The St. Louis Cardinals continued to slide down the National League Central standings, dropping a divisional series with the Milwaukee Brewers with a 3-2 loss on Sunday afternoon on the road.&nbsp;

The Cardinals opened the scoring first in the top of the fourth inning, Brendan Donovan scoring on a groundout by Willson Contreras.&nbsp; But in the bottom half of the inning, the Brewers took the lead, first tying the game on a leadoff home run by Christian Yelich, before later in the inning getting the lead on a sacrifice fly by Drew Avans bringing home Rhys Hoskins for the 2-1 lead.&nbsp;

A groundout by Sal Frelick in the seventh inning drove in Caleb Durbin for the final run the Brewers needed in the game.&nbsp; The Cardinals did try to rally back, getting a solo home run by&nbsp;Iván Herrera in the eighth inning.&nbsp; Alec Burleson followed the home run with a ground rule double, but the inning ended on a strike out by Contreras.&nbsp; In the ninth, St. Louis got back to back singles by Nolan Arenado and Nolan Gorman, but then Jordan Walker, Victor Scott, and Masyn Winn all struck out to end the game.&nbsp;

Miles Mikolas took the loss, falling to 4-4 on the season, pitching six innings and giving up two runs on six hits, striking out seven and walkign one.&nbsp; At the plate, Herrera was 2-for-4 with the home run.&nbsp; Donovan and Gorman were also 2-for-4.&nbsp;

Cardinals drop NL Central series with Brewers in 3-2 loss

Following Saturday's loss to the Athletics, the locker room of the Kansas City Royals stayed closed as the players held a players only meeting, having a moment to say that things needed to change and they needed to play better.&nbsp;

Despite that meeting, the Royals fell to the Athletics 3-2 on Sunday afternoon, making the team whose temporary home is in Sacramento, California the only team besides the New York Yankees to sweep the Royals, moving the Kansas City losing streak to six games.&nbsp;

The loss was to no fault of St. Joseph's Noah Cameron, who started the game and bounced back from a rough start to the Yankees, pitching five shutout innings, giving up four hits and walking one while striking out seven batters, lowering his ERA back below 2.00 to 1.91.&nbsp;

Cameron left the game with a 2-0 lead, which the Royals gave him in the third inning.&nbsp; Kyle Isbel led the inning off with a double, and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Maikel Garcia before scoring on a double by Bobby Witt Jr, who snapped a streak of four hitless games.&nbsp; Witt Jr moved to third on a balk by A's starter Jeffrey Springs, and then scored on a single by Vinnie Pasquantino.

Cameron though, ended up with a no decision, after being replaced by John Schreiber in the sixth inning.&nbsp; Schreiber gave up a single to Jacob Wilson but got Brent Rooker to line out to right field for the first out.&nbsp; In the next at bat though, Austin Wynns hit his fifth home run of the season to right field, driving in Wilson, to tie up up the game.

The game remained tied until the ninth inning after shutdown efforts by Angel Zerpa and Lucas Erceg from the bullpen before&nbsp;Carlos Estévez was called on in the ninth.&nbsp;&nbsp;Estévez surrendered a leadoff home run to rookie Nick Kurtz, giving the A's the 3-2 lead.&nbsp; After getting out of the inning, the Royals pinch hit Drew Waters, who got on first with a single, but could not push him across with three straight outs following the hit to end the game.&nbsp;

With his five shutout innings, Cameron became the first pitcher in MLB history to record at least five innings pitched and allow no more than one run in six of his first seven career games.&nbsp; The previous record was five, done by 13 others, including Christy Mathewson and Kerry Wood.

With the loss, Estévez falls to 2-2 on the year, pitching one inning giving up the one hit, walking one and striking out one.&nbsp; At the plate, Witt Jr was 2-for-4 with an RBI.&nbsp; Pasquantino was also 2-for-4 with an RBI while Freddy Fermin was 2-for-3.

Despite player's coming together for looking for change, Royals fall 3-2 to A's 

The St. Louis Cardinals battled hard to snap a losing skid, but came up short against the Milwaukee Brewers, losing 3-2 on Friday evening as their losing streak moved to six games and the Redbirds fell another game behind the Brew Crew in the NL Central standings.&nbsp;

The Brewers opened the scoring in the fourth inning.&nbsp; Sal Frelick singled to open the inning and after Jackson Chourio flew out to center field, William Contreras, the brother of Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras, doubled to score Frelick.&nbsp; The Cardinals tied the game up in the fifth inning on back to back doubles by Alec Burleson and Nolan Arenado.

