BROWN COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating the CEO/RN of a Kansas hospice care facility for alleged drug and sex crimes.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday, the Brown County Sheriffs office arrested 48-year-old Jeremy Stover 48 of Hiawatha on requested charges that include multiple offenses of Sexual Battery, Promoting the Sale of Sexual Relations, and Possession of Narcotics, according to Brown County Sheriff John Merchant.

The arrest followed the execution of multiple search warrants &nbsp;involving digital media and social media platforms. Many hours were spent by the Brown County Sheriff's Office and Brown County Attorney on the investigation, which remains ongoing.&nbsp;

Data from USDA’s Economic Research Service shows food away from home spending varied during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

In April 2020, spending at full-service restaurants declined 71 percent compared with April 2019. 

Spending at fast-food restaurants fell 32 percent, and spending at all other food-away-from-home establishments dropped 41 percent over the same period. 

Full-service restaurants typically offer food and alcohol to seated customers, which was hard to provide during the pandemic. However, the limited physical interaction with customers made it easier for fast-food establishments to adapt to COVID-19 restrictions, and by the second half of 2020, they managed to recover to pre-pandemic spending levels. 

Despite efforts by many full-service restaurants to expand takeout and delivery services, these outlets took slightly longer to bounce back, and returned to pre-pandemic spending in March 2021. 

By December 2021, both full-service and limited-service restaurant spending had fully recovered and were each about 10 percent higher than in December 2019.

Just after 8 p.m. Friday, a Brown County deputy initiated a traffic stop in the vicinity of 5th avenue West and 15th Street in Horton, according to Brown County Sheriff John Merchant.

The Sheriff's Department's K-9 Carla indicated on the vehicle and an investigation followed.&nbsp; 

Deputies then arrested 23-year-old John Whipple of Sioux Falls, South Dakota on requested charges of Possession of Meth, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.&nbsp;

Eric Cournoyer, 39, of Wagner, South Dakota was arrested on requested charges of Possession of Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and&nbsp; Possession of Marijuana.

 Brad Langland 56, Sioux Falls, South Dakota was arrested on requestd charges of possession of Meth, possession of Marijuana and possession of Drug Paraphernalia.&nbsp; Deputies also seized approximately 6 grams of Meth, pipes, baggies, needles, syringes and marijuana as evidence, according to Merchant.

Sheriff: 3 from out of state were transporting drugs in Kansas

As people file their tax returns leading up to the filing deadline, officials with the IRS say there are several myths that people may think are true. &nbsp;

Spokesman Michael Devine says one of those myths is that if you call the Internal Revenue Service you will get your tax return back faster. &nbsp;

Devine says while this is not true, there are tools to get an idea of where your refund is. &nbsp;

"The where's my refund tool on IRS.gov, or through 800-829-1954, this is a tool that you can go in, put your information in, and it will tell you what the status of your refund is," Devine tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. &nbsp;

While you can't call the IRS to speed up getting your tax refund, Devine says there is a way to ensure you get your tax return quicker. &nbsp;

Devine says when you file, the best way to do it is setting up direct deposit and completing your filing online.&nbsp;

"Your refund will be back in your bank account in 21 days of less, usually it's a lot less than 21 days unless there's a problem, so direct deposit and E-file is the best way to do your return," Devine explains. "It's the fastest, the safest, and the quickest way to get your refund."&nbsp;

Devine says so far this tax season 90% of tax returns have been filed online. Tax forms or requests for an extension are due by April 18th.&nbsp;

If you're unsure if your tax return is going to be as big as you'd like it to be, the IRS has a tool for you so that you can check throughout the year how you're doing. &nbsp;

Devine says most people want a big tax return, even if that means getting paid less during the year. &nbsp;

Devine says before tax season hits the IRS has a withholdings tool that people can use to check on if their tax return will be as big as they'd like.&nbsp;

"You can put your information in and get a very, very good estimate of how you're doing, whether your being over withheld, which means you're going to get a big refund, or under withheld, which means you're going to have to pay," Devine says. "And then you can adjust your withholding through your employer so that you get a little refund, and have more money all year, it's totally up to you."&nbsp;

Devine says you should check the withholding tool in June and December to have a good estimate of where you are at for the upcoming tax season.&nbsp;

Many myths surround tax season

Nathan Simington, a Commissioner for the Federal Communications Commission, spoke out on the continued importance of AM radio to public safety. 

