GENTRY COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just before 5p.m. Saturday in Gentry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Cody J. Olson, 36, McFall, was northbound on Route ZZ one mile north of McFall.

The car traveled off the east side of the road, struck the ground, became airborne, struck a MODOT sign and came to rest off the roadway. Grand River ambulance transported Olson to Mosaic in Albany. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Dodge Caliber driven by a 16-year-old Chillicothe boy was&nbsp; westbound on LIV 232 one mile east of Chillicothe.

The car was traveling too fast for conditions. It skidded across a narrow bridge, off the north side of the road and overturned onto its top in a ditch.

A private vehicle transported the teen to Hedrick Medical Center. He was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

A new exhibition coming to the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art will feature works from an artist who formerly lived in St. Joseph.  

Director Eric Fuson says the Then is Now exhibition will feature works from Ani Hoover, an artist who used to take classes at the museum before she moved to Buffalo, New York.  

"She brings in a lot of influences from our pop culture with some of the materials she uses, from beads to little figures you name it she uses it all, but she combines that with the idea of memory jars and Victorian boxes, even African American grave tributes, she kind of brings all those together," Fuson tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr.  

Fuson describes the materials the items the works are made out of as found items 

"You don't necessarily make every single piece of something, you kind of start to incorporate those in," Fuson explains. "You know, I collect all kinds of things and I claim that as my visual library, if I was somebody that read books all the times I would have tons and tons of books and you'd think wowee, but I have things instead and artists do that a lot, they find inspiration in the materials they're made out of, the texture, the color, the patterns." 

Hoover's exhibit titled Then is Now will open today and run through November 5th on the main floor of the museum.  

Also featured upstairs at the museum through the 5th will be Current Works by the Kansas City Society for Contemporary Photographers.

St. Joseph hosts its first marathon Saturday
morning with city officials hopeful the city can accommodate the more than 500
runners and not disrupt traffic too severely.

St. Joseph City Manager Bryan Carter says this is
a huge undertaking for the city, especially with the logistics of making sure
the route is safe for the runners and not too inconvenient for the residents.

“We’re trying to make sure that we can get the
roads closed where they need to be for those runners to proceed while not making
it a significant inconvenience to the rest of the community,” Carter tells host
Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. “We can’t shut down a third of the city on a
Saturday to accommodate a marathon. So, we have to find a way to make the two
things to work together.”

The route begins at Civic Center Park. It mostly
follows the Parkway system, but as it emerges from the north end of St. Joseph,
it does weave through Ashland Avenue onto Noyes Boulevard before resuming its
route on the parkway system to south St. Joseph.

Carter says the parkway system offers the city a
unique venue for the races.

“Now, it’s going to have an impact,” Carter
cautions. “People use the parkway for transportation every day. So, there’s
definitely going to be an impact. But, for the most part, you can close most of
the parkway without significantly impacting the community.”

Carter says the city hopes to balance the safety
of the runners with the transportation needs of the city. Carter has high hopes
for this event.

“The goal here is to make this thing a success, make
it something that the people who come here, who run here, that they want to
come back for,” Carter says. “That they enjoy being in St. Joe, they enjoy running
on the parkway, seeing the parkway.”

Carter says making this an annual event could
have a significant impact on the city.

“The running community is huge and they travel.
How do we make sure that they come back here?” Carter says that is a question that
planners have been asking themselves.&nbsp; “From
what I understand, there are runners from 25 or 26 states will be in town. We
have to capitalize on that. We have to make the best experience we possibly can
for them.”

Runners taking on the marathon and half-marathon
begin their race at 7am Saturday. The 10K begins at 7:30am with the 5K
beginning 15 minutes later.

St. Joseph ready for 500+ runners for 1st ever marathon

The Agricultural Right to Repair Act was introduced in both the House and Senate, and the legislation is strongly supported by the National Farmers Union. 

NFU President Rob Larew says the Right to Repair Act is an important step in the fight to ensure farmers across the country have fair and affordable access to the parts, tools, and information they need to fix farm equipment. 