Milwaukee retook the lead in the sixth inning, Contreras driving in another run on a sacrifice fly that scored Frelick who had singled to open the inning.&nbsp; Christian Yelich reached first on a fielders choice as Nolan Gorman attempted to throw Chourio out at home, but failed as the Brewers extended their lead 3-1.&nbsp;

In the ninth inning, the Cardinals set themselves up to tie the game after Gorman doubled and was driven in on a single by Victor Scott II.&nbsp; Scott stole second base with two outs, but with the tying run in scoring position, Lars Nootbaar struck out for the fourth time in the game, ending the rally and the game.&nbsp;

Erick Fedde took the loss, falling to 3-6 on the season, pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up three runs on four hits, striking out five and walking one.&nbsp; At the plate, Burleson led the way going 2-for-4 with a run scored.&nbsp; Scott was 1-for-1 with the RBI after coming in as a defensive replacement in the seventh, while Arenado was 1-for-4 with the double and an RBI.

St. Louis hopes to end their losing streak as they continue their series with Milwaukee on Saturday.&nbsp;&nbsp;Andre Pallante (4-3, 4.75 ERA) takes the mound for the Cardinals against&nbsp;Jose Quintana (4-1, 2.66 ERA) for the Brewers.&nbsp; First pitch is at 3:10pm, pregame will be joined at 3 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).

Cardinals fall to Brewers 3-2 moving losing skid to six games

The Kansas City Royals started to rally back, but fell short in the final inning against the Athletics, losing 6-4 on Friday evening at Kauffman Stadium on the day the Royals enshrined left fielder Alex Gordon into the Royals Hall of Fame.&nbsp;

With a pine tar stripe across their names, like the pine tar that adorned the back of Gordon most games, the Royals took the field following a ceremony for the eight time gold glover who spent his entire career in Kansas City.&nbsp; And the Royals opened the game with the lead, scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Salvador Perez doubled to drive in Maikel Garcia.&nbsp;

Austin Wynns though hit a solo home run in the second inning, tying up the game, and the Athletics went on to take the lead in the third inning on a single by rookie Nick Kurtz, scoring Jacob Wilson for the go ahead run.&nbsp; A third straight run scored in the fourth inning to extend the lead on another solo home run, this time by&nbsp;Luis Urías.&nbsp;

Holding the 3-1 lead, the Athletics pushed ahead even more in the sixth inning scoring their final three runs of the game.&nbsp; With the bases loaded, reliever Steven Cruz walked Tyler Soderstrom to score Denzel Clarke and in the next at bat surrendered a two run single to Max Muncy, bringing home Lawrence Butler and Wilson.&nbsp;

The Royals did start to rally back in the final inning.&nbsp; Back to back walks to Perez and Jac Caglianone opened the inning and Nick Loftin drove both in with his second triple of the season.&nbsp; Loftin scored on a sacrifice fly by John Rave for the final run, before Kyle Isbel struck out and Drew Waters popped out to end the game.&nbsp;

Royals fall to Athletics 6-4 as team enshrines 'Gordo' into Royals Hall of Fame

The St. Joseph Mustangs continued their unbeaten run in the MINK League with their third run rule victory of the season, beating the Carroll Merchants 10-0 in eight innings on Friday night at Phil Welch Stadium.&nbsp;

The Mustangs blew open the scoring right away in the first inning as Darius Freeman doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch.&nbsp; After Lafayette alum Brayden Luikart walked, Freeman came home to score on a passed ball for the opening run, with Luikart advancing to second base.&nbsp; A single by Benton alum Chris Coy drove in Luikart and in the very next at bat Coy scored on a single by&nbsp;Easton Phillipe putting St. Joseph up 3-0 after one inning.&nbsp;

Tyler Gundelfinger extended the lead in the second inning with his first home run of the season.&nbsp; In the fourth inning, Gundelfinger added another run scoring on a wild pitch, with Logan Miller moving to third base after he singled.&nbsp; Miller scored later in the inning on a fielders choice as Luikart reached first safely and Darius Freeman was out at second, pushing the Mustangs lead to 6-0.&nbsp;

Gundelfinger drove in another run in the fifth inning, an unearned run scoring Justin George after George reached on a throwing error.&nbsp; A sacrifice fly by Freeman drove in Lafayette alum Jayden Little for another unearned run.&nbsp; In the eighth inning, Freeman scored on a wild pitch as Dom Felix walked, moving Luikart to third.&nbsp; Coy walked the game off in the eighth with an RBI single driving in Luikart.&nbsp;

Gundelfinger was 3-for-3 with the home run and two RBI's and a walk, also stealing two bases, in the win.&nbsp; Coy was 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a walk while Freeman was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a walk, and two runs scored.&nbsp; Aron Harrington earned the win pitching five innings and giving up two hits while striking out six and walking one.&nbsp; East Buchanan alum Bronco Whitt threw one inning of relief and gave up one hit and struck out one.&nbsp;