He says the issue of continuing to include AM radios in electric vehicles deserves urgent attention. 

“As electric vehicle adoption increases, we must not leave behind those in rural areas who depend on radio for their news and alerts,” Simington says. 

He points out that growing up in rural Saskatchewan was like living in a connectivity desert. “Back then, like now, radio was essential for staying connected,” he says. 

“While some things have changed, not enough has changed to eliminate the need for radio, and the situation is similar in the United States.” 

He also believes the FCC has a duty to make clear how valuable AM radio is to its listeners. “Further, we should be good stewards of the AM radio band,” he says. “That includes safeguarding AM radio reception.” &nbsp;

A USDA report says the largest farms are adopting auto-steer guidance technology at significantly higher rates. 

After sorting farms into five equally-sized groups, the agency found that among farmers who were growing corn in 2016, 73 percent of farms in the largest category adopted guidance at the highest rates. 

The rates were similar for the largest farms growing other commodities in later years: 82 percent of the largest winter wheat farms in 2017, 68 percent of the largest soybean farms in 2018, and 67 percent of the largest cotton farms in 2019. 

Adoption rates were smaller among the smallest farms in the country: 10 percent of the smallest corn farms in 2016, 11 percent of the smallest soybean farms in 2018, and seven percent of the smallest winter wheat farms in 2017. However, fifty percent of the smallest cotton farms have adopted the technology.

Former Kansas City Federal Reserve President Esther George
isn’t sure what her future holds after being required to retire at the age of
65.

George, a native of Faucett, began as a bank examiner with the
Federal Reserve in 1982. It was then that George saw first-hand what inflation
and higher interest rates did to the regional banking industry when several
banks failed.

“And so I got to see first-hand how those costs translate to
communities, to people that depend on their jobs, depend on their bank for
their livelihoods,” George says in an interview with KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.

This is the first of a two-part series from our interview with
George.

George points out 1982 was the last time the country
experienced the high inflation that plagues the economy now. She says the rash
of bank failures and the negative impact the recession had on businesses in
rural America as well as throughout the country reminded her that, to the
Federal Reserve, stability in the economy is job one.

The ripple effects of the Federal Reserve’s insistence on high
interest rates to curb inflation came home to George in a very personal way.

“And I stood on the front porch of my family farm in 1983 and
watched an auction because of that,” George says. “And it affected my life. My
dad, at a very senior age, older than 65, took a job in St. Joe to help make
ends meet.”

Those lessons, both as a bank examiner and a member of a
family farm near Faucett, informed her decisions as Kansas City Federal Reserve
President and CEO. George served in that role from 2011 until January of this
year, succeeding Thomas Hoenig.

George worked under Hoenig when she first came to the Fed.
Hoenig was a senior officer in banking supervision then. George says Hoenig
emphasized listening even as bank examiners made judgments on the financial soundness
of a bank.

“But he also knew unless you listen carefully to what the
banker was telling you, you listen carefully to what was going on in that
community, you couldn’t really put all those pieces together and make those
judgments,” George says. “And that benefited me enormously throughout my
career.”

Esther George says bank examiner work informed her time as KC Fed CEO

ANDREW COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before 3:30p.m. Monday in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Nissan Frontier driven by Gregory A. Mosser, 59, St. Joseph, was westbound on County Road 3483 four miles south of Savannah. The driver failed to yield at U.S. 71. 

The pickup traveled into the path of a northbound 2022 Ford Explorer driven by Jayme L. Voss, 40, Savannah.&nbsp; 

The SUV struck the pickup. After impact, both vehicles traveled off the west side of Business 71 and the pickup overturned.

