SOLDIER – Barbara E. Grau, 77, of Soldier, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at her home.

She was born June 20, 1946 at Sabetha, the daughter of Vernon and Dorothy Woolaway Renyer. &nbsp;She graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Auburn High School in 1964.

Barbara worked for the U.S. Marine Corps, and then for thirty-three years in administration at Sante Fe Railroad in Topeka.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton and the Altar Society at the church. &nbsp;She also helped with the Religious Education program at the church.

She married John Grau on January 10, 1970 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. &nbsp;He survives, of the home.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Kathryn Caviness, and a son, Brad Grau.

Other survivors include a son-in-law, Andy Caviness (Cassandra), Hoyt, two brothers, Gary Renyer and Dennis Renyer, both of Topeka, one sister, Karen Tolbert, Lawrence, and three grandchildren, Colin Caviness, Ethan Caviness and Lauryn Caviness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 27th at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Soldier Cemetery. &nbsp; Barbara will lie in state Tuesday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. &nbsp;Memorials are suggested to St. Dominic Catholic Church, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1034, Holton, KS &nbsp;66436. &nbsp;

Our beautiful Irish Angel, Jean Alice Manuel, 86, of Havensville, went to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. &nbsp;

She was born September 18, 1937 at Newton, the daughter of Mack and Ethlyn Hargett Fellingham. &nbsp;She graduated from Phillips High School in Phillips, Texas in 1956.

Jean was a full time farm wife. &nbsp;She had also worked as a Nurse’s Aide/Ward Clerk at Community Hospital, Onaga for thirty-five years, at the Pyramid Dress Factory in Onaga, and at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga. &nbsp;She was a member of the Lutheran Faith.

She married her honey, Tex R. Manuel, on April 7, 1957 at Borger, TX. &nbsp;He survives, of the home.

Jean loved spending time with family and friends and always had a welcoming heart to anyone stopping by. She also loved celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with her kids and grandkids at the casino. Jean also loved hosting family get togethers and gatherings at the farm.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ethlyn Fellingham and Ross &amp; Stella Manuel, a son-in-law, Bill Wesley, a sister, Janet Rannals, and a brother, Mick Fellingham.

Other survivors include two daughters, Tammy Wesley and Terry Jordan (Terry), all of Havensville, a son, Tex “Rick” Manuel, II (Teri), Havensville, a sister-in-law, Merlinda Fellingham, Albuquerque, NM, a brother-in-law, Dwayne Martin, Topeka, seven grandchildren, Brandi Wesley, Chance Wesley, Colt Wesley (Richelle), Tanner Jordan, Casey Parker (Scott), Tayla Manuel and Tex “Trey” Manuell, III, nine great grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews.

John Wayne Cluck, 86, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, surrounded by family at his home in Wathena, Kansas.

John Wayne was born on April 18, 1937, in Highland, Kansas to John F. and Katherine E. (Jackson) Cluck. The family moved to Bendena, Ks where he spent his early childhood working with his dad and brothers on the farm. He graduated from Bendena High School in 1955, stayed on the family farm a couple more years, worked a short time with Phillips Petroleum in KC then enlisted in the Army.

Upon returning from service in Germany, John Wayne began a 29-year career with Quaker Oats Co, serving in various positions, while still farming. Following his retirement from Quakers, he went to work for Rural Water District #5 in NEK and was named Rural Water District Manager of the year for the state of Kansas in 2000. On the side he would invest in houses to remodel.

John, or Wayne as many knew him, was a man of many talents and trades. He enjoyed fixing up old tractors, making amazing woodworking projects, and helping anyone that needed a job done.

His free time was spent traveling with his wife/family, playing cards with friends or sitting on the porch swing enjoying the view.

John Wayne married his high school sweetheart Janice Ricklefs on February 3, 1961, in Platte City, Missouri. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Larry Wayne Cluck, brother, Connie Cluck, and sister, Geraldine Clark.

Additional survivors, children, Randy Cluck (Julie), and Rhonda Cluck, St. Joseph, Missouri.

9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Robert K. “BJ” Hund, Jr., 42, Atchison, Kansas, died Thursday, March 21, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Hund has been cremated and no formal services are planned at this time. Interment will be at a later date at Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, Missouri.

