&nbsp;Maikel Garcia hit a two-run homer and Michael Wacha pitched 5 2/3 strong innings as the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Friday night, climbing ever closer to the bottom spot in the AL Wildcard.

Garcia hit Pablo López’s first pitch high above the left-field bullpen after Vinnie Pasquantino singled with two out in the third inning for a 2-0 lead.&nbsp;Brooks Lee and Jhonny Pereda hit consecutive doubles in the fifth inning for the Twins' run.&nbsp;

Wacha, improved to 9-11 earning the win, allowing a run on four hits and two walks, striking out five.&nbsp; Carlos Estévez earned his major league-best 38th save with help from a sliding catch by center fielder Kyle Isbel.&nbsp; At the plate, Garcia was 2-for-4 with the home run and two RBI's.&nbsp; Pasquantino was 2-for-4 with a double.

Bobby Witt Jr. left the game after six innings due to low back spasms.

High School Football Schedule Sept. 5th-6th

Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-out solo home run in the eighth inning and the Kansas City Royals beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 on Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium avoid a sweep in a three-game series.

The Royals hit four solo homers in a game where all seven runs came on home runs.

The Angels got on the board in the first on a three-run homer by Luis Rengifo. With two outs, Taylor Ward singled, Jo Adell walked and Rengifo hit a slider 384 feet down the left-field line.&nbsp; The Royals answered in the second on Adam Frazier's home run, the 1,000th hit of his MLB career.

Vinnie Pasquantino connected on his 29th home run of the season leading off the fourth inning to trim the deficit to one run.&nbsp; The Royals tied it when Salvador Perez hit his 24th home run of the season, leading off the seventh inning.

Witt Jr's solo home run in the eighth inning gave the Royals the lead.&nbsp; Witt helped the Royals to the win, one day after a costly fielding mistake gave the Angels a win in the second game of the three game series.

&nbsp;Noah Cameron allowed three runs on five hits through five innings.&nbsp; Lucas Erceg earned the win, improving to 7-4, striking out two in one inning and Carlos Estévez picked up his major league-best 37th save.&nbsp; At the plate, Pasquantino was 2-for-4 with the home run and an RBI.&nbsp; Witt Jr was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run with one RBI.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Up next, Kansas City&nbsp;continue their nine-game homestand against Minnesota.&nbsp;&nbsp;Michael Wacha (8-11, 3.52) will start for the Royals while the Twins have not named a starter.&nbsp; First pitch tomorrow is at 6:40 with pregame coverage beginning at 6 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).

Witt Jr makes up for costly mistake to help snap losing streak

After coming home with another second-place finish last season, the Bishop LeBlond volleyball team is opening up this season with new competition.  

The Missouri State High School Activities Association moved the Golden Eagles from Class 2 to Class 3, meaning tougher competition against bigger schools.  

Coach Kim Huss says the team is excited for new competition, saying it keeps you fresh and moving forward 

"Sometimes when you play the same people over and over and over, you kind of lose that perspective of how you need to improve because things become to simple," Huss says on the KFEQmunnity show.  "And so, when you are faced with new challenges it forces your team to grow, it forces them to sharpen their skillset and understand different types of competition and levels of competition." 

Huss says it's important though to remind her team that success isn't just making it to the final four however 

"There's many ways our student athletes can be successful every day, and we're focusing on this season in a week-by-week fashion," Huss explains.  "Kind of attacking our opponents and attacking the preparation weekly to know what we have ahead of us in that short time frame." 

Bishop LeBlond has made it to three final fours in the last four years, with two second place finishes and one third place.   

As the new season begins, the Golden Eagles are hopeful to make it back to the final four, with excitement that it is being held in their own backyard at Civic Arena.  

"Brett Esely and his team at St. Joseph Sports Commission have done a lot of work for a lot of years, I don't know if people really realize how long this goes back," Huss says. 

Huss says there is excitement for her and among her team after every final four she's been to being held in Cape Girardeau 

"And while Cape Girardeau is a wonderful little city, it is really far away from St. Joseph, and there's no fast way to get there," Huss says.  "So, we're excited that it can be a little closer to home." 

