BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — A southeastern Nebraska police chief says a man shot by a Beatrice police officer in a confrontation following a high-speed chase has died.

Beatrice Police Chief Bruce Lang tells radio station KWBE that 35-year-old Bradley Allen of Lincoln died Tuesday afternoon — nearly three days after the Saturday night shooting. Lang said Allen had led officers on a high-speed chase in Gage County that exceeded 100 mph at times. Allen eventually fled the vehicle on foot and was later confronted by a Beatrice officer.

 The officer said Allen yelled that he had a gun, then reached into his waistband. leading the officer to shoot Allen several times. Police had said Monday that Allen was in critical but stable condition following surgery.

Lincoln man dies from wounds sustained in Beatrice police shooting

GRUNDY COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 8p.m. Wednesday in Grundy County.

&nbsp;The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Dodge Challenger driven by a 16-year-old boy from Trenton was westbound on Route E two miles northwest of Laredo.

After negotiating a curve in the road, the car traveled off the north side of the road, struck a ditch and rolled.

Grundy County Ambulance transported the teen to Wright Memorial Hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

Missouri teen hospitalized after rollover accident

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged violent incident that occurred on April 19 in the 500 Block of North 10th Street in Atchison.

On Tuesday, officers arrested 34-year-old&nbsp;Anthony W. Lunsford of Atchison, in the 800 block Main Street, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

He is being held on requested charges of domestic battery, theft, and criminal damage to property. Lunsford also faces charges involving possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia which were found on his person and for resisting arrest, according to Wilson.

Lunsford has spend time in custody numerous times over the past five years and was convicted of theft, according to online jail records.&nbsp;

Police capture Kansas domestic battery, theft suspect

PLATTE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that the individual killed overnight in Platte City by police after a multi-county pursuit and standoff, was the suspect in an early-morning homicide Sunday at a tavern in Kansas City Kansas, according to a media release from police.

On Tuesday morning, Wyandotte County Police issued a warrant for first-degree murder and aggravated battery for 27-year-old Mekiah D. Harris of KCK. The victim in the homicide Michael Rehard, also a resident of KCK, died on the scene. Two other shooting victims were transported to a local hospital. They remain hospitalized but are expected to recover, according to police.

The Platte Co. Sheriff's office will lead the investigation into the officer-shooting.

Police say the man was armed when he bailed out of the car and ran into a wooded area south of Platte City. Police and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers soon surrounded the area and confronted the man, who was fatally shot. Police have not released the man's name or other details about the shooting.

Update: Kan. man fatally shot by police was homicide suspect 

Theresa Grosbach was the logical choice as Missouri Western's interim athletic director, once Josh Looney announced his departure for the A.D. job at Division I school North Alabama.

Prior to her arrival in St. Joseph in 2018, Grosbach had spent six years as A.D. at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. She joined Missouri Western&nbsp;as associate director of athletics for student success and senior woman administrator.

Little did she know she'd be interim A.D. for more than eight months. An eight-month period that brought unprecedented change and turnover to the athletic department. Nonetheless, she remains grateful for the experience, as her time as interim athletic director draws to a close.

"I'd say I'm very grateful for the staff we have and the coaches that we have and how hard they worked and how much they bought into just continuing to move forward while we were waiting for this decision," Grosbach said. "Excited for the student-athletes and all of the success we've had through the year and looking forward to the future of Griffon athletics."

Grosbach was praised Monday, as Missouri Western <a href="https://stjosephpost.com/posts/dead3c5d-95c7-4a2d-9331-cecfecf65592">introduced Andrew Carter as its new permanent athletic director</a> after a nine-month search.

Carter says if it wasn't for Grosbach's efforts to keep things running smoothly, he may have never even considered applying for the position.

"I mean, if it had fallen apart, I don't know if it'd have checked all of the boxes," Carter said of the department. "She kept it going, she made really good decisions. She led in that void and she's put us in a position to just hit the ground running and keep going."

Grosbach oversaw the hiring of four new Missouri Western head coaches - Jessica Fey for volleyball, Jessica Berg for women's lacrosse, Alejandro De la Torre for women's tennis and Joe Yegge, who was hired as the new softball coach just days before Looney's departure.

