Erma May Ritchie, 83, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024 at a local health care facility. She was born April 23, 1941 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of Adelia and Shirley Leslie.

 She attended Dekalb High School. On January 31, 1959, she married Jimmy Ritchie, who preceded her in death in 2001. She spent many years at home taking care of her family. She loved to cook, playing cards and bowling. 

Erma was preceded in death by husband, Jimmy Ritchie, father, Shirley Leslie, her mother and step-father Adelia and Russell Gullick, son, Roger Ritchie, brothers, Lloyd, Frank and Bobby Joe Leslie, sister, June Stagner, granddaughter, Jennifer Boyer and brother-in-law, Mike Pitts.

He was born August 26, 1974, to Irvin and Mildred (Maddox) Wilson in Big Lake, Missouri

He married Crystal Meers on January 4, 2002. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2023.

Mark was a car salesman for many years and enjoyed spending time with his family.

SGM Tex “Conley” West, Jr., U.S. Army (Ret.), 80, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024.

He was born January 26, 1944 in Kayjay, Kentucky to Conley West, Sr. and Sally (Lawson) West.

Conley enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963, where he became a skilled sniper. He served five tours in Vietnam and earned four Purple Hearts for his injuries. He retired from the military after 28 years of dedicated service in July 1991, having achieved the rank of Sergeant Major. He was a member of the American Legion and the Purple Heart Association.

Conley moved to St. Joseph, where he was a ROTC instructor at Missouri Western State College from 1984 to 1991. He then was a JROTC instructor at Central High School from 1991 to 2005. He could outrun and outlast any of his students. He enjoyed going to Pigeon Hill gun range with his grandchildren and students, who had the opportunity to learn from a skilled marksman.

Conley married Carol Ann Riepen on January 3, 1987. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2024.

A joyful man known for always singing or whistling, Conley loved fishing and dogs. He and Carol spent many hours together with woodworking projects in the shop. In his later years, Conley enjoyed tending to his yard.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Carol; his parents; and siblings, Rondal “Royce” West and Dorothy Hamilton.

He was born January 23, 1950, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Verne and Gertrude Felts.

Greg graduated from Central High School in 1968, and later attended Missouri Western State University.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Greg was a member of the local YMCA for many years, where he enjoyed playing racket ball and hand ball. In his younger years, he was a talented athlete who excelled in football, basketball and tennis. Greg also enjoyed cars and motorcycles, making a hobby of mechanical work. He also loved dogs.

Survivors include his sister, Christine Claxton (Steve), nieces, nephews and cousins.

Greg’s friends and family would like to extend their gratitude to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron for their caring and supporting staff during Greg’s time there.

Jean (Ogden) Blanton, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 20, 2024.

She was born December 24, 1930 in Strickler, Arkansas to Charles and Dona (Cantrell) Ogden.

Jean married James “Buck” Blanton on April 19, 1947. He preceded her in death on November 15, 2006.

She was a pricing specialist for American Electric for many years, retiring in 1991.

Jean was an awesome cook and baker, with homemade noodles and fried chicken being two of her family’s favorites. The grandchildren looked forward to Christmas dinner at Jean’s house, where they would get to eat on her fine china.

She also enjoyed sewing and doing crossword and word search puzzles.

Jean was a former member of Community Presbyterian Church.

A very loving person, Jean was the best mother and a great grandmother. Her love of children led many to call her “Grandma Jean.”

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Buck; her parents; granddaughter, Sandra R. Judd; siblings, Harvey G. Ogden, Harold P. Ogden, Josephine Palmer, Earl Dean Ogden, and Kathryn Ent.

Survivors include her children, Mary C. Blanton, Marsha L. Wright (Dale), and Janet K. Wells (Kevin); four grandchildren, William James Ellis (Lesley), Stacie Loyd (Bill), Jason T. Sharon Kay Maynard Royle, 79, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the evening of the harvest moon.

She was born February 9, 1945, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Col. Stanley Getchel Maynard, Sr. and Mary Louise Jacoby Maynard.