The Mustangs are now 10-1, 6-0 in MINK League play.&nbsp; They have one more game at home tomorrow, before a four game road trip, taking on the Sedalia Bombers at Phil Welch Stadium. First pitch at 7pm, gates open at 5:30.&nbsp;

 </figure>By MATT PIKEThe St. Joseph Mustangs continued their unbeaten run in the MINK League with their third run rule victory of the season, beating the Carroll Merchants 10-0 in eight innings on Friday night at Phil Welch Stadium.&nbsp;The Mustangs blew open the scoring right away in the first inning as Darius Freeman doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch.&nbsp; After Lafayette alum Brayden Luikart walked, Freeman came home to score on a passed ball for the opening run, with Luikart advancing to second base.&nbsp; A single by Benton alum Chris Coy drove in Luikart and in the very next at bat Coy scored on a single by&nbsp;Easton Phillipe putting St. Joseph up 3-0 after one inning.&nbsp;Tyler Gundelfinger extended the lead in the second inning with his first home run of the season.&nbsp; In the fourth inning, Gundelfinger added another run scoring on a wild pitch, with Logan Miller moving to third base after he singled.&nbsp; Miller scored later in the inning on a fielders choice as Luikart reached first safely and Darius Freeman was out at second, pushing the Mustangs lead to 6-0.&nbsp;Gundelfinger drove in another run in the fifth inning, an unearned run scoring Justin George after George reached on a throwing error.&nbsp; A sacrifice fly by Freeman drove in Lafayette alum Jayden Little for another unearned run.&nbsp; In the eighth inning, Freeman scored on a wild pitch as Dom Felix walked, moving Luikart to third.&nbsp; Coy walked the game off in the eighth with an RBI single driving in Luikart.&nbsp;Gundelfinger was 3-for-3 with the home run and two RBI's and a walk, also stealing two bases, in the win.&nbsp; Coy was 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a walk while Freeman was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a walk, and two runs scored.&nbsp; Aron Harrington earned the win pitching five innings and giving up two hits while striking out six and walking one.&nbsp; East Buchanan alum Bronco Whitt threw one inning of relief and gave up one hit and struck out one.&nbsp;The Mustangs are now 10-1, 6-0 in MINK League play.&nbsp; They have one more game at home tomorrow, before a four game road trip, taking on the Sedalia Bombers at Phil Welch Stadium. The St. Joseph Mustangs avenged their lone loss of the season to the Kansas City Monarchs, taking down the Monarchs on Thursday evening at Phil Welch Stadium 10-1 in the third matchup of the season between the two teams.&nbsp;

The Monarchs scored their lone run of the game in the third inning as former Mustang Will Dryburgh singled to right field, scoring Morgan Johann.&nbsp; In the bottom half of the inning was when the Mustangs took the lead, what turned out for good, as Benton alum Chris Coy singled to right driving in Savannah alum Truman Bodenhausen to tie the game, before Coy scored on a single by Jack Mosh for the 2-1 lead.&nbsp;

Three runs scored in the fifth inning, which started with Coy, who walked to open the inning, scored on a balk.&nbsp; In just his second game since joining the team,&nbsp;Easton Phillipe singled to drive in Mosh, and scored himself later in the inning on a single by Tyler Gundelfinger.&nbsp; One more run scored in the sixth inning on a groundout by Trevor McCollum, bringing home Logan Miller to push the lead to 6-1.&nbsp;

St. Joseph continued their scoring run in the seventh inning, adding another three runs.&nbsp;&nbsp;Phillipe was walked, but on a wild pitch Justin George raced home to score.&nbsp; Phillipe advanced to third base on a single by Gundelfinger, and then scored on a balk, with Gundelfinger moving to second.&nbsp; A groundout by Bodenhausen moved Gundelfinger to third base, and yet another balk brought him home to score, extending the lead to 9-1.&nbsp;

Phillipe drove in the final run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI double, scoring Mosh.&nbsp; In the ninth inning, to close out the game,&nbsp;Max Pitts struck out the side in order.&nbsp;

Phillipe was 2-for-4 at the plate, driving in two runs.&nbsp; Coy and Gundelfinger were also 2-for-4 batting, each driving in one run.&nbsp; On the mound,&nbsp;Michael Infranca earned the win, pitching two innings of relief giving up one hit.&nbsp; East Buchanan alum, and recent transfer to Northwest Missouri State University, Gage Busby pitched two innings and struck out two, walking one.

