A new survey finds consumers expect to pay more for groceries this year. Progressive Grocer reports the 2023 KPMG Winter Consumer Pulse Survey shows consumers anticipate increased prices, but are looking for ways to save money. 

The Survey shows consumers expect a 15 percent increase in grocery spending this year. 

Meanwhile, 56 percent of consumers plan to spend more on groceries this year, while nine percent plan to spend less. 

Consumers cite inflation, an increased tendency to eat at home, larger household sizes and dietary changes as reasons for spending changes. KMPG research also finds 38 percent of consumers plan to pay more for restaurant meals this year, a two percent increase from last year. 

However, 35 percent of consumers say they plan to spend less on purchases made online this year, yet nearly half of the respondents reported an average increase in household income of 15 percent.

The funding also seeks to expand market opportunities for farmers and create jobs in rural areas. 

The investment is part of the Biden administration's Action Plan for a Fairer, More Competitive, and More Resilient Meat and Poultry Supply Chain. 

The action plan dedicates resources to expand independent processing capacity. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says, "USDA will continue to work tirelessly to give farmers and ranchers a fair chance to compete in the marketplace, which in turn helps lower food costs for the American people." 

USDA is providing the $59 million in grants to five independent processors under the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program. The funding will help build new processing plants, create hundreds of jobs, give local producers and entrepreneurs more options and business opportunities, and give consumers more options at the grocery store.

ATCHISON —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after an incident at a home in Atchison.

Just after 11p.m. on Wednesday police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 1400 block Unity Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Police took 22-year-old Dwayne A. Nixon into custody at the scene on charges involving two female victims.

He remains in custody on requested charges that include aggravated domestic battery, aggravated assault, domestic battery, and possession of marijuana.&nbsp;

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Legislation considered Wednesday in a Missouri state Senate committee would bolster the state’s abortion ban.

Republican Sen. Mike Moon’s measure would add a line to the Missouri Constitution that says: “Nothing in this Constitution shall be construed to secure or protect a right to abortion.”

“Let the voters weigh in on this,” Moon said. “They will confirm with us that life is precious, and it should not be snuffed out prematurely through abortive actions.”

Abortion is already outlawed in Missouri.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-us-supreme-court-missouri-government-and-politics-7bb5798bae32c3f15abad3a10941dfb5">A law banning the procedure</a>&nbsp;kicked in last year after the U.S. Supreme Court&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-supreme-court-decision-854f60302f21c2c35129e58cf8d8a7b0">overturned Roe v. Wade</a>.

Since then, abortion-rights advocates have been talking about trying to restore access to abortion via ballot measures, although no proposals have been filed yet.

In Missouri, citizens can amend laws and the Missouri Constitution by going directly to voters through referendums or initiative petitions.

Ballot measures allow voters to sidestep lawmakers, a tool that has previously been used to address policy issues that voters disagree with the Legislature on or politically sticky issues that lawmakers refuse to take up.

Moon's measure would also need voter approval if it's passed by the GOP-controlled Legislature by the end of session in mid-May.

Abortion-rights advocates asked lawmakers to vote down the proposal.

“Here we are explaining again that abortion bans have devastating consequences for the patients and communities being denied this essential care,” said Vanessa Wellbery, vice president of policy and advocacy at Advocates of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri.

Missouri lawmakers try to strengthen abortion ban

Sudden interest has popped up for land owned by Buchanan County at the North Village Shoppes in St. Joseph. 

The Veterans Administration had an option on the land, but that was recently canceled, and Buchanan County Presiding Commissioner Scott Nelson says that prompted much interest in the land.

Nelson says that first there was interest from a hotel to build on the land, and then another party became interested as well, which Nelson says shows people know there are certain needs for St. Joseph

"That if it wants to grow, it wants to attract visitors, events, things like that, that we are in woeful need of rooms, hotel rooms, and meeting spaces," Nelson tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. "So, they're looking for prime spots."

Nelson says he believes that area is a prime spot because of its vicinity to the North Village Shoppes, as well as being right off the highway.

Nelson says that area of the North Village Shoppes is a prime spot for a hotel, despite there being three other hotels, because it’s like a community. 