“I want to thank the officials who introduced the bill to guarantee farmers the Right to Repair their equipment,” he says. 

“NFU stands ready to help push this bill forward.” Right to Repair is a pillar of NFU’s Fairness for Farmers campaign to address the monopoly crisis in agriculture. 

Just three manufacturers control the majority of farm equipment production, sales, and repairs, and use software locks to prevent farmers and independent mechanics from completing certain repairs. Right to Repair could save farmers $4.2 billion every year.

HARRISON COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just after 6p.m. Thursday in Harrison County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2014 Jeep Cherokee driven by Courtney K. Kaiser, 43, Edmund, Oklahoma, was northbound on Interstate 35 nine miles north of Eagleville.

The Jeep traveled off the west side of the road into the median, over the emergency crossover, became airborne, rolled and caught fire.&nbsp;

North Harrison EMS transported Kaiser to Decatur County Hospital. She was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Woman injured after jeep rollover crash, fire

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on two warrants.

On Wednesdy, police arrested 26-year-old&nbsp; Zane T. Boldridge of Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

He remains in custody on total bonds of $5,200 a Johnson County Kansas warrant for failure to appear in court and a Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear in court.&nbsp; 

Boldridge was booked into the Johnson County, Kansas jail in July of 2022 on felony possession allegations and was scheduled for a court appearance last month, according to online jail records.

You probably don’t even want to think about winter, but officials at the St. Joseph Salvation Army are, preparing for their annual coat drive.  

Major Ronald Key says he and his staff are now collecting new and gently used coats for the Salvation Army's annual coat distribution. 

"If you want to donate now, they can either be used coats or they can be new coats or they can be slightly used coats," Key tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "So they need to be kind of clean, the zippers need to work, or if they're button kind of coats they need to be in good shape, but along with the coats we also give out scarves, and hats, and gloves, and things like that also." 

Key says there is a larger need for hats, gloves, and scarves to be donated because every year they run out of those faster than coats 

"That's the thing we really run short of, so if there's somebody out there that says yeah, I can't afford a coat or I have one I use myself, but they have hats and gloves things like that, we'll take those and give them out also," Key says.  

Winter clothes can be dropped off at the Salvation Army's offices throughout the winter as well. 

Last year 650 coats were given out to those in need, which Major Ronald Key says is a pretty standard amount 

"We've been between 600 and 700 since I've been here," Key explains. "We just do it a little different now, we used to do it in one day, so now they come in and get a voucher and then they go over to our warehouse, and they can pick from coats there, we will start giving coats out November 1st." 

To get ready for the event the Salvation Army is starting to collect coats and other winter clothes.  People can bring either new or gently used winter clothes to the Salvation Army at 602 Messanie in St. Joseph.

An annual downtown festival in St. Joseph will bring bluegrass music to the community to help benefit Second Harvest Community Food Bank.  

Bluegrass Bettering Our Community President Jen Gewin says the event, which is in its 14th year, is always well attended.  

"People will set up there in front of the gazebo, it's a beloved stage of the community and bands seem to really enjoy playing at the festival as well," Gewin tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "They love feeling like they're doing something to help the community but also sharing their music. "People that come to the event are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items as a donation to Second Harvest.

"We measure our success not only in the amount of dollars donated but also in the pounds of food that has been received and that can be donated to Second Harvest as well," Gewin explains. "So yes, attendees are absolutely encouraged to bring any food donations that they would like that we can give to Second Harvest." 

Money donations for Second Harvest will also be accepted at the event.  The festival kicks off at 6pm on Friday and at 3pm on Saturday.

"A place where they can come and enjoy a genre of music that is welcoming to all, that's what I love about bluegrass," Gewin happily says. "We have the kind of standard instruments of fiddle, banjo, guitar, whatnot that people are used to, but there's so much that can go into bluegrass."