Mustangs avenge loss to Monarchs with big 10-1 win 

The St. Louis Cardinals losing skid moved to five games as the Milwaukee Brewers top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski put on a showcase in his major league debut, helping the Brew Crew drop the Redbirds 6-0 on Thursday evening.&nbsp;

Misiorowski pitched just five innings, but gave up no hits to the Cardinals in that span, walking four and striking out five.&nbsp; Misirowski did take the mound in the sixth inning, but after three pitches to Victor Scott II, leading to a 3-0 count, the Brewers number four prospect rolled his ankle on the mound and was pulled from the game by trainers and replaced by&nbsp;&nbsp;Nick Mears.

The young pitcher did leave the game with the lead however.&nbsp; The Brewers opened the scoring in the second inning, a single by&nbsp;Brice Turang driving in Isaac Collins, before extending the lead even more in the fifth inning putting up their final five runs.

Joey Ortiz doubled to score&nbsp;Turang who singled earlier in the inning.&nbsp; A single by Sal Frelick drove in two more runs as Caleb Durbin, who also singled earlier, and Ortiz came home, before the final two runs scored on a two run home run by&nbsp;Jackson Chourio to center field, giving the Brewers the 6-0 lead.&nbsp;

Cards drop fifth straight losing 6-0 as Brewers Misiorowski shines in debut

The Kansas City Royals contained the New York Yankees explosive offense, but a late throwing error by Lucas Erceg proved costly as the Royals dropped a pitchers duel with the Bronx bombers, losing 1-0 at Kauffman Stadium on Thursday evening.&nbsp;

Both starting pitchers, Seth Lugo for the Royals and Will Warren for the Yankees, pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up minimal hits, Lugo allowing just two while Warren allowed four, and also giving up minimal baserunners with Lugo walking three and Warren walking one.&nbsp; Angel Zerpa replaced Lugo in the sixth, but didn't throw a single pitch before the game was delayed by rain.&nbsp;

The delay lasted less than 30 minutes, and Zerpa returned to the mound, pitching 1 1/3 innings of relief giving up no hits and striking out two before he was replaced by Erceg in the eighth inning.&nbsp; Erceg surrendered a single to Pablo Reyes, who advanced to second on a groundout by Trent Grisham.&nbsp; After Ben Rice walked, Paul Goldschmidt hit a single, which Vinnie Pasquantino could not field cleanly and get to Erceg in time, as Erceg turned to see Reyes stranded between third and home, he gunned the ball to Freddy Fermin who could not field it cleanly, allowing Reyes to score.&nbsp;

Royals drop pitchers duel 1-0 to Yankees, swept in season series

A former Missouri Western women's lacrosse player is hoping to help grow the game locally by launching a new program. 

A record holding goalkeeper at Western, Mackenzie Porter is hoping to teach more young girls about the sport she's played since second grade. 

Porter is launching Mighty Mo Lacrosse, a girls youth lacrosse clinic-based program here in St. Joseph.

Porter hopes with this program she can help grow the game, and bring more awareness

"Showing people like hey this is here, and I think once young girl see that the sport exists, then it's going to start to draw people more to Missouri Western and Missouri Western lacrosse," Porter tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.

Porter says the game helps girls build community by playing on a team, and says while there are several other youth sports

"Something different, especially here that people don't even know exists and finding like maybe girls can find their community within this sport and it can become a love for them just like it was for me, it was an escape," Porter explains.

Porter says she felt something special while she played the game

"A part of something bigger I guess, because I was a part of a team," Porter says.

The program is still in its early stages.  Porter says currently she is working to gauge interest from people and raise funds, with hopes of starting clinics later this summer. 

"I know it's soon, because we're in the midst of summer right now, but I truly believe with community engagement and just sharing this initiative and getting people to hop on board, I think we can make it happen," Porter says.

Porter says she also hopes to get some of her former teammates from Missouri Western involved to help with the future clinics when they begin.

For a second consecutive night, the New York Yankees got to a pitcher in the Royals starting rotation who was having a stellar start to his season, as New York won 6-3 at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday evening.&nbsp;

With the loss, the Royals are now 0-5 against the Yankees on the season, after losing all three games in the Bronx April 14-16th.&nbsp; New York remains the only team this season that has swept Kansas City, and has another shot at doing it tomorrow on their home turf.&nbsp;

With Kris Bubic on the mound for the Royals for the first time since June 1st against Detroit, it didn't look like he missed a beat through the first inning, going 1-2-3, but in the second inning the Yankees lineup got to the left hander for five runs to take a big lead early in the game.&nbsp;

