Phyllis Morrison, 82, Cameron, Missouri, passed away Monday, April 24, 2023.

She was born September 8, 1940 in Forbes, Missouri to Beauford and Pauline (Fansher) Steeby.

Phyllis married Rex Albert Morrison on June 21, 1959. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2002.

Phyllis was a hard worker, who had many jobs through the years, including beautician, school bus driver in DeKalb, Missouri, grocery store owner in Faucett, Missouri, then working at Monfort Pork until it closed. She then began working in health care for Garden Village in Kansas City, later transferring to the St. Joseph location.

Out of all of her jobs, however, working on the family farm and raising chickens alongside Rex was her true joy.

Coming from a long line of card players, Phyllis loved to play Pinochle. Card games were serious business in the family and could last well into the night.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rex of 43 years; her parents; and sister, Katherine Hurst.

Survivors include her children, Pam Burnett (Charles), Sheila Morrison, Jenita Killin (Bill), Teresa Keith (Bobby), and Rebecca Bacon (Scott); 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Bernadine Meyer, Clifford Steeby (Connie), Jenny Hicks (True), and Louella Riley (Jim); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Phyllis Morrison 1940 - 2023

George Arthur Lesan was born February 19, 1931. He was the fifth of six children born to Roy and Alice (Ballew) Lesan.

He graduated from Eagleville High School in 1949 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1952. During his time in the military, he attended a clerk typist school in Cheyenne Wyoming, Cryptography school in Illinois and served three years in the National Security Service in Washington D.C. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1956.

George attended Gard Business School for 18 months. On March 3, 1958, he accepted a position with Anchor Serum in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was a member of the American Legion, the Lions Club and Ashland United Methodist Church.

On February 22, 1959, he married Lorraine McClurg Lesan. They have three children: Brenda, Gregory, and Douglas.

He retired from Boeringer Ingleheim at the age of 62, after 35 years in the accounting department. After retirement, he continued working in his own small businesses – painting houses and cutting firewood for resale.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine McClurg Lesan, daughter, Brenda Lesan, and sons, Greg (Carrie) Lesan and Doug (Liz and Nicolas) Lesan.

Burnace Gerald Miller, 87 years old, of Lancaster, KS, died Monday, April 24, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospice House.&nbsp;

Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Fr. Hughes Sundeme as celebrant. Burial will be in the Alderson Cemetery. A rosary will be on Friday, April 28th&nbsp;beginning at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 7:30 at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorials may made to St. Louis Church or St. Luke’s Hospice House and left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom funeral care has been entrusted.&nbsp;

Burnace was born on September 3, 1935, in Wathena, Kansas, the son of Charles and Edna (Fleek) Miller. He attended various country elementary schools and graduated high school from Maur Hill Prep.&nbsp;

Burnace was a life-long farmer and cattleman; he loved being a farmer and was proud to raise his crop and his cattle. He was also known for raising a great garden, cruising around the countryside to chat with anyone he ran across and was always willing and enjoyed helping out his neighbors. He served in the Kansas National Guard, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Louis Church, where he served on the parish finance council for many years.&nbsp;

He married Linda Ramseier at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Kansas City, KS, on May 8, 1965; they shared nearly fifty-eight years of marriage. Family was important to Burnace and he will always be remembered by his wife, Linda Miller; his children, Dean (Daisha) Miller, Michele (Darren) Fowler, Dave (Jennifer) Miller; his grandchildren, Matthew (Calista) Miller, Andrew (Rachel) Miller, Caleb Miller, Brooke (Austin) Eckert, Blair (Zach) Halter, Bryce Fowler, Blake Fowler, Elizabeth (Ked) Hart, Luke (Hailey) Miller, Charlie Miller, Max Miller; and his two great grandchildren, Juniper Miller and Gwynn Eckert. Additional survivors include his brother, Ronald (Anita) Miller; sisters, Ellen Mae Hickman, Carol Jean Keithline, Mary Lynn Geisendorf; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Fesperman.&nbsp;

James Herman Wiedmaier, age 63, of Doniphan, Kansas, passed away on December 15, 2022 in Phoenix Arizona. &nbsp;

He was cremated and a local memorial service held. He will be buried at the Doniphan Cemetery on Friday, May 19 at 12 noon. There will be a graveside service only.

