Edward Eugene Brawdy, 68, formerly of Independence, Missouri passed away July 18, 2024 at his Oregon, Missouri home.

Edward graduated from Kansas City’s Park Hill High School in 1974, and then entered the United States Army in August of that year. He served part of his military service stationed in Hawaii,&nbsp;and Sergeant Brawdy was honorably discharged in 1986.

Edward lived much of his life in Independence, Missouri where he drove a truck for Penske and other companies. &nbsp;He moved to Oregon, Missouri &nbsp;in 2022 to be closer to family.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Winfield Brawdy and Colleen V. (Wiese) Brawdy; and one sister, Virginia L. Bundy.

Survivors include his children, Kevin Brawdy, Rossville, Georgia, Anthony (Jessica) Brawdy, Valdosta, Georgia, Jennifer (Derrick) Foster, Iola, Kansas and Elizabeth (Tyler) Shupe, Oregon, Missouri;&nbsp;one sister, Pam Brawdy, Gravois Mills, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Charles, Makayla, Megan, Saylor, Olivia, Isabel, Oliver, Nora, and Dean; and one great grandchild, McKenzie.

Edward was a proud veteran who enjoyed meeting with a group called Park Hill Veterans, camping, hunting and fishing.

She was born on November 20, 1937 in McMillan, MI to Harvey and Erma (Viland) Mainville. She married James H. “Buck” McKown on November 12, 1966 and he preceded her in death on September 18, 1983. She enjoyed fishing.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her daughter Karla Goldizen and husband Nicholas J. and several nieces and nephews.

Linda Louise Holland, age 87, of Savannah, MO passed away Thursday July 18, 2024, at her home. Linda was born on July 8, 1937, at Marshall, MO to Hubert Austin and Ida Louise (Duncan) Haynie. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1955. She married Donald Wayne Holland on December 30, 1956, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. They have been married for 67 years.

Linda, soon after being married, began working as a seed analyst for the MFA seed division in Marshall until 1959. From 1959 to 1965, Linda and Donald ran a restaurant and tire business in Miami MO. In 1965, the Holland family moved to a farm near Amazonia, MO. On the farm, she loved to garden, raise all kinds of poultry, rabbits, and ride her horses.

Linda was quick to get involved in community activities. She loved children and was known as being a second mother to many kids. She was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi in Savannah, MO. She was a Cub Scout leader of Troop 219. She taught Sunday School, Youth Bible Study and Vacation Bible School at Amazonia Methodist Church. She was an Assistant leader of Lone Star 4H Club. Linda helped organized the Amazonia preschool PTA and also served as PTA President. In 1982, Linda began working at Heartland West Hospital in Admissions. She enjoyed her work there and served 12 years until her first grandchild was born in 1994.&nbsp;

In 1989, Linda and her husband Donald built a convenient store known locally as "The T-Stop" located near Savannah, MO. As the business grew, it soon became the center for local farmers, friends, and guests to gather, share stories, eat, trade, and get a friendly smile from Linda. She was known for helping others in need as they passed through. The "T-Stop" was sold in 2023 after 34 years of providing community service. &nbsp;

Linda enjoyed traveling throughout Missouri, the Midwest and visited several countries.&nbsp;

Linda had three sons and three grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart. She immersed herself in their education, school activities, and careers. She was known as "Memaw" by her grandkids.&nbsp;

Linda was preceded in death by her parents and son, Douglas Keith &nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include husband, Donald Wayne Holland, of the home, sons Gregory Allen (Martha) of Marshall, MO. John Austin (Michele) of Savannah, MO. Grandsons Logan Keith of Ohio, Wesley Robert of Savannah, and granddaughter Courtney Ann of Marshall, MO. Many friends of which she cared about and loved deeply. She was Mom and Grandma to all who knew her.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, 11:00am August 24, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Savannah.

Betty Jo (Garton) Lance, 84, Savannah, Missouri; passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty Jo was born on December 23, 1939 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to the late Herbert and Neola (Teaford) Garton. Betty graduated from Behler Grade School and was a 1957 graduate of Savannah High School. Betty received her bachelor’s degree in education from Northeast Missouri State University. &nbsp;

Mrs. Lance was a teacher for the St. Joseph and Savannah School Districts for twenty-eight years, and touched the lives of many students throughout her tenure. Prior to her teaching years, Betty co-owned and operated Lance’s House of Flowers.

