St. Joseph's Noah Cameron burst onto the scene last season, and this year will be honored by the Kansas City Royals Triple A affiliate with his first ever bobblehead.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On Wednesday, the Omaha Storm Chasers revealed their promotional schedule for the 2026 season, and on Saturday August 22nd, when the Storm Chasers take on the Rochester Red Wings, the Triple A affiliate for the Washington Nationals, the first 1,000 fans into Werner Park will receive the bobblehead of Cameron, which will most likely be revealed later this season.&nbsp;

The bobblehead giveaway is one of two the Storm Chasers will do this season.&nbsp; The team will also give away a Jac Caglianone bobblehead on Saturday July 18th, also to the first 1,000 fans, when the Storm Chasers face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Triple A affiliate for the Philadelphia Phillies.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Storm Chasers to honor St. Joseph's Noah Cameron with bobblehead night

It may still be cold and frigid, even with temperatures set to warm up this weekend, but the St. Joseph Sports Commission is already looking ahead to September as registration is now open for the fourth annual St. Joseph Marathon.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The St. Joseph Marathon offers five different options, with the full marathon, a half marathon, a 10K, 5K, and a relay team.&nbsp; A virtual marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K is also offered for people to sign up for.

As an added incentive to sign up early and as a thank you for running in previous years, all previous St. Joseph Marathon runners can save 10% percent off their registration by entering the code EARLYBIRD2026 with their registration. Registration open for fourth St. Joseph Marathon

The Joseph Company will host one of the most accomplished coaches in the history of college athletics in St. Joseph next week at Word of Life Church to speak to local leaders. 

Anson Dorrance the longtime head coach of North Carolina Women's Soccer will speak as part of the 3D Institute on February 10th.  Dorrance led the Tar Heels program for more than four decades, leading his teams to 22 NCAA Division I national championships, the most by any head coach in any NCAA Division I team sport. 

While his record is unmatched, his broader influence comes from the way he shaped standards, accountability, and sustained excellence within his teams.

“This is a rare opportunity to learn in person from a coach whose influence reaches far beyond soccer,” said Wes Simmons, President and CEO of 3D Institute and Founder of The Joseph Company Initiative in a news release. “Coach Dorrance’s perspective on competition, culture, and daily habits translates to any environment where people are being coached or led.”

In addition to coaching legendary players such as Mia Hamm and Kristine Lilly, Dorrance is widely respected for his belief that competition, when designed well, is a powerful developmental tool. His ideas continue to shape how leaders think about performance, confidence, and long-term growth across sport, education, business, and community life.

The February 10 event will also serve as the kickoff to the Spring session of the 3D Master’s Class, part of the broader initiative known as Becoming St. Joseph: The City of Coaches, which seeks to equip leaders across all sectors of the community to coach and lead with clarity and purpose.

Joseph Company welcomes legendary college soccer coach to speak to local leaders

Missouri Western State University has announced it's schedule for the 2026 football season, featuring five games at Spratt Memorial Stadium in the 57th season of Griffon football.&nbsp;

MoWest opens the season at home on&nbsp;Thursday, August 27 with a non-conference rematch against the Augustana Vikings. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. It will also be Griffon Edge/Paint it Black Night.&nbsp; The Griffons opened their 2025 campaign on the road against Augustana and battled the #23 Vikings to the end before falling, 30-26.&nbsp; The Vikings went 9-2 this past season, and finished the year ranked #25.

Following the home opener,&nbsp;MoWest goes on the road the following Thursday, September 3, for it's MIAA opener in Warrensburg at Central Missouri. That game is also set to kick at 7 p.m.&nbsp; The Griffons will then&nbsp;stay on the road for a Saturday game at Missouri S&amp;T in non-conference play on September 12. Kickoff time is to be determined. MoWest hasn't played a game in Rolla since 2004. 

