Eva Lucille Boswell 1929 - 2025

Eva Lucille Zachary Boswell passed away February 22, 2025 peacefully at Tiffany Heights nursing home in Mound City, MO. She was 96 years old.

Born January 9, 1929 on the family farm in Maitland, MO, she was the eighth of nine children of Oye and Elsie (Prussman) Bowland. She was a lifelong resident of Holt County, MO and was a graduate of Mound City High School. 

She married Robert Willis Zachary on November 3rd, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 15th, 1985. She then married Wayne Delos Boswell on February 14, 1990. He preceded her in death on May 4th, 2009.

Lucille was a farmers wife, working in the fields right along with her husband Willis. She was an avid gardener, especially with flowers. She was a Garden Club member for almost 70 years. She was well-known for her irises and daylilies. She received the State Gardener Award of Honor in 2009 from Federated Gardeners of Missouri. This award led to having a beautiful daylily named after her, the Lucille Boswell. She was a member of the CrossPointe Community Church in St. Joseph, MO.

She started going to Texas for the winter in 1973 with her husband and continued this tradition for 42 years. She and Wayne loved to travel and her favorite trips were to Alaska and Israel, where she was baptized in the Jordan River.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her siblings, Alice Baxter, Lee Bowland, Lorene Davison, Maurice Bowland, Glen Bowland, Lynn Bowland, and Donna Mae Heck; her husbands, Robert Willis Zachary and Wayne Boswell; a sister-in-law, Helen Thiesfield; brothers-in-law, Richard Zachary, Paul Zachary, and Milan Boswell; stepson, Lyle Boswell; and great grandson, Reed Zachary Geib.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Geib; brother, Kenneth Bowland; grandchildren, Carrie (Ken) Thom, Kyle (Marcia) Geib, Camille (Chris) Lucito; great grandchildren, Willis and Caden Wilson, Cole, Jake, Luke and Lane Lucito, and Landon and Ann Geib; brother-in-law, Ralph Zachary; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Boyle, Kit Zachary and Myrt Dunigan; stepdaughters, Teresa (Wayne) McGinness and Angie (Richard) White; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: Friday, February 28, 2025, with visitation starting at 10:00 am and services starting at 11:00 am, at the CrossPointe Church, 2501 S. Belt Highway, St. Joseph, MO 64503. Interment: Mount Hope Cemetery.
