Janet Shryock McCoy, 77, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024.

She was born on December 24, 1946, to Raymond F. and Rosebelle (Lundy) Shryock in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Janet worked for Methodist Hospital as a nursing tech for several years, and later retired from Excelsior Springs Hospital, where she worked as a therapist.

She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Janet enjoyed going dancing, listening to her husband’s band play, baking, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Galen A. McCoy; siblings, Joyce, Judy, Jeannie, Detra, Lavetta, Jacqueline, Ronnie and Donald; and her daughter, Stacy Stout.

Marsha D. Tyes, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024.&nbsp;

She was born December 22, 1953 in Carrollton, Missouri to George and Dolores (McCorkle) Swanegan. She grew up in Norborne, Missouri and graduated from Norborne High School.

Marsha married Donald Ray Tyes on April 6, 1985. From this union were born two children, Brooke Dionn Tyes and Shelby Nykole Tyes.

She attended Missouri Western State University for two years, then later completed her training and earned her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Hillyard Technical Center. She started her career at Heartland East Hospital, and later transitioned to Riverbend Treatment Center, where she worked until her retirement.

Marsha loved music and the Lord, and expressed that love and talent as a longtime member of St. Francis Baptist Temple, where she was a devoted piano player and member of the choir for over 30 years.

She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Marsha absolutely adored her granddaughter and loved spending time with her.

Marsha was the love and inspiration that held our family together, and we will miss her beyond words.

She was preceded in death by her father; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include her daughters, Brooke Tyes and Shelby Tyes; granddaughter, Maliyah Robinson; life companion, Donald Tyes; mother, Dolores Swanegan; brother, Larry Swanegan; other extended family members and friends.

William Floyd Hay, Jr., 89, of Kansas City, MO, formerly of Edgerton, MO, passed away February 24, 2024.

He was born on April 12, 1934, to William Floyd, Sr., and Anna Bertha (Pierce) Hay in Dearborn, MO and in 1952 he graduated from Edgerton High School.

On October 2, 1953, he was united in marriage to Maralyn Matthews. After their marriage they lived in Edgerton, MO and later Lathrop, MO where they raised their family.&nbsp;

Bill worked for Ben Franklin Warehouse for 25 years and later retired as a janitor from the North Kansas City School District. He enjoyed coaching his sons in little league, fishing, square dancing, and most of all being with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents William “Wack” and Anna “Granny Wack” Hay; his brother Kenny Hay, his sister Marie Rickel and his granddaughter Laura Hay Humphrey.&nbsp;

Bill is survived by his wife Maralyn Hay; his sons Gene Hay and wife Kelly and Mark Hay; grandchildren Aaron Hay, Rebecca Hay, Anna (Jason) Jacobs, Maj. Randy Wade, 67, of Gower, MO passed away February 22, 2024.

He was born on July 12, 1956, to Raymond and Verna Elizabeth (Shelton) Wade in Excelsior Springs, MO where he grew up and attended elementary school. He graduated from Ft. Osage High School. He then attended UMKC and graduated from Luther Rice Seminary with a bachelor's degree in biblical studies.&nbsp;

On May 2, 1977, he was united in marriage to Holly Ann Renick. After their marriage they lived in Excelsior Springs, MO; Tulsa, OK; Liberty, MO and in 1982 they settled in Gower, MO where they made their home and raised their children.

Randy was an operations manager for Kmart in St. Joseph, MO until they closed in November of 2014. He was a minister for many years and was currently the pastor at New Beginnings in Gower and the Faucett Baptist Church. He enjoyed aviation, cars, radios, watching races, and was an avid baseball fan. Most of all Randy had a great sense of humor and a love for God, his family and his friends.&nbsp;

Randy was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Verna Wade; his brothers Ray Wade and Roger Wade; and his sister Beverly Sue Lamley.

He is survived by his wife Holly Wade; his children Melody Haywood and husband Harold, Joy O’Donnell and husband Ryan, Randall Wade, and Christina Wade and husband Brady McIntosh; grandchildren Nathan, Aaron, Katie, Caleb, Sammy, Matthew, Joshua, Sarah, Daniel, Josiah, Rebecca, and Stephen; other relatives and many friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

North High School, Winchester, Kansas. Liz worked for eleven years as a AT&amp;T relay operator early in her career, and loved her time as a radio DJ for Magic 108 FM. Most recently she worked for CPAC billing Veterans, retiring in 2023. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Liz enjoyed cooking, shopping, animals, motorcycle rides, ATV runs, playing card, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She married Marty Hoffman on May 24, 2008, in Nortonville, KS, and he preceded her in death on February 16, 2024. She was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Liz is survived by her son, Joshua (Kayla) Hoffman, daughter, Meridith Hoffman, two grandchildren, Braylon and Andrew Hoffman, sister, Connie Rosenthal, brother-in-law, Philip (Sherri) Hoffman, and Team Liz.&nbsp;She is preceded by her parents, husband, and brother Robert “Chris” Johnson.

