Linda Paulette Hartley, age 72, of Troy, formerly of Severance, passed away at home November 12, 2021, with her fiancé Joe and daughter Mindy due to complications from COPD.

Linda was born April 19, 1949, in Seattle, Washington, and was blessed to have three children:&nbsp; Melissa, Mindy, and Gary.&nbsp; She loved music, singing, movies, crocheting and doing crafts.

She was active on the city council for Severance, KS a few years.&nbsp; She also worked for NEK CAP and Highland Healthcare as a housekeeper for a short time.

Linda is survived by her three children, her fiancé, eight grandchildren fifteen great-grandchildren and two brothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and three brothers.

Memorial services are planned for 11 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2021, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, with Chaplin Tim Champ of Freedom Hospice officiating.

The family will meet with friends one hour prior to service.

Jean Insco died peacefully at her home of natural causes on November 13th, 2021. She was 91. She was born Jean Ann Jackson on December 17th, 1929. She was a child of the Great Depression.

She graduated in 1948 from Lafayette high school and attended St. Joseph Junior College for two years. She married JC Insco, the love of her life who became her best friend, in 1948. They were married for 45 years until his death in 1993.

Jean was an avid reader who loved crosswords and other word puzzles. She was an excellent picker at garage sales. She had many friends.

She was a strong woman of faith who loved the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her brother John (1963), her mother Anna, nee Nelson (1967) her father John (1970), her son Stephen (1995), and her daughter-in-law Christi (1995).

She is survived by her children, Michael, Tim (Terry), Jeff (Sandy) all of St. Joseph, and Joan Insco of Platte County.

Grandchildren are Megan Insco (Ben Karlin) of Brookline, MA, Matt Insco (Dietlinde Heilmayr) of Bethlehem, PA, Travis Insco (Anna) of Lee's Summit, MO, Jason Insco (Lia) of Agency, MO, Justin Insco of Gower, MO, Taylor Wolfe of St. Joseph, MO, Sarah Insco (Zachery Clements) of Colorado Springs, CO, Amy Insco of Kansas City, MO and Meredith 'Mimi' Insco of Staunton, VA.

Great Grandchildren are Avery Wolfe of St. Joseph, MO, Ezra and Elias Karlin of Brookline, MA, Layne and Catherine Insco of Agency, MO.

She was loved and cherished by her family and friends.

Per her request, there will be no funeral or visitation. There will be a private family gathering at a later date.

William "Bill" C. France, 75, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully, November 12, 2021 after a long battle with illness. 

Bill was born November 22, 1945 in Leon, Iowa then moved to St. Joseph during his childhood and called it home for the remainder of his life. Bill graduated Benton High School in 1963, earned a Liberal Arts Degree from Missouri Western State Jr. College in St. Joseph in 1966 and received a BA in Business Management from Memphis State University in Memphis TN in 1970. He was an avid tennis, racket ball, and fast pitch softball player. Bill’s professional life saw him manage a Best Western Seville Motor Inn on Frederick Ave and he worked for the city of St. Joseph over 27 years, becoming the Director of Civil Facilities &amp; Assistant Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. 

Bill is preceded in death by his parents Rip &amp; Muriel France. 

He is survived by his sister Linda Adams of St. Joseph, daughter Nicole Wagers (Kevin) of St. Joseph, sons William France Jr. (Stephanie) US. Army Reserve of St. Louis MO, Brian France (Julienne) US. Navy stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, WA, two nephews Todd France (Michelle) and Thad Hurd and seven grandchildren. 

Mr. France has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. Per his wishes, no services are scheduled. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project.

William "Bill" C. France  1945 - 2021

Bernard Michael Ruddy, 91 of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Delmar Gardens Retirement Community in Lenexa, KS.

He was born December 5, 1929, in Troy, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the son of the late Margaret and James L Ruddy.&nbsp; Bernard graduated from Moray Grade School and Troy High School.

Bernard served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954.&nbsp; He worked his entire adult life in the cattle business. First, with Producers and then for IBP until his retirement in 1996.

He married Marilyn Elizabeth Patton on September 10, 1955, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Bernard was preceded in death by his infant son Michael (deceased), parents, and brother James (Jimmie).

