KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A jury has convicted a 61-year-old man
in the road rage killing of a Missouri Air National Guardsman from St. Joseph. 

The Jackson County
Prosecutor's office announced Thursday that Nicholas Webb of Pleasant Hill was convicted of
second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the 2018 death of 23-year-old
Cody Harter of St. Joseph.

 Court records say Lee's Summit officers called to a
site on Interstate 470 found Harter suffering from a stab wound. Witnesses and
surveillance video indicated Harter and another man had a confrontation on the
highway before the suspect drove away.

 As a Guardsman stationed at Rosecrans Memorial Airport, Harter served in Iraq
and Qatar, and helped with hurricane relief in Houston and Puerto Rico.

A spike in coronavirus cases at the St. Joseph prison has been
reported by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Corrections officials report 81 active cases of COVID-19 among
prisoners incarcerated in St. Joseph. Three members of the staff also have
contracted the coronavirus, according to the department.

That is by far the most COVID-19 cases in the Missouri prison
system.

Among other northwest Missouri prisons, the Chillicothe prison
reports 15 inmates with COVID-19 as well as five staff members. The Cameron
prison reports six offenders with the virus and one member of its staff, while
the prison in Maryville reports three staff members have contracted COVID, but

The driver fell asleep. The semi traveled off the road, across the median into the northbound lanes, back into the median, struck a bridge abutment, traveled down an embankment, crossed a road, struck another embankment and came to rese in the median.

Tri-County ambulance transported Wilson to Liberty Hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

Approximately, 300 people and 2 Guernsey calves showed up for the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new <a href="https://www.nwmissouri.edu/media/news/2021/08/03ALC-campaign.htm">Agricultural Learning Center at Northwest Missouri University </a>on July 30, 2021.&nbsp;

It's a 29,000 square foot center located on Northwest's 448-acre R.T. Wright Farm.&nbsp; The Wright Farm was established in 1971 when Northwest bought the land from the Kline family.

The ALC cost $11.4 million to build.&nbsp; A big portion of the money came from the University's Homesteaders Society which is a group of donors who gave $25,000 or more.&nbsp; The state of Missouri provided $2.5 million.&nbsp; All said there were more than 250 individual gifts.

The ceremony lasted 45 minutes and included speeches by:

	-Dr. Rod Barr, Director of the School of Agricultural Sciences

	-Dr. John Jasinki, President of Northwest

	-Chris Chinn, Director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture

	-Rep. Allen Andrews, MO State Rep of Grant City

	-Dr. Bob Burrell, President of the Northwest Foundation Board of Directors

	-John Kline, parents sold their farmland to Northwest for the R.T. Wright Farm

MO State Rep Allen Andrews, who is also a 1989 alumni of Northwest, said that what separates Northwest from other schools is vision.   He stated, "Today we are celebrating opportunity."

Dr. Rod Barr was emotional as he talked about the center.  He said, "The ALC will allow faculty to expand profession-based learning experiences that will allow students to be career ready, day one."

At the end of the last speech, there were several distinct moo's that could be heard, the 2 Guernsey calves got the last word as they issued their stamp of approval on the ALC.

Northwest Missouri University opens new Agricultural Learning Center

A health care executive from northwest Missouri will soon
become president of the Missouri Hospital Association.

Jon Doolittle currently serves as president of the Mosaic
Medical Center in Albany. Doolittle applied after serving on the association
board.

“I’ve become a big fan of the association over the years,”
Doolittle tells St. Joseph Post in an interview. “They’ve done great things for
us and I’ve enjoyed working with the staff and so, despite my sadness about
leaving my home town, I’m very excited to be given this opportunity and to
continue to try and help the best I can to have a great health care system in Missouri
and work well with all the stakeholders who help that happen.”

Doolittle will succeed Herb Kuhn, who has served as Missouri
Hospital Association president for 12 years. Doolittle will begin his new
duties in late October.

Doolittle is becoming president of the Missouri Hospital
Association during a critical time for health care.

“It absolutely is a time of incredible transition and demand
on hospitals and health systems,” according to Doolittle.

Doolittle says the coronavirus pandemic has dominated the past
year-and-a-half and has accelerated the radical transformation of the nation’s
health care industry.

