maryland.

Ron was a hardworking, humble man who loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Curtis; and sisters, Leanna Giles and Jean Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; children, Ronald G. Curtis, Jr., Carl Curtis (Johnia), Craig Curtis (Christine), Tracy Curtis-Hurt (Eric), and Travis Curtis; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Louis Curtis (Maddie); and sister, Louise Cole.

Mary Thayer Patrick, 81 of Danville, Iowa, died Sunday, November 13, 2022 at Danville Care Center.

Born
 May 5, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Everett Frederick 
and Cora Lena (Breuer) Miller.  She was of the Methodist faith.

On
 March 30, 1963 she married Wendall “Curtis” Thayer.  He died January 
24, 1994.  Mary married Michael Patrick in 1996.  He died in June 2016.

Mary was a secretary for ProGas, Motorola, Burlington Basket Company, Sylvania and IAAP.

Survivors
 include one daughter Julie (Todd) Howe of Burlington; one son Aaron 
(Robin) Thayer of Gilbert, AZ; six grandchildren Samantha (Rusty) Mears,
 Rachelle (Justin) Fairlie, Kody Howe, Brooke Thayer and Zachary Thayer;
 six great grandchildren Jaxon and Cameron Fairlie, Kingston and Cora 
Mears, Lillianne and Chase Barton and one brother Wayne (Margaret) 
Miller of St. Joseph, MO.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and step mother Violet Ida Miller, her husbands, one brother and one sister.

Per
 her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of 
Lunning Chapel.  There will be no services at this time. Inurnment will 
be at a later date in Prairie Grove Cemetery next to her first husband.

A memorial has been established for the Danville Lions Club.

William “Bill” Lewis Ellis, 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022, with his family by his side.

He was born February 19, 1944 in St. Joseph to Jesse and Minnie (Brown) Ellis. He graduated from DeKalb High School in 1962, where he earned state track medals in the pole vault and played on the football team with his brothers, Jessie and Norman.

Bill married June Marie Harris in 1962 and they later divorced. She preceded him in death in February 2014. He married Linda E. Tull on November 25, 1987. They later divorced.

He worked for Rockwell Foundry for eight years, then as a Car Man for Union Pacific Railroad for 28 years.

Bill loved fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, going to the apple orchard and Walmart, and getting ice cream at Dairy Queen. He also loved watching the Chiefs and Royals, playing Powerball and the lottery, taking photos of the family, and cooking for the holidays – especially making popcorn balls.

He was always busy with yardwork, gardening, building and fixing things. Bill helped everyone he could, especially his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, William Lewis Ellis; his parents; and brothers, Jessie, Norman and Clyde Ellis.

He was born on December 2, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, to Carl and Carol (Johnson) Rouse.

Donald married Barbara Brim on July 28, 1979, in St. Joseph, Missouri. She survives of the home.

He was a jack of all trades. He worked as a Vinyl Installer in Construction, but was also a certified Mobile Home Installer, a certified Lead Abatement, and a certified Chef.

He enjoyed tons of outdoor activities, such as hunting, gardening, fishing, and just enjoying nature. He also enjoyed antiquing, cars, crafting, classic rock music, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Donald was a great father and grandfather, and a loving husband.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Rouse.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; mother, Carol; sister, Debbie Haber (Brad); daughters, Jessica Cacioppo (Frank) and Janette Roach (Justin); son-in-law, Davee Lanham; grandchildren, Timaree, Ivan, Logan, Baylee, Lillian, and Landon; and his fur babies, Minnie and Moe.

Her hobbies included collecting bird houses, dolls, cats &amp; chickens, and she enjoyed children, grandchildren, hobbies, church and drawing. She was married to Delbert R. Brewer on May 19, 1949, in Atchison in a double wedding with her sister Isabelle. Mr. Brewer preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1999. Mary Ann Brewer (Graves) 1930 - 2022

John Edward Daily (Johnny), 95, peacefully passed away on November 4, 2022 at home near Bendena, Kansas. He was born in St. Louis, MO on February 28, 1927, to John Francis and Barbara Margaret (Schuchmann) Daily, the oldest of eight children. He graduated from Wentzville High School and married the love of his life, Alberta House, on September 19, 1969, at St. Patrick Church, Wentzville, MO. Johnny was a generous, loving person as a son, brother, husband, stepfather, grandfather, and uncle.