Betty was a member of the First Christian Church, the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and the Ladies Auxiliary for Missouri LICA. She enjoyed flower gardens, crafting and scrapbooking.&nbsp;

Betty Jo married Caryl Dean Lance on June 25, 1961 in Cosby, Missouri. They were married for fifty-eight years, before he preceded her in death on July 3, 2019.

In addition to her husband and parents, Betty Jo was preceded in death by her grandson, Andre Lance; brothers, Fred and Gene Garton; niece, Jody Bauman; and nephew, John Bauman.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Paige Lance; granddaughter, Allie Lance; brother, Richard P. Garton; sister, Susan Bauman; nieces and nephews, Patricia Saxon, Jeff Lance (Caelene), Kent Lance, Sheryl Jermain (Gary), Pam Pranschke, Terry Bauman (Stephanie), Dena Watkins (Clay), Tammy Smith, Richard L. Garton (Jamie), Kim Mildward (Scott) and Travis Garton.

David Coursen, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024.

He was born October 16, 1947 to Francis and Evelyn (Ziolkowski) Coursen in St. Joseph, Missouri.

David married Sandra Kay Cornell on October 1, 1970. She preceded him in death in 2008 after 38 years of marriage. Together, they traveled throughout the United States as Evangelists.

David was a man of God and enjoyed preaching the Word to others. He also enjoyed construction work, carving wax figurines, sweet treats and spending time with his beloved family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Evelyn; his wife, Sandra; his son, David Coursen Jr; his daughter, Linnette Williams; two brothers; one sister; and granddaughter, Lacey Duree.

Survivors include his son, Dereck Coursen (Leandra); his daughter, Melissa Duree (Terry); nine grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Chester was born July 17, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of John C. and Monnie Jo (Masters) Gardner. Chester lived at Bean Lake before moving to Atchison in 1993, where he lived for many years and worked at the Achievement Services Workshop.

He was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Atchison. &nbsp;He enjoyed watching sporting events of the Royals and Kansas City Chiefs, reading, listening to Billy Graham and Oral Roberts music and dancing.

Survivors include a sister, Bonnie (Tom) Reese, Atchison, KS; a niece, Bonnie Jo Dreiling, Joplin, MO. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patty Jo Dreiling and two brothers, Tommy Gardner and James Gardner.

 On June 9, 2024, he married Heather Tollefson in St. Joseph. Harry operated at H&amp;M Lawn Service and Trash Service. He enjoyed working in his shop and wood working. 

Harry was preceded in death by father, Leonard Cline, mother, Delura Stewart, and step-sister, Elizabeth Smith. 

Survivors include wife, Heather Stewart of the home, his children, Carrie Stewart, Kalei Stewart &nbsp;(Dale Weaver), Harry Stewart, Jr, Allen Stewart, Bella Stewart, Rosealei Stewart and Jamie Stewart.

Ronnie D. Davis Sr. &nbsp;64, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at his home. He was born December 8, 1959 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Mary and Hugh Davis Sr. 

He worked at Memorial Park Cemetery as a grounds keeper. Ronnie enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, David Lee Davis, and brothers, Charles Russell Davis, Sr. and Hugh Davis Jr.

Bruce Douglas Fane 1944 - 2024

Lonnie Brickey, 84, Cosby, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024.

She was born July 17, 1939 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Marvin and Nieva (Waggoner) Palmer.

Lonnie married Zane Roland Brickey on February 22, 1958. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2021.

She was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a breast cancer survivor.

Lonnie loved to maintain her house and work in the yard.

The family would like to thank Freudenthal Home Health, especially Rebecca Raya, Stephanie King, and Tasha Garza, for their excellent care of Lonnie.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Zane; her parents; and daughter-in-law, Susan Brickey.

