Norman Dean Hardin Jr. 55, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 in Saint Joseph. He was born November 13, 1967 in St. Joseph, Missouri, son of Judy &amp; Norman Hardin Sr. 

He married Cindy Hardin on August 15, 1997, and she survives of the home. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, going to the casino, and spending time with his children and grandchildren at big family dinners. He was a member of Church of God in Savannah, MO. 

Norman was preceded in death by his father, Norman Dean Hardin Sr., sister, Rhonda Bisig, and brother, Mark Hardin. 

Survivors include: Wife, Cindy Hardin of the home, mother, Judy Hardin, Savannah, MO, six children: Daisy Slater, Alissa (Marc) Carson, Dustin (Natalie) Hardin, Cody Johnson, Patrick Hardin, and Mark Hardin, and 14 grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends from 1- 2:00 pm Tuesday with funeral services following at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home.

Judy Lee Myers 82, of Saint Joseph, MO, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 in a St. Joseph, MO hospital. She was born June 25, 1940 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Juanita and Frank Schussler. 

She graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart High School class of 1958, and the Platte Gard Business School. She married David Myers on June 4, 1960 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, he preceded her in death Sunday, December 11, 2022. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker, she enjoyed playing cards, games, cooking, sewing, flowers, and camping, but most especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a 82 year member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church. 

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David Lawrence "Larry" Myers, a great-grandson, Asher, and twin sister, Joyce Marie Schussler. 

Survivors include: daughter, Glory Colhour, son, Martin (Lisa) Myers both of St. Joseph, MO, daughter, Dawn (Kirk) Ketcham, Olathe, KS, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 6 nieces and nephews. 

The Rosary will be prayed Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home, the family will receive friends from 6:30- 7:30 PM on Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Joey Don-Dale Stevenson 33, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 in a St. Joseph, MO hospital. He was born October 8, 1989 in St. Joseph, MO, and graduated from Lafayette High School, then married Acacia Shifflett on November 1, 2014, and she survives of the home. 

He worked in the roofing contracting industry. Joey enjoyed watching sports and being involved in sports, coaching Missouri Youth basketball. He also enjoyed traveling, but most especially he loved his family and his children. He was a member of the Word of Life Church. 

Joey was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Harold Merritt, and aunt, Tina Tracy.

Doyle Helton, 83, Easton, Missouri, joined our Lord in Heaven on Friday, December 16, 2022.

He was born to Ernest and Martha Helton on September 26, 1939, in St. Joseph, Missouri.

On April 18, 1959, he married the love of his life, Beulah Dean Mabbitt. They lived in Saudi Arabia for 6 years working and making many friends. They were able to explore seven different countries on their travels.

Doyle was a corporal (E-3) in the United States Marine Corps. He was a 60 year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #45. Doyle was an avid gun collector and a great lover of all animals, big and small, and quite a prankster.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah Dean; son, Russell (Rhonda) Helton; daughter, Kathleen (Joe); daughter, Cindy; brother Richard (Betty); twelve grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be missed by many, including family, friends, co-workers, union brothers and fellow collectors.

Charles William “Charlie” Warren was born July 22, 1945, at Horton Community Hospital, one of two children born to the late Ivan Waldo and Margaret Eliza Howard Warren.&nbsp; He passed away Thursday evening, December 15, 2022, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.

The family lived on a farm near Hiawatha with Charlies attending Hiawatha Schools, graduating from Hiawatha High School with the class of 1963.

In May of 1967, he earned his bachelors’ degree in business at Washburn University in Topeka.&nbsp; He later attended and graduated from Washburn Law School with his Juris Doctorate degree.&nbsp; For the next year Charlies served on the staff of the Kansas Commission of Civil Rights.&nbsp; He was hired as a salesman for the next ten years for West Publishing Co, based out of St. Paul, MN, and sold law books to lawyers and judges, traveling all 105 counties in Kansas.&nbsp; The next ten years seen Charlie moved to Salt Lake City, with the same company. His territory increased to include:&nbsp; Utah, New Mexico, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and the western slope of Colorado.