It will be another rematch in Rolla for MoWest,&nbsp;The Griffons topped S&amp;T at home last season, 27-10.&nbsp; MoWest football is 7-0-1 all-time when playing in Rolla.&nbsp;

An early bye week will follow the matchup in Rolla on September 19th, before MoWest returns home hosting Fort Hays State on Saturday, September 26 at 7 p.m. That will be Family Day and Military and First Responders Appreciation Day.&nbsp;&nbsp;After a road game at Emporia State on October 3, MoWest returns home to face Nebraska-Kearney for Homecoming on Saturday, October 10. That, too, will be a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Griffons will then head to Carnie-Smith Stadium in Pittsburg, Kansas to battle Pittsburg State on Saturday, October 17.&nbsp; MoWest is back home on Saturday, October 24 to play Missouri Southern in the annual Rogers Pharmacy Hall of Fame Game. That will be a 2 p.m. kickoff.&nbsp; The Griffons then go back on the road on Halloween to play Washburn at Yager Stadium in Topeka, Kansas. MoWest hasn't played at Washburn since 2023.

Senior Day comes up Saturday, November 7 at Spratt Stadium where MoWest faces rival Northwest Missouri State, a Bearcat team that won a share of the MIAA title in 2025 alongside Pittsburgh State, and finished the season ranked #17. That game will kick off at 2 p.m.&nbsp; The regular season will conclude with a trip to Edmond to battle Central Oklahoma at Chad Richison Stadium on Saturday, November 14.

MoWest announces football schedule for 2026

After an undefeated week that included road wins over Peru State and a win at home against Central Methodist, Benedictine's Brycen LaRue was honored by the Heart of America Conference.&nbsp;

LaRue was named the Heart Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week.&nbsp; In two games, LaRue averaged 26.5 points per game while shooting 67.9% from the floor and a whopping 50% from beyond the three point arc.&nbsp; He was also a perfect 10 of 10 at the free throw line. In the 86-70 win over Central Methodist, he paced the Ravens with a career high 32 points.

In 21 games this season, LaRue is averaging 13.7 points per game with 38 three pointers while shooting 38.4% from beyond the arc. LaRue has caught fire since the start of the new year, he is averaging 18 points per game and is the Ravens top scorer. He is shooting 55.2% from the floor with 20 three pointers, shooting 48.8%. while going a blazing 90.3% from the free throw line.

Benedictine remains at home on Wednesday, hosting Culver-Stockton College at 7:30 p.m.

Benedictine's Brycen LaRue named men's Offensive Player of the Week by conference

The New York Giants are set to hire former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy as the man to help lead the offense for new head coach John Harbaugh sources say.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter,&nbsp;Nagy, who was the Chiefs' offensive coordinator for the past three seasons, will be tasked with leading the development of a young core group of skill position players that includes second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart, third-year wide receiver Malik Nabers, and second-year running back Cam Skattebo.

Nagy has spent much of his career as an assistant under Andy Reid.&nbsp; Harbaugh also has a long history working under Reid.&nbsp; Harbaugh landed on Nagy after his preferred choice, Todd Monken, was hired as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Monken had been Harbaugh's offensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens the past three years.

Nagy, who guided the NFL's 20th-ranked offense this past season in Kansas City, interviewed for several head coaching openings this offseason, looking for a second chance after coaching the Chicago Bears from 2018 to 2021. He was a finalist in Tennessee for a job that eventually went to Robert Saleh.&nbsp; The Chiefs' offenses under Nagy finished ninth, 16th and 20th over the past three years in total yards. They failed to crack the top 10 in scoring in any of those three seasons. Reid, however, has been the Chiefs' primary playcaller over the past three seasons.

Nagy will work closely in New York with Dart.&nbsp; Dart, a first-round selection in last year's NFL draft, finished with a total of 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions.&nbsp; Dart also added nine rushing touchdowns,&nbsp;the second most for a rookie quarterback in the NFL's modern era. The Giants finished 13th in total offense this past season. They were fifth in rushing, averaging 129.1 yards per game.

Harbaugh recently conceded in interviews that Dart's presence was the top factor in him landing in New York.&nbsp; It's now Nagy who gets to work directly with Dart and that intriguing Giants offense, also headlined by Nabers who is expected to return from a torn ACL this season. New York's backfield has Skattebo as well as Tyrone Tracy Jr. running behind an offensive line that has improved and has standout Andrew Thomas at left tackle.

Nagy's contract with the Chiefs recently expired, and Kansas City rehired Eric Bieniemy to be its offensive coordinator. But Reid still went out of his way to give a stamp of approval for Nagy, saying last week that "somebody is missing a gem here."&nbsp; Among the other known candidates for the position were Jim Bob Cooter, Alex Tanney, Kliff Kingsbury and Brian Callahan. Davis Webb and LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. were also names discussed internally.

