Phyllis Jamison, 88, of Platte City, MO passed away on September 24, 2023.

She was born on December 16, 1934 to John Clifford and Lucille Abby (Walker) Martin in Atchison, KS. Phyllis grew up in the Atchison area where she attended school.

On June 17, 1960 she was united in marriage to George A. Jamison. After their they lived in the Platte City area where they made their home.

Phyllis worked for Hallmark Cards for 25 years. She loved gardening, fishing, and going to the Casino.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Marilyn Kay Gibson; granddaughter, Kelli Knighton; grandsons, Greg Jamison and Justin Heide; and son-in-law, Jon Hines.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, George; children, Vickie (Ron) Green, Lynn (Chris) Sylva, Greg Jamison, Kevin (Kelly) Jamison, Julie Hines, and Shelly (Craig) Arnold; grandchildren, Carrie Weimer, Trey Green, Jerry Rogers, Cory Jamison, Zach Jamison, Kyle Knighton, Kole Knighton, Trent Arnold and Tyler Arnold; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Private Family Graveside Services will be held at Platte City Cemetery in Platte City.

Billy A. Edwards, 85, of Smithville, MO, formerly of Dearborn, MO passed away September 21, 2023.

He was born on September 12, 1938, to Ralph and Audrey (Boydston) Edwards in Smithville, MO. He grew up in Dearborn, MO and attended North Platte School. He then served his country in the United State Army where he was stationed in Alaska.&nbsp;

On June 4, 1960, he was united in marriage to Emma L. “Tee” Jameson. After their marriage they lived in Dearborn where they made their home. In 2014 they moved to Smithville, MO. Tee passed away on May 12, 2016.

Billy was a barber in Dearborn for several years and later retired from TWA as an aircraft mechanic.&nbsp;

He loved playing pool and spending time with his family. Billy and Tee enjoyed spending winters in Texas and they also had a newspaper route for the St. Joseph News Press. Billy was a great husband, dad and grandpa.&nbsp;

Billy was also preceded in death his parents; his brother and sisters and their spouses.&nbsp;

He is survived by his son Billy Shawn Edwards and wife Patty; grandchildren Noah and Tyler Edwards; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Leonard Kay “LT” Musser, Jr.,75, of Gower, MO passed away September 24, 2023.

He was born on November 12, 1947, to Leonard Kay, Sr. and Bessie Bernice (Reynolds) Musser in St. Joseph, MO. He grew up in Gower and in 1966 he graduated from Gower High School.&nbsp;

On February 25, 1971, he was united in marriage to Debra Lynn Lawson. After their marriage they lived in Gower where they made their home with their daughter Rachael. Debi passed away on January 18, 1980.

He delivered farm fuel and propane in the area for Frazier Oil until his retirement in 2018 after 42 years. Leonard was a member of the Gower JC’s, was the coach for the Gower Merchants slow pitch softball team and he was a member of the Gower Oldtimer’s Hall of Fame. He was a past member of the Gower Fire Protection Team where he had many positions including being the Chief. Leonard’s favorite pastime was scouting and hunting deer. He loved watching old westerns and most of all Leonard loved spending time with friends, family and his girls.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his wife, Debi Musser; his parents Kay and Bernice Musser; and his brother-in-law Ivan Herpel.

Leonard is survived by his daughter Rachael Smith and husband Paul; granddaughters Erin and Allyson Liday; great-granddaughter Ivy; sisters Wanda Herpel and Peggy Jensen and husband Jeff; brother-in-law Dan Lawson and wife Debbie; nieces and nephews Lori and Shannon Milbourn, Rusty and Beth Herpel, Rob and Rachael Herpel, Carmen Inman and Rhonda Lawson; several great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.&nbsp;

Geraldine A. “Gere” Greene, age 92, of Atchison, Kansas, died peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023, at the Dooley Center at Mount St. Scholastica.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 11:00 A. M. at St. Benedict Church with Rev. Meinrad Miller, OSB as celebrant. Interment will be Friday, September 29th at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Solomon, Kansas. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, September 28th at 10:00 A.M. with visitation to follow at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom funeral care has been entrusted.

