Judith Ann “Judy” Halferty, 86, St. Joseph, MO, died Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at the Gower Convalescent Center.&nbsp;

She was born January 17, 1938 in Plattsburg, MO to J.B. and Delores Halferty. She was raised in Plattsburg and later moved to St. Joseph, MO, where she lived most of her adult life.

Preceding her in death were her parents, J.B. and Delores Halferty; brother, Jimmy Halferty; and nephew, J.W. Lile.

Ms. Halferty held a B.S. in Education from Missouri Western State University and a M.S. in Education from Northwest Missouri State University. She started the first pre-school program at Lake Contrary School in St. Joseph and finished her teaching career at Bessie Ellison School teaching kindergarten.

She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Delta Kappa Gamma, P.E.O. Chapter BJ, where she was Past President and Past Reciprocity President, Retired Missouri Teachers Association, the St. Joseph Runcie Club, and an active member of McCarthy Baptist Church.&nbsp;

Survivors: a daughter, Jennifer Lambright and husband Steve of Madison, MS; three grandchildren, Kyle Lambright (Leah) of Union, KY, Troy Lambright of Shreveport, LA, and Katie Lambright Beddingfield (Jeff) of Jackson, MS; six great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Miller, Micah, Layla, Knox, and Tyler Kate Lambright; sister, Janette Lile (Don) of Gower, MO; nephew, Don Lile (Ashley); and former husband, John C. Carolyn Jean (Haze) Clark, 78, Savannah, Missouri, passed away on February 27, 2024. She was born on July 24, 1945, in Turlock, California, to Cecil R. and Jacquelyn A. (Keys) Haze.

Carolyn graduated from Alameda High School in 1963. She led a fulfilling career with American Family Insurance, where she performed many roles over the years, dedicating her time and talents to the company. Her dedication extended beyond her professional life and into her contributions to her community. Carolyn was a devoted Girl Scout Leader for many years, inspiring numerous young women with her leadership and kindness. A faithful member of Savannah Baptist Church, she embodied the values of compassion and community service in her daily life.

Carolyn's zest for life was reflected in her various hobbies, which included ceramics, tote painting, and scrapbooking—endeavors that showcased her artistic talents and her love for preserving memories.

She first married Jerry Linn Townsend on March 24, 1964, who preceded her in death in 1997. Her heart found love again, and she married Walter Bruce Clark on September 1, 2000, with whom she shared many cherished moments.

She is survived by her husband, Walter B. Clark; daughters, Karen Townsend Guinn and Lori Townsend Aistrope; step-daughters Wendy Sisk, Jodi Duncan (Greg), Jennifer Lundy (Jeff), and Carie O'Neal (Tim); and her precious grandchildren, Zackery Aistrope, Colby Aistrope, Brady Aistrope, Jacob Richie, Hana DeJarnette, Emily Guinn, Jacob Lundy, Jessie Lundy, Jenna O’Neal, Nelson O’Neal, Rylan Duncan, Zachary Duncan, and Wade Duncan; numerous great-grandchildren; and aunt, Margie Malone.

Samantha Ann Russell Rose, 51, Roeland Park, Kansas, passed away Monday, February 26, 2024.&nbsp;

She was born July 17, 1972 in Beacon, New York to Roland and Janet (Reeve) Russell. She graduated in 1990 from Georgetown, Texas, High School, then earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Texas Christian University.

Samantha married Leslie Rose on March 15, 1997. He preceded her in death on October 18, 2009.

Samantha enjoyed reading and watching Netflix, and loved to travel, taking yearly special trips with her son. She also loved Mexican food.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie; her parents; and beloved cat, Bop.

Michael "Mike" Chellew, 70, a beloved husband, father, pepaw, son, and brother, succumbed to his long fought battle with stomach cancer on February 26, 2024. Born on September 17, 1953, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Donald L. and Ruth M. (Meadows) Chellew.