“While COVID has had us focused perhaps more near term and
more narrowly for the last year-and-a-half, those broader economic forces,
technological changes, and everything else absolutely have been continuing.”

The association must work to help its members navigate the
changes, according to Doolittle.

“One of the roles of the association is to help our members
prepare for that transformation and work through strategic planning and change
so that they can continue to provide great service to the people of the state,”
Doolittle says.

Doolittle says his goal will be to help Missouri hospitals adapt
and thrive.

“And just really helping our health care system and the
quality of life for Missourians continue to move forward,” Doolittle says. “We’re
blessed to have the health care system that we have in the state of Missouri today.”

Doolittle has been at Albany for 11 years. He led its transition
into the Mosaic Life Care system in 2014. A graduate of Harvard, Doolittle
first worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City before he moved to
Cerner in Kansas City, where he first got into health care.

NODAWAY COUNTY - A nearly head-on crash late Wednesday afternoon in Nodaway
County killed two.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports a sport utility
vehicle driven by 30-year-old Tiffany Piveral of Hopkins, traveling south on
Missouri 148, crossed the center line and struck a northbound car on the front
fender. Both drivers died in the crash.

The name of the second driver, a 17-year-old from Pickering,
is being withheld, because she is a juvenile.

A nine-year-old girl, a passenger in the SUV, was
taken by medical helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Omaha. Two other
children in the car, an eight-year-old and an 11-year-old, suffered moderate injuries
in the wreck.

The driver attempted to avoid another vehicle in the westbound lane. She steered off the north side of the road and the SUV struck a tree.

Nodaway County EMS transported the teen to Mosaic in St. Joseph. She was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the MSHP.

16-year-old driver hospitalized after SUV strikes a tree

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a robbery last month have made an arrest.

Just after 3:30p.m. July 7, a 51-year-old male victim reported that he was confronted outside his residence in the 700 Block of Washington Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.&nbsp; The suspects&nbsp; who were known to the him and demanded money. They punched him in the face repeatedly and took his wallet. The suspects fled the scene and the victim was taken to the hospital by private vehicle for treatment of injuries.  

On Tuesday, police arrested 20-year-old Landen Williams in the 700 block Kansas Avenue on a District Court warrant. He is being held&nbsp; for aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, and theft.&nbsp;

Police: Suspect punched 51-year-old Kan. man, took his wallet

Buchanan County voters brushed aside the national negative
narrative and calls to defund the police to show overwhelming support for law
enforcement in Tuesday’s election.

Unofficial results from the Buchanan County Clerk’s office
tell the story:&nbsp; 6,653 voted in favor of
the quarter-cent law enforcement sales tax with only 1,925 voting against. That
is an incredible 77.56% to 22.44% split in support of the issue that will pay
for deputy pay raises and additional staff on the Buchanan County Sheriff’s
Department.

Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett says the county placed the
issue on the ballot after the county survey showed law enforcement was a top
priority of county residents.

“I think it goes to show that the citizens have spoken, not
only in the survey, but as well in the overwhelming majority support for law
enforcement and what they want in our community and how they want it done,”
Puett tells St. Joseph Post. “We’re so greatly thankful and appreciative to everyone
who supported it.”

Puett says he didn’t assume an outcome while watching election
results come in.

“You’re always nervous, but I know we have an outstanding
community. We have a great community,” Puett says. “So, it doesn’t surprise me when
we have our outstanding citizens get out and show this level of support for law
enforcement.”

County officials project the quarter cent increase will
generate $3.6 million annually. The money will be used to increase deputy
salaries, which according to Puett, have failed to stay competitive with
neighboring sheriff’s departments, such as those in Clay and Platte Counties.
It also will be used to fill vacancies which now plague the department as well
as add law enforcement officers.

Puett says this emphatic statement from the voters will boost
morale among his staff.

“Well, I think it will have a dramatic impact, a huge shot in
the arm.”

Puett says this vote proves the community supports law
enforcement.

“This is not the stuff you see in the national rhetoric and in
other places,” Puett says. “We don’t have that kind of community here. We have
an outstanding community that supports its law enforcement and wants the problems
addressed.”