"There's areas of hotels, there's areas of entertainment, there's areas of shopping, now is everything in walking distance? Depends how far you want to walk, but that area has everything other than food in that regard, " Nelson says. "So, in the future I see that being a hub, not the hub, but a hub."

Nelson says there's also talks about opportunities for economic development in the corner of Frederick and 29th street.

Since the highs of 2021, freight prices have dropped to lows not seen since June 2020, according to a recent analysis by U.S. Wheat Associates. 

Coupled with a recent break in wheat prices, decreased ocean freight costs have helped turn the tides back in the importers' favor. 

The Baltic Index price chart of dry bulk freight rates shows the impact on rates from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. 

On February 6, the Baltic Dry Index hit 621, a level not seen since June 2020. The index has fallen 88 percent from its peak in October 2021. In recent years, dry bulk freight and Chinese economic growth have become interconnected. 

Vessel supply and demand, port congestion, oil prices, and the ongoing supply chain disruptions will continue to impact the market as economies normalize post-COVID. However, China remains in the driver's seat of global freight, according to U.S. Wheat Associates. The resilience of the Chinese economy will be put to the test as economic activity increases post-COVID.

Production and consumption of ethanol as a transportation fuel grew significantly over the last three decades in the United States before plateauing in recent years. 

The ethanol share of finished motor gasoline has moved concurrently with consumption, leveling off near ten percent in 2022. 

Steps taken in the spring of 2020 to combat the spread of COVID-19, such as increased remote work and school, and other social distancing efforts, resulted in sharp declines in a variety of ethanol market metrics. 

For example, from 2017–19, U.S. ethanol production averaged 1.33 billion gallons per month, while consumption averaged 1.18 billion gallons per month. 

During the pandemic lows, these values fell by 46 percent and nearly 40 percent, respectively, causing the ethanol share of finished motor gasoline to decline to nine percent. More recently, estimates for all three figures have largely recovered and leveled off. 

However, adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles is expected to put downward pressure on gasoline consumption and dampen prospects for renewed growth in fuel ethanol demand.

Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft says the November election
confirms Missouri’s new election laws are sound and don’t keep any registered
voters from casting a ballot.

Ashcroft, a Republican, says the changes in state election
laws didn’t seem to disrupt voting anywhere in the state last year.

“The feedback that I’ve heard from election authorities, your
county clerks, your boards of elections, that I’ve heard from voters has all
been good,” Ashcroft tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “The groups that were against
the election changes, they have not brought up any problems with the
administration of the law to us.”

Ashcroft notes that opponents of the voter photo ID provision
haven’t been able to prove anyone was denied the right to vote because of the
requirement. Ashcroft insists photo identification is vital to ensuring only
registered voters cast ballots.

“I think it went exactly as we thought it would. Everyone that
was a registered voter was able to vote. I think it helped people to have more
confidence in elections. We made it harder to cheat,” according to Ashcroft. “You
want it easy to vote, harder to cheat and you want to have credible results. We
did that and we will continue to do that.”

The one change Ashcroft would like to see in elections cannot
be legislated. Ashcroft, the state’s top election authority, wants to see
greater turnout at the polls. He says there are still too few registered voters
bothering to cast ballots.

Ashcroft worries changes over the years to make voting easier
have cheapened the vote.

“I don’t think it was intentional, but as we’ve made it easier
to vote I think people have almost taken the idea that, well, it must not be
that important,” Ashcroft speculates. “And I don’t know how we get back to
really pushing this idea that voting’s important and that voting does matter
and it’s not just a right. It is a right, but I would say it’s also a
responsibility.”

Just after 1 a.m. Monday, a sheriff's deputy initiated a traffic stop in the vicinity of 330 and Thrasher, according to Brown County Sheriff John Merchant.&nbsp; 

The deputy determined that the passenger, Christopher Alexander 47 Independence, Missouri was wanted on two $5000 Platte City Missouri Felony Warrants for Failure to Appear.&nbsp;

Alexander is also arrested on requested charges of&nbsp;Felony possession of a controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Suspect wanted in Platte Co. caught with drugs

NODAWAY COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just after 7a.m. Tuesday in Nodaway County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2017 Jeep Wrangler driven by Rosemary L. Schieber, 55, Ravenwood, was westbound on U.S. 136 two miles east of Maryville. The Jeep struck a deer. A private vehicle transported Schieber to Mosaic in Maryville. She was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Just before 5p.m. Feb. 17-2023 sheriff's deputies conducted a welfare check at 337 S. 4th in Everest, Kansas, according to Brown County Sheriff John Merchant.