LeBlond opened their season over the weekend in the Inaugural Pony Express Girls High School Volleyball State Tournament Preview hosted by the St. Joseph Sports Commision, going 3-1 and winning their pool.

Bishop LeBlond VB opens new season with new competition ahead

The Kansas City Royals came back to tie up the game in the seventh inning, but Los Angeles outfielder Jo Adell was too much to handle on this night for Kansas City as the Royals fell 4-3 at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Royals took the lead in the third inning to start the game.&nbsp; Michael Massey singled and Jac Caglianone walked, before a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Isbel brought Massey home, thanks to a throwing error by Angels first baseman Oswald Peraza, moving Isbel to second and Caglianone to third.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mike Yastrzemski's sacrifice fly brought Caglianone home extending the lead, putting the Royals up 2-0 at the end of three innings.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Royals held that lead until the sixth inning as starting pitcher Ryan Bergert continued to impress since being acquired by the San Diego Padres, allowing just one hit through five innings.&nbsp; After a walk to start the sixth, Bergert was pulled for John Schreiber, who surrendered a single to&nbsp;Yoán Moncada and after striking out Taylor Ward gave up a go ahead three run home run to Adell, giving the Angels the 3-2 lead going to the bottom of the sixth.

Kansas City was retired in order in the bottom of the sixth, but in the bottom of the seventh tied up the game on back to back doubles with one out.&nbsp; Salvador Perez reached second safely, a call which was challenged by the Angels and was upheld, and was pinch run for by Tyler Tolbert, who scored on a double by Adam Frazier to knot the game up at 3-3 going into the eighth.

In the eighth though, it was Adell again giving Los Angeles the lead.&nbsp; With one out Moncada doubled off reliever Lucas Erceg, then moved to third on a flyout by Ward, before Adell beat out an infield single to Bobby Witt Jr who couldn't field the ball cleanly, giving the Angels the 4-3 lead.&nbsp; &nbsp;The Royals got Isbel to second base in the bottom of the eighth, but Witt Jr and Vinnie Pasquantino struck out to end the inning, before Kansas City went 1-2-3 in the ninth.&nbsp;

Erceg fell to 6-4 with the loss pitching one inning and giving up two hits and one run with one walk and one strikeout.&nbsp; Bergert pitched five innings in the no decision giving up one hit and one run with six strikeouts and three walks.&nbsp; At the plate, Massey was 2-for-3 with a run scored.&nbsp; Frazier was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Royals had just four hits.

Royals spoil another solid start from Bergert falling to Angels 4-3

The St. Louis Cardinals bounced back from a series opening loss to the Athletics, winning the next two games to take the series at Busch Stadium, winning 5-1 in the finale on Wednesday night over the A's before an off day on Thursday.&nbsp;

Willson Contreras opened the scoring in the third inning for the Cardinals.&nbsp; With two outs and runners on first and second, Contreras singled into right field, driving in both Masyn Winn and&nbsp;Iván Herrera, Contreras though would be thrown out trying to advance to second by the right fielder Brent Rooker to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Nolan Gorman gave St. Louis some insurance, hitting a solo home run for his 14th of the season.&nbsp; But in the eighth inning, the A's got on the scoreboard getting that run back with a solo home run of their own from rookie Nick Kurtz, hitting his 28th home run of the season.

The Cardinals extended their lead more in the bottom of the eighth inning on a triple by Contreras.&nbsp; After Masyn Winn walked, and advanced to second on a groundout by Herrera, the A's intentionally walked Tyler Ferguson before both scored on Contreras's first triple of the season, and his first since 2022 with the Chicago Cubs.

