Elmore Jr Ackley 1937 - 2022

Elmore “Sonny” Ackley, 85, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Restwell Assisted Living in Oskaloosa.

He was born on March 27, 1937 in Pueblo, Colorado the son of Elmore and Sylvia Teske Ackley.  He graduated from Wamego High School in 1955 and attended Kansas State University, where he studied mechanical engineering.

Sonny had several occupations.  He owned and operated Ackley Plumbing in Onaga and later, Ackley Farm Service in Topeka.  He helped in the development of the Lake Sherwood area and had owned Globe Construction Company.  His last job before retiring was as a construction supervisor for Holiday Inn Management in Kansas City.

He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka.  He had his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying.

He married Mary Alice DuLac on April 4, 1959 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Onaga.  She survives, of the home.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Betty Lee Smith and Darlene Ackley, and a grandson, Russell Ackley.

Other survivors include two sons, Joseph H. Ackley (Randy), Topeka and Anthony Keith Ackley (Lori), Wellsville; two daughters, Theresa A.M. Rose (Alan), Ozawkie and Mary J. Ackley (Peggy), Berryton; two brothers, Herman Ackley, Quad Cities, IL and Jimmy Dean Ackley, in Kentucky; a sister, Ruthella Tabler, Salina;six grandchildren, Ross (Kenzie) and Reid Ackley, Cody Gail Ackley, and Dorothy, Brian (Leah) and Luke Beatty, and two great grandchildren, Alice and Karsten Henry.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 2nd at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in the Coal Creek Community. Sonny will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga.
