H. Ross Woodbury, 90, Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024.

He was born April 24, 1934, in Saint Joseph, Missouri to Herbert and Vera (Lamb) Woodbury.

Ross graduated from Central High School and from the University of Kansas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Entomology. Ross dedicated many years to Woodbury Chemical and Woodbury Industries, contributing significantly to the company until his well-deserved retirement.

Family was an important part of Ross's life. He was a devoted father as well as a grandfather. Ross was also a proud great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren.

Ross's commitment to his faith and community was evident through his longstanding membership at Wyatt Park Christian Church, where he formed many lasting friendships.

A celebrated figure in the St. Joseph business community, Ross led by example as the President of the St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce and demonstrated exceptional dedication as the Chairman of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee for many years. His visionary approach and tireless efforts were recognized when he was honored with the Governor Teasdale Award for his outstanding contributions toward the economic growth and prosperity of St. Joseph.

Throughout his career, Ross held numerous notable positions, including President of the Industrial Development Authority of St. Joseph, and he proudly served on the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph Belt Railway Company during its merger with Missouri Pacific Railroad. His leadership extended into various civic roles, such as President of Rotary Club #32, where he also served as a District Representative to Rotary International and was lauded as a Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Fellow.

Beyond the business realm, Ross was passionate about education and athletics, demonstrating his leadership as the Chairman of Citizens for Quality Education and as President of the Missouri Western Alumni Association. He was instrumental in chairing the renowned Bronco Baseball World Series, providing lasting memories and opportunities for the youth around the world.

He was passionate about the game of tennis. He played the game for 50 years and was a USTA certified umpire, umpiring tournaments at the professional level throughout the United States. He was also a wonderful piano player. He played throughout his lifetime and many people were fortunate to enjoy his music.

Ross Woodbury lived a life full of purpose and joy, touching the lives of those around him in profound ways. Ross's memory will be treasured forever by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Woodbury; his parents; and his son-in-law Robert Dodson.

Survivors include his children, Mark Woodbury (Karen), Cole Woodbury (Ingrid), and Traci Dodson; grandchildren, Robbie Dodson (Lindzy), Luke Dodson (Sarah), Kylie Dowell (Jason), Ross Woodbury (Amy), Nick Woodbury (Ryan Coleman), Alex Woodbury (Jordan Wallace), and Bailey Woodbury; great-grandchildren, Elliot Dodson, Joey Dodson, Avery Dowell, Owen Dowell, Archer Woodbury, Skyler Laun, Maddox Wallace, and Jamison Wallace; and his brother Reid Woodbury.

H. Ross Woodbury 1934 - 2024

Sierra Elaine White, 76, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away Monday, November 11, 2024. She was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri, on December 1, 1947 to William Chester and Frances May (Sharp) McBee.

Sierra married William "Bill" Joseph White, on July 23, 1964.

A Lafayette Highschool graduate of 1966, Sierra embraced a life of dedication and care as a homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home for all who entered.

Sierra found solace in her faith as a member of Eastside Baptist Church and then later Green Valley Baptist Church. Her faith was evident through her active participation in numerous church activities. She was also a remarkable seamstress, with the ability to sew anything from a simple stitch to intricate designs.

Gardening and flower arranging were among Sierra's favorite pastimes, bringing beauty to both her home and her community. Her generous spirit led her to volunteer at local schools, ensuring a positive impact on future generations. She was also an avid Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed listening to Vince Gill as well.

Sierra is survived by her husband, Bill; two sons, Jeffrey William White and Jacob Joseph White (Cassie); grandchildren, Zachary White and Abygale Marsh (Chase); sisters, Barbara Baker and Wanda Howk.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Chester and Frances May (Sharp) McBee. Though her stepmother, Hattie McBee, raised her from a young age, Sierra's nurturing nature was a reflection of the love she received and gave throughout her life.

Raymond Paul “Butchie” Atkins, 87, Albany, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024.

He was born April 10, 1937 in St. Joseph to Derrell and Anna (McCubbin) Atkins.

He was a production worker at the Opportunity Workshop in Stanberry, Missouri, for many years.

Butchie was a very happy person who loved his family, especially the kids and their pets.

Butchie enjoyed watching movies, “Bonanza” and cartoons. He also found great comfort and enjoyment in his impressive stuffed animal collection.

The family would like to thank TLC Care Center for their loving care of Butchie, especially Kim and Danielle.