Carol was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison.

Laura Ellen Draper, 95, of Atchison, KS died on Wednesday, February 21st, 2024, at the Atchison Senior Village.

Laura was born on February 24th, 1928, in east Atchison. Laura is the daughter of Jesse and Ellen Moore of Sugar Lake east of Atchison who proceeded her in death. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1945. Laura worked at Ramseys Department Store upon graduation then attended Atchison Beauty College in Atchison. She worked as a beautician in Atchison until the family moved to Stockton MO in 1984. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, and was active as a Den Mother and Cub Scout Leader.

Laura enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, traveling, going to the casino and her family pets. She was a long-time member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Laura married Carl Case Draper on March 12th, 1950, at the First Christian Church. Carl proceeded her in death in 2006.

Survivors include one daughter Diane (Paul) Briggs of Colwich, KS, and four sons Ken (Kathy) Draper of Stockton MO, Kirk (Lisa) Draper of Macks Creek MO, Craig Draper of Huntsville AR, and Dennis (Sue) Draper of Atchison KS. Laura has 13 grandchildren, Jerri (Doug) Newman, Kelli (Josh) McClintock, Jeff (Sarah) Draper, David Draper, Davis (Erin) Draper, Dustin (Michelle) Draper, Judianne Doyle, Crystal (Colton)Wright, Jennie (Ross) Fuhrman, Joanie (Sam) Sinclair, Maureen (Mike) Berry, Ian Briggs, Katie Draper. Laura has twenty-four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Laura worked at Ramseys Department Store upon graduation then attended Atchison Beauty College in Atchison. She worked as a beautician in Atchison until the family moved to Stockton MO in 1984. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, and was active as a Den Mother and Cub Scout Leader.Laura enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, traveling, going to the casino and her family pets. She was a long-time member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;Laura married Carl Case Draper on March 12th, 1950, at the First Christian Church. Carl proceeded her in death in 2006.Survivors include one daughter Diane (Paul) Briggs of Colwich, KS, and four sons Ken (Kathy) Draper of Stockton MO, Kirk (Lisa) Draper of Macks Creek MO, Craig Draper of Huntsville AR, and Dennis (Sue) Draper of Atchison KS. She was born September 1, 1940 in St. Joseph, daughter of Verrill and Floyd Hessemyer. Joanna graduated from Central High School, class of 1958, and Stephens College, class of 1960. She married Gary Bonham on June 6, 1964 in St. Joseph. Joanna loved animals, especially her poodles. She was a devoted mother and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church. 

Preceding her in death are her parents, and husband, Gary Bonham. Survivors include: son, Galen Bonham, daughter, Jenny Galloway, both of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Benjamin, Gabriel, and Jolie Galloway.Ms. Bonham has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. Elma L. Muse, 79, of St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Forest City and Oregon, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at a St. Joseph hospital.

Elma was born on November 7, 1944 in Forest City to Charles T. and Marjorie E. (Rasnic) Lovelady. She was one of 12 children. Elma attended school at Forest City.

On May 6, 1963 she married James A. Muse in Oregon. James passed away on May 16, 1968 when Elma was just 23 years old.&nbsp;

Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Roxie; and siblings, Donald Francis Lovelady, Ruby Lovelady, Stella Lovelady, Goldie Jean Kluge, Eva Marie Todd, Charles “Bud” Lovelady, Ida Nadine Lovelady, and an infant brother.

Shawn Michael Schuler, age 41, of Atchison, KS, died unexpectedly on February 19, 2024.

A visitation to celebrate and remember Shawn’s life will be Monday, February 26, 2024, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with a short prayer service by Rev. Dr. Rachel Dannar to conclude the visitation. Shawn will be cremated following the visitation.

Shawn was born on September 6, 1982, in Atchison, KS, the son of Sonja (Trower) and Jeffrey Schuler. He attended public grade school and graduated from Atchison High School. Growing up, he enjoyed wrestling, baseball and boy scouts. He was employed at Bradken for over fifteen years.

He could be described as the smartest, dumb guy you knew, for example, he enjoyed riding bulls at numerous rodeos. He loved the outdoors, cooking, gardening and was extremely crafty in all he did. The best part about him was that he was a great uncle to his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his father, Jeff Schuler (Tammy Ferris); mother, Sonja Betts; sisters, Amanda Smith (Ricky), Erica Schuler; stepbrother, Kyle Ferris; stepsister, Asha Ferris; paternal grandmother, Beverly Schuler; maternal grandmother, Mary Trower; and aunts and uncles, Wade (Tammy) Schuler, Shelly Quinlan, Robbie Walker, Tina Purdy, Corey Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Lois Vivian Brewer, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, at North Kansas City Hospital, after a brief illness.