She received a degree in English literature at the University of Missouri. While attending school, she worked as a nurse’s aide which ignited an interest in the field of nursing. She then studied nursing at St. Joseph Sisters’ Hospital, became a registered nurse, and committed her life to working as a nurse for nearly 40 years until her retirement.

She was a caring person and would always go out of her way to help. Sharon was passionate about cats, birds, and all forms of wildlife.

She enjoyed birdwatching, reading, had an interest in gemstones. Sharon was fond of sharing stories with friends and neighbors. She loved food cuisines from all over the world.

Sharon was a unique personality and always true to herself.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, Stanley G. Maynard, Jr. and younger sister, Elizabeth M. Maynard.

Her survivors include her sister, Zora Maynard; nephew, Vonn A. Walter; niece, Chloe D. Maynard; great-nephew, Stanley V. Maynard; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

George E. Cammarn, 73, formerly of Pratt, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 at his home in Mayetta. &nbsp;

He was born March 9, 1951, the son of Alvin and Edith Dixon Cammarn.

George had worked in the oil fields all his life, mostly for Pratt Well Service, but he also drove trucks for R. C. Williams.

He and his wife, Theresa (Mitchell) Roberts, were together for thirty years. &nbsp;She preceded him in death on December 27, 2020.

George was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles Roberts, five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Tonda Wolfe, Tulsa, OK and Misty Fuentes (David), Mayetta, a son-in-law, Robert Long, Azle, TX, two brothers, Danny Cammarn, Auburn, NE and Richie Cammarn, Pratt, seven grandchildren, April Bumgarner, Brett Long, Clariece Long, Anthony Mullins (Kayla), Courtney Culver, Trevor Roberts and Maddison Roberts, and four great grandchildren, Anastasia Bumgarner, Jonathan Quijano, Elizabeth Maria Jane Quijano and Nevaeh Williams.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. George will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service.

George E. Cammarn 1951 - 2024

Rodney M Karns, age 76, of Platte City, Missouri entered this life on February 20, 1948 in East Chicago, Indiana. He was the son of Ralph R and Lilyan M Karns. 

Rodney grew up in Homewood, Illinois and was a graduate of Homewood Flossmoor High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology and Master’s Degree in Special Education at Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO as well as being a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. 

He received his Education Specialist Degree at University of Missouri Kansas City. His fulfilling career in Education began as Director of Treatment for Missouri Department of Mental Health and over 30 years with the Platte Valley Education Cooperative serving as Assistant Superintendent of Special Programs serving over 9500 students and families in 12 school districts throughout Buchanan, Clay, Clinton, Platte and Ray counties administering Parents as Teachers, Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Community Programs. 

Throughout his career in education, Rodney was an instructor at 8 colleges and universities in Kansas and Missouri. Rodney rounded out his education career consulting with various Charter Schools throughout Kansas City and found that work extremely rewarding.

His greatest accomplishments were the love of his family. Teaching us all how to live life to the fullest while having the most fun. Rodney married his loving wife Karen on June 22, 1990 in Lake Tahoe. They had many years together filled with family memories, boating, travels, culinary experiences, camping adventures and a lifetime of fun with their children and grandchildren.

Rodney spent his last years at Addington Place of Shoal Creek making friends, sharing life experiences and enjoying activities, adventures, laughs and love. Our family is so very grateful for the love and care he received every day.

Rodney peacefully passed away on September 20, 2024 at his home at Addington Place of Shoal Creek. Rodney will be greatly missed by his daughters, Jennifer Karns (Corey) of Platte City, Megan Sams (Brad) of Excelsior Springs, step-daughter Brooke Peters (Rodney) of St. Joseph. Grandchildren Tyler Karns (Annie and Mark), Collin Sams, Ethan Sams, Andy Peters, Trevor Peters (Taylor) and Madalyn Peters (Camdyn). Great grandchildren Briar Peters, Bryndle Peters and Breightyn Peters. Rodney M Karns, age 76, of Platte City, Missouri entered this life on February 20, 1948 in East Chicago, Indiana. He was the son of Ralph R and Lilyan M Karns. Rodney grew up in Homewood, Illinois and was a graduate of Homewood Flossmoor High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology and Master’s Degree in Special Education at Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO as well as being a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. He received his Education Specialist Degree at University of Missouri Kansas City. Alice Ward, 85, of Kansas City, MO passed away, July 26, 2024.