At the residence, a deputy recognized an individual in the yard of the residence who had active warrants.&nbsp; The deputy made contact and arrested 38-year-old Brent Rezabek of Hiawatha on 4 outstanding Brown County Warrants for Felony Probation Violation, three for Failure to Appear.&nbsp; Rezabek was arrested on requested charges of Possession of Meth, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.&nbsp; 

After the arrest of Rezabek, deputies made contact at the residence and determined that probable cause existed for application of a search warrant.&nbsp; The Brown County Sheriffs Office Drug Task Force served the search warrant&nbsp; and seized needles, syringes, meth, marijuana, grinders and&nbsp; pipes as evidence.&nbsp;

Upon conclusion of the search warrant, Crystal Duvall, 37, Everest was arrested on requested charges of Possession of Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana and 3 counts of Child Endangerment.

Laura Barnhart, 37, Everest was arrested on requested charges of Possession of Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and 3 counts of Child Endangerment.

Michael Ballman 50 Horton was arrested on requested charges of Possession of Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and 3 counts of&nbsp; Child Endangerment.&nbsp; &nbsp;Police also placed 3 juveniles into Protective custody.

Sheriff: 4 arrested, children in protective custody after drug bust

A temporary restraining order has been issued against a St.
Joseph firm that federal prosecutors contend defrauded clients in the guise of
a Christian medical cost-sharing program.

U.S. District Judge Greg Kays issued the restraining order
against Medical Cost Sharing and its principal owners, Craig Reynolds and James
McGinnis, both of St. Joseph.

Federal prosecutors contend Reynolds and McGinnis committed
wire fraud by collecting monthly contributions from “like-minded” Christians
and paying very little out to cover medical costs. Prosecutors allege Reynolds
and McGinnis have collected $7 million from clients since 2013 and have
paid out only $246,000, or 3 1/2% of the total
collected. Prosecutors further allege Reynolds and McGinnis placed at least $4 million in their personal bank accounts.

Reynolds and McGinnis, according a complaint filed by the
Western District of Missouri U.S. Attorney’s Office, repeatedly failed to share
medical expenses and denied member claims “based on a variety of specious
reasons.” At times, Medical Cost Sharing did not have enough funds to pay
member claims, because the two had depleted its bank account, according to the
complaint.

McGinnis, both of St. Joseph.Federal prosecutors contend Reynolds and McGinnis committed
wire fraud by collecting monthly contributions from “like-minded” Christians
and paying very little out to cover medical costs. Prosecutors allege Reynolds
and McGinnis have collected $7 million from clients since 2013 and have
paid out only $246,000, or 3 1/2% of the total
collected. Prosecutors further allege Reynolds and McGinnis placed at least $4 million in their personal bank accounts.Reynolds and McGinnis, according a complaint filed by the
Western District of Missouri U.S. Attorney’s Office, repeatedly failed to share
medical expenses and denied member claims “based on a variety of specious
reasons.” At times, Medical Cost Sharing did not have enough funds to pay
member claims, because the two had depleted its bank account, according to the
complaint.

St. Joseph-based Christian medical cost-share program charged with fraud

St. Joseph city officials are currently in the early stages of planning the next round of the capital improvement projects.&nbsp;

City Manager Bryan Carter says the Capital Improvement Program has been renewed every five years to fund capital improvements throughout the city. &nbsp;

Carter says some past projects that benefitted from the CIP money are the new fire stations as well as the splash park at Hyde Park. &nbsp;

"It's a great source for doing those things that need to be done to replace or rehabilitate existing capital structures or programs," Carter tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr. "But, it's also great for those modern amenities that we need to add."&nbsp;

Carter says the concept of something like the splash park wasn't around years ago, but as that idea became bigger the CIP allowed the funds to add that to the city.&nbsp;

Carter contends it’s so well received because there is a good process in place, and that process shows good results.&nbsp;

"The process is very open to the public, we accept public submissions for different projects and programs, it's a group of citizens who come up with and identify which ones will be funded," Carter explains. "And that all comes out, you know what those projects are before you cast a vote, so it's a really good process."&nbsp;