The driver fell asleep. The Ford crossed the center line and struck the rear axel of a westbound 2022 Freightliner semi driven by Marcus B. Stanley, 35, Miami Gardens, Florida, and then struck the front bumper of a 2019 Jeep Cherokee driven by Citally Salazar, 19, Milan.&nbsp;

Daviess County EMS transported Collins and a passenger in the Ford April D. Swank, 40, Trenton, to Cameron Regional Medical Center. The other drivers were not injured. All four were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the MSHP.

2 injured after Missouri man falls asleep at the wheel

St. Joseph city voters gave overwhelming support to a
half-cent sales tax increase to make upgrades to the city parks system.

More than 71% of the voters casting ballots in the special
election Tuesday supported the tax hike.

Chair Chris Clark with the St. Joseph Committee to Restore Our
Parks says he expected a closer margin.

“Personally, I’m extremely thankful and very happy that the
city showed up,” Clark tells St. Joseph Post. “The folks that did vote showed
that they truly care about this city and want to do better for this city.”

The unofficial results from the Buchanan County Clerk’s office
have 5,378 votes in favor of the parks tax with only 2,183 voting against it; a
split of 71.13% to 28.87%. Just under 17% of the registered voters in St.
Joseph turned out for the special election.

Clark credits the work of his committee for the strong
support, stating that the committee took seriously its duty to educate voters
about how the tax increase would be used.

“Being open, being transparent, and being educational to the
point where, look, we want to educate you,” Clark describes the approach of his
committee. “We would love for you to vote yes, but more than anything, we want
you to be more educated when you do go to the polls and know that when you make
a decision you’re better educated with truthful information and not just
hearsay or something you saw on Facebook.”

City officials estimate the tax would generate $50 to $60
million over its 10-year lifespan. The tax has a 10-year sunset clause.

The City of St. Joseph has a list of proposed projects on its
website. [Click <a href="https://www.stjoemo.info/1000/Parks-Sales-Tax">here</a> for the list.] It is highlighted by nearly $12.8 million
in improvements to Krug Park. The extra funds would pay for $8.8 million in
improvements to the Noyes Complex, $3 million to the Bode Sports Complex, $2.8
million for Hyde Park, $2.5 million for the Northside Complex, $2.1 million for
the Civic Arena, among many other projects.

Approximately $4.5 million would be set aside for parks maintenance.

Clark says his committee might have campaigned for the issue,
but it will continue to work to make sure that the promises made are kept.

“Yes, we were an endorsement committee and we supported this
tax. We also expect accountability from the department itself," Clark says. "We want to help
them. We want to make sure they have the resources and they have the tools to
get the job done, but we also want to hold them accountable and make sure they
get done. So, personally myself, I expect to see these projects be done in 10
years if not sooner.”

Joseph turned out for the special election.Clark credits the work of his committee for the strong
support, stating that the committee took seriously its duty to educate voters
about how the tax increase would be used.“Being open, being transparent, and being educational to the
point where, look, we want to educate you,” Clark describes the approach of his
committee. “We would love for you to vote yes, but more than anything, we want
you to be more educated when you do go to the polls and know that when you make
a decision you’re better educated with truthful information and not just
hearsay or something you saw on Facebook.”City officials estimate the tax would generate $50 to $60
million over its 10-year lifespan. The tax has a 10-year sunset clause.The City of St. Joseph has a list of proposed projects on its

in improvements to Krug Park. The extra funds would pay for $8.8 million in

the Civic Arena, among many other projects.Approximately $4.5 million would be set aside for parks maintenance.Clark says his committee might have campaigned for the issue,
but it will continue to work to make sure that the promises made are kept.“Yes, we were an endorsement committee and we supported this
tax. We also expect accountability from the department itself," Clark says. "We want to help
them. We want to make sure they have the resources and they have the tools to
get the job done, but we also want to hold them accountable and make sure they
get done. So, personally myself, I expect to see these projects be done in 10
years if not sooner.”

St. Joseph voters give parks sales tax issue strong support

DEKALB COUNTY —A Missouri woman was injured in an accident just before 6a.m. Wednesday in DeKalb County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2019 Hyundai Kona driven by Jeffery E. McNickle, 56, Gallatin, was westbound on U.S. 36 four miles west of Stewartsville.