Bluegrass brings St. Joseph community together to fight hunger

A modest rebound in U.S. wheat production and supplies is improving the outlook for profitability among grain elevators that store wheat. 

Futures market carries have improved for all three major classes of wheat, and the buy basis is widening following a bigger harvest. 

The larger harvest follows two years of poor production and a historic run of inverted futures markets that sapped profitability for storing wheat. 

However, according to CoBank, the major risk to elevators in the year ahead is a sharp rally in wheat prices. Wheat stocks among major exporters are historically tight, and any disruption to the flow of Russian exports through the Black Sea could trigger a sharp price run-up. 

CoBank economist Tanne Ehmke says, “The flood of cheap Russian wheat into the global market may have created a false sense of security in the world wheat market.” Russia is currently harvesting a near-record wheat crop with substantial carryover inventories from last year's record-sized harvest.

Russian wheat exports remain biggest risk to U.S. elevators

St. Joseph Police Chief Paul Luster says it will
take a community effort to reduce juvenile crime.

Another juvenile has been taken into custody
following a shooting, this time from the shooting and wounding of a man at an
auto parts store on St. Joseph Avenue.

Luster says the only real solution to stop the
rise in juvenile crime is taking preventative measures.

“Without positive role models, we have some of
these kids making bad decisions, seeing a lack of conflict resolution skills,”
Luster tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline.

Luster says that while in the past juveniles
might have resorted to using their fists to resolve disputes, now they turn to
weapons.

“And I think the concern is we’re seeing weapons being
brought to those occurrences now with guns and knives and that is a disturbing
pattern and something that we’re definitely tuned in to.”

St. Joseph police officers took into custody a
juvenile following the shooting and wounding of a 35-year-old man outside an
auto parts store on St. Joseph Avenue Tuesday night. Juveniles are prime
suspects in a fatal stabbing in May and a shooting in August.

Luster says it will take a concerted effort by
the community as a whole to address the problem of violent juvenile crime.

“A lot of this is thrown on as this is a law
enforcement problem,” Luster says. “A lot of times it’s really not a law
enforcement problem. What we’re seeing is a more societal problem.”

Luster says he believes in preventative measures,
such as placing police officers in the schools. The St. Joseph Police
Department recently extended its contract with the school district to have a School
Resource Officer in each high school and middle school with one officer
floating between the elementary schools. The contract calls for six School
Resources Officers and one supervisor.

“There is just tremendous value to this partnership
that we have with the school district that really it benefits our entire
community by having those officers in the school,” according to Luster.

Luster sees big benefits from the program.

“Very good program, not only from a safety
standpoint, but just from those developing relationships with our youth which is
very, very important.”

juvenile following the shooting and wounding of a 35-year-old man outside an
auto parts store on St. Joseph Avenue Tuesday night. Juveniles are prime
suspects in a fatal stabbing in May and a shooting in August.Luster says it will take a concerted effort by
the community as a whole to address the problem of violent juvenile crime.“A lot of this is thrown on as this is a law
enforcement problem,” Luster says. “A lot of times it’s really not a law
enforcement problem. What we’re seeing is a more societal problem.”Luster says he believes in preventative measures,
such as placing police officers in the schools. The St. Joseph Police
Department recently extended its contract with the school district to have a School
Resource Officer in each high school and middle school with one officer
floating between the elementary schools. The contract calls for six School
Resources Officers and one supervisor.“There is just tremendous value to this partnership
that we have with the school district that really it benefits our entire
community by having those officers in the school,” according to Luster.Luster sees big benefits from the program.“Very good program, not only from a safety
standpoint, but just from those developing relationships with our youth which is

Over 72 percent of Missouri still in drought conditions

CALDWELL COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just after 10p.m. Wednesday in Caldwell County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2022 Volvo semi driven by Bandyak&nbsp; Volodymr, 63, Troy, Michigan was westbound on U.S. 36 three miles east of Hamilton.

The Volvo rear-ended a 2007 Freightliner semi driven by Brian D. Fredrick, 49, St. Joseph, who was driving slowly on the shoulder attempting to merge in the driving lane. Both vehicles came to rest partially the highway.