Andrew County EMS transported Mosser to Mosaic. Voss was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

The deputy arrested 40-year-old&nbsp; Zach Brown of Highland on requested charges of Possession of Meth, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug and Paraphernalia&nbsp; and Felony Parole Violation.

Brown has previous convictions for battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, flee or attempt to elude, destroy evidence in a federal case and for drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections. He had been out of prison since September.

Hulsey, who’s “Transcendence:&nbsp; Truth in
Nature” exhibit is now on display, because Hulsey will be giving a talk about
the exhibit.

“And, also that night, John’s going to be
co-teaching the kid’s media class for kids ages 6 to 12,” Doolan says. “So, it’s
a great way to meet John, see his work, and ask him some questions.”

Hulsey is from Lawrence and attended the Kansas
City Art Institute. His exhibition at Albrecht runs through April 16th.

Albrecht Executive Director Eric Fuson says it is
a great opportunity to learn more about the artist and his art.

“It’s nice to have some insight,” Fuson says. “It
gives a lot of life to the painting and what the person’s thinking. You start
to look at it completely different.”

A new scholarship opportunity will aim to help the workforce shortage in the healthcare industry. &nbsp;

The Mosaic Life Care Foundation has launched the Health Care Workforce Development Scholarship&nbsp;

Foundation President Julie Gaddie says with the work force shortage in certain healthcare areas, the job has become a nationwide talent competition of sorts.&nbsp;

"So, this is a way to entice our high school seniors' interest in healthcare, to not only support their educational experience, but also to build a relationship with them," Gaddie tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "In hopes that post-graduation they would consider coming back to Mosaic Life Care to service the northwest Missouri region as a healthcare provider."&nbsp;

Gaddie says when students think about joining the healthcare field, it's as nurses or physicians, but she says there are many other careers beyond that.&nbsp;

"We see things like respiratory therapy and being some kind of a lab scientist, thinking about jobs in technology, thinking about jobs in various services that are included in that healthcare experience as very high need areas," Gaddie explains. &nbsp;

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is March 15th and it is open to any graduating senior in the region looking to go to school for healthcare.&nbsp;

Gaddie says for right now the scholarship will only be awarded to one student, but they hope that in the future that can expand.&nbsp;

"We are anxious ot see the response from our high school seniors and the number of applicants that come in," Gaddie says. "And that will help us gauge the demand for this kind of scholarship and future plans for the number of scholarships to be handed out."&nbsp;

The scholarship can be applied for on the Mosaic Life Care Foundation website for students that qualify.&nbsp;

By MATT PIKE&nbsp;St. Joseph Post&nbsp;A new scholarship opportunity will aim to help the workforce shortage in the healthcare industry. &nbsp;The Mosaic Life Care Foundation has launched the Health Care Workforce Development Scholarship&nbsp;Foundation President Julie Gaddie says with the work force shortage in certain healthcare areas, the job has become a nationwide talent competition of sorts.&nbsp;"So, this is a way to entice our high school seniors' interest in healthcare, to not only support their educational experience, but also to build a relationship with them," Gaddie tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "In hopes that post-graduation they would consider coming back to Mosaic Life Care to service the northwest Missouri region as a healthcare provider."&nbsp;Gaddie says when students think about joining the healthcare field, it's as nurses or physicians, but she says there are many other careers beyond that.&nbsp;"We see things like respiratory therapy and being some kind of a lab scientist, thinking about jobs in technology, thinking about jobs in various services that are included in that healthcare experience as very high need areas," Gaddie explains. &nbsp;The deadline to apply for the scholarship is March 15th and it is open to any graduating senior in the region looking to go to school for healthcare.&nbsp;Gaddie says for right now the scholarship will only be awarded to one student, but they hope that in the future that can expand.&nbsp;"We are anxious ot see the response from our high school seniors and the number of applicants that come in," Gaddie says. "And that will help us gauge the demand for this kind of scholarship and future plans for the number of scholarships to be handed out."&nbsp;The scholarship can be applied for on the Mosaic Life Care Foundation website for students that qualify.&nbsp;

Johnson served 12 years in the Missouri Senate, where he served as Assistant
Majority Leader and chaired seven committees during his tenure.

