Phyllis Beaty-Snyder, 86, Stewartsville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022.

On September 4, 1935 she was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Rex and Gertrude (McClain) Jones.

She graduated from Central High School where she was a cheerleader and known for her musical talent. Phyllis was one of a very few that could consistently hit a “high C” in the Glee Club.

Phyllis worked for Beaty Grocery in data entry on a room-sized computer and punch cards, then worked for Southwestern Bell. At one time, she was also a skip tracer tracking down people that owed money. She was an accomplished artist herself and loved the arts. Phyllis created her own artwork with oils, watercolors, and pencils. She loved museums, sculpture, theatre and live performances. From her younger years, Phyllis recalled one specific concert in Houston, Texas where she partied in the front row with Janis Joplin during her live performance. Phyllis was a Christian. She loved clothes, was always stylish and dressed to the nines. She loved animals, especially dogs.

She was preceded in death by her son, Scotty in November 1966; and both of her husbands, Charles L. Beaty and Stanley Snyder.

She is survived by her son, Chuck Beaty (Cara); grandchildren, Chris Beaty (Kim), Calvin Glenn (Ruby), and James Green; great-grandchildren, Vance, Alexander, Bridger, and Virginia Belle.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the care staff at Laverna Village where Phyllis lived for many years. Thank you to all those that loved her and she loved as family, especially Darci, Rachelle, Kennedy and Tyler.

The love of his life was his two nieces. He cared for them and loved them as if they were his own. Chase’s sister, Jessica said “My brother wasn’t just my brother, he was my best friend. I am forever grateful for the Uncle that he was to my girls. They adored him. It is impossible to put into words the depth of his heart. I will forever admire the genuine person he always was. He was ALWAYS there for me. I adored him.” Survivors include his parents, Brian and Michelle Hundley, Atchison, his sister Jessica (Nick) Cesare, Kansas City, MO, nieces Leilan Jene and Addelyn Nichole Cesare and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who all loved him dearly. Troy, Kansas - Richard “Dick” M. Stahl, 89, of Troy, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022, at The Willow in Wathena, Kansas.

Dick was born and raised in Troy, Kansas on April 12, 1933, to Richard F. and Mary (Macomber) Stahl.

He attended all twelve grades In Troy schools and graduated from Troy High School in 1951. &nbsp;Dick then attended both Benedictine and Kansas University for college. Majored in Journalism and worked for St. Joseph, Missouri News Press and Gazette from 1956 to 1968. He bought The Kansas Chief weekly newspaper of Troy in 1968 and operated until 1983.

He joined Kansas National Guard while in high school in 1949. Commanded Service Battery, 2nd&nbsp;Battalion, 130th&nbsp;Field Artillery and attained the rank of Captain. Dick spent his retirement years between Troy and summer home in Canada, near Flin Flon, Manitoba, where he entertained numerous guests and was considered one of the best hosts.

He served on Highland Community Board of Regents, Troy City Council, Doniphan County Bicentennial Commission, Mount Olive Cemetery Association. Dick was also a member of the American Legion Post #55, Kansas Press Association and Military Order of St. Barbara.

Dick was an only child and was preceded in death by his parents.

Dick’s wishes were to be cremated with graveside services at a later date.

She was born January 26, 1939 in St. Joseph to Tony and Frankie (Wayman) Leonardo. She graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart.

Antonia married Ronald L. Ellis on June 7, 1958. He survives of the home. She worked Westab, Webster Learning Center, and Bonnar Septic Service. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Antonia loved to fish and was an amazing seamstress. She was known for her blackberry cobbler and fried bread as well. A larger-than-life personality, she loved her family and loved to spoil everybody.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter; and one brother.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ronald; children, Ronald Ellis II (Nell), Christina Bunch (Jim), and Lesa Nash (Samuel); seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

On June 25, 1952 she was born to Teddy and Norma (Mathers) Slibowski. After graduating from Lafayette High School, Janet worked at American Family Insurance before moving into advertising sales. She started with Fletcher Mayo and retired in 2013 from Eagle Radio. Her career spanned St. Joseph, Des Moines, Iowa and Kansas City. She attended Ashland United Methodist Church. Janet loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed landscaping and flower gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Daniel Slibowski.