The vehicle traveled off the north side of the road, struck a MODOT sign, embankment and overturned. DeKalb County EMS transported McNickle transported to Mosaic Life Care. He was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the MSHP.

The St. Joseph Mustangs&nbsp; put the bow on another memorable season last week - one that ended with a MINK League Championship.

One that ended with a string of furious postseason comebacks - one against Chillicothe, one against Clarinda and another against Sedalia.

 The Mustangs won the second game of the championship series 12-2 against Sedalia to claim its seventh league title as a franchise.

General manager Ky Turner, who just completed his seventh year with the Mustangs, is already looking ahead to next season, but is thankful for the season that just was.

He called it the Year of the Comeback. Not only because fans came back after no 2020 season, but also because of the comeback victories in the postseason.

"It's a special thing," Turner tells The Post. "It's certainly a treasure for us. It's always bittersweet when a season ends, just because there's so much work and it's exciting the way it ended. But, boy we don't want it to end at all. So, we're already looking forward to 2022 and what we can make special for next season, but we're going to remember this one for awhile."

There were well over 2,200 fans present for Friday's championship, which may have been the largest crowd ever for a postseason game, according to Turner.

"That crowd was electric," he said. "The atmosphere was incredible. So, for us, without looking at the numbers, it was certainly a record crowd for the playoffs. So, it was just so much fun."

The seven MINK League titles are by far more than any other team in the league. Sedalia has the second most with three. Coach Johnny Coy said much the same last Friday after the championship - what makes the organization so successful are the people.

"Each year, we may have a few different players and our roster changes, but the people that make the organization and make the atmosphere, they stay the same," Turner pointed out. "So, it's just a special little thing here in northwest Missouri and something we look forward to every summer."

Turner was optimistic that the city would vote in favor of the half-cent sales tax increase that will go toward revamping St. Joseph’s parks and facilities, including Phil Welch Stadium, which will receive over 1.5 million of the nearly 60 million dollars the tax increase would generate over the next 10 years.

Over 5,300 people, or 71 percent of the voters, voted in favor of the parks tax. Turner says that funding can help improve the fan experience at a stadium first built in 1939.

"We appreciate the city of St. Joseph and the parks department and all of the work that they do," Turner said. "Because, it's not just Phil Welch. It's Missouri Theater, Krug Park, Civic Arena. They do a tremendous job, so we just want to make sure that whoever attends a Mustangs game at Phil Welch is not only comfortable, but also safe, and so some of that money will help go toward that experience."

The money allocated to Phil Welch Stadium would go toward press box repairs, seating repairs, grandstand concrete and other things.

"Some general maintenance issues with it that just need to be corrected," Turner said. "As well as putting some different wood in the outfield fence. So, just some stuff that's going to help the team, but also allow us to devote some attention to some other projects we have in mind, too if we can get these taken care of."

Mustangs manager grateful for championship season, hopeful for Phil Welch improvements

After a year of being shuttered, there will be a grand reopening event in St. Joseph’s theatre district.

Performing Arts Association director Beth Sharp says that with the Performing Arts Association moving to a new building, and the St. Joseph Symphony being back after being shuttered last year due to COVID-19, it just made sense to hold this event.

“With the Symphony, them being shuttered and starting a new season and having a new conductor, we thought it just made sense to do a grand reopening event.” Says Sharp.

And managing director of the St. Joseph Symphony Lori McAlister agrees adding it’s been a great collaboration.

“It’s been a collaboration from the get go, which is exciting,” McAlister says. “We’ve actually been talking about and looking for opportunities to do things together.”

Both the Performing Arts Association and the St. Joseph Symphony will hold ribbon cuttings this afternoon.

Sharp says that the ribbon cuttings will be staggered, beginning with the ribbon cutting for the Performing Arts Association at 4pm.

“St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce will come out, they provide the ribbon and the big scissors,” Sharp says. “I know that our board president is excited about giving a little speech, as well as I, then we’ll shuffle everyone over to the Symphony at 4:15.”

The St. Joseph Performing Arts Association and the St. Joseph Symphony will celebrate its grand reopening this afternoon.