The last two years of his career seen him being assigned to Washington, DC which he said proved to be interesting as he was able to be in building like the Pentagon that was not open to the general public.&nbsp;&nbsp; He return to Hiawatha in 1993 to care for his mother whose health was failing prior to her death in 2001.

Charles was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Hiawatha.&nbsp; He served on the committee that was instrumental in the new Church building being built.

Survivors include his sister Margery Ann McIntosh of Oroville, California and a host of other relatives.

A Celebration of Charles’ life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Hiawatha.&nbsp; Pastor James Callaway and Pastor Tom Stone will officiate.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Dorothy Delores LaFollette 91, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away December 15, 2022.

She was born on March 22, 1931, to Curtis Albert and Grace Louise (Hamilton) Ramsden in Fort Dodge, IA where she grew up. The family moved to Glendale, California and Dorothy graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale, California.&nbsp;

On April 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to Jerry Allen LaFollette. After their marriage they lived in Pullman, WA and in 1960 they moved to St. Joseph, where they made their home. Dr. Jerry passed away on June 15, 2006.&nbsp;

Dorothy worked for Franciscan Pottery in California. After raising her children, she owned and operated Central Station Mall in St. Joseph, MO. Dorothy had a passion for art and pursued it by taking art classes and creating numerous projects. She enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs. Most of all, Dorothy loved being a mom, grandma and great-grandma.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Jerry LaFollette; her parents Curtis and Grace Ramsden and her sisters.

Dorothy is survived by four children, David LaFollette and wife, Nancy, Darrell LaFollette, and wife Pat, Robin LaFollette, and Jesse LaFollette and wife, Joyce; eight grandchildren, Preston (Brittney), Cameron (Crystal), Evan, Stewart (Rebeka), Jackson (Michaela), Clayton, Janessa, and Jillian; nine great-grandchildren Benjamin, Emma Dorothy, Zoe, Tyson, Augie, Maclin, Lyrikah, Baylee, and Beau; other relatives and many friends.&nbsp;

He was born June 24, 1943 to John Siegel and Virginia Martha (Poage) Montgomery, in Smithville, MO. Gary grew up in Smithville and graduated from Smithville High School in 1961. He met the love of his life at Hallmark Cards and was united in marriage to Charlotte Fleming March 2, 1962. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City, MO and later made their home in Smithville, MO.&nbsp; He owned his own tire business C&amp;G Tire before his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Roger Dean and John Kenneth, three sisters Barbara Tommey, Carrol Cansler and Marlena Wulff.&nbsp;

He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, sister Dixie (Roger) Blake, son Richard Dean (Diana) Montgomery of Kansas City, MO, daughter Cynthia Jean (Guy) Carter of Independence, MO, grandchildren Linda Piemonte (Aaron), Elizabeth (Liz) Piemonte, Stephen (Danita) Brooke, Katherine Burr (Chris), Great grandchildren Gavin Brooke, Ryker Brooke, Makenzie and Hunter Brooke. Joyce Elaine Russell, 78, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2022, at the Gower Convalescent Center, Gower, Missouri.&nbsp;

Joyce was born on October 23, 1944, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Norman and Anna Mae Fern (McCoy) Merrriott.&nbsp;

Joyce married Larry Russell on August 22, 1964. They would later divorce. Together they had&nbsp;4 beautiful daughters; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He preceded her in death in 2009. She also was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lois Benkula and nephew, Jody Merriott.

Joyce had a passion for books and reading and made that her career.

She was the Librarian at Central High School and at Western Reception Diagnostic Center.&nbsp; Joyce was an extremely talented artist, including drawing, painting, and interior design. She received her Art Degree from St. Joseph Junior College. Joyce used her degree to complete various projects around St. Joe including The Missouri Theater, where she was an active member.&nbsp; Joyce helped design the Missouri Western Griffon logo (original) in the 1960’s. Joyce was a member of the Sweet Adeline International singing group for many years where she traveled around the world and made many lifelong friends.