A proud veteran, Mike served his country in the United States Navy onboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma City during the Vietnam War, exhibiting bravery and commitment that lasted a tenure of two years active duty followed by four years in the reserve. Mike married Cynthia Sue Smith, on February 16, 1979. Their union was not only a testament to enduring love but also formed the foundation of a loving family, including their children, Brad (Brandi), Bryan (Lacey), and Jamie (James) Chellew, who further blessed Mike with the laughter of five grandchildren: Kasch Chellew, Ryder Chellew, Dillin, Kylie, and Cooper. His family was most important to him.

Mike was a highly respected lineman for 17 years and later an operations manager for 23 years for United Electric Cooperative, where his excellence in service was recognized with the prestigious J.C. Burrows Award. His unwavering dedication to safety and efficiency also led him to serve on the Risk Management and Training Planning Committee for the state, benefiting many in his field.

Mike’s interests depicted the portrait of a man deeply connected to both community and nature. His time spent golfing, fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting were cherished interludes, while his commitment to family was consistent and unyielding. Mike was a pillar in the Masonic community, serving three times as Master of the Savannah Lodge, a Moila Shriners member, and taking pride in his role as District Deputy Grand Master. His devotion to mentoring the young was evident through his coaching for the Metro Wrestling Club and Little League Baseball, marks of his strong belief in giving back and shaping future generations.

He leaves behind his loving wife Cynthia; their children and grandchildren; his mother Ruth; siblings Dennis Chellew (Stephanie), Donna Beasley (Terry), Diana Silcott (Chris); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his father Donald, Mike now joins him in eternal rest.

She was born February 20, 1940, at home, in rural Havensville, Jackson County, Kansas. &nbsp;The daughter of Clifford William Chance and Ida Nancy Arganbright Chance. &nbsp;She graduated from Springdale Grade School and Havensville High School. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Gale Lee McDougal and Ruth “Nadine” Chance were married on April 18, 1964. &nbsp;He survives of the home.

Ruth “Nadine” was preceded in death by her parents, also a daughter, Janet E. McDougal, sisters Virginia (Lyle) McDougal and Judy K (Richard) Ribelin.

Other survivors include a daughter, Joyce (Mike) Hart, a Granddaughter Kimber L (Cory) Bradley, three step Grandaughters, Shara, Jayden and Kate. &nbsp;Sister’s Dorothy (Jim) Kluender and Mary (Lloyd) Ringel, Brothers-in-law, Lyle and Richard, and several nieces and nephews.

Renee Roy Shopteese, Quengo, 56, of Delia, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 in Topeka.

She was born January 12, 1968 in Holton, the daughter of Virgil Shopteese, Sr. and Delilah Allen Shopteese. She graduated from the Kickapoo Nation High School.

Renee was a member of the Kickapoo and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nations, and the Drum Religion.

She had worked in home health care as a Certified Nurse’s Aide.

Renee was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Virgie Lee Shopteese and Mavis Shopteese.

Survivors include two sons, Dakota “Kack-Kack” Shopteese, Topeka, and Keegan Shopteese, Tulsa, OK, two daughters, Keanu Shopteese, Lawrence, and Desiree Shopteese, Topeka, one brother, Virgil “Wamp” Shopteese, Jr., Delia, five sisters, Toni McIntosh, Jodi McIntosh and Linda “Lemon” Shopteese, all of Pawhuska, OK, Laury D. Shopteese, Mayetta and Tracy Shopteese, Topeka, eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Renee will lie in state after Noon on Sunday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. where a visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. She will also lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Renee Roy Shopteese 1968 - 2024

Dixie Kathleen (Allen) Derr passed away peacefully at her home on February 27, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Dixie was born in Union Star, Missouri, on January 28, 1944. She was one of seven children of Loren Allen and Dorothy Ferne (Campbell) Allen.

Dixie and her family moved to Oregon, Missouri, just before her junior year of high school. While Dixie was sad to leave her friends in Union Star, she made new ones in Oregon and became active in school. Her favorite classes were biology and shorthand. Dixie played basketball, was a cheerleader, and was crowned the 1961 Oregon High School Homecoming Queen her senior year. Dixie graduated from South Holt High School in the spring of 1962.