In addition, Missouri Western is seeking a new&nbsp;senior associate athletic director for external affairs. Brett Esely left that role last November after 14 years. Additionally, associate A.D. Eric Kramer is leaving to take on a professor role at the end of the current school year.

Derek Zimmerman-Guyer, a Plattsburg native, was brought on as the sports information director this past March after that post had been vacant for a few months.

Challenges. Changes. Grosbach is familiar with all of that.

"In athletics, we know better than anyone that you have to be resilient," she said. "Change is inevitable. It's kind of what we do every day. You get knocked down and you get back up again. That's just part of what you do and I think you learn a lot of lessons about that throughout the year."

"I'm proud of our staff and student-athletes for overcoming any challenges that we had this year and coming out successful and better for it on the other end."

University president Elizabeth Kennedy emphasized her gratitude for Grosbach and all of her work this past school year.

"She's been wonderful," Kennedy said of Grosbach. "I know the (athletic) department has leaned on her as well. So, we're happy to have Andy now and Theresa can kind of step back into her (senior woman administrator) role. But, she's just been outstanding for us. I'm very grateful for her."

Grosbach earned the Griff Up Award last week at the annual Golden Griffon Awards, given to the individual in Missouri Western athletics who stepped up the most in a time of need.

Missouri Western football coach Matt Williamson, one of the nine members on the University's A.D. search committee, expressed optimism for the future of the athletic department. A future, he says, that wouldn't have been possible without Grosbach's efforts.

"I love her to death for all of the things that she did," Williamson said. "She did a great job. With her just passing the torch to Andy, and getting this thing going again, it's going to be fun."

"It was a time where things could have really busted at the seams," Missouri Western men's basketball coach Will Martin added on Grosbach's tenure. "Theresa held the fabric together, and more than that. She didn't just help keep things stable - she helped us succeed at a very high level and thrive. What she did is paramount."

Missouri Western women's basketball's berth into the Elite Eight is the headliner from this year. But Griffon football had a winning record. Women's soccer achieved its highest ranking in program history at No. 13 in the fall.

Missouri Western softball is on an eight-game winning streak heading into the MIAA tournament as the No. 4 seed this week. Women's tennis is having its best season probably ever, finishing second at the MIAA tournament last weekend and getting an NCAA tournament bid for the first time 1998.

Women's golfer Allycia Gan is in her second NCAA regional tournament this week, trying to get to nationals for a second year in a row. Just a few of the highlights from an eventful year.

Grosbach looks forward to more achievements, and is excited for what lies ahead. That including a long and well-earned vacation.

"Vacation is looming," she said. "Location is undetermined. I've been advised not to share it to be able to turn off the phone for a couple of weeks, but...probably a beach somewhere."

Theresa Grosbach praised for her work during time of unprecedented change in MWSU athletics

A new space on the grounds of Mosaic Life Care will provide cancer patients with all of the services they need under one roof. &nbsp;

Mosaic Life Care officials officially opened the doors to the new Cancer Care Center on Tuesday morning. &nbsp;

Mosaic Life Care Oncologist&nbsp; Dr. Rony Abou-Jawde, better known as Doctor AJ, says it's difficult to put into words how exciting it is to see this new facility finally open, after plans for it began back in 2017. &nbsp;

"When you've had several business plans put on hold, and then you start and you finally get started and COVID comes along, and then everything stops, but this administration didn't stop," Doctor AJ tells reporters. "They said we're going to continue, we're going to continue in the middle of everything, so every time we got closer it felt like it was still 10 miles away, so this is truly, truly what I meant by a dream come true."&nbsp;

Doctor AJ says the mission from the very beginning was how to get everything a patient needs in one place to make the experience for the patient a little brighter.&nbsp;

"It's very difficult when you're sick, it's extremely difficult when you have cancer, and then you have to go from one place to another and wait in one place, and wait in another place, here you get everything done in the same facility," Doctor AJ says. "Just a walking distance from one facility to another, medical oncology, radiation, labs, social services, chemotherapy, all in one place."&nbsp;

The new space feautres a spacious infusion room with floor to ceiling windows that overlook the lake and walking trail areas of Mosaic Life Care. 

The space can serve up to 200 patients and officially opens for patients on May 9th.