Jim was born on December 24, 1959, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Earnest Andrew Wiedmaier and Margaret Catherine Wiedmaier. He attended Troy High School.&nbsp;

Following high school Jim worked on his dad’s farm until moving to Phoenix in 1988. He held a series of jobs related to building maintenance until he died in his sleep of a heart attack. His death was unexpected and he was not known to be ill.

Jim followed sports, news and politics and enjoyed debating politics with his brother Bob, who also lives in Phoenix.

Survivors include his brothers, Steve, David, Tom, Bob, and Joe, as well as his niece and nephew Holly and Amos.

Sharon “Nana Kay” Cooper, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023.

She was born July 31, 1950, to Carl William and Marie Evelyn (Ferdig) Berndt in Texas.

She was a compassionate and understanding woman who loved her family above all things. She enjoyed spending time with her family members, visiting her mother on Sunday’s for dinner, and doing word search’s. In her younger days she could be found playing cards, dancing and enjoying a cold Miller Lite.

Sharon worked as a waitress for several years, and she was one of the best. She had a great personality, and her daughter described her as the most beautiful and patient woman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Bob Berndt, sister, JoAnn Franke, brother, Don Berndt, and brother Jr. Berndt.

Maria Bravo Martinez 95, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023, at her home. She was born May 29, 1927 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Refugio "Mary" and Joaquin Bravo. 

She graduated from Central High School, and married Efren Martinez on July 3, 1948, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed working the election polls, cooking, and being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of &nbsp;St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Daughter's of Isabella, and the St. Patricks Altar Society.&nbsp;

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, John Bravo and Jose Bravo, sisters, Dolores Martinez and Dorothy Aquilar, son, Robert Matthew Martinez, and grandson, Christopher Michael Sprake.&nbsp;

Survivors include husband, Efren Barraza Martinez of the home, Sons, Phillip (Carol) Martinez, Manuel (Mae) Martinez , Luis (Janie) Martinez , Christopher (Shelley) Martinez of St. Joseph, MO, daughter, Elveta Sprake of St. Joseph, MO, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Maria Bravo Martinez 1927 - 2023

Carole A. Sacks, 66, Atchison, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Carole leaves behind loving husband James,(Jim) Sacks&nbsp;Jr, whom she married march 23rd&nbsp;1974 , they had 49 wonderful years together.

Carole also leaves behind daughter Tracey and her husband Joe.&nbsp;Son Dustin and his wife&nbsp;Mandi.

Carole &nbsp;had&nbsp;an older brother, Harry, who sadly passed last year, and leaves his wife Lindsey. Also leaving sister Joni with her&nbsp;husband Dave, sister Pauline with her&nbsp;husband Billy and little brother Fred with his&nbsp;wife&nbsp;Lesley.

She has one grandson, Jayden, son of Tracey,&nbsp;and&nbsp;nieces&nbsp;and nephews, Reuben and Dominic, Levi and Lisa, and&nbsp;Bridieand&nbsp;Billy.

Carole&nbsp;was born in&nbsp;a small village called&nbsp;Bodham, in Rural Norfolk,&nbsp;England,&nbsp;youngest daughter of Harry &amp;&nbsp;Joan&nbsp;....born of&nbsp;a proud Romany gypsy&nbsp;heritage reaching back 100’s of years.

As a child, her family moved frequently, usually around the Norfolk countryside. That certainly didn’t change when she met&nbsp;the young Jim Sacks&nbsp;who&nbsp;had&nbsp;just joined the USAF&nbsp;and was stationed in England. This dashing American in his&nbsp;impressive uniform, swept her off her feet, and there began a love story that was to last her lifetime, and beyond.&nbsp;

Jim and Carole agreed they should continue to live in England until Jim Retired. As the wife of a serviceman they were constantly moving, but Carole&nbsp;dug her heels in and&nbsp;refused to live on base, and got her own way...of course :)

