Charlotte Lynn (Swartz) Rhodes passed away peacefully on November 6th, 2023. She was born December 28th, 1955 in Kansas City, KS, daughter to Charlene Swartz and the late Johnny Swartz. Charlotte moved to St. Joseph, MO in the 5th grade. Charlotte graduated from Benton High School in 1974 and married Denny Rhodes on July 26th, 1975. She worked as a Pharmacy Technician for over 30 years at K-Mart, Cub Foods and Heartland Hospital. She enjoyed going to the casino, loved helping others, couldn’t tell a person no, but nothing brought her more joy than being a mother, and a grandmother. Her family was the world to her, but now she is reunited with her best friend, her late husband Denny Rhodes. 

Charlotte is preceded in death by: her husband Denny, father Johnny Swartz; mother and father-in-law’s Joye &amp; Bob Rhodes, and sister-in-law Randi Rhodes. Survivors include sons Danny (Emily Peters) of Southington CT, son Dusty Rhodes of Kansas City, MO; mother Charlene Swartz of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren Lucas Rhodes, Benny &amp; Julia Swift; sisters Sue (Chuck Debenito), Terry Swartz; brother Dave Swartz; brother-in-law Fred Banker; sisters in law Jana Cook, Darla (Jim Hunt); and several nieces and nephews. Rose B. (Johnson) White, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri; went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Rose was born on August 8, 1943, in Topeka, Kansas, to the late James and Virna (Roberts) Johnson.

Rose married Richard A. "Dick" White, Sr. on June 30, 1962, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Together they raised their children and celebrated thirty-six years of marriage, until Dick preceded her in death on July 17, 1998.

Rose was a devoted wife and homemaker, and made many friends through her twenty-five years of bartending.

Rose was a Christian and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. &nbsp;She loved to play Bingo and cards and provided endless love and care to her children, grandchildren and pets.

In addition to her husband and parents, Rose was preceded in death by her step-son, Richard White, Jr.; two sons-in-law, Patrick Dunlap and Leon Rauch; four brothers, Ed, Roy, Ralph and Otis Johnson; three sisters, Dolly Johnson, Thelma Goin and Roxie Murphy, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Gregory (Donald), Clarksdale, MO and Rose Dunlap, Easton, MO; two grandchildren, D.J. Gregory (Jessica), and Kelsey Dunlap; great-granddaughter, Hailey Ames (Clinton); step-grandchildren, Kenny Rauch, Penny Wheeler and Richard White III; beloved pets, Holly and Pepper, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Buck Holmes, 73, Clarksdale, Missouri, previously of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

He was born on October 15, 1950, to Harry J. and Mildred L. (Hood) Holmes in Emporia, Kansas.

He was a member of the United States Army. Buck enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was mowing or riding his side-by-side. He will be lovingly remembered for his great sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Eleanor Stanton.

Survivors include his children, Jennifer Holmes and Eric Holmes; grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony, Brianna, Drayden and Erica; and siblings, John Holmes, Katherine Stutesman, Mary Fuhs, Jack Holmes and Carol Lingo.

Sharon Kay Dean died peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023, in St. Joseph, MO at the age of 57. Sharon was born December 9, 1965, to Phyllis L. (Porter) Dean and Charles “Glen” Dean, who have both preceded her in death. Sharon fought the complications related to multiple chronic health conditions head on for many years. Sharon would often say, “In Sharon’s World, everything always turns out OK!”

She succumbed to the complications while being comforted in her final days by her sister, Susan L. Dean Robertson, of Parsons, KS, and her significant other, John Christofferson, of the home. She will also be dearly missed by her beloved bloodhound, Lord Louie, her nephew, Asher D. Robertson of Parsons, KS, and brother, Christopher (Wanita) Dean of St. Joseph.

Sharon was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph and attended Central High School. As a child, she demonstrated her fighting spirit by practicing and studying how to become the champion of the video game, Spelunker! The competition was fun, but it was her brother’s reaction that motivated her the most. Sharon worked in a variety of positions throughout her life. During her eight years at the Sugar Shack Bakery, Sharon enjoyed making her favorite sister a heavily-frosted long-john when she was visiting their hometown.

Sharon also worked at several convenience stores, but she spent nearly ten years at Imperial. She said she liked the variety of customers that came to the store. She also worked in direct care for adults with disabilities. It was during her three years at Walnut Woods that she met John.

