&nbsp;Russell Leroy Beers 90, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025 at his home. He was born December 31, 1934 in Stewartsville, MO, son of Lorene and Norville "Lee" Beers. Russell graduated from Missouri School for the Deaf in 1955. On June 27, 1970 he married Christina Vaughn in St. Joseph. He was the Co-Pastor and Founder of Signs of Love Church for the Deaf, and served as Associate Pastor alongside his wife Chris at New Life Cathedral in St. Joseph. Russell also worked as a Painting Contractor for many years.

Russell was a loving husband father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His favorite times were spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working in his yard or sitting on his glider. He also enjoyed boating and swimming and vacationing in Branson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Chantelle Beers, and brother, Glenn Beers. Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Christina Beers of the home, sons, Brent (Jackie) Beers and Jeremy Beers, both of St. Joseph, sister, Judy Wiggington of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Lane (Shaylee), Tyler (Chyann), Tayler (Tyler David), Hayley and Piper, great-grandchildren, Leia, Mason, Ryker, Beau, and Bennett.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Rupp Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, Viola Mae Mason.&nbsp;Viola passed away peacefully under the care of her family and the assistance of hospice at home on March &nbsp;13, 2025. Like everything she did in life, she fought a hard battle with humor and grace.&nbsp;

Viola was born on February 5th, 1943 in Bendena, KS to Edward and Pearl Brassfield.She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brothers, George and Ronald Brassfield.

She is survived by her children, Phillip Mason (Leslie) and Pamela Mason. Her siblings, brother, Ed Brassfield (Margaret), and sisters, Mildred Adkins and Vineta Walkup (Ed), and sister-in-law, Dolores Snider (George). Three grandchildren, Chad Mason, Sarah Mason (Nathan,) and Brooke Mason (De’Rion), two great grandchildren, Bentley Davis and Amari Rambo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She lived most of her life in St. Joseph, MO, and worked at Johnson Controls for 28 years, where she participated in several memorabilia antics.

After retiring in 2005, she enjoyed traveling mostly out west to visit family. She loved her dog, Miss Roni, playing bingo, working on puzzles, and giving hell to all of her family and friends on a daily basis. She was our ornery, fun loving, warm hearted, always ready for a good laugh Granny. She loved her family and we will miss her very much!

The family will receive visitors on Monday, March 17th, 2025 from 5-7 pm at Rupp Funeral Home in St. Joseph, MO. &nbsp;A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at her final resting place in Moray Cemetery, Moray, Kansas.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Charles "Chuck" Eugene Smith, 58, of Dearborn, Missouri passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at his home in Dearborn.

He was born November 6, 1966 in Joplin, MO, son of Betty and Charles Smith. Chuck worked for many years as a Painting Contractor, mostly with Scott Gann Construction. He enjoyed sports, especially boxing, the KC Chiefs and shooting guns and his best times were spent being with his family.

Chuck was preceded in death by father, Charles L. Smith, mother, Betty Wininger. Survivors include children, Corey (Samantha) Griswold of Madison, NE, Larissa Smith (Roy Zimmer) of Dearborn, MO, Ashley (Brycen) Larison of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Gavin, Jaidence, Shane, Noah and Bella, brothers, Donnie and Steve Smith, both of Joplin, MO.

Betty Jane (Myers) Harris, 96, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

She was born March 12, 1929 to William Marvin and Eva Irene (Allison) Myers of St. Joseph.

Betty attended Hyde grade school and graduated from Benton High School. She was recipient of the Jr. Art Medal, attendant to the football queen three years, inducted into the National Honor Society in her Junior year, a member of the Polyhymnia Literary Society and Benton's candidate for St. Joe Relays in her Senior year. She helped plan and decorate for her class reunions every five years and kept in touch with many classmates years after graduation.

Betty married Jerry Ronald Acord in 1949 and they had five children. Always a homemaker, she also worked at home as a colorist and negative retoucher for Bray and Kordel Photography Studios. She and Jerry were married twenty-five years and after they parted, she went on to marry Garvin Preston “Gary” Filbert, head basketball coach of Missouri Weston State College. She was active in the Faculty Wives and served as president one year. She worked as a buyer-clerk for Hirsch's Department store. They were married nine years.

In 1984, Betty's daughter convinced her to move to San Diego, California. She loved everything about it and took her a week to call it home. She worked as a buyer-clerk for The Scott's of La Jolla and then manager of the Patrician senior apartments in upper La Jolla. She belonged to a club sponsored by the La Jolla Presbyterian church for senior singles called the Dolphins. They had a membership of 300 from the San Diego area and she became activity director. Dancing was her passion and when an Argentine dance group came to San Diego to perform, she was able through her dance class to meet the group and get a three-minute dance. She made many friends with many stories, two of which she kept in contact with to the end.

