Paul Dean Shisler, 88, Stanberry, MO passed away Monday, September 4, 2023 at an Albany, MO hospital.

He was born April 1, 1935 in Stanberry, MO the son of Harland “Dutch” and Marcella (Grantham) Shisler

Paul Dean graduated from Stanberry High School in 1953 and married Beverly June Stuart September 18, 1955. Beverly preceded him in death in 1988. A daughter Paula Elaine, and two sons, Paul Kevin and Bruce Lynn were born to this union.

On May 18, 1991 he married Ferne Smith and gained a step-daughter, Rhonda.

He began his farming career in the Grantham Community with his uncles, Roy and Everett Grantham. His whole life was spent working the land and raising livestock with his sons and later his grandsons, Clay and Steve Shisler. His hobby was work and for relaxation he found more work.

When he got away from the farm he enjoyed car races, machinery auctions, Branson and country music shows.

He leaves behind his wife, Ferne. His step-daughter Rhonda (Steve) Ford, Mt. She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on September 22, 1941, to John L. and Marie (Lollar) Murphy.

Shirley earned her master’s degree and went on to teach in the St. Joseph School District for over 20 years. She taught at Benton High School, Lafayette High School and Hillyard Technical. After retirement, she participated in adult literacy and adult education programs.

Mary Frances Logan, an exceptional family matriarch and devoted wife, was born on the 27th of December 1949, in the bustling city of Saint Louis, MO, to loving parents, Paul and Eva Kovac. The Lord called her home on the 2nd of September 2023, in the peaceful confines of her home in Saint Joseph, MO. Her life was guided by a deep-rooted faith that illuminated every day of her existence with a radiant love.

Mary graduated in the class of 1968 from Bishop LeBlond High School and married her high school sweetheart, John, on April 12, 1969. They were married for 54 years. She later made her mark in business, contributing significantly as the co-owner of Kovac’s Grocery Store. She had a keen eye for opportunity and a hand always stretched out in service, traits that were apparent in the success and longevity of the store. Her professional achievements were a testament to her tenacity, hard-working nature, and unyielding spirit.

Despite her professional accomplishments, Mary's true achievements were rooted in the home, in the loving relationships she cultivated with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Mary is survived by her devoted husband, John Logan, their children, John Paul and wife Mireya Logan, Jeannette Logan, Eric Logan and wife Ashley Logan, and Josh Logan; her grandchildren, Ryan, Isabella, Hayden, and Ezekiel, who will remember her as a doting grandma who was never too busy for hide n seek in Kovac’s grocery store or a game of cards.

She leaves behind joyful memories and a great legacy with her siblings as well - PJ Kovac and wife Ronda, Mike Kovac and wife Tami, Mark Kovac and wife Susie, Sharon Edwards and husband Scott, Michelle France and husband Todd, Matt Kovac and wife Charity. Mary's presence will be cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws whom she shared countless moments of love and laughter with.

She is preceded in death by parents, Paul and Eva Kovac, and her sister, Jeannette Kovac.

Mary was a woman endowed with love which she generously showered on those around her. She was faith-filled and selfless, radiating joy and comfort to everyone she met. Carol Burns Bayer, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed away on August 30th at home. She was born on February 1, 1937, in Youngstown, OH, the beloved first child of Robert and Alice Burns. Soon after, the family moved to Hazleton, PA, where Carol Ann was quickly joined by her siblings Robert (Bobby), Dorothy, and Mary Jean.

Growing up in Hazleton, she cultivated the qualities of kindness, responsibility, determination, love of the arts (she began playing the violin at the age of seven), and an unwavering dedication to family that would define her throughout her life.

Following graduation from nursing school, RN Carol set her sights on the bustling metropolis of New York City. There, she enjoyed working in surgery at New York Hospital, but also was plucked to become a fashion model. Most importantly, she met the love of her life, William Lang Bayer. They were married in 1959 and moved to Albany, where Bill completed medical school and their daughter Judy was born. From there, they moved first to Philadelphia and then Pittsburgh, where Barbara was born.