Caldwell County EMS transported Volodymr to Liberty Hospital. Fredrick was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Driver hospitalized after rear-end semi crash

DEKALB COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just before 5p.m. Monday in DeKalb County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Kenworth dump truck driven by Justin Ensz, 27, Jamesport, was northbound on Interstate 35 just north of Cameron.

The vehicle struck the rear quarter panel of a 2007 Pontiac G6 driven by Scott S. Losensky, 55, Cameron.&nbsp; After impact the car spun and was being pushed down the road sideways and came to rest in the median.

Cameron ambulance transported Losensky to Cameron Regional Medical Center. Ensz was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by James C. Brown, 84, Bethany, was southbound on 169 two miles south of Gentry. The motorcycle struck two dogs that ran into the road. 

Brown was ejected from the motorcycle. A private vehicle transported him to Mosaic in Albany. He was wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.

Bethany man injured after motorcycle strikes 2 dogs in the road

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new accusations after an arrest.

On Tuesday police arrested 39-year-old Nicholas L. Ruby of Leavenworth on requested charges of&nbsp; criminal threat in the 1300 block U.S.73 Highway, according to Police Cheif Mike Wilson.

Ruby has previous convictions over the past twenty years that include theft, battery, aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and obstruction, according to the Kansas Department Corrections.

Kansas felon jailed for alleged criminal threat

The Kansas City Chiefs announced their High School Coach of the Week honors for the third week of the 2023 season Wednesday.

Winning this honor in the state of Missouri this week is St. Joseph Central Head Coach Regi Trotter.

Central beat William Chrisman this past Friday 52-20 to move to 4-0 on the season - their first 4-0 start since 1986.

Trotter says this accolade from the Chiefs is a symbol of how hard his team is working and how far they've come since one-win seasons in 2020 and '21 and an 0-10 campaign in 2019.

"It's really awesome," Trotter told KFEQ Radio. "It just lets you know our program is moving in the right direction. We have some players and kids that have bought into what we're trying to do, and they're competing very well, which is great to see."

Senior quarterback Caleb Aguilar says Trotter is very deserving of the award.

"He's an amazing man and coach," Aguilar said of Trotter. "He holds a high standard for us. He always makes sure we're alright, we're okay and he always checks up on us. Just a great person and great coach."

Junior running back Gabe Fields says Trotter is a great man on and off the field.

"He's a great coach and I love him, "said Fields. "He's a dog! I love him and I can't wait to see what's left in the tank for him."

Trotter earned this award last season as well after the Indians beat Excelsior Springs last October. As a result of this honor, Central High School will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation.

Trotter was presented a pair of Oakley sunglasses, a congratulatory commemorative Super Bowl 57 coin and a certificate recognizing his selection.

Trotter is now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall.

The Kansas City Chiefs partner with PrepsKC to select Coaches of the Week from Missouri and Kansas each week.

The Indians are on the road this Friday night to face North Kansas City. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

St. Joseph Central's Regi Trotter named Chiefs' High School Coach of the Week

Wrestling entertainment is taking the world by storm and an independent promotion will bring its own group of wrestlers to northwest Missouri 

Tri States Wrestling will bring in a number of wrestlers from across the world to the area, performing four shows in four days starting October 5th in Palmyra.  

Owner John Rockhold says the events are family friendly fun where you'll see two men fighting for a reason. 

"They have a reason to struggle, whether it's a title is on the line or one of them deems the other one has been wronged for whatever reason," Rockhold tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "Or it can be as simple as two guys trying to get position up the ladder to try and get a title shot." 

And Rockhold says if you come to the show, you might even see some audience participation 

"Sometimes the good guy will hold the bad guy and ask for a kid to chop the bad guy in the chest, that will happen, it happened at our last show," Rockhold says.

Rockhold says the event obviously draws in wrestling fans, but his data shows that over half the people that come are not wrestling fans.  