Butchie was very special to our family and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Judith Ann Atkins; and sister, Dixie Landers.

Rex Gaylord Pryor, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024.

He was born November 29, 1931 in Fillmore, Missouri to Joseph and Lona (Burns) Pryor.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Rex married Fredia May Bauman on March 3, 1956. She survives of the home.

He was a truck driver for Crouch Brothers before starting his own business. Rex was a finesse heavy equipment operator and truck driver.

Rex enjoyed a good game of Pitch, but what he enjoyed even more was using his ornery sense of humor to tease people — whether it was family or complete strangers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Joe Pryor and Bobby Brent Pryor; sister, Dora Elizabeth Ramsey; and son-in-law, Dave Pickett.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 69 years, Fredia; children, Vickie Pryor-Pickett, Bill Pryor, and Dee Pryor-Wolfram (Bruce Steltenpohl); grandchildren, Lauren Berry (Deric), Casey Taylor (Preston), Kyle Kotche (Clarisa), Samantha Wolfram, and Lindsey Steltenpohl; nine great-grandchildren; numerous other extended family members and friends.

Rex Gaylord Pryor 1931 -  2024

Calvin Lee Starke, 70, received his angel wings on the evening of Thursday, November 7th, 2024 surrounded by his family and a room full of angels anxiously waiting to take him home.

Calvin, affectionately referred to as "Ole Cal" by all that knew him, was born on April 22nd, 1954, in St. Joseph, Missouri and resided there until the time of his passing. He graduated from Benton High School in 1972 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he became a member of the color guard and served his country proudly. He married his high school sweetheart, Jeanette Ezzell, in the fall of 1974 and they spent 23 wonderful years together and remained lifelong friends after separating in 1997. They had 3 beautiful girls during that time-Tiffany, Melissa, and Elizabeth, their pride and joy.

Cal was a diehard Chiefs fan, lover of classic rock, and an avid collector of eagles and patriotic memorabilia. He was often the life of the party-and was always ready to sip on a Bacardi and Coke, dance, sing, and have a good time. He was a great friend to many, and when you were around Ole Cal, there was no such thing as a stranger.

Cal was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Beverly Starke, his brother, Paul Starke, and his daughter, Melissa Throckmorton. He is survived by his former wife, Jeanette Starke, daughters, Tiffany Starke and Elizabeth (Joshua) Hamilton, sister, Lisa (Michael) Warren, brother, Darrin Starke, grandchildren, Emily Bowman, Haley McKee, Noah Throckmorton, Kendal Starke, Kaiden Throckmorton, Evelyn Hamilton, great-grandchild Liam Shores and 2 new grand babies, a grandson and great-granddaughter due in December 2024.

Ole Cal was one of a kind and will be missed by many. It is our hope that his spunk and spirit will continue to live on through those that loved him so deeply and that his light will always shine. He is finally as free as a bird now and that bird you cannot change. May his memory be eternal.

Calvin Lee Starke 1954 - 2024

Ernest Leroy Frye, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024.

He was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin to Hallie and Cynthia Frye.

Ernie had 5 siblings, Harold Frye, deceased, wife Ester also deceased Helena Frye, deceased, husband Junior also deceased, Lyle Frye, deceased, wife Merle who is also deceased Ruby (Frye) Wiggler, her husband Carl Wiggler deceased and his little brother, Gene Frye and his wife Pat

Ernie and his two brothers, Lyle and Gene moved with their parents to Berryville, Arkansas in 1947.

Ernie attended the Berryville High School where he lettered in football playing on a football team consisting of only 6 players. He also lettered in Basketball.

In 1950 Ernie and his best buddy, Ernie Krawcyk both 16 years of age, joined the Army without their parent's knowledge. His mother learned of this, knowing you had to be 16, contacted the recruiter who released him from the enlistment. Later he received notice he was to report for the Korean War. He did not have to report for war as he had two children. Ernie did receive an honorable discharge from the Army.

Ernie attended and graduated from Pickett High school where he met his high school sweetheart, Dee Inman. Both he and Dee graduated together from Pickett. Ernie continued playing sports for Pickett and lettered in basketball and 6 man football.

Dee and Ernie were married in St. Joseph, MO in 1952 and soon moved to Rawlins, WY, where Dee began her career as a bookkeeper for the Wyoming Dairy.