Gere was born May 7, 1931, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of William and Catherine Duncan Wolters. She attended Atchison Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy before attending Mount St. Scholastica College. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salina, Kansas.

Gere served as an elementary school teacher for one year and then as a CMA for Home Health for ten years until her retirement. Her most important role was being a homemaker in the family home for her husband and her nine children.

She and James B. Greene were united in marriage on December 29, 1952, in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Greene preceded her in death on February 26, 2011. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Meikle; a sister, Margaret Mary Johannes; and five brothers, Tom, Bill, Phil, John and Francis Wolters.

Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Greene, Salina, KS; Mary (Mike) Hays, Salina, KS; six sons, Jim (Christine) Greene, Granada Hills, CA; Bill (Kelley) Greene, Sylmar, CA; Tom (Janet) Greene, Wichita, KS; Mark (Becky) Greene, Salina, KS; Pat (Romunda) Greene, Wichita, KS; David (Debbie) Greene, Wichita, KS; three sisters, Catherine (Jim) Lahey, Colorado Springs, CO; Sr. Dorothy Wolters, OSB, Atchison, KS; Theresa (Ray) Miller, Atchison, KS; a brother, Mike (Connie) Wolters, Kansas City, MO; eighteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

Ramona Lee Cowger, 91, of DeKalb, MO, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023 at a Kansas City, MO health care facility. She was born February 4, 1932 in Rural Dekalb, MO, daughter of Marie and Loren "L.C." Long. 

She attended the Bethel School and later DeKalb High School. On March 19, 1949, she married her husband of 56 years, Roy Cowger. &nbsp;Ramona worked many years for Stanley Home Products. She was also a devoted Homemaker, and a very caring and loving lady, who was always there for her family and provided a listening ear. Ramona could often be found outside enjoying her garden. &nbsp;One of many things she will be remembered for was her fall tradition of picking apples and making applesauce. Over 25 years, she was a devoted member of &nbsp;C.A.S.A (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Ramona was a proud longtime member of the former DeKalb United Methodist Church and also an advocate for carrying on the memory of the former Bethel School. 

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy Cowger, son, Rocky Cowger, and brother, Dean Long.

Leatha Nicholson 82, of Faucett, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at her home in Faucett, MO. She was born August 12, 1941 in Springfield, MO, daughter of the late Bess &amp; Adrian Wright. 

She married Robert Nicholson on November 21, 1959, he passed away in 2020. She was the worlds best mom and grandma, who enjoyed sewing, cooking, making friends, and telling stories. She was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church. 

Leatha was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Nicholson, her parents, and ten brothers &amp; sisters. 

She is survived by sons; Bob (Kim) Nicholson, Faucett, MO, Wayne (Alma) Nicholson, San Antonio, TX, daughters; Lisa (Bill) Smith, Leavenworth, KS, Tracy (Carl) Zaborowski, Gentry, AR, and Jennifer (Doug) Tippett, Springdale, AR, sister, Jinny (Gary) Britton, Springfield, MO, and 17 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

Leatha Nicholson 1941 - 2023

Wesley Roy Reed 62, of Elwood, KS, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Kansas University Medical Center. He was born July 8, 1961 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Mary and Sanford Reed. 

He graduated from Elwood High School,  class of 1979. He was the owner operator at Reed Sewer Service. Wes was a very kind hearted, and the sweetest generous man, who loved his poodles, fishing, horseshoes, music, and playing the guitar in several bands. He was a member of the Family Worship Center Church, St. Joseph, MO. 

Wes was preceded in death by wife, Betty Jean Reed, parents, sister, Linda Lewis, brother, Kenny Reed, and great nephew, Landon Lewis. 

Survivors include: three nieces, Kenah Reed (Rick James), Kelly Lewis, and Carie (Matt) Davis all of St. Joseph, MO, 9 great nieces and nephews, 4 step daughters, and several step grandchildren.