They obviously made many great friends in many different towns and villages, but they happened to meet a very special couple in an English town called “Kings Sutton.” This was Ray and&nbsp;Olga, they were to become lifelong friends sharing many adventures that perhaps we shouldn’t repeat... did I mention Ray and Olga owned the village pub which was conveniently positioned directly opposite Jim and Carole’s home in kings Sutton??&nbsp;Mmmmmm...&nbsp;wonder&nbsp;who chose that particular house!! :)

Eventually in 1994&nbsp;Jims retirement date finally arrived and Jim and Carole made&nbsp;the crossing across the&nbsp;pond&nbsp;,&nbsp;Dragging Tracey and Dustin kicking and screaming along with them, !!Ha&nbsp;ha And so from life in the quaint English countryside, Carole and Jim began a new life’s adventure in the sprawling hills of&nbsp;Atchison&nbsp;rural&nbsp;Kansas.

Carole always had her beloved four legged friends with her. One of her greatest loves in life&nbsp;were&nbsp;animals, especially of course, her dogs and cats. Upon arriving in Kansas Carole went around all the local farms, asking farmers to&nbsp;please not&nbsp;shoot her dogs if they strayed onto their land and chased their cattle... they probably thought she was some nutty English lady.... and they weren’t too far off wrong!!&nbsp;:)&nbsp;but&nbsp;thankfully,&nbsp;it never happened, (or at least they never got caught in the act,) :)much to Carole’s relief.

One of Carole’s favourite past times was walking her spaniel&nbsp;Pudge&nbsp;down the trail to the woods at the back of the farm, andthose were extra special&nbsp;when grandson Jayden visited&nbsp;and&nbsp;he would accompany her EVERY day.... The simple pleasures in life are what made Carole the happiest.

Cattle, Deer, Possum’s, coyote’s, skunks and&nbsp;snakes&nbsp;soonbecame Carole’s countryside companions, (though not all of them welcome ones)! But Carole had some unique&nbsp;4 legged mooing friends over the years here, and&nbsp;we have promised to continue caring for and hand feeding&nbsp;her&nbsp;doe eyed&nbsp;cow&nbsp;Luna, who was a very special gift&nbsp;from Nelson and Mary.

Carole really loved her birds, and probably spent more on bird food over the winters than feeding the family. :) The cardinals were her (almost) favourite,&nbsp;but number one position goes to the humming birds. The feeders put out early and taken&nbsp;down&nbsp;late to ensure&nbsp;they had full&nbsp;tummy’s&nbsp;before they departed and had food&nbsp;waiting&nbsp;upon their return. She would sit for hours on the front porch with them humming and buzzing around her, dive bombing and fighting&nbsp;for the one feeder, even though there are 5&nbsp;hanging. Sadly,&nbsp;Carole is not here to see them this year, but we await their return, so we can sit on the porch watching them, smile and remember.....

In 2015&nbsp;Carole and Jim were both finally able to retire and start enjoying their well earned leisure time together. And enjoy it they certainly did. Once spring arrived, up at 5 am and off golfing!! Jim the one doing the walking and swinging of the clubs, (whether he hit the ball or not is debatable)... and Carole tootling along driving the golf cart, watching to see where his golf balls went-and&nbsp;was actually pretty darn good at it, which is just as well,as generally Jim didn’t have a clue!!

Then lunch out&nbsp;at&nbsp;Tenpenny’s&nbsp;or Bailey’s,&nbsp;shopping, and the obligatory stop at Benny’s&nbsp;on the way home... where a tipple or 2 would be enjoyed in the company of friends who had come to know and &nbsp;love the Carole we all love so much.

And after leaving Bennies&nbsp;on the short drive home,&nbsp;she insisted that was&nbsp;the perfect&nbsp;time to call&nbsp;long distance to&nbsp;Dustin or Tracey.... EVERY DAY... same hills....&nbsp;crackle&nbsp;crackle... hello.... I’m on the hills&nbsp;crackle&nbsp;crackle&nbsp;at the moment so we...crackle&nbsp;crackle, may be&nbsp;crackle... cut off.... crackle crackle..BBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

ALWAYs a smile on her face... and we mean ALWAYS!!! Searching through photographs that have been taken over the many years of her and Jim’s life together we did not find ONE where she didn’t have that beautiful smile on her face.&nbsp;That special smile that came from the heart and lit up her eyes. Carole never had a bad word to say about anyone and always picked out the best in everyone.&nbsp;Everyone &nbsp;that&nbsp;knew her couldn’t help but love her.&nbsp;Beautiful, funny (even when she didn’t mean to be) loving, amazing lady with the biggest heart ever.

