Warmer temperatures through the weekend

By BRENT MARTIN St. Joseph Post If you thought it was abnormally cold this morning, you were right. “This is a record cold day for St. Joe,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Spenser Mell tells St. Joseph Post. “The record low was eight in 1986. We actually hit six this morning at Rosecrans (Memorial) Airport. So, we did break the record by two degrees.” Mell, who works in the Pleasant Hill office, says it will remain very cold today and tonight before beginning to warm up, a little. Mell confirms just what you thought:&nbsp;this is too early for it to be this cold and for it to snow. “This is rather early in the season to see these low of temperatures,” Mell says. “We had a very strong Canadian area of high pressure come down which brought in some very cold air. Plus, with the snow on the ground, that also helped to keep those temperatures very cold overnight and this was also early for snow. So, that helped to bring these record cold temperatures to the area.” It will remain cold today, with a high expected to reach only 27. The low tonight will likely drop to 20. The National Weather Service forecasts highs Wednesday and Thursday just above 40 with the lows at around 24 before it warms up, back to around normal Friday and Saturday. “The normal high for today is 55 at St. Joe. The normal low is 33,” Mell says. “So, we’re talking almost 30 degrees below normal for the date.” It will get a bit warming tomorrow and Thursday before returning to near normal temperatures this weekend. The high Friday is expected to reach 52 with the high Saturday and Sunday forecast to be 53 degrees.

Bitter cold sweeps into area, sets record low in St. Joe

Expect a bit of a warm up for at least Saturday before the next cold front comes in Sunday night. There's an outside chance Sunday could bring some pleasant conditions, especially along and south of I-70. After the cold air arrives on Sunday night there will be a chance for some minor snow accumulations Monday. has reopened, once again.<o:p></o:p> Missouri
Department of Transportation officials report U.S. Route 159 from Route 111 at
Big Lake across the Missouri River to Rulo, Nebraska has reopened after
floodwaters had closed it a second time.<o:p></o:p> Work to replace
the Little Tarkio Creek Bridge at Fortescue on U.S. Route 159 will likely not
be completed until spring.<o:p></o:p> Now, both vital
links between northwest Missouri and southeast Nebraska have reopened after
being closed for much of the year due to the widespread and recurring flooding.
Highway 136 to the north of U.S. Route 159 reopened about two weeks ago,
reopening the route to Brownville, Nebraska cut off since March 15th.<o:p></o:p> MoDOT completed a
work-around of the heavily flood damaged Little Tarkio Creek Bridge in
September only to see floodwaters rise again, overflow the Big Lake area, and again
shut down the route being reopened for only 16 days.<o:p></o:p> MoDOT Thursday reopened
Route 111, Lake Shore Drive, along Big Lake between U.S. Route 159 and Route
118. March floods closed both routes. Contractor Phillips Hardy worked with
MoDOT to complete extensive repairs to both routes in late April.<o:p></o:p> When flooding receded
earlier this week, crews returned to U.S. Route 159 to complete shoulder and
roadway repairs. Crews removed debris and made small repairs to Route 111 when
floodwaters receded two days ago.<o:p></o:p>

Route to Rulo reopens, again