She was born on November 22, 1938 to Lloyd and Evelyn (Holt) Self in Henryetta, OK. She graduated from Liberty High School in Brentwood, CA. Alice graduated from Missouri Western State College and also received her master’s degree in education from UMKC.

On October 4, 1960 she was united in marriage to B. Robert Ward. After their marriage they lived in the North Kansas City area where they made their home. Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death on August 24, 2011.

Alice was a teacher at Linden West Elementary until she retired in 1998. She loved gardening, quilting, animals and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Helen Montes, Sharron Vincent, Robert Self, Jerry Self, and Jimmie Self.

Alice is survived by her children, G. Robert Ward, Melinda Ward, and Matthew (Mindy) Ward; grandchildren, Patrick Ward and Dani Ward; sisters, Sondra (Johnny) Barnett and Jane Oliver; her aunt and best friend, Gladys Chastain; several nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends.

Alice Ward 1938 - 2024

Dudley Hudson Gordon, 75, of Everett, WA, formerly of Dearborn, MO passed away while coming home from a family vacation on August 17, 2024.

He was born on August 2, 1949, and grew up on a farm near Dearborn, MO and graduated from North Platte High School in 1967. Dudley then attended Northwest Missouri State College. He was a member of the Air National Guard in St. Joseph and joined the Air Force Reserve when he moved to Seattle, WA, and retired after 20 years. Dudley made his home in Everett, WA and worked as a machinist at Boeing for 33 years.

Dudley enjoyed garage sales, and his home was full of “garage sale finds.” He loved being around his children and grandchildren and traveling with his family. Dudley was a very generous person and would share anything with others. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hudson and Julia Gordon, and his daughter, Heather Gordon.

Dudley is survived by his son, Jeff Gordon; daughter, Julia (Leonard) Steinkopf; grandchildren, Michael Gordon, J.J. Olinger, Payton Gordon, and Evan and Brenna Steinkopf; brother, Joe Gordon; and sister, Elizabeth (Wayne) Porter; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Angela Nell Womack, 59, of Smithville, MO passed away September 20, 2024.

She was born on January 29, 1965, to Kenneth Paul and Beverly LaRue (Heyrend) Jacobs in Pocatello, Idaho. Angela was a “military brat” who lived on several military bases all over the United States while growing up. She graduated from Monroe High School in Monroe, Michigan. Angela received her nursing degree from the University of South Dakota.

On December 19, 1987, she was united in marriage to Peter Alan Womack. After their marriage they lived in Omaha, NE, Beresford, SD and in 2010 they moved to Smithville, MO where they made their home.

Angela was currently working at North Kansas City Hospital. She attended Vineyard Church in Kansas City. She loved baking and cooking and was an avid Royals fan. Angela was wonderful friend, wife and mom who will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ken and Bev Jacobs and her brother Kenny Jacobs,

Angela is survived by her husband Pete Womack; her children Brandon Womack, Brianna (Dan) Isenberg and Zachary Womack; her fur baby Remi; brothers Terry (Alla) Jacobs and Tim Jacobs; mother-in-law and father-in-law Oma and Opa; sisters-in-law Heidi (Jeff) Wilson, Tamara Womack and Amy (Brian) Reid; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Jerry Dale Collins, 69, of Robinson, Kansas passed away Friday, September 20, 2024, surrounded by his family, at his home.

Jerry was born on August 1, 1955, in Atchison, Kansas to Henry and Louise (Bomberger) Collins.

Jerry worked as a mechanic all his life, working for the City of Atchison and Doniphan County Road and Bridge.

Jerry married Linda Ross on January 21, 1972, in Atchison, Kansas. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jason Collins, brothers, Jimmy and David Collins, and sisters, Mona Simpson and Thelma Betts.