In 1969, they moved to Kansas City. Bill became the Executive Director of the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City, and Carol soon started her long involvement in the arts of this great city. At that time the Philharmonic was about to strike - brave Carol stepped in and had a mediation at her home that settled the strike for the moment. After several go-rounds, the Kansas City Symphony was born, and Carol was the founding President of the Friends of the Symphony. She revolutionized fundraising and awareness with phone-a-thons, group ticket sales, program advertisements, outreach concerts, and she was on the conductor search committee that brought Bill McGlaughlin to Kansas City. She also co-founded the Truman Anniversary Concert that filled RLDS auditorium for years. She was especially loyal to the Medical Arts Symphony, where she played violin and also was president for several years and hosted the annual Musicfest with 250+ people in our house on 59th street. She also founded the renowned Leopold Shopmaker Mid America Violin Competition. Seeing the need for funds for young artists led her to working with UMKC's Conservatory of Music where she became the first woman Chairman of the Board of Trustees. She started the gala Live on 55! and Live at Hallbrook! which in turn became Crescendo! Her other great love was Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company where she was chairman of the Board for many years. She was awarded the Missouri Arts Council Award, the state’s highest honor in the arts, in 1997.

With all this activity, she still found time to be the most wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, not to mention daughter and sister. She had boundless energy and did not know the meaning of the word CAN'T. She was a do-er! When daughter Barbara and son-in-law Mano Rafael opened Le Fou Frog in 1996, she was an integral part of creating the foundation for its success and did the books for over 20 years. Still, she found time for golf and travel with her husband, heartfelt talks with her daughters, and total devotion to her grandchildren. She leaves her sisters Dorothy and Mary Jean (Novalyn), sister-in-law Joyce Burns, sister-in-law Ethel Holtmann (Gary), daughters Judy and Barbara (Mano), grandchildren Noah, Ethan, Ryo, and Juliette, nieces/nephews Bill, Jill, Scott, Christine, Kelly, Steven, many grandnieces/nephews, and her grandcats Jack, Gabby, Mouse (Moon), and Roary.

Roberta M. Ewing, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023, surrounded by her family who loved her so dearly.

She was born August 24, 1941 in St. Joseph to Robert and Leona (Enyard) Mays. She grew up in St. Joseph and attended Bartlett School and Lafayette High School.

Roberta married Vernon Larry Ewing in 1969. He survives of the home.

She was a chef’s helper at the Benton Club for more than 20 years.

Roberta loved to cook and loved holiday gatherings. Everyone loved her strawberry short cake. People would make a point of coming to her house each Halloween for her popcorn balls.

She loved Christmas and decorating her house. Every room had Christmas ornaments; she loved a big tree. The outside of her house was lit up with all these lights on the fence and the reindeer in the yard.

Roberta was well-liked and touched many lives. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda; her parents; and siblings, Francis Williams, Mary Hill and Lawrence Mays.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon; children, Frances K. Hill, James O. Hill, Paula A. Ewing, and Vernon Larry Ewing, Jr. (Tanya); 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister; one brother; and special friend, Nancy Rucker.

Martin A. “Mike” Hoover, 80, of Oregon, Missouri passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at a Mound City care center.

Mike was born on July 7, 1943 in Fort Madison, Iowa to Marion and May F. (Cummings) Hoover. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1960. Mike was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his children, Joanne Morrison of Oreana, Illinois, and Donald M. Hoover of Oregon.

Mildred Louise Seider passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023 in Kansas City, MO. A visitation will be held 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.; followed by a 3:00 p.m. funeral service at Our Savior Lutheran Church of Platte City, MO. Interment will follow at the Camden Point Cemetery in Camden Point, MO. 

Mildred has requested that contributions be given to Our Savior Christian Academy—14155 Hwy. N—Platte City, MO 64079. Mildred was born January 25, 1936 in Rockville, MO to Benjamin Richard and Clara Emma (Vogt) Bracher. She was Baptized into the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ on February 23, 1936 and Confirmed on April 2, 1950. Mildred married Verlyn E. Seider on May 2, 1953, in Harrison, Arkansas. 

Verlyn was in the Air Force until 1963, and Mildred followed him to Roswell, New Mexico and to Loring Air Force Base, Maine. After leaving the Air Force, the couple resided in Gladstone, Dearborn, and finally in Platte City, MO. Mildred’s faith in the Lord was strong and fearless. She was a founding member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, committing much time and talent to the Church. As a mother and grandmother, Mildred encouraged a high sense of self-esteem, a love of learning, and respect for others. She was a willing participant in any activity that her grandchildren asked. The love of the outdoors followed Mildred to her passing. Her vegetable garden was glorious, giving ample produce, and her flowers were beautiful. Mildred’s hands were never idle—from gardening, to crocheting, to baking pies of making doughnuts. 