Wesley Roy Reed 1961 - 2023

John Michael Thompson 75, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at his home in St. &nbsp;Joseph, MO. He was born January 24, 1948 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Betty and Wilbur Thompson. 

He graduated from Central High School 1966, and served in the United States Marines Corp, and is a veteran of the Viet Nam War. He is the recipient of 2 purple hearts, the National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. John retired from Quaker Oats after 31 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom and pheasant hunting, traveling, taking pictures, and spending time with his grandkids and family and the peace and serenity that the Nodaway river had to offer. He was a member of &nbsp;St. Patrick Catholic Church.

 John was preceded in death by his parents, son, Sean Michael Thompson, and brother, David Thompson. 

Survivors include: wife, Juanita Thompson of the home, son, Chad (Stefanie) Thompson, daughter, Jennifer (Moses) Leonard, sister Anne (Roger) Roseberry, brothers; Patrick Thompson, Kansas City, MO. and Mark (Bobby) Thompson of Plano, TX, 8 grandchildren, Anthony, Stevie (Matt), Heather (Colton), Julius Thompson, Kody Conner, Rylea (Barry) Evans, Irelyn and Piper Leonard, and 10 great grandchildren, Remedy, Tessa, Camryn, Zavarie Thompson, Markie Scott, Sergio Calvin, Riott Wells, Lakelan and Cypress Evans, his name sake John M. Thompson.&nbsp;

The Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 pm Wednesday, September 27, 2023 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Deacon John Nash, officiating. The Inurnment will be at a later date, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery with Military Honors.

John Michael Thompson 75, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at his home in St. &nbsp;Joseph, MO. He was born January 24, 1948 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Betty and Wilbur Thompson. He graduated from Central High School 1966, and served in the United States Marines Corp, and is a veteran of the Viet Nam War. He is the recipient of 2 purple hearts, the National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. John retired from Quaker Oats after 31 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom and pheasant hunting, traveling, taking pictures, and spending time with his grandkids and family and the peace and serenity that the Nodaway river had to offer. He was a member of &nbsp;St. Patrick Catholic Church. John was preceded in death by his parents, son, Sean Michael Thompson, and brother, David Thompson. A retired member of the Missouri National Guard, Tracy was a man of simple pleasures. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's swim meets, games and activities. He looked forward to the camaraderie of his friends and often gathered with them, sharing laughter and stories over the years.

Junior was born on August 13, 1937, in Nodaway County, MO, his parents were Lester Ellis and Ruby (Riley) Roush, Sr. His parents preceded him in death.&nbsp; He was also preceded by his wife, Marjorie, and by his siblings, Loraine Freemeyer, Laberta Palmer, and Harold, Vervil, and Charles Roush, and his brother-in-law, Marvin Palmer.

Lester served his Country in the Army National Guard for 11 years and did surveyor work.

His memberships included the Pickering United Methodist Church, and the Pickering Lions Club, and was very active in the annual Pickering Horse Show.&nbsp;

He enjoyed his tractors, and country gospel music.

On January 1, 1956, at the Pickering United Methodist Church, Junior was united in marriage to Marjorie Jean Pistole. They were married for over 67 years before her death on May 23, 2023.

Junior farmed, and also had worked for MODOT for 37 years as a surveyor.

After graduating from Lafayette High School in 1956, Helen worked as a machine operator at Meade Products. February 12, 1956, she was wed to Chester Lee Gilbert, and their marriage was a loving partnership until his passing in 2000.

A sports enthusiast, she showed her allegiance by faithfully supporting Chiefs football. An ardent lover of nature, she found great joy in fishing and tending to her garden. Her membership at Eagles Lodge kept her socially active, and she always looked forward to attending functions at Silver and Gold.

Helen is survived by her children, Duane Gilbert, Kandy White (Mike), Ronnie Gilbert, and Timothy Gilbert (Kim); grandchildren, Korinda, Krystal, Kari, Bailey, and Chase. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends whose lives she touched.

Maurene Joyce Barnes, 93, of Onaga, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Onaga Health and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.

She was born March 30, 1930 at Soldier, the daughter of Walter and Opal (Beach) Biester.