She is survived by Tom Ackley; sons, Douglas Korell (Linda) and Mark Korell (Julie); grandchildren, Eli, Kolby, Jake, Morgan; great-grandson, Jack; siblings, Barb Schneider (Denny), Julie Kirschner (Kevin), Tom Slibowski, Jean Hutchcraft, Mary Wilson, Lori Severn (Bill), Patty Jones (Mark), Becky Slibowski (Dave Seckinger), Leighanne Slibowski (Russell Book); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Floyd was born on November 7, 1937, in Lebo, Kansas to Floyd and Martha (St. Bonnett) Horton.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #55 and the Masonic Lodge Post #55 both of Troy, Kansas. Dave served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Kansas Army National Guard.

Dave was an equipment operator for Kansas Department of Transportation of Troy, Kansas.

Dave married Wanda Walters on December 31, 1962, in Seneca, Kansas. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Martin F. Horton.

Additional survivors, children, Steven Horton, McLouth, Kansas, Carolyn Clary (Cully), Troy, Kansas, Jay Horton (Valerie), Fort Worth, Texas.

Richard Charles “Rick” Hope passed away on June 6, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born in St. Joseph MO on January 14,1947, to Dick and Ida Mae Hope. He was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.

Rick graduated from Central High School in 1965. On June 17, 1972, Rick married Pam Morehead. They were blessed with the birth of their son, Andy, on April 2, 1977.

Rick worked as a credit manager for several large corporations. He was the Club Manager of the local AAA club. Before retiring, Rick worked many years, in customer service, at Lowe’s Home Improvement.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Dick Hope.

Rick is survived by his mother, wife, son Andy (Rachael), granddaughters Jaina and Addy, sister Sherry (Brian) Bailey, along with numerous cousins and many dear friends.

Jeff Scott Brill, 48, Faucett, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

He was born September 18, 1973 in Trenton, Missouri to Kenn and Evelynn (Romesburg) Brill. He was a 1991 graduate of Mid-Buchanan High School.

Jeff married Melinda Wegenka in 1993 and they had two sons together. They were married for 13 years and later divorced. He later married Tonya O’Neal, who preceded him in death. He later then married Kelly Hill.

He worked at Wiese for many years as a field service technician. He was a self-taught welder and excelled at it. Jeff enjoyed fishing, playing golf and pool with his sons. He was passionate about motorcycles. Outgoing and the life of the party, Jeff loved big Christmases and loved his boys more than anything.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; brother, Rob Lee; and second wife, Tonya.

He is survived by his children, Riley Brill (Samantha Waller) and Jordan Brill; brother, Tyler Stout (Rebecca); mother and father, Evelynn and Gary Stout; nieces and nephews, Colton, Dylan, Sophie, Layla, Cole, Abigail, Anna and Matthew.

Pamela Jean Anderson, 65, Oregon, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

She was born May 17, 1957 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Ronald and Betty (Reed) Smith.

Pamela married Stanley D. Anderson on July 11, 1975. He survives of the home. She worked at Sherwood Medical and retired from Fern Thatcher. Pamela enjoyed living out in the country and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Smith; son, Shon Anderson; and sister, Ann Anderson.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Stanley; son, Derek Anderson (Janessa Lafollette); grandchildren, Baylee and Beau Anderson; mother, Betty Smith; sister, Nancy Frakes (Floyd); and brothers, Dennis Smith (Barb) and Dale Smith.

Ulys Dale Payne, 91, Gallatin, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022.

On April 28, 1931 he was born in Ignacio, Colorado to Ulys Steven Payne and Eula Mae Burton.

He married Martha Lorraine Sheffield on November 12, 1955. Dale completed his bachelor’s degree at William Jennings Bryan College and then completed his missionary medical training at Biola University. He and Martha were missionaries to Brazil with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism for forty years before retiring. He was a life-long member of the South Holly Baptist Church in Centennial, Colorado.

He is survived at home by his wife of 66 years, Martha, three children, Mark Payne of Gallatin, Missouri, Sharon Payne, missionary in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Dean Payne of Fountain, Colorado, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one sister, Charlotte Hartley and Livingston, Texas, and one brother of Littleton, Colorado.