Carter says it is also well received because the tax is so tangible and people can go out and see what that money is going towards.&nbsp;

Carter says money in the CIP goes towards projects to help improve the city, which, more importantly, includes money to help with the city’s basic infrastructure.&nbsp;

"Historically we've put quite a bit of CIP money into maintaining roads and streets, we have a program that funds curb and sidewalk replacement which is a property owner responsibility, but the CIP enables us to do a cost share program where the property owner pays a portion and the CIP pays a portion," Carter says.&nbsp;

Carter says these programs would not be in place if it were not for the help of the capital improvement program.&nbsp;

Growth in farm real estate values remained strong but showed some signs of easing alongside higher interest rates. 

The Kansas City Federal Reserve says the average interest rates on farm loans increased from record lows at the beginning of last year to decade highs by December of 2022. 

Despite the rapid rise in rates, the value of farmland continued to increase, but at a more tempered pace than earlier in the year. 

The growth in farmland values has softened most for lower-priced land and in states most heavily affected by drought. Looking ahead, a majority of bankers expect higher interest rates to have a negative effect on farm real estate, and some anticipate a decline in values. 

Farm finances and credit conditions were supported by strong commodity prices in 2022, and the outlook for 2023 remained positive despite some persistent risks. Higher expenses and adverse weather continue to be concerning.

DeKalb County Sheriff Kasey Keesaman is taking seriously
reports from county residents of a man impersonating a sheriff’s deputy who
pulled him over.

Keesaman says his office received two reports of a suspicious
stop near Fairport. The first stop occurred on the morning of the 16th
on State Route A. A person behind the wheel of a gray/silver newer model GMC Denali
SUV had emergency vehicle lights on the inside dash. The second stop came the
next day at around the same time on the same road. Both times, the “officer”
stop motorists he pulled them over for driving too slow with both responding
that they had driven slowly due to icy road conditions.

Both times, the man asked the drivers if they had anything in
their vehicles that could harm him. Both drivers replied that they did not. After
a few more questions, the man then walked back to his vehicle and drove off.

Neither driver suffered any harm or loss of property.

Still, Keesaman says he takes such reports seriously.

“We have a hard enough time in law enforcement, we don’t need
somebody that’s going to be putting more distress out there in the community,”
Keesaman tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.

Both drivers report the man to be a white male, about six-foot
tall, in his mid-30s, wearing a gray/tan uniform that had county deputy/sheriff
on the front. The uniform had no name tag. He drove a car with no markings with
civilian license plates. He did not identify an agency he worked for.

Keesaman says his office is investigating the incidents and
trying to determine if anything similar happened in neighboring counties.

“Something I kind of take personally,” Keesaman says. “There’s
a lot of evil out there and a lot of criminals that want to try to take advantage
of people and they’ll find a way to do and they’ll try it. So, we’re taking it
very serious and trying to gather up leads and we’re working with other
agencies.”

Keesaman says the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office doesn’t use
unmarked vehicles in traffic stops.

The office didn’t conduct any stops either of those days and
have inquired with the Missouri Highway Patrol and neighboring agencies and
none report traffic stops on those days.

Keesaman advises motorists to always pull over when approached
by an apparent official vehicle. If suspicious, call 911 to verify the person
pulling you over is indeed an official, law enforcement officer.

Also, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with
information to contact the office at 816-449-5802.

DeKalb County Sheriff Keesaman warns of deputy impersonation

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after a weekend arrest.

Felon wanted in Buchanan County jailed in Kansas

KFEQ celebrates 100 years of broadcasting all this year and
the impact of the station extends beyond St. Joseph and the Midland Empire.

Former Missouri Broadcasters Association Executive Director
Don Hicks recalls the impact former KFEQ General Manager Ted Griffin had on
Missouri broadcasters after Griffin left KFEQ to become the first executive
director of the MBA in 1972.

“Ted came in on ground zero; just built it,” Hicks tells
KFEQ/St. Joseph Post in an interview. “He built the association.”

Hicks says Griffin and his wife, Dottie, inherited a bunch of
boxes in a hallway of an office building in downtown Jefferson City. The MBA
had lost its lease.

Hicks succeeded Griffin and credits Griffin with creating the
structure the association enjoys today.