Dixie went on to use her exceptional shorthand skills working as an administrative assistant for Missouri Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri, and Attorneys Rupert Pettijohn and Jack Eiser of Pettijohn and Eiser LLC, in Oregon, Missouri.

On January 17, 1964, she married her best friend George Warner (G.W.) Derr, and they became the loving parents to two children, Brad and Bridgit.

Dixie loved to knit as a hobby but turned her hobby into a business when she opened Dixie's Knitting Room in Oregon, Missouri, in 1980 and became a dealer for Brother Knitting Machines. Teaching others to knit was high on her list of favorite activities. She gave free lessons to her customers and hosted a "Knit Club" that met monthly and included thirty-one members from three states. She also taught for Brother Seminars in Kansas City, Missouri.

As Dixie grew her business, she opened a new location in St. Joseph, Missouri, in 1986.

G.W. and Dixie purchased Oregon Truck &amp; Tractor Inc. in 1991. Dixie managed the office, handled all the bookkeeping, and wrote contracts and &nbsp; equipment &nbsp; warranties. &nbsp; In the fall of 1998 they opened Derr&nbsp;Equipment in Savannah, Missouri. G.W. and Dixie retired full-time in 2009 and moved to Table Rock Lake. Retirement was full of lake activities enjoyed by family and friends.

Dixie was most active throughout her life, serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a founding member of the Oregon First Baptist Church, where she played the piano, taught bible study, and was an accompanist for weddings and funerals for friends and family throughout their community.

She traveled abroad, sharing the Gospel during her four Missionary trips to Africa and later taking her granddaughter, Micaela Patterson, to Bolivia. She taught VBS, Acteens, and G.A.s and led women's ministry groups. Dixie didn't let retirement slow her down. She became an active member at the First Baptist Church, Kimberling City, where she continued to teach Sunday School, help with VBS and AWANA's, and was committed to sharing Jesus with her friends, neighbors, and others while on the stateside mission trips. She and GW were avid hosts who loved to share their home during "Dinner for 8" nights with their church family.

Dixie passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at her St. Joseph, Missouri home.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Alice and Martin Barker, and brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Connie Allen.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, G.W; son and wife, Brad and Deena Derr of Oregon, Missouri and her daughter; Bridgit Derr Patterson of Liberty, Missouri; four grandchildren; Garrett Derr and wife Rebecca, and Cutler Derr and wife Karley, all of Oregon, Missouri; Micaela Patterson and Colby Patterson of Liberty, Missouri; and one great-grandchild, McCormick Derr of Oregon; sister Donna Slaybaugh of Kansas City, Missouri; brother and wife Richard and Sharron Allen of Tennessee; sister and husband Drs Marcia and Dennis Hansen of Wisconsin; brother and wife Ron and Tracy Allen of Oregon, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who adored her.