She had a deep love for her family and friends. She cherished the Lord and continuously expressed her gratitude for a long life full of remarkable memories and diverse experiences.

She was born on January 4, 1924, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Cleota Madison Washington-Tapp (Henry) and Floyd Edward Washington Sr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman Franklin Brewer, Sr., St. Joseph, Missouri, son, Norman Franklin Brewer, Jr., Cleveland, Ohio, and brothers William Madison Washington (Eunice), St. Joseph, Missouri and Floyd Edward Washington, Jr. (Cora Mae), Cleveland, Ohio.

Lois Brewer leaves behind to cherish her memory: daughter of the home, De Lois Jean Brewer aka Jeanne, Kansas City, Missouri, son, Clarence Edward Brewer, Chicago, Illinois, daughter-in-law, Mary Brewer, Cleveland, Ohio.

Her greatest pride and joy were her relationships with family including grandchildren, Stefan Gilbert (Kristina), Stacey Gene, Straud Gregory (Elizabeth) Brewer all of Kansas City, Missouri, and Clayton (Teresa) Brewer of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Kimberly (Daniel) Morrison of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Ebonie,Tanya and Kimberly Smith of Cleveland Ohio. Twelve great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren with a great-great grandson due in April, several nieces and nephews, host of great, great-great, and great–great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins, spawning across the states of Ohio, Washington, Florida, Tennessee, California, Wyoming, Arizona, Indiana, Texas, Virginia and Colorado.

Lois had a variety of occupations throughout her life. She retired from the United States Postal Service and was a passionate community volunteer in St. Joseph. She also worked for the Economic Opportunity Corporation serving as a neighborhood coordinator and devoted time to the open door food kitchen and meals on wheels. Lois was also a licensed beautician for many years.

She joined St. Francis Baptist Temple in June of 1938 and was a faithful lifelong member. She served in the Naomi Circle Women’s Mission, Usher Board and Historical Committee.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, pride, kindness, and faith in the Lord. She will live forever in our hearts.

She worked for Mercantile Bank as a Bank Manager for 30 years before retiring.

Betty enjoyed taking care of her animals, especially her horses. She loved spending time with her granddaughter, Chelsea. She taught her how to take care of the horses. She also liked spending time with her two beloved dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert Canter.

Marilee Jane Creason (nee Steeb), 60, passed away on February 18, 2024, at her home in Kansas City, MO.

Marilee was born January 2, 1964, to Judge Merrill Steeb and Glenrose (Summers) Steeb, both of whom preceded Marilee. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Kenny Bledsoe.

Marilee was a graduate of Central High School, Missouri Western and UMKC (MBA).

She is survived by Curt Creason, her husband of 34 years, her daughter, Jerra Creason of Tucson, AZ, her sister, Sally Ann Bledsoe of Savannah, MO, brother-in-law, Chris Creason and mother-in-law, Mary Creason of Kansas City, MO and six beloved nieces and nephews.

Frances Elaine (Bell) Brooke, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024.&nbsp;

She was born on August 24, 1934, to Roy Dickerson and Mamie Grace (Judd) Bell in Bethany, Missouri.&nbsp;

She graduated from Bethany High School in 1951. Later that year, on October 1st, she married Ora A. Brooke. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2014.

She was a former member of the Bethel FCE (Family Community Education), Andrew County Extension Council, and board member at Shady Lawn. Frances was also the former president of the Blair School PTA.

Frances spent many years as a homemaker, providing a home full of love and laughter for her four children. She extended that love as a foster parent, welcoming children in need into her home. Frances’ home also served as an in-home daycare for children in the community.&nbsp;

She was a devoted mother and very involved in her children’s extracurricular activities. She was a proud Eagle Scout mom to her three sons.

Frances also enjoyed giving back to her community, often volunteering with the local food kitchen. She had a servant’s heart and extended kindness to everyone she met.

After her husband retired, they traveled the world together. From coast to coast, they visited Alaska, Hawaii, Tijuana, Nova Scotia, New Zealand and Australia, just to name a few.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sisters, Doris Nina Rawls and Helen Louise Helton.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children, Michael Brooke (Karen), Tom Brooke (Debbie), Patricia E. Supple (Terry) and Jeff Brooke (Julia), ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Christina (Bringus) Salvatore, 59, a cherished soul known for her spirited love of horses, passed away on February 16, 2024 in Agency, Missouri. She was born on May 20, 1964, in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Christina dedicated many years to serving her community through her management roles at Clarks Gas Station and Dollar General, earning respect and admiration for her work ethic and leadership.

She was a loving daughter, mother and friend who always saw the good in people and found a way of bringing people together with her beautiful smile. She was a generous soul as well, unless her favorite candies of Tootsie Rolls and Werther’s Original caramels were involved!