Maurene had worked at the dress factory, as a kitchen aide and nurses aide at the nursing home, and had groomed dogs at the Onaga Animal Clinic, all in Onaga.

She married Dale Barnes on November 15, 1948 in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on July 23, 2008.

Maurene was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Kenneth W. Barnes, who died in 2020, and a sister Sharon Williams.

Survivors include her son, Raynard Barnes, of Topeka; a daughter, Gail Brenner, of Soldier; grandsons, Cole W. Barnes (Paige) and Wyatt W. Barnes (Marilyn) of Lawrence; granddaughters Nicki Curtis (Brian) of Holton, and Brandi (Matt) Fritz and Kyli Brenner (Chris), of Soldier. &nbsp;Great-grandchildren Erin and Brock Curtis; Xavier, Emirson, and Brandin Fritz; Riley, Tyler Brenner-Kraushaar, and Kolten Brenner; and a sister Helen Hower of Kansas City.

Delores J Smith, 92, passed away on September 22, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO.

Delores was born November 7, 1930, in Mound City, MO. Her parents were the late Louie L and Ester R (Nauman) Field. Delores graduated from Mound City High School in 1948 and attended Gard Business School in St. Joseph.

On December 31, 1949, Delores married Sidney E Smith. The high school sweethearts celebrated 70 years of marriage before Sidney’s passing on May 21, 2020. Their greatest gift from God was their son, Stanley E Smith, born on September 5, 1957. He died on August 25, 2003.

After graduation, Delores was secretary to Lester A Vonderschmidt, attorney and Speaker of the House of Representatives in Jefferson City. At a later date, she was also receptionist for Dr. Muriel Joy, DDS.

Delores was a charter member of the Omega Club, a member of the Christian Fellowship Church and a friend to many.

Delores had two brothers: Roland L Field and wife, P.J. and Robert D Field and wife, Barbara.

Survivors include her grandchildren: Misty (Mark) Allen and Jeremy Smith; and her great grandchildren: Jeffrey and Levi Watts, Hudson and Parker Allen, and Joshua, Austin and Shelby Smith.

Services will be held at the Christian Fellowship Church on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery following the service.

Larry was a 1961 graduate of West Platte High School. Larry married Betty May Anderson, on December 30, 1962, in Rapid City, SD. Larry was a member of the U.S. Air Force joining June 0f 1961. After his service in the military he worked for TWA for 38 years as Service manager. He also mowed for the special Road District and was an active member of the American Legion Post 501 and the Masonic lodge. He enjoyed mowing his lawn also. 

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jesse Ray (Pee Wee) Crockett.

 Larry is survived by: his wife Betty May (Anderson) Crockett, two sons; Jimmie (Donna) Crockett, Darrin (Jan) Crockett, a sister, Patty Wade, three grandchildren and nine Great-Grandchildren.

Robert Johnston, 83, of St. Joseph, passed from this life on September 23, 2023.

He is survived by sons, Kevin (Becky) Johnston and Brad (Rita) Johnston; two grandsons, Jackson and Samuel Johnston and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandson Walker Johnston, his wife Georgia and three sisters and two brothers.

Mark Steven Wright, 55, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023.

He was born May 10, 1968 in Washington, D.C., to Steven and Sherry (Bartch) Wright.

Mark proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, first in the 2nd Armored Division, nicknamed Hell on Wheels, and then in the Alpha Company of the 142nd Signal Battalion, both based at Fort Hood, Texas. He was deployed during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield.

Mark married Tammie Kay Breckenridge on October 24, 2010. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2020.

He was a Senior Pilot Plant Technician and Internal Thermal Process Expert for Nestle for 25 years, helping perfect processes before they were rolled out companywide.

Mark was passionate about many things, including his video games -- especially Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto, anything Star Wars, medieval things, his guns and dirt bikes. He loved to kick back with a cold Busch Light.

Mark loved music, especially his sons’ punk rock band, Almost Enemies. He was their biggest fan and never missed a show.