Johnny worked on his parents’ dairy farm, then operated Daily Building Co. for many years. He delighted in building new houses and renovating others. He taught many of his nephews, stepsons, and grandchildren the tricks of the trade. He was a faithful friend to many and was very generous with employees and relatives who needed help. Johnny was a parishioner at St. Patrick Church in Wentzville, MO for nearly 70 years. He did volunteer carpentry at church and was an usher for 50 years. Johnny was a World War II Veteran and belonged to the American Legion and VFW in Wentzville, MO. He belonged to the American Legion Bowling League; their team won many tournaments over the years. Johnny also enjoyed playing pinochle with friends. He loved to drive and took many long trips across the U.S. with Alberta.

Johnny was a loving, devoted grandpa to his many grandchildren. He told them cowboy stories, listened to baseball games with them on the radio, read them the funny papers, and made them laugh.

In 2008, Johnny and Alberta moved to a beautiful country home near Bendena, KS. He loved taking long walks in the woods and hills, raising vegetables in his garden, having company, and of course, reading many books and newspapers. Johnny loved all things in nature – flowers, weeds, trees. He was a man with a great and funny disposition and frequently said something witty to make you laugh. Johnny had a great voice and occasionally would burst into song. He spent countless hours sitting with Alberta on his front porch and spent time on the porch the day before he passed.

John was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Alberta (August 24, 2022), his parents, and siblings: Mary Ann Dolson, Thomas Daily, Raymond Daily, Robert Daily, Harry Daily and Lillian Pearce, and stepchildren Jess House and Ev Orf.

Johnny is survived by his only living sibling, Sister Rose Daily, SSND, stepchildren: Janie (David) Bennett, Ron (Marilyn) Birkenmeier, Char Cox, Grace (Jess) House, Mike (Ev) Orf, Deborah (Thom) Buttner, and Linda (Bob Miller) House, 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be forever grateful to Johnny’s caregivers, Debbie and Carrie. They are selfless, patient, creative, and loving. Most importantly, they helped him know he was never alone.

Johnny had two wishes at age 95: to die at home and to go to Heaven as soon as possible; both wishes were granted.

Funeral Mass for Johnny will be January 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Church in Wentzville, MO, followed by a parish luncheon. Private inurnment will be next to his beloved wife at Alderson Cemetery, Atchison County, KS.

Maysville, MO …..Linda Sue Walker, age 80, was born September 29, 1942, in Maysville, Missouri, the daughter of Claude and Viola (Swope) Owen and passed away November 6, 2022.

Linda was a lifelong resident of Dekalb County and attended Maysville School graduating in 1960.&nbsp;&nbsp;On October 18, 1963, Linda married the love of her life, Lloyd Owen, at the Baptist church in Maysville, Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Linda worked the majority of her life as a secretary and bookkeeper. Many people remember her working for over 28 years for Eddie Pickett Auction Services, she and her husband, Lloyd’s service station and then his dirt work business, MFA Insurance Company, and later, when it became Shelter Insurance Company, as their secretary.&nbsp;

Linda was a textile artist when it came to crocheting, embroidery, quilting, and anything that had a needle and thread or yarn and hook. She delighted in making everyone in her family a handsewn Christmas present every year. She enjoyed traveling with her friends all around the country to tour different quilt stores and shops. She was an excellent baker and is known for her famous “Scotcheroos”.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kent Owen.

She is survived by her beloved husband of over 59 years, Lloyd, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2022, at Turner Family Funeral Home of Maysville, Missouri with burial following at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sister Donna Gottschalk, CSA, formerly Sister Philip, died peacefully November 2, 2022, at St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Donna Marie was born in La Crosse, Kansas, on May 6, 1940.&nbsp; She was the first daughter after eight sons born to Philip Gottschalk and Lidwina Werth Gottschalk. Following Donna, three more boys and two girls made the family of fourteen complete.

