James M. “Jim” Archdekin, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022.

On November 25, 1930 he was born to James L. and Rose V. (Nold) Archdekin in Industrial City, Missouri.

In 1948 he joined the Navy. He completed three tours of Korean War duty on the USS Valley Forge, the first aircraft carrier to launch planes towards North Korea. After returning home, he married Clara Lee Schneider on September 11, 1954. Sixty-eight years later, they have three children. From the age of 12, Jim began his life-long career of repairing mechanical things. His ability to fix most mechanisms was innate and he used those skills in the Navy and at his businesses Eastside Auto and Bill &amp; Jim’s Service, which he operated until retirement. Jim enjoyed gardening, fishing, going to the farm and Lake of the Ozarks.

He loved all the events associated with a large, close family. His children and family have so many fond memories of the family adventures, pranks and always – laughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Janet Lee Archdekin; sister, Carol Yoder; brother, Ray Archdekin.

He is survived by his wife; children, Ron Archdekin (Nancy), Diane Gagnon (Gary), Carol Harris (Tony); grandchildren, Karen Kloepping (Wade), Laura Gagnon; great-grandsons, Jim and Luke Kloepping; bonus grandchildren, Amie Shaw, Sarah Baur; six bonus great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Pasley (Lloyd), and Elaine O’Banion; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family will gather with friends 1-3 pm Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory Community Room. Inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

He worked as a mechanic in the maintenance department for Rockwell International, Atchison for over 20 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion, and the Steelworkers Union. Billy loved to do gardening, wood working making crafts, carpentry, and playing Sudoku. He was married to Eleanor Shoebrook on Aug. 5, 1948. She preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 2014. Survivors include a daughter Ruby M. (Bob) Huhn, Oklahoma City, OK, two granddaughters Melinda (Eric) Conley, and Stephanie Lambert, and four great grandchildren C.J, Chance, Tyler, and Savannah. Jean Marie Ward, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022.

On May 18, 1932 she was born to Joseph and Marie (Jensen) Kirkman in Clinton, Iowa.

Jean married Robert Lee Ward on June 4, 1954. He precedes her in death. She graduated from Ottawa University in 1954 with a degree in English and Speech. She was a member of Zeta Pi Omega.

Jean was a Speech Therapist in the Olathe School District then a Girl Scouts of America Field Executive for 30 years. She enjoyed reading, crafting, reading, cooking, reading, travel, reading, all things Christmas, reading, grandchildren, and of course, reading. Jean was involved with the Rolling Hill Library book store; Altrusa International; Girl Scouts; Lioness Auxiliary; Sweet Adelines; Adult continuing education – ESOL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Joe, Mildred, Margaret, Robert, Jane, David, Burton, Phillip; niece, Ruth; daughter-in-law, Jodie.

She is survived by her son, Doug Ward (Linda); daughters, Debra Vesel and Dana Bruns (Joel); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; best friends, co-conspirators, and colleagues, Sylvia Fenn and her loving family, and Barb Braxdale; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean left a legacy of joy in life – simple, pure, and unadorned. She came from a family who believed in service to others as a staple of life, and the abilities of individuals are ever to be expected, supported, and humbly celebrated. Jean demonstrated her beliefs without fanfare, her acceptance of others without reservation, her commitment to a broad definition of family to all who found themselves in her home.

Colleen Lynn Reynolds, 69, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022.

On July 15, 1952 she was born in Independence, Missouri to Lee and Agnes (LaFave) Reynolds.

Colleen married Robert Harold Thomas in 1993.

She and her sister, Sherry co-owned Modern Cleaners. She worked in dry cleaning her entire life most recently as a manager at East Hills Cleaners. Colleen was a member of the Family Worship Center. She enjoyed horseback riding, being outdoors, hiking, and spending time with her twin sister.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Robert Thomas, Jr.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Amber Fleming (Curtis), and Holly Robertson (Gene); sons, John Thomas (Michelle), and Mark Thomas; grandchildren, Lexi, Tristin, Micah, Colin, Rainy, River, Sky, Storm, Andrea, Laura, John Jr., Taylor, Mark Jr., Taya; many great grandchildren; twin sister, Sherry Rock; nephews, Brandon and Garrett Rock; extended family and friends.

Wathena, Kansas&nbsp;&nbsp; Linda Louise Liechti, 73, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Linda was born on September 9, 1948 in Highland, Kansas to Don and Mary (Simmons) Liechti.