Robert was born April 5, 1981, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Robert K. Hund, Sr., and Regina Marie (Betts) Hund. He attended Martin East and Martin West Schools and graduated from Atchison High School.

Robert was employed with Golden Eagle Casino and St. Jo Frontier Casino. He liked cooking, assembling legos and 3D Puzzles. He had a passion for gaming either console or computer. His favorite time of the year was Halloween.

Survivors include his mother Regina Hund, Atchison, KS, an uncle Paul Betts, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, two uncles and an aunt.

Donald G Buttron, passed peacefully at his home in Nortonville into the arms of his Heavenly Father on March 20, 2024. He will be greatly missed by his wife Linda and all who know him.

Donald was born July 1, 1941, to Carl and Verna Button who resided outside of Nortonville at the Kleopper family farm. Donald was baptized into Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Church where he became a life-long member, trustee, treasurer, and elder. He graduated from Nortonville High School in the class of 1959, after which he moved to Lawrence to attend the University of Kansas to pursue a degree in mathematics. One of the many highlights of his college career was meeting the love of his life Linda Buttron (Hemphill). They were married shortly after at Trinity Lutheran Church on June 26, 1966. One year later Don joined the US Air Force and was accepted into pilot training where he served 8 years throughout the Vietnam War. Even after returning Don continued to serve in the Missouri Air National Guard in St. Joseph and was the squadron commander during the Persian Gulf War, retiring a Lieutenant Colonel. During his time in the military Don flew C-130 and KC-135 refueler planes. Locals nearby often remember looking to the sky as Don flew over his home watching over the community below. Don had always envisioned himself returning to the family farm and was able to pursue his love of agriculture and hard work with his brother Ed for over 40 years. Throughout those years he poured his heart and soul into the land, and created a lasting legacy that became a way of life many still admire. Part of that legacy was his heart for service and dedication to those who needed a helping hand. He spent much of his time helping to start the Nortonville food pantry and deliver Christmas gifts to anyone in need, never hopeful for approval or recognition. Don’s unmistakable laugh and contagious smile were with him until the end. His source of unwavering joy and faith has, and will always be, his devotion to the Lord who he now walks hand in hand with into the gates of Heaven.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Kelly (Russ) Jobbins and Kristy (Jeff) Prickett, siblings, Ken (Regina) Buttron, Ed (Linda) Buttron, and Cathy Nichols, and grandchildren Kayla (Austin) Trowbridge, Ty Jobbins, Elle Strother, Aubrey Prickett, Ryker Prickett, and Brody Prickett. He is proceeded in death by his parents Carl and Verna Buttron, brother Bob Buttron, and brother-in-law Carl Nichols. His visitation will be held on March 25, 2024, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and his funeral will be held on March 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., both at Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Nortonville. Memorial donations can be made to the Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Endowment Fund or the Wamego Honor Flight.

Truman Campbell 76, of Faucett, Missouri, peacefully passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 at his home. He was born June 6, 1947 in St. Joseph to John Thomas (Teeter) Campbell and Mildred Jane Duncan. He was a member of the Faucett Christian Church. Truman graduated from Faucett High School, and received his BS in Agriculture from Missouri Western State University. He was a lifetime Farmer on the family's Century Farm. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War Era, and was a member of the Faucett Betterment Club, Treasurer of the Faucett Cemetery, and President of the Yates Cemetery. On March 16, 1968 he married Louise D. Cable. &nbsp;Family and friends remember him as a kind and hard-working father, who enjoyed playing cards and watching his grandchildren play baseball. He was an avid Cardinal's baseball fan who liked old western movies.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son-in-law, Mark Saunders. Survivors include: his loving wife, Louise, daughter, Stacie Saunders of Golden Valley, MN, son, Joshua (Susan) Campbell of Faucett, grandchildren, Jeffery and Julianna Campbell, and Calvin and Porter Saunders. 

Truman will be cremated under the direction of Rupp Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Faucett Cemetery, c/o Rupp Funeral Home or the donors choice.

James Truman Campbell 1947 - 2024

Barbara Ann Springer, 67, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at her home. She was born May 24, 1956 in St. Joseph, daughter of Esther (Suthers) and William Johnston. She attended Savannah High School. Barb loved to travel, and shared her experience with others, working as a Travel Agent for many years. Her favorite trips were going to the ocean. She was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. 