Donna spent her childhood keeping up with her brothers, doing farm and household chores, and learning very fast how to play baseball and football with the best. When Donna was six, the family moved to Hays, Kansas, to fulfill her parents’ desire for their children to have a Catholic education.&nbsp; In grade school and high school, Donna was taught by the Sisters of St. Agnes.&nbsp; From early on, she wanted to be just like the sisters. After high school, Donna, still undecided about pursuing her desire to be a sister, attended the College of Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, Kansas, taught by the Sisters of St. Benedict. In 1959, after her first year of college, Donna made the decision to enter St. Agnes Convent. Even though she missed the wheat fields of Kansas and the life she shared with her family, her call to religious life beckoned her to Wisconsin and CSA.&nbsp; She made her first profession of vows as Sister Philip in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes on August 15, 1962, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.&nbsp; Sister Donna earned a BS in Elementary Education from Marian College, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, in 1964. Sister taught primary grades in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Kansas for 31 years. She loved teaching and working with children, and they loved her and filled her heart with many happy memories.&nbsp; During her years as an educator, she enriched her teaching and religious education skills with several courses and seminars at Ft. Hays State University, Hays, Kansas and at Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin.&nbsp; In 1993, Sister Donna retired from teaching. After a year of sabbatical in Rock Haven, Missouri, in 1994, she engaged in a variety of ministries including serving on the parish team of Sacred Heart Parish in Colby, Kansas, and cooking for the residents at St. John’s New Horizons Assisted Living, Hays, Kansas. In 1998, Sister Donna returned to Fond du Lac as an assistant to the Local Coordinators for the CSA retirement community at Nazareth Court and Center. She spent countless hours providing for the needs of the sisters, shopping for them, driving, baking, preparing special meals and filling the sisters’ days with her caring and attentive presence and support. In 2018, a serious illness caused Sister Donna to resign her position. Unable to serve the sisters as before, she herself became a resident at Nazareth Court and Center and later at St. Francis Home where she received loving care until the time of her death. Throughout her life, Sister Donna cherished her life in CSA and her Kansas roots. Her love for life, for her CSA sisters, for her family and friends, for the wheat fields, for the smell of the land and for all creation remained strong as did her special hobbies of cooking, baking, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.&nbsp; Preceding Sister Donna in death were her parents; her brothers Father Andrew Gottschalk, OSB, Vernon, Ivan, Cecil, Philip, Floyd, Stephen; her sister Helen (Ron) Legleiter. Maysville, Missouri….Misty Gay Dunning, age 57 was born August 20, 1965, in Oklahoma the daughter of Leo and Janice (Crews) Mathus and passed away November 4, 2022, at her home in rural Maysville, Missouri.

Misty graduated from Del City High School in Del City, Oklahoma. She met John Dunning Jr. and they were untied in marriage on October 27, 1991, at the Tinker Air Force base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She enjoyed making crafts and paid close attention to detail. Misty instilled in those who knew her the importance of family and God. She was faithful and had a giving spirit; always putting others above herself. She was a very involved wife, mother and grandmother, and would do anything for them as they were the joy of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Kreelyn Dunning; and father-in-law, John Dunning.

Survivors include her husband, John; nine children, Corey Summers,&nbsp;&nbsp;Nicole Dunning, Danielle (Colton) Allen, Travis Dunning, Naomi Pickney, Sophia Dunning, Michael Dunning, Jennifer Dunning, and Matthew Dunning; brothers, Phillip Beauchamp, Michael Beauchamp, Dennis Beauchamp, and Shawn Williams; 17 grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

James A. Hooker died on Friday, November 4th, 2022 in Gig Harbor, WA. He was born in Winston, MO on June 22, 1936 to Allen and Dorothy Hooker.

Jim graduated from Maysville High School, Maysville MO in 1954 and from the University of Central Missouri (previously Central Missouri State) in 1958. On March 9th, 1958, Jim married Alma Lee Fore in the First Christian Church, Maysville, MO. After graduating from college, Jim worked as a CPA &nbsp;for various companies, including Arthur Anderson in Kansas City, MO and The Lambert Company in Chillicothe, MO. His career continued as the Controller at Hanes Co, in Winston-Salem, NC. He finished his career at McCormick &amp; Company in Hunt Valley, MD, where he was the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Jim earned his M.B.A. from Wake Forest University in 1974. Jim &amp; Alma Lee spent their retirement years in Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Bonita Springs, FL, Redmond, WA and lastly Gig Harbor, WA.