Mildred’s legacy is in the gift of her positive spirit and upbeat attitude. She always enjoyed life, no matter what the circumstance. A testament to her character was her warmth, her vigor, and her ability to see good in all things. Her love of Christ is the over-riding gift that she has given to her family and to those who were blessed to have known her. 

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Neil Bracher and her sister Elsie Bracher Wright. 

She is survived by her children: Paul Seider, &amp; wife Candee of Lee’s Summit, MO, Robert Seider &amp; wife Carla of Sunrise Beach, MO, Christine Seider Bunselmeyer, &amp; husband Keith of K.C., MO, Jacqueline Seider Lewis, &amp; husband Roger of K.C., MO, and Gary Seider, &amp; wife Ann of Centralia, MO; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Frank D. Yurkovich, 76, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023 at his home. He was born February 11, 1947 in St. Joseph, son of Wanda and Joseph Yurkovich. 

Frank attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated from Benton High School, class of 1965. On October 14, 1967 he married Shirley Riley at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Frank was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He worked at Seitz Foods and Sara Lee where he retired as Quality Control Inspector. Frank was a hard worker, he enjoyed doing handyman work, loved going camping and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids. &nbsp;He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the KC Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals. 

Frank was preceded in death by wife, Shirley Yurkovich in 2016, son, Rodney Yurkovich in 2018, his parents and siblings, Joseph Yurkovich, Jr., Lillian Jenkins and Nonda May Sherbo.

Leonida "Lonnie" Irene Krull, 86, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023 in St Joseph. She was born July 12, 1937 in Agency, MO, daughter of Bertha and Charles Hayes. 

She graduated from Lafayette High School, class of 1955 and also attended Manual Vocational Center. She married David Krull on February 4, 1956 in St. Joseph. Lonnie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, collecting antiques, sewing, cooking and watching old movies. Lonnie loved cats, especially her cat Olivia. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. 

Lonnie was preceded in death by husband, David Krull, her parents, son, Greg Krull, siblings, Chuck &nbsp;Hayes, Thomas Hayes, Delbert Hayes, Elsie Bond, Mary &nbsp;Marek, and Betty Johnson. 

Survivors include children, Cherie (Michael) Johnston of Sonora, CA, John (Cindy) Krull of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Mike Krull of SD, Mark (Sierra) Krull of St. Joseph, Hillari Krull of St. Joseph, and Robert (Michelle) Krull of Overland Park, KS, daughter-in-law, Angie Krull of St. Joseph, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary Leland Mace 78, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at a local health care facility. He was born January 23, 1945 in St. Joseph, son of Lorene and Homer L. Mace.

 He attended Benton High School. Gary worked many years as a Machinist. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed going to the races, riding his motorcycles, and listening to bluegrass and Willie Nelson. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Trenda Mace in 2009, brothers, Rolland Mace, Homer E. Mace, Dennis "Eddie" Mace, infant sister, Joy Elaine Mace, and great-grandson, Simon Turner. 

Survivors include daughters, Belinda (Randy) Gann of St Joseph, Pamela (Mike) Swift of Mt. Washington, KY, Sherri Spaeth of Platte City, MO and Bailey (Christian) Turner, grandchildren, Bryson, Josh, Tyler, Lexi Turner, Brandon, and Zachary Swift, Nicholas Mace, Courtney Spaeth-Eddy and Ryder and Gracelyn Turner, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tamara Lorraine (Roberts) Avalos 55, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in St. Joseph. She was born May 25, 1968 in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter of late Peggy &amp; Frank Roberts. 

Tamara was preceded in death by her parents, brother Brian Roberts, a step-brother, and a step-sister. 

She is survived by sons: Caleb McArthur and Jason Roberts, two granddaughters, two grandsons, four sisters, and 3 step-sisters.

Albert Ray Budine 72, of St.  Joseph, MO, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at his home. He was born February 11, 1951 in Saint Joseph, MO, son of the late Evelyn Kelmel and Albert Budine.

 He graduated from Central High School, and he attended Missouri Western. He worked in the food and funeral service industries. 

Survivors include: sisters, Becky (Jeff) Cruz and Barb Ballard, nephew, Jeff, and nieces, Maria &amp; Rosita.