Another favourite past time of Carole’s she inherited from her dad, the art of family card playing.... whether staying with Tracey in North Carolina, Visiting her English relatives, or chilling at home family sat around the table chatting and enjoying her home made sausage rolls.. (which&nbsp;were AMAZING) a pack of cards were always at hand. Ace to King was a favourite of hers, and to be fair, she could be pretty good&nbsp;at depending on the tipples of brandy!!!.

Over the years Carole&nbsp;helped us all make some very special memories, and I bet none didn’t bring at least a smile to our faces, though to be fair, it was usually a belly laugh! Keep those memories vivid, never let them fade...&nbsp;never stop smiling when you reminisce.&nbsp;Thats&nbsp;how&nbsp;Carole&nbsp;wants&nbsp;to be remembered..

Through the past few years of her health issues, she&nbsp;still never stopped smiling.&nbsp;We&nbsp;would&nbsp;laugh and joke&nbsp;with Carole&nbsp;about things that “normal” people wouldn’t even dream of mentioning.&nbsp;And fight.....&nbsp;damn, this special lady had more fight in her than you could ever imagine. Carole would NOT be beaten, and amazed&nbsp;us all, including the medical profession, by bouncing back and enjoying life to the absolute full. Still laughing, still golfing and enjoying her days out when she had been told those days were over.... She wasn’t taking any notice of that nonsense!!!

And then one&nbsp;day,........&nbsp;Carole&nbsp;was ready.

Carole was ready to join her loved ones waiting for her.

Her heart and mind finally accepted that her body could no longer be controlled by her super strong will and love of life. And the battle was over.

Well, almost... Carole’s&nbsp;last hours were spent surrounded by her closest family, and a&nbsp;pastor&nbsp;called Andy, who had come to help us all through the final hours.&nbsp;Little did we know what a difference this man was going to make to us all when he&nbsp;arrived.&nbsp;After chatting for a while, we discovered he was actually a musician, and yes, he had his guitar in the car... would we like him to play a few songs? Hell yes!!!

And so he did. Singing and playing some of Carole’s&nbsp;favourites and we all sat around singing along, enjoying a&nbsp;tipple&nbsp;or&nbsp;2, and remarked how amazing it would be if Carole could leave us while he was here. But, we knew that was unlikely, as we believed she had a little longer. Then it was jokingly suggested that we pay Andy time and a half to stay overnight!!&nbsp;JJ... Now Carole, forever “thrifty” obviously heard this, and within the hour, while he was still serenading her, a small twitch of a smile appeared on Carole’s lips, she gave her last breath... and decided to leave.

Still the special lady we all know and love, and yes.... still smiling&nbsp;(and thrifty)&nbsp;to the&nbsp;very&nbsp;end.Safe journey Carole.&nbsp;xxxx