Former Chiefs OC Matt Nagy lands job as New York Giants OC

The Kansas City Royals have decided to transfer their television media rights to the MLB instead of continuing with Main Street Sports, the company that owns FanDuel Sports Kansas City.

The latest girls basketball polls released by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association saw the Lafayette girls basketball team drop out of the top spot in Class 4, while Benton stayed put and Savannah rose up one spot.

The Lady Irish, who earned the top spot in Class 4 in the previous polls, fell from #1 to #3 in this week's poll with 57 points, falling behind Stafford and Doniphan with 71 and 68 points respectively.&nbsp; The Benton Lady Cardinals remained at #7, going from 31 points to 36 points this week however, just narrowly behind the #6 team Logan Rogersville with 39 points.&nbsp; Savannah sits in a three way tie for #9, along with Oak Grove and St. Francis Borgia.

Other teams from around the region remained in the polls as well.&nbsp; In Class 3, the Mid-Buchanan Lady Dragons moved back up, moving from #9 to #7 with 24 points.&nbsp; In Class 1, the Rock Port girls held on to the top spot with 79 points.&nbsp; Again in Class 1, the Mound City girls continued to garner votes but remained unranked.

The list of Kansas City Royals players that will participate in this spring's World Baseball Classic is growing as closer Carlos Estevez will pitch for the Dominican Republic, the team announced yesterday afternoon.

Estevez becomes the seventh Royal to announce he will play in the WBC, joining Bobby Witt Jr (USA), Seth Lugo (Puerto Rico), Vinnie Pasquantino and Jac Caglianone (Italy), as well as Salvador Perez and the most recently announced player Maikel Garcia (Venezuela).&nbsp; Both Venezuela and the Domincan Republic play in Pool D, meaning Perez and Garcia will face off with Estevez on March 11th.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Estevez had a 4-5 record, a 2.45 ERA and 42 saves for the Royals in 2025, his first season with the organization.&nbsp; He was also named an All Star for the second time in his career last season.

Another Royal joins WBC as Carlos Estevez joins Dominican Republic team

A multi time state medalist, East Buchanan track star Brooklynn Johnson has signed to continue her career at Missouri Southern 

Johnson says from the moment she stepped on campus she felt a connection with the track and field team in Joplin 

“The team was so welcoming, and I just felt like a part of the team and Coach (Brian) Allen told me, he’s like everyone already feels like you’re part of the team so why don’t you just come down,” Johnson tells reporters.  “So, I really felt connected with Coach Allen, the coaching staff, they were all super nice, and I just loved the team and it’s obviously a bonus that I’m going to be with Trey.” 

Reuniting with Trey Johnson, Brooklyn’s brother, turned out to play a factor in joining the Lions, even though at first Johnson says she hesitated. 

“At first I was like would you want me to come to college with you, and he was like absolutely,” Johnson says.  “I was kind of expecting a no maybe, but he was super up for it, and he was super encouraging and I love that.” 

Trey committed to the Lions last year and is currently in his freshman year.  Both of the siblings have won state medals at East Buchanan.  

Johnson calls herself and Trey a dynamic duo, and says she knows being together nothing will be able to stop the two of them 

"I’m super excited to just have him there and just have comfort but also have pushing, because he knows how to push me, so I think it will be good to just step outside of my comfort zone up there,” Johnson explains.

East Buchanan head track coach Jeff Harlin says both Trey and Brooklyn defined the team's slogan of 'No Limits' and says the two have always been close 

"They’ve always been there for one another to congratulate each other, but there’s also a little friendly rivalry between the two, so they’ll hold each other in check, and they’ll push each other to have no limits,” Harlin says. 

Johnson won back-to-back runner ups in the shot put her freshman and sophomore year, before becoming a state champion last season as a junior.

Harlin says the Lions are getting an athlete in Johnson who's raw, with a lot of potential, but is excited she will get to learn from coach Brian Allen 

"Who coached the bronze medalist in the Paris Summer Olympics, and that thrower sometimes when he’s working out helps the throwers down at Missouri Southern, so there’s a chance that Brooklynn could be working with an Olympic bronze medalist when she’s down at Joplin competing for Missouri Southern,” Harlin says.  “So, it’s just the tip of the iceberg.” 

Johnson comes into this track season as the best returning shot put athlete in Class 2, and the sixth best in the state.