Joyce was a Jehovah’s Witness for over 50 years and was very involved in her congregation. The family would like to thank the Kingdom Hall. The family of Joyce would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Gower Convalescent Center for taking such wonderful care of their mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. The family would also like to send well wishes to the Merriott family in Arizona.

Mia Marie Lopez, 1 month old, Savannah, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

She was born November 12, 2022 in Overland Park, Kansas to Carli Crabtree and Deven Lopez.

Mia is a ray of sunshine that lit up our life and those around her. She was celebrated from the very start by family and friends. Mia was very active, strong willed, and resilient. She was loved by all of the doctors and nurses - she was definitely a crowd favorite. Mia would always make a little gun with her fingers, so her nickname in the NICU and to some outside, was “little pistol.” She also had another nickname of “Popeye,” because she initially only had her left eye open and she would open it wide and look all around. Her favorite time was spending time with Mom and Dad getting her hand hugs, holding their fingers, and smiling at them. Mia could brighten up anyone’s day - especially when she would open her big brown eyes and look for Mom and Dad at the sounds of their voices.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandfathers, Carl McDaniel, Dennis Lopez and Raymond Larabee; great-great aunt, Louise Cross; and great-great uncle, Tony Crabtree.

Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Mark and Beth Crabtree, Dennis Lopez, and Christina Larabee; great-grandparents, Cheryl McDaniel, BJ and Vernon Crabtree, Marcia Larabee, Mike Mathis, and Karen Lopez; aunts and uncles, Anthony and Ashley Crabtree, Amber and Kyle Boyer, Cayne Crabtree, Jared and Paden Larabee, and Nick and Darien Bowman; numerous cousins.

David Ken Miller, 60, of Highland, KS died December 14, 2022 at Two Timbers Nursing Home in Highland, KS.

David was born February 13, 1962 in Atchison, KS the son of the late Clayton and Ruth Townsend Miller. He graduated from Atchison High School and worked various jobs during his life. David was instrumental in getting bringing the internet to Atchison. David was also an excellent taxidermist.

He is survived by bothers; Jim (Linda) Miller, Bob (Pat) Miller both of Atchison, KS, sisters; Kathryn (Luke) Connor of Salt Springs, FL, and Sue Rush of Highland, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.

Coach Jared Powers

Mary Ann Olson, 72, of Severance, died late Friday evening, December 9, 2022 at Wathena Healthcare and Rehabilitative Center where she had been a resident June. She also had been a patient at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph a few times as well.

Mary Ann was born at Huron, Kansas, September 22, 1950, one of three children born to the late Harvey and Marie Hornbeck Akright and had lived in Severance nearly all of her life.&nbsp; She attended Severance grade school prior to graduating from Midway High School. Mary Ann later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1972 from Benedictine College at Atchison.&nbsp;

She spent her working life as a librarian in elementary schools. After she retired, she substituted for area schools when needed.

Survivors include a brother Jim Akright of Atchison, a niece and nephew.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by a sister Virginia “Ginny” Lee in 2015.

Family and friends will gather at the Highland Community Building from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, for a time to remember and celebrate her life.

There will be a private family inurnment at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Troy.

Sharon Jones, 79 of Smithville, MO passed away December 14, 2022.

She was born on June 14, 1943, to Howard Allen and Alice Lucille (Moore) Taylor in Smithville, MO where she grew up and graduated from Smithville High School.

Sharon married Walter Jones. They lived in rural Smithville where they raised their three children and shared their home and heart with numerous foster children of which many remain family today.

She retired from Clay County Savings and Loan Bank in Smithville after over 30 years of service. Sharon was a member of the Kiwanis and loved serving her community. She loved to garden and raise chicken. Most of all Sharon loved being a Mom, Memaw and Mamaw.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Lucille Taylor; son-in-law David Hallin; sister Carol Lamb; and brother-in-law Roby Matthews.