Sacks, 66, Atchison, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023.Carole leaves behind loving husband James,(Jim) Sacks&nbsp;Jr, whom she married march 23rd&nbsp;1974 , they had 49 wonderful years together.Carole also leaves behind daughter Tracey and her husband Joe.&nbsp;Son Dustin and his wife&nbsp;Mandi.Carole &nbsp;had&nbsp;an older brother, Harry, who sadly passed last year, and leaves his wife Lindsey. Also leaving sister Joni with her&nbsp;husband Dave, sister Pauline with her&nbsp;husband Billy and little brother Fred with his&nbsp;wife&nbsp;Lesley.She has one grandson, Jayden, son of Tracey,&nbsp;and&nbsp;nieces&nbsp;and nephews, Reuben and Dominic, Levi and Lisa, and&nbsp;Bridieand&nbsp;Billy.Carole&nbsp;was born in&nbsp;a small village called&nbsp;Bodham, in Rural Norfolk,&nbsp;England,&nbsp;youngest daughter of Harry &amp;&nbsp;Joan&nbsp;....born of&nbsp;a proud Romany gypsy&nbsp;heritage reaching back 100’s of years.As a child, her family moved frequently, usually around the Norfolk countryside. That certainly didn’t change when she met&nbsp;the young Jim Sacks&nbsp;who&nbsp;had&nbsp;just joined the USAF&nbsp;and was stationed in England. This dashing American in his&nbsp;impressive uniform, swept her off her feet, and there began a love story that was to last her lifetime, and beyond.&nbsp;Jim and Carole agreed they should continue to live in England until Jim Retired. As the wife of a serviceman they were constantly moving, but Carole&nbsp;dug her heels in and&nbsp;refused to live on base, and got her own way...of course :)They obviously made many great friends in many different towns and villages, but they happened to meet a very special couple in an English town called “Kings Sutton.” This was Ray and&nbsp;Olga, they were to become lifelong friends sharing many adventures that perhaps we shouldn’t repeat... did I mention Ray and Olga owned the village pub which was conveniently positioned directly opposite Jim and Carole’s home in kings Sutton??&nbsp;Mmmmmm...&nbsp;wonder&nbsp;who chose that particular house!! :)Eventually in 1994&nbsp;Jims retirement date finally arrived and Jim and Carole made&nbsp;the crossing across the&nbsp;pond&nbsp;,&nbsp;Dragging Tracey and Dustin kicking and screaming along with them, !!Ha&nbsp;ha And so from life in the quaint English countryside, Carole and Jim began a new life’s adventure in the sprawling hills of&nbsp;Atchison&nbsp;rural&nbsp;Kansas.Carole always had her beloved four legged friends with her. One of her greatest loves in life&nbsp;were&nbsp;animals, especially of course, her dogs and cats. Upon arriving in Kansas Carole went around all the local farms, asking farmers to&nbsp;please not&nbsp;shoot her dogs if they strayed onto their land and chased their cattle... they probably thought she was some nutty English lady.... and they weren’t too far off wrong!!&nbsp;:)&nbsp;but&nbsp;thankfully,&nbsp;it never happened, (or at least they never got caught in the act,) :)much to Carole’s relief.One of Carole’s favourite past times was walking her spaniel&nbsp;Pudge&nbsp;down the trail to the woods at the back of the farm, andthose were extra special&nbsp;when grandson Jayden visited&nbsp;and&nbsp;he would accompany her EVERY day.... The simple pleasures in life are what made Carole the happiest.Cattle, Deer, Possum’s, coyote’s, skunks and&nbsp;snakes&nbsp;soonbecame Carole’s countryside companions, (though not all of them welcome ones)! Joseph C. Clipston, 85, of Leavenworth died Friday, April 21,2023 at the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center. He was born October 23,1937 in Tacoma, Washington the son of Paul M. Clipston and Thea Lloyd Clipston.

On July 15,1957 Joseph married Carolyn Kensbock in Leavenworth, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, of 66 years, Carolyn, daughters Connie Robinson and Rhonda Skaggs, son Paul (Vicki), 8 grandchildren, siblings, Judith Smith of Portland, Oregon and Jerry Clipston of Corbet, Oregon, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Joseph graduated from Payette Idaho High School in 1955 and joined the US Army serving at many posts with family in the U. S. and abroad. He served tours of duty in Germany, Baltic Sea, and Vietnam. Joseph retired from the military in 1975 and worked at Collard Chevrolet and Rusty Eck Ford as a car salesman and Fleet salesman.

Cremation is planned and there will be no services per Josephs request.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at the VA Community Living Center. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the care Joseph received for the short time he was there; all of the staff were exceptional to him always showing him their best. We will be eternally grateful to all the staff for making his last days comfortable.

Judith (Judy) Marilyn Hoge Jahn, 101, Leavenworth, Kan., passed away peacefully on Apr. 20, 2023, in Pratt, Kan. She was born on April 19, 1922, in Little Rock, Arkansas and graduated from Central High School.