KFEQ Morning Sports 

The honors continue to roll in for Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey after his stellar 2025 season, despite the Chiefs offense being at times lackluster.&nbsp;

Humphrey has been named a finalist for the inaugural "Protector of the Year Award," recognizing the top offensive lineman in the league. He is one of six finalists alongside the Denver Broncos Garrett Bolles and Quinn Meinerz, the Miami Dolphins Aaron Brewer, the Detroit Lions Penei Sewell, and the Chicago Bears, and former Chiefs teammate, Joe Thuney.&nbsp;

Humphrey, a former second-round pick, earned First-Team All-Pro honors for the second consecutive season earlier in the offseason after a strong performance in 2025. The winner of the award will be announced during NFL Honors show on February 5th.

Third baseman Maikel Garcia will join catcher Salvador Perez for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.&nbsp;&nbsp;Garcia is making his WBC debut after a breakout 2025 season in which he tallied an .800 OPS, 16 home runs, 23 steals, 17 outs above average and 5.6 WAR, also earning him a long term contract extension with Kansas City during the offseason.

Also joining Perez and Garcia will be Ronald Acuña Jr.,&nbsp; Jackson Chourio and Wilyer Abreu on Venezuela’s roster. In the 2023 WBC, Venezuela made it to the quarterfinals, where the team lost in an eventful 9-7 defeat against the United States.

It will be the second go around in the Classic for Acuña Jr. who oined Venezuela’s 2023 team before he embarked on a historic 41-home run, 73-stolen base season. After tearing his ACL in May 2024, he returned last season with a .935 OPS, 21 home runs and nine stolen bases in 95 games.

As for&nbsp;Chourio, he had not even made his Major League debut as of the last World Baseball Classic,&nbsp;ranking as MLB Pipeline’s No. 8 prospect entering the 2023 season. The young Milwaukee Brewers star, coming into this years Classic at just 21 years old, has hit 20-plus home runs and swiped 20-plus bases in each of his first two seasons.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Abreu has developed into one of the better all-around outfielders in baseball for the Boston Red Sox. Abreu’s 15 outs above average are tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks Corbin Carroll for the most among right fielders since 2024 and he’s posted a .784 OPS in that time.

Maikel Garcia joins Perez on Team Venezuela for World Baseball Classic

For a fifth consecutive year, the Kansas City Royals Foundation will be providing free admission into the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum throughout the month of February, honoring Black History Month.

“The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is a tremendous asset that we are fortunate to have in our city and The Royals Foundation is proud to once again support Free February—removing the barrier of admission so more people can experience and learn from the powerful stories within its walls,” said Amy Gale, Executive Director of The Kansas City Royals Foundation says in a news release. “The NLBM not only highlights the evolution of baseball but it also tells a vital chapter of our nation’s history. We hope people from across the region take this opportunity to visit and learn about the rich history of the Negro Leagues.”

Since the partnership began, more than 50,000 visitors have experienced the museum during February. This increased engagement has enabled The Kansas City Royals Foundation to contribute over $435,000 in support of the museum’s mission.&nbsp; To accommodate for the anticipated demand, the museum will operate on an extended schedule. 

The NLBM will be open on Mondays in February from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the exception of Presidents’ Day, when doors are open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Additionally, the museum will open at 9:00 a.m. every Wednesday throughout the month. Regular operating hours remain Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m.

“We can’t thank the Kansas City Royals and The Royals Foundation enough for once again opening the doors of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum free of charge for the entire month of February and we look forward to seeing the turnstiles spinning,” said Bob Kendrick, NLBM President. “This impactful community outreach initiative makes the museum more accessible for students, particularly those from underserved communities, while also encouraging more people to visit where they have an opportunity to learn about and be inspired by courageous athletes who overcame tremendous social adversity to play the game they loved.”

Groups of 50 or more may arrange self-guided tours by contacting the NLBM at 816-221-1920 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Smaller groups are welcome to visit without reservations.

The Kansas City Royals announced today they have invited 25 players to Major League Spring Training in Surprise, Arizona, some that could be competing for a spot on the roster for the upcoming season.

