Northern Missouri Congressman Sam Graves says the
election broke for Republicans late, giving his party a better showing on
Election Day that he had thought it would fare.

Former President Donald Trump won a little more
than 50% of the popular vote and has more than enough Electoral College votes.
Republicans took control of the Senate and are in a tight race for control of
the House.

Graves, a Republican, says voters rejected the
woke agenda of the Biden-Haris administration.

“You know, things were looking better and better
as we got closer and closer to the election and then it ended up being even
better than we thought,” Graves tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “Polling is getting
to be a lot tougher than it used to be, but having said that, it was trending
and tracking, what we were seeing was exactly kind of what happened, but it did
end up being a little bit better than we thought.”

As of Monday afternoon, former President Donald
Trump has a bit more than 50% of the popular vote with 312 Electoral votes,
according to the Associated Press. Vice President Kamala Harris has nearly 48%
of the popular vote and 226 electors. It takes 270 electoral votes to win the
presidency.

Republicans have taken the majority in the U.S.
Senate, now with 53 seats. Democrats have 46 seats with one seat yet to be
decided. Eighteen U.S. Representative races have yet to be called. Republicans
lead Democrats 214 seats to 203. A political party needs 218 members to secure
a majority in the United States House.

Graves says the issues made the difference in
this campaign.

“I think our message is what resonated,” Graves
says. “I think people are tired of this woke culture and the policies that are
being put out by the liberals and the progressives out there and particularly
Vice President Harris. Things like the border. The border resonates with every
single person out there.”

Graves says his party received a mandate on
Tuesday and needs to act on it.

“You cannot spend yourself out of an economic
crisis and that’s what we have right now. They (voters) also want to see the
border closed. They want people to come into this country legally and not
illegally,” according to Graves. “That’s the reason they voted for Republicans,
because they want to see some action.”

As for Graves, he breezed to re-election, winning
70% of the vote. Graves has been elected to a total of 13 terms in Congress and
is dean of the Missouri Congressional delegation.

Graves is being mentioned as a possible candidate
for Transportation Secretary in the second Trump Administration.

A 36-year-old St. Joseph man has died from wounds suffered in
a Sunday shooting.

The St. Joseph Police Department reports it is investigating
the shooting as a targeted homicide.

St. Joseph police officers responded to an emergency call
about shots being fired near North 20th and Jules Street shortly
after noon Sunday. An officer discovered a man inside a vehicle suffering from
a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment,
but died later. The victim’s name has not been released.

No suspect is in custody. Anyone with information on the
shooting is urged to contact the St. Joseph Police Department.

(Radio Iowa) - Governor Kim Reynolds has not announced whether she intends to seek reelection in 2026, but she is giving a few hints about her 2025 policy agenda.

 Reynolds has signed five tax cuts into law over the last six years and the state income tax will shrink to a single rate under four percent on January 1st. Two years ago, at a Republican Governors Association forum, Reynolds said her goal was to eliminate the state income tax by the end of her current term, which ends in early 2027. However, Reynolds has indicated her focus in 2025 will be on a reducing tax that's collected by LOCAL governments, like cities, counties and school districts. 

Reynolds says there's also opportunities to make more reductions in the state bureaucracy. She signed legislation this year to eliminate 67 boards and commissions and last year the number of state agencies was reduced from 37 to 16.

ATCHISON COUNTY, Mo. —One person was injured in an accident just after 9p.m. Sunday in Atchison County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1984 Honda motorcycle driven by a 48-year-old from Council Bluff, Iowa, was southbound on Highway AA three miles north of Rock Port. The motorcycle struck a deer. After impact, the vehicle skidded across the center line and traveled off the east side of the road.

EMS transported the rider to Fairfax Community Hospital. He was later air-lifted to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.

It wasn't pretty, some may say it wasn't deserved, but the Kansas City Chiefs are still unbeaten after beating the Denver Broncos 16-14 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;

The Broncos took advantage of a normally strong offensive line, sacking Patrick Mahomes four times against the Chiefs front five.&nbsp; Guard Trey Smith credits the Broncos front unit for giving the Chiefs offensive line problems all game

"Front seven as well, they do a phenomenal job of pushing us," Smith tells reporters in the locker room after the game. "You know they did a good job up front with the different looks they mixed in to give us fits, at the end of the day us players just have to try to be better."