Ernie and Dee have two children Mark Alan Frye, Wife Jodie (McMurray) Frye and Paula Joan (Frye)McGee and Husband Bob McGee. Both children were born in Rawlins, WY.

Ernie became a Game Warden and a Big Game Hunting Guide in Rawlins. Ernie loved hunting almost as much as he loved his wife Dee! He so enjoyed camping and hiking in the mountains of Wyoming and

While in Wyoming, Ernie worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.

In 1960, Ernie and Dee moved to St. Joseph, MO where Ernie bought and opened his Champlain Service Station which he kept for 10 years. Ernie employed and helped so many people through the Station and became a mentor to so many. He later became a realtor and an Election judge (for 12 years) until he fully retired.

Ernie and his wife Dee were members of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church for many years where they enjoyed the honor of being greeters for the church for 12 years. Ernie was a Christian and his church and Jesus were held close in his heart.

Ernie was a longtime member of the Shriners at Moila where he and Dee spent so much time and enjoyed the company of so many. He was a member of the Oltimers for many years. Ernie had a couple of cars, a 1941 Chevy Master Deluxe and a 1964 Buick Skylark that were paraded in the many parades with the Oltimers Unit.

Ernie was a member of the Legion of Honor, High Twelve and Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite. Ernie respected and was dedicated to the commitment of being a member to these organizations.

Ernie spent so much time teaching and coaching his children in sports. He coached his son's baseball and basketball teams. He was forever cheering at track meets and softball games statewide with his daughter.

Later, Ernie continued to love fishing with Dee and teaching and hunting with his son Mark, his grandsons Clay and Jake and his great grandson Henry.

In his retirement, Ernie spent time enjoying his many hobbies. Golfing with his buddies at Moila and in the South. Traveling with Dee. He loved buying and repairing antique fishing reels. He loved shopping for and collecting antique fishing lures. He was an avid coin collector.

Additionally, Ernie love watching football, baseball and college basketball with Dee.

Most of all Ernie prided himself on being the best husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and mentor to others. His family believes he succeeded!

Dee was the love of his life and they enjoyed every day together. They could talk endlessly with one another and laugh at themselves and each other.

Ernie was also preceded in death by granddaughter, Amanda Frye.

Ernest Leroy Frye, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024.He was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin to Hallie and Cynthia Frye.Ernie had 5 siblings, Harold Frye, deceased, wife Ester also deceased Helena Frye, deceased, husband Junior also deceased, Lyle Frye, deceased, wife Merle who is also deceased Ruby (Frye) Wiggler, her husband Carl Wiggler deceased and his little brother, Gene Frye and his wife PatErnie and his two brothers, Lyle and Gene moved with their parents to Berryville, Arkansas in 1947.Ernie attended the Berryville High School where he lettered in football playing on a football team consisting of only 6 players. He also lettered in Basketball.In 1950 Ernie and his best buddy, Ernie Krawcyk both 16 years of age, joined the Army without their parent's knowledge. His mother learned of this, knowing you had to be 16, contacted the recruiter who released him from the enlistment. Later he received notice he was to report for the Korean War. He did not have to report for war as he had two children. Ernie did receive an honorable discharge from the Army.Ernie attended and graduated from Pickett High school where he met his high school sweetheart, Dee Inman. Both he and Dee graduated together from Pickett. Ernie continued playing sports for Pickett and lettered in basketball and 6 man football.Dee and Ernie were married in St. Joseph, MO in 1952 and soon moved to Rawlins, WY, where Dee began her career as a bookkeeper for the Wyoming Dairy.Ernie and Dee have two children Mark Alan Frye, Wife Jodie (McMurray) Frye and Paula Joan (Frye)McGee and Husband Bob McGee. Both children were born in Rawlins, WY.Ernie became a Game Warden and a Big Game Hunting Guide in Rawlins. Ernie loved hunting almost as much as he loved his wife Dee! He so enjoyed camping and hiking in the mountains of Wyoming andWhile in Wyoming, Ernie worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.In 1960, Ernie and Dee moved to St. Joseph, MO where Ernie bought and opened his Champlain Service Station which he kept for 10 years. Ernie employed and helped so many people through the Station and became a mentor to so many. He later became a realtor and an Election judge (for 12 years) until he fully retired.Ernie and his wife Dee were members of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church for many years where they enjoyed the honor of being greeters for the church for 12 years. Ernie was a Christian and his church and Jesus were held close in his heart.Ernie was a longtime member of the Shriners at Moila where he and Dee spent so much time and enjoyed the company of so many. He was a member of the Oltimers for many years. Ernie had a couple of cars, a 1941 Chevy Master Deluxe and a 1964 Buick Skylark that were paraded in the many parades with the Oltimers Unit.Ernie was a member of the Legion of Honor, High Twelve and Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite. Ernie respected and was dedicated to the commitment of being a member to these organizations.Ernie spent so much time teaching and coaching his children in sports. He coached his son's baseball and basketball teams. He was forever cheering at track meets and softball games statewide with his daughter.Later, Ernie continued to love fishing with Dee and teaching and hunting with his son Mark, his grandsons Clay and Jake and his great grandson Henry.In his retirement, Ernie spent time enjoying his many hobbies. Hilton Dale Sander, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024.