Jaime enjoyed going to the casino, doing some old fashion camping, and casting out a line. Jaime also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jaime is survived by both of her parents, three sons, Dustin (Andrea) Goodman, Lawrence, KS, Colton Goodman, Horton, KS, and Xavier Biasch, Topeka, KS, brother, Jim Goodman, Atchison, KS, and sisters Kim (Lori) Goodman, Nortonville, KS, and Samantha (Joe) Wolfe. Wayne Alan Stout, 73, of Ames, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at his daughter's home in Henderson, NV.  He was born March 27, 1951 in Ames, Iowa, son of Helen and Marvin Stout. 

Wayne graduated from Winterset Senior High School, class of 1970. He worked many years for Pittsburg Steel and later Composite Technologies, where he retired. Wayne enjoyed going bargain shopping, anywhere he could find a good deal.  He also enjoyed playing the slot machines in Las Vegas. 

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ted and Matt Stout and sister, Susan Stout. 

Survivors include: his daughter, Jennifer (Gabe) Lataban of Henderson, NV,  brother, Bill (Florie) Stout of Winterset, IA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Our loving mother and grandmother, Betty June (Schaber) Crawford, age 95, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born June 20, 1929, in Amazonia, MO., the daughter of the late John and Cecil (Moser) Schaber. She graduated from Lafayette High School, and the St. Joseph Junior College. Betty was a member of St. James Catholic Church and St. James Altar Society where she served as secretary for many years. &nbsp;She was also a member of the Sparta Club. She was a dedicated prayer warrior, who loved praying for her immediate &nbsp;and extended family daily. Faith, family, and friends were her life. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved life on the farm, time spent in the garden, and watching God’s creation flourish.&nbsp;

Betty was proceeded in death by Glen Crawford, her beloved husband of 50 years, her brother Edward Schaber and her son-in-law Robert Carpenter. 

Those who will cherish her memory are her five children, Cathy Carlton, Cumming, GA, Bob (Marsha) Crawford, Lee’s Summit, MO, John (Lana) Crawford, Hamilton, MO, Debby (Scott) Gann and Susan Carpenter of St. Joseph, MO. Fifteen great-grandchildren, Finley and Henry Boozer, David and Theo Crawford, Will and Ginny Crawford, Adelaide and Charlotte Miller, Lydia, Luke and &nbsp;Theodore Nystrom, John and James Crawford, Fern Morrison and Stetson Crawford, and her sister-in-law Kaylene Schaber. The rosary will be recited at 5:30 pm Thursday, with the family to receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday, at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, at 11 am Friday, September 27, 2024 at St. James Catholic Church, Fr. Jonathan Davis Celebrant. Betty June Crawford 1929 - 2024

Marvin Jerry Pierce 81, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 in Agency. He was born October 8, 1942 in Leavenworth, Kansas, son of the late Martha &amp; Harvey Pierce. 

He married Donna Kay DeMoss on June 7th, 1995 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was a lifelong policeman serving over 40 years in Leavenworth and Oklahoma City police departments. He was the 1st police officer at the scene at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City bombing. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. He enjoyed Square dancing, camping, and golf. 

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents. 

He is survived by wife, Donna Kay Pierce, son, Keith (Jennifer) Pierce, Agency, MO, a sister, Sharon Pierce of San Bruno, CA, granddaughter, Mersadies Pierce, her children: Blake, Aylee, and Corday, granddaughter, Shelbie (Riley) Cobb, their children: Runlynn and Winslet, granddaughters, Nevaeh and Amariah Hazelton, stepson, Alan (Robin) Benson, grandson, Ben (April) Davis, his children: Lynzie and Brinley, granddaughter, Lauren (Jason) Milam, her children: Asher and Emma, and granddaughter, Nichole (Justin) Harvey, her child Mavis.

Mary "Denise" Lewis, 68, of St. Joseph, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024. &nbsp;

She was born on June 1, 1956 to Jim and Dee Jordan. Denise attended Cathedral Catholic School and graduated in 1974 from Bishop LeBlond High School.

She spent over 30 years working at Cablevision. She then started a new chapter in life and became a co-owner of Muny Inn.