Sharon lived a very nonjudgmental life and was the type of person who would do anything she could for someone in need. Sharon was an avid flower gardener. Sharon liked to share her love of flowers and gardening by sending photos of her masterpieces to others. She also enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. She’s reported to have made the absolute best burgers.

Sharon and John enjoyed a variety of activities in their many years together, but their mutual love of car racing is probably most notable. They both loved the thrill and excitement of the racing life, and they would each work additional shifts to have ‘extra’ money for their modified, dirt track race car. They also shared a special bond with animals, and they raised and loved many animals in their life together. Their current fur baby, Lord Louie, weighs 150 pounds and he is the king of their castle.

Sharon’s wishes were to have her remains cremated. There are no plans for a memorial service at this time.

Kathleen “Katie” J. (Leigh) Miller, 64, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023.&nbsp;

She was born April 17, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois to William and Helen Leigh. Katie grew up in Chicago, where she and her family enjoyed swimming, boating and competitive water skiing on Lake Michigan. She also played on a softball league team with her sisters.

Katie was co-owner of Spicer Floor Covering with her first husband for 20-plus years. They lived in lake houses in the Kansas City area, where they would enjoy boating and got involved in Scramble dirt bike racing. Katie also was part of a group that went on float trips. Her love of water activities also included having a hot tub for 35 years.

After her divorce, Katie met Daniel Miller at the paint store where he worked in Overland Park, Kansas. Daniel talked her into relocating to St. Joseph, and they eventually married on February 14, 2002.

Katie worked at Nebraska Furniture Mart, Joe’s Carpet in Kansas City, Eckard’s and Home Depot before changing careers. She was a CNA for about eight years, first at Saxton’s and LaVerna Village in St. Joseph, and then worked in home-health care. She made good friends wherever she worked, and the older folks trusted her for her age and wisdom.

She was very involved in Daniel’s military career and in Shriner activities, including Moila’s Legion of Honor and the annual circus. She proved to be an effective fundraiser.

After buying season tickets to the Chiefs games for her first husband, she ended up being a huge fan herself. She got the tickets in the divorce and continued attending games for many more years with Daniel.

Katie enjoyed hosting large family gatherings on holidays, and loved to decorate the house, especially for Halloween. She helped Daniel remodel and redecorate their house, and used her business savvy to help him with their rental units and bookkeeping.

Katie was liked and loved by many people and touched many lives through the years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Jannis Kay Sawyer,76, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care with her family by her side.&nbsp;

She was born on August 5, 1947, to Donald Lee and Margaret Jane (Cooksey) Sawyer in Trenton, Missouri.&nbsp;

A few years after her birth, the family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri. Jannis grew up in South St. Joseph with her family and continued to live in the house that her parents had purchased until passing away. Jannis was very proud of being known as a 238er and graduating from Benton High School in 1965.

Jannis’ first job after graduating was working at Whitaker Cable and she continued working there for some 20 years until they closed the doors. From there, she went to work for Sherwood Medical until the flood of 1993 which shut the plant down. Finishing her many years of hard work, her last employment was with Seitz Meat Packing Company, later called Hillshire Farms, until retiring in May of 2014.

Jannis was a very family-oriented person. Her bond with family was to make sure that her parents and all of her siblings were taken care of through sickness and that they were never in need of anything. Jannis was the caregiver for her oldest brother, Denver, before his passing in 1999. Jannis was also the caregiver for both of her parents before their passing.

She enjoyed the outdoors when she wasn’t helping others. Her passion was mowing her lawn, working in the garden and fishing when time permitted.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and older brother, Denver L. Sawyer.

Survivors include her siblings, Barbara A. Tillery (John), Ronald G. Sawyer (Linda), Arthur W. Sawyer (Stefania), Norman L. Sawyer (Shelly), Hugh B. Sawyer (Brenda), and Keith R. Sawyer (Debbie), along with 16 nieces, nephews, and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Jannis Kay Sawyer 1947 - 2023

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Eunice Evelyn Wilson, 100, passed away on November 2nd 2023 at her home of over 50 years in Platte City, Missouri. Evelyn’s great joy was family and friends, followed by gardening, canning, and cooking Sunday meals to share with others. She was generous with her spirit, her food, her money, and sometimes too generous with her opinions. She met each day with enthusiasm, staying engaged with current events, reading the newspaper daily. She was a lifelong Democrat, never missed the Platte County Fair, and was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Mizzou Tigers and the Chiefs, even in the lean years.&nbsp;