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Joshua Springer, and sister, Linda Woods. Survivors include children, Ricky (Christie) Ellis of St Joseph, Julie (Jeremy) Davis of Savannah, MO, and Jennifer (Josh) Casteneda of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Emberlynn, Vanessa, Aaliyah, Brooklyn, Joshua, Tori, Kenna, Matthew and Rylee.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Monday, March 25, 2024 at Green Valley Baptist Church. Pastor David Mason, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday at the church. Paul Coffman, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

He was born April 13, 1940 to David A. and Vera G. (Carlile) Coffman in Magnolia, Iowa.

Lonnie was a machinist at Leaverton’s for 45 years, and liked to tinker in his home shop.

He was a man of few words who never left you guessing where you stood with him, yet showed kindness to those who knew him well.

Survivors include longtime friends Jeremy and Kerry Overby and their children, Jessica, Brittany, Nicholas, Ella, and Macy.

Wayne Echterling, 74, passed away peacefully in his Texas home on March 19th. Born on November 19th, 1949, Wayne lived a life full of purpose, service, and humor, touching many lives along the way.

Wayne was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Elvin and Etta-Fern Echterling and shared his childhood home with his brother, Ronald Echterling. After several years of dating, Wayne married Mary Curry in 1973. Together they build a life together, raising two daughters, Cortnie and Kristyn.

Wayne practiced dentistry in St. Joseph. Perhaps Wayne’s most proud achievement, aside from his family, was serving his country and leading the 139th Airlift Wing as the Medical Commander.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his beloved dog, Milo; daughters, Cortnie (John Scott) and Kristyn (Sean Savage); three loving grandchildren: Mako, Katelyn, and Moorea; his brother Ronald (Debbie); numerous nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends. Jewell G. Roberts, 100, died March 19, 2024, at a local care facility. Born November 8, 1923, she had reached the age of 100. She was the daughter of Walter S. and Ida Mae Anderson.

Jewell married James J. Roberts in 1954. He preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Jewell is survived by son Roger Blair (Sandy), four grandchildren, Deveren Blair (Georgeann), Lora Stafford (Rick), Jeffrey Blair and Ryan Blair, seven great-grandchildren, Drew Blair (Liz), Dalen Blair, Carlea Stafford, Peyton Blair, Jude Blair, Chanler Blair, Chase Blair, one great-great grandson, Hudson Blair. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Most of her life was spent as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Upon her husbands retirement she fulfilled a dream by opening a floral and decorative bead shop. She touched many lives during her long life. She was a loyal friend and will be missed by all.

She was born September 22, 1922 in Bethany, Missouri to Truman and Letha (Butcher) Hagler.

Helen married Alvin Allen Schroeder on June 6, 1952. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2018.

She was a nurse’s aide at Methodist Hospital in the Maternity Ward for 18 years.

Helen loved to garden, bake and cook. She combined these interests in her prolific canning and jelly-making. She also enjoyed doing embroidery and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Alvin; her parents; daughter, Betty Taylor; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Schroeder; son-in-law, Larry Ebling; and sister, Opal Thompson.

Barbara E. Gibson, 75, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024.&nbsp;

She was born August 20, 1948 in St. Joseph to Elfred and Leila Davis.&nbsp;

Barbara grew up in St. Joseph, then moved to Leavenworth, where she served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. She then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, then Kansas City, Kansas, where she worked at the General Motors plant before becoming a forklift operator for the U.S. Postal Service. After retirement, she moved to St. Joseph.

She also was a trained beautician, working in beauty shops in Kansas City and St. Joseph as well as in her own home. She also received training in professional baking, with cakes being her specialty.

Barbara loved the Chiefs, watching “Family Feud” (for Steve Harvey), and anything gambling — going to the casino, playing Bingo or playing cards with friends.

She was a rock for the family, who never complained and loved family get-togethers and reunions. She leaves a legacy of strength, resilience and most of all, love for all who knew her.

The family would like to thank Country Squire and Freudenthal Hospice for their care of Barbara.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Wayne Davis; grandson, Curtis Cruse Jr.; and siblings, Elfred Ronald Davis and Ronald Elfred Davis.