An avid equestrian, she found joy in riding and raising horses — a testament to her adventurous spirit. Christina's enthusiasm extended to spirited mudding adventures in her Jeep, sharing her zest for life with all around her.

Christina was preceded in death by her father, Larry Bringus. Her memory will forever gallop in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Karessa Case (Ricky) and Brayden Salvatore; her mother, Mary Williams; and her brother, Larry Bringus. She is also survived by numerous other extended family members and friends, and her beloved dogs, Ruby and Keyo.

Corine R. “Connie” Kneisel, of Hiawatha, died Saturday evening, February 17, 2024, at Anew Health Care Center in Hiawatha. &nbsp;She was 82. &nbsp;

Connie was a longtime resident of Brown County, she was born at Atchison, Kansas, June 11, 1941, one of five children born to Carl and Ruth Schmitt Kneisel. &nbsp;She grew up on a farm near Powhattan where her family farmed and raised livestock and attended country school, later graduating from Powhattan High School with the class of 1959. &nbsp;She attended the three year program at Missouri Methodist Nursing School in St. Joseph where she received her registered nurse diploma. &nbsp;

Her strong work ethic she learned by growing up on the farm carried over to her nursing. &nbsp;Connie worked various places in her many years of nursing: &nbsp;Alma Nursing Home, Hiawatha Community Hospital, Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha where she served as Director of Nursing for several years, and Colmery O’Neil Veterans Administration Hospital in Topeka for 10 years, retiring in 1997. &nbsp; As a nurse, she took care of and treated people like she was taking care of her own family, and like she wanted to be treated. In later years she moved to the Maple Grove Senior Complex to make her home, still caring for people by taking blood pressure and changing dressings when there were concerns.

Connie was baptized and confirmed in the Powhattan Lutheran Church before the Kneisel family transferred their membership to Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. &nbsp;Her growing and young mother years, Connie was busy! &nbsp;She sang in the choir at Powhattan High School, was involved with 4-H where she was a member of the Modern Sunflower 4-H Club. &nbsp;She won the ‘who’s-who’ Award—which was the highest award in health and food preparation. &nbsp;Her faith was very important to her and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Powhattan Lutheran Church. &nbsp;Connie was also a member of the Walther League Club of Powhattan. &nbsp;After she retired she was a member of the Hiawatha Chapter of NARFE.

Survivors include two children: &nbsp;William ‘Bill’ Spiker (Dawn), and Rita Hill; a sister Kathy Engle, a brother Harlan Kneisel (Susan); 4 grandchildren; &nbsp; and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Richard Kneisel, and a sister Sharon Rosenberger.

A Celebration of Connie’s Eternal Life is planned for 11 a.m. Friday, February 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha with Pastor Brian Holle officiating. &nbsp;Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Eric Ryan Martin, 49, of Platte City, MO passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home on February 16, 2024. Eric was born on February 6, 1975 in North Kansas City, MO to Linda and Pat Martin, also of Platte City.

Eric grew up and lived in the Platte City area most of his life. He graduated from Platte County High School. He was currently employed by Trane Supply as a sales associate.

Eric was a loving son, and a proud father to his two sons Austyn R. Martin (Leighann) of Platte City, and Lukas P. Martin of Gladstone, MO. Pop to his grandchildren whom he adored. Granddaughter, Savannah D. Martin and grandson, Waylon R. Martin. Eric was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed riding his Indian motorcycle with friends and motorcycle groups. He loved making people laugh. On occasion he would dress up in a crazy costume and go out and have a good time.

Eric was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Floyd and Norma Coons and his paternal grandmother, Dorles Hillis. He is survived by his parents, sons and grandchildren along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2024 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City; followed by a 12:15 p.m. graveside service at the Platte City Cemetery. Stewartsville, Missouri – Blake Burl Morgan, age 24, was born September 6, 2000 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Tracy Lynn Morgan and passed away February 16, 2024. Blake Morgan was also the son of Jared and Tara Adkins and loved his sister, Victoria Adkins.&nbsp; Blake passed away in Canton, Ohio.

Blake graduated from Stewartsville C-2 High School in 2019.&nbsp; Blake enjoyed working on electronics and his computers.&nbsp; Blake worked at the Dollar General in Stewartsville and previously worked at Altec in St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp; His latest employment was at Amazon in Ohio.&nbsp;

Blake was known for his kindness and polite demeanor.&nbsp; He enjoyed hanging out with his friends and playing video games.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his mother, Tracy Lynn Morgan.&nbsp;

Survivors include his sister, Victoria Adkins; his foster parents, Jared and Tara Adkins; grandparents Jacky and Penny Adkins; grandparents Byron and Juanita Hovenga; cousin Mackenzie Mackley and many other family and friends.