Of the 25 invitees, 15 were originally drafted or signed by Kansas City: left-handed pitchers Chazz Martinez (17th round, 2022 Draft), Frank Mozzicato (1st round (7th), 2021 Draft) and Hunter Patteson (5th round, 2022 Draft); right-handed pitchers A.J. Causey (5th round, 2024 Draft), Dennis Colleran (7th round, 2024 Draft) and Shane Panzini (4th round, 2021 Draft), catchers Canyon Brown (9th Round, 2024 Draft), Omar Hernández (signed as IFA, 2018), Blake Mitchell (1st round (8th), 2023 Draft), Ramón Ramírez (signed as IFA, 2023) and Luca Tresh (17th round, 2021 Draft), infielders Daniel Vázquez (signed as IFA, 2021) and Peyton Wilson (Comp. B round, 2021 Draft), and outfielders Gavin Cross (1st round (9th), 2022 Draft) and Carson Roccaforte (Comp. B round, 2023 Draft).

There are also nine invitees who are new to the Royals, including pitchers Héctor Neris, Aaron Sanchez, and Helcris Olivárez, along with catchers Jorge Alfaro and Elih Marrero and infielders Connor Kaiser, Kevin Newman, Josh Rojas and Abraham Toro.

Right-handed pitcher Jose Cuas, who pitched for Kansas City from 2022-23, returns to the Royals after playing for the Cubs and Blue Jays. Last year, he split the season between minor league affiliates of the Phillies and Braves.&nbsp; 2026 marks the first invite to Major League Spring Training for 11 homegrown players, including Brown, Causey, Colleran, Martinez, Mozzicato, Panzini, Patteson, Ramírez, Roccaforte, Vázquez and Wilson.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced today that two well known regional architectural design firms have advanced to the final stages of the design process for the new stadium to be built in Wyandotte County.&nbsp;

Following extensive interest in the RFQ and RFP process MANICA and Populous have been named as the final two firms by the Chiefs to design the new state of the art stadium that will be built after the Chiefs agreement to move to the state of Kansas.&nbsp; &nbsp;This is the first significant update in the project as the Chiefs share details throughout the stadium process to fans and other stakeholders.

“We’re thrilled to take this next step in our new stadium journey and announce the two finalists in our search for lead designer,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said in a news release from the team. “The Kansas City region is the central hub of global sports and entertainment venue architecture and design, so we didn’t need to go far to identify the top options to explore final concepts for the future home of Chiefs Kingdom.”

Notable MANICA projects include New Nissan Stadium (Nashville, Tennessee), Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas, Nevada), New Milan Stadium at San Siro (Milan, Italy), Oklahoma City’s new arena (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma), Chase Center (San Francisco, California), Miami Freedom Park (Miami, Florida), Birmingham City Football Club’s new stadium (Birmingham, United Kingdom), and VTB Arena Park (Moscow, Russia).

The $3 billion state-of-the-art stadium and surrounding mixed-use development that could include sports, entertainment, dining, shopping, office, hotel, and residential properties will open at the start of the 2031 NFL season. Based on State of Kansas estimations, the fixed-roof stadium project is slated to deliver more than 20,000 jobs and more than $4.4 billion in economic impact for Kansas during the construction phase alone. The overall project is expected to generate more than 3,500 jobs and more than $1 billion in economic impact annually.

The project will be financed through a public-private partnership, with the public portion funded through Sales Tax and Revenue, or STAR, bonds and the Attracting Professional Sports to Kansas Fund. Both funding mechanisms were established specifically to ensure that there will be no new state taxes and no impact on the state budget. The remaining portion&nbsp; will be privately funded. The Hunt Family is also committing $1 billion in additional development as part of the relocation to Kansas.

Chiefs name two regional firms as finalists to design new stadium in Kansas

Gearing up for 2026 Spring Training camp, the St. Louis Cardinals invited 27 non-roster invitees, among them the clubs top prospect, that will head to Jupiter, Florida next month.&nbsp;

2025 Texas League MVP and Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year JJ Wetherholt, the clubs top prospect who will be vying for a spot on the Opening Day roster,&nbsp; and 2025 Texas League Pitcher of the Year Ixan Henderson will be among those highlighting the group of non-roster invitees.&nbsp; Eight players who were acquired this offseason or after the start of last season will also report with the big leaguers with pitchers Scott Blewett, Skylar Hales, Gerson Moreno, Jared Shuster, and Bruce Zimmermann.&nbsp; First baseman Blaze Jordan outfielder Nelson Velázquez, and catcher Andy Yerzy will be part of the group as well.