Johnson served as Presiding Commissioner from 1983 to 1990. He won election to the Missouri Senate in 1990 and won re-election in 1994 and 1998.

Johnson also served as the Missouri Tourism Commission and
presided as president of the Missouri Association of Counties.

DAVIESS COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 11p.m. Sunday in Daviess County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a Polaris Ranger 900 driven by Caleb D. Waller, 22, Grand View, was southbound on a private drive along Route J four miles south of Altamont.

The UTV traveled off the west side of the driveway and struck a pole. The driver lost control, struck multiple trees and came to rest on its wheels.

EMS transported Waller to Cameron Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Ford F150 driven by Donald D. Boswell, 86, Lamoni, Iowa, was southbound on at Interstate 35 one mile north of Eagleville.

The pickup traveled off the east side of the road and the driver overcorrected. The pickup returned to the road, began to skid, traveled off the west side of the road, struck a mile marker post and overturned.

North Harrison County Ambulance transported Boswell to Harrison County Community Hospital. He was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

KANSAS CITY– A Farley, Missouri man pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to sexually assaulting a 3-year-old victim to produce child pornography and distribute it to others through the Kik application, according to the United State's Attorney.

Andrew J. McCardie, 36, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Brian C. Wimes to two counts of producing child pornography and one count of distributing child pornography. McCardie remains in federal custody without bond pending his sentencing hearing, which has not yet been scheduled.

McCardie communicated with individuals through the Kik application beginning in January 2022, using a screen name to indicate he was willing and able to produce child pornography and distribute to other persons. McCardie produced 19 images and videos of child pornography involving a 3-year-old child victim on Feb. 11 and 12, 2022. Most of these were created live, meaning he was recording himself actively sexually abusing the child victim while communicating with other persons over Kik, and sending those images and videos to them during the abuse.

On March 5, 2022, McCardie created another live video during his sexual abuse of the child victim. McCardie didn’t know he was communicating with an undercover law enforcement officer through Kik. McCardie told the undercover officer he had been “doing these requests on Kik for a couple years now” and discussed how to sexually abuse a child. During this conversation, McCardie sent the undercover officer a screenshot of a chat he was having with the Kik user he produced the video for, in order to prove he had created the video live.

On March 6, 2022, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at McCardie’s residence. The entry team attempted to take control of McCardie near the entrance of the residence but he resisted, initially holding a firearm as officers entered. McCardie was brought out into the yard, where he continued to resist before being handcuffed and placed under arrest. McCardie attempted to hide his iPhone in the bedroom closet, but officers found the phone and seized it in order to conduct a forensic investigation.

McCardie’s Kik account included 218 images and videos of child pornography. McCardie sent 58 separate videos and images of child pornography to other Kik users, and had received more than 200 images and videos of child pornography from other Kik users between Jan. 2 and March 7, 2022.

Under federal statutes, McCardie is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of 80 years in federal prison without parole. The maximum statutory sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes, as the sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

Platte Co. man admits sexually assaulting child to produce porn 

Savannah High School reported that Athletic Director Chad Dreyer died unexpectedly&nbsp;Friday evening.

The school notified families in the district via email. School officials say counselors will be available Monday morning to aid grieving students and staff members.

A Savannah alum, Dreyer had worked with the school since 2002. He was named as Savannah's A.D. in February 2016. He also served as an assistant on the football team.

"The entire Savannah R3 community extends our sincerest condolences to the Dreyer family and friends," said school officials in an email Friday.

The search for St. Joseph’s next police chief has officially begun.

The city announced Friday that Public Sector Search &amp; Consulting, a firm that specializes in conducting national level recruitments for police executives, was hired by the city of St. Joseph to assist in this effort.