After Cody Bellinger led off the inning with a triple and Jazz Chisolm Jr walked, Anthony Volpe grounded into a force out with Bellinger scoring while Chisolm was out at second.&nbsp; Trent Grisham grounded out for a second out, but then DJ LeMahieu walked and Austin Wells doubled, bringing home Volpe, before both LeMahieu and Wells scored on a single by Paul Goldschmidt, who moved to second on a throw home.&nbsp; Goldschmidt scored the final run of the inning on a single by Ben Rice.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The St. Joseph Mustangs continued their unbeaten run in MINK league play, beating the Chillicothe Mudcats on Wednesday evening 8-3 at Phil Welch Stadium.&nbsp;

The Mustangs fell behind first though, with the Mudcats opening the scoring in the second inning,&nbsp;Derin Douchet hitting a single to third base and scoring&nbsp;Tanner Sears.&nbsp; St. Joseph took the lead in the next inning, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning.&nbsp;

Savannah alum Truman Bodenhausen tied up the game with an RBI single into right field, scoring Lafayette alum Jayden Little and advancing Tyler Gundelfinger to third base.&nbsp; Gundelfinger scored on a double by Darius Freeman, and then the lead extended on a groundout by another Lafayette alum Brayden Luikart, driving in Bodenhausen.&nbsp; Jack Mosh drove in the final run of the frame with a double, bringing home Freeman for the 4-1 lead.&nbsp;

The Mustangs added one more run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Dom Felix, driving in Freeman, before the Mudcats added one more run the next inning.&nbsp; A groundout by&nbsp;John Spoto scored&nbsp;J. Pinkknee, St. Joseph again answered Chillicothe's run with a multi run inning, scoring three runs in the seventh inning.&nbsp;

A single by Luikart drove in Freeman, then with the bases loaded Trevor McCollum was hit by a pitch and Luikart would come in to score the second run of the inning.&nbsp; The bases still juiced, Mosh scored on a wild pitch by&nbsp;Ryotaro Hirayana.&nbsp; Trailing 8-2, the Mudcats scored their final run in the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly by&nbsp;Rafael Calcano, driving in pinch runner&nbsp;Fradnie Fernandez.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Landon Reith pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up one run on four hits and striking out seven, while walking one to earn the win.&nbsp; Benton alum Chris Coy pitched a scoreless inning of relief, striking out one and walking one.&nbsp; At the plate, Mosh led the way going 3-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored, walking once and hitting a double.&nbsp; Luikart was 2-for-5 with two RBI's and a stolen base.&nbsp;

The Mustangs are now 8-1 on the season, and are 5-0 in MINK League play.&nbsp; St. Joseph stays at Phil Welch Stadium on Thursday for a matchup once again with the KC Monarchs, their third matchup of the year.&nbsp; First pitch at 6:30pm, gates open at 5:15.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The St. Louis Cardinals won't be heading into a National League Central clash on the road with momentum, after being swept by the Toronto Blue Jays at home, falling 5-2 in the series finale Wednesday afternoon.&nbsp;

The Cardinals did open the scoring in the game, and held the lead through the first two innings.&nbsp; Willson Contreras singled in the first inning to drive in Masyn Winn, who had singled earlier in the inning, to open the scoring.&nbsp; St. Louis extended the lead, and scored their final run, in the second inning on a solo home run by Yohel Pozo.

The Blue Jays tied up the game in the third inning though, first cutting the lead in half on a single by Bo Bichette that drove in&nbsp;Tyler Heineman.&nbsp; A sacrifice fly by George Springer later in the inning scored&nbsp;Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for the tying run.&nbsp; &nbsp;In the fourth inning, Bichette's sacrifice fly brought home&nbsp;Myles Straw for the go ahead run, and the lead was extended in the following at bat on a single by Guerrero Jr, scoring&nbsp;Jonatan Clase.

Toronto scored their final run in the fifth inning on a solo home run by&nbsp;Ernie Clement off of Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore, his fourth home run of the season.

Liberatore took the loss, falling to 3-6 on the season, pitching five innings and giving up all five runs, just three earned, on eight hits while striking out four and walking one.&nbsp; At the plate, Contreras was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Victor Scott II was 2-for-4.&nbsp; Three other Cardinals managed just one hit a piece, including Pozo with the solo home run who was 1-for-4.

St. Louis will now hit the road and travel to Milwaukee for a National League Central clash with the Brewers.&nbsp; Sonny Gray (7-1, 3.35 ERA) takes the mound for the Cardinals against the Brewers top top pitching prospect, and #4 overall prospect, making his major league debut in&nbsp;Jacob Misiorowski.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:40pm, pregame will be joined at 6:30 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).

Cards swept by Jays with 5-2 loss ahead of big NL Central road series

Legendary boxer Rob Calloway will become a new member of the St. Joseph Area Sports Hall of Fame.  

Calloway, known as the All-American Prize Fighter, became the Kansas City Gold Gloves Champion three times.  He also fought many times at St. Joseph's Civic Arena.  