Left tackle Wanya Morris also left the game with injury, but did return early into the fourth quarter.

Four punts combined opened the game for both teams before the first touchdown, which the Broncos scored early in the second quarter, rookie quarterback Bo Nix connecting with fellow rookie wide receiver&nbsp;Devaughn Vele for a six yard touchdown.&nbsp; The Chiefs answered with a Harrison Butker field goal on the next drive.&nbsp;

But Denver kept the upper hand in the first half, again scoring on a passing touchdown from Nix, this time to Courtland Sutton who created some separation from Trent McDuffie to catch the pass which dropped right into his hands for a 32 yard score.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Chiefs used their final drive of the first half to narrow the lead however, driving 11 plays before Mahomes found tight end Travis Kelce for a two yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; Kansas City did get one more opportunity to score, but were unable to, as Will Lutz missed what would have tied a career long 61 yard field goal, and Mecole Hardman fielded the ball in the back of the endzone and attempted to take it back, before eventually being taken down, leaving Kansas City trailing 14-10 at the halftime break.&nbsp;

With the touchdown catch in the second quarter, his second touchdown of the season,&nbsp;Kelce’s future Hall of Fame resume added another franchise milestone, the touchdown being his 76th career score.&nbsp; Kelce is now tied with legendary Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez for the most receiving touchdowns in team history. 

The lone score of the third quarter was a field goal by Butker, this time from 28 yards away, putting the Chiefs within one point.&nbsp; Butker again was called on to kick in the fourth quarter, this time after Mahomes just missed a touchdown pass to Kelce, knocking through a 20 yard field goal to give Kansas City their first lead of the game.&nbsp;

Trailing 16-14 with 5:57 remaining, the goal was simple for the Broncos, use up as much clock as possible, and don't give the Chiefs the ball back.&nbsp; And Denver did accomplish that goal, driving all the way down to the Chiefs 12 yard line, calling a timeout with one second remaining to set up a game winning field goal for Lutz, easily within his range.

But, as they have all season, the Chiefs found a way to pull off the win, as the ball was snapped the left side opened up, allowing linebacker Leo Chenal to dart through, and knock away the kick, which cornerback Joshua Williams scooped up, and Kansas City's sideline along with the entirety of Arrowhead Stadium erupted in celebration as the Chiefs improved to 9-0.

"Kind of right below the palm, it was just a good push by everybody and I got through," Chenal told reporters following the game at the podium. "We've been talking about it for awhile, win one of those, and we did in a big moment."

Chenal says he can't even begin to explain the emotions he felt after saving the Chiefs unbeaten season

"Glory to Jesus Christ and everything, cause I was really praying for something to happen because it's so easy to like, that moment is so heavy, you know there's a second on the clock, they're going to kick the field goal, and you feel the weight of the moment," Chenal says.

The Chiefs also had walk-off wins this season against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1, Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 9.&nbsp;

Head Coach Andy Reid says there wasn't much to say to his team in terms of a message following the game, stating that the game told the story

"You know for it to end like that, I haven't been around a lot of those walk off blocks, so I'm going to enjoy it but I'm also going to get to work fixing the other things we need to fix before we go to Buffalo," Reid tells reporters.&nbsp; "But, you know you enjoy every one of these the best you possibly can, because it's tough in this league, the parity in this league is ridiculous."

Mahomes was 28 of 42 passing for 266 yards with one touchdown, he also rushed three times for 19 yards.&nbsp; Kareem Hunt was the leading rusher with 14 carries for 35 yards, adding seven catches for 65 yards.&nbsp; Kelce had eight catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.

Next up the Chiefs hit the road to face the Buffalo Bills. Kickoff will be at 3:25, pregame at 2pm on KFEQ and Q Country 92.7.

Blocked field goal keeps Chiefs unbeaten season alive, beat Broncos 16-14

Bishop LeBlond volleyball finished second in Class 2 after dropping
the championship game in Cape Girardeau to Fair Grove.