Colleen married John “Mike” Allen on July 8, 1992. After 30 years of marriage, he survives of the home.

Colleen was an employee at Roger’s Green Hills (Brother’s Market) for over 20 years. She enjoyed scrapbooking, sewing, spending time with grandchildren and getting lunch with her former East Buchanan coworkers.

Colleen was preceded in death by her mother, Azelda Malotte and brother, Donald Paul.

Mary Jane Newkirk, 91, Savannah, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022.

She was born December 15, 1930 in Weatherby, Missouri to Alfon and Mabel (Peters) Sauter.

Mary Jane married Orley Newkirk on April 3, 1949. He preceded her in death on October 22, 2014. She was very proud of their 65-year marriage. She was a longtime member of Central Christian Church.

Mary Jane enjoyed sewing, quilting and handwork. She loved puzzles, especially Sudoku. Food was very central to her life, whether it was cooking, sharing or hosting. She also loved to camp with the family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orley; parents; son, Rickey Newkirk; and six siblings.

She is survived by her children, Connie Myers (Ted), Marilyn Wehrli (Tim), and Jane McClurg (Keith); honorary daughter, Barbara Dunbar; nine grandchildren; two honorary grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six honorary great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Dora Ewart and Betty Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gavan Rehder Duering, 46, Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully.

He was born in Grand Island, NE November 18, 1975, raised in St. Joseph, MO, and moved his young family to Omaha, NE in 1999.

He was a Superintendent with Prairie Construction, where he worked for over 20 years.

Gavan loved deeply and was deeply loved. He had the biggest heart and gave the best hugs. He was the most loving and loyal son, brother, dad, grandpa, and friend anyone could ever have. We were often entertained by stories of his adventures, including skydiving in Arizona, and trips to Florida and Alaska. Family was most important to him, and all his many friends were considered family, too. Son, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words, missed beyond measure.

He was preceded in death by grandparents William R. Davis, Trinidad and Bonnie Aguilar; cousins Grant Jakubowski and Tyson Zimmer.

He is survived by son Cassidy Duering and daughter Samantha Duering both of Colorado; grandchildren Benjamin, Chase, Lucas and Emilia all of Colorado; father Rick Duering of Grand Island, NE; mother Leca Davis and stepfather Lee Jackson of St. Joseph, MO; sisters Heidi Duering of Radcliff, KY and Holly Rucker of St. Joseph, MO; grandmother Ruth Davis of Ottumwa, IA; girlfriend Jessica Schroeder and her two daughters Emilia and Charlotte; mother of his children Blakely Bruggeman; He is also survived by aunts, uncles, niece, nephews, cousins and many friends.

William “Bill” Webster, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022.

He was born December 22, 1931 in Cowgill, Missouri to William and Edith (Frazier) Webster.

He married Nancy Ann Diment on July 20, 1956. She survives of the home.

Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army in communications during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #359. In earlier years, Bill was a farmer and auto mechanic. Then he owned and operated Webster Appliance Repair and Sales for many years. He was known for his honesty and good service, which generated many loyal, longtime customers. Bill joined a woodworkers club after retirement, making dollhouses, desks, and other furniture for the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild; and brother, Lavern Webster.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy; children, Dan Webster (Gerri), Joe Webster (Lisa), Sally Webster, and Bill Webster (Gretchen); 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.

Sherylann Tasche, 65, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022.

She was born August 27, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois to Larry and Donna Stoll. Sherylann married David Tasche on October 27, 1979. He survives of the home.

Sherylann loved bowling and playing mini-golf. She was a great wife and terrific mom who loved spending time with her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, David; son, Derek Tasche (Jae); and grandchildren, Leia and Faith Tasche.

Sherylann Tasche 1956 - 2022

Robert Paul Murphy, 95, peacefully passed into everlasting life at his home in St. Joseph, Missouri on Sunday afternoon, June 5, 2022.

Bob was born to Lee and Nora Murphy in Grant City, Missouri, on December 29, 1926. 

He graduated from King City High School in 1944. Following his service in the Navy during World War II, he married Dixie Marie Wolford on June 18, 1947, and together they raised three sons.