Daniel Lee "Danny" Huffman, 74 of Savannah, Mo, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at a local healthcare facility.

Danny was born on February 23,1949 in Helena Missouri, to the late Glenn and Jean  Huffman.

He was a graduate of Savannah High School and went on to spend his career years at Whitaker Cable and Stuppy's Floral. 

While working at Whitaker's, Danny met his future wife Connie Burgess. Mrs. Huffman preceded him in death on June 21, 2020.

In addition to his wife and his parents,  Mr. Huffman was preceded in death by his sister; Sylvia Maris.

He is survived by his brother; Larry (Julia) Huffman of Centenial Colorado along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. 

Graveside service and Interment 3:00 PM, Tuesday, September 05, 2023 at the Bethel Cemetery in Cosby, Missouri, with Rex Strayer officiating.

Vesper Blaine Oswald, 87, of St. Joseph, MO went to be with his beloved Heavenly Father on August 31, 2023. He was born on July 25, 1936, in Beaver Crossing, NE to Jacob and Mabel Oswald. He graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1954.

After completing IW Service, he married Janice Roth on May 21, 1959. Ves completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Nebraska in 1965 and received his certification as a physical therapist at the University of Kansas in 1966.

Ves and Jan raised three sons while he worked as a physical therapist in Missouri and Illinois before returning to St. Joseph to work at Methodist Medical Center from 1969-1984. After working as a home health physical therapist in Kirksville, MO from 1984-1991, he returned to St. Joseph until his retirement in 2001.

For Ves, Jesus was the Way, the Truth, and the Life, leading to his being active in the many churches in which he served as a member. He loved to share his patented hugs with his brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and friends across the country while sharing the love of Jesus. Once he became a grandparent, his capacity for joy increased exponentially. This was especially evident in the creative nicknames he bestowed on each that they continue to cherish. It was more proof of Ves being a man of God who could be trusted to support all those that he loved. His humor, love and laughter will be missed — but never forgotten.

Ves was preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Mabel as well as his older sisters Darlene and Jeannine and his younger brother Ron. He is survived by his wife Jan, his sons Jim (Julie), Jay (Heather), and Rich (Torrie), his grandchildren Jill (Cameron), Jenna, Josh, Charles (Sierra), Luke, Gwendolyn, Addie, and Grant, and his great-grandchildren Evie and Tatum.

The family will host visitation for friends and family from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, September 7 at Grace Calvary Chapel, 5103 South 50th Street, St. Joseph. A memorial service will also be held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 8 at Grace Calvary Chapel. All are welcome to attend both.

Dora Clydene Grubb, 90, Maysville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

She was born February 10, 1933 to Clyde and Evelyn (Thompson) in Cotter, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Albert Nicola and Orville Kelly.

Dora enjoyed bird watching, Bible study, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Jennifer Justus, Jeffrey Grubb (Pat), and Joseph Grubb, Jr. (Mary); grandchildren, Joanna Kernes (Mike), Robert L. Justus, III (Amanda), Mary “Catey” Justus, Adam Justus, Cary Grubb (Laura), Sterling Grubb, and Damion Schrack (Devin); great grandchildren, Conner Lillard, Michael Kernes, Jacob Grubb, Lila Grubb, Millie Krebs, Jameson Nottingham, Juniper Nottingham, and Blu Jones; niece, Kellie Eden; nephew, Tom Nicola; great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Johnnie Ray Deiter, 76 of King City, MO passed away Monday, September 4,2023 at a Stanberry, MO nursing home.

He was born April 12, 1947 in Plattsburg, Missouri the son of Carl and Mildred (Thompson) Deiter.

On June 10, 2010, he married Wilma Ross in King City, MO. She survives of the home. Johnnie served his country in the United States Army and Navy. He was very proud of his Military Service. Johnnie worked at the restaurant, Ma &amp;amp; Pa’s Kettle, in Cameron, MO. He loved to go fishing and really enjoyed making model cars and planes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 siblings.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Wilma, are a daughter, Elizabeth Helee (Michael), Altamont, MO; 3 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Kartchaske and brother-in-law, Willis Ross both of King City, MO; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.

Johnnie has been cremated under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, King City, MO.

Services and inurnment will be held by the family at a later date.

Buddy loved spending time with family and friends. He loved to listen to music and go fishing and was a country boy at heart.