Survivors include: wife, Marilyn Elizabeth Ruddy of the home; daughter Rhonda and husband Duane Clark of Lenexa, KS; daughter Mary Beth and husband Phil Sanders of Arvada, CO: daughter Theresa Harte of Weatherby Lake, MO; son John Ruddy and wife Machele of Independence, MO; son Jim Ruddy and wife Chrissy of Jacksonville Beach, FL; daughter Julie and husband Todd Siebert of Independence, MO; grandchildren: Ben (Ashley) Clark; Kelsey (Andrew) Riehemann; Philip (Emily) Sanders; Tim Sanders; Kathryn Ruddy, Thomas Ruddy; Reagan Siebert, Carson Siebert; eight great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernard was active in the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Road to Recovery, and he continually volunteered for various church activities at Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in St. Joseph; Father Christian, Celebrant.&nbsp; The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM prior to the Mass.

The interment will follow the Mass at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Gordon D. Holtsclaw, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021.

He was born December 3, 1929 in St. Joseph to Ernest and Mildred (Gage) Holtsclaw.

Gordon married Barbara J. Rowlett on August 27, 2000. She survives of the home.

He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Later, he earned his pilot’s license. He loved to fly.

Gordon owned and operated an appliance repair shop for many years. He also was a longtime member and elder of the Abundant Life Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gary Lee Holtsclaw; son, Robin G. Holtsclaw; and niece, Jill A. Spangler.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; foster son, Billy Huff; stepdaughter, Vicky Ann Popp; sister, Ernestine Elardo; numerous cousins; niece, Becky Holtsclaw; and nephews, Rick Holtsclaw and Jay Elardo.

Bonita Grace Pryor, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Savannah, Missouri passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021.

On April 20, 1935 she was born to Murlen and Edna (Edwards) Bauman in Rosendale, Missouri.

She married Bob Pryor on January 17, 1953. He survives of the home. Bonita owned and operated with her husband, Bob &amp; Bonnie’s Café and Bob’s Phillips 66. She later worked as a switchboard operator for GTE. Following that, she started her job in the mailroom at Tootle-Enright National Bank, which later became American National Bank. She eventually retired after 40 years as Vice President in charge of retail operations. Following her retirement she worked at First Mid-America Investment.

Bonita was a member of the Word of Life Church and attended faithfully until her health failed. Bonita was a wonderful cook and hostess and you never turned down an invitation to Sunday dinner. She enjoyed spending time at their lake home, where they made life-long friends. Boating and water activities were always a favorite. She enjoyed luncheons with her retired bank girls, as well as playing Bridge, Pitch, and a mean game of Monopoly with her great-grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Berniece Eckles.

Survivors include her husband; children, Terry “T” Pryor (Susan), Tracy Saverino (Todd); granddaughter, Morgan Schnurr (Michael); great-grandchildren, Hadley and Charlie Schnurr; brother, Leonard Bauman; step-granddaughter, Jessie Mead; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She enjoyed watching crime shows and mowed her grass up until the age of 91.

She trained horses and was a competitive barrel racer into her mid-forties. Margaret took great pride in driving a semi-truck for the past 37 years, which she continued until her final days. She was an avid fan of KU Jayhawks basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football fan. Margaret enjoyed designing, building, crafting, and remolding projects. She was very handy with tools. Survivors include two daughters, Ann Hutchinson, Atchison, KS, Cory and Ed Cardona, Lake Placid, FL, two sons, Brian and Avelyn Green, Peyton, CO, Ted and Shayla Harvey, Ottawa, KS, a brother, Richard and Laura Yelton Handke, Boise ID and a sister, Teddy Jean and Ivan Berends, Hailey, ID, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Shannon DeWayne Chance, 47, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021.

He was born June 20, 1974, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Donald and Sherry (Weigler) Chance.

She was born September 1, 1977, in St. Joseph, Missouri to John and Linda (Newman) Schmidt.

Tate graduated from Savannah High School in 1996.

She was a true believer in Jesus Christ. Tate has been a CNA since she was 18 years old and finally got her dream job as a traveling CNA in 2021. Tate enjoyed getting her hair, nails and pedicures done and giving her grandbabies, who by the way called her “Stinky”, kisses with her red lipstick. She was a talker and loved talking to others and had a love for life.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Lester and Margaret Ashlock, Robert Newman, John and Kathryn Schmidt; cousins, Jason Schmidt and Leslie Winters.

Cleta Mae Gillip, 89, King City, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021.

She was born December 22, 1931 in King City to Norman and Bertha (Finch) Brooke. She graduated from King City High School and attended Platt College.

Cleta married Junior Gillip. They later divorced.