Cecil Allen Heath, 92, of Trimble, MO passed away March 18, 2024.

He was born on April 5, 1931, to Charles Graham and Mary Jane (Hurdman) Heath in Smithville, MO. He served his Country in the United States Army.

On April 2nd, 1955, he was united in marriage to Wilma Pauletta Dennis. After their marriage they made their home in Trimble, MO. After Wilma’s passing on November 8, 2017, Cecil remained in their Trimble home.

Although Cecil and Wilma had no living children of their own, they were a huge part of the lives of their many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Both are greatly missed.&nbsp;

Cecil was a quiet, kind and gentle man with a love for the outdoors, animals, fishing, mushroom hunting and mostly his family and friends.&nbsp;

Cecil was preceded in death by his infant son David Charles Heath; his wife Wilma Heath; his parents Charles and Mary Jane Heath; his brothers Irvin Heath and Charles Melvin Heath.

Cecil is survived by his brother Leonard Heath; his sister Joanne Harlan; sister-in-law Marge Moore; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.&nbsp;

Mark Murphy, 61, of Troy, Kansas passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at his home.

Mark was born on April 28, 1962, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Gordon and Phyllis (Clary) Murphy.

He graduated from Troy High School in 1980. Mark was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #55 both of Troy, Kansas. Mark was a member of the U.S. Army and retiring from the Troy Army National Guard in September of 2005.

Mark married Tina Adkins on April 26, 1986, in Troy, Kansas. She survives of the home.

Mark Murphy 1962 - 2024

Stanley D. Viestenz, Savannah, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024.

Born April 2, 1955 to Duane and Lola Viestenz, he graduated from Savannah High School in 1973. Stan suffered a massive stroke in his late twenties and moved to California to be near his mother where he overcame several of life’s hurdles. He returned to Savannah and worked at Walmart until suffering a second stroke which left him a resident of Laverna Nursing Home until his death. Stan was a member of the Brookdale Presbyterian Church.

Stan was preceded in death by his father, Duane Viestenz, an uncle, Burton Viestenz, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include daughter, Brandie Viestenz, St. Joseph, daughter, Stephanie Viestenz and son, Daniel Viestenz, California. His mother, Lola Bradley, Olive Branch, MS, sisters, Deborah Clark, St. Joseph and Susan Briner, Savannah. Aunts Laura Weckerlin (Donald) who cared for Stan like a son, Marjorie Viestenz, several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He returned to Savannah and worked at Walmart until suffering a second stroke which left him a resident of Laverna Nursing Home until his death. Stan was a member of the Brookdale Presbyterian Church.Stan was preceded in death by his father, Duane Viestenz, an uncle, Burton Viestenz, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.Survivors include daughter, Brandie Viestenz, St. Joseph, daughter, Stephanie Viestenz and son, Daniel Viestenz, California. His mother, Lola Bradley, Olive Branch, MS, sisters, Deborah Clark, St. Joseph and Susan Briner, Savannah. Sherre was born December 21, 1956, the daughter of Norman and Dorothy (Spinner) Ellis. She attended school in Rushville and graduated from DeKalb High School. She later graduated from Missouri Western State College, with an accounting degree.&nbsp;

She and Michael P. Hildman were married August 20, 1976, at the Rushville Christian Church.&nbsp;

Sherre was employed with Car City Chrysler for over 22 years serving as a controller. She was active in Girl Scouts when her daughters were young. Sherre enjoyed going to the casino and watching her Chiefs. She had a deep love for spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Michael Hildman, three daughters, Angela Hildman, Allison Hildman, Alaina Hildman, three grandchildren, Joey (Robert) Gardner, McKenzie Button-Hildman, Alliyah Turpin, a step-brother, Kully Ellis, Riverside, MO, a sister, Sid (Jay) Jones, Atchison, KS and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Kim.&nbsp;

Theresa was born August 27, 1941, in Horton, KS, the daughter of William H. and Emma C. (Wigand) Wohletz. &nbsp;She attended St. Benedict Elementary School and graduated from Mount Saint Scholastica Academy. After school, she began her employment with Commerce Bank before taking a role with Blish Mize as a computer operator in data entry. She then took on the important role as a secretary for Sacred Heart School until its consolidation with ACES where she continued until her retirement role as “nana”. She was a member of St. Benedict Parish and the church Altar Society.&nbsp;