Buddy Michael Walters 1997 - 2023

Doug Ray, 59, passed away on August 18, 2023. Doug was born March 30, 1964 in Dighton, KS to A. Elroy Ray and Betty (Moody) Kupfersmith.

He Graduated from Marysville High School in 1982. In the past he worked for Beattie Co-op, Union Pacific Railroad, Wertenberger Trucking and K-State Facilities.

Doug was best known for his quiet nature and his mischievous grin. Doug was a jack-of-all trades that enjoyed tinkering with mechanical and carpentry projects and everything in between. He was also an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and spend time outside with his dogs. Most of all Doug enjoyed spending time with his family especially his nieces and nephews whom “Uncle Doug” patiently taught many a life lesson. Doug’s selfless dedication to his family and his mischievous grin will be dearly missed.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Betty and Fred Kupfersmith and Jackie Ray; brother-in-law Ed Miller.

He is survived by his father, Elroy, St. Joe, MO; Sisters: Debbie Miller, Marysville, Dorothy (Jerome) Watson, Apple Valley, CA; Diana (Steve) Shropshire, Cartersville, GA and Dodie (Wayne) Ray of Wamego.

Nephews, Dusty, (Jessy); Chris (Dewy); David; Stewart (AnnaMarie). Nieces: Jennifer (Chris), Jessica (Anthony) and Jackie; and several Great Nieces and Nephews.

Doug will be inurned on November 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Holton Cemetery, with his parents, Betty and Fred.

Tamara Lorraine (Roberts) Avalos 55, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday August 30, 2023 in St. Joseph. She was born May 25, 1968 in Iowa City, Iowa daughter of late Peggy &amp; Frank Roberts. 

She is survived by sons: Caleb McArthur, and and Jason Roberts, two granddaughters, two grandsons, four sisters, and 3 step-sisters. The family has no scheduled services at this time. 

She will be cremated under the care of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Tamara Lorraine (Roberts) Avalos 55, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday August 30, 2023 in St. Joseph. She was born May 25, 1968 in Iowa City, Iowa daughter of late Peggy &amp; Frank Roberts. Tamara was preceded in death by her parents, brother Brian Roberts, a step-brother, and a step-sister. Robert E. Gann, 90, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at his home. He was born January 31, 1933 in St. Joseph, son of Elva and Virgil Gann. 

He graduated from Benton High School, class of 1952. On April 8, 1960, he married Virginia &nbsp;Brunner in St. Joseph . He served in the US Navy and is a Veteran of the Korean War. &nbsp;Bob was a Union Painter with Local 98 in St. Joseph, working with Pearl Brewing Company, later Goetz Brewery and EM Gann Painting company alongside his brother, Dale. Bob could often be found working in his yard and tinkering in the garage. He enjoyed working puzzles, and was often reciting old limericks and telling life stories. 

He was preceded in death by wife, Virginia Gann in 2022, his parents, brother, Dale Gann, sisters, Lois Burnett, Dorothy Burnett and Sara Peck. 

Survivors include daughters, Juanita (Mike) O'Callaghan and Diane Kline of St. Joseph, sisters, Betty Hovey, Glenrose Seward, Elizabeth McVicker, Judith Goban, grandchildren, Courtney (Clint) Moran, Heather (Brad) Taylor, Brett (Jennifer) Kline, and Erin (Justin) Jones, great-grandchildren, Clareece, Gage, Hunter, Chloe, Maylee, Presley, Wyatt, and Elliott, and his cat, Tommy. As Bob would say, see you later, Alligator.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at &nbsp;Memorial Park Cemetery.

Terry Williams, 56, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023.

He was born March 9, 1967 in Raytown, Missouri to Robert and Barbara (Rathke) Williams. He was a graduate of Hickman Mills High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

Terry proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 13 years.

He loved reading, especially about history, military/war and fantasy. In his younger years he enjoyed camping.

A quiet, reserved man, Terry beamed with pride in his daughter Holly. She meant the world to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Kevin Williams and Daryl Williams.

Survivors include his daughter, Holly Williams; sisters, Cindy Williams, Laurie Gregg (Jack), Robin Chapman (Cheryl), Karen Cline (Corey), and Kathy Thomasson (Mike); former wife, Angelica Williams; stepdaughter, Astrid Gonzalez (Alexander Sheafer); aunt, Jean Harris (Dale); numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
