Alice Ann Morgan passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023, in her home in Savannah MO, surrounded by family and friends. Alice was born to Horace and Jenny Perry on January 12, 1936 in Andrew County, MO. She moved to Denver Colorado and married Charles Perry Morgan on August 29, 1957.

Alice spent the early years in Denver as a devoted wife and mother, raising three children and fostering countless others. She was involved in church, boy scouts and campfire girls, home room mom, Sunday school teacher and eventually a grandmother and Great Grandmother. In 1989 Charles retired, and they were able to fulfill their dream to travel. A few years ago she traveled to Antarctica, completing her wish to “walk on every continent.” They remained full-time RVer’s for many years, traveling throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico. They eventually moved to Savannah, and continued traveling, often working as campground hosts and volunteering along the way.

Survivors include her husband Charles Morgan, Children Rebecca and Perry, Grandchildren Halley, Kaleb, Ariel, Brandon and Chloe, Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Joy Morgan Wardlow and sister Marth Burks. In leu of flowers, donations can be made to the Savannah Senior Center in her name. &nbsp;

Tom Pankiewicz, 75, of St. Joseph, MO passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023 at his home with his wife by his side.&nbsp;

Tom was born on October 8, 1947 to Francis and Josephine (Klein) Pankiewicz. He attended St. Peter and Paul grade school where he was also an active server at the church. He went on to attend and graduate from Christian Brothers High School. After high school, Tom attended St. Joseph Junior College and later graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a teaching degree in English.&nbsp;

Tom’s teaching career began at Bishop O’Hara High School in Kansas City, MO. At this time he began working towards his masters degree in English Education at UMKC. He returned to St. Joseph and began teaching English at Benton High School.&nbsp;

During his time at Benton, Tom taught hundreds of students, coached cross country, and most importantly, met the love of his life, a fellow teacher just down the hall, Cathy Gallagher.&nbsp;

Tom and Cathy’s whirlwind courtship took them on a Northwest Alumni trip to Switzerland in 1976. On Chapel Bridge over the River Reuss, Tom proposed. One year later on June 11, 1977, Tom and Cathy married at the Co-Cathedral in St. Joseph. Soon after, they became active members in what would become their permanent parish home, St. Francis Xavier. There Tom served as a lector, parish council member and president, and was one of the first covenanted members of the Companions of the Precious Blood.&nbsp;

Tom and Cathy were blessed with 5 children: Julia (1978), James (1980), Mary (1985), Melanie (1989), and Christopher (1991). Their home was not only full of children. Tom’s kind and gentle heart could never say no to the endless stream of needy creatures he and Cathy would bring home.&nbsp;

After spending 30+ years at Benton, Tom retired and moved to Missouri Western State University where he continued to teach English for the next decade.&nbsp;

One of Tom’s many passions was traveling. According to one of Tom’s many journal entries, his idea of happiness was being lost in Europe on a cobblestone street with his wife. Over the years their travels took them to numerous countries across Europe.&nbsp;

Tom was an avid reader, writer, and scholar. He surrounded himself in his home with books, journals, and items that held memories close to his heart. Tom enjoyed walking down Ashland pondering the day’s questions- both big and small.&nbsp;

Tom’s other big passion was the Prairie Lands Writing Project. He was a mentor to writing teachers all over the region. Throughout his years, he inspired educators by transforming their teaching and encouraging a new approach to creative writing in the classroom. His love of writing was contagious.&nbsp;

His retirement brought him the joy of grandchildren and allowed him the time to serve others through the Open Door Food Kitchen and the House of Bread.&nbsp;

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Josephine, as well as twin brothers, John and Joseph.&nbsp;

Tom is survived by his wife, Cathy, his children, Julia (Emma), James, Mary (Ryan), Melanie (Kyle), Christopher (Kelsey), his siblings, Margaret (Robert), Michael (Teresa), Theodore, and Marilyn, and his grandchildren, Savannah, Sofia, Felix, Patrick, and Louisa.&nbsp;

A visitation will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023 at St. Francis Xavier Church. A rosary will be said at 5:30 with a visitation to follow from 6:00-8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier is scheduled for Friday, June 23, 2023 at 10:00 am.&nbsp;

Michael Curtis Moore died June 16, 2023 peacefully at home in St Joseph, MO, surrounded by family.

Born September 23, 1946 in Newbourne North Carolina, Raised in Savannah MO, Graduated from Savannah R-3.

Married Joan Kempa in 1965, had 3 children during that marriage, Rhonda, Steve, and Jeff. They later divorced, April 1, 1984. Mike met his best friend and Soulmate Tanya, and they married June 15, 1996. They were blessed with 39 years together, married for 27 of those years.

Mike worked for Volkswagen, Polskys, and the Saint Joseph Police Department for 41 years, starting off as a patrolman and then working his way to Detective and then retiring as a Municipal Court Bailiff for Judge Boeh.