Betty flew back to St. Joe and to Texas to visit children and friends many times. On her 60th Birthday her children sent her to Cancun.

In the fall of 1989, she met Warren Harris and discovered they were both from St Joe. They knew many of the same people and places. They married in 1991 and honeymooned in Cabo San Lucas. They bought a Yorkie and then a condo in Oceanside, California. They shared a love of good music, walks on the beach, fine food and spirits. Betty was a member of two writing groups, and a drama group. Warren had retired but went back to work only to have a quadruple bypass. Being retired and rising California prices motivated them to move to Independence, Missouri, where she discovered she had operate-able colon cancer. In 2002, they went on a cruise and revisited Cabo before they moved to St. Joe. In 2009, Betty lost her daughter Jody to cancer and Jody's passions became hers -- The Friends of The Animal Shelter and Loess Bluffs.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her sister, Ruth Dandliker; brother, William Myers; and daughter, Jody Leigh Acord; two sons-in-law, Brad Osborn and Pat Sheehan.

Survivors are daughters, Janie Osborn of Kansas City, Missouri, Jerri Walters of La Jolla, California, Julie Sheehan of Frisco, Texas; son, Edward Curtis Acord (Sandy) of St. Joe; 7 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; 3 step-granddaughters; 8 great-granddaughters and 12 great-grandsons; 4 nieces; 4 nephews; and Warren's two daughters and families; and sister, Shirley Simpson, St. Joe.

Throughout her years, Diana was a consummate working professional tending to management roles with several esteemed local businesses.

Diana loved working outdoors, cooking with friends and family, and rarely left home without her dogs in tow. She will be remembered for her love of koalas, her sharp wit, her big smile, and her legendary hugs and kisses.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Early and Shirley Belcher and brother, Larry Belcher.

Sister Frances Yarc, OSB, 97, a Benedictine sister of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kans., died Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the monastery. The vigil service will be Thursday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m. in the monastery chapel, and the Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated there Friday, March 28, at 10:30 a.m.

Sister Frances Yarc was born in Kansas City, Kan., on Dec. 30, 1927, to John and Frances Safer Yarc, the second oldest of five children. She attended Ward High School there for a year and a half before leaving to care for her mother. She entered the Mount community in 1946 and later earned a B.S. in education from Mount St. Scholastica College. She was a teacher for 22 years in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska. After receiving L.P.N. training, she served at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., and in the Mount infirmary. She earned her R.N. degree in 1979 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka and was a nursing supervisor in the Mount infirmary for several years. She later did home health care and care of the aged until she retired in 2000. Sister Frances continued to help with hospitality to guests at the monastery for some time after that. She enjoyed painting and displayed her oil paintings at local art fairs where she won several awards.

She lived most of her life in St. Joseph, MO and worked at Johnson Controls for 28 years where she participated in several memorabilia antics.

After retiring in 2005, she enjoyed traveling mostly out west to visit family. She loved her dog, Miss Roni, playing bingo, working on puzzles and giving hell to all of her family and friends on a daily basis. She was our ornery, fun loving, warm hearted, always ready for a good laugh granny. She loved her family and we will miss her very much!

The family will receive visitors on Monday, March 17th, 2025 from 5-7 pm at Rupp Funeral home in St. Joseph, MO. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at her final resting place in Moray Cemetery, Moray, Kansas.&nbsp;

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Viola Mae Mason.&nbsp;Viola passed away peacefully under the care of her family and the assistance of hospice at home on March &nbsp;13, 2025. Like everything she did in life, she fought a hard battle with humor and grace.&nbsp;Viola was born on February 5th, 1943 in Bendena, KS to Edward and Pearl Brassfield.She is preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers, George and Ronald Brassfield.She is survived by her children, Phillip Mason (Leslie) and Pamela Mason. Her siblings, brother, Ed Brassfield (Margaret), and sisters, Mildred Adkins and Vineta Walkup (Ed), sister-in-law Dolores Snider (George). Ruby Katherine (Kathy) Kobett, 89, Saint Joseph, MO passed away peacefully March 12, 2025. A private graveside service will be held 11 am, Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Stewartsville, MO, under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.&nbsp;

Kathy was born May 29, 1935, in King City, Missouri and graduated from Clarksdale High School in the Class of 1953.

She worked at Beattie’s grocery where she met Jim Kobett. Kathy and Jim were married on October 21, 1955. They celebrated sixty-two years of marriage.&nbsp;

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Kathy loved spending time with and doting on all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was seen at many sporting and school events throughout the years cheering on her children and grandchildren.&nbsp;

Kathy was also known for her love of animals and had a special fondness for dogs and cats.&nbsp;

Kathy is preceded in death by husband, Jim Kobett. She is survived by son, Jim Kobett, daughter-in-law, Kimberly, St. Joseph, MO; daughter, Jane Smith (Terry), Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Alicia, Allison, Alexis, Kori and Kobe; and nine great-grandchildren.