Her parents brought her to Leavenworth in 1942, where she met a Captain in the United States Army, Howard Jahn. They were married in 1943 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.&nbsp;She supported her husband and brother-in-law as they ventured in the grocery business (Jahn’s Supermarkets) with multiple locations, including Jahn’s Shopping Center, one of which is now the current site of the Leavenworth Public Library.

She spent her life enjoying reading books, needlepointing, scrapbooking, traveling with her children/grandchildren, playing Bridge with her friends, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs as an original lifelong season ticket holder, attending wine tastings and providing for her children to ensure they lived their best lives.

She was a 50+ year (Golden Girl) member of PEO (Chapter EN) and a 75+ year member/benefactor of the Leavenworth Presbyterian Church, serving as a volunteer secretary, producing church bulletins, for several years.

She enjoyed her remaining years living alongside her daughter in Pratt, Kan.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Howard (Skip) and Marsha Jahn; daughter, Marilyn (Jahn) Ferbert; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Solomon and Helen (Watson) Hoge; husband, Howard Jahn; son, Ron Jahn; brother and sister-in-law, Frank (Bud) and Dee (Phillips) Hoge; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Lucille (White) Jahn; son-in-law, Richard Ferbert; Edna Brown; and a black Scottish Terrier, Bubbles.

The visitation will be held on May 5 at 10 a.m. and the service will start at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Leavenworth, 407 Walnut St., Leavenworth, Kan. 66048. There will be a gravesite ceremony at Mount Muncie Cemetery, 1500 N. 8th&nbsp;St., Lansing, Kan. 66043, following the service.

Joan Carolyn Crnic, 89, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023, at NorthCare Hospice in North K.C., MO. She was born May 1, 1933, in Kansas City, KS to Cristain Adam and Mary Kathryn (Tillisch) Theroff. 

Joan entered the workforce early and met her future husband John while working for TWA. They married on May 7, 1955, in K.C., KS. The couple bought a farm in Platte City, MO; where they enjoyed raising their 5 children, and many animals, including sheep and cattle. Throughout her early years as a homemaker, Joan managed to earn her bachelor’s degree in art history. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son John Jr.; and her sister Rosemary Copenhaver. 

Joan is survived by her daughters Jan (Charles) Miller, and Patricia (Robert); her sons Guy, and Paul (Jacqueline); her daughter in law Melanie; her brothers Crist Jr. (Pat), and Donald (Judy); her sister Lois (Steve) Imm; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild. 

A private family graveside service will take place Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the Holy Angels Cemetery in Basehor, KS.

She attended Amity Elementary, graduating from Maysville R1 in 1966. On May 28, 1966, she was united in marriage to Steven L. Whiteman. To that union three children were born- Candace, Jill, &amp; Rex. Once the children were of school age, she worked as a teacher’s aide at Maysville schools. She then worked in banking, as a 911 coordinator for Dekalb County, and the past twenty years at Vivco Components.

Charlotte is proceeded in death by her husband of forty years, Steve Whiteman; parents, Lloyd &amp; Dorothy Horsman; sister, Connie McKee and nephew, Dustin Scott.

She is survived by daughters, Candace Rowland, Jill Weaver (Bill); son, Rex Whiteman (Angie Spencer); grandchildren, Mackenzie Elifrits, Makayla Brown, Madison Rowland, Catharine Whiteman, &amp; Emily Whiteman; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Hilarry, Jensen, Daryn, Jameson, Dawson, &amp; Cayson; siblings, Janet Young (Donnie), Doug Horsman (Chris), Jeanne Ann Pollard (Michael); &amp; numerous nieces &amp; nephews.

She was a person of great strength and courage; She faced life's challenges with grace and dignity and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

Albert “Tink” Earl Branson, Sr. 83, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023.

He was born August 16, 1939 to Orlando and Gertrude (Ward) Branson.

Tink married Sharon A. Walker on October 15, 1959. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2018.

He loved watching the Chiefs, spending time with his family and took great pride in his work. He was a father to anyone who needed one.

Tink was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sharon; his parents; two sons, Steven O. Branson and Richard J. Branson; grandson, Dalton Tomes; great-granddaughter, Kendall D. Collins; and 12 siblings.