As a child, Linda contracted Polio from a live virus vaccine. As she grew and the disease progressed, she valiantly accepted the challenges. She always made the most of her life with a courageous spirit and bright smile.

Linda began her working career early as a babysitter for extended family. She then worked at Doniphan County Sheltered Workshop as a consumer from 1984 – 2013 (29yrs). In 2013 she moved to Atchison, Kansas to live and work at N.E. Achievement Services, retiring in April 2021. Linda never missed a day of work unless she was ill. She loved her job and the people she worked with. Many were like extended family to her. She spent this last year at Wathena Rehab and Healthcare to be closer to family.

Linda was a Christian and a member of the Word of Life Church and had a great love for her Lord and Savior. Her beautiful spirit was a testament of that love.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

David Wayne Kariker, 71, Union Star, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

He was born January 7, 1951 in New Hampton, Missouri to Eldon and Alice (Woodside) Kariker.

David married Vicki Salas Pike on June 22, 2012. She survives of the home.

David was a skilled craftsman and builder, working construction as a job superintendent in Tucson, AZ. He also served as a radio announcer, which he greatly enjoyed. He eventually returned to Missouri to start his own custom cabinetry business, which he ran for many years. He was a member of the St. Joseph Community Chorus and served as mayor of Union Star for eight years. David loved his Harley and his Corvettes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Lee Kariker.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki; son, William Kariker (Devon); daughter, Mary Kariker; stepsons, Jay D. Pike (Kimberly) and Casey Pike; 11 grandchildren; sister, Eldonna Fischer (Tom); aunt, Margie Warner; and his sidekick, Bruiser, the cat.

He was born March 27, 1987 in Rolla, Missouri to Sherman Hall, Jr. and Tina Hall. He was a graduate of Salem (MO) High School and took online college courses in video game development. He formerly worked at the Briggs &amp; Stratton factory in Rolla. Justin loved playing video games, especially anything Marvel.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jaidyn Hall; grandfather, George Hance; grandmother, Elta Hall; and his beloved dog, Lacie.

He is survived by his mother, Tina Hall (Dustin DeSpain); father, Sherman Hall, Jr.; brother, Josh Hall (Megan Howard-Hall); sister, Krystal Hall-Hatley (Shawn Hatley); grandmother, Erma Hance; grandfather, Sherman Hall, Sr.; uncle, Rockie Hance; and aunt, Nena McCain.

Robert was born on July 2, 1935 in Sparks, Kansas to Safford and Ruby L. (Turpin) Guy.

He was a member of the U.S. Army and of the Christian faith. He worked for Affiliated Foods for 39 years. Bob and his wife Rose Anna owned and operated businesses in Troy, including Troy Drive Inn and Guy’s Pizza. Bob loved to travel and was very proud of making his adventure to all fifty states. He was an avid K-State fan.

Bob married Rose Anna Smith on October 5, 1957 in Hopkins, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, Edwin Guy, sister, Anna Louise Duncan and son-in-law, Jerry Dugan.

Survivors, his children, Debbie Dugan, Aransas Pass, Texas. Pam Klaus (John), St. Joseph, Missouri. David Guy (Linda), Fanning, Kansas. Michael Guy (Robbin), Cortland, Illinois.

Ronald J. Whitlock, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 28 2022.

He was born March 2, 1940 near Cosby, Missouri to James and Alzina (Bowen) Whitlock. He was a 1958 graduate of Savannah High School. Ronald married Jocelyn Rolls on September 19, 1959. She survives of the home.

He had worked at Ross Frazier Supply, Fastenal, and Sara Lee Bakery Outlet. Ronald was a longtime member of McCarthy Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and facilities manager in his retirement years. He also was a member of the Brotherhood Lodge. He took up quilting late in life, after asking his wife what he could do to stay busy. He made beautiful quilts for the family. Ronald was ornery and liked to joke around, but also loved his family dearly and loved spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jocelyn; children, Ronda Chesney and Timothy Whitlock (Debi); grandchildren, Colynn Chesney (fiancé, Skyler Jones), and Kyndal Newman (Daniel); great-grandchildren, JadeLynn, Shayn, Samson, and Watson; brother, Glen Whitlock; and niece, Teri Eslick (Derek).

She was born January 6, 1954 in St. Joseph to Arthur and Marion (Mozee) McGaughy.

Mary married Larry Dean Rowland on April 14, 1974. He survives of the home.