Hilton was born to the marital union of Willard and Marjorie (Theis) Sander.

He graduated from Central High School in 1966 and from Northwest Missouri State University in 1970. After retiring from Quaker Oats, Hilton volunteered for the Habitat for Humanity Organization.

Hilton was a member of Clair United Methodist Church. He also coached baseball, softball, basketball, and soccer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles, and a niece.

He is survived by brother, Rodney Sander (Joy), daughter, Brandi Lutz (Parrish), son, Brett Sander, grandsons, Carson Lutz (Jazmyn), Camden Lutz (Hunter) and great grandson, Miles Weston-Lutz.

She was born on September 2, 1955, in Seattle, Washington, to Ruby Sleutty.

Janet dedicated 30 years of her life as an administrative professional in the automotive industry, where her humor and efficiency made her a beloved colleague. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Scott Payton, and her cherished children, Jason Perfect, Andy Coons, and Mark Perfect. Janet's presence was a source of joy and comfort to her family, and her absence will be deeply felt.

Elaine C. Guenther, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

She was born May 11, 1933 to William H. and Clara G. (Hansen) Musgrove in St. Joseph, Missouri.

She graduated from Central High School as class valedictorian in 1951 and received a four-year scholarship to Barnard College, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. While a student in New York City, she had the honor of performing in Carnegie Hall as a member of the Columbia University Chorus.

Elaine married William Henry Guenther on January 2, 1955 and was married 63 years before he passed away on February 21, 2018. They co-owned Artcrafts Engraving Company for over 60 years. Together, Elaine and Bill guided Artcrafts through decades of technological change in the photoengraving industry, while also raising three children and being an active part of their community and church.

Her life was one of service, leadership and devotion to her Lord and her family. Elaine was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, and more recently St. Peter Lutheran Church. She was a member of the First Lutheran Chancel Choir, St. Joseph School Board, Council of Churches, Opera Guild Board, United Church Women, Buchanan County Certification Board, Heartland Hospital Auxiliary, Mayor's Citizens for Jobs Task Force, Republican Committeewoman for the 2nd ward and delegate to the Missouri Republican convention.

Elaine served as President of several St. Joseph organizations including the United Way Christmas Bureau, League of Women Voters, Edison School PTA, Economic Opportunity Organization Board, Historical Society, Mensa, State Hospital Auxiliary and Artcrafts Engraving Company.

Her honors and awards included Junior Chamber of Commerce Young Woman of the Year, Office of Economic Opportunity Urban Service award, YWCA Outstanding Woman Leader, and volunteer citations from the National Association of Mental Health, Methodist Medical Center, and St. Joseph State Hospital.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include her children, Glen Guenther (Karen) of St. Charles, MO, Ann Guenther Sherman of Long Grove, IL, and Max Guenther (Tammy) of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Chandra, Chris, Nathaniel, and Nikki; great-grandchildren, Persephone, Jacob, Skyla, and Penton; sister, Karen Young; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Carrie Gilmore (Pat) and Scott Young (Gina) of St. Joseph, MO.

She was a graduate of Plattsburg High School Class of 1999. She worked as a housekeeper for the healthcare facility in Gower Missouri. &nbsp;

Louise Irene (Sanderson) Merritt born July 2nd 1930 in Lyndon Kansas passed away at approximately 7pm on November 7th, 2024 at New Mark Care Center. She was the daughter of Cam Austin Sanderson and Mary Estella (Woods) Sanderson both of Lyndon Kansas.