Bob farmed near King City, Missouri until 1969, when he moved to St. Joseph to work as a maintenance supervisor at Dugdale Packing Co. A few years later, he purchased the Murphy Casket Co. which he operated for nearly twenty years. In 1996, Bob came out of retirement to be the bookkeeper for Communitech, a family-owned web-hosting business in Kansas City. He later worked for fourteen years as the bookkeeper for the St. Joseph law firm of Murphy, Taylor, Siemens &amp; Elliott. He finally retired in 2016 at the age of 90.

Bob was a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church and, in his younger years, had been a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Bob had distributed thousands of Bibles as a member of the Gideons.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie, in 2009; his son, David, in 1997; and his son, Mike, in 1992. 

He is survived by a son and daughter in-law, Ed and Sherry Murphy, of St. Joseph; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Murphy, of Cape Coral, Florida; seven grandchildren, Sarah Arnold, Kyle Murphy, Melissa Murphy, Matt Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Gabriel Murphy, and Megan Murphy-Fehling; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Robert P. Murphy 1926 - 2022

Corbett Van “Corky” Cundiff passed away June 2, 2022 at a local healthcare facility. Born in Bolckow, Missouri February 10, 1928, he was the youngest of five children and the only son of Corbett and Mary (Van Meter) Cundiff.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Virginia Ann (Jenkins) Cundiff; daughter Patricia Cundiff Benitz; sisters: Rheta Guthery, Gertrude Jones, Vivian Larson and Ava Lee Estes.

Corky married the love of his life, Virginia Ann Jenkins, on Good Friday, April 7, 1950 at Savannah Avenue Baptist Church. They had been married 71 Years at the time of his death. 

He is survived by a son, Rodney (Deborah) Cundiff; former son-in-law Wesley (Debbie) Benitz; grandchildren Brandon (Angie) Benitz, Jennifer (Lucas Gray) Benitz, Tyler (Kylee) Cundiff; step-grandchildren Scott (Mendi) Adams and Brent (Christine) Adams; great-grandchildren Connor Cundiff and Kennedy Cundiff; step-great-grandchildren Haden McDonald, Corbin McDonald, Sydney Adams and Brilynn Estes; a nephew and four nieces.

Corky graduated from Lafayette High School, class of 1946. Immediately upon graduation, he with seven other classmates enlisted in the Army. After basic training, they were deployed to Korea from 1946 to 1947. Returning to the States with an Honorable Discharge, Corky was selected for the Missouri State Highway Patrol Academy in 1950.

After graduating from the Academy in 1951, he spent the next 35 years with Troop H in Saint Joseph, retiring in 1986 with the rank of Sargent. During his career, he was assigned to numerous security details: The Missouri Pavilion at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York; bodyguard to Betty Ford at the Republican Convention in Kansas City; Honor Guard for the funeral of Governor John Dalton.

Upon retirement, Corky and Gin spent their summers at their lakefront house in Minnesota. Corky loved to fish for crappie and walleye there and to hunt for deer and turkey back in Missouri. He once said that being out in Nature made him feel closer to God, and hunting made him feel closer to his ancestors who had to live off the land.

Corky was a long-time member and deacon at Savannah Avenue Baptist Church, and more recently a member of First Baptist Church, Savannah, MO. He was a fifty-year member of Brotherhood Lodge #269 and a member of the American Legion Post of Savannah, MO.

Visitation is Thursday, June 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Meierhoffer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, June 10 at 1 p.m. with burial at Memorial Park. Rev. Dan Mefford will officiate.