Mike enjoyed camping, fishing, taking vacations, waxing his cars, sitting on the porch with his dog (favorite child)

Delilah, and watching the birds and squirrels, spending time with his family and friends, watching the Chiefs play with Tanya and friends, going to Rosecrans to help Ralph work on airplanes, hoping to obtain his pilot’s license one day, going to airshows with his grandson Aaron, playing Keno at the casino with Tanya, and going to the dirt track to watch the races.

Mike could sit and watch westerns all day long, especially anything with John Wayne. Mike was a big jokester who loved to laugh and make others laugh. Mike loved to tinker in his garage and could work on almost everything. He really was a jack of all trades.

Preceded: both parents, Robert and Dorothy, an infant brother; nephew, Ryan Newcomer and a granddaughter, Michaela Moore

Survivors: wife; siblings Steve (Rita,) Moore, Doug (Verena) Moore, Toni Newcomer.

Jerry D. Hall, “J.D.”, 68, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away surrounded by family on Friday, June 16, 2023, at a nursing facility.

He was born February 9, 1957 to Howard H. “Jimmy” and Florine Hall in Fairfax, Missouri.

J.D. attended Fairfax Schools and graduated in 1975. He adored his classmates and enjoyed visiting with them every year when he attended the Fairfax Fair.

He joined the United States Army in 1984 and served as a Military Police Officer for four years. He received the Army Commendation Metal along with other accolades and retired as a Corporal.

After leaving the military, J.D. began a long career as a truck driver. He worked for 3D Trucking for the last two decades and became close friends with the owners, whom were like family to him.

He married Janet (McIntosh) Enriquez in 1979. The couple later divorced but maintained a great friendship throughout their lives.

J.D. was an avid collector. He loved his watches, knives, guns and CB radios. He could always be seen adorning gold necklaces, a spectacular watch and a ring on each finger.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially for dinners and movie nights.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Florine, and a brother, Durall Hall.

Survivors include his children, Jennifer Milbourne (Bob) of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Jared Hall of Oceanside, California; grandchildren, Ashton Stephenson, Payton Hall, and Hawke Milbourne; brothers, Dwayne Hall (Connie) of Altus, Oklahoma, and Leland Hall (Andrea)of Rolla, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Westboro, Missouri. A celebration of life and fellowship will be held after the funeral at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax.

Hubert E. Luke, 90, of Stanberry, MO passed away Friday, June 16, 2023 at an Albany, MO hospital.

He was born on June 19, 1932, on the family farm in Clyde, Missouri the son of Alphonse G. and Regina C. (Untiedt) Luke.

On June 25, 1955, he married Beatrice Schwebach at the Immaculate Conception Basilica, Conception, MO. She survives of the home.

Hubert served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Raymond Sager Post #260 of Stanberry, MO. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Stanberry #4388 and St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Stanberry. He served on the MFA Board and the Stanberry RII School Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen Luke; brothers, Roger and Arthur Luke and great granddaughters, Josephine and Kayli Luke

Thomas Vaughn George, 46, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023, comfortably in his home with his wife Amanda by his side.

He was born January 8, 1977 in St. Joseph to Curtis and Kathleen (Turner) George.

Thomas served in the U.S. Army as a Communications Specialist at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He later was a mechanic for Clarios.

His favorite things in life were riding motorcycles, spending time with family and friends drinking beer by the fire, and the 4th of July was by far his favorite holiday.

He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis; and son, Matthew George.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda; children, Nichole Anderson and Michael George; five stepchildren; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; mother, Kathleen George; brother, William Louis George; numerous other extended family members and friends.

Chris was born April 13, 1990 in Leavenworth, KS to Penny (Vandruff-Galey) Wagner and Eugene Galey. He was a truck driver and tech. He loved his cars and motorcycles, spending time with his daughter and nephew, hanging out with family and friends and helping those in need.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jackie and Juanita Vandruff, Sr, his paternal grandparents, Charles Galey, and Josophine Kern, Melvin and Virginia Wagner and his sister-in-law, Poly Galey-Henry. 

He is survived by his daughter Alexia Galey (Independence, Ks), parents Bruce and Penny Wagner (Bonner Springs, KS), Eugene Galey (Parsons, TN), his siblings William Galey (Caney, KS), Melissa Kelly (Raymore, Mo), Michael Wagner (Warrensburg, Mo), and 8 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie E. Davis, and son, Jamie Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia “Jeanie” Davis, daughter, Shannin G. Hudson (Tommy); brother, Bob Davis; grandchildren, Dalen, Bayden, Fabian and Saben Hudson; and great-granddaughter, Leia Hudson. Ernie had 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and two sisters, Betty and Patsy.