While there wasn't direct involvement, consultation from the Mayo Clinic was helpful in the development. &nbsp;

Medical Director for the Mayo Clinic Care Network Mark Larson says that not many hospitals in the United States offer an integrated cancer center&nbsp;

"This is truly state of the art," Larson explains. "So, to have medical oncology, radiation oncology, spiritual care, massage care, acupuncture care, pharmacy, infusion therapy, even wigs and hair support for those individuals who have lost their hair as part of the cancer care journey, to have that all under one facility is truly fantastic."&nbsp;

Larson believes this new cancer center offers an exceptional amount of care for patients in northwest Missouri.&nbsp;

Mosaic Life Care opens new state of the art facility to care for cancer patients

Missouri state Sen.
Tony Luetkemeyer is hopeful his measure capping property tax assessments can
clear the legislature before the session ends in two weeks.

Luetkemeyer says
property tax assessments have doubled and tripled in the last couple of
assessment cycles in some parts of Missouri.

“That really puts
a strain on folks, because your largest asset for most people is their home and
when the government dramatically increases their taxes, it creates a risk of
somebody being taxed out of their home and that’s particularly true for seniors
and other folks who are on fixed incomes,” Luetkemeyer tells KFEQ/St. Joseph
Post.

Luetkemeyer’s
measure that would keep property assessments from rising more than 10% every
two years or at the rate of inflation, whichever is lower. The measure, and a
companion bill, has passed the Senate and moved to the House.

Luetkemeyer, a
Republican from Parkville, says there is strong support in Jefferson City for
holding down the rise in property assessments, which at times have caused huge
spikes in a homeowner’s property tax bill.

“I view this
really as a bipartisan issue,” Luetkemeyer says. “Whether you’re Democrat or Republican,
the fact is there needs to be some reasonable control over the amount that some
of these property taxes are going to increase during the assessment cycle.
Otherwise, people are literally getting taxed out of their homes and I don’t
think anyone, regardless of party, wants to see that happen.”

Three measures
total have a chance of passing this legislative session, two of which are sponsored
by Luetkemeyer. One bill would freeze property assessments for the homes of
senior citizens.

Luetkemeyer is
optimistic something will pass, stating huge spikes in property tax assessments
have become common throughout the state, in both rural and urban Missouri.

A St. Joseph man has written a book about his great
grandfather who just so happens to be the father of the National Institutes of
Health.

Oh, and he also discovered the Bubonic Plague in America.

Joseph Houts, Jr. says he first thought about writing the
story of Joseph James Kinyoun, his great grandfather, while wrapping up his
history degree in college. It took decades before he would.

Houts says Kinyoun learned a lot from studying the origins of
disease during two 19th Century Wars:&nbsp; the Crimean War and the Civil War.

“Even in the Civil War, there’s a lot of conflicting (accounts),
I’m pretty solid that 875,000 American lives died during that conflict and, of
that, probably 625,000 were from disease,” Houts tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ
Hotline.

Houts has written a book entitled Joseph James Kinyoun.
A PBS documentary, “Plague at the Golden Gate,” comes out next month.

Houts says Kinyoun made the connection between cleanliness and
disease, especially after studying under European bacteriologists.

“Sanitation was the key to modern health more than anything,
too,” Houts says. “That if you had clean water and clean living quarters, you
got rid of your trash, your sewage and things like that, you had a great chance
of eradicating a lot of these diseases.”

Houts says Kinyoun also discovered Bubonic Plague had reached
America when it took the lives of several San Francisco residents in China
Town.

“He was the one that knew the rat-flea connection, that it was
a black rat with the flea, then the flea carried the plague,” according to
Kinyoun. “And then if you lived in unsanitary conditions, where the rats were
eating the rubbish out in your street and they’ve got the plague, look out.”

Houts says his great grandfather paid a huge price for
discovering that the Bubonic Plague had come ashore in San Francisco’s China
Town with political and business interests threatening his life if he
publicized his findings. Leaders in San Francisco feared publicity about the
plague would ruin the city.

Kinyoun also butted heads with his superiors, leaving his
reputation in tatters.

Lost in the controversy was Kinyoun’s contribution to the
United States’ health system. Kinyoun founded the Hygienic Laboratory which
became the NIH.

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect following a Monday arrest.