She worked at the Noyes Home for Children for 10 years and at Mosaic Life Care for 15 years. She was a longtime member of St. Francis Baptist Temple. Mary liked to cook and everyone loved her barbecue. She was a loving grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Marion McGaughy; and her brother, Babe McGaughy.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Larry; sons, Larry Rowland, Jr. (Michelle) and Johnny McGaughy (Faith); siblings, Earlene Cook, Arthur McGaughy (Sherry), Todda McGaughy (Cheryle), Ronald McGaughy (Mary), Betty Lou Bey (Donald), and Roger McGaughy (Debbie); grandchildren, Kheana, Kizzi, Johnny II, Mackenzie, Kamryn, Atreitezz, Asantie, Daisy, Sophia, Shelby, and Gavin; and seven great-grandchildren.

L. Sherman Wilkinson, Jr., 81, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

On August 18, 1940 he was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to M. Maxine (Lucas) and Linville Sherman Wilkinson, Sr.

He retired after nearly 20 years as a mechanic for the St. Joseph Police Department. As the first Elder of the church, he was a member of the Emanual Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was also a Pathfinder Leader. Sherman was an avid cyclist, completing the MS 150 many times. He loved to camp and hike. He was also a skilled bowler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Vernal (Simpson) Wilkinson; second wife, Marie A. (Childs) Wilkinson; daughter, M. Maxine Besch; grandson, Linville Sherman IV; sister, Barbara Taylor Burgess; beloved dog, Samson.

She married Robert “Bob” Preston Grace, Sr. on November 12, 1994. He precedes her in death.

Linda worked for many years at the prison, retiring as a Substance Abuse Counselor. She was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 36 years. Linda enjoyed working. She never stopped. She was in constant motion taking care of those she loved. She enjoyed cooking, especially Sunday dinners and holiday meals for friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandsons, Trevor Roller and Preston Grace; granddaughter, Nicole Wells; siblings, Eugene Payne and Phyllis.

Carol Harris, 75 of Atchison, KS, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.

There will be a family graveside service on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 10:00 am at Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS, with Rev. Stephen Lucas officiating. Following the service there will be a lunch provided for all family and friends at Atchison Faith Bible Fellowship Church at 12:00 noon. Carol was born December 16, 1946, in New York City, New York, the daughter of George and Hazel (Hurst) Colouris. Carol grew up in California where she met and married the love of her life Kenneth Harris. 

Shortly after they married, they moved to his hometown, Atchison, KS, where they raised their family. Carol worked for 47 years at Saunders Mop Factoring later renamed Golden Star. Kenneth and Carol loved to go dancing and playing cards with friends and family every Saturday until Kenneth’s passing in April 1999.

Survivors include her five children daughters Wendy Harris, Terry (David) Trimble, Tracy (Ron)Wenger, Kena (Tony) Ramirez and a son Kenneth Harris II, her brother George (Pam) Colouris, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and a great great grandson. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Harris, and her parents.

On June 24, 1944 she was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Ray and Betty (Roach) Chambers. Later, she married Harold N. James. He precedes her in death.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Northwest Missouri State University. Linda was a dedicated school teacher. She began teaching science and history at Horace Mann, then devoting a majority of her 30+ years in education at Spring Garden Middle School. She was a lifetime member of National Education Association. She was formerly a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church, more recently attending Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe. Linda was an avid life-long reader. She loved baking and crafting, ceramics, counted cross-stitch and tole painting. She will be lovingly remembered as a favorite host for monthly family gatherings. Over the years, Linda enjoyed having pets, cats being her favorite.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Ryan Myers.

She is survived by daughter, Stacy Rezek (Tony); and grandchildren, Evan and Quin Rezek, Owen Myers; brother, Jerry Chambers (Jackie); extended family and friends.

&nbsp;Kevin Lee Tull, 49, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022.

He was born on April 27, 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri to Everett and Nancy (Lang) Tull. Kevin enjoyed mowing and working on cars and lawnmowers. He liked to stay busy and walked nearly everywhere he needed to go.

He was preceded in death by his father; and siblings, Gary and Elsie Tull.

Anna Marie (Salmen) Doss, St. Joseph, formerly of Savannah, Mo., died Saturday, April 23, at a St. Joseph health-care center.

She was born August 18, 1923, in Grafton, Neb., to George and Hulda (Zimbleman) Salmen, the youngest of six children.

The family moved to Fullerton, ND, the same year, where she grew up. After graduating high school, Anna graduated from secretarial school in Fargo, ND.