Throughout her life, Evelyn maintained a strong work ethic, a value instilled in her from a young age. Her grandmother, Lucie, would tell her “long fingernails are a sign of laziness.” She lived by such traditional values and passed them down to her children. After her death, a list of chores for her children was unsurprisingly found on the kitchen table where the family gathered every Sunday for meals such as pot roast, chicken and sweet potatoes, fried okra, gumbo, along with homemade pies and cakes.&nbsp;

Evelyn was born on June 24th, 1923, in Liberty, Missouri, where she lived through her high school years. Her father was a postman, a federal job which she credited with carrying the family through the Great Depression. At 16, she met her first husband, Mack Dillingham Myers, when he was attending William Jewell College. One of their early dates was to the first-run showing of Gone with the Wind at the Midland Theatre. Just before the outbreak of the Second World War, Mack joined the Marine Corps and was sent to San Diego, California. Upon finishing high school, Evelyn followed him to boot camp by hitching a ride with other westbound teens. She later wondered how her parents had ever allowed her to leave. She and Mack married there in 1942.&nbsp;

During the war, she worked as a diner carhop, finishing her shift at 2 A.M. and then often heading to wide-open Tijuana, Mexico with friends. Once Mack was deployed, she returned to Platte City and joined the war effort, carpooling to work at the Lake City Ammunition Plant. After the war, Mack remained stationed overseas and she lived with her in-laws, Sheriff Don Myers and his wife Thelma, in the residence above the jail in Platte City where she cooked meals for inmates.&nbsp;

Evelyn and Mack had three children but their marriage ended in 1962. As a newly single mother at age 39, she was and remained grateful to Dwight McDonnell for giving her a job at his hardware store for $1 an hour. With that and $25 in alimony, the family had next to nothing, but in other ways they had a whole lot of something in Evelyn who fed, clothed, and nurtured them into responsible adults. Her work at the hardware store led to a position at the Circuit Clerk’s office, where she worked for 30 years until her retirement in 1993.&nbsp;

She married Robert “Boney” Wilson in 1968, also a veteran of World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart for his service in the South Pacific. Together in 1969, they bought the home in Platte City from which they never moved. Evelyn and Robert enjoyed many weekends at Bean Lake and hosted frequent carp and catfish fries at their home for many friends and family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Elsie Moppin and Pryor Carpenter, of Liberty, Missouri and by her husbands Mack Dillingham Myers and Robert Wilson.&nbsp;

She is survived by her daughter Luann E. Myers, sons Carl Mack Myers M.D. (Jan Myers PH.D.), Keith Alan Myers (Kathy Myers), grandchildren, Katie Marie Sanghvi M.D., Brian Carl Myers, Cole Campbell Myers, and great-grandson, Mathis Olivier Myers-Souëf. Survivors also include nieces, Lonetta Schmollinger, Denise Wilson, Jessica Fisher and Leslie Williams.&nbsp;

When her children were young, Evelyn attended the Baptist Church and in later years the Platte City United Methodist Church. She donated to the City Union Mission, Harvesters, and various animal shelters.&nbsp;

Evelyn quietly gave up driving at 99, with her last year behind the wheel limited to short trips to have a beer with her dear friend Mary Calvert. She credited her ability to remain living at home to her daughter Luann’s daily care, and to frequent visits from her sons Carl and Keith. Upon her 100th birthday, when questioned if she was officially old, she chuckled and replied, “oh dear, I’m not old… I’m ancient!” Nevertheless, she still climbed the staircase at home, as usual, on her final night. Evelyn was truly an inspiration to us all. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered. Among her last words were a comment to Carl that she felt ready to go.&nbsp;

There will be a graveside service for family and close friends at 11 a.m. on November 18th 2023, at the Platte City Cemetery. All are welcome to attend the Celebration of Life reception from 1-3 p.m. at Barley &amp; Vine, 246 Main Street, Platte City, Missouri.