The search firm hosted multiple virtual meetings of diverse internal and external stakeholders and administered an online survey to both the police department and the community.

Responses to the surveys were significant with feedback from residents, businesses, police department employees and several community partners about the qualifications wanted in potential candidates.

The city hopes to announce a new police chief this spring. The recruitment profile can be found on the city’s website.

City of St. Joseph officially opens search for new police chief

The St. Joseph Police Department is seeing a string of thefts at storage units around the city. &nbsp;

Interim Police Chief Dave Hart says these types of thefts come in cycles, sometimes the department will see many at a time, and then none at all. &nbsp;

Hart says that many people when they get a storage unit develop the bad habit of not going out and checking on them. &nbsp;

"A lot of these reports we're getting, the last time somebody was at the storage unit was a month, two months ago, so it expands our window of when things have occurred," Hart tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. "And it makes it harder for us to recover people's property if they've had a month to move the property before we've even started our investigation." &nbsp;

Hart says the department is encouraging people with storage units to go out and at least check the locks and to ensure your items are still inside at least once a month. &nbsp;

Hart says for those who are looking into renting a storage unit, make sure there is proper security measures&nbsp;

"Do they have video cameras? Is it well lit? Are there people around, are there people on site, or is the traffic in and out enough that it doesn't sit there for a week with nobody coming and going, except for the criminals that are stealing your stuff?" Hart says.&nbsp;

Hart says not having a good record of what's in your unit can hold up an investigation with officers being unsure what they're looking for.&nbsp;

Hart says it’s hard to pinpoint a reason that these thefts occur. &nbsp;

"Some of the groups are motivated by greed, money, some of them are funding drug habits things like that, so it depends on the group and what their motivations are and what they're looking for," Hart explains. "They'll take some of the weirdest things and they'll leave some things that appear to have value, or vice versa, it's hard to say."&nbsp;

Hart encourages everyone that has their property stored in a unit to get out and check it at least once a month, if not more, to ensure all your property is still inside.&nbsp;

Amelia Earhart speaks.&nbsp;She smiles, looks up, and begins to talk about her life experiences.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Wait – didn’t Amelia Earhart disappear in the South Pacific 80 years ago?&nbsp;

Yes, but she is alive again – at least virtually – in an incredible museum that will open in her hometown of Atchison in spring, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Joe Brentano is director of the new Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum.&nbsp;Makinzie Burghart is director of development.&nbsp;Burghart grew up in Atchison as did Amelia Earhart 120 years earlier.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Earhart and her younger sister, Muriel, spent many of their early years at their grandparent’s home in Atchison.&nbsp;In 1908, she saw her first airplane at the Iowa State Fair, but it didn’t excite her at the time.&nbsp;

Years later, she and a friend were at a flying exposition when a stunt pilot dived at them.&nbsp; “I believe that little red airplane spoke to me as it swished by,” Earhart later wrote.&nbsp;

After attending another air show, she was hooked on flying.&nbsp;She would go on to become the first president of the Ninety-Nines, a women's aviation organization; the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic; first woman to fly solo coast-to-coast; and the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to the mainland.&nbsp;