Louise resided in Weston Missouri at the home she and her husband Robert Lee Merritt built on their farm. Louise was a stay at home mother and worked part time at the Weston Information Center and that was work that she loved. She also enjoyed trips to Branson and Las Vegas with her husband Robert. Louise was a patient and kind person and loved her family above all. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Robert Lee Merritt, her son Jim Mettler of Lawson Missouri, and her daughter Anita Walters of Grain Valley. 

Louise leaves behind 2 sons, John (Jonica) Merritt and Mark (Karri) Merritt, son-in-law David Walters, grandchildren Denise (Nathan) Akridge, Danny Nevins, Carson Merritt, Vincent Merritt, Catherine Merritt, Kayla (Brandon) Allee, Charley Lincoln and 2 great grandchildren Scott Overfield and Lexi (Kerns Fortuna) Overfield.

Louise will be missed by all of her family and friends but we are happy that she is no longer suffering.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 11 at 10am at the Vaughn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11am followed by burial at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Weston, MO. James Michael Layden, 64, of Smithville, MO passed away November 9, 2024.

He was born on December 27, 1959, to James E. and Mary Lou (Weik) Layden in Independence, MO where he grew up and graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, MO.

On November 24, 1989, he was united in marriage to Patricia Jean Lash. They enjoyed living in the Cass County area for many years.

Jim was a glazier by trade and eventually purchased and ran two successful glass shops in the Kansas City area. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, golfing, shooting pool and being with his friends. Most of all, Jim was an amazing family man and loved being a husband and dad and was a proud Papa.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Mary Lou Layden.

Jim is survived by his wife Patty Layden; children Jeremy (Ashley) Layden, Jonathon (Carlotta) Layden, Jeffery (Brandon Magee) Clouse, and Jennifer (Gary) Panethiere; six grandchildren Trevor, Brook, Cole, Penelope, Charlotte, and Jonathon; sisters Beverly Shephard and Debbie Layden; and many relatives and friends.

Patricia “Pat” Hartman, 76, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Friday, November 8, 2024, at The Willow in Wathena, Kansas.

Pat was born on November 8,1948, in Princeton, Missouri to Harley and Amber (Haley) Stiles.

She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. &nbsp;Pat graduated from Princeton High School in 1966, and finished up her Beautician schooling in St. Joseph, Missouri. She worked for Sara Lee in St. Joseph for 14 years. She also worked for Fleek’s Fruit Market in Blair, Kansas, and was the CEO for Hartman Farms.

Pat married Milton Hartman Jr. on August 28, 1971, in Wathena, Kansas. He survives of the home. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ed Stiles.

Survivors, husband, Jr Hartman, children, Robbin Guy (Mike), Jeff Hartman (Katie), Joe Hartman (Amy), and Sheryl McVey (BJ). 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Sisters, Harlene Dugan and Gayle Coon. Brother, Greg Reger. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will have a Celebration of Life 2-4 P.M. November 17, 2024 at the VFW in Wathena, Kansas.

Larry B. Jacobson, 81, of Cummings, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024, in St. Joseph, Missouri.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30AM on Tuesday November 12, 2024, at Old Huron Cemetery, Lancaster, Kansas with Pastor Jim Cormode officiating. Larry was born on November 19, 1942, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Harold and Ruthanna (Wood) Jacobson. After graduating from Atchison County Community High School in 1960, Larry joined the Army National Guard and also began working at LFM Foundry in Atchison. He continued working as a mechanic/assemblyman for Kenworth Truck Company in Kansas City. After 30+ years in this industry, he decided to go into business for himself. He owned and operated Larry’s Sac Ice in Atchison, Kansas until his retirement. For 14 years, he was known as the Ice Man and delivered bags of ice to many merchants in the Atchison and Brown County areas. His children and grandchildren have grand memories of riding in the ice truck and making ice deliveries.

He married Marilyn Wehking on August 25, 1962, and then began a journey of raising a family and creating a lifetime of memories. In 1980, Larry gave his life to Jesus and began walking a path of righteousness and piety. His love for Jesus was evident to all who knew him and to those who only saw him from a distance. In his later years, he spent many hours reading the Bible and praying for his family. He was a member of Word of Life Church in St. Joseph, Missouri and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lancaster, KS. Throughout his life he was an avid bowler and loved to go hunting and fishing in his spare time.

Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn, of the home, children Lori (JJ) Lincoln, O’Fallon, MO, David (Cheryl) Jacobson, Nortonville, KS, Karen (Tony) Jones, Atchison, KS, and Rick (DeeDee) Jacobson, Atchison, KS. He’s also survived by his brother Gary (Barbara) Jacobson, grandchildren Cheyenne (Larry) Lawson, Sierra (Cameron) Wiss, Colby (Crystal) Jacobson, Tyler (Bethany) Jacobson, Cody (Sarah) Ball, Kyle Ball, Morgan (Lance) Helm, Ashley (Michael) Lemmons and Jacey Jacobson. Sherrilyn "Sherry" Jeanne Miller, 77, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024 at her home. Sherry was born August 13, 1947 in St. Joseph, daughter, Peggy (Burton) and Robert Rucker. 

She married Jimmie "J.D." Miller, who preceded her in death. Sherry spent many of her years as a homemaker, and later worked as a CNA in area nursing homes. She enjoyed traveling and taking motorcycle rides, dancing, and the KC Chiefs. She also loved her family and her dogs. She was a member of Freedom of Road Riders. 

Sherry was preceded in death by her late husband, Jimmie "J.D." Miller, mother and step-father Peggy and Richard Tolbert, father, Robert Rucker, and her sister, Jeanette Ashford. 

Survivors include: companion, Steve Allen of the home, sons, Deon Scott Bonham of St. Joseph, Shawn Hayden (Jeanne) Bonham of Rae, MO, and Ronald Travis (Julie Kay) Stafford of Osborn, MO, her grandchildren and spouses, Michael (Jen,) Jennifer (Tamara,) Hayden, Keith (Kristin,) and Melissa (Dustin,) nephews, Mark (Tina) Holub and Ben (Danielle) Ashford, and several great-grandchildren, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Michael Wayne Carrico 78, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024 in St. Joseph, MO. He was born July 9, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN, son of the late, June and George Carrico.

 He graduated from Kissimme, Florida Osceola High School, and enlisted in Navy. He married Valerie Strader on April 15, 1989, and they shared 35 wonderful years together. He served in the Navy for 26 years as a Chief Boatswain Mate. Michael enjoyed playing in golf tournaments, supporting his grandkids, and motorcycles. He was a member of the VFW, and very active in his church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Gene Allen Staggs, 85, of Agency, Missouri passed away &nbsp;Friday, November 8, 2024 at his home. He was born October 14, 1939 in Agency, MO, son of Ora Bell and Roy Staggs. 

He graduated from Faucett High School, class of 1957. On June 5, 1959 he married Genevive Underwood at Agency Christian Church. Gene worked most of his life on the family farm and drove a truck for many years as an owner/operator and for Johnson Controls. He was a member of the Local Teamsters Union. Gene enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, gardening and camping. He was a friend to many, he enjoyed staying busy and helping others. He served on the Agency Town Board and was a Past Mayor of Agency. He also served on the Agency Fire Department and &nbsp;member of Agency Christian Church.

 Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Glen Staggs, and grandson, Chris Dreier. 

Survivors include wife of 65 years, Genevive Ruth Staggs of the home, children, Kenneth (Carlene) Staggs of St. Joseph, James (Donna) Staggs of Agency, Debbie Kleppes of Agency and Donna Staggs (Neil Reynolds) of Smithville, MO, sister, Karen (Larry) Schlup of Agency, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Ellen Rumpf of Faucett, MO, several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.

Tom L Fanning, 63, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2024.

Tom was born February 24, 1961, in St. Joseph Mo to Janice and Norman Fanning. He attended Blair Elementary, Truman Middle School, and Central High School. Tom was the proud owner of Tom Fanning trash service and was loved and respected by his customers. Tom greeted everyone he met with a warm smile, a tall tale, and a good joke.