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Eunice Evelyn Wilson, 100, passed away on November 2nd 2023 at her home of over 50 years in Platte City, Missouri. Evelyn’s great joy was family and friends, followed by gardening, canning, and cooking Sunday meals to share with others. She was generous with her spirit, her food, her money, and sometimes too generous with her opinions. She met each day with enthusiasm, staying engaged with current events, reading the newspaper daily. She was a lifelong Democrat, never missed the Platte County Fair, and was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Mizzou Tigers and the Chiefs, even in the lean years.&nbsp;Throughout her life, Evelyn maintained a strong work ethic, a value instilled in her from a young age. Her grandmother, Lucie, would tell her “long fingernails are a sign of laziness.” She lived by such traditional values and passed them down to her children. After her death, a list of chores for her children was unsurprisingly found on the kitchen table where the family gathered every Sunday for meals such as pot roast, chicken and sweet potatoes, fried okra, gumbo, along with homemade pies and cakes.&nbsp;Evelyn was born on June 24th, 1923, in Liberty, Missouri, where she lived through her high school years. Her father was a postman, a federal job which she credited with carrying the family through the Great Depression. At 16, she met her first husband, Mack Dillingham Myers, when he was attending William Jewell College. One of their early dates was to the first-run showing of Gone with the Wind at the Midland Theatre. Just before the outbreak of the Second World War, Mack joined the Marine Corps and was sent to San Diego, California. Upon finishing high school, Evelyn followed him to boot camp by hitching a ride with other westbound teens. She later wondered how her parents had ever allowed her to leave. She and Mack married there in 1942.&nbsp;During the war, she worked as a diner carhop, finishing her shift at 2 A.M. and then often heading to wide-open Tijuana, Mexico with friends. Once Mack was deployed, she returned to Platte City and joined the war effort, carpooling to work at the Lake City Ammunition Plant. After the war, Mack remained stationed overseas and she lived with her in-laws, Sheriff Don Myers and his wife Thelma, in the residence above the jail in Platte City where she cooked meals for inmates.&nbsp;Evelyn and Mack had three children but their marriage ended in 1962. Terry Wayne McClung, 69 of Easton, MO passed away November 5, 2023.

He was born on October 14, 1954, to Robert William and Janice Mary (Butler) McClung in Salem, NJ. Terry grew up in Liberty, MO and in 1973 he graduated from Liberty High School. On April 10, 1976, he was united in marriage to Kathy Chambers. After their marriage they lived in Liberty and Kansas City and in 1987 they moved to rural Easton where they made their home.

Terry retired from A.M. Castle Metals in Kansas City after 40 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being outdoors and camping. Terry loved bluegrass/gospel music, watching the KC Chiefs and most of all spending time with his family.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his father Robert McClung and two sisters Mary McClung and Leslie McClung.

Terry is survived by his wife Kathy McClung; children Scott McClung and wife Kathy and Christine Swenson and husband Jeremy; grandchildren Breanne, Lauren, Noah and Liam; his mother Janice McClung; sisters Sharon Shuler and husband Barry, Robin Shaw and Maggie Miller and husband Herb; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Betty was born on April 27, 1941, in Troy, Kansas to Harold and Eleanor (Meers) Young. &nbsp;

She was a housewife of Dale Harness, who she married on November 26, 1976, in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 9, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Andrew Clary and brother, Carl Dean Young. &nbsp;

Survivors include, children, Kim Whitsell (Terry), and P.J. Wykert (Randy) both of Troy, Kansas. &nbsp;

Twila Janette Osborn, 63 of Savannah passed away Wednesday November 1st, 2023 at KU Medical center in Kansas City. &nbsp;She was born February 4th, 1960 to Carl Eugene &amp; Martha Darlene (George) Merritt. &nbsp;She married Wayne Vernon Osborn on July 28th, 1981 in Savannah, MO and he survives of the home. &nbsp;

Twila was the village mother. &nbsp;She loved sea turtles, picking up seashells, and watching the hummingbirds at the house. &nbsp; &nbsp;She enjoyed painting ceramic figurines, and fixing family dinners. &nbsp;She loved her dogs Minnie, Dexter, Sadie, Sophee and Chomper but mostly, she loved her family.

Survivors include her husband; children, Devon (Jeff) Verbick of Oregon, MO, Brittany Osborn of St. Jospeh, and Destinee Osborn of Savannah; grandchildren, Addalynn Aylsworth, Laynie Verbick, Dyllion Aylsworth, Olivia Verbick, Aubrie Pierce, and Zaylee Osborn; and brother, Tracy (Christine) Marritt of Rosendale. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Troy Merritt. &nbsp;