Mary graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1950 and she and Joseph Wessel were married on Feb. 11, 1956 at Valley Falls. Joseph preceded Mary in death on August 4, 2018. They celebrated 65 years of marriage. Mary loved being a homemaker, housewife and mother. Family was very important to her, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. St. Ann’s Church and her faith was also important as she served in many ways at the church and even was the church organist for several years. Mary was a cook manager for the Atchison County Community Middle School for several years until she retired. Mary was a member of St. Ann’s Altar Society, a bridge card club, and she enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and playing cards and games with family. Survivors include two sons, Steve (Peggy) Wessel, Baldwin City, KS, Pat (Lisa) Wessel, Valley Falls, KS; three daughters, Judy (Tony) Jackson, Lancaster, KS, Linda (Tony) Kearney, Atchison, KS, Marlene (Mark) Westermann, Everest, KS; ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Leo Grollmes, Winchester, KS; brother-in-law, Tom (Connie) Wessel, Ft. Worth, TX; sister-in-law, Virginia Grollmes, Valley Falls. St. Joseph, Missouri……Tyler Dewayne Collins, age 36, was born June 8, 1985, in St. Joseph, Missouri the son of Wayne and Kim (Clark) Collins and passed away June 4, 2022.

Tyler worked as a machine operator in the metal fabrication industry.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed classic cars and going to car shows.&nbsp;

Tyler cherished his time with his family, and was a wonderful father, son, brother,&nbsp;&nbsp;friend, and co-parent with Laura Collins.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kendall; grandfather, Dean Collins; grandmother, Janice Clark; and cousin, Brett Dillivan.

Survivors include his fiancé, Jessica Frazier; parents, Wayne and Kim Collins; children, Kylee Collins, Steven Branson, Skyler Collins, Lilly Collins, Leah Collins; grandmother, Joy Collins; grandfather, Bob Clark; sister Jennene Noah (Jeff); brother, Billy Collins; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mr. Todd was a teacher for USD 377 – Atchison County Community High School for many years and was a farmer. He served in the United States Army after marrying Marjorie Belle Coleman on Aug. 11, 1951, at her parents’ home near Denison, KS. Clarence was a member of the Effingham Union Church, where he sang in the choir, was a member of the Gideon’s International, the National Education Association, the Kansas Anthropological Association, the Pony Express Travelers RV Club, the Northeast Kansas Area Agency Board of Directors, the Effingham Tree Board, was active with 4H and the Extension work, member of the Promise keepers, Senior Olympics (Cycling), Clarence biked across Kansas at the age of 64. He enjoyed archaeology, genealogy, photography, music, mobile RV camping. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include two sons David R. (Elizabeth) Todd, Effingham, KS, and Allen R. (Wendy) Todd, Manhattan, KS, a daughter Diane (Kevin) Kiehl, Horton, KS, nine grandchildren, Jared Todd, Dallas Todd, Megan Gracey, Mindee Gehring, Jordan Todd, Derek Todd, Matthew Kiehl, Claire Todd, and Coleman Todd and nine great grandchildren, Maddox, Marcello, Isabel, Khloe, Knox, Canon, Graham, Dawson and Deacon. Nancy Ann Peery, 81, Stewartsville, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022.

She was born December 3, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Ivan and Ruth (Maddox) Sells.

Nancy married Fred Allen Peery on December 1, 1961. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1996. S

he was a longtime member of Culbertson United Methodist Church in Stewartsville, where she was an advocate for disabled children. Nancy was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Nancy loved people, especially children, often claiming them as her own grandkids. She loved family reunions. A wonderful mother, Nancy touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her parents; son, Gregg Peery; daughter, Nancy A. Peery, Jr.; granddaughter, Sarah Beth McCoy; siblings, Ivan Sells and Mary Jane Blanton.

She is survived by children, George McCoy (Michele), Fonda Bomar (Alva), and Fawn Peery; grandchildren, Kyle McCoy (Heidi), Anna and Allysanne Bomar; great-grandchildren, Maely, Madelyn and Kole McCoy; brother; James E. (Joy) Sells; extended family and friends.

Paul (PL) Williams, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

He was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Lawrence McGee and Anna Williams.

Paul married Janis Ross on July 7, 1971. She survives of the home. He was a member of St. Francis Baptist Temple. Paul enjoyed cooking for his family and in his restaurant, “PJ’s Place”.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Bobetta Bundy; sons Michael and Gary Williams.

He is survived by his children Paul Williams, Jr.; Larry Williams (Sheryl Wolfe); Kyle Weston (Lisa); Roxanne Williams (Duane); Marquetta Weston; Tanya McGilbray (Terrence, Sr.); Sean Williams (Mary); 17 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; two nieces, Anna Bundy and Myla Franklin; numerous extended family and friends.