Survivors include her children, Michael Brickey (Lou Ann), Randall Brickey (Kristin), and Nancy Hart (Randy); grandchildren, Matthew Brickey (Julie), Bradley Brickey (Beth), Sarah McCrerey (Ryan), and Travis Hart; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Ann Canchola (Mike) and Steven Palmer (Vicki); other extended family and friends; and her beloved dog, Cookie.

ONAGA – Nancy Helen Berges, 49, of Onaga, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at her home. &nbsp;

She was born December 22, 1974 at Fort Riley, the daughter of Freal and Kim Kum Sun Frazier. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1993, attended Barton Community College in Junction City, then received her degree in Computer Information Systems from Friends University in Topeka. She served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1994 to 2001.

Nancy worked with computer systems, starting with Morrill and Janes Bank in Onaga from 2006 until 2015, she worked for Kansas State University from 2016 to 2022, and then for Community Hospital in Onaga for a year. &nbsp;

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Onaga, the Altar Society at the church, and had taught Religious Education classes at the church. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #2468 in Manhattan.

She married Jonathan Berges on September 2, 2005 at Blaine. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Xavier Berges and Beau Berges, and a daughter, Vivian Berges, all of the home, her parents, Freal and Kim Frazier, Junction City, her father and mother-in-law, Eugene and Debbie Berges, Onaga, a sister, Kathy Strand, and her son, Carl Strand, Jr., Kansas City, two brothers-in-law, Michael Berges (Erica), Hays, and their children, Jackson, Noah, and Isaac, and Daniel Berges (Jami), Frankfort, and their children, Claire, Calvin and Caralynn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22nd at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial with Flag Presentation will follow in the Onaga Cemetery. Ernest (Bill) Williams passed away July 14th, 2024 at St. Luke’s North hospital surrounded by his family. Ernie was born in Lake City, Iowa to Bertha and James Williams. 

He grew up in Lanesboro, Des Moines, and Carroll, Iowa. After graduating high school, he joined the Army. His Army career lasted for 11 years with 2 tours of Korea and 2 years in Vietnam. He was also an Army recruiter in Norfolk, Nebraska. While in Vietnam he received a letter from a young lady in Woodward, Iowa. When he came home on leave, he met this young lady who a year later would become his wife. Marjorie and Ernie were married on July 12, 1969.They just celebrated their 55 anniversary 2 days before he passed.

When he left the Army, he started a 20-year career at the U.S. penitentiary in Leavenworth, KS. He started as a guard and retired as a counselor. Ernie and Marjorie moved to Weston, MO in 1978 and still reside there. After a month of retirement, he just had to go back to work. Since he was only 51 years old. He went a whole different direction with his last job. He joined a little electronic company that repairs controls for trains, grew to become WEBTEC. He would work there for 26 years retiring in 2020.Upon retired he loved to go fishing and stock car races and going to all his granddaughters’ events.

Ernie was very active in the community. He was a cub scout leader for pack 249 for 7 years, a member of the board of the HUD housing for 5 years and a member of the Weston Lions club for 35 years serving as secretary and general chairman of the Lions Antique and Collectable show for most of those years.

Ernie will continue to help others in his death. He became a tissue donor hero thru the Midwest Transplant Network and donated his pacemaker to St. Jude’s hospital.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie, son’s Don (Melissa), James (Rosemary), granddaughters Annica and Emelyn. One sister Janet of Humeston, IA. Celebration of his life will be July 28 at the Vaughn funeral home in Weston, MO. Visitation at 2:00 with services at 3:00. Tyrus R. “Tykie” Kurth, Jr., 79, formerly of Atchison, KS died Sat. July 13th, 2024, at the Medicalodge of Leavenworth, KS.

He graduated from Atchison High School in 1963. Ty served in the United States Army for 3 ½ years, including in South Vietnam for 13 months, and as first cook for the 1st Inf. Division from 1965-1966. He worked as a truck driver for Peeler Oil Company, in Kansas City, MO. He later worked as a sergeant in charge of nighttime security at Iatan Power Plant, until bad health forced his retirement in 1995. 

Ty was a member of the American Legion Post # 6, and the VFW Post # 1175 both of Atchison, KS and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing for catfish and playing cards with family and friends.