Jim is survived by his daughter Julie Hooker (Patricia Albert), Edmonds, WA; son Jeffrey Hooker (Sandra Hooker), Fox Island, WA; grandsons Justin Hooker (Haley Hooker),&nbsp;Meridian, ID; and Austin Hooker, (Julia Troy), Denver, CO, niece Connie Perkins, FL; nephew Mark Hubble, MO and numerous extended family members.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Alma Lee Fore Hooker, his sister Beverly Helton, and his parents Allen and Dorothy Hooker.

Jim was a member of the Gig Harbor United Methodist Church. He loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandsons grow into fine young men. Jim also enjoyed playing tennis and bridge, traveling, and singing in the church choir.  November 2, 2022, at St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.Donna
 Marie was born in La Crosse, Kansas, on May 6, 1940. She was the first 
daughter after eight sons born to Philip Gottschalk and Lidwina Werth 
Gottschalk. Following Donna, three more boys and two girls made the 
family of fourteen complete. Donna spent her childhood keeping up with 
her brothers, doing farm and household chores, and learning very fast 
how to play baseball and football with the best. When Donna was six, the
 family moved to Hays, Kansas, to fulfill her parents’ desire for their 
children to have a Catholic education. In grade school and high school,
 Donna was taught by the Sisters of St. Agnes. From early on, she wanted
 to be just like the sisters. After high school, Donna, still undecided 
about pursuing her desire to be a sister, attended the College of Mount 
St. Scholastica in Atchison, Kansas, taught by the Sisters of St. 
Benedict. In 1959, after her first year of college, Donna made the 
decision to enter St. Agnes Convent. Even though she missed the wheat 
fields of Kansas and the life she shared with her family, her call to 
religious life beckoned her to Wisconsin and CSA. She made her first 
profession of vows as Sister Philip in the Congregation of Sisters of 
St. Agnes on August 15, 1962, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.Sister
 Donna earned a BS in Elementary Education from Marian College, Fond du 
Lac, Wisconsin, in 1964. Sister taught primary grades in Wisconsin, 
Pennsylvania and Kansas for thirty-one years. She loved teaching and 
working with children, and they loved her and filled her heart with many
 happy memories. During her years as an educator, she enriched her 
teaching and religious education skills with several courses and 
seminars at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, and at Silver Lake 
College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin.In 1993, Sister Donna 
retired from teaching. After a year of sabbatical in Rock Haven, 
Missouri, in 1994, she engaged in a variety of ministries including 
serving on the parish team of Sacred Heart Parish in Colby, Kansas, and 
cooking for the residents at St. John’s New Horizons Assisted Living, 
Hays, Kansas. In 1998, Sister Donna returned to Fond du Lac as an 
assistant to the Local Coordinators for the CSA retirement community at 
Nazareth Court and Center. She spent countless hours providing for the 
needs of the sisters, shopping for them, driving, baking, preparing 
special meals and filling the sisters’ days with her caring and 
attentive presence and support. In 2018, a serious illness caused Sister
 Donna to resign her position. Unable to serve the sisters as before, 
she herself became a resident at Nazareth Court and Center and later at 
St. Francis Home where she received loving care until the time of her 
death.Throughout her life, Sister Donna cherished her 
life in CSA and her Kansas roots. Her love for life, for her CSA 
sisters, for her family and friends, for the wheat fields, for the smell
 of the land and for all creation remained strong as did her special 
hobbies of cooking, baking, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.Preceding
 Sister Donna in death were her parents; her brothers Father Andrew 
Gottschalk, OSB, Vernon, Ivan, Cecil, Philip, Floyd, Stephen; her sister

Arthur Dale Marsh, 75, Atchison, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022.

He was born June 14, 1947 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Harry Ralph Marsh Sr. and Mary (Rice) Marsh.