Gary Wayne Montgomery, 79, of Kansas City, MO passed away, December 13, 2022.He was born June 24, 1943 to John Siegel and Virginia Martha (Poage) Montgomery, in Smithville, MO. Gary grew up in Smithville and graduated from Smithville High School in 1961. He met the love of his life at Hallmark Cards and was united in marriage to Charlotte Fleming March 2, 1962. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City, MO and later made their home in Smithville, MO.&nbsp; He owned his own tire business C&amp;G Tire before his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Roger Dean and John Kenneth, three sisters Barbara Tommey, Carrol Cansler and Marlena Wulff.&nbsp; He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, sister Dixie (Roger) Blake, son Richard Dean (Diana) Montgomery of Kansas City, MO, daughter Cynthia Jean (Guy) Carter of Independence, MO, grandchildren Linda Piemonte (Aaron), Elizabeth (Liz) Piemonte, Stephen (Danita) Brooke, Katherine Burr (Chris), Great grandchildren Gavin Brooke, Ryker Brooke, Makenzie and Hunter Brooke. He was born on December 14, 1958 to Jerold Laurence, Sr and Mary Esther (Shellenberger) Merriott in Hemple, MO.&nbsp;

Jerold was a welder and held many maintenance positions throughout his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.

He is survived by his son Bryan Merriott; grandchildren, Hadlee and Brody; sisters, Kathy (Randy) LaFollette, Diana Wohletz, Tracy (Michael) Kempf, and Paula (Ed) Craven; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17th in the Community Room at Woodbine Meadows, 102 S. Woodbine, St. Joseph, MO.

Sandra Kay Kennedy was born October 3rd, 1965 to Doris Sullivan and Jerald Nielson. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by family and loved ones on December 12th,&nbsp; 2022. She was 57 years old, but 29 to those who knew her best.

She leaves behind her husband of 36 years, John Kennedy of the home, son Ben (Asako) Nielson of Japan, Jenifer (Tyson) Berry of Cosby and Ashley (Brandon) Wilson of Rosendale. Sandy also leaves behind her “little big brother” Jay Nielson of Independence, sister Anita (Tom) Vestering of Kansas, Diane and Jim Sipes of Amazonia, who she loved like brother and sister. She leaves her greatest loves and joys, her grandchildren, Bradynn, Landen, Mason, Meina, Yuika and Logan. She loved these kiddos with her whole being.

Sandy devoted 23 years at International Paper. She made lifelong friends there. She enjoyed working&nbsp;beside her peers and bantering through the day. While not working, Sandy enjoyed catching bigger fish than the men, crocheting blankets for those she loved and spending time with family.

Sandra Kay Kennedy 1965 - 2022

Garry Joe Howdeshell 67, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday December 14, 2022 at his home. He was born February 24, 1955 in Steelville, Missouri son of the late Marie &amp; Henry Howdeshell. 

He married Debbie Patterson on August 29, 1981, and she survives of the home. He graduated from the Steelville High School class of 1973, and worked for the Buchanan County Road and Bridge Dept. as an equipment operator. He enjoyed his volunteer ministry, mushroom hunting, and working on cars. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the caregivers at Traditions Hospice, especially Michelle who adopted Garry as her "Old Man." He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. 

Garry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Melvin, Calvin, and Leland Greenwalt, and a sister, Charlotte Greenwalt. 

Survivors include: wife, Debbie Howdeshell of the home, brothers Henry and Larry Howdeshell, and a sister, Sheila Barnes.

Donald Eugene Stagner, 81, of Agency, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Mosaic Life Care. He was born February 18, 1941 in Frazier, MO, son of Helen and Paul Stagner. 

He graduated from Faucett High School, class of 1959. Donald retired from General Motors and farmed in the area for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going dancing, camping, traveling and the 4th of July. He loved his time spent on his farm and riding horses, especially as a child. Donald was a member of the Massey-Harris Association and the Joe Sam's Camping Club. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, Ruby Stagner, 2nd wife, Saundra Stagner, sisters, Betty Jean Wilczenski, Wilma Shaw and Patty Mauler, an infant brother, companions, Wanda June Means and Connie Schultz. 