She received many honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross from Congress, before disappearing on an ill-fated attempt to fly around the globe.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Atchison celebrates the Amelia Earhart history through tours of her childhood home and an annual Amelia Earhart festival.&nbsp;But in 2016, a unique opportunity arose.&nbsp;There was an opportunity to purchase a Lockheed Electra 10-E – the same model as Amelia Earhart flew on her last flight, and the only one left in the world.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Citizens of Atchison, led by Karen and the late Ladd Seaberg, formed the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation and raised the funds to purchase the plane.&nbsp;It was affectionately named Muriel in honor of Amelia’s younger sister.&nbsp;The plane was carefully transported by trailer, 1,206 miles from California to Atchison.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The next step was to create a museum to display the plane.&nbsp;That led to the design and construction of the new Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum – in an actual hangar and terminal in a 1930s-style art deco building at the local airport. “This was a $17 million project,” Burghart said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Outside the museum stands a statue of Earhart, identical to the one that Kansas placed in statuary hall in the nation’s capitol.&nbsp;Inside the entrance, one is greeted by a hologram of Earhart.&nbsp;This electronic CGI image speaks her inspiring words from a century-plus ago, expressing the importance of transcending boundaries.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The centerpiece of the museum is Muriel, the Lockheed Electra 10-E.&nbsp;Muriel is surrounded by 14 incredible, high-tech, state-of-the-art interactive displays.&nbsp;Not only are these educational, they correlate with national and Kansas STEM curriculum content standards.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Exhibits include a digitized version of Earhart’s flight logbook, 3D holograms of aviation advancements through the years, and a display of other key female accomplishments.&nbsp; Guests can climb inside a full-sized replica of Muriel’s cockpit.&nbsp;At another station, guests can experience a virtual reality re-creation of Earhart’s 1932 transatlantic flight. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Another exhibit not only describes Earhart’s other pursuits as a nurse, mechanic, and fashion designer, it allows visitors to select one of these for which the computer will create a personalized on-screen avatar of the visitor in related clothing.&nbsp;Amazing!&nbsp;&nbsp;

What actually happened to Amelia Earhart?&nbsp;Step upstairs and the museum shows a map of where she disappeared, with an exhibit of seven alternative scenarios.&nbsp;Guests can study the arguments for and against each scenario and then vote.&nbsp;(I still suspect she’s living in an apartment with Elvis…)&nbsp;&nbsp;

This remarkable museum will open in mid-April 2023 in the rural community of Atchison, population 10,885 people.&nbsp;Now, that’s rural.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>By RON WILSON Huck Boyd National Institute for Rural Development&nbsp;Amelia Earhart speaks.&nbsp;She smiles, looks up, and begins to talk about her life experiences.&nbsp;&nbsp;Wait – didn’t Amelia Earhart disappear in the South Pacific 80 years ago?&nbsp;Yes, but she is alive again – at least virtually – in an incredible museum that will open in her hometown of Atchison in spring, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Joe Brentano is director of the new Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum.&nbsp;Makinzie Burghart is director of development.&nbsp;Burghart grew up in Atchison as did Amelia Earhart 120 years earlier.&nbsp;&nbsp;Earhart and her younger sister, Muriel, spent many of their early years at their grandparent’s home in Atchison.&nbsp;In 1908, she saw her first airplane at the Iowa State Fair, but it didn’t excite her at the time.&nbsp;Years later, she and a friend were at a flying exposition when a stunt pilot dived at them.&nbsp; “I believe that little red airplane spoke to me as it swished by,” Earhart later wrote.&nbsp;After attending another air show, she was hooked on flying.&nbsp;She would go on to become the first president of the Ninety-Nines, a women's aviation organization; the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic; first woman to fly solo coast-to-coast; and the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to the mainland.&nbsp;She received many honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross from Congress, before disappearing on an ill-fated attempt to fly around the globe.&nbsp;&nbsp;Atchison celebrates the Amelia Earhart history through tours of her childhood home and an annual Amelia Earhart festival.&nbsp;But in 2016, a unique opportunity arose.&nbsp;There was an opportunity to purchase a Lockheed Electra 10-E – the same model as Amelia Earhart flew on her last flight, and the only one left in the world.&nbsp;&nbsp;Citizens of Atchison, led by Karen and the late Ladd Seaberg, formed the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation and raised the funds to purchase the plane.&nbsp;It was affectionately named Muriel in honor of Amelia’s younger sister.&nbsp;The plane was carefully transported by trailer, 1,206 miles from California to Atchison.&nbsp;&nbsp;The next step was to create a museum to display the plane.&nbsp;That led to the design and construction of the new Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum – in an actual hangar and terminal in a 1930s-style art deco building at the local airport. “This was a $17 million project,” Burghart said.&nbsp;&nbsp;Outside the museum stands a statue of Earhart, identical to the one that Kansas placed in statuary hall in the nation’s capitol.&nbsp;Inside the entrance, one is greeted by a hologram of Earhart.&nbsp;This electronic CGI image speaks her inspiring words from a century-plus ago, expressing the importance of transcending boundaries.&nbsp;&nbsp;The centerpiece of the museum is Muriel, the Lockheed Electra 10-E.&nbsp;Muriel is surrounded by 14 incredible, high-tech, state-of-the-art interactive displays.&nbsp;Not only are these educational, they correlate with national and Kansas STEM curriculum content standards.&nbsp;&nbsp;Exhibits include a digitized version of Earhart’s flight logbook, 3D holograms of aviation advancements through the years, and a display of other key female accomplishments.&nbsp; Guests can climb inside a full-sized replica of Muriel’s cockpit.&nbsp;At another station, guests can experience a virtual reality re-creation of Earhart’s 1932 transatlantic flight. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Another exhibit not only describes Earhart’s other pursuits as a nurse, mechanic, and fashion designer, it allows visitors to select one of these for which the computer will create a personalized on-screen avatar of the visitor in related clothing.&nbsp;Amazing!&nbsp;&nbsp;What actually happened to Amelia Earhart?&nbsp;Step upstairs and the museum shows a map of where she disappeared, with an exhibit of seven alternative scenarios.&nbsp;Guests can study the arguments for and against each scenario and then vote.&nbsp;(I still suspect she’s living in an apartment with Elvis…)&nbsp;&nbsp;This remarkable museum will open in mid-April 2023 in the rural community of Atchison, population 10,885 people.&nbsp;Now, that’s rural.&nbsp;&nbsp;For more information, see&nbsp;<a href="http://www.ameliaearharthangarmuseum.org/">www.ameliaearharthangarmuseum.org</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Amelia Earhart speaks – at least in virtual form at this museum.&nbsp;We commend Karen and Ladd Seaberg, Joe Brentano, Makinzie Burghart, and all those making a difference with this remarkable technology in a museum you won’t want to miss.&nbsp;When Amelia Earhart speaks, I listen.&nbsp;&nbsp;