Calloway says he's happy and honored to be a member of the 2025 class in the Hall of Fame.  

"I love St. Joseph, I was the All American Prize Fighter for 20 years, so this is very much a dream come true," Calloway tells reporters.  

Calloway says a lot of work went into his long boxing career, starting all the way back in his amateur fighting days at 19 years old 

"A bit older than most, 40 amateur bouts and the '92 Olympic trials and turned pro in '92 to 2012, so 20 years fighting all over the world, over 20 different states, 10 different countries," Calloway says.  "It takes a lot of hard work, but you've got to love what you're doing, and I loved every minute of training, and I loved every fight I was in." 

Calloway won several titles throughout his career.  He fought 23 of his 92 career matches at Civic Arena, and in those 92 matches, he boasted an outstanding 72-14-2 record with four no contests.  He also won several titles. 

Calloway says there's a lot that stands out to him about his illustrious career 

"I love that I won the world title in the Gold Coast of Australia and it was the fight of the year and it was probably my best fight," Calloway says.  "I also had several fights on ESPN, Showtime, some great fights I was glad the city got to be a part of, I had a great career and I'm glad to be honored now." 

Calloway was one of nine individuals in the class along with one Special Olympian and one team.

Calloway considers St. Joseph Hall of Fame a dream come true

The St. Louis Cardinals battled from behind, but ran out of steam and fell just short of a comeback, losing to the Toronto Blue Jays 10-9 on Tuesday evening at Busch Stadium.&nbsp;

The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the first on one big hit as&nbsp;Andrés Giménez hit a three run home run to right field, scoring&nbsp;Bo Bichette and Alejandro Kirk.&nbsp; Toronto extended that lead to four runs in the fourth inning, an Alan Roden single driving in George Springer.&nbsp; The Cardinals though, tied up the game in the bottom half of the inning.&nbsp;

Brendan Donovan was hit by a pitch to open the inning.&nbsp; After back to back singles by Alec Burleson and Nolan Arenado with one out, Arenado's single driving in Donovan, Nolan Gorman blasted a three run home run, his third home run of the season, to tie up the game at four runs a piece.

The Blue Jays took the lead back the very next inning however, scoring two runs in the fifth inning.&nbsp; Addison Barger's double drove in&nbsp;Jonatan Clase for the go ahead run.&nbsp; A sacrifice fly by Springer extended the lead bringing home Bichette.&nbsp; The lead was pushed even farther by Toronto with another two runs in the seventh inning, both coming on a two run home run by Kirk, which scored Barger, pushing the lead to 8-4.

St. Louis cut into the lead again in the bottom of the eighth inning, thanks to another home run, this time by the other Nolan as Arenado hit a two run home run, driving in Burleson on his eighth home run of the season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Blue Jays managed to get those runs back in the top of the ninth inning.&nbsp;&nbsp;Giménez singled to drive in Bichette and Kirk scored on a wild pitch by reliever Chris Roycroft.&nbsp; But the Cardinals refused to go away, battling back in the bottom half of the inning, thanks to a three run blast by Willson Contreras, scoring&nbsp;Masyn Winn and Iván Herrera.&nbsp; But, with two outs, Burleson grounded out to end the game, giving Blue Jays closer Andrew Hoffman his 17th save.&nbsp;

Miles Mikolas took the loss, falling to 4-3 on the season, pitching five innings and giving up six runs on nine hits, striking out two batters.&nbsp; Arenado led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored.

St. Louis wraps up their series with Toronto tomorrow.&nbsp; Matthew Liberatore (3-5, 3.82 ERA) takes the mound for the Cardinals in the finale against&nbsp;Eric Lauer (2-1, 2.08 ERA) for the Blue Jays.&nbsp; First pitch is at 1:15pm, pregame will be joined at 1:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).

Cards fight but are unable to comback falling 10-9 to Jays

In a tough test against the power hitting lineup of the New York Yankees, St. Joseph's Noah Cameron saw his first rough start at the major league level as the Kansas City Royals fell 10-2 in their series opener at Kauffman Stadium Tuesday evening.&nbsp;

Cameron started the game getting Paul Goldschmidt to ground out, but after walking Trent Grisham suffered at the hands of Aaron Judge, who slugged a two run home run 469 feet to left field, landing on top of the Royals Hall of Fame that gave the Yankees a quick lead.&nbsp; The Royals did cut the lead in half in the second inning, Jac Caglianone grounding out and driving in Vinnie Pasquantino, but afterwards the Royals would not score again until the sixth inning.&nbsp;