"They just come and they're like hey there's an event going on in town this is different let me check it out, cause we're fairly affordable, so they'll come watch and then they leave going that was funny," Rockhold explains. "And there's always a moment that will latch on, like I really liked it when the really small guy slammed the big guy or the big guy missed a move, there's always some moment they lock into." 

Funds raised during the four shows will benefit the Against All Odds Animal Shelter in Hamilton. More information can be found and tickets can be purchased at <a href="https://www.tristateswrestling.com/">tristateswrestling.com</a>.

Rockhold says the shows are family fun entertainment and they are also a very interactive experience. 

"If you yell at a basketball player, they don't pay attention to you, if you yell at an MMA fighter they ignore you, but if you yell at a pro wrestler they'll turn and look at you," Rockhold points out. "And if you're yelling at them like I hate you or boo you, they'll play it up, and if it's a good guy he'll be like yeah cheer me come on help me, so it's that interactivity that when you yell and scream it brings the energy up and the wrestlers want that." 

The show will feature several wrestlers from all across the country, some wrestling fans might even recognize.   

Shows will be performed in Chillicothe on October 6th and St. Joseph on October 7th.  The final show will take place in Gladstone on October 8th.

It may not be WWE but wrestling is coming to northwest Missouri

Evergy is expected next month to implement a plan that places a premium on electricity prices at times of high demand

Just 10 days after seeking permission to allow customers to opt out of controversial time-of-use pricing, western Missouri’s major electric utility withdrew its request with state regulators.&nbsp;

Under an order from the Missouri Public Service Commission, Evergy is expected next month&nbsp; to implement time-of-use pricing, which places a premium on electricity prices at times of high demand.&nbsp;

Citing&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://missouriindependent.com/2023/07/17/missouri-utility-regulators-plan-for-peak-pricing-prompts-pushback-from-top-republican/">considerable blowback</a>&nbsp;from both the public and elected officials, the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://missouriindependent.com/2023/09/12/evergy-asks-missouri-regulators-to-let-customers-opt-out-of-time-of-use-pricing/">company requested earlier this month</a>&nbsp;that the Public Service Commission grant permission to make the program optional.&nbsp;

But in a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://efis.psc.mo.gov/Document/Display/755533">pleading filed Monday</a>, the utility — which serves about 640,000 Missouri residents — withdrew its request, citing concerns from the Missouri Office of the Public Counsel, which represents ratepayers in utility regulatory proceedings, and others.

The Missouri Public Service Commission canceled a public meeting about the issue scheduled for Tuesday. The Office of the Public Counsel said in a filing last week that parties weren’t given enough time to prepare for the meeting.

The Office of the Public Counsel said in a separate filing with the commission last week that it “strongly opposed” Evergy’s request.&nbsp;

Among other issues, the OPC criticized Evergy’s request to fundamentally change its time-of-use pricing program just weeks before it is set to go into effect.&nbsp;

The OPC’s filing said it understood the public sentiment surrounding the mandatory time-of-use rates.

“However, Evergy itself has presented two studies to the commission that show that a significant portion of its customers will either benefit from the transition to TOU rates or will be unaffected by them,” the OPC’s filing says.&nbsp;

The rates should go into effect, the filing says, “even aside from the legal and policy concerns that arise with changing the tariff sheets at this late stage.”&nbsp;

Clean energy advocacy group Renew Missouri also urged the commission to reject Evergy’s request.

“While an understandable fear warrants specific education efforts by the company, customer misunderstanding or political agitation is not a sufficient justification to allow Evergy to reverse course at the eleventh hour, circumventing proper procedure and creating poor precedent for the weight given to commission orders,” Renew Missouri said in a filing Friday.&nbsp;

Noting the customer blowback, the Renew Missouri argued that the company should adjust its marketing and outreach efforts “rather than succumbing to negative Facebook comments by reversing course and attempting to upend a binding commission order.”

Renew Missouri said while Evergy’s filing was purportedly about customer feedback, it was also driven by politics.