Stephen Ray Decker, 63, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023 at his home. He was born January 6, 1960 in St. Joseph, son of Lois and Charles Decker. Steve graduated from Benton High School, class of 1978. He previously co-owned Midwest Firearms, where he shared his love of outdoors and firearms, and made many new friends over the years. In 2001, he began his career at WRDCC as a Corrections Officer. Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing, traveling and spending time outdoors, most importantly spending time with his family. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gary Decker and Ronald Decker, nephew, Gary Decker Jr., niece, Kimberly George, and brother-in-law, Joseph Fry. June Marie Rock 93, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 at a local assisted living facility. She was born June 19, 1930 in Dauphin, PA, daughter of Mary and Glen Myers. In 1948 she graduated from Dillsburg High School in Dillsburg, PA, and in 1952 she graduated from York Nursing School. She then moved to St. Joseph and began her Nursing career. &nbsp;In 1954 while working at St. Joseph Hospital, she met George Rock, who she later married in 1955. June worked at several St. Joseph Hospitals, retiring in 1984 after 32 years. She later worked for 10 years at Allison's School of Dance. June was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Rock in 1984, and brothers, Tom and George Myers. June Marie Rock 93, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 at a local assisted living facility. She was born June 19, 1930 in Dauphin, PA, daughter of Mary and Glen Myers. In 1948 she graduated from Dillsburg High School in Dillsburg, PA, and in 1952 she graduated from York Nursing School. She then moved to St. Joseph and began her Nursing career. &nbsp;In 1954 while working at St. Joseph Hospital, she met George Rock, who she later married in 1955. June worked at several St. Joseph Hospitals, retiring in 1984 after 32 years. She later worked for 10 years at Allison's School of Dance. June was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Rock in 1984, and brothers, Tom and George Myers. Michael Wayne Ruark Jr. passed away at Mosaic Medical Center on November 4th at the age of 43. He was born on March 22, 1980 to his loving parents, Michael Ruark Sr and Edith Ruark.

Michael had the biggest heart and loved to make everyone around him laugh. He enjoying listening music, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. He absolutely loved his chosen career of driving truck. He couldn’t think of anything else he would rather do.

Michael’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who truly knew him. His memory will always be cherished by family and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his young son Keaton McLean-Ruark, his beloved grandparents Bernice Ebling, Lloyd Horn, William Schubert, Dorthy Ward, and Paul Ruark, his uncle Andrew Ruark and his aunts Cindy Strahm and Helen Hughey.

He was survived by his parents Michael Ruark, Sr. and Edith Ruark, his two sons Andrew Ruark-Layman, and Keegan McLean Ruark, his stepdaughter Taylor Layman,his brother Jason Ruark (Renee), his niece Bentley Ruark, his nephews Remington Ruark, Elijah Coreas, and Nathaniel Coreas, his uncles James Ruark (Sue), Steven Horn (Cindy) and numerous cousins and second cousins.

Clarksdale, Mo…Looking for words to express our joy in knowing Jennifer Lynn Montoya and words to express our deep loss of such a dear person is ….

She was many things:&nbsp; a daughter, a wife, a mother, a sister, a friend. There are so many words to describe how she fulfilled each of the roles in her lifetime.&nbsp; Her first role began on January 25, 1966, when she was born to Byron J. Waller and Grace L. (Gaylord) Waller, in St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp; She was the fifth and last in a line of all girls.

Jennifer met her husband, LeRoy P. Montoya, through their mutual love of farming and committed themselves to one another when they married on December 18, 1998.

She has lived in Clarksdale, Mo her whole life. She purchased her family home and raised her three sons there.&nbsp; Being a country girl at heart, Jenn took great pride in working on her farm with her husband. A favorite past-times riding their horses in the mountains. They loved antiquing, traveling, and going to estate sales. But most of all, spending time with family. She enjoyed deer hunting with her husband and son. They often laughed about the time she managed to scare a deer out to thicket and yet her husband and son still failed to hit their target, leaving Jenn lamenting the fact that she just didn’t take the shot herself.

She is the wonderful mother of three son’s Jacob A Conley, Jeffery A. Conley, and Manuel Royce Montoya. She was very supportive of her son’s activities. Spent many nights at the ballfield or at the hockey rink. Was a volunteer at church youth camp every summer.

Jennifer has received her English major from Missouri Western. Then later in life went back to school to receive her Bachelor of Nursing. Followed by her Master of Nursing at UMKC. Has worked many years at Missouri Western then finished her career at Mosaic life Care.