Dixie Kathleen (Allen) Derr passed away peacefully at her home on February 27, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.Dixie was born in Union Star, Missouri, on January 28, 1944. She was one of seven children of Loren Allen and Dorothy Ferne (Campbell) Allen.Dixie and her family moved to Oregon, Missouri, just before her junior year of high school. While Dixie was sad to leave her friends in Union Star, she made new ones in Oregon and became active in school. Her favorite classes were biology and shorthand. Dixie played basketball, was a cheerleader, and was crowned the 1961 Oregon High School Homecoming Queen her senior year. Dixie graduated from South Holt High School in the spring of 1962.Dixie went on to use her exceptional shorthand skills working as an administrative assistant for Missouri Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri, and Attorneys Rupert Pettijohn and Jack Eiser of Pettijohn and Eiser LLC, in Oregon, Missouri.On January 17, 1964, she married her best friend George Warner (G.W.) Derr, and they became the loving parents to two children, Brad and Bridgit.Dixie loved to knit as a hobby but turned her hobby into a business when she opened Dixie's Knitting Room in Oregon, Missouri, in 1980 and became a dealer for Brother Knitting Machines. Teaching others to knit was high on her list of favorite activities. She gave free lessons to her customers and hosted a "Knit Club" that met monthly and included thirty-one members from three states. She also taught for Brother Seminars in Kansas City, Missouri.As Dixie grew her business, she opened a new location in St. Joseph, Missouri, in 1986.G.W. and Dixie purchased Oregon Truck &amp; Tractor Inc. in 1991. Dixie managed the office, handled all the bookkeeping, and wrote contracts and &nbsp; equipment &nbsp; warranties. &nbsp; In the fall of 1998 they opened Derr&nbsp;Equipment in Savannah, Missouri. G.W. and Dixie retired full-time in 2009 and moved to Table Rock Lake. Retirement was full of lake activities enjoyed by family and friends.Dixie was most active throughout her life, serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a founding member of the Oregon First Baptist Church, where she played the piano, taught bible study, and was an accompanist for weddings and funerals for friends and family throughout their community.She traveled abroad, sharing the Gospel during her four Missionary trips to Africa and later taking her granddaughter, Micaela Patterson, to Bolivia. She taught VBS, Acteens, and G.A.s and led women's ministry groups. Dixie didn't let retirement slow her down. She became an active member at the First Baptist Church, Kimberling City, where she continued to teach Sunday School, help with VBS and AWANA's, and was committed to sharing Jesus with her friends, neighbors, and others while on the stateside mission trips. She and GW were avid hosts who loved to share their home during "Dinner for 8" nights with their church family.Dixie passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at her St. Joseph, Missouri home.She is preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Alice and Martin Barker, and brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Connie Allen.Survivors include her husband of 60 years, G.W; son and wife, Brad and Deena Derr of Oregon, Missouri and her daughter; Bridgit Derr Patterson of Liberty, Missouri; four grandchildren; Garrett Derr and wife Rebecca, and Cutler Derr and wife Karley, all of Oregon, Missouri; Micaela Patterson and Colby Patterson of Liberty, Missouri; and one great-grandchild, McCormick Derr of Oregon; sister Donna Slaybaugh of Kansas City, Missouri; brother and wife Richard and Sharron Allen of Tennessee; sister and husband Drs Marcia and Dennis Hansen of Wisconsin; brother and wife Ron and Tracy Allen of Oregon, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who adored her.Dixie had a selfless personality and touched so many lives. Charlotte Montgomery, 81, of Kansas City, MO passed away, February 29, 2024.

She was born on February 5, 1943 to Roy Harvey and Charlotte (Wilson) Fleming in Kansas City, MO. Charlotte grew up in Kansas City, MO and graduated from East High School in 1961.

She met the love of her life at Hallmark Cards and was united in marriage to Gary Montgomery on March 2, 1962. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City before moving to Smithville and starting their family.&nbsp;

She retired from Hallmark Cards after 38 years and they moved to Pharr, Texas for a few years before returning to Kansas City. She very much loved her family, loved to bowl 3 times a week and play cards weekly.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 61 years, Gary; her parents; her brother, Bob Fleming; and sister, Sharon Nolan.

She leaves behind two children, Richard (Diana) Montgomery of Kansas City, MO, daughter Cindy (Guy) Carter of Independence, MO; sisters, Carolyn Rider and Karen Wingerter; sister-in-law, Ruth Fleming; grandchildren, Stephen (Danita) Brooke, Katie and Chris Braton, Linda Piemonte (Aaron), Liz Piemonte (Edwin), Kaylee (Brett) Campbell, and Kristian Carter; great-grandchildren Gavin, Makenzie, Hunter and Ryker Brooke, Waylon Braton, and Cooper Campbell; several nieces, nephews and extended family and loving friends.

Anna May Gardner, 86, of Plattsburg, MO passed away February 29, 2024.

She was born on August 5, 1937. She grew up in St. Louis and Smithville and graduated from Smithville High School.

On October 2, 1957 she was united in marriage to Charles D. Gardner. After their marriage they lived in Plattsburg where they made their home. Her husband, C.D., preceded her in death on October 20, 2018.