Survivors include, daughters, Sherrie Stagner of Gower, MO and Shelly Hamrick of Indianapolis, IN, son, Timothy Stagner of Agency, MO, step-children, Candy (Rick) Pearson of Wellsville, KS, Chance (Cindy) Clements of Harrisonville, MA and Robin (Steve) Carpenter of Davis Island, FL, sister, Lois (Dave) Madinger of Dubois, PA, brothers, Larry (Michelle) Stagner of Faucett, MO and Dale Stagner of Willowbrook, MO, former son-in-law, Dan Hamrick of Indianapolis, IN, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Janet (Dallam) Mayfield 96, of St. Joseph, passed away December 14, 2022.&nbsp; Janet was born April 24, 1926, in St. Joseph, to Roy C. Sr. and Lottie (Finney)&nbsp; Dallam.

She married Joseph John Mayfield on November 10, 1944; he preceded her in death in October of 1989.&nbsp; She then married Larry Thurlow and he also preceded her in death, along with her parents, two sisters Marietta, Charlotte, and a brother Roy, Jr.

Survivors include daughter Charlotte Colgan-May; son Cody Mayfield (Connie); daughter Mona Meade (Larry); grandchildren, Patrick Colgan (Rhonda), Heather Mikesch (Matt), Joseph Mayfield (Christy), Rachel White (Mark), Thomas Mayfield, Scott Meade (Erika); great-grandchildren Casey Colgan (Colleen), Emily Mikesch, Jacob Mikesch, Clayton Mikesch, Cecilia Mayfield, Silas White, Madeline Meade; and a great-great-granddaughter Ozzy Jane Colgan.

Janet was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian-Trinity Presbyterian, where she always taught Sunday School and was in charge of Vacation Bible School.&nbsp; She had volunteered with Inter-Serv,&nbsp; the Cerebal Palsy School, and was a volunteer reader at Bessie Ellison. She was a member of the Kitchen band.&nbsp; &nbsp;Her and her husband Joseph John were King and Queen of the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Center for three years, and they were both very good dancers.&nbsp;

She had led exercise classes at Country Squire for over eight years, and was very active in the Missouri Department of Senior Aging.&nbsp; Janet was an active member of the Church Women United.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Backpack Buddies Program with Second Harvest or to Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Services will be Saturday, December 17, 2022, 11:30 am at&nbsp; Huffman United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 am.

Jane Michelle&nbsp;Bowman-Caskey, 52, Savannah, Missouri; passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022. &nbsp;As a woman with a generous heart, Jane’s last gift was&nbsp;that&nbsp;of an organ donor.

Jane was born on September 21, 1970 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Ernest and Margaret “Margie” Bowman. &nbsp;She was a graduate of Savannah R-III High School&nbsp;and received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University

After high school, Jane worked for the gas company. Her career as a caregiver&nbsp;for Progressive Community Services&nbsp;spanned more than 20 years.

Jane was a Christian. &nbsp;She&nbsp;had a soft spot in her heart for animals and&nbsp;was an avid reader. &nbsp;She&nbsp;enjoyed ceramics and playing Bingo and&nbsp;could often be found&nbsp;frequenting&nbsp;the library&nbsp;or The&nbsp;Pasture Café.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jane is survived by her father, Ernest&nbsp;Bowman (Debbie), Savannah, MO; sister, Billie and Darin Bergmann, Urbandale, IA; a brother, Ernest James&nbsp;“Jamey”&nbsp;and Beverly Bowman;&nbsp;Hawarden,&nbsp;IA; nieces and nephews, James (Destine) Bowman, Jack (Terri) Bowman, Chris Svoboda, Tiffany Messer, Emily Kinney; Trevin, Calvin and Kylie Bergmann; great-uncle, Joe Boatright; aunts and uncles, Ron and Adrianne Clark; Margaret Lee Black, Walter Bowman,&nbsp;numerous cousins,&nbsp;friends&nbsp;and companion, James Brown; three step-sisters, Laura Johnson, Sarah Lawson, and Paige Carman. &nbsp;