Cameron gave up another home run in the fourth inning for the Yankees to extend the lead, a three run home run to Austin Wells that scored&nbsp;Jasson Domínguez and DJ LeMahieu. Cameron left the mound with two outs in the sixth, for his shortest outing since being called, leaving Jazz Chisolm Jr. on second base after he doubled earlier in the inning.&nbsp; Cameron was replaced by Taylor Clarke.&nbsp;

Cameron would wind up charged with one more run, as Clarke allowed Chisolm to score, giving up a double to Wells, who also drove in&nbsp;LeMahieu who was walked by Clarke.&nbsp; &nbsp;Back to back singled by Goldschmidt and Grisham brought home Wells and another single by Judge scored Goldschmidt.&nbsp; Cody Bellinger hit the fourth consecutive single off Clarke to drive in Grisham to cap off the five run inning for New York.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the bottom half of the sixth inning was when the Royals scored their final run, and the final run of the game, when Jonathan India hit a solo home run to center field to lead off the inning.

Cameron fell to 2-2 on the season, pitching 5 2/3 innings and giving up six runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out six.&nbsp; At the plate, Salvador Perez led the way going 2-for-4.&nbsp; India was 1-for-4 with the home run and a walk.&nbsp;

Kansas City and New York continue their series tomorrow.&nbsp; Kris Bubic (5-3, 1.43 ERA) takes the mound for the Royals against Clarke Schmidt (2-3, 4.04 ERA) for the Yankees.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:40pm, pregame coverage will begin at 6 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).

After playing their first seven games of the season at home, the St. Joseph Mustangs hit the road for the first time in 2025, and shutout the Sedalia Bombers 6-0 on Tuesday evening.&nbsp;

After four scoreless innings, the Mustangs opened the scoring in the fifth, Jack Mosh scoring as Savannah alum Truman Bodenhausen reached first on a fielders choice.&nbsp; In the sixth inning, St. Joseph extended the lead with two more runs, a Dom Felix sacrifice fly driving in Darius Freeman before Lafayette alum Brayden Luikart scored on a double by Mosh.&nbsp;

Northwest Missouri State pitcher Jaren Guck threw six scoreless innings, striking out five and walking one while giving up four hits, and was replaced by East Buchanan alum Bronco Whitt, who struck out one and gave up one hit in the seventh inning.&nbsp; In the top of the eighth, the Mustangs added two more runs, Justin George singling and bringing home Mosh and Felix for the 5-0 lead.&nbsp;

Diego De Santiago pitched the bottom of the eighth, striking out two batters.&nbsp; St. Joseph scored the final run in the ninth inning as Luikart singled to drive in Logan Miller.&nbsp;&nbsp;Cade Perkins closed out the game on the mound, striking out one and giving up one hit.&nbsp;

Mustangs win first road game in shutout fashion 6-0 over Sedalia

The St. Louis Cardinals stormed back and took the lead in the eighth inning, but the Toronto Blue Jays tied it in the ninth and scored the go ahead run in the 10th to win in extra innings 5-4 at Busch Stadium on Monday afternoon.&nbsp;

The Blue Jays scored runs in the first two innings, opening up with an RBI double by George Springer, scoring Addison Barger, in the first inning.&nbsp; Bo Bichette singled in the secon inning to drive in Ernie Clement for the second run, pushing the Blue Jays lead to 2-0 early on into the game.&nbsp;

Toronto added another run in the eighth inning on a solo home run by Alejandro Kirk, but in the bottom half of the inning the Cardinals scored four runs to take the lead in the game.&nbsp; St. Louis first got an RBI single by Willson Contreras, driving in Victor Scott II, before&nbsp;Iván Herrera blasted the Cardinals ahead with a three run home run to left field, scoring Masyn Winn and Contreras along with himself, for the 4-3 lead.&nbsp;

In the ninth though, with closer Ryan Helsley on the mound,&nbsp;Jonatan Clase hit his first home run of the season to tie up the game, giving Helsley his fifth blown save of the season and forcing extra innings after St. Louis could not answer in the bottom half.&nbsp; In the tenth, off reliever Phil Maton, Kirk doubled driving in Barger for what would end up being the winning run, dropping Maton to 0-2 on the season.&nbsp;

At the plate, Herrera led the way a the only Cardinal with multiple hits on the day, going 2-for-4 with the home run and three RBI's.&nbsp; Contreras was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cards come back but fall in extras to Blue Jays 5-4

The rivalry between Northwest Missouri State and Pittsburg State will make its way back to Kansas City this fall, this time on the Kansas side of the border.&nbsp;

The Bearcats and Gorillas have met in Kansas City on 13 previous occasions, first from 2002 to 2013 and then again in 2019, at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Seven of those drawing an attendance of at least 20,000 fans.&nbsp; The Bearcats were 10-3 in the matchups at Arrowhead Stadium.&nbsp;

Northwest and Pittsburgh State have signed a two-year contract for 2025 and 2026 to play matchups at Children's Mercy Park . The 2025 match-up was originally scheduled as a Pitt State home game, while the 2026 contest will replace a NWMSU home game.&nbsp; The matchup will take place on November 15th, kicking off at 1:30pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;More information and details will be announced soon.