Matthew Liberatore put on a masterful performance on the mound earning the win, improving to 7-11 on the season, pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up no runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.&nbsp; At the plate, Contreras led the way going 3-for-4 with the triple and four RBI's.&nbsp; Gorman was 3-for-3 with the home run and an RBI.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Park Hill graduate and Kansas City native Carter Jensen made his major league debut in front of his hometown crowd, pinch hitting for Randal Grichuk in the ninth inning, as the Kansas City Royals fell to the Los Angeles Angels 5-1 on Tuesday evening at Kauffman Stadium.&nbsp;

Jensen, the clubs number two prospect, was a surprise call up to start September after hitting&nbsp;.288 at Triple A Omaha with 14 home runs and 39 RBIs.&nbsp; On the season overall, after starting the year with Double A Northwest Arkansas, Jensen was batting&nbsp;.290 with 20 home runs and 76 RBI's.&nbsp; In his lone at bat on Tuesday, Jensen struck out to end the game.

Jensen makes hometown debut as Royals fall to Angels 5-1

The St. Louis Cardinals avoided a third loss in a row, defeating the Athletics at Busch Stadium on Tuesday afternoon 2-1, thanks to&nbsp;Iván Herrera homering for a second game in a row.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After Cardinals starter Miles MIkolas retired five of the first six batters he faced, the A's got on the scoreboard in the third inning.&nbsp; JJ Bleday, who homered twice in Monday's game, started the third off with a double, and later scored with one out on a double by rookie Nick Kurtz.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Herrera homer enough to power Cardinals to 2-1 win over A's

 With rosters expanding Monday, the Kansas City Royals had two easy options, bringing back their former top prospect Jac Caglianone, who was on a rehab assignment, and giving pitcher Luinder Avila another opportunity in the bullpen after an efficient scoreless MLB debut just a few weeks ago.

The Royals announced on Sunday night that they anticipated making those moves official Monday. Not much of a surprise. One other name listed in that transaction report though was unexpected, but what he’s done during this season also made it an easy decision for the Royals front office

The Royals called up Carter Jensen, the club’s number two prospect and MLB’s No. 69 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, having his contract selected from Triple-A Omaha ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Los Angeles Angels at Kauffman Stadium.

Jensen, a third-round pick from the 2021 Draft out of Park Hill High School in Kansas City, will now have the opportunity to suit up for his hometown team.

Jensen began 2025 at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, where he struggled into May due to what he believed was a mechanical issue with his swing, where he was pulling the ball instead of staying through it and focusing up the middle. The results once he addressed this issue was a significant increase in production, resulting in a promotion to Triple-A where he continued his tear at the plate.&nbsp; In 43 games with the Storm Chasers, Jensen has crushed 14 homers and 11 doubles to go with a 1.051 OPS.

For Caglianone, his arrival back to the big league club was more expected when the rosters expanded, but his everyday role was expected to diminish.&nbsp; He’s been raking in Triple-A, though, evidenced by a .385 average with five homers and 16 RBIs in 16 games during his rehab assignment.

Top catching prospect Jensen called up as Royals look to make playoff push

 JJ Bleday homered twice and Zack Gelof had a home run among his three hits as the Athletics snapped a three-game skid with an 11-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday afternoon at Busch Stadium on Labor Day.

Bleday hit a two-run shot in the fourth and Gelof followed with a 385-foot shot to right field.&nbsp;Darell Hernaiz doubled to leadoff the sixth inning, and Colby Thomas singled to center field to drive him in to give the Athletics a 4-1 lead, before Bleday hit his second homer of the game and 12th of the season in the sixth inning to extend the Athletics’ lead. It was the second multi-homer game.

Sonny Gray fell to 12-8 on the season allowing seven runs on 10 hits and three walks in six innings for the Cardinals, who lost their second straight after winning three in a row.