Missouri Senate Majority Leader Cindy O’Laughlin, R-Shelbina,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://missouriindependent.com/2023/07/17/missouri-utility-regulators-plan-for-peak-pricing-prompts-pushback-from-top-republican/">railed against the program</a>&nbsp;in interviews with The Independent, claiming the Public Service Commission wanted Missouri residents to ration their energy to compensate for the switch to green energy and threatening to take legislative action if the commission didn’t reverse course.&nbsp;

“If the commission decides to reverse course based on this campaign of generating anger through social media posting,” Renew Missouri said in its filing, “no commission decision will be safe from political meddling.”

Evergy is still asking the Public Service Commission to change the default time-of-use pricing plan from its “Standard Peak Saver,” which nearly quadruples the price of energy on summer afternoons, to the “Peak Reward Saver,” which has a much smaller price increase at that times and a discount for power used between midnight and 6 a.m.

The Office of the Public Counsel said in a filing last week that parties weren’t given enough time to prepare for the meeting.The Office of the Public Counsel said in a separate filing with the commission last week that it “strongly opposed” Evergy’s request.&nbsp;Among other issues, the OPC criticized Evergy’s request to fundamentally change its time-of-use pricing program just weeks before it is set to go into effect.&nbsp;The OPC’s filing said it understood the public sentiment surrounding the mandatory time-of-use rates.“However, Evergy itself has presented two studies to the commission that show that a significant portion of its customers will either benefit from the transition to TOU rates or will be unaffected by them,” the OPC’s filing says.&nbsp;The rates should go into effect, the filing says, “even aside from the legal and policy concerns that arise with changing the tariff sheets at this late stage.”&nbsp;Clean energy advocacy group Renew Missouri also urged the commission to reject Evergy’s request.“While an understandable fear warrants specific education efforts by the company, customer misunderstanding or political agitation is not a sufficient justification to allow Evergy to reverse course at the eleventh hour, circumventing proper procedure and creating poor precedent for the weight given to commission orders,” Renew Missouri said in a filing Friday.&nbsp;Noting the customer blowback, the Renew Missouri argued that the company should adjust its marketing and outreach efforts “rather than succumbing to negative Facebook comments by reversing course and attempting to upend a binding commission order.”Renew Missouri said while Evergy’s filing was purportedly about customer feedback, it was also driven by politics.Missouri Senate Majority Leader Cindy O’Laughlin, R-Shelbina,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://missouriindependent.com/2023/07/17/missouri-utility-regulators-plan-for-peak-pricing-prompts-pushback-from-top-republican/">railed against the program</a>&nbsp;in interviews with The Independent, claiming the Public Service Commission wanted Missouri residents to ration their energy to compensate for the switch to green energy and threatening to take legislative action if the commission didn’t reverse course.&nbsp;“If the commission decides to reverse course based on this campaign of generating anger through social media posting,” Renew Missouri said in its filing, “no commission decision will be safe from political meddling.”Evergy is still asking the Public Service Commission to change the default time-of-use pricing plan from its “Standard Peak Saver,” which nearly quadruples the price of energy on summer afternoons, to the “Peak Reward Saver,” which has a much smaller price increase at that times and a discount for power used between midnight and 6 a.m.

The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the foot. He was treated and released
from the hospital.

Shooting on St. Joseph's northside leaves man wounded

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect after an incident in Atchison.

On Monday, police arrested 44-year-old&nbsp; Kenneth E. West of Atchison, on requested charges of domestic battery and criminal damage to property, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

He remains in custody on a $3500 bond, according to online jail records.

BUCHANAN COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before 7a.m. Tuesday in Buchanan County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Ford F250 driven by D. B. Carroll, 28, St. Joseph, was southbound on Interstate 29 one mile south of Faucett.&nbsp;

The pickup rear-ended a 2022 Ram 3500 driven by Koba Barabadze, 58, Brooklyn, New York, that was on the shoulder and returned to the road.