She married Mike Doss on January 21, 1946, in Oakes, ND. She worked as a school secretary for over 20 years at Amazonia, John Glenn, and Savannah Middle School, and later managed Savannah Estates. A long-time member of St. John’s Church, Amazonia, Anna was a member of Creative Circle, Senior Citizen’s Center, and Andrew County Ministries. Anna volunteered at Rolling Hills Library, and served on the Andrew County Ministries RSVP Advisory Board.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, and a great-grandson.

Donald proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked at Westab for 30 years, retiring at age 72. An eternal athlete and All-American at St. Joseph Junior College, Donald enjoyed golfing and swimming. He was an all-around good guy who loved to joke around but would help anyone in need at any time. He will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jeannette; and a great-grandson.

He is survived by 17 children; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Jacquelyn Belcher; and numerous extended family and friends.

Kai Boucher, 27, Surprise, Arizona, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022.

He was born February 12, 1995 in St. Joseph to Randall and Gail (Smith) Boucher. Kai was a 2012 graduate of Lafayette High School, where he was on the baseball team his freshman year. He also worked at Fazoli’s for two years during high school. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was an avid skateboarder. He was a friendly guy who never met a stranger and would give you his last dollar.

Kai was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Kelly was very active as a 4-H Leader, as a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Xi-Delta-Zigma Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a former member of the St. Joseph’s Altar Society, member of the St. Benedicts Parish, and enjoyed Geocaching, cruise ship traveling, trips with her sorority sisters, and loving and living life. Kelly was the organizer of just about anything asked by her kids and husband. She was married to Derek Franklin on June 29, 1984, at St. Joseph’s Church. Derek survives with their three children, Monica Franklin, Wichita, KS, Brent (Molly) Franklin and Grant (BriAnna) Franklin, both of Atchison, KS, a brother Mark (Stephanie) Hegarty, Cloverdale, CA and four sisters, Jane (Tim) Pickman, Susie Kinsey, Shelly (Bill) Andre, all of Atchison, KS, and Mary Jo (Jeff) Cole, Eagle River, AK, and three grandchildren Landon, Aleah, Derek.

Edwin Dennis Ford, 84, of Wathena, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at his home. Dennis was born on February 1, 1938, to E.B. and Marie (Ohl) Ford. He grew up in Doniphan, Kansas and attended Troy High School. His best friend in high school was Jack Ainlay and Jack’s younger sister, Carolyn Kay, would just happen to be hanging around whenever “Denny” was over. After high school, Dennis attended Highland Community College and was a member of the Air National Guard, later making his way to the University of Kansas. Upon returning to the area, he reconnected with Carolyn, and they were married on June 9, 1962, in Troy, Kansas.&nbsp;

Dennis began working at Bendena Grain Company in the early 60’s, moving to Wathena a few years later to manage Wathena Grain Company, while also farming part-time. He and Carolyn made their home in Wathena for over a half century, where he served his community as a member of the City Council in 1971-75, serving as president of the Council in 1973-1975. Although he preferred to farm over just about anything, his ability to do so diminished as his business responsibilities grew. He was a well-respected business owner in Doniphan County and among his peers throughout the State, having served on the Board of the Kansas Grain and Feed Association from 1989 into the latter part of the next decade. Dennis was also a pilot and loved everything about airplanes.&nbsp;

Dennis was a soft-spoken, compassionate man. He cared deeply for people, but always preferred to help quietly, behind the scenes. He rarely offered opinions or advice but when he did, we listened – he was very thoughtful and intuitive, never responding in reaction. Dennis was also a hard-working, faithful man. Working was something he considered an honor. He loved the land, he loved his family, and he loved his country. He never took the great fortune of living in the United States of America for granted.&nbsp;

Dennis was a wonderful husband and father and was beyond thrilled when his grandbabies started to arrive, which prompted him to slow down at work and spend more quality time at the Lake of the Ozarks. Lots of wonderful memories were made at the lake house, where he and Carolyn graciously hosted however many people could fit inside! It was a true blessing that his grandchildren grew up close by and were able to spend lots of quality time with him. This allowed them to learn by example what it means to be an honest and genuine soul.&nbsp;

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Bernadine (“Bernie”) and brothers-in-law Jack Masters, Loren Edge, and Jack Ainlay.&nbsp;

Dennis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn, his two daughters, Lisa Robertson (Charley) of St. Joseph and Angela Guinn (Rick) of Overland Park, Kansas, his six grandchildren, Meg, Jack, Sam, Laura, Ben and Matthew, his two sisters Florence Edge of Omaha, Nebraska and Kitty Nourie (Bob) of Doniphan, Kansas and many dear friends.&nbsp;