Athletics power up for big 11-3 win over Cardinals on Labor Day

Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal kept the Kansas City Royals bats from doing much, and a defensive miscue from center fielder Tyler Tolbert allowed Detroit to pull away on way to a 5-0 shutout at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;

Skubal allowed just four hits across seven innings, two of those hits doubles to Maikel Garcia, and walked two batters while striking out four before handing things off to the bullpen which allowed no more hits over the final two innings.&nbsp;

After Royals starter Michael Wacha retired 11 of the first 13 batters he faced, with one runner on in the fifth inning and one out Zach McKinstry singled and then Jake Rogers hit a deep fly ball to center field that was misplayed by Tolbert and bounced off the base of the wall, allowing Rogers to get to third with a triple, scoring Spencer Torkelson and McKinstry.&nbsp; A double by Colt Keith drove in Rogers, and Keith came around to score on a single by Gleyber Torres.

Daniel Lynch took over in relief and got the final out of the inning.&nbsp; Kansas City held the Tigers off the scoreboard until the eighth inning, when the final run of the game scored on a passed ball by Royals catcher Luke Maile with the bases loaded, Riley Greene coming home to score.

Wacha took the loss, falling to 8-11 on the season, pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up four runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk.&nbsp; At the plate, Garcia was 2-for-4 with two doubles.&nbsp; Michael Massey was 1-for-3, his one hit his first hit off of Skubal in his career.&nbsp;

Defensive miscues, Tigers ace Skubal slow Royals in 5-0 shutout

The Cincinnati Reds snapped the St. Louis Cardinals three game winning streak, while also halting their own five game losing skid, taking the series finale at Great American Ball Park 7-4 on Sunday morning.&nbsp;

The Cardinals took the lead in the first inning, back to back singles by Lars Nootbaar and&nbsp;Iván Herrera opening the game, before Nootbaar later scored on a sacrifice fly by Nolan Gorman.&nbsp; An RBI single from Thomas Saggese scored Herrera to extend the St. Louis lead to 2-0 at the end of the first inning.&nbsp;

In the second inning, after Gavin Lux reached on a fielding error and Spencer Steer walked, an RBI single by Ke'Bryan Hayes cut the Cardinals lead to one as the Reds got onto the scoreboard.&nbsp; With two outs and the bases loaded, after Matt McLain walked, TJ Friedl singled driving in Steer and Hayes to give Cincinnati a 3-2 lead.&nbsp;

St. Louis knotted the game back up though in the third inning after Nootbaar led the inning off with a triple, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Herrera.&nbsp; Nootbaar was ruled safe at the plate after a challenge, his foot touching the plate just ahead of a nearly perfect throw home by right fielder&nbsp;Noelvi Marte.

In the fifth inning the Reds took the lead back with Elly De La Cruz leading the inning off with a double, and then scoring on a two run home run by Austin Hays.&nbsp; In the seventh, Jimmy Crooks led off the inning for the Cardinals with his first major league home run, but in the bottom half Cincinnati got the run back on an RBI single by Hayes, scoring Hays.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, McLain led off the inning with a solo home run for the final run of the game.&nbsp;

Andre Pallante took the loss for the Cardinals, falling to 6-13 on the season, giving up five runs, two earned, on six hits through five innings while walking four and striking out six.&nbsp; At the plate, Nootbaar was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.&nbsp; Crooks was 1-for-4 with the home run and an RBI.&nbsp; St. Louis batters struck out 15 times against Reds pitchers, with former Royal Brady Singer getting eight strkeouts as the Reds starter.

Reds snap Cardinals three game win streak with 7-4 win in finale

Last second Augustana touchdown downs MoWest in season opener

The Missouri Western State University Griffons lost a back-and-forth, non-conference battle at No. 23 Augustana, as the Vikings threw the game-winning touchdown with 10 seconds left for a&nbsp;30-26 victory.

MoWest struck first in the opening quarter when quarterback Kane Donovan connected with Bryce Marcus III on a 44-yard pass, however the extra point attempt hit the right goalpost.&nbsp; Augustana quickly responded with a seven-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-6 lead.

The Vikings forced a safety on the following Griffons drive, as Donovan was sacked in the endzone, extending the Vikings' advantage.&nbsp; The second quarter, however, belonged to the Griffons. Early in the period, kicker Mason Grove drilled a 47-yard field goal to tie the game at 9-9 with 10:15 left in the half.