Arthur served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Lois Ann Kerns on June 27, 1969 in Troy, Kansas. They later divorced.

Arthur was a school bus driver for the St. Joseph School District for many years. He also had worked at Hillyard Chemical and Memorial Park Cemetery.

A big fan of CB radios, Arthur went by the handle “Double Nickel” and had many friends over the CB. He also enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Artherina Dale Marsh; sisters, Ruth and Diana Kaye; and brothers, Davey and Harry Ralph Marsh Jr.

Survivors include sons, James Tyre Marsh Sr. and Richard Alan Marsh (Sheri); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivian, Belinda and Susie; and mother of his children, Lois.

Bryce E. Snodderly, 96, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

He was born February 13, 1926 in Bolckow, Missouri to Charles and Opal (Ellis) Snodderly.

Bryce proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He married Illah J. Sawyer on November 25, 1950. They shared 67 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on December 26, 2017.

Bryce was a sales manager for many years, first at St. Joseph Furnace &amp; Supply and then for Century Supply.

He was a longtime member of Wyatt Park Christian Church, where he served as an elder, deacon and chairman of the church board.

In earlier years, Bryce enjoyed traveling on family vacations and later on he liked to just spend time with family, especially outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Illah; his parents; and siblings, Logan Snodderly, Joy Flynn and JoAnn McCormick.

Survivors include sons, Craig (Stacy), Brian (Mary), and James (Beth) Snodderly; grandchildren, Tony Snodderly (Shondra), Mark Snodderly, Jeffrey Snodderly (Ashley), and Sienna Snodderly; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy Snodderly Phillips (Dan); and numerous nieces and nephews.

St. Joseph, Missouri -&nbsp; Ernest Lionel Zeltwanger, 97, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the Carriage Square Nursing Home.

Ernest was born on January 30, 1925, in Troy, Kansas to Albert and Ruby (Lloyd) Zeltwanger.

He was owner and operator, building retaining walls.

Ernest married Edith Briggs on April 8, 1944, in Troy, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 28, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his son, Larry Zeltwanger, parents, brothers, Edwin and Arthur Zeltwanger, sisters, Helen Henry, Norma Briggs and Elaine Walter.

Survivors, daughter, Sharon Johnson (Phillip), 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Sisters, Luella Briggs, Shirley Hagen and Darlene Gawatz. Brother, William Zeltwanger. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty Jean Hardt, 96, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

She was born on July 5, 1926, to Robert and Hazel (Dobson) Willette in Delavan, Minnesota.

Betty received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mercy School of Nursing in Missouri City, Iowa. She served as a nurse at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Chautauqua Guest Homes, and the Salsbury Baptist Home. Even after retirement, she regularly visited the care centers, taking greeting cards to the residents.

She married Charles Hardt on November 25, 1948, in Blue Earth, Minnesota. For years, she assisted Charles in staging the Mr. Science Shows where they got young students excited about science and learning. The show reached students all over the Midwest.

She was a productive member of the Charles City Women’s Club and received the 1997 Woman of the Year award. She was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City, and active in the Rosary Society, Carmalites and her circle.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, writing, and serving others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband of 63 years.