Bishop LeBlond fought hard and kept each set close, but Fair
Grove swept the championship game to finish the season undefeated. Fair Grove compiled
a final record of 41-0. Bishop LeBlond finished the year 32-4-1. 

The Golden Eagles went ahead early in the first set, positioned
to make a run. But a well-timed timeout allowed Fair Grove to grab the momentum
to take the set 25-19.

In the second set, it all Fair Grove, which took a 18-9 lead
before LeBlond began to rally, getting to within two before eventually falling
25-20.

The third set went back and forth with lead changes before
Fair Grove pulled away winning 25-19.

The second-place finish matches the best ending for Bishop
LeBlond, which also won second place in 2021.

Junior Rilyn Conard led the way for the Golden Eagles with 10
kills, also having three aces on serves.

St. Vincent, which LeBlond defeated in the semi-finals, finished third.

Bishop LeBlond graduates only three seniors from the team,
only one with significant varsity minutes. Several members of this team are
expected to return next year.

#24 Tigers top Sooners in renewal of rivalry matchup

The Missouri Tigers had not had the greatest luck against the Oklahoma Sooners in one of their oldest rivalries, coming into Saturday trailing in the series 67-24-5, the Sooners even winning 32 of the 48 all time meetings in Columbia.&nbsp;

But in the renewal of the rivalry, and the first with both teams in the SEC, it was the #24 Tigers that came out on top, behind a strong effort from their defense and backup quarterback Drew Pyne, beating the Sooners 30-23 on Saturday at Faurot Field.&nbsp;

Both teams offenses were slow to get going through the first half, as both only managed field goals, Oklahoma's&nbsp;Zach Schmit knocking through kicks of 40 and 35 yards to give the Sooners a 6-0 lead before Mizzou's Blake Craig hit a 25 yard field goal to get the Tigers on the board.&nbsp; Schmit hit a 56 yard field goal at the end of the first half, giving Oklahoma a 9-3 lead at the halftime break.&nbsp;

Missouri scored the only points of the third quarter on their second offensive drive of the second half, following a turnover on downs by the Sooners, Pyne putting together a 12 play drive before connecting with Oklahoma transfer Theo Wease Jr for a 13 yard touchdown to give the Tigers their first lead of the game.&nbsp;

After both teams traded punts, a fumble from the Sooners, one of four on the day, gave Mizzou the ball back and they would extend their lead with Pyne throwing a touchdown to tight end Brett Norfleet for five yards.&nbsp; Craig knocked through the ensuing extra point, however a false start forced another attempt, which Craig went on to miss.&nbsp;

The missed extra point allowed Oklahoma to go on to tie up the game on the very next drive, finishing a 12 play drive with quarterback Jackson Arnold finding Taylor Tatum for an 18 yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; Disaster struck for the Tigers, and took the air out of the stadium, as on the following defensive drive, Mizzou running back Jamal Robers had the ball knocked from his hands, and kicked it as he was going down, allowing Sooners defensive back Billy Bowman Jr to return the ball 43 yards for a go ahead touchdown.&nbsp;

As fans held their breath with two minutes remaining, Pyne put together another strong drive with two big plays to help the Tigers tie the game back up.&nbsp; First, on a 3rd and 16, Pyne found Luther Burden III for a 33 yard pass to get the first down.&nbsp; After a Marcus Carroll rush attempt, Pyne went to the air again, and once again found Wease Jr, who tiptoed at the corner of the endzone for a 10 yard touchdown reception.&nbsp;

With 1:03 left in the game, and overtime looming, as they had all night the Missouri defense came up big.&nbsp; After the Sooners got a first down, thanks to a defensive pass interference on Kristian Williams, Arnold was hit hard by linebacker Triston Newson as he scrambled looking for a receiver, losing the ball for defensive lineman Zion Young to scoop it up and take it to the house, giving the Tigers the lead with 30 seconds remaining.&nbsp;

A last ditch effort from Oklahoma fell short as they pitched the ball back and forth trying to find an opening, but failing and with zeroes on the clock Faurot Field erupted in celebration as Mizzou left on top.&nbsp; The win was crucial as the only hope for the Tigers to possibly make the College Football Playoffs is to win out the remaining schedule.&nbsp;

