With the season in the rearview mirror and a third straight MINK League championship in its belt, the accolades continue to roll in for the St. Joseph Mustangs organization. 

In a season where the organization saw an average of 2,400 fans per game, the Mustangs are ranked in the top 12 in summer collegiate baseball national attendance rankings by BallparkDigest.com.

The 2,400 fan average placed the Mustangs at number 11 on the chart among collegiate summer baseball teams all across the country.

This is the ninth consecutive year the Mustangs have placed in the top 12.  After averaging just over 2,200 guests in 2021 per game, the team saw a 7% increase in 2022.

St. Joseph Mustangs rank nationally in attendance

The Kansas City Chiefs officially concluded training camp for 2022 in St. Joseph Thursday with a fairly short, half-padded practice.

The Chiefs held a 10-10-10 practice - 10 plays for the first-team offense, 10 for the first-team defense and then 10 minutes of special teams plays. They cycled through that order three times on a clear, cool morning with temperatures in the low 70s Thursday.

This marks the end of the 12th training camp held at Missouri Western State University. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, just like every other year, was sure to thank the University for all of their hard work getting ready for camp and then hosting the team for three weeks.

"We appreciate everything Missouri Western State University does for us," Reid said. "They roll out the red carpet. It's a great situation here."

In terms of on-the-field work, Reid felt that the 17 practices were overall productive and created strong competition across the board.

"They challenged each other and that's all you can ask for as a coach," he said. "I thought it was great for the young guys to see that and feel that. That you have to come out here every day in the right mindset."

Patrick Mahomes says a number of players jumped out to him over the last three or so weeks in camp.

"Chris Jones," he said right off the bat. "I mean, he was dominant. He's the first one I think of. I think the biggest thing with Chris this year was with the run and the pass. He was down there, dominating stuff, making tackles on the run game."

Certainly on the offensive end, everyone was curious to see how Mahomes would work with the plethora of new receivers, namely Juju Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore. Justin Watson was also in the mix, while the tight ends also had a productive camp.

"Those receivers, in training camp and OTAs, there's a lot of routes run," Mahomes pointed out. "We practice fast. We keep things rolling, and they kind of have to be in and out. As you got to this middle part of camp, you could see it. They had their legs under them. They were running these routes."

Running back Jerick McKinnon returned to the field Thursday after missing Wednesday's workout with a hamstring injury. Chris Jones (back spasm), Mecole Hardman (groin spasm) and Juju Smith-Schuster (knee) did not practice, nor did Blake Bell (hip) or Lucas Niang (knee).

Niang spent the entirety of camp on the physically unable to perform list, as he recovers from offseason knee surgery.

Reid said Jones and Hardman are both "improving." He said also that Smith-Schuster is "making progress." It's not yet known if Jones or Hardman will play Saturday against Washington. Reid noted it's unlikely that Smith-Schuster will see action.

As for who will play in the game, Reid said the starters will play for most of the first half, with the third and fourth-string offense playing the entirety of the second.

Just like in last year's third preseason game against Minnesota, Chad Henne and the second-team offense will sit out to allow the younger players to get more reps.

Mahomes was very effective in the one drive he had last Saturday at Chicago, completing 6-of-7 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown to Blake Bell.

His goal for this Saturday's game remains the same.

"You want to move the ball down the field," Mahomes said. "Kind of move through the procedure of everything and hopefully you get at least one touchdown in there. I mean, our goal is to score every time we're on the field. You want to be in and out of the huddle the right way, moving the ball and executing the offense."

Saturday's game kicks off at 3 p.m. central.

This was the last required year that the Chiefs had to be at Missouri Western for training camp, per the current agreement, with two optional years left.

Missouri Western president Elizabeth Kennedy told KFEQ Radio's The Hotline during camp that the university will officially begin negotiations with the Chiefs about exercising those two optional years in March.

The agreement is looked at and evaluated every year, and Kennedy notes how special it is for Missouri Western and St. Joseph to be in the Chiefs Kingdom spotlight for those three weeks.

"It really is just a really great atmosphere," Kennedy said. "We're happy to host it and I'm really happy to work with all of our different partners in our community who are so excited."

Voice of the Chiefs Mitch Holthus has been to every training camp the last 29 years, including all of 12 of them in St. Joseph. He doesn't believe it's a coincidence that the Chiefs started becoming consistent postseason contenders shortly after moving camp to Missouri Western in 2010.