Anna loved crafts, sewing, gardening, woodworking, and cooking.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Andre Marceau; and granddaughter-in-law, Beckie DeFreece.

Anna is survived by her children Debbie (Terry) DeFreece, Chuck Gardner and Lynda Marceau; grandchildren Cristina (Chad) Vincent, Derick DeFreece, Nicholas (Jenny) DeFreece, Magan Araiza, Ashley Gardner, Devin Gardner, Amanda (Ariel) Lallana, and Skylar Marceau; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Helen (Sonny) Perman, Doris Kauffman and Rose (John) Utter; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.&nbsp;

Thelma R. Hewins, 103, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024, at her home.

Thelma was born on March 5, 1920, in Wathena, Kansas to Alouis and Anna Marie (Miller) Staudenmaier.

She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Thelma worked for Sherwood Medical as a Finisher.

Thelma married Kenneth Frederick Hewins on June 19, 1942, in St. Joseph, Missouri. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Linda Andrews, son, Leroy Hewins, sisters, Elizabeth Tharman, Martha Terrell and Mary Grace Koons, brothers, Andrew, Phillip, and Joseph Staudenmaier, grandson, Nicholas Irby and great grandson, Christopher Stivers.

Survivors: daughters, Patricia Odegaard, Nancy Marie, Jo Ellen Hewins, Helen Hewins and Eva Marie Hewins-Deisler.

Sons, Glenn Hewins (Patty) and Harvey Hewins (Alinea).

15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, one on the way,

and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Megan Rose Caddell, 39, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at her home. She was born April 22, 1984 in St. Joseph, daughter of Rhonda (Meng) and Michael Caddell. Megan spent her first week of life at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City due to a birth defect, Tuberous Sclerosis. Even with her disability, she always had a smile and enjoyed life to the fullest. At age 2, she began attending UCP for therapy and socialization. At age 5, she began attending Helen Davis State School, where she graduated from in 2005. At Helen Davis, she met the love of her life, Justin Gould, who passed in 2016. Megan also continued to attend the UCP Adult Program for several years. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church. Megan enjoyed eating, going into her community and swimming.

She is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Richard and Inez Meng, paternal grandparents, Roy and Willa Caddell and several great aunts and uncles. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Rhonda and Roderick DuLac of St. Joseph, father, Michael Caddell of St. Joseph, brother, Scott Caddell of San Diego, CA, all who she totally adored. She is also survived by uncles and aunts, Gregory Meng, Tamara and Jeff John, Tracy and Brian Resch, bonus grandparents, Charlene and Randall DuLac, Selena and Clayton Richards, Lyle DuLac, and many aunts, uncles and cousins on the DuLac side. She is also survived by caregivers Kathy Parker and Rebekeh Rutherford.

Robert George Dynes, 81, St.Joseph, &nbsp;Mo. Passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

Robert was born on September 15, 1942 to parents Milton Dynes and Alice Dynes in St Joseph Mo.After graduating from Central High School in 1960 went on to service in the US Army 1964 – 1970.

In 1964 met first wife Dodie Thompson and had 2 children Robert William Dynes (Wife Kelly) and Brenda Lee Shanks (Husband Jeff).Robert had 6 Grandkids. Robert Dynes JR, Brooke Long, Boston Black, Noah Shanks, Mia Shanks, Josh Obermier and 10 Great Grandkids.

In 1970 went to work at Krause Milling Company where he retired from.In 2002 met second wife Myrtle Wright.&nbsp;

He was married to Myrtle until she passed away September 2023.

He spent his time playing, singing Country music and writing songs.

Peggy Lee Hart, age 69, of Rosendale, MO, passed away February 25th after a courageous two-year battle with lung cancer.

Peggy was born in Bertha, MN to Ervin and Stella Warner. She grew up on the family farm in Long Prairie, MN. Peggy graduated from Browerville High School in May of 1972. Upon graduation, she moved to Melrose MN then later to St. Paul, MN. It was in St Paul that she met her first husband, Terry Charter.