On Monday, police arrested 42-year-old&nbsp;Ricky L. Gasper of Atchison, was&nbsp; on a Salina Kansas Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear in court, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Gasper has a previous conviction on weapons charges, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

After a hiatus over the last two years, the St. Joseph Allied Arts Council's annual Beer Walk for the Arts is set to make its comeback this year.&nbsp;

Arts Volunteer Liby Waltemath says during the walk, you can drive if you want, but she encourages everyone to walk the route along Museum Hill. &nbsp;

"Very walkable, we have the homes on the tour, but there's plenty to stop and look at from the murals, to the landscaping, to just other homes that aren't on the tour so, we definitely encourage people to do that," Waltemath tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr. "If there's mobility issues driving is encouraged because there are quite a few hills and some terrain to traverse while you're there, but if you can walk, I would suggest it there's just so much beauty in that neighborhood going on."&nbsp;

The walk will begin and end at the Wyeth Tootle mansion and feature six houses along the walk including the Browne House, Edmond House, and the Kemper Wylie House among others. &nbsp;

Waltemath says in the four years she has volunteered for the Beer Walk, she has really seen it evolve. &nbsp;

"The breweries that we've been able to sample from and experiences that we can bring to our residents here through tasting beer, the homes, otherwise is really nice," Waltemath says. "It's a lovely showcase of regional beers and I think it really showcases another really great facet to St. Joseph history which is a brewing tradition."&nbsp;

In fact, one house along the route, the Nunning House, formerly had a brewery attachedLoc

The Beer Walk for the Arts will feature local restaurants, live music, as well as artists at some of the houses working on uncompleted pieces of artwork.&nbsp;

Allied Arts Council spokesperson Kathy Reno says the opportunity to watch an artist work on a piece of art is very unique to the Beer Walk for the Arts. &nbsp;

"We had to find artists that were kind of in the middle of something that they could work on and show, and that was a bit of a challenge, so we had a couple of volunteers take that on and they did a lovely job because that's something that's very different," Reno explains.&nbsp;

Sample some beer and view some art as the Beer Walk for the Arts makes a comeback

Andrew Carter considers himself a man of the people. That's what he pledges to be for as long as he's athletic director at Missouri Western State University.

"Everything we do is going to be about growing great relationships," Carter said Monday at his introductory press conference at Spratt Stadium on the St. Joseph campus.

"Whether that's in the department with our student-athletes, with our colleagues across the campus, with the community and building those strong relationships so we can all grow together. We're going to focus on a culture that is inclusive. That allows people to want to be part of what we're doing."

Carter was officially introduced after being named as the University's ninth athletic director on April 20. University president Elizabeth Kennedy noted Carter's vast experience in intercollegiate athletics, which spans over 30 years, as a key qualification.

"He's just a very strong individual," Kennedy said. "Very balanced, very disciplined. Can be kind of fun, too. We're just excited to have him here."

Carter has spent the last 25 years as an athletic director at various places, including Missouri Baptist, Armstrong Atlantic State in Georgia and Newberry College in South Carolina, where he was VP of intercollegiate athletics.

He was also A.D. Northwest Oklahoma State, where he helped gain NCAA DII membership for the University. He was later appointed to the NCAA Division II Membership Committee in 2019.

"Andrew has also demonstrated good stewardship of University resources," Kennedy continued. "Increasing athletic department revenue in order to pay for program and facility improvements. Andy's career has well prepared him to build on the solid foundation that Griffon athletics has established."

 Carter has spent the last six years as the A.D. at Division II Minot State in North Dakota - a member of the NSIC Conference. Carter says the competitive nature of the MIAA was a big draw in taking this new role.

"I had always wanted to be a part of this league," he said. "I know Mike Racy, the commissioner, very well. I know the way they do things, I know the competitive nature within the league. All of that competition really puts wind under our wings to help raise our level to a higher place."

A St. Charles, Missouri native, Carter attended East Central College, earned his bachelor's degree from Missouri Baptist and a master's from Lindenwood. He and his wife, Rena, have seven children and 11 grandchildren.

Carter won seven straight conference titles as the head baseball coach at Missouri Baptist in the 1990s, where he played baseball himself. In fact, his final collegiate game was at St. Joseph's Phil Welch Stadium, where Missouri Baptist lost to Missouri Southern in the NAIA tournament.

St. Joseph isn't home, but it's pretty close.