Survivors include children, Charlaine Vitarelli, Pam Kramer (Dave), Mary Kreger (Matt), Kim (Bonnie) Hardt, Mark (Paula) Hardt, John (Carol) Hardt, and Michael (Ann) Hardt; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Ronald Roy Higerd was born March 31, 1939, on his grandparents’ farm 
east of Gem, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Arthur
 and Ruth Leone (Goin) Higerd. He entered his eternal home with Jesus, 
on October 31, 2022, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby KS. 
Ron married his childhood sweetheart, Norma Lee Rikoff, of Colby, on 
August 31, 1958, in Gem, KS. They have 5 children; Myron (Brenda) of 
Park City, KS, Wm Lynn (Tammy) of Colby, KS; Kent (Janet) of Colby, KS; 
Roxan (Scott) Temaat of Haysville, KS and Kaylene (David) Deware, 
Atchison, KS. Ron and Norma are very proud to have 13 grandchildren: 
Adam, William, Benjamin, Karen, Angela, Valerie, Bryan, Priscilla, 
Megan, Aaron, Michael, Hannah, and Cristi. They also have 23 
great-grandchildren. 
Ron was in the National Guard in both Kansas and Colorado from May 1956 
until July 1964. He received his associates degree in Diesel Mechanics 
from Pueblo Junior College and worked for a few years in that field. Ron
 loved working the land and turning over the dirt that God entrusted to 
him and spent the rest of his years farming. 
Ron was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Gem and later 
the First Baptist Church of Colby. Ron loved to sing! He sang in the 
school choir, the college men’s group, the church choir and was the 
church song leader for many years. Even when Alzheimer’s ravaged his 
mind, he could still sing the hymns he loved so much. 
Visitation will be on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 5- 7:00 PM at The 
Gathering Place, 745 Country Club Drive, Colby, KS. His celebration of 
life service will be Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Baalmann 
Mortuary, 190 S Franklin, Colby, KS. Burial will follow at the Gem 
Cemetery, Gem, KS. There will be a time of fellowship with family and 
friends after the burial at the Community Building in Gem.

Ronald Roy Higerd

Robert Reicher Rosenthal, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in St. Joseph, MO, on October 26, 2022.

Born in St. Joseph to Morris L. and Jeannette (Reicher) Rosenthal, Robert was a lifelong St. Joseph resident. He grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. He graduated from Central High School in 1954 and attended University of Missouri where he was a member of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.

Robert was a fixture in the community. He was a past president of both Temple Adath Joseph and Shaare Shalom Cemetery, and a member of Moila Shrine Temple and the Lovers Lane Association. As part of the Missouri Western State University Foundation, he was instrumental in securing the funding for Spratt Stadium. For more than 20 years, he was a trustee of the Hofheimer Trust, an organization responsible for distributing more than $200,000 annually to local charitable organizations.

As a young man, Robert began his career in the family business, Stevens Hat Company. He went on the road, calling on customers and learning the hat business. Many of his customers became friends, and he developed a work ethic that was unmatched. He met Cathie at the factory, and they were married for 57 years. Stevens Hat Company became Stetson Hat Company and, after retiring, he began a new career at Brown Transfer &amp; Storage.

At age three, Robert became fascinated with cars, and that passion never wavered. From a fire engine and ’49 Cadillac to many cars in between, he kept his cars immaculate and usually spent Saturdays washing them in the driveway or winning trophies in area car shows. Attending the Barrett-Jackson auto shows in Phoenix was always a special treat. He proudly participated in the Apple Blossom Parades in his 1931 Lincoln and often drove Missouri Western State University president Dr. Robert Vartabedian in the homecoming parades in his 1962 Mercury convertible. He drove many newlyweds, including Dana and Brian, away from their nuptials. Up until recently, he still enjoyed taking rides in the convertible, sporting a Hemmings baseball cap and Ray-Bans.

Robert took great pride in his lawn. It wasn’t unusual to see him mowing the yard in the tie and dress shirt he wore at work all day. Well into his 80s, he walked along the Parkway and down Ashland Avenue, never missing the opportunity to stop and say hello to a friend. Always a gentleman, he knew how easy it was to brighten someone’s day with a visit, phone call or card. He took extra care to call on friends who were ill or recuperating. He was a very kind man who will be missed by many.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Cathie, in July 2021. Survivors include his daughters Maggie Ross, Platte City, MO, and Dana Campbell (Brian), of the home, grandchildren Brad Staples (Kendal), Zachary Ross, Josh Campbell and Samantha Campbell, great-grandsons Clayton and Reed Staples, brother James B. Rosenthal and many loving family members and friends.

The family will be forever grateful to Robert’s caregivers, Tammy, Kim, Melanie, Helen and Pam. They are selfless, patient, creative and loving. Most important, they helped him know he was never alone. A heartfelt thanks to Sarah, Laurie and Shelli with Mosaic Life Care Hospice.