He was married to Annette C. Peck on March 20, 2015. She survives at home in Leavenworth. KS. Additional survivors include a brother John Wolters, Atchison KS, a sister Janace Kurth, St. Joseph, MO, a granddaughter Gina Kurth, and great granddaughter Alannah Cairo and several nieces and nephews. His parents, daughter Tegan Hipsher, and brother Pat Wolters preceded him in death.

Arlena “Faye” Aborn, 83 of Savannah, MO went to be with the Lord and Savior on Tuesday July 16, 2024 at Abundant Acres (formerly Shady Lawn) in Savannah. She was born April 29, 1941 in Arispie, IA to George &amp; Arelene (Jones) Kimble. She married Virgil (Corky) Aborn in Flag Springs, MO on August 24,1958 and he preceded her in death in 2021. They raised their family in Amazonia MO before moving to Savannah, MO.&nbsp;

Faye loved her Lord Jesus and served Him faithfully. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a hard-working woman at work or at home. She had many occupations throughout the years from homemaker to running Aborn Upholstery Shop in Amazonia MO all while chasing her grandkids around and spoiling them. If you spent more than 5 minutes with her, she would share her faith in the Lord with you and pray for you.&nbsp;

Heather Renae Mace 52, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away peacefully Monday July 15, 2024 at her home in St Joseph surrounded by loved ones. She was born April 16, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri daughter of Betty &amp; Robert "Pete" Mace. 

She attended Benton High School. She loved the simple things in life: humming birds, plants, fishing, reading, and being outside. She was crazy about her “grand-babies” and enjoyed her role as their “Maw”. 

Heather was preceded in death by her father, Robert "Pete" Earl Mace. 

She is survived by mother, Betty Mace (Jerry Logston), daughters, Audrey (Daniel) Hansen, Wathena, KS, and Ashley (Colton) Garton, St. Joseph, MO, her long-time companion, Scott Davidson of St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Liam, Lyla, Lincoln, Leroy and Wyatt, siblings: Penny (Bryon) Grable, Jennifer (Dave) Trammell, Pavla Mace, Darren Mace, Rodney Mace, Robert (Regina) Mace, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brandy spent 30 years residing in California before embarking on a journey across the United States, eventually establishing her home in St. Joseph, Missouri, alongside her beloved son, Cory.

She was known for her profound affection for her pets, including her cherished cats, Simon and Peaches, and her devoted dog, Snowball. She had a passion for watching movies and was particularly fond of true crime television series.

A talented cook, Brandy took great pleasure in preparing meals for her family and friends. Her intelligence and generosity were hallmarks of her character, and she was always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. Brandy’s unwavering commitment to doing her best for others will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Eva Tschaun.

Shelby Lee Ragsdale, 32, Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024.

He was born on April 20, 1992, to Tracy D. and Victoria L. (Larue) Ragsdale in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Survivors include his parents; his children, William Terry Lee Ragsdale, Marlee Faye Ragsdale, and Brentlee Lasher; his adopted son, Jayce Connor Bancroft; and his brother, Brandon Ragsdale.

Harold Bowling, of Plattsburg, MO passed away, July 15, 2024.

He was born on September 12, 1943 to Leonard Leon and Mabel Clymena (Wilson) Bowling in Galena, MO. Harold grew up in Galena and graduated from Galena High School.

Harold was united in marriage to Patricia Burk on December 29, 1961. They lived in Smithville where they raised their children. On July 28, 1992 he was united in marriage to Viola (Zewalk) Cannon. After their marriage they lived in Plattsburg where they made their home.

Harold worked for General Motors for 30 years. He built custom cabinets, loved to fish, cut wood, drive his tractors, going to get ice cream and Burger King.

Harold was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Plattsburg where he was the representative for the church at the community food pantry. Harold also helped with the community dinners hosted by the Broadway United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer for Home Delivery Meals, and he and Vi made sleeping mats for the homeless.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Danny Bowling, and his daughter Denise Banks.

