Janice Fern Abitz Loughmiller, 83, of Onaga, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the Community Hospital in Onaga.
She was born September 28, 1941, on a farm near Wheaton, the daughter of Otto and Jessie Day Abitz. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1959.
Janice was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wheaton and the Auxiliary to Community Hospital, Onaga.
After high school Janice worked as a teller for the First National Bank in Onaga until the late 1980’s. She then worked at the hospital in Onaga in the office of the Audiology and Rehabilitation Department until she retired.
She married Max W. Loughmiller on June 9, 1963 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wheaton. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2023.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Frank Abitz and Roger Abitz.
Survivors include a son, Lucas Loughmiller (Katie), Manhattan, a daughter, Mitzi Loughmiller, Harahan, LA, one sister, Erma Kufahl, Wheaton, one brother, Gene Abitz (Ann), Westmoreland, a sister-in-law, Verla Harding, Topeka, a brother-in-law, Roland Martin, Blue Springs, MO, and one granddaughter, Stella Zoe Loughmiller.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25th at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s North Cemetery at Wheaton. Janice will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga, where a visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 5:30.