Cynthia L. Scott, 68, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023 in Garden 
City, Kansas. She was the daughter of Freeman and Evelyn (Severin) 
Scott, born on June 17, 1954 in St. Joseph, Missouri. 
After earning her English degree in 1981 at Southwest Missouri State 
University in Springfield, Missouri, Cindy moved to Garden City, Kansas 
with her family in 1989. She had a passion and talent for writing. 
Cindy worked as an Administrative Assistant for the State of Kansas 
Social &amp; Rehabilitation Services/Department for Children and 
Families from 1989 until her retirement on September 15, 2014. 
After her retirement, Cindy lived a quiet life and enjoyed her peace and
 solitude. She spent her time reading books, listening to music, and 
watching old movies. She loved animals and plants, often just enjoying 
listening to the birds outside her window. 
Cindy was kind hearted and caring. She was a very private person, but 
when she got to know you, she was a good listener and loved having 
conversations about anything and everything. She always appreciated 
visits from close friends and they brightened her mood, especially when 
they brought her favorite drink: A large Mocha Frappe. She loved Mexican
 food, particularly some spicy salsa. 
Survivors include her sister Julie (Scott) Gummelt of St. Joseph, 
Missouri, three nieces Emily (Gummelt) Morrison of Independence, 
Missouri, Bethany (Gummelt) Goettling of Independence, Missouri, 
Stephanie Gummelt of St. Joseph, Missouri, one nephew, Russell Gummelt

William Patrick Thomas Benedict “Pat” McCourt, proud Irishman, passed away on April 21st, 2023 at Community Hospital Onaga. He was 70 years old.

Pat was born February 4th, 1953 to John and Katie McCourt in Topeka, Kansas. He lived in Topeka until he was 5, when he moved to Atchison. Pat was educated in Atchison Catholic schools and told many memorable stories about his time at Maur Hill Academy. He spent his formative years hunting and trapping with his dog, Shorty, and causing general mischief with his two brothers, Owen and Paul.

When he was 18, Pat met the love of his life, Marilyn, at a New Year's Eve party, and they were inseparable for the rest of his life. They eloped on March 18th, 1977 (since the courthouse was closed on St. Patrick’s Day), and their devotion to each other was truly unmatched.

Pat graduated from University of Kansas at the top of his class in Pharmacy, and went to work for Blaylock Drug Store in Topeka. While he was there, he was approached to work in a small town in northeastern Kansas called Onaga. Pat and Marilyn decided to go for a year to try it out. They ended up staying over 40 years and dedicating their professional life to the Onaga community. Pat was a brilliant pharmacist and business man, who enjoyed compounding medicine from scratch, researching new developments, and his customers, whom he saw as family. Any visit to the Onaga Pharmacy was met not only with knowledge sharing but also with Pat’s unrivaled witty remarks.&nbsp;

Pat and Marilyn had four daughters together. Pat was such a fun father, always orchestrating creative projects for the girls (usually involving dry ice or fireworks), never missing a ball game or event, and leading them on adventures around the country. Whenever anyone asked him if he wished he had a boy, he indignantly replied that he couldn't imagine a better life than the one he had, and he taught his daughters to be strong and independent.

&nbsp;Pat was a die-hard KU fan, and had season tickets to support his Jayhawks for years. One of his favorite memories was being with Marilyn at the 1988 National Championship game. He also loved the Chiefs and was delighted with their recent Super Bowl wins. He enjoyed building computers and learning about new technologies. He was an avid coin collector, a watch enthusiast, a history buff, and a truly masterful gift-giver. He loved nothing more than playing against (and generally beating) family and friends in darts. He also enjoyed poker nights with his friends.

&nbsp;Pat loved life, and always reminded us that it's important to take time to enjoy every sunset, because you will never see another one exactly like it.&nbsp;

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his dad, John, his mom, Katie, and his little brother, Paul.&nbsp;

&nbsp;His wife Marilyn survives of the home. Other survivors include his children Maggie, Kerry, Katie, and Alison, his son-in-laws, Carlhos, Lyle, and Mark, his grandchildren Isabel, Paul, Rose, Pierce, and Juliet, his older brother Owen, and many beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

On Wednesday, April 26th, there will be a Rosary at 6:00 pm at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Onaga, followed by visitation with family and friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on April 27th at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, followed by burial at the Onaga Cemetery and lunch at the Onaga Community Center.