The Vikings put together an eight-play, 77-yard drive that reached the MoWest one-yard line,  but the Griffon defense came up big with a stop, forcing a turnover-on-downs.&nbsp; Later, Donovan struck again leading a 99-yard drive, this time hitting Michael Haggerty for a 19-yard touchdown to swing momentum back to the Griffons. Spencer Sprenger's extra-point capped off a 10-point quarter for the Griffons, giving them a 16-9 lead at halftime.

MoWest's opening drive to start the second half extended the lead to double digits, as Sprenger hit a 23-yard field goal.&nbsp;The Vikings responded with a run of 14 unanswered points, taking a 23-19 lead over MoWest early in the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Augustana lined up for a field goal attempt with 6:32 left in the fourth, but senior Grant Finley came up with a block, and Logan Clark returned it 54 yards to set up the drive.&nbsp; In quick work, running back Rickie Dunn carried the ball three straight times, punching it in for the score from five yards out to put the Griffons ahead 26-23 with 5:01 left in the fourth.

The Griffons were later forced into a three-and-out and had to punt, leaving 1:44 on the clock for the Vikings, giving Augustana a chance for a game-winning drive, which they seized with a 10-yard touchdown pass to take a 30-26 lead with 10 seconds left.

Donovan completed 15-of-27 for 226 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Marcus III was the top target, collecting two passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. Haggerty finished with 27 yards on two receptions and a touchdown.

MoWest (0-1) will have an early bye week on September 6 before returning for its home opener at Spratt Stadium against Missouri S&amp;T on September 13.

#4 Ravens top #3 Morningside in Top 25 clash in Atchison to open season

It what could easily be considered and championship-level game in a season opener, No. 4 Benedictine Football took the series lead over No. 3 Morningside University with a 38-34 win.

Benedictine opened the scoring on their first possession. Xavier Ugorji scored on a 24-yard rush, followed by a Christian Klobe point after to stake the Ravens to an early lead. Morningside followed with a pair of touchdowns, a 35-yard pass from Zack Chevalier to Drew Sellon and a 20-yard rush by Jaylen Burch, to take a 14-7 lead.

It took Benedictine just nine seconds in the second quarter to tie the game. Kameron Dover caught a 59-yard pass from Jackson Dooley to pull the Ravens even early in the quarter.&nbsp;Klobe capped off the scoring in the first half with a 43-yard field goal as the Ravens shutout the Mustangs to take a 17-14 lead into halftime.

The third quarter started with the two teams trading long touchdown plays. Morningside regained the lead with a 49-yard screen pass inside the first two minutes. On the Ravens first play from scrimmage, Dooley connected with Titan Osburn who took off down the Morningside sideline for a 70-yard touchdown reception 21 seconds after Morningside scored.

The Mustangs did regain the lead, a 17 yd pass from Chevalier to Sellon, but the point after failed to pull back ahead by three points, 27-24. They held the Ravens in check to keep the lead until Benedictine picked off Chevalier for the second time with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. Isaiah Hasten returned his interception for 34 yards to set the Ravens offense up for their next touchdown. Dooley hit Joseph Lagafuaina for an eight yard touchdown to put Benedictine back in front 31-27 with just over one minute left in the third.

Morningside took back the lead on a six yard rushing touchdown by&nbsp;Chevalier with 6:39 left in the game and forced Benedictine to punt on their next possession. The Ravens defense held the Mustang to a three and out, getting the ball back at their own 22 with 3:30 left in the game, setting up their final drive eventually capping off a 13-play, 79-yard drive with a Dooley keeper to take a 38-34 lead that proved to be the game-winning touchdown.

Dooley finished with 280 yards on 20 of 37 passing with 3 touchdowns. Ugorji led the Ravens rushing with 91 yards on 14 carries while Dalton Witherspoon added 58 yards on 10 carries. Osburn led the Raven receivers with 93 yards and a touchdown on three catches.