Peggy and Terry had one daughter, LeeAnn Marie Warner. In 1998, Peggy moved to Spring Valley, WI. It was there that she met her second husband, Steven Hart. Peggy and Steve later separated, and in 2000 Peggy moved to Rosendale, MO to be with her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Larry Lewis.

Peggy was a hard worker. She had many different jobs over the years. She worked many years at Ramsey Hospital in St. Paul, and she worked for 17 years at Laverna Senior Living in Savannah, MO as a Cook. During her employment, she got her CNA certification. She enjoyed her job there and was always ready to help others. After her retirement, she continued to work part time doing private home health care for an elderly patient.

Peggy loved to forage for mushrooms, do woodworking, make greeting cards, and do scrapbooking. She enjoyed travelling. One of her favorite trips was to a dude ranch in Arizona. She especially liked to be with family and friends.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Leeann Warner, her sisters Donna Warner, and Judy Lewis, her brother Michael Warner, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Stella Warner, brothers Richard Warner, John Warner, and Howard Warner, sisters Harriet Barriault and Roseann Vogel, as well as sister Mary Dick who died in infancy.

Visitation will be Friday, March 8th from 6:00- 7:00 pm and her funeral on Saturday, March 9th at 10:30 a.m.&nbsp; Both will be held at the Rosendale Christian Church in Rosendale, MO.

He was born September 20, 1949 to Eugene and Willie in Paragould, Arkansas.

Freddie enjoyed being the business owner of Ritter Tree Service for over 50 years. He always enjoyed being outside and on-the-go. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff Ritter; grandchild, Tyler Payne; and sibling, Jerry Ritter.

Robert L. Fay, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024. Robert, who went by Bob, was born June 24, 1931 in Joplin, Missouri to Carroll and Georgia (Revelle) Fay.

Bob’s father and uncle owned Southwestern Sash and Door in Joplin, Missouri, and Bob spent much of his youth working in various aspects of his father’s business – an experience that would later influence his entrepreneurial pursuits.

Bob attended the University of Missouri where he studied business and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. When the Korean War began, he felt called to enlist in the Army, where he earned his Combat Infantryman Badge as well as other awards and medals. Bob’s experience in battle taught him many things, including leadership and great respect for his fellow soldiers.

Bob married Susan King on June 30, 1956 and they were partners in life for 65 years. They raised their family — a son, Steve, and daughter, Carol — in St. Joseph, Missouri, a city they called home as a married couple for more than five decades.

Bob and Susan loved their town and worked hard to forge successful businesses and meaningful friendships there. Bob was a successful entrepreneur, owning Bob Fay’s TV &amp; Appliance store for more than 30 years and later operating Bob Fay Finance Companies.

Bob’s parents gave him an appreciation for civic responsibility, and Bob funneled that appreciation into relationships with others who were working to keep the St. Joseph community strong.

As a United Way volunteer for more than 30 years, Bob held a variety of important positions. He led the 1973 fundraising drive, served twice as board president and was the first chairman of the United Way Crystal Circle. In 1987, he was one of 50 national recipients to be presented with the Alexis de Tocqueville Society Award, the United Way’s highest volunteer award. The award was presented by former President Gerald Ford at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Bob served as member and president of the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art and board chairman of Heartland Health Systems. He also donated his time to the boards of the Calla E. Varner Education Foundation, the St. Joseph School Foundation, the YMCA, Head Start, Family Guidance, Salvation Army Advisory Board, Gold Coats of Missouri Western State University, the St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce, the St. Joseph School District, the American National Bank, Mercantile Bank and US Bank. Bob also was a supporter of the Pony Express Museum.

Bob was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a 24-year member of the St. Joseph Racquet Club. Bob and Susan were members of the St. Joseph Country Club and the Benton Club.

Bob and Susan were fortunate to be able to travel and explore many countries, their favorite being San Miguel de Allende, Mexico - -a place they visited annually for more than 20 years.

Bob loved his adventures with Susan and took great joy in his long marriage and his children. He was especially proud of the way Steve and Carol raised their own children to be such wonderful young adults.