Harold is survived by his wife, Vi, of the home; daughter, Taresia (Scott) Foster; step-daughters, Stephanie Cannon and Valisa (Manuel) Jackson; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Foster, Kelley Foster (Jenna Owens), Glenn Devin Banks (Morgan), Brittany Ellis, Brandi Ellis, Aaliyah (Jose) Vargas, Joseph Peery, and Chico Jackson; six great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Jackson, Chase, Cruz, Ryder, and Axel; sister, Alice June Pulliam; other relatives and many friends.

Harold Bowling 1943 - 2024

David, L Roberts, 77, St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024. He was born November 21, 1946 in Saint Joseph to Russell and Mabel (Lidgett) Roberts. 

After graduating from Benton high school in 1965, he served his country as a 3rd Marine Division corpsman in the Viet Nam war (1965-1968) He had received extensive training at the US Naval medical school in San Diego, California. He received 2 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star and the combat “V” for valor. He had been wounded twice. Using a ballpoint pen and cigarette lighter, wounded himself the 2nd time, David saved the life of a fallen Marine by performing an emergency tracheotomy on him. 

After returning from the war he lived in California and Oregon. There he worked as a respiratory therapist. He retired in 2005 and moved back to St. Joseph in 2007. He loved to camp, fish and do a little photography. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and infant sister. He has 3 children who reside in California; Shon Tate, Joani Tate and Kelly Tate-Aguirre. With numerous grandchildren. 

Also surviving is James Roberts, Gerry Roberts and Susan Dudley.

Graveside memorial services and United States Navy honors will be 11:00 am Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Charles Francis Venneman, 87, passed away July 14, 2024 at home with family.

Charles was born March 10, 1937 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Anthony John and Helen Mabel Venneman.

Charles met his wife Lotte in Germany while he was an engineer in the Army post WWII. They married in Germany on February 22, 1958 and moved back to St. Joseph where they raised 5 children. He continued his engineering background in concrete construction until he retired.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents Anthony John and Helen Mabel Venneman, wife Lotte Anne, son Michael Anthony, and siblings John Anthony, Rita Marie, Clara Jane and Gary Lee Chaney.

He is survived by sons Eddie with one child, Mark with two children, Charlie and wife Julie with 3 children and 8 grandchildren, daughter Diane and husband Kennith with two daughters and five grandchildren.

Stanberry, MO:  Lorraine Helm-Higgins, 83, of Stanberry, MO (formerly of Lenox, Iowa) passed away Friday, July 12, 2024 at a St. Joseph, MO hospital.

     She was born November 24, 1940 in Adams County, Iowa the daughter of Lowell Rush and Margaret (Spring) Wilson.

     On October 8, 1961, she married Fred Helm in Lenox, Iowa.  They moved to Stanberry in 1988.  He preceded her in death on September 21, 2007.  Then on October 24, 2010, she married Joseph Higgins.  

     Lorraine worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Stanberry, MO.  Lorraine was also a member of P.E.O. and Order of Eastern Star.  She was very talented in crocheting, making homemade pies and especially making candy platters at Christmas.

     In addition to her first husband, Fred, she was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Leland Wilson.

      Survivors include her husband, Joe, of the home; her children, Scott (Darla) Helm, Creston, IA, Doug (Vicky) Helm, Mt. Olive, NC and Dina (Ronnie) Thomas, Albany, MO; step-daughter, Candy (Kevin) Hankins, Dearborn, MO; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Osiecki, Arapahoe, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

Penny Settle, 69, of Camden Point, MO passed away, July 15, 2024.

She was born on June 14, 1955 to Ewell Jackson and Mary Lee (Ray) Settle in St. Joseph, MO. Penny grew up in Camden Point, MO and graduated from North Platte High School.

Penny lived all her life in Camden Point. She was artistic and enjoyed coloring, watching TV and most importantly spending time with her cat, Dusty, and her dog, Ginger.

She was a member of the Camden Point Christian Church.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, brother, James Lynn “Butch” Settle, and brother-law, Terry Edlin.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Edlin; nieces, LeAnn Wilson and Kerry Brooke (Logan) Hyde; great nieces and nephews, Baylie Mae Wilson, Remington Wade Wilson, Riley Wade Hyde, and Spencer Ray Hyde.