“We sure are going to miss Tom. Super nice guy and even better at his job! Every pet on his route is really going to miss him! Our dog would hear him coming and be waiting for Tom to throw down a handful of Milk Bones!” - Deanna Bryson-Musser (Facebook).&nbsp;

Tom was a big sports fan and lifelong collector of baseball cards and rare coins. Tom was a regular contributor to the KFEQ Hotline with host Barry Birr. Tom enjoyed playing and coaching softball, bowling, playing cards and traveling to southern Missouri. Tom enjoyed doing volunteer work throughout St. Joseph. Tom was also an avid lover of cats and dogs.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Janice Fanning and Norman Fanning, older brother Jack Fanning and brother-in-law Jesse Kerns, and several aunts and uncles. Tom is survived by his sister Cathie and Rick Nocks, sister Terry Kernes, brother Michael and Stacey Fanning, Sister Linda and Ronald Tyler, sister-in-law Susan Fanning, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Norman Leroy Conner, age 81, of Plattsburg, MO passed away unexpectedly at Mosaic in St. Joseph, MO on Sunday, November 10, 2024. We wish to thank Mosaic for the care shown to us in the ER. Though our hearts ache, we know he is at peace.

Leroy was born to Norman William and Kathleen Elizabeth (Keller) Conner on September 25, 1943. They both preceded him in death. He was raised in Easton, MO and graduated from Easton High School in 1961. He attended junior college and was in the Army National Guard and Lions Club as a young adult. &nbsp;

He married Janet Ruth (Rehm) on April 21, 1967 in Craig, MO and they were married over 56 years before she passed on December 26, 2023. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at the Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities throughout the years.&nbsp;

Leroy was a caring dad, grandpa, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. He is best known for his sense of humor, humble helpfulness, and strong work ethic. We were blessed by his lessons and will cherish many fond memories!&nbsp;

He supported his family by working in the grain milling industry where he became assistant manager for Krause Milling in St. Joseph. He moved his growing family from Easton to St. Joseph in 1974 so the girls could attend school in the Savannah District. In 1978, the arrival of their son completed the family. He could be found coaching sports or leading scouts in his free time. When his company sold to ADM, he moved to Plainview, Texas for 5 years where Chris attended high school. He would relocate to the Martha Gooch plant in Lincoln, NE and retire at 62 years old after having heart surgery. He and Janet then moved to Lake Concord in retirement and enjoyed the grandkids and many celebrations at their home in Plattsburg. He became very involved with the Senior Center, fishing in his backyard, and enjoyed Bingo twice a week.&nbsp;

Family time involved camping, playing cards, celebrations, cookouts, fishing, hunting, square dancing, traveling, etc. &nbsp;He has been to all 50 states, several other countries, and on 10 cruises with Janet, including the entire family to the Hawaiian Islands.&nbsp;

He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Arnold and Melinda (Knoche) Rehm; brother-in-law, Ron Rehm; brother-in-law, Willis Deering; uncles, James ‘Bud’ Keller and Robert ‘Bob’ Keller. He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Shawna and Mark Macrander of St. Joseph and their children- Josiah, Delaney, Cassidy, and Kelsey Macrander; Angie Conner of Plattsburg and her sons- Conner and Devon Wilcox; and Chris Conner of St. Joseph and his daughters- Brooke and Teagan Conner. He is also survived by his brother, Darell and wife Sylvia Conner of Plattsburg; sister-in-law Carol and husband Billy Paul Sharp of Mound City, MO; brother-in-law, Ken and wife Barb Rehm of Florida; sister-in-law Lois Deering of Fillmore; sister-in-law Janice Rehm of Easton; and brother-in-law Bill and wife Connie Rehm of Savannah. The family will hold visitation on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Heaton Bowman Smith Sidenfaden Funeral Home on Frederick Avenue in St. Joseph, MO. &nbsp;Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.<figure>

Norman Leroy Conner 1943 - 2024

Winona Christensen, 91, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away at her home on November 7th, 2024 following a lengthy illness. Winona was born May 22nd, 1933, in Fortescue, Missouri to parents Alton and Beulah Hinkle. 

Winona graduated from Craig High School in the class of 1951, and went on to the Missouri Methodist School of Nursing where she obtained her Registered Nurse License in 1954. Winona met her husband Laurel Christensen and they were married in October 3, 1954 in St. Joseph, MO. 

Winona was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, and brother Wendell Hinkle.

Winona is survived by her two children, Brooks Christensen, (Carmen), of Humble, TX and Charlotte Mitchell, (David), of Willard, MO, two grandchildren, John Mitchell (Jaci) of Bella Vista, AR, and Molly Grellner (Garrett), of Springfield, MO, and sister-in-law, Virginia Hinkle of St. Joseph, MO. A memorial service will be under the auspices of Heaton-Bowman-Smith-Sidenfaden Chapel and will be announced at a later date with inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri.<figure>