Frances D. Seat, a loving and kind-hearted woman, passed away on June 14, 2023, at the age of 88. She was born on August 15, 1934, in St. Joseph, MO, to J.B. and Inez J. (Stanton) Seat. Frances was preceded in death by her parents and her uncle, Don Seat. She is survived by her best friend, Florence Ramsey, and several cousins.

Frances graduated from Albany High School before earning her degree at Northwest Missouri State University. She dedicated her career to helping others. Frances began her professional journey at Whitaker Cable Corporation in the accounting department before joining the Division of Family Services. For 22 years, Frances served as a supervisor until her retirement in 1990.

Frances was a devout member of the Huffman Memorial Methodist Church and Guy Hardin Sunday School, where she found solace and spiritual support. Her faith and strong sense of community led her to become an active participant in numerous groups and associations. Frances was a proud member of the United Methodist Women, Mary Ruth Circle, Plus 55 Club, Association of Missouri State Retired Employees (serving as Secretary &amp; Treasurer), Y-Women's of YWCA, Mental Health Association, American Business Women's Group, and Christian Business and Professional Women's Club.

Frances Seat will be deeply missed by her beloved community and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Linda Kay Older Swope, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Born on July 27, 1948, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Linda was a lifelong resident of the city and touched the lives of many with her kindness and wisdom.

Throughout her life, Linda was dedicated to her work and her community. She began her career as a preschool head-start teacher, where she nurtured and inspired countless young minds. Later, she worked as a manager at McDonald's and a cashier at Walmart, always greeting customers with a warm smile and a kind word. Linda eventually retired from her clerical position with American Airlines.

Linda was an active member of the North Church of God in St. Joseph, Missouri. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found great comfort and joy in her church community.

In her free time, Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was especially proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Linda's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and faith. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Guy Ellsworth and Flora Agnes (Powell) Lemaster; her first husband, Earl Dean Swope; her second husband, Mike Older; her grandson, Dylan; two brothers; and four sisters.

He was born on October 20, 1957, to Paul Chester and Edith Lorene (Rash) Olson in Smithville. Mike graduated from Oak Park High School in Kansas City, MO. Michael then served his country in the United State Marine Corps.

On September 30, 1989, he was united in marriage to Rita Ann Bailey. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City, MO and in 2004 they moved to Smithville where they made their home.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Mike worked as a machinist for several local companies including Sealright and TWA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Mike was a craftsman working with anything from leather to wood to steel. He was very passionate about guns, God and country. Above all loved being a husband, dad, grandpa, son, brother, uncle and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father Paul Olson.

Mike is survived by his wife Rita Olson; children Sarah Olson, Dakota Olson, Shelby Olson and Amelia Olson; grandchildren Kyle, Taylor, and Landyon; mother Lorene Olson; brothers Larry Olson and David (Beth) Olson; sisters Paula (Bill) Chriseson, Linda, Donna (Eddie) Lane, and Karen Olson; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.&nbsp;

Robert “Bob” Lea Cloves 76, formerly of Atchison, KS, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Lamoni Specialty Care, Lamoni, IA. It was said he was the best parts man around, loved to work on cars, go fishing, play cards and pool, there wasn’t a pool hall he didn’t know and wasn’t known at. Robert was member of the First Baptist Church, Atchison, KS. Bob married Connie Sue Holthusen, they later divorced. He married Deanna Chase Mullins they later divorced. Survivors include his daughter, Lori and Marty Young, Blythedale, MO, a brother Dennis Dean Cloves, Overland Park, KS, a granddaughter, Ashly Paige Young, two great grandchildren, Emmett Wayne Miller, Presley Raylynn Miller. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1964. Bob worked at Ayers Auto Part and then Napa for twenty years. It was said he was the best parts man around, loved to work on cars, go fishing, play cards and pool, there wasn’t a pool hall he didn’t know and wasn’t known at. Robert was member of the First Baptist Church, Atchison, KS. Bob married Connie Sue Holthusen, they later divorced. He married Deanna Chase Mullins they later divorced. Survivors include his daughter, Lori and Marty Young, Blythedale, MO, a brother Dennis Dean Cloves, Overland Park, KS, a granddaughter, Ashly Paige Young, two great grandchildren, Emmett Wayne Miller, Presley Raylynn Miller. Roger A. Brumbaugh, 69, of St Joseph, MO passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 peacefully at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph after a lengthy illness. He was born August 26, 1953 in Wolf Lake, IN, son of Pauline (Schwalm) and Raymond Brumbaugh. 

Roger spent most of his life in Indiana and worked as a Machinist, prior to moving to St. Joseph in 2012. He was an avid fan of Nascar and the Indianapolis Colts. 

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and in-laws, Richard (Elaine) Brumbaugh, Barb (Bob)Hursey, Janeann (Bill) Seitzinger, Sandy (Tom) Anderson, and Karen (Dale) Booth, and his fur babies, Arthur, Bronson, Shadow, Murphy and Keith, all who he loved very much. 