The event will run from 4-7 pm with staggered ribbon cuttings at 4pm for the Performing Arts Association and at 4:15 for the St. Joseph Symphony.

“We’re really excited to kickoff the very first show September 18th,” Sharp says. “It’s Piano Men, it’s a tribute to Elton John and Billy Joel, and this is a fantastic tribute show.”

And the start of the Symphony season won’t be far behind, managing director Lori McAlister is excited to start the very next week.

“On September 25 that will be our season opener, the first in the season that Christopher Kelts has designed for us,” McAlister says. “And he’s starting it off with the theme of ‘New’, a new season a new sound.”

Fans that attend the grand opening even this afternoon will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to the shows, as well as enter a drawing for a chance to win great prizes.

Guests will get an opportunity at the Symphony ribbon cutting to meet the Symphony’s new conductor, Christopher Kelts, as well as buy concert tickets and enter a drawing.  The event will run from 4-7pm.

Tuesday’s election.

A proposal to increase the school tax levy by .10 to pay for
increases in teacher salaries in the Savannah R3 School District passed 846 to

An accomplished sports author from the Kansas City area is in St. Joseph Wednesday for a signing and presentation of his recent book about the history of the Chiefs.

David Smale last year published The Keys to the Kingdom: An Illustrated Timeline of the Kansas City Chiefs. He'll be at Pony Express Sports &amp; More in the East Hills Shopping Center from noon-3 p.m. Wednesday, and then at Hi-Ho Bar and Grill from 6-7:30 p.m. for a presentation, followed by a sports trivia contest hosted by local sports trivia expert Bob Green.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Smale says he wrote this book right at the beginning of COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, and it took him only two weeks to do so with no other sports going on.

"It's a series of short stories about the events and the people that shape the history," Smale said. "I don't cover every year or every player, but I cover key moments in the Chiefs' first 60 years."

Smale is excited to be back in St. Joseph and interact with the thousands of Chiefs fans who come from near and far to take in training camp, which is going on now through August 18.

"I'm thrilled for that city that (training camp) is back," Smale said. "Looking forward to getting back up there and seeing some of the people that I've visited with through the years. I've been up to training camp a number of years myself."

Smale&nbsp;has covered professional, college and high school sports for more than 40 years. He has published 23 books, mostly on sports history.

He was five years old when the Dallas Texans moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs. He says he grew up around five uncles who were die hard Chiefs fans like his dad, and his passion for the team only grew from there.

Two sales tax increase proposals pass with overwhelming
support as St. Joseph voters approved a half-cent parks sales tax and Buchanan
County voters approved a quarter-cent law enforcement sales tax in this special
election.

Buchanan County voters overwhelmingly supported the increase
in the law enforcement sales tax, which Sheriff Bill Puett promised would be
spent to increase deputy salaries and add law enforcement officers to the
Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department staff. More than 77% of Buchanan County voters
cast ballots in favor of the law enforcement sales tax, with 6,653 voting in
favor of it and only 1,925 voting against in the unofficial results released by
the Buchanan County Clerk’s office.

St. Joseph city voters gave similar support to the half-cent
sales tax to make broad improvements to the city parks system, including
upgrades to Krug Park, Hyde Park, the Bode Sports Complex, and the Civic Arena.
Slightly more than 71% of the voters cast ballots in favor of the issue with
5,378 casting “yes” votes and 2,183 voting against.

Voter turnout exceeded the expectations of Buchanan County
Clerk Mary Baack-Garvey, who predicted a 10% turnout in an election which
featured only two sales tax issues and no candidates. Slightly more than 8,600
ballots were cast in the election; a 16.9% turnout.

The driver lost control of the pickup. It traveled off the road, struck a ditch and overturned.&nbsp;

NTA EMS transported the teen to Cameron Regional Medical Center. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

factor could increase voter turnout:&nbsp; the
weather. It will be nearly perfect weather for getting out and getting to the
polls with sunny skies, a light breeze, and a high of 82 forecast.

There
is one precinct change for this election. Those who vote at the St. Joseph
Armory will vote at the former Charming Charlie’s at the East Hills Shopping
Center today, because the armory is undergoing renovation.