ANDREW COUNTY —Two people were injured in an accident just after 3p.m. Thursday in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Sterling truck driven by Robert E. Sterling, 54, Maryville, was northbound on CR 150 four miles southwest of Rosendale.

The truck traveled off the east side of the road, returned to the road, traveled off the west side of the road, returned to the road and overturned.

EMS transported Sterling and a passenger Enoch E. Ross, 28, Burlington Junction, to Mosaic Life Care. They were not wearing a seat belts, according to the MSHP.

2 hospitalized after truck overturns in Andrew County

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man after an early morning arrest.

Just after 1a.m. Thursday, police arrested 34-year-old Alan M. Kendrick, 34, Atchison&nbsp; in the 800 block River Road on a District Court warrant for criminal damage to property. 

Kendrick is in custody on requested charges that include possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia which was found on his person during the warrant arrest.&nbsp;

St. Joseph area residents are invited to hear from their
legislators Friday afternoon as the St. Joseph area League of Women Voters
restarts its legislative forums.

Sharon Kosek with the League of Women Voters says the forum
begins at 4:15 Friday afternoon at the Rolling Hills Library, Upper Story Room,
in St. Joseph. Kosek says everyone is invited to attend and hear from their
representatives and senators.

“It will be a very professional, respectful forum,” Kosek
tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr. “As a League of Women Voters representative
and member, it is just so important to encourage people to get involved in
democracy, feel they have a part in it and welcome all those that come.”

Kosek says this is a chance for residents to meet face-t0-face
with those who shape public policy in Jefferson City.

“You can’t just get informed by looking at the Internet, that
is not the place to be informed,” according to Kosek. “You can learn just one
thing about an issue that you had no idea and that just makes you a better
informed voter. It’s just so important to get involved.”