Cheryl was born on March 14, 1959, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of James and Betty (Hill) Cline. She married Sam Hitchens on January 10, 1984, and he survives at home. She was a member of Faith Valley Church of God and had a deep love for her lord. She enjoyed reading the bible, listening to Christian music, painting ceramics, Omaha Zoo, snow babies, bird watching, and caring for her flowers and plants. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, sons, Rick Hitchens, Brian (Amanda) Hitchens, daughters, Diane (Bob) Grippin, Cindy (Jeremiah) Sanders, fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren with two on the way, brothers, Tom (Connie) Cline, Dan Cline, Mike (Betty) Cline, Paul (Tracy) Cline, and sister-in-laws, Judy Cline and Diane Cline. He was a former member of the Odd Fellows, and enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling and visiting family.

He was married to Martha Fae Vessar on January 19th, 1963, in Falls City, NE. She survives of the home in Bella Vista, AR. Additional survivors include a son Aaron B. (Kristen) Card, Jr, Pea Ridge, AR, a daughter Janet (Max) Klamm, Horton, KS, a brother Fred Card, Holton, KS and a sister, Mae Froelich, Chippewa Falls, WI, nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Eileen Glenette Rethemeyer 58, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO. She was born November 21, 1966 in St. Joseph, Missouri, daughter of the late Patricia &amp; Gene Rethemeyer. 

She graduated from Central High School, and obtained an Associates Degree from Vatterott College. She worked as a loan analyst. Eileen enjoyed painting and building birdhouses, collecting bobble heads, cooking, going to the boat, spending time with her grandchildren, and nagging Chuck. She was a fiery red head, who enjoyed listening to her favorite bands Meatloaf and Prince. She loved her pets, especially her little terrier Gertie. She had many friends who will miss her dearly. 

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Alicia Rethemeyer. 

She is survived by daughter, Raeleen Owens (Jacob Kimler) of St. Joseph, MO, eight grandchildren: Memphis, Riley, Daisy, and Cade Owens, Breanna, Dominic, Oliver Kimler, and Ayden Liechti, brothers, Mark (Vicki) Rethemeyer of Plantation, FL, Steven (Laura) Rethemeyer of Ridgefield, WA, sister, Gina (Rick) Gilbert of Belton, TX, niece, Serenity (Ed) Sternberg of St. Joseph, MO, great niece and nephews, Quinlan, Qearnyn, and Quaid Yates, as well as her significant other, Chuck Drowns of the home. 

The family will receive family and friends at Fruedenthal Home Health, 2425 N. Woodbine Road, St. Joseph, MO, from 1:00-2:00 with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 Sunday, March 16, 2025. She married Gary Lewis on September 9, 1957 in Savannah, MO. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2024.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing garments and draperies.

Nancy Jane (Courtney) Holmes passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025 in St. Joseph MO. Nancy was born in Kirksville, MO to Harvey and Mable (Bush) Courtney, March 5, 1948. Nancy Graduated from Lafayette High School in 1966. Nancy held the position of Treasurer and Secretary for the alumni of the class of 1966. She held this position for many years and took great pride in her duties to support her fellow classmates.

Nancy maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation of beauty, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful and varied experiences.

Nancy's life can best be encapsulated by five "F" words: Family, Friends, Flowers, Food and Fun. In her 77 years here with us she experienced an abundance of each. Nancy always knew she wanted to someday raise a family of her own. She met Stephen Holmes on the bus in 1964, while attending Lafayette high school. She and Stephen knew they had met the person with whom they would build a family with. Married April 26 of 1968, Nancy and Stephen maintained a loving and supportive marriage of almost 57 years. Together they raised two children, Greg Holmes and David Holmes, and regularly engaged with their large extended family. Eventually Nancy and Stephen welcomed Greg &amp; David’s spouses, Trisha and Christyl Holmes into their family.

Throughout this time, Nancy excelled in creating a beautiful and gracious home. The crowning glory for Nancy was the arrival of grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Nancy delighted in everything about her new role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. She made it a point to be as engaged as possible with her grandchildren. Nancy was thrilled to teach her grandchildren the art of making homemade noodles. Nancy’s other crowning glory was her scrapbooks. The love she shared in creating all those pages of memories lives on for her family and friends to cherish.

Nancy adored her friendships, developing them at each stage of her life, with them lasting the remainder of her lifetime. She was known not just for enjoying her friendships but for being a good friend as well.

Nancy was a gem of a person who appreciated all that life gave her.