She worked as an EMT for King City Ambulance and also worked on the family dairy farm.

Cleta’s biggest accomplishments were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very giving person, always helping others. She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Ricky Gillip. Survivors include children, Vicky Owens, Gregory Gillip (Johnnie Sue), and Teddy Gillip (Rhonda); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard Douglas “Doug” Frank, 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021.

He was born December 21, 1942 in St. Joseph to Malcolm and Nyda (Snyder) Frank. He graduated in 1960 from King City High School, then attended Northwest Missouri State University and graduated from Gard Business School.

Doug married Anne Switzer on October 5, 1968. She survives of the home. He served in the Air National Guard for 34 years, retiring as Chief Master Sergeant. He had many deployments, including Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. He later served for 12 years as a court advocate for the YWCA Women’s Shelter.

Doug enjoyed farming and yard work, and was an avid runner. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Anne; children, Tracy Zook (Richard), and Michael Frank; grandchildren, Kayla Zook, Michael Zook, and Bella Toth-Frank; siblings, Elizabeth Ann O’Hara (Terry), and Thomas Frank (Bella); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Diane was a devoted Christian woman that gave everything to her husband, children and grandchildren.

She had the privilege to travel everywhere with her husband. She spent most of her free time gardening, playing tennis, cleaning around the house, and cooking for everyone, of course.

Diane was a ray of light that lit up every room she walked into. She was friends with every single person she met and there wasn’t one person that went unfed or unattended. She will be very missed by everyone that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Daniel Doolan; sister, Mary Ann Gawatz.

Bridget Mary Pritchett, 58, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at her home in St. Joseph. 

She was born January 25, 1963 in St. Joseph, daughter of Barbara and Wesley Babcock. She graduated from Benton High School, class of 1981 and attended Missouri Western State College and Platt College. She married Dale Pritchett on November 17, 1984. Bridget worked for Buchanan County, most recently as the Chief Deputy Collector. She enjoyed fishing, spending time with her family and grandkids and time at the lake. 

Bridget was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jay Babcock. 

Survivors include, her husband, Dale Pritchett of the home, sons, Michael (Brooke) Pritchett and Marcus (Caitlin) Pritchett of St. Joseph, sisters, Anne (Terry) Schurman of Olathe, KS, and Sarah (Jack) Conaway of St. Joseph, brothers, Mark (Gayle) Babcock of St. Joseph and Charlie (Delaina) Babcock of Lincoln, MO and her two grandchildren, Maverick and Addisyn Pritchett.

He graduated from Bishop LeBlond High School in 1994 and later attended KU.

He enjoyed cooking, hunting, singing, listening to all genres of music, dogs and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; nephew, Gerrit Brinkman; maternal and paternal grandparents; and four uncles.

Survivors include his mother; sisters, Michelle Brinkman (Marty), Laura Lake; nephews, Blade Lake, Ryker Brinkman; niece, Lauradee Brinkman; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and extended family.

Leon A. Edrington 1976 - 2021

Mary Lou (Voltz) Hartnett, age 87, of St. Joseph, passed away on Monday, November 8th.&nbsp; She was the second child born to John Anthony Voltz and Johanna Loretta Curtin on September 18, 1934.

Mary Lou was raised on Parker St. and attended St. Mary’s Grade School.&nbsp; She was a 1952 high school graduate of Sacred Heart Convent.&nbsp; She earned her nursing degree in 1957 from the St. Joseph School of Nursing.&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Leo C. Hartnett on January 18, 1958.&nbsp;&nbsp; They were the parents of three children, Cathy, Karen (Rick) and Kelly.&nbsp;

Mary Lou worked as head nurse at Headrick Medical Center in Chillicothe for many years.&nbsp; A dedicated nurse, she was known as an excellent IV starter and remains ‘Mother Hartnett’ to many of the nursing staff she trained.

Mary Lou was a faithful Roman Catholic.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Mary’s and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parishes in St. Joe and St. Columban’s Church in Chillicothe.&nbsp; She lived out her faith by praying the rosary and attending daily mass.&nbsp; She also enjoyed volunteering at church and at Bishop Hogan Memorial School in Chillicothe.&nbsp; She volunteered and cooked for many funeral dinners in both parishes.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Ann’s Alter Society.

If a successful life is measured by the number of friends, then hers was truly a success.&nbsp; We are grateful for those friendships as they touched our lives as well.

