After an effective special teams week in a 30-27 win against the Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs punter Matt Araiza was recognized by the National Football League as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Of Araiza's five punts in the matchup, all five landed inside the 20 yard line, with one landing inside the one yard line after a grab and pitch by running back Emmett Johnson to safety Xavier Nwankpa. Early in the game, Araiza also executed a fake punt perfectly and running for a first down for the Chiefs. Through four games, Araiza leads all NFL punters in yards per punt and has allowed the seventh-fewest return yards.
Araiza also has the highest rate of punts that land inside the 20-yard line. Four punters have launched a longer punt than Araiza this year, but the long of 69 yards is still a top five mark.