The Ravens (1-0) will hit the road for Week 1 of the regular season, taking on defending NAIA Champs, and No. 1-ranked Grand View University, in Des Moines, Iowa, Saturday at 12.&nbsp;

Jalon Daniels airs it out as Kansas dominates Wagner in Friday clash

 Jalon Daniels threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns despite playing just one drive in the second half and Kansas defeated Wagner 46-7 as the Jayhawks opened their season with a second straight win.

The Kansas defense held Wagner to 18 yards of offense in the first quarter and built a 14-0 lead on the strength of two Daniels touchdown passes. Daniels found DeShawn Hanika uncovered for a four-yard scoring strike to cap off KU's first drive, which covered 50 yards in six plays. Two drives later, Daniels hit Emmanuel Henderson on a nine-yard slant route to put the Jayhawks up 14-0 with 3:12 to play in the first quarter. 

Daniels threw his third touchdown pass of the contest on the Jayhawks next drive, finding Cam Pickett wide open across the middle for a 20-yard score to go up 22-0 early in the second quarter after Carson Bruhn ran in the two-point conversion.&nbsp; Daniel Hishaw scored his first touchdown of the season with a 20-yard run that put the Jayhawks up 29-0 with 5:19 to play in the half.

Wagner got on the board with a 45-yard touchdown pass on the next drive, cutting KU's lead to 29-7 at halftime. 

The Jayhawks struck again early in the third quarter, needing just two plays to cover 75 yards as Daniels connected on a deep ball to Henderson for a 62-yard score to go up 36-7 less than a minute into the half. Laith Marjan added a 27-yard field goal later in the third to give Kansas a 39-7 advantage at the end of three.

Kansas added their final score in the fourth quarter as Harry Stewart III scored his first career touchdown from one yard out.

Henderson hauled in six of Daniels' passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns for Kansas (2-0). Daniel Hishaw rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown, all in the first half.

Kansas outgained Wagner 623-143, including 285-53 on the ground and 346-90 through the air. The Jayhawks had 32 first downs, compared to just six for Wagner.

Kansas (2-0) returns to action on Saturday as the Jayhawks travel to Columbia to take on Missouri (1-0) at 2:30.&nbsp; Pregame will air at 1:30pm on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).

The game reignites one of the oldest rivalries in college football, dating back to 1891, and was last played in 2011.

Late score helps lift Kansas State past North Dakota

Avery Johnson engineered an 81-yard drive and threw a six yard touchdown pass to running back Joe Jackson with 42 seconds remaining, and the Kansas State Wildcats held off first-time starting quarterback Jerry Kaminski and North Dakota for a 38-35 nail-biting victory at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

After both teams went three and out on their opening possessions, Kansas State had to convert twice on 4th-and-1 to get into the red zone on their second. Both of those conversions went for big gains, the second being a 38-yard completion from Johnson to Will Swanson. Stuck on 4th down again, K-State had to settle for a 30-yard field goal from Luis Rodriguez.

The Wildcat defense promptly gave up plays of 12, 27, and 35 yards, setting up 1st-and-goal at the one yard line. North Dakota's Grant Tylutki fumbled into the end zone, but Kaminski recovered in the end zone to take the lead.&nbsp; Johnson responded with a 44-yard touchdown to Jayce Brown on the next drive to give Kansas State the lead back.

Later in the game, the Hawks exploded for 82 yards, getting to the Wildcat one yard line.&nbsp; On the next two plays Kaminski completed passes at the line of scrimmage which resulted in no yardage, setting up 3rd-and-goal. Kaminski eventually kept the ball himself from the pistol to retake the lead.

The Wildcats took the lead back thanks to a very smart decision on Johnson’s part to throw on a scramble for a first down instead of running with it himself.&nbsp; Johnson fired a 30-yard pass to Jaron Tibbs that was tipped and almost intercepted, but Tibbs kept his eye on the ball and snagged it for the go-ahead score.