Bob is survived by his son, Steve and Steve’s wife, Kitty (Kirmil) Fay of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and their sons, Jack (Ari) of Frankfurt, Germany, and Will (Lindsey) of Chicago, Illinois; and by his daughter, Carol Haenisch of Prairie Village, Kansas, and her daughter, Susan Sari Haenisch of Kansas City, Missouri; and his brother, Richard Carroll Fay of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Preceding Bob in death were his wife, Susan; his parents; and brothers, Dr. George Emory Fay and Dr. Jack Revelle Fay.

Richard Cholthok, 46, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024.&nbsp;

He was born January 1, 1978 in Rumbek, South Sudan to Manuer and Agok (Doung) Cholthok.

Richard was a hardworking, honest man who would help anyone in need, especially if they needed computer help for work or school. He cared very deeply for his family and other people and often gave advice.

He also was a very sociable person, who easily made friends wherever he went. He was easygoing and loved to laugh and make others laugh with his jokes and sarcastic humor. He also enjoyed grilling.

Richard’s passing is a big loss to his family, who will honor and cherish his memory forever.

Survivors include his son, Nhial Manuel; his daughters, Nyidhal Manuel and Ayen Manuel; aunt, Assyia Madit; and cousin, Akuch Kuch.

Richard Cholthok 1978 - 2024

After a long goodbye, the heavenly angels welcomed Lois Wiltz, 81 on February 25, 2024. &nbsp;She peacefully passed in Hiawatha, Kansas at The Pines surrounded by her family. &nbsp;She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and warmth that touched so many lives. She had the kindest heart and was liked by everyone who met her.

Lois Ann Buessing was born in Axtell, Kansas on April 20, 1942 to Louis and Amelia Buessing. &nbsp;She loved growing up with her family on the farm, but she hated taking care of the chickens. &nbsp;She graduated from Baileyville High School in 1960. &nbsp;The same year a young man visited the Buessing farm to get some eggs. &nbsp;This encounter with Virgil Wiltz resulted in marriage on May 6, 1961. &nbsp;Virgil always said he went to get eggs but ended up with a chick.

Lois opened Lois’ Western Store in the 1970’s. &nbsp;She sold that business and worked for Barb’s Western Wear. &nbsp;Her lifelong job was as a homemaker, which she excelled at. &nbsp;After the daughters were grown, Lois partnered with her daughter Debbie to open Just For You Jewelry &amp; Gifts in downtown Hiawatha. &nbsp;She loved visiting with people and wearing jewelry. &nbsp;

Mom and Grandma were the titles most important to Lois. &nbsp;She treasured moments with her 3 daughters, 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and 4 great-grandchildren. &nbsp;She was the family mediator and would do anything for her family. &nbsp;She loved shopping with her daughters and making cookies with the grandkids.

Before dementia stole her mind and body, Lois was very active and enjoyed life to the fullest. &nbsp;She loved Kansas basketball. &nbsp;It is a miracle that a television never had to be replaced as she was very passionate about the Jayhawks. &nbsp;She always enjoyed scrabble, crossword puzzles, fishing, walking, adult coloring, and spending time with family and friends.&nbsp;

Lois was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha, Kansas. &nbsp;She served on the Funeral Committee for 39 years. &nbsp;She enjoyed becoming friends with her committee members, and she was devoted to helping families at a very difficult time. &nbsp;

Lois will be greatly missed by her husband Virgil of 62 years. &nbsp;Daughters Brenda (Tim) Schuetz, Charlie Wiltz, and Debbie (Randy) Phillips, all of Hiawatha. &nbsp;Grandchildren Matt Stephenson, Samantha (Cody) Ward, Chris Jones, Jeremy (Mandy) Schuetz. LeAnn (Luke) Wampler, and Rachel Phillips. &nbsp;Great-Grandchildren Reed Wampler, Raelynn Schuetz, Madison Ward, and Landen Davis. &nbsp;Lois is also survived her sister Mary Ann (Bob) Banks, brother Arlan (Shirley) Buessing, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lois will be welcomed in heaven by her parents Louis and Amelia Buessing, siblings Althea Kuhn and Marciel Wagner, and great-granddaughter Pacey Stephenson.