Robert Reicher Rosenthal, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in St. Joseph, MO, on October 26, 2022.Born in St. Joseph to Morris L. and Jeannette (Reicher) Rosenthal, Robert was a lifelong St. Joseph resident. He grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. He graduated from Central High School in 1954 and attended University of Missouri where he was a member of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.Robert was a fixture in the community. He was a past president of both Temple Adath Joseph and Shaare Shalom Cemetery, and a member of Moila Shrine Temple and the Lovers Lane Association. As part of the Missouri Western State University Foundation, he was instrumental in securing the funding for Spratt Stadium. For more than 20 years, he was a trustee of the Hofheimer Trust, an organization responsible for distributing more than $200,000 annually to local charitable organizations.As a young man, Robert began his career in the family business, Stevens Hat Company. He went on the road, calling on customers and learning the hat business. Many of his customers became friends, and he developed a work ethic that was unmatched. He met Cathie at the factory, and they were married for 57 years. Stevens Hat Company became Stetson Hat Company and, after retiring, he began a new career at Brown Transfer &amp; Storage.At age three, Robert became fascinated with cars, and that passion never wavered. Marvin Leland Wilson, 90, formerly of Everest, KS died on Wed., Oct. 26th at the Carriage Square Living &amp; Rehab Center, St. Joseph, MO. Michael Roy Bassett, 68, Union Star, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

He was born August 3, 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas to Roy and Audra (Kuehn) Bassett.

Michael married Linda Westmoreland on June 8, 1974. They later divorced.

He was a union meatcutter for 50 years and also owned/operated Bassett Roofing for 30 years.

Michael loved hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting – anything outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, going to their games and school events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Cecil Bassett.

Survivors include his children, Brandi Dixon (Matthew) and Jacob Bassett; grandchildren, Reece and Abigail Dixon, and Jaycee Bassett; brother, Ronald Eugene Bassett; significant other, Cathy Deem and her children, Jason Clark (Mawi), Derek Clark, Phillip Wells (Ashley), and Gabriel and Gavin Wells; former wife, Linda Hilsenbeck; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Michael Roy Bassett 1954 - 2022

Maurice C Fothergill, son of James Clarence and Clara Goldie (Kellogg) Fothergill, was born October 12th, 1933 on a farm in Rosendale, MO in Andrew County and passed away October 25, 2022 at Tiffany Heights. He resided in Andrew and Holt County.

Maurice graduated from Rosendale High School, where he was a member of the Missouri State FFA Livestock Judging Team representing Missouri at the American Royal and Chicago International in 1950. He attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, and was a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity and the University Livestock Team. From 1955 to 1957 Maurice served with the Army in the 3rd Armored Division at Fort Knox, KY and Gelnhausen, Germany. He traveled in several countries including England where he visited cousins at Bedale and Askew, towns of origin of his Fothergill ancestors.

From 1958 until 1978 he managed Crane Lumber and Improvement Companies of Savannah, MO; completed his college education at Missouri Western; and farmed near Savannah and Rosendale. Raising his Simmental cattle was a passion of his. In 1978 he was employed by USDA-ASCS. Maurice spent one year as a County Office Specialist doing interior audits in Missouri. In 1979 he was promoted to District Director of District #1. He retired from USDA in 1998.

Maurice served as deacon in the First Christian Church at Rosendale and later the Savannah Christian Church. He was chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee at both. He is presently a member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Mound City. Maurice was a Postmaster and a 50-year member of Savannah Lodge No. 71 AF and AM. He served as a 4-H project leader and advisor to the Savannah Building Trades Classes.

Hobbies included traveling to many countries, woodworking, collecting and restoring antiques and genealogy research.

In 1955 he married Kathleen J. Adkins and they became the parents of two sons, Mark and Curt Fothergill. They later divorced.

On February 28, 1981 he married Linda Jean (Miles) Showalter in Mound City, MO. She survives at their home. She had two daughters Joni Owens and Stacie Scroggins.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Ellen and brother-in-law, Dennis D. McElfish.

He is survived by sons, Curt (Tracy) Fothergill and Mark (Lisa) Fothergill, Savannah; two stepdaughters, Joni (Kevin) Owens, St. Joseph and Stacie Scroggins, Mound City; brother-in-law, Wayne (Tommie) Miles, Lincoln, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