We find comfort in knowing that Nancy lives on through the lessons she taught us, the love she shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

Nancy was preceded in death by parents Harvey and Mable (Bush) Courtney, brother Ivan Courtney. Nancy is survived by her husband Stephen Holmes, children Greg (Tricia), David (Christyl) Holmes, 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss her dearly.

Nancy Jane (Courtney) Holmes passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025 in St. Joseph MO. Nancy was born in Kirksville, MO to Harvey and Mable (Bush) Courtney, March 5, 1948. Nancy Graduated from Lafayette High School in 1966. Nancy held the position of Treasurer and Secretary for the alumni of the class of 1966. She held this position for many years and took great pride in her duties to support her fellow classmates.Nancy maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation of beauty, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful and varied experiences.Nancy's life can best be encapsulated by five "F" words: Family, Friends, Flowers, Food and Fun. In her 77 years here with us she experienced an abundance of each. Nancy always knew she wanted to someday raise a family of her own. She met Stephen Holmes on the bus in 1964, while attending Lafayette high school. She and Stephen knew they had met the person with whom they would build a family with. Married April 26 of 1968, Nancy and Stephen maintained a loving and supportive marriage of almost 57 years. Together they raised two children, Greg Holmes and David Holmes, and regularly engaged with their large extended family. Mary Lou Lingo, 94, of rural Plattsburg, MO passed away, March 11, 2025.

She was born on August 30, 1930 to Charles Henry and Georgia Gladys (Perkins) Schuster near Starfield, MO where she grew up. Mary Lou graduated from Plattsburg High School.

On June 14, 1952 she was united in marriage to Claron Lingo. After their marriage they lived in rural Plattsburg where they made their home. Her husband, Claron, preceded her in death on November 19, 2018.

She was a member of the Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church.

Mary Lou was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Helen Sloan, nephew, Charles Sloan and great-nephew Jason Frazier.

Mary Lou is survived by her nieces and nephews, Frankie Frazier and husband Randy, Randy Sloan and wife Cindy, and Kimberly Nelson; several great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Carl Frederick O’Callaghan, 61 of Savannah, MO passed away Monday, March 10, 2025 at his home in Savannah. He was born June 22, 1963 to James O'Callaghan Jr. and Jane Speer. He married Susan Brown in Savannah MO on February 16, 1990 and she survives of the home.

Carl enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He could also be found on Saturdays playing pool in a pool league for many years. He spent many deer seasons processing venison for local hunters. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs, wife, grandkids and his many friends. He could often be found looking for worms after the rain and fishing at midnight.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, April O'Callaghan and Paige O'Callaghan both of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Hannah, Moriah, Reegen, Malia, Zain, Kashus, and Joshua Jr; and six half-sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and some very close friends.

Visitation and family receiving hours will be 5:00pm-7:00pm Thursday March 13, 2025 at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah, MO. Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday March 14, 2025 at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Savannah Cemetery, Savannah, MO.

Crystal Rodriguez, 42, Faucett, Missouri, left this life Sunday, March 9, 2025.

She was born September 15, 1982 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Robert “Bob” and Kimberly (Baker) Nicholson. Crystal grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Baptist Temple School.

She then earned an associate’s degree at Heartland Baptist Bible College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she met Andrew Rodriguez. The couple were united in marriage on June 5, 2004.

After Andrew finished his degree, the couple moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to minister at a church there. They returned to the St. Joseph area in 2016, where Crystal served alongside Andrew on the staff at Riverside Baptist Church for the last seven years. She loved serving the Lord through the church youth group.

Crystal absolutely loved being a mom and homeschooling her children. She also enjoyed playing the piano at home and at church, and was a huge fan of Highland cattle.

She was the bright star of the family, leaving a legacy of love, faith, strength, and precious memories for her family to cherish.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Milton and Geraldine Baker, and Robert and Leatha Nicholson.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 21 years, Andrew; children, Emilie, Lydia, Isabella, Micah, and Levi Rodriguez; parents, Bob and Kim Nicholson; brother, Chuck Nicholson (Amy); in-laws, Patrick and Nora Rodriguez; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Larry E. Puckett, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025.

He was born May 21, 1938 in Bolckow, Missouri to Sylvester and Lena (Mozingo) Puckett.

Enlisting at age 17, Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years.

He married Phyllis Smith on April 9. 1960. She survives of the home.

Larry was a delivery driver for Norton Ice Cream, then owned and operated several service stations. Later on, he was service manager at Miller Buick before going to work at Mead Paper, where he was a mechanic for 25 years.

Larry loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him, especially his cousin Charles Puckett of Maryville, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Phyllis; children, Steven Puckett (Sheila), Kimberlin Berggren (Steve), and John Puckett; grandchildren, Steve, Jeffery, Nikki, Bryan, Jordan, and Courtney; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Jerry, Hubert, Raymond, Connie, and Joyce; several other extended family members and friends.