"When I was living in St. Charles or St. Louis, I would think, 'Man, Missouri Western is way over there,'" Carter recalled. "Now, as an adult, a professional, I've been in conferences where a five-hour drive is nothing. Fond memories here. My grandmother was born here. We have family that was raised here."

Carter's hiring ends what was a nine-month search for Missouri Western. Josh Looney announced his resignation late last July to take the A.D. role at Division I North Alabama.

Theresa Grosbach, Senior Woman Administrator and former athletic director at Baker University in Kansas, served as interim A.D. for Missouri Western since late August.

In that time, the athletic department saw significant turnover, and had new head coaches hired in lacrosse, tennis and volleyball. Joe Yegge was hired as the new head softball coach just before Looney's departure.

Missouri Western also hired a new sports information director this past March, and are still looking to permanently fill the role of&nbsp;senior associate athletic director for external affairs. Brett Esely left that role last November after 14 years.

Additionally, associate A.D. Eric Kramer is leaving to take on a professor role at the end of the school year.

Needless to say, Grosbach received a lot of praise for her work over the last 9-10 months.

"If it had fallen apart, I don't know if (Missouri Western) would have checked all of the boxes," Carter said. "She really kept it going. She made really good decisions. She led in that void and she's put us in a position to hit the ground running and keep going."

Grosbach, who has a vacation on the horizon she says, expressed gratitude for the support staff who helped her hold things together during a time of transition.

"I would say I'm very grateful for the staff and the coaches that we have and how hard they worked and how much they bought into continuing to move forward," Grosbach said. "Excited for the student-athletes and looking forward to the future of Griffon athletics."

There are still roles to be filled and work to be done. Securing the future of Chiefs training camp is toward the top of the list. This is the final year of the agreement with the Chiefs, with two optional years after this.

"I've already got meetings on my calendar to get involved in that and start building those relationships," Carter revealed. "We want to have them here. We want to have that tie with them. That co-brand is awesome. That's very important to the University and the community."

Beyond that, Carter wants to build relationships. Listen to the needs of coaches and student-athletes. Get everyone pulling in the same direction. Build on what's already in place. Be a people person.

"My job is to connect with everybody and understand what they want out of this experience," he said. "What are they trying to accomplish and how does that fit in with the mission of the department and the University, and connecting all of those things through."

"This is a people business. If you don't know the people you're working with or that you're leading or are helping them try to achieve something, then your efforts will be in vain."&nbsp;

Andrew Carter looks to build relationships, build on the foundation of MWSU athletics as new A.D.

Friend of the Animal Shelter's Melanie Barnes says that the Bissell Pet Foundation is going to help waive adoption fees from May 2nd to the 14th.&nbsp;

"I don't know if you've ever seen commercials for Bissell, but they very much promote their vacuums for picking up pet hair or maybe spot cleaning accident spots or things like that," Barnes tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr. "So, they are a huge company that supports adoption and having pets in your household."&nbsp;

Barnes says the Bissell Pet Foundation chose 100 animal shelters nationwide for its national 'Empty the Shelters' event.&nbsp;

"And so, we were chosen as one of our shelters with the Bissell Pet Foundation to Empty the Shelters," Barnes explains. &nbsp;

But this offer Barnes says will only be available for a limited time this month. &nbsp;

"Starting May 2nd running through May 14th adoption fees for adoptable pets are waived because they are being sponsored by Bissell Pet Foundation," Barnes says. &nbsp;

Barnes says you will have to fill out all the normal paperwork you would need to adopt a pet, but the shelter will get reimbursed by Bissell for each adoption through the 14th. &nbsp;

And Barnes says now is the perfect time to come out to adopt a pet.&nbsp;

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man following hit and run accident.

Just after 6:30p.m. Friday, a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Ethan D. Hale of Atchison, struck a vehicle at U.S.73 and RavenHill Road and left the scene, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A police officer later located Hale in the 400 block South 10th. The&nbsp; Kansas Highway Patrol took him into custody. He remains jailed without bond on requested charges that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal damage to property, DUI and reckless driving, according to online jail records.

CLINTON COUNTY —A Missouri man died in an accident just after 3p.m. Saturday in Clinton County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2011 GMC Acadia driven by by Forest Younce, 56, Higginsville, was southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 169 just south of County Road 223 two miles south of Grayson.