Pyne was 14 of 27 on the night passing, throwing for 143 yards with three touchdowns.&nbsp; Roberts led all rushers with 13 carries for 54 yards, while Wease Jr had four catches for 70 yards with two scores.&nbsp; Burden III had five catches for 55 yards.&nbsp;

The Tigers will hit the road next week to Columbia, South Carolina to matchup in the Mayor's Cup with the South Carolina Gamecocks.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at 3:15, with pregame at 1:15 on KFEQ on Saturday.&nbsp;

Bearcats win the battle of Highway 71 over Griffons for 11th straight win

Both the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats and Missouri Western Griffons traded blows through the first half of the Battle of Highway 71, but running back Tank Young helped the Bearcats pull away in the second, as Northwest won the rivalry matchup for an 11th straight time 33-23 on Saturday at Spratt Memorial Stadium.&nbsp;

Each team only scored field goals through the first quarter, as Bearcat kicker Noah Guastella hit kicks of 26 and 37 yards to give Northwest the lead, before Griffons kicker Cody Watson hit a long 53 yard field goal late in the quarter to leave Northwest up 6-3 going into the second quarter.&nbsp;

Watson did tie up the game early on in the quarter, knocking through a 20 yard field goal, before the teams continue exchanging kicks with Guastella hitting a 32 yard field goal.&nbsp; The first touchdown was scored by the Griffons as Branden Berwald connected with Traveon James for a 16 yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; But the Bearcats answered with a touchdown pass of their own on the ensuing drive, Chris Ruhnke throwing to Eric Richardson for a 15 yard score, leaving Northwest up 16-13 at the halftime break.&nbsp;

Following a Missouri Western punt to open the second half, Young would begin to help Northwest pull away, ending a three play drive with a 46 yard rushing touchdown.&nbsp; Later in the quarter it was Young again, this time from just 10 yards away to give the Bearcats a three score lead in the rivalry battle.&nbsp;

Two straight scores for Missouri Western began the comeback effort, Watson first hitting a 37 yard field goal.&nbsp; Later in the quarter, Berwald threw another touchdown pass, this time to Jake Berrey for 41 yards.&nbsp; But that's where the comeback bid fell short.&nbsp;

Berwald threw an interception late in the quarter, and the Northwest offense would drive down the field, allowing Guastella to hit his fourth field goal of the game for what was the final score, knocking the kick through from 22 yards away.&nbsp;

For Northwest, Ruhnke was 20 of 32 passing for 225 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Young was the leading rusher with 20 carries for 135 yards and two scores, he was also the leading receiver with six catches for 92 yards.&nbsp;

Berwald was 26 of 51 through the air for the Griffons, passing for 305 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, he was also the leading rusher with 10 carries for 10 yards.&nbsp; Jonas Bennett caught 11 passes for 113 yards.&nbsp;

Missouri Western will wrap up their season at home next, taking on Quincy at Spratt Memorial Stadium, kicking off at 2pm.&nbsp; Northwest will also return home for their season finale, taking on Pittsburg State at Bearcat Stadium for Senior Day, kicking off at 1:30pm.&nbsp;

#11 Ravens score dominant win over Central Methodist on Senior Day

The #11 Benedictine Ravens sent out their seniors with a bang, scoring a 39 point victory over Central Methodist on Saturday at Larry Wilcox Stadium, winning 49-10.&nbsp;

After Dalton Witherspoon opened the scoring for the Ravens with a four yard rushing touchdown, Central Methodist got onto the scoreboard with a 24 yard field goal by Oscar Simon late in the quarter.&nbsp; Benedictine wasted no time answering the score, as Jackson Dooley threw a 72 yard touchdown pass to&nbsp;Joseph Lagafuaina, needing just one play, to send the Ravens into the second quarter with a 14-3 lead.&nbsp;

Benedictine scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter, starting with a touchdown from their special teams unit as&nbsp;Joseph Abrams blocked a punt in the end zone that was recovered by Isaiah Hasten.&nbsp; Jashawn Todd scored next on a five yard rushing score before the scoring was capped off by Dooley who rushed for a score of his own from seven yards away, sending Benedictine to the locker room at halftime with a 35-3 lead.&nbsp;

After neither team scored in the third quarter, Dooley extended the run to 35-0, as he connected with Tyler Watson for a 19 yard touchdown.&nbsp; But the Eagles finally ended their scoreless drought in the quarter, Gavin Watts throwing a 16 yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; The Ravens final score of the game came late in the quarter, a 66 yard rushing touchdown by Jonah Roberts, again on just a one play drive.&nbsp;

Dooley was 22 of 30 passing for 343 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. With his 343 yards passing, Dooley now has 3,286 yards, breaking the previous single season record of 3,110 yards set by Garrett Kettle in 2022.