Children's Mercy Park was home to the NCAA Division II National Championship Game for four seasons, from 2014-2017. Northwest captured the program's fifth and sixth national titles in the venue with a 34-7 victory over Shepherd on Dec. 19, 2015 and a 29-3 triumph over North Alabama on Dec. 17, 2016. The 2015 national title game drew an NCAA Division II Championship Game record 16,181 fans.

Northwest and Pittsburg State rivalry returning to Kansas City this fall

It was gone, but now it's back, Missouri Western State University is reinstating track and field.  

Almost two weeks after saying the program would be discontinued, Missouri Western reversed that decision on Saturday, after receiving support for the program 

Athletic Director Andy Carter says there are still many conversations to have, so he gave no specifics to where that support came from, but Carter says they felt strongly they could go back to what they were doing 

"I mean other than the upheaval of the last 10 days, or whatever it's been, we're going back to what we were doing and going deep into conversations with people about how do we get this facility put in place as quickly as we can," Carter tells reporters.  

Carter says the original decision to discontinue the program had nothing to do with money for other programs 

"It was that we weren't able to provide a facility, which made their experience less than what we wanted to be, and we had tried that for three years and really got to a point where we didn't know where to go and did not want to bring in another class and make them promises that we couldn't keep," Carter explains. 

Carter says with this new information and new support they chose to pivot hard and fast to reinstate the program to help continue providing the best experience for student athletes. 

Part of that includes an actual facility for the program, which Carter says plans are not solid for quite yet.  

"We have enough information to be able to make this decision and then let's see, I mean proof will be in the pudding right as they say, whether we can get that done or not still remains to be seen," Carter says.  "But we feel like we have enough momentum and energy and support to pivot from the decision and get back into this game of seeing if we can get this done." 

Carter also points out that getting a new facility done could help revive the sprinting programs, which had already been discontinued at Western, by developing a track on campus.

MWSU reverses decision on track and field due to anonymous support

The St. Louis Cardinals won the series, but were unable to slow down the high powered offense of the Los Angeles Dodgers to get a sweep, losing 7-3 at Busch Stadium on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;

The Dodgers got to Cardinals rookie pitcher Michael McGreevy early on, scoring three runs in the second inning.&nbsp; Former Cardinal Tommy Edman singled home Max Muncy for the opening score, before scoring himself on a triple by&nbsp;Hyeseong Kim, the first of the season for the Dodgers rookie, also driving in Will Smith.&nbsp; Edman drove in another run in the fourth inning, scoring Smith, with a double to give Los Angeles a 4-0 lead through four innings.&nbsp;

Masyn Winn got the Cardinals on the board in the fifth inning.&nbsp; Back to back singles by Alec Burleson and&nbsp;Pedro Pagés opened the inning before Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw got Jose Barrero to pop out and Lars Nootbaar to strike out.&nbsp; But with two outs, Winn doubled to left field, driving in Burleson for the score.&nbsp;Pagés wound up stranded at third base, and Winn at second base, when Kershaw struck out Brendan Donovan.

A sacrifice fly by Burleson in the sixth inning added another run, scoring Contreras who doubled to open the inning, and had moved to third on a single by&nbsp;Iván Herrera.&nbsp; The Dodgers got that run back in the top of the seventh inning, a solo home run by Mookie Betts.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Contreras cut into the Dodgers lead as the Cardinals scored for a third consecutive inning in the bottom of the seventh.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ryan Vilade walked to start the inning, and after a flyout by Nootbaar and lineout by Winn, moved to third base on a single by Donovan, before scoring on the single by Contreras.&nbsp; &nbsp;

But in the eighth, Los Angeles put the game away getting all the insurance they would need.&nbsp; Edman drove in his third run of the game on a sacrifice fly, scoring&nbsp;Teoscar Hernández with the bases loaded.&nbsp;&nbsp;Enrique Hernández walked to reload the bases, however they would not reload as Muncy scored the final Dodgers run on a passed ball.&nbsp;

McGreevy took the loss, the first loss of his young career after going 3-0 last year, moving to 1-1 this season, pitching six innings and giving up four runs on eight hits, striking out five.&nbsp; Burleson (2-3, 1 RBI, 1 R), Contreras (2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R), Herrera (2-4), and Donovan (2-5) led the way at the plate for St. Louis in the loss.&nbsp;