“They hired the right guy,” Hicks says. “Ted was highly regarded
and well-respected by everyone who knew him. Everybody knew him to be what he
was. He was a hardworking, honest guy.”

Former KFEQ General Manager Gene Millard worked under Griffin at
KFEQ, then worked with his former boss at the MBA. Millard says you cannot talk
about Ted without talking about his wife, Dottie.

“Well, when they got Ted, they got the package,” Millard tells
KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. &nbsp;“They got Ted and Dottie.
Dottie did the book work and did the internal office communication, kept the
files. They were just a great team. Planned great meetings and gathered a unity
among Missouri broadcasters that we were on the same mission in many respects.”

Griffin would serve a lengthy term, leading the MBA, serving
from 1972 until the end of 1993.

A former KFEQ Agriculture Director is making a national impact
still.

Tom Brand directed KFEQ agriculture programming from 1996
until 2011, when he left to become National Association of Farm Broadcasters
Executive Director.

Brand says his work with Millard influences him as he leads
the NAFB.

“Gene was very hands-on when it came to programming and just what
we were engaged in each day,” Brand tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post, “but, at the same
time, he let me do my own thing.”

Brand says the first year he worked at KFEQ, he was trying to
figure out how best to present commodity markets and cover farm news, the second
year he attempted to make it his own, and the third year he began to feel the
department actually was his own.

Brand says the advice and guidance Millard gave him was
invaluable. Brand says his time at KFEQ influences him today, especially with
the goals NAFB teaches its members:&nbsp;
leave your mark on your community, your workplace, and your industry.

“We like that three-step process of, hey, don’t say I’m going
to be involved with NAFB to begin with, say I’m going to get vested here, in my
community,” Brand says. “I’m going to get vested here, in my workplace and
because of the relationships and the investment that I’ve made in those two
things, it’s just natural that I get involved in my industry and then feed back
to the next generation how they can get involved in their community and their workplace,
too.”

KFEQ's impact stretches beyond St. Joseph

St. Joseph police have released the name of the woman killed
in the train-pedestrian accident on the 14th.

The St. Joseph Police Department reports the Jackson County Medical
Examiner’s office identified the victim as 24-year-old Guadalupe Enriquez, who
was homeless.

Police reported that Enriquez walked in the path of a
southbound train at the crossing near 4th and Michell Streets after 10:30 on
the morning of February 14th.

Police report the conductor blew the train horn, but Enriquez
did not respond.

won $2,000 scholarships after winning the Award of Distinction during the
Cotillion for Achievement ball this past weekend.

The Cotillion for Achievement presented its Award of
Distinction to Lafayette High School Senior Erinn Lotspeich and Central High
School Senior William Hausman.

A total of 16 seniors were chosen as finalists after
completing the required seminars, all chosen based on their academic achievements.

Cotillion for Achievement honors St. Joseph high school seniors

With the Super Bowl in the rearview all eyes in St. Joseph are turning to ensuring the return of Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp this summer. &nbsp;

Mayor John Josendale says the effort to keep Chiefs Training Camp at Missouri Western is a combined effort between the city, Chamber of Commerce, Mosaic Life Care, as well as Missouri Western. &nbsp;

Josendale says the Chiefs are very demanding with Chiefs President Mark Donovan wanting every year to be bigger and better.&nbsp;

"Last year we kind of did that, so this year doing it with the world champion Chiefs and being able to do it in St. Joe, we're looking forward to that," Josendale tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. "So, we're going to plan for them being here, hopefully that comes through in the next couple of months that they're here, and we'll build on that."&nbsp;

Chiefs Training Camp has been hosted at Missouri Western State University since 2010, except for the COVID year.&nbsp; Josendale says currently the deal being negotiated is on a year-to-year basis.&nbsp;

"We know that we did very well last year, that we got very strong reviews, we know that Andy Reid does like being in St. Joe," Josendale says. &nbsp;

Josendale says it's also well known that the players enjoy being here as well.&nbsp;

"They come up here, they stay, they get away from the home life in Kansas City or wherever they're from, it blends them together and puts them in together to where they build that team comradery," Josendale explains.&nbsp;