Jennifer is preceded in death by her wonderful husband LeRoy. Her parents Byron and Grace Waller. Infant sister. Other sets of parents, Jerry and Cathy Wilkinson. In-laws Manuel and Magdalena Montoya, Brother-in law Fred Montoya and Charlie Roster.&nbsp; Nephew’s Chace Montoya and Casey Ingram.&nbsp;

Lois Estes parted this life, strong in faith and thankful for 99 years of life, on All Saints Day, November 1, 2023, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Topeka, Kansas. 

She was a long-time resident of Atchison, Kansas, and for the past decade had lived in St. Joseph, Missouri. Lois was born on March 4, 1924, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Erwin H. and Ruth (Pennekamp) Marting. She graduated from Grover Cleveland High School and received her BSBA from Washington University in St. Louis. After graduation, she was employed at the university as an assistant to the bursar, managing tuition accounts for veterans studying under the G.I. Bill of Rights.

On Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1949, Lois married C.J. Estes, of Atchison, at Messiah Lutheran Church in St. Louis. They resided in Atchison, where they raised their five children, and operated the family-owned Atchison County Auction Company. Lois served as treasurer of that corporation as well as of Estes Ranch and CJE, Inc.Her lifelong passion for numbers dated back to her youth when she regularly served as the treasurer for clubs she joined. Lois later went on to be a census taker, the treasurer of the Mount Vernon Cemetery Association, and a poll worker. 

She was active in the Junior Guild and several bridge clubs. As a pastime, she recently mastered as many as a dozen varieties of Sudoku. Lois was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison where she was an active supporter of its elementary school, serving as PTA president and school board member. As a volunteer, for over thirty years she managed the school lunch payments, frequently collecting money directly from the students herself.In retirement Lois and C.J. enjoyed traveling, often visiting livestock auctions along their route. After his death, her children and grandchildren accompanied her on many memorable cruises.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she delighted in family gatherings and never missed sending a birthday card or remembering her loved ones’ special occasions. Her legacy reminds her survivors to live a life filled with faith, love, and acts of service.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Marting; and daughter, Barbara (Tom) Miller. S

he is survived by son David, San Antonio, Texas; daughters Ann (Pat Sundeen) Glendale, Arizona.; Kathy (Ed) Thomason, Topeka; and Joan (Rod) Bellows, Overland Park, Kansas; eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Marty Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Charles "Porkchop" Fulcomer, beloved family member and friend, passed away at the age of 52 in Independence, MO on October 30, 2023. Born in Pennsylvania on June 9, 1971, Charles was a lover of music and had an infectious sense of humor that made him loved by all who knew him.

Known for his playful spirit, Charles could frequently be seen wearing hats, masks and unique shoes. Halloween was his favorite holiday. His outgoing personality and unique style will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

Charles is survived by his stepdaughter, Dawn Morris; step-granddaughter, Trynaty Morris; sister, Devina Burnett; numerous friends who were like family. Charles 'Porkchop' Fulcomer 1971 - 2023

Jennifer A. Schwab, 41, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023, after a four-year battle with ALL (a form of leukemia).

She was born July 12, 1982 in Independence, Missouri to Kenneth and Charlene (Swift) Meyer. Jennifer attended Buhler High School, then Hutchinson High School, where she graduated in 2001.

Jennifer studied at Northeast Kansas Technical College, then worked as an LPN for many years, first at Hutchinson Clinic, then at Friendship Mennonite Communities and lastly, at Ascension Via Christi.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling and cooking, and loved spending time with family and friends. She was always there for them.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brendan; brother, Nathan Meyer; grandparents, Alfred Meyer, Elmer and Doris Swift; and aunt, Doretta Swift.

Survivors include her parents; step-granddaughter Haverleigh Schwab and her family; sister, Stacy Valgerie (Tracy); grandmother, Mary Ann Meyer; 13 aunts and uncles and their families; numerous cousins and friends.

Memorial Services and Public Livestream 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 18, St. Joseph Restoration Branch. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.

Rodney VanSickle, 71, of Kansas City, MO passed away, October 21, 2023.

He was born on December 1, 1952 to William Dale and Mildred Ileane (Ponting) VanSickle in Kansas City, KS. Rod grew up in the Northland and graduated from Oak Park High School.&nbsp;

Rod made his home in Kansas City and loved hunting and fishing.

Rod is survived by his brothers, Chester (Joyce) VanSickle and James VanSickle (Deanna Zerr); two nephews, Tyler (Chelsea) VanSickle and Chandler (Christina) VanSickle; great nieces and great nephew, Rogan, Millie, Bella; other relatives and many friends.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4th at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1441 NE Englewood Rd Kansas City, MO.