Near the end of the first half, a 16 yard touchdown rush by Sawyer Seidl, gave North Dakota a 21-17 lead that they carried into the halftime break, and would also come out receiving the second half kickoff.&nbsp; However, the Wildcats forced a&nbsp; three and out to open the third quarter, and then methodically marched downfield. ending with DeVon Rice running in on the outside for a nine yard score to get Kansas State back on top.&nbsp;

After the Wildcats defense forced another three and out, eight plays later, Rice plunged up the middle for 13 yards and another touchdown, giving Kansas State a 31-21 lead.&nbsp;

A punt opened the fourth quarter, and North Dakota put together some second-half offense. After converting on 4th-and-8, Kaminski hit Korey Tai for a 22-yard score to make it 31-28, and after the Cats went three and out, a pass interference call on Zashon Rich on a deep ball gave North Dakota the ball at the 30, and three plays later Seidl ran it in from 20 yards out, giving the Hawks a 35-31 lead with 4:19 to go in the game.

Late in the game, Johnson rambled free for a 25-yard gain, and then tossed to Jackson who scored from six yards out on the following play. With 42 seconds left, K-State had the lead again scoring the final points they would need.&nbsp; Rich atoned for his earlier pass interference with a brilliant breakup over the middle as the Wildcat defense forced 4th-and-10 from the Hawks 47 with 11 seconds to go. Kaminski’s last-gasp pass to Dennis was long, and Kansas State survived, somehow.

Johnson went 28-43 for 318 with three touchdowns and no interceptions, plus 43 yards on the ground. Jackson ran 11 times for 55 yards, while Rice added 40 yards on seven carries. Brown had 109 yards on 12 catches and a touchdown.

Next up,&nbsp;Kansas State (1-1) hosts Army (0-1) on Saturday.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at 6pm and the game will air on ESPN.

 </figure>The Missouri Western State University Griffons lost a back-and-forth, non-conference battle at No. 23 Augustana, as the Vikings threw the game-winning touchdown with 10 seconds left for a&nbsp;30-26 victory.MoWest struck first in the opening quarter when quarterback Kane Donovan connected with Bryce Marcus III on a 44-yard pass, however the extra point attempt hit the right goalpost.&nbsp; Augustana quickly responded with a seven-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-6 lead.The Vikings forced a safety on the following Griffons drive, as Donovan was sacked in the endzone, extending the Vikings' advantage.&nbsp; The second quarter, however, belonged to the Griffons. Early in the period, kicker Mason Grove drilled a 47-yard field goal to tie the game at 9-9 with 10:15 left in the half.The Vikings put together an eight-play, 77-yard drive that reached the MoWest one-yard line, but the Griffon defense came up big with a stop, forcing a turnover-on-downs.&nbsp; Later, Donovan struck again leading a 99-yard drive, this time hitting Michael Haggerty for a 19-yard touchdown to swing momentum back to the Griffons. Xavier Ugorji scored on a 24-yard rush, followed by a Christian Klobe point after to stake the Ravens to an early lead. Morningside followed with a pair of touchdowns, a 35-yard pass from Zack Chevalier to Drew Sellon and a 20-yard rush by Jaylen Burch, to take a 14-7 lead.It took Benedictine just nine seconds in the second quarter to tie the game. Kameron Dover caught a 59-yard pass from Jackson Dooley to pull the Ravens even early in the quarter.&nbsp;Klobe capped off the scoring in the first half with a 43-yard field goal as the Ravens shutout the Mustangs to take a 17-14 lead into halftime.The third quarter started with the two teams trading long touchdown plays. Morningside regained the lead with a 49-yard screen pass inside the first two minutes. On the Ravens first play from scrimmage, Dooley connected with Titan Osburn who took off down the Morningside sideline for a 70-yard touchdown reception 21 seconds after Morningside scored.The Mustangs did regain the lead, a 17 yd pass from Chevalier to Sellon, but the point after failed to pull back ahead by three points, 27-24. They held the Ravens in check to keep the lead until Benedictine picked off Chevalier for the second time with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. Isaiah Hasten returned his interception for 34 yards to set the Ravens offense up for their next touchdown.