The
City of St. Joseph projects that if voters approve a half-cent increase in the
city sales tax, it will generate between $50 and 60 million for the park system

A 20-year-old Elwood man drowned at the Lake of the Ozarks this
past weekend.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Cornelious Anderson had
been at Shady Gators Bar and Grill late Saturday night when he was seen by
private security guards walking into the lake. His body was recovered Monday
morning. The Camden County medical examiner pronounced Anderson dead.

Central Missouri’s Troop F reports Anderson’s death was the 5th
drowning it worked in July and the 7th drowning this year.

Elwood man drowns at Lake of the Ozarks

ATCHISON COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 11:30a.m. Monday in Atchison County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1990 Ford Ranger driven by Joshua L. Green, 34, Hamburg, IA., was westbound on 200th Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Route Y.&nbsp;

The Ford struck the drivers side of a southbound 1996 GMC Sierra driven by Harry R. Horton, 52, Westboro.

 A private vehicle transported Horton to Community Hospital of Fairfax. Green was not injured. The MSHP had incomplete seat belt information.

Missouri man injured after 2-vehicle crash

DEKALB COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just before 11:30a.m. Monday in DeKalb County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Freightliner semi driven by Adrian A. Homack, 29, Buckeye, Arizona, was westbound on U.S. 36 two miles east of Stewartsville.&nbsp;

The semi rear-ended a 2019 Freightliner semi driven by&nbsp; Trevon D. Cruse, 26, St. Joseph, who was slowing for another vehicle that was turning.

DeKalb-Clinton Ambulance transported Homack to Mosaic Life Care. Cruse was treated at the scene. Both drivers were properly restrained a the time of the accident, according to the MSHP.

St. Joe man avoids serious injury after rear-end crash

Mosaic Life Care has seen its COVID-19 hospitalizations
stabilize.

Whether those numbers stay there is uncertain.

Mosaic Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Davin Turner, notes Mosaic
has been taking care of around 50 patients the last few weeks.

“We hope that this plateau will start to show a decline,
however what we witnessed in south Missouri is, initially they shot up, they plateaued,
and then after several weeks, they went up again,” Turner tells reporters
during a news conference at the St. Joseph hospital. “However, there is some
optimism in that area that maybe that has reached a plateau.”

Southern Missouri has seen such a rash of COVID-19 patients
who contracted the Delta variant it has swamped hospitals in that region of the
state.

state.Mosaic reports 45 COVID-19 patients in its system as of Monday
morning, with 42 being treated in St. Joseph, one in Maryville, and two in
Albany.Buchanan County has a low vaccination rate of around 20%. To
try to boost that rate and entice more residents to get vaccinated, Mosaic will
host a vaccination clinic on the Missouri Western State University campus
during the Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp in St. Joseph. It will be held
between 11:30am and 2pm at the Looney Complex, 4525 Downs Drive, on the
Missouri Western campus in St. Joseph, Thursday, August 12th.Turner says a couple of recent vaccination events have
attracted area residents.“We are optimistic,” Turner says. “I think many of you know
when we started to see this recent surge, we did open our vaccination center up.
The first day we had around 140ish show up. We just did second shots and this
past week over 300 people showed up.”If you want to get the vaccination during the Chiefs Training
Camp, you must make an appointment in advance. Those getting shots next week
will get a chance to interact with Chiefs players. Defensive Tackle Chris Jones
and receivers Byron Pringle and Demarcus Robinson will be on hand for the
vaccination clinic at the Looney Complex and will interact with those receiving
vaccinations.Now, no autograph hounds need register. Those getting the shot

website.Turner worries about the misinformation being spread on social
media about the coronavirus vaccine. He warns area residents not to it.“No vaccine’s perfect, but what we are seeing even though we
are seeing some breakthrough cases; here locally it’s around one percent,
nationally it’s around two percent of those that have been vaccinated still
contract COVID. They don’t progress to requiring ICU care,” Turner says. “They do
not go on to die.”Turner says vaccination also improves a patient’s chance of
recovery if they do contract COVID.“If you get COVID and you’re not vaccinated and you progress
to severe illness and if you end up in our ICU on ventilator you have a 70%
chance of not surviving.”