The GMC struck the rear of a northbound 2011 Dodge Ram driven by Rosalyn L. Jones, 50, Plattsburg and the front of a 2020 Jeep Gladiator driven by Molly M. Ray, 39, Kearney, Missouri. After impact, the Dodge rolled off the east side of the road.

Younce was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Frontier Forensics.&nbsp; Lifenet transported Jones to KU Medical Center. A private vehicle transported Ray to Mosaic in St. Joseph. Younce was also not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY —A Missouri man was injured in an accident just after 9p.m. Friday in Livingston County.&nbsp;

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1999 Ford Ranger driven by Larry K. Mabe, 81 Chillicothe, was southbound on MO 190 five miles south of Chillicthe.

The driver failed to stop for a stop sign. The pickup traveled through the intersection off the highway and down an embankment.&nbsp; The vehicle traveled into a grove of trees and struck several of them.

Chillicothe ambulance transported Mabe to Hedrick Medical Center. He was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Friday is the last day for area restaurants to sign up for St. Joseph's third annual Restaurant Week, which comes up May 10-17.

St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce director of membership services Jess Mengel explains the overall purpose of Restaurant Week.

"Highlighting the local flavors of St. Joseph," Mengel said on KFEQ's The Hotline. "Obviously, we don't discriminate against any franchises that are in town. We love them, too. A lot of them are locally owned. Really, it's a way to drive revenue to the people who are in our community. Get people to try something they haven't tried before."

Any restaurant who hasn't signed up yet can do so on the St. Joseph Chamber of <a href="https://members.saintjoseph.com/events/2022St%20Joseph%20Restaurant%20Week-1880/details">Commerce website</a>. Mengel says 34 restaurants had signed up as of Thursday morning. That's up from the 32 that signed up last year.

All participating restaurants are making a donation to the Open Door Food Kitchen in St. Joseph.

In addition, Parties on the Parkway is making its return to St. Joseph this summer with the first concert slated for May 12.

Mengel says this annual summer concert series is a great activity for the whole family.

"It's family friendly," she said. "It's something to do on a Thursday, which is kind of one of those days of the week where you're ready for the weekend, but you're just not quite there. So, it adds something to do and it's not a huge trip to go do it. It's local, you can eat, be outside, you can drink. It's just a good time for everyone there."

Parties on the Parkway comes up on the second Thursday of every month starting in May. The first show features the band Under the Influence. They'll play from 5-8 p.m. on May 12 at Southwest Parkway and King Hill Drive.

Admission to these concerts are free, and they feature several food and drink vendors. Pets are also welcome to come to the concerts as well.

St . Joseph Chamber of Commerce previews Restaurant Week, Parties on the Parkway

National travel and tourism week is coming and the St. Joseph Visitors Bureau hopes it will spread awareness about how important tourism is to St. Joe. &nbsp;

Visitors Bureau spokesperson Beth Conway says last year gave the visitors bureau an indication of what was happening in the tourism industry following the COVID pandemic.&nbsp;

"We did see a definite growth, but not a growth similar to those numbers we would have seen in 2018-2019, but we are very encouraged by those jumps especially our attendances at museums which were up 63%," Conway tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.&nbsp;

The 39th annual Travel and Tourism week runs May 1st through the 7th.&nbsp;

Conway says through the week the visitor's bureau will use social media to spread facts about tourism in Buchanan County.&nbsp;

"Hopefully kind of changing the minds of our locals that maybe think that perhaps we don't see a lot of visitors from various places but in reality, we see people from all over the world here on a yearly basis," Conway explains. "And so, we use it as a way to educate our locals on who comes to town and what their testimonials are."&nbsp;

Conway says one part of emphasizing travel in Buchanan County will be those testimonials from tourists, which she believes are very powerful.&nbsp;

"When telling stories about people and why they came here, what they came here expecting to see, maybe that their pre conceived notions were changed once they got here and they saw exactly how much there was to see and do," Conway points out. "I think those testimonials really speak very highly to the quality of an attraction destination we have here in St. Joseph."&nbsp;

The Visitors Bureau will also hold a big "Tourism Celebration" event on Friday May 6th in the parking lot of the Convention and Visitors Bureau. &nbsp;

Geranium plants will be given out, Q County will be on site for a live remote, and Geneo's pizza will be handing out slices of pizza while supplies last.&nbsp;