Roberts rushed three times for 75 yards with one score, while&nbsp;Xavier Ugorji rushed nine times for 50 yards.&nbsp;&nbsp; Lagafuaina caught two passes for 81 yards and a touchdown,&nbsp;Tanner Zimmerman had five catches for 48 yards.

Benedictine returns to the road for a first-ever meeting in Fulton, Mo., with William Woods University on Saturday to finish off the regular season, kicking off at 1pm. 

With MidAmerica Nazarene's loss to Baker in Olathe on Saturday, the Ravens, Pioneers and Wildcats are now tied for the Heart South lead with one week remaining.

Neal sets KU rushing record as Jayhawks upset #17 Cyclones

Devin Neal rushed for 116 yards and became the all time leading rusher for Kansas, as the Jayhawks scored a big upset win in what has been a disappointing season over #17 Iowa State, 45-36 at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday.&nbsp;

Neal broke June Henley's rushing record with a 14-yard run on his first carry and now has 3,951. Neal's touchdown runs of 13 and 10 yards gave him 43, breaking Henley's mark of 41.

After Iowa State opened the scoring on their first offensive drive,&nbsp; Rocco Becht throwing a 27 yard touchdown pass to Kansas City native&nbsp;Jaylin Noel, the Jayhawks answered quickly with a big 70 yard touchdown pass from Jalon Daniels to Luke Grimm. Neal's 13 yard rushing touchdown capped the scoring late in the first quarter to put Kansas up 14-7.&nbsp;

The scoring frenzy by the Jayhawks continued into the second quarter, Daniels throwing a 24 yard touchdown pass to Quentin Skinner.&nbsp; After a 22 yard field goal by&nbsp;Kyle Konrardy for the Cyclones, Daniels added a touchdown with his legs, rushing for a two yard score. Field goals from Kansas'&nbsp;Tabor Allen of 47 yards, and Konrardy of 38 yards, ended the scoring in the first half, the Jayhawks leading 31-13 at the halftime break.

Neal scored his 10 yard rushing touchdown for the first score of the second half extending the Kansas lead, before the Cyclones finally found the endzone again, this time with a rushing score of their own,&nbsp;Carson Hansen running for an 11 yard touchdown.&nbsp;

To start the fourth quarter, Iowa State continued cutting into the Jayhawk lead, Becht connecting with Jaylon Jackson for a 27 yard touchdown, then adding a two point conversion by running into the endzone to cut the lead to 10 points.&nbsp; But while attempting to cut the lead even more, Becht threw an interception to&nbsp;Mello Dotson who took the ball 25 yards to the house for a touchdown.

Becht connected with Noel again late in the fourth quarter, an 18 yard passing touchdown, Becht passing to&nbsp;Jayden Higgins for a two point conversion, with 2:41 left in the game, but Neal and Daniels combined to rush for a first down, allowing Daniels to kneel out the remaining clock.&nbsp;

Daniels was 12 of 24 passing for 295 yards with two touchdowns, also rushing 12 times for 68 yards and a score.&nbsp; Neal rushed 18 times for 116 yards with two touchdowns.&nbsp; Skinner caught four passes for 135 yards and a touchdown, while Grimm caught two passes for 76 yards and a score.&nbsp;

Kansas will be back on the road next week traveling to&nbsp;LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah for a matchup with BYU.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at 9:15pm with the game being televised on ESPN.&nbsp;

WORTH COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before 5p.m. Saturday in Worth County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Dodge Caravan was stopped on private property at 301 West Street in Grant City. A 72-year-old driver left the vehicle in drive and turned it off. As the driver attempted to exit the van, it began to roll backwards down a hill.&nbsp;

The open van door struck the driver and she fell to the ground. The van continued backwards across West Street, continued downhill and struck a parked 2015 Toyota Camry at 303 West 4th Street.