The Chiefs would be coming back to St. Joe as world champions, after defeating the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.&nbsp; Mayor John Josendale says he thinks it's fair that St. Joseph can take a little credit for that, as the place that journey started.&nbsp;

"We put our best foot forward when we show the town at that, and this is something that's really exciting, not only for us, but when Kansas City wins a world championship, St. Joe wins also," Josendale says.&nbsp;

 </figure>By MATT PIKE&nbsp;St. Joseph Post&nbsp;With the Super Bowl in the rearview all eyes in St. Joseph are turning to ensuring the return of Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp this summer. &nbsp;Mayor John Josendale says the effort to keep Chiefs Training Camp at Missouri Western is a combined effort between the city, Chamber of Commerce, Mosaic Life Care, as well as Missouri Western. &nbsp;Josendale says the Chiefs are very demanding with Chiefs President Mark Donovan wanting every year to be bigger and better.&nbsp;"Last year we kind of did that, so this year doing it with the world champion Chiefs and being able to do it in St. Joe, we're looking forward to that," Josendale tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. "So, we're going to plan for them being here, hopefully that comes through in the next couple of months that they're here, and we'll build on that."&nbsp;Chiefs Training Camp has been hosted at Missouri Western State University since 2010, except for the COVID year.&nbsp; Josendale says currently the deal being negotiated is on a year-to-year basis.&nbsp;"We know that we did very well last year, that we got very strong reviews, we know that Andy Reid does like being in St. Joe," Josendale says. &nbsp;Josendale says it's also well known that the players enjoy being here as well.&nbsp;"They come up here, they stay, they get away from the home life in Kansas City or wherever they're from, it blends them together and puts them in together to where they build that team comradery," Josendale explains.&nbsp;The Chiefs would be coming back to St. Joe as world champions, after defeating the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.&nbsp; Mayor John Josendale says he thinks it's fair that St. Joseph can take a little credit for that, as the place that journey started.&nbsp;"We put our best foot forward when we show the town at that, and this is something that's really exciting, not only for us, but when Kansas City wins a world championship, St. Joe wins also," Josendale says.&nbsp;<figure>

St. Joseph hopes to welcome back Super Bowl champs

Last week, Mexican officials issued a decree calling for a ban on imports of some biotech corn used for certain purposes. That ban began last Friday. 

The Mexican government also decreed it would continue to allow imports of biotech corn used as animal feed while exploring substitutes. 

The National Corn Growers Association expressed serious concerns with the accelerated timeline, noting that the administration has been more than patient with Mexico. 

“Our U.S. officials are seeking to enforce a rules-based trading system and stand up for farmers,” says NCGA President Tom Haag. “The integrity of the USMCA, signed by Mexican President Obrador himself, is at stake.” 

He also says singling out corn, the number one U.S. ag export to Mexico, and hastening an import ban on numerous food-grade uses makes USMCA a dead letter unless it’s enforced. NCGA says Mexico appears to be doubling down on its original intended ban in 2024.

Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen and attorneys general from 23 other states filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration’s Waters of the U.S. Rule. 

The group says the EPA’s WOTUS rule “goes beyond the power Congress delegated in the Clean Water Act, raises serious constitutional concerns, and runs roughshod over the Administrative Procedures Act.” 

Knudsen says, “The administration’s water rule limits the use of land and violates the law and U.S. Constitution. 

The EPA greatly overstepped its authority by trying to claim jurisdiction over land and water not connected to any navigable water.” The attorneys general say they’re fighting to protect farm and ranching operations, mining and energy workers, and infrastructure and housing projects across Montana and the entire country that will be harmed if this overreaching and unconstitutional rule takes effect. 

Montana and the other states will motion for a preliminary injunction to stop the rule while it’s under litigation. &nbsp;

State Attorneys General file lawsuit over WOTUS

ANDREW COUNTY—Two people were injured in an accident just after 4:30p.m. Friday in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2014 Ford F150 driven by Mark S. Werner, 72, St. Joseph, was northbound on U.S.59 near County Club Place Drive in Country Club Village.

The pickup traveled off the road, struck a Do Not Enter sign, began skidding, rolled, struck a stop sign and rolled into a parking lot of a gas station.

Andrew County EMS transported Werner and a passenger Elizabeth J. Werner, 69, St. Joseph, to Mosaic Life Care. They were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.