Terri and Dale loved traveling to any and all of their grandchildren’s events. Their grandchildren were their world, even so, that when each grandchild was born, Terri would spend at least two weeks with her daughters to assist with the new addition to the family. KSU football then fell second in most importance after family, but only because her family would usually be with them as they cheered on the Cats! They were season ticket KSU football holders for over twenty years and hardly missed the opportunity to travel to any bowl game. Terri was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.&nbsp;

Terri and Dale B. Schneider were united in marriage on January 19, 1963, at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Dale preceded her in death on October 9, 2020. She married the love of her life Wenzel Klepac on &nbsp;August 28, 1971 in Post Texas and he survives of the home. She worked at Wyatt's Cafeteria as a Waitress. She served drinks with her sweet smile and made delicious pies with her aunt Peggy. She also worked at Texas Instruments in Lubbock TX, and as an in-home care giver in St. Joseph, MO. She enjoyed word puzzle books, coloring, shopping, bingo, and spending time in the yard, and listening to Windy play music, she also enjoyed going out to eat Mexican food with her husband. She was a member of &nbsp;St. Patrick Catholic Church. 

Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, mother Leona Lam and step father, Bill &nbsp;Lam, Father Oliver Thornton and step mother Mabel, brother, Russell D. (Julia) Thornton, sister, Susan Elizabeth Thornton. He was born on July 5, 1953, son of the late Patsy (Gilpin) and Frank Nurski. He was the loving husband to Vickie (Davies) Nurski since September 1978. Father to Dustin Nurski and Thad Nurski, brother to Pam Nurski and Tom Nurski, and he was preceded in death by sisters, Pati Byrne and Paula Bally. &nbsp;

Frank was an Electrician for IBEW Local #545 since 1974. Through the years, Frank was steadfast with his devotion and love for his family. No matter how much time we had together, it's never enough.&nbsp;

Betty enjoyed dancing and listening to music. She loved reading mystery books and watching mystery/thrillers on tv.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Maysville, Missouri….Marilyn Mae Stockdale, age 92, was born January 9, 1932, in Plattsburg, Missouri, the daughter of D.L. and Clystie (Kearns) Cannon and passed away March 16, 2024.Marilyn married the love of her life and best friend, “Bill” Stockdale on June 6, 1949, and to this union one daughter was born, Irris Elaine.&nbsp; They enjoyed 63 wonderful years together and throughout those years they opened their home up to over 67 people (adults and children) who were homeless at the time.&nbsp;She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stewartsville where she was the organist for many years. She had much life in her 92 years with her love for Jesus Christ guiding her throughout. Marilyn had different varied careers and many talents and skills throughout her life including: a seamstress, nurse, restauranteur, barrel riding champion, expert marksman and hunter, painter, musician, song writer and poet. She could make the ground grow anything and nurse sick animals and people back from the brink. Loretta (Milbourn) Evans, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

She was born on March 16, 1942, to Clifford S. and Norma M. (Broce) Milbourn in Andrew County, Missouri.

She graduated from Savannah High School in 1960.

Loretta worked as a production and inventory planner at Altec in St. Joseph for many years.

She was a longtime member of Central Christian Church.

On October 17, 1980, she married William L. Evans Sr. at their church. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2020.

Loretta was an avid reader and spent a lot of time at the Rolling Hills Library. She loved watching crime/mystery shows, while enjoying a cup of coffee and some chocolate. Loretta also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles.

She was a compassionate and giving woman, and often donated to St. Jude’s. Her family remembers her for her sweet and goofy personality and being a devoted mother and grandmother. She always spoiled her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of her beloved family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and children, Christina Moutray, William Evans Jr., and Edward Evans.

Tim C. Levell, 66, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024.&nbsp;

He was born June 28, 1957 in Oakland, California to Everett and Joyce (Acord) Levell.

Tim grew up in California, where he owned and operated a shoe repair business for 10 years and was a volunteer firefighter. He later moved to St. Joseph, where he was a forklift operator for Johnson Controls.&nbsp;

Tim married Cynthia Bailey on August 7, 2000. She survives of the home.

Tim liked hunting in his younger years, and he still enjoyed fishing and gardening.