"We've had 11 camps in St. Joe and have been to the playoffs in eight of those 11 years," Holthus said. "I don't think it's a coincidence that the most successful nine years in Chiefs history, a lot of it is Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, but this is where those seasons begin - right here on this campus and right here in this city."

 "It's been fantastic for the team," Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt said in late July. "Andy and his staff really enjoy being here. They believe this environment is really conducive to getting the guys ready. The University has been very responsive over the course of our relationship in terms of making changes in order to help the experience be better."&nbsp;

"(The agreement) is something we'll evaluate once camp is done. We do that every year. Certainly, I hope we'll be back in the future."

Chiefs president Mark Donovan complimented Missouri Western and St. Joseph in July before camp even started, saying, "We love our partnership, we love our relationships, and we fully intend to continue to have those relationships.”

Chiefs end training camp in St. Joseph Thursday with short practice

(AP) — Emilio Pagán pitched two scoreless innings after Tyler Mahle departed with right shoulder fatigue, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 4-0 for a three-game sweep.

 Jose Miranda homered for Minnesota, which is fighting with Cleveland and the Chicago White Sox for control of the crowded AL Central. 

After Mahle left in the third, Pagán, Griffin Jax, Jhoan Duran, Michael Fulmer and Trevor Megill finished Minnesota’s second straight shutout. A diving catch by center fielder Gilberto Celestino saved a run in the seventh.

The Royals next take on the Rays Thursday evening with first pitch at 6:10 central. Coverage begins at 5:30 on KFEQ Radio (680, 95.3) in St. Joseph.

Mahle exits early; Twins beat Royals 4-0 for 3-game sweep

It seemed like an ordinary day at Chiefs training camp in St. Joseph Wednesday with sunny, clear skies and the team practicing in full pads.

However, the Chiefs ended the day with a longer injury list.

Tight end Blake Bell is still out with a hip injury he sustained in Saturday's game, and receiver Juju Smith-Schuster missed a second straight day with a sore knee.

Early in practice Wednesday, defensive tackle Chris Jones left practice due to back soreness. Running back Jerick McKinnon missed all of Wednesday due to a hamstring injury and receiver Mecole Hardman hurt his groin after landing awkwardly going after a ball about halfway through practice.

Hardman walked off under his own power and eventually left the field, riding in the front seat of a cart.

No long-term diagnosis on any of these yet, though more should be known following Thursday's practice, which will be the last one of training camp.

Long snapper James Winchester was gone Wednesday due to personal reasons. Punter Tommy Townsend returned after two days away due to personal matters. Right tackle Lucas Niang (knee) is still on the physically unable to perform list.

Wednesday marked the 16th full practice at Chiefs training camp with the 17th and final coming up Thursday. The latter half of camp is often called “the dog days.” The excitement wears off, guys start to feel sore, the days get long and the public focus shifts to preseason and regular season games.

Still, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has seen the kind of growth that he wants to see right now from his unit.

"Certain words are starting to mean something to them," he said. "They're starting to understand the techniques and fundamentals that we're teaching. It's been fun to watch. Has it been perfect? No, it hasn't been perfect, but that's the beauty of training camp. These guys are working hard and are accepting coaching."

One of those players who's continued to grow is rookie running back Isiah Pacheco. He's continued to pop throughout camp, as he snagged a nice wheel route for extra yardage during 7-on-7 drills Wednesday.

Bieniemy compliments Pacheco's speed, work ethic, effectiveness in the pass game and says his pass protection is coming along. There's one skill in particular, though that Bieniemy wants Pacheco to hone in on.

"Allowing the game to come to him," Bieniemy said of the rookie running back. "Learning how to be a patient runner. Understand exactly what's going on up front so now he can have a better feel on how to square his shoulders up, press it and read it out from there."

L'Jarius Sneed and Rashad Fenton are the veterans in the Chiefs' secondary, along with safety Justin Reid. Reid is in his fifth year in the NFL, Fenton his fourth and Sneed his third.

Maybe sooner than normal, Sneed has become a mentor for rookie corners Trent McDuffie, Joshua Williams and Jaylen Watson. First-year pros Dicaprio Bootle and Brandin Dandridge are also guys competing hard for time, along with several others.

"With the young guys coming in, I feel like I'm the veteran of the crew," Sneed remarked. "But I've learned a lot from (when I was a rookie) to now. From the inside I learned a lot, and I learned a lot from the outside with my techniques."