She had the kindest heart and was liked by everyone who met her.Lois Ann Buessing was born in Axtell, Kansas on April 20, 1942 to Louis and Amelia Buessing. &nbsp;She loved growing up with her family on the farm, but she hated taking care of the chickens. &nbsp;She graduated from Baileyville High School in 1960. &nbsp;The same year a young man visited the Buessing farm to get some eggs. &nbsp;This encounter with Virgil Wiltz resulted in marriage on May 6, 1961. &nbsp;Virgil always said he went to get eggs but ended up with a chick.Lois opened Lois’ Western Store in the 1970’s. &nbsp;She sold that business and worked for Barb’s Western Wear. &nbsp;Her lifelong job was as a homemaker, which she excelled at. &nbsp;After the daughters were grown, Lois partnered with her daughter Debbie to open Just For You Jewelry &amp; Gifts in downtown Hiawatha. &nbsp;She loved visiting with people and wearing jewelry. &nbsp;Mom and Grandma were the titles most important to Lois. &nbsp;She treasured moments with her 3 daughters, 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and 4 great-grandchildren. &nbsp;She was the family mediator and would do anything for her family. &nbsp;She loved shopping with her daughters and making cookies with the grandkids.Before dementia stole her mind and body, Lois was very active and enjoyed life to the fullest. &nbsp;She loved Kansas basketball. &nbsp;It is a miracle that a television never had to be replaced as she was very passionate about the Jayhawks. &nbsp;She always enjoyed scrabble, crossword puzzles, fishing, walking, adult coloring, and spending time with family and friends.&nbsp;Lois was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha, Kansas. &nbsp;She served on the Funeral Committee for 39 years. &nbsp;She enjoyed becoming friends with her committee members, and she was devoted to helping families at a very difficult time. &nbsp;Lois will be greatly missed by her husband Virgil of 62 years. &nbsp;Daughters Brenda (Tim) Schuetz, Charlie Wiltz, and Debbie (Randy) Phillips, all of Hiawatha. &nbsp;Grandchildren Matt Stephenson, Samantha (Cody) Ward, Chris Jones, Jeremy (Mandy) Schuetz. LeAnn (Luke) Wampler, and Rachel Phillips. &nbsp;Great-Grandchildren Reed Wampler, Raelynn Schuetz, Madison Ward, and Landen Davis. &nbsp;Lois is also survived her sister Mary Ann (Bob) Banks, brother Arlan (Shirley) Buessing, and numerous nieces and nephews.Lois will be welcomed in heaven by her parents Louis and Amelia Buessing, siblings Althea Kuhn and Marciel Wagner, and great-granddaughter Pacey Stephenson.Special thanks to the staff at The Pines of Hiawatha for the care provided to Lois the last 3 ½ years and NEK Hospice.Friends may sign register book at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha after 10 am Thursday.A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Ann Church, Hiawatha, Kansas officiated by Father Dan Gardner on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 10 am. &nbsp;A rosary will be recited on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 6:30 pm at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home followed by a family visitation. &nbsp;Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.&nbsp;Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Ann Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s Association sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 S. 7th St., Hiawatha, KS &nbsp;66434.A special message may be left with the family at www.chapeloaksfuneralhome.com.<figure>

Edward Eugene “Eddie” Young was born in Mound City on February 19, 1932. He was the oldest of five sons born to Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Christian) Young.

Eddie served overseas in the United States Navy during the Korean War. During his service years he married Verna Rebel in Mound City on April 5, 1953. They celebrated their 70th anniversary last year.&nbsp;

Following Eddie’s service, the Youngs returned to Holt County where Eddie farmed. They became parents of four children.

Eddie passed away at Tiffany Heights in Mound City on Monday, February 26, 2024.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Byron Young and Kenneth Young; and great-granddaughter, Sadie Young.