A big family man, Mark always made sure they were taken care of. He was a great man.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tammie; father, Steven; and his grandparents, Mildred and Floyd Bartch.

Survivors include his children, Kyle Culp, Jacob Wright (Erin Wilkins), Jessica Wright (Connor Fraley), Jacob Hughes, Jada McMillen and Jordan McMillen; grandchildren, Zander, Zoey and Azalea Culp; his mother, Sherry Bartch; siblings, Chad Wright (Spencer), David Hughes (Heidi), Nathan Wright and Jessica Wright; other extended family members and friends; and his beloved dog, Shamus.

Norma Elaine Cobb, 96, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

She was born December 10, 1926 in Bedford, Iowa to Mark and Lulu Robinson.

Norma worked as a teacher at the Easton, Missouri school district for 20 years and provided daycare for many families along the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, sisters, and parents.

Survivors include her children, Craig Cobb, Catherine Petersen (Alan), Kelly Cobb (Michelle), Chris Cobb (Lisa); 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, her sister Margie Sanders and numerous nieces and nephews.

Norma loved being in the outdoors doing gardening, bird watching and fishing. She had a zest for life that was immediately felt by everyone who met her beautiful big smile and infectious laugh. Her adventurous nature included flying around with her husband to the next Shriner event or landing in a farmer’s field to spend time at the family lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks. She traveled near, yet far and if you would ask her, she would most likely say, “oh yes I’ve been there and done that” as she toasted with a Bourbon &amp; Pepsi. She was an avid KU Basketball and Kansas City Chiefs fan. In her late years, she would look around a room and proclaim to be the oldest, yet she looked to be the youngest. Norma had unconditional love and care for her family and close friends and thus she was often referred to as an “angel”. Her grandchildren would often tell her a fun and crazy story just to get her to say her infamous “WOO”. We are sure she is storming heaven with exactly those words.

She was born on February 5, 1964, in Fremont, Nebraska to Elory and Beverly (Pauly) Price.

Anita enjoyed being at home, genealogy, and watching/loving any child that walked through her door. She was the glue of the family, and she will be missed dearly.

Maysville, Missouri…Clarence Edward Douglas, age 92, was born September 3, 1931, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Oliver Vaughn Douglas and Nellie Beatrice (Cook) and passed away September 20, 2023, in Maysville, Missouri.

Clarence lived most of his life in California until about 15 years ago when he moved to Maysville to live with his brother and sister-in-law, Hank and Susie Douglas, due to failing health.&nbsp; &nbsp;

While in California, he enlisted in the Marine Corp and worked at Allen Bradley Manufacturing for many years. He enjoyed fishing but especially fishing in the Pacific Ocean along California’s coastline.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tommy Douglas; and daughter, Debra Sue Douglas.

He is survived by his children, Clarence Douglas Jr. and Ella Louise White; brother, Henry Clay Douglas (Suzie); and a host of family and friends.

Kelly Knotts, 66, of Lake Minatare, Nebraska met his Savior on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, after a brief but furious battle with cancer.

He was born February 26, 1957, in Gering, NE, the middle child of Dallas and Caroline (Schmick) Knotts. Kelly attended Gering schools and graduated from Gering High School in 1975. He met the love of his life Tammy Grasmick in High School at the age of 16 and her 15. They were married September 25, 1976, and to this love affair were born two beautiful children Amber and Chad.

Kelly earned his Eagle Scout and God and Country medals attending many life-changing Boy Scout camps and activities. Kelly farmed the first few years of his marriage with the Grasmick Family Farms before moving on to adult beverage sales and distribution. He then followed in his father’s footsteps and entered the family flooring installation business until retirement.

Kelly was a member and leader of the North Platte Valley Boat Club serving on the board as Commodore and Board Member for too many years to count. The lake was his true home, in 1997, Kelly and Tammy moved permanently to the lake in the home that he built.

Kelly was preceded in death by his father Dallas, father-in-law Melvin Grasmick, and father-in-law Conrad (Blackie) Harimon.In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Kelly Knotts Memorial Foundation where donations can be made to assist local Boy Scouts with scouting activities.