Williams, who's a fairly safe bet to make the 53-man active roster at this point, was flattered when he heard that Sneed actually looks at Williams for certain techniques and pointers.

"Almost any time I'm coming off the field, I'm asking (Sneed) how I can do this, and what did he do right here," Williams said.&nbsp; "He'll give it to you. He's not one of those guys who's in his own little world. He'll come and offer some of that wisdom. At the same time, him being humble and knowing how to speak to the rookies so we understand it, that's a plus. I love him."

Williams, drafted in the fourth round this year out of Fayetteville State, is one four players on the Chiefs' roster who came up from Division II college football. Another one is Dandridge, who played and graduated from the institution that hosts training camp - Missouri Western.

Dandridge has been, at the very least, making a case for the practice squad. He nearly had an interception in last Saturday's game at Chicago, and had a great PBU against Aaron Parker in Tuesday's practice.

Like Sneed, Dandridge is another player who Williams talks to often.

"I speak to Dandridge about the playbook and try to get some of his skillset," Williams said. "Brandin is a great player. He's versatile. He can play on the outside, he can play some of that nickel spot. You know, I talk to him about some of the things he expects when he sees certain formations or certain looks."

Harrison Butker supports Justin Reid's kicking

Kicker Harrison Butker missed Monday's practice due to ankle soreness, but was back and at full strength both Tuesday and Wednesday.

He was seen giving lead contender for backup kicker, Justin Reid, a hug in Saturday's game after Reid knocked through a point after right before halftime.

Butker says Reid "has a big leg, but not a lot of efficiency." Reid has continued to take a handful of reps placekicking in practice, especially Monday when Butker was gone.&nbsp;

One thing is certain - Butker is glad to have another player willing and capable to at least try field goals.

"I'm all for it," Butker said gladly. "I'm all for evolving the game and pushing the limits. So, to have more people who are enthusiastic about being kickers, I'm all for it."

The Chiefs hold their final practice of training camp on Thursday with an early 8:15 a.m. start.

Chris Jones, Mecole Hardman leave camp practice early Wednesday

(AP) — Sonny Gray matched his season high with 10 strikeouts and Gio Urshela had four hits as the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 9-0. 

Gilberto Celestino homered and Luis Arraez picked up three more hits to raise his MLB-best batting average to .336. The Twins moved within a game of AL Central-leading Cleveland. 

Gray exited to a standing ovation when manager Rocco Baldelli pulled him in the seventh after hits by Salvador Perez and Vinnie Pasquantino. Gray had allowed just one hit through six innings.

The Royals take on the Twins again Wednesday afternoon with first pitch at 12:10 central on KFEQ Radio (680, 95.3) in St. Joseph.

The Kansas City Chiefs had to make their first cuts from the 90-man roster this week, but they also added one player - defensive tackle Danny Shelton.

A 6-foot-2, 345-pound lineman who enters his eighth season in the league, Shelton has spent time previously with Cleveland, New England, Detroit and the New York Giants.

He’s worked with the Chiefs a total of two days so far, but Shelton hopes he can stay in Kansas City long term.

"I don't like having to move my dogs, my kids," he said. "If I'm able to contribute and coaches see that...if I'm here longer, then I'm here longer."

Shelton owns 72 career starts, 278 career tackles, 17 career tackles for loss and six career sacks. He looks to be a run stopper and pass rusher up the middle along with Pro Bowler Chris Jones.

Again, it's early, and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo says Shelton is still getting "acclimated" and figuring out what exact role he'll have on the defense. Still, Shelton expresses excitement about being in Kansas City.

"We got some ballers on this team," Shelton said. "I'm excited to be here, feed off their energy, play with them, compete with them and go to work."

The Chiefs also signed 13-year pro and defensive end Carlos Dunlap in the early days of training camp.

The Chiefs announced Tuesday that they have waived defensive end Austin Edwards and receiver Devin Gray to get their roster down to 85 players, per NFL deadline.

Gray was just signed to the Chiefs from the USFL on August 6. NFL teams will have to cut five more players by next Tuesday with the 53-man roster being decided by August 30.

It was a cool, wet morning at Chiefs training camp in St. Joseph Tuesday, and it seemed like the defense played through it well. Solid pass coverage, strong reps in blocking drills, a Justin Reid interception on a tipped ball, quarterback pressure and so on.

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo says his players were sluggish Monday coming off of a Saturday game and subsequent travel, but he saw a solid bounce back Tuesday.