Denise loved horse riding and attending horse shows. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whatever adventure that might be.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Terry Jordan and Michele Jordan.

Survivors include her children, Krissi (David) Kretzer and Lexi (Corey) McGuire; grandchildren, Breanna and Trey Kretzer, Finn, Kieran, and Rory McGuire.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm followed by a prayer service at the funeral home.

Pam was born on March 5, 1950, in Long Beach, California, to John S. Courtney and Ida L. Courtney (Frogge) and lived a life full of passion and purpose.&nbsp;

For 31 years, Pam was the proud owner and operator of East Hills Cleaners, where her dedication to her business earned her numerous awards and recognition as a remarkable businesswoman.&nbsp;

Pam married Merlin L. Osborn on November 23, 1994, in Bridal Cave. Together, they shared a love for farming, holding horse clinics, and trail riding.&nbsp;

Pam found joy in traveling with Merlin to rodeos and cherished every moment spent in nature with her horses. Pam was a member of Frederick boulevard Baptist Church. An avid reader, she particularly enjoyed the works of James Patterson, and she was known for her warmth and hospitality, hosting gatherings for holidays and special occasions with friends and family. Pam’s life was a testament to the power of love, generosity, and resilience. Her warmth and spirit will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her loving circle of family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.&nbsp;

Pamela was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents; sister, Kay and daughter, Sharon.

Edith was born in St. Joseph to Lee &amp; Marjorie (Dougherty) Jordan. She graduated from Agency High School. Edith worked as a secretary, then married Richard Cook in St. Joseph on February 11, 1950. Richard preceded her in death on April 8, 2016.

Edith is survived by two daughters: Margaret Augustine and Nancy Shepherd (Stephen). Two grandchildren; Matthew Shepherd and Jennifer Brown; three great grandchildren: Averi, Maddie, and Noah; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Edith is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and four brothers.

Edith's service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel at 2:00 pm. The visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Agency, Missouri.

Caroline J. Fankhauser, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Friday, September 20, 2024&nbsp;after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Caroline was born September 24, 1935, in St. Joseph, MO, to Allen and Mary&nbsp;Calhoon. In 1953 she married Marvin Fankhauser, Jr. after graduation from&nbsp;Central High School and they shared 71 years of marriage together.

She worked for Safeway grocery until she earned her BS in education from Missouri Western State University in 1971. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from Northwest Missouri State University in 1974 and achieved an Educational Specialist Degree in 1980 from the University of Missouri - KansasCity.

Caroline taught in many schools within the St. Joseph School District, most&nbsp;recently at Building Bridges until she retired in 2002 after 31 years of teaching.

She loved being a reading instructor and thoroughly enjoyed her students.&nbsp;She devoted her life to being an educator, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband Marvin Fankhauser, Jr.; daughter Kristina Miller (Allan); daughter-in-law Rhonda Hoselton; four grandchildren Kathryn Miller, Daniel Miller, Drew Hoselton (Samantha), Blair Hoselton; great-granddaughters,&nbsp;Sutton and Emry; other relatives, friends, and a host of former students.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her parents; son Marvin A. Fankhauser III; sister Mary Cochran; and brother Allen Calhoon.

Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.

JT was born in Plattsburg, MO to Blanch (Hatcher) and James Potter. He graduated from Plattsburg High School and two years of college. After graduation, he joined the Army in 1962, serving three years, then reenlisted into the Army National Guard. JT married Delores Adams on September 10, 1966. She preceeded him in death in 2000.

JT retired from Shamrad Metal Fabricators after 49 1/2 years of service. JT was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Boilermakers Union.

JT is survived by his son, David Stafford; four grandchildren: Heather Daniels (Mike), John Culbertson (Rose), Becky Frazer, and Mike Frazer. Seven great-grandchildren: Andrew, Cody, Jaidyn, Jaxzen, Javaan, Jaztyen, and Oaklan. Four great great grandchildren: Emily, Kenny, Kaytie, and Paisley. JT is also survived by two brothers: Earl and Allen Potter, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