Worth County EMS transported the woman to Mosaic in St. Joseph for treatment of serious injuries. The Patrol did not release the woman's name.

72-year-old hospitalized in St. Joe after run over by her van

ATCHISON COUNTY —Two people were injured in an accident just after 1:30p.m. Sunday in Atchison.

A 2000 Toyota four door passenger car driven by Edwarda Sukow, 87, Atchison, was eastbound on Green Street at 6th Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

The car entered the intersection and collided with a southbound 2015 Ford four door passenger car driven by Kimberly Thomas, 50, Atchison.

EMS transported both drivers to Amberwell Hospital by EMS for treatment of injuries. Police released no additional details.

2 Kansas women hospitalized after 2-car crash

CLINTON COUNTY—Three people were injured in an accident just after 10a.m. Friday in Clinton County.

The semi rear-ended a 1999 Ford F250 driven by a 69-year-old man from Lathrop. After impact the Ford skidded sideways, rolled and struck the towed unit of a northbound 2025 Freightliner semi.

EMS transported the driver of the Volvo, the pickup and a 59-year-old passenger in the Ford to Liberty Hospital. All three were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

KFEQ/St. Joseph Post Area High School Football District scoreboard Nov. 8th

ANDREW COUNTY —The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating a reported burglary that occurred Thursday in Andrew County, according to a media release from the Patrol.

A preliminary investigation indicates that just before 10p.m. Thursday, the Andrew County Sheriff's office received a 911 call of a burglary on County Road 375.&nbsp; Deputies learned the burglary involved an altercation and the victim, a 70-year-old St. Joseph man, sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.&nbsp; No arrests have been made. The Patrol reported no additional details.

70-year-old man from St. Joe wounded during burglary

After a third place finish last year, the Bishop LeBlond volleyball team is back in Cape Girardeau for another final four appearance. 

Seeking the first championship in school history, Bishop LeBlond is in the final four for a fifth time.  

Head Coach Kim Huss says what's exciting about this group making it back to Cape Girardeau is that it's a whole new group of players 

"Because we graduated seven seniors last year, and so on our roster only two people had experience playing significant time on varsity, and so this year this is a whole new group of kids minus two players," Huss tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "And so that's what's exciting." 

Huss says the team isn't doing anything to dramatically different to prepare for such a big stage, and says in the program simply considers a business trip 

"That these matches are just like going on a business trip, where you have a certain plan, you're going to go take care of business, and everything else will take care of itself," Huss explains. "So, we're not doing anything dramatically different this week than we've done in all the weeks leading up to this, obviously there's some special things that come along with qualifying for the final four and some activities and things, but really we want to go down and help these girls makes some great memories." 

Bishop LeBlond is back in the final four one year after finishing third and graduating seven seniors, with only two players from that team back on this year’s squad.

One of those is junior Rilyn Conard, who says it's always the mission to make it back to the final four 

"We're now the fifth team in LeBlond school history to get there, so I think our goal this year is to really get some work done down there and come back with a first-place finish," Conard says.  

The team is young, with two freshmen playing a key role, but Conard says even though they're young, they are prepared 

"We're a young team of course and we start two freshmen, but these girls have really hard, and they fit in just with the rest of us," Conard points out. "So, they've worked really hard, and they are deserving of this." 

Bishop LeBlond will play St. Vincent this evening at 6pm.  They will play either Hermann, the team that knocked them to the third-place game last year, or currently undefeated Fair Grove on Saturday.

Bishop LeBlond volleyball back in Final Four

Western District Commissioner Ron Hook has increased his lead over Republican challenger Everett Goddard Junior after provisional and military ballots were counted by the Buchanan County Clerk's Office this afternoon 

On election night Hook led 7,851 to Goddard's 7,831. 

County Clerk Mary Baack Garvey announced the new numbers this afternoon 

"Ron Hook, 7,862, (Everett) Goddard, 7,839," Baack Garvey tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. 