Survivors include his companion of 20 years, Toni Lewis of St. Joseph, children, Gerin Brumbaugh of So. Whitley, IN, Kelly (Dave) Rockinbaugh of Albion, IN, and Tammi (Ryan) Strain of Kendallville, IN, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his fur babies, Rebel and Max. 

Mr. Brumbaugh has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Per Roger's wishes, there will be no services. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Indiana.

Phyllis was born on May 2, 1950, to Robert A. and Hazel (Coulter) Wilson.

Phyllis has an in-home childcare, “Mamaw’s House of Kids” for many years. She retired from JC Penney.

Phyllis has a passion for live country music by her friends and dancing. She enjoyed her travel adventures, motorcycle trips, garage sales and flea markets with loved ones.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Robert A. and Hazel; brothers, Bob, Bill, and Ron; nephew, Mike Wilson; former husband, Dennis Phelan; longtime friends/brothers, Kenny Ulmer and Russell Larabee.

Survivors include her daughter, Marcie Phelan Hundley, two other children; one grandson, five granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren, her “bonus” daughter/niece, Tammy Jordan; “bonus” grandson, Cody Kelly, and her longtime dear faithful friends.

Tracy L. (Soltys) Clark, 56, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023, surrounded by family. She fought hard against cancer for years, right up to the very end.

She was born September 6, 1966 in St. Joseph to Ronnie and Dixie (Fetty) Soltys. Tracy graduated from Benton High School, Class of 1984.

Tracy was office manager at Pinnacle Electric for 23 years.

She expressed her creativity with crafts, making T-shirts and jewelry, among many other items, for friends and family.

Tracy loved her family and they meant the world to her. She loved being with them for holidays, especially at Christmas. She was an amazing cook and leaves wonderful memories of favorite dishes.

While known for being ornery and feisty, Tracy was also a very spiritual person who helped guide her family. Her strength during her cancer fight was an inspiration to all.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ronnie Soltys; her stepfather, Don Furr; and brother-in-law, Lee Grooms.

Survivors include her sons, Brandon Reel (Kaylee Morton), and Tyson Clark; granddaughter, Azara Knight; mother, Dixie Furr; stepmother, Addie Greenwell; siblings, Shelly Grooms, Joy Davies (Gary), Darrell Furr (Shanda), and Tim Weatherd; numerous other extended family members and friends; and her beloved dog, Boomer.

Tracy L. (Soltys) Clark 1966 - 2023

Alice Marie Ross, 95, beloved wife of John Adam Ross, Jr., mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, passed away with hospice care on June 13, 2023, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.

She was born on January 17, 1928, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Emmett and Leila Parrott. Alice graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph in 1945. After graduating, Alice, her two brothers and her parents moved to Michigan where she also attended college for musicians.

In 1947, Alice married her high school sweetheart John Ross, Jr. They were happily married for 70 years. John passed away on October 26, 2017. They lived in St. Joseph for many years where they raised their three children. In the 1980’s they moved to Wichita, Kansas for John’s career. When John retired, they traveled for five years and eventually settled in Chama, New Mexico for over 20 years. In 2016, they moved to Kansas City, to be closer to family.

Alice and John had many traveling adventures together including Italy, Greece, France, Egypt and all across the United States. They brought back the most amazing stories, photos, and mementos to share with and entertain the family.

In addition to being a wife, mother of three, and eventually a grandmother of many grandchildren, Alice was an accomplished musician and singer. She was part of the quartet at St. Joseph’s First Christian Church as a soprano. She dearly loved music, singing, playing the piano, pipe organs, and eventually the harp that John built for her when she and John were in their young 80’s. Alice also sang at funerals, weddings, and for other churches over the years.

She belonged to the Fortnightly Club in the early years of her musical career. One of her recent passions was listening to the majestic music from pipe organs and the talented musicians who played them at Country Club Christian Church in Kansas City. To know Alice was to hear her sing and hear her music.

Alice also created the most exquisite needlework. She began knitting at a very young age and over the many years went on to knit beautiful sweaters for the family as well as for herself. She specialized in Celtic cable knit sweaters. She also knit the tiniest, most beautiful doll clothes as well. Later in life she began knitting blankets for the Linus project. She loved to knit.

Over the many years, she also created many beautiful hand-crafted quilts, hand-appliqued bedspreads, clothes, curtains and more. Her exquisite heirloom quilts are treasured by her family. She also embroidered beautifully and made the most precious hand-smocked dresses. Alice was a creative genius, carrying on her beloved father Emmett’s creative legacy.

Alice is survived by her three children: Kathy, Mike (Vicki), and Lisa; sister-in-laws, Jane and Judy; nine grandchildren; and a growing number of great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date in the chapel at Country Club Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Her final resting place will be with John in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri.