Mary Lou is survived by her loving children, son-in-law Richard Kuhle, granddaughter Madison Kuhle, both of Lawrence, KS, sister Patty Harvey, St. Joseph, Mo, brothers John Voltz (Linda) of Ozark, MO and Jim Voltz (Peggy) of St. Joseph, Mo.&nbsp; Nieces Jodie (Greg) Manahan of Platte City and Christina Lund of St. Joseph.&nbsp; Nephews Michael Voltz (Amy) of St. Joseph and David Voltz (Amy) of Samobor, Croatia, great nieces Emma (Garrett) Dyer, Mia Lund and Harper Voltz.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sister Dorothy Wertin, brother-in-law Delbert Harvey and her nephew Brian Voltz.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday November&nbsp; 13th at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Inurnment at Mount Olivet Cemetery in St. Joseph will follow the mass.&nbsp; There will be a meal following for family and friends at the church.&nbsp;

Visitation will be at Heaton Bowman &amp;&nbsp; Sidenfaden Chapel&nbsp; on Friday from 2:00 - 4:00 PM followed by a Parish Rosary at 4:00 PM.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Fredie Marcus Allen reunited with his mother and father November 5, 2021.

He was born March 22, 1993, to Donnell Allen, Sr. and Sirita Carter in Richmond, California.

He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Valerie Allen.

Fred’s greatest loves were his children, nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Everyone else came in a distant second.&nbsp; He was one of the two adult children in the house that could be found engaged in an outrageous Nerf war or “fighting” with the children.

His infectious smile and fun loving character made it easy to enjoy time spent with family and friends.&nbsp; He was a kind, caring soul who was fiercely loyal to those he loved.&nbsp; He had the refreshing ability to say exactly what he thought and his family appreciated that quality.

On November 24, 2020, he was born to Gabriel R. Stewart, Sr. and Mary Lee in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Born prematurely, Gabriel was a fierce fighter.

Gabriel was always a happy and energetic child. His smile could light up a room.

With the deepest sorrow, we announce the disease of addiction&nbsp; stole Walker Bradley Johnston's life on November 8, 2021.

Walker loved to play his X-Box, he loved to banter with family and friends and enjoyed driving around feeling the freedom of no destination.

Walker never wanted to be defined by his addiction and mistakes.&nbsp; He was a kind hearted, feisty, intelligent, and outspoken young man.

Walker could light up any room with his smile, laughter, and humor to all people, while he silently and privately suffered deep inside the darkness.

Walker will continue to stay with us through twenty one years of memories.&nbsp; When a raspberry cheesecake candle burn, please remember that smell like home to him.&nbsp; When you root for the Chiefs, remember he thinks they suck.&nbsp; When you see a homeless animal remember he would try to give them a home.&nbsp; Remember his big beautiful blue eyes staring at you intensely when you spoke to him.

Walker's family and friends have been deeply devastated by his passing.&nbsp; We will see him everywhere.&nbsp; He has left the pain, but has left us all.&nbsp; Those who know Walker, even a little, have lost a shining light in their lives.

John “Milt” Berger, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021.

He was born February 24, 1937, in St. Joseph, Missouri and adopted by Ernie and Irene (Moore) Berger.

Milt married Sharon Kay Lewis November 16, 1962. She survives of the home.

He was a member of McCarthy Baptist Church. Milt worked for 26 years on the kill floor for Dugdale Packing Company and 18 years for the St. Joseph School District Maintenance Department.

Milt was an avid fisherman and bowler being inducted into the St. Joseph Men’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2003.

He was preceded in death by his son, Milton Wayne; parents; brothers, Marvin Reid, Jr. and Bud Van Arb.

Additional survivors include children, Vicky Seek (Jim), Scott Berger (Richard), Deanna Ezzell (Jason); grandchildren, Dawn Yates, Shawn Springer, Jared and Caleb Ezzell; 4 great-grandchildren.

Etta Sue Kennen, 75, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021.

Etta Sue Kennen, 75, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021. On July 7, 1946 she was born to Leonard and Ethel (Palmer) Kennen in Kansas City, Missouri. Etta was a life-long devout Catholic. She was a happy, smiling soul that made friends everywhere she went. Even as her health failed, caregivers always recognized her genuinely sweet, kind ways. Etta enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and cooking. She and her sister were especially close and known as “two peas in a pod.” She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Sherry Odom and William “Bill” Kennen; great-nephew, Michael Owen. Survivors include two nephews; four nieces; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and extended family. Natural Farewell under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory.