Baack Garvey says there will be a recount, though at this time they are unsure when that will happen 

"There might be a statewide recount on an amendment, so I would like to kill two birds with one stone, I'm just kind of waiting to see when the state might have that happen," Baack Garvey explains. "And I let Kristy Green, part of the Republican committee know that, so I'll be in touch with her next week." 

A recount is automatic when the margin is within 1%.

Recount adds three votes to Buchanan Co Commissioner Hook's lead

Northern Missouri Congressman Sam Graves confirms he has had
talks with the Trump transition team about the possibility of serving as
Transportation Secretary in the second Trump administration.

Graves, a Republican, is chair of the House Transportation and
Infrastructure Committee.

An article by Politico names Graves as a possible
Transportation Secretary. Graves says he is talking with Trump’s people.

“I have been talking to Trump’s transition team and they have
informed me that they’ve got me on a short list for that,” Graves tells
KFEQ/St. Joseph Post in a phone interview. “I’m obviously taking a very hard
look at it and (we’ll) see what happens. But it is certainly something that is
very intriguing to me.”

Republican Caucus rules would prohibit Graves from continuing
to serve as House Transportation Committee chair in the next term of Congress
unless he is granted a waiver. And that is contingent of course on Republicans
holding on to the majority in the United States House.

Graves says the next Transportation Secretary needs to
concentrate on physical infrastructure.

“That is roads and bridges and airports and pipelines and
ports and not do all of these things that are about a green agenda or about
woke policies or quota policies, whatever the case may be,” Graves says. “We
need to concentrate on traditional infrastructure and that’s what’s going to be
the challenge is unwinding so many of those things that happened in the
Biden-Harris administration.”

Grave has been critical of the $1.2 trillion infrastructure
bill signed into law by President Biden in late 2021, saying it became partisan
as it grew too large, authorizing spending outside what is considered
traditional infrastructure projects.

Graves says he is open to becoming part of a second Trump
administration, but emphasizes all discussions are in the early stages.

“It’s just preliminary at this point,” according to Graves. “They’re
just feeling me out on policy and what I would do and the things I would like
to see changed. It’s just preliminary at this point to be quite honest with
you.”

Graves won his 13th term in Congress on Tuesday. He
is the dean of the Missouri Congressional delegation.

Trump team talking with Congressman Graves about Transportation Sec. post

A bit more than 68% of the registered voters in Buchanan
County cast ballots during this General Election, spurred by an upsurge in
early voting.

Missouri allowed no-excuse absentee voting two weeks prior to
Election Day.

Buchanan County Clerk Mary Baack-Garvey says her office saw an
incredible spike in voters coming to the courthouse early to cast their ballot.

“I was an amazing turnout,” Baack-Garvey tells KFEQ/St. Joseph
Post. “We had 64-hundred people walk in this building to vote.”

Garvey says that in the past, Buchanan County would see 1,000
to 1,500 voters cast absentee ballots. Missouri state law has required absentee
voters provide a reason for voting early in the past. This year, state law
loosened absentee voting, allowing absentee ballots to be cast in the last two

Baack-Garvey says early voting this year cannot really compare
to past election years.

“People that need an excuse, we might see an uptick in
November,” Baack-Garvey says. “But, with this no-excuse absentee voting, it’s really
not comparable. It’s amazing. I really enjoyed having it going on. I think the
employees of the courthouse were kind of impressed, to see all these people coming
in to vote.”

Baack-Garvey says despite the strong turnout, the county
didn’t experience problems or even long lines as the polls.

“I thought it was great,” Baack-Gavey says. “The day went
smooth. We had tons of phone calls; no real hiccups at all. So, I’m pleased
with the turnout, definitely.”

Buchanan County has 53,099 registered voters; 36,171 voted in the
General Election. That’s a turnout of 68.1%.

The Missouri Secretary of State reports 4.4 million votes were
cast in the General Election, a turnout of 67%.

The Kansas Secretary of State reports a preliminary voter
total of 1.3 million votes cast, which would be a 64% voter turnout.

incredible spike in voters coming to the courthouse early to cast their ballot.“I was an amazing turnout,” Baack-Garvey tells KFEQ/St. Joseph

to 1,500 voters cast absentee ballots. Missouri state law has required absentee