He also enjoyed poker nights with his friends.&nbsp;Pat loved life, and always reminded us that it's important to take time to enjoy every sunset, because you will never see another one exactly like it.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his dad, John, his mom, Katie, and his little brother, Paul.&nbsp;&nbsp;His wife Marilyn survives of the home. Other survivors include his children Maggie, Kerry, Katie, and Alison, his son-in-laws, Carlhos, Lyle, and Mark, his grandchildren Isabel, Paul, Rose, Pierce, and Juliet, his older brother Owen, and many beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.On Wednesday, April 26th, there will be a Rosary at 6:00 pm at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Onaga, followed by visitation with family and friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on April 27th at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, followed by burial at the Onaga Cemetery and lunch at the Onaga Community Center.<figure>

Linda Kay Bear "the Lady in Heals" 74, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away &nbsp;Friday, April 21, 2023 in a Savannah, MO health care center. She was born May 1, 1948 in Wathena, KS, daughter of Norma and John Bear. 

graduated from Wathena High School and Highland Community College. She enjoyed shopping at Thrift stores, upholstering furniture, painting, writing short stories, traveling to Branson, and she loved her cats. &nbsp;She was a Christian. 

Linda was preceded in death by father John, brothers, Vick, Johnnie, and Lonnie Bear. 

Survivors include: mother, Norma Bear, niece, Lona Morgan, great nieces, Chelsey Vermillion, Payton Morgan, nephew, Jeremy Morgan, and her dear friend, Deborah Buzzard, who will greatly miss her and who will never forget her kindness and love to all she met.&nbsp;

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:00 pm, Tuesday, with funeral services and public live stream; 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Bellemont Cemetery.

Linda Kay Bear 1948 - 2023

Melvin Ernest Wood 79, of Wallace, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at his home in Wallace. He was born December 20, 1943 in DeKalb, Missouri, son of William "Bill" Wood and Mary Wood.

 He graduated from DeKalb High School. He worked as a truck driver, retired from Yellow Freight. He loved to help on the farm, being outside, fishing, planting his garden, but most of all he loved playing with and watching his grand babies. Melvin loved the big sky of Montana, and got to live out his dream of living there with his wife Melissa Wood, and he also loved helping his friend Darryl Pierce with cows and farming, endless conversations with his fellow trucking buddy Terry, playing in a band with beloved friends, and  always making jokes and fun memories with his friend Larry.  One thing he always did up until it closed, was to drink coffee at Farris Truck Stop with many friends at what they called the liars table. He is loved by many friends and family with many memories made and cherished, he was a Christian. 

Melvin was preceded in death by father, William, mother, Mary, and brother, Bobby Wood. 

Survivors include: wife Melissa Wood of the home, son, Justin (Elizabeth) Gibson, Wallace, MO, daughter, Tasha (Stormy) Gibson, Wallace, MO, grandkids, Abby, Malachy, Elayna, Gracie, and Colt, sons, Brian and Kelly, and their children of Agency and Kansas, brothers; Dwayne (Becky) Wood, Dearborn, MO, Gaylan (Nigel) Wood of Faucett, and sister, Francine Wood of St. Joseph. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home, Funeral Services 10 am Wednesday, April 26, 2023, the Inurnment will be 2:00 pm Friday at the Union Cemetery, Faucett, Missouri.

Mickey Jean Burkart 72, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023 at her home. She was born January 15, 1951 in St. Joseph, Missouri, daughter of the late Eileen &amp; Charley Christian Sr.

 Mickey married Tom Burkart on November 29, 1975, and he survives of the home. She graduated from Benton High School, and obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate from Hillyard Technical School. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and was a homemaker. She attended the St. James Catholic Church. 

Mickey was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Charles Thomas Christian, Jr., and sisters, Suzanna Nold and Tamara Christian. 

She is survived by husband, Tom Burkart, and several nieces and nephews. There are no services scheduled at this time. 

She has been cremated under the care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home.