"The (second and third-team defense) got a lot of reps and that's a quick turnaround," Spagnuolo said. "That might have had a little bit to do with it. There's really no excuses. That's what we talked about (Monday) night. We can't be wasting any days. I thought we did a nice job bouncing back today."

Receiver Juju Smith-Schuster did not work Tuesday due to a sore knee. Blake Bell is still out with a hip flexor injury. Kicker Harrison Butker was back after ankle soreness Monday.

Punter Tommy Townsend was absent for a second straight day for personal reasons. Right tackle Lucas Niang remains on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from knee surgery.

Fenton started camp on the PUP list, as he was recovering from a shoulder injury sustained late last season. It wasn't clear as to whether or not he'd be ready to participate in camp.

Fenton came back on August 9, got reacclimated and has now taken his spot back as a top corner on the first-team defense along with L'Jarius Sneed.

Fenton remarked Tuesday that's he's "back to 100%." Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has noticed this, too. He's also noticed Fenton helping the younger corners, like rookies Joshua Williams, Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson.

Each of those rookies saw significant playing time at Chicago last Saturday, and will certainly get more reps in the preseason. Spagnuolo wants to see those youngsters continue to get better.

"To me, it still comes back to how you respond in a game," Spags said. "They've got some more games to go here, and more than anything, how they respond when it doesn't go well. That's really what I have my eye on."

The Chiefs practice Wednesday and Thursday to conclude training camp in 2022. Kansas City will play at home against Washington on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the second preseason game.

Rookie receiver Skyy Moore, who had three catches for 23 yards against Chicago, looks forward to playing at Arrowhead Stadium for the first time as an NFL player.

"I'm anticipating (the atmosphere) being electric," Moore said. "That's what everybody around here just talks about. They say Arrowhead is the best stadium in the league. I'm going to take their word for it until I see otherwise."

Kepler helps Twins bats get going in 4-2 win over Royals

Bishop LeBlond volleyball has been, historically, quite successful.

Ten district titles in the last 12 years. Twelve of the last 13 seasons ending with 20-plus wins.

And yet, 2021 stands out among the rest. The Eagles became the first high school program in St. Joseph city history to reach a state championship match.

"It was so fun," senior middle Paige Perry said of the experience. "It was just even better with my team. I know we're so proud of what we accomplished and I know we're trying to bring that back this season."

LeBlond fell in straight sets to Hermann in the Class 2 state title match in Cape Girardeau last November - a Hermann program that's made the Final Four six straight years and has won state five times since 2010 alone.

Kim Huss enters her 18th season as head volleyball coach at LeBlond. She believes the Eagles return enough talent to make another run toward the Final Four.

"We finished with a really young team," Huss said of last season. "And we were starting a lot of sophomores and juniors who are back this year, and we get to go again with them. We know we're losing a couple of seniors who contributed, but we also know we're bringing back some statistical leaders."

Senior Sadie Ward is the lead returning attacker, tallying 267 kills and 67 ace serves last year. She also had 348 digs - second most for the Eagles in 2021.

"I'm excited," Ward said. "I hope we get back (to the Final Four), but obviously, we can't think too much ahead. You have to focus on every game, and fight to take it back."

Perry is back, along with junior and fellow middle blocker Maddie Sego. The two combined for 114 total blocks last season.

"I think we're pretty confident," Perry said. "I just know we need to stay humble, because if we get too cocky, we're not going to get very far."

Kyla Conard, now a junior, was the lead setter last season with 696 assists, though senior Abbey Konz will be in the mix there as well. Konz was the starting setter during her sophomore year, but missed her junior season in 2021 due to injury.

The now graduated Emily Welter was the go-to libero, but with 338 serves received and 348 digs last year, Ward can be a contender there.

However she contributes, Ward has one clear goal in mind.

"Obviously getting back (to the state title match)," she said. "I really hope...I mean, winning state would be amazing, but just going back would be awesome, too."

Whatever happens this season, Huss says her team has lots to be proud of, seeing as LeBlond is still the only volleyball program in St. Joseph history to even reach a Final Four. The Eagles have done it now three times since 2012.

"They're going to be able to hold their heads high for awhile," Huss said of her current group, "because they're only team in St. Joe to ever play in state volleyball championship. So, we want to get back there obviously. That's the goal, but I do think there's a lot of things along the way. It's not even something we've talked a lot about."

This season marks Huss's 18th as LeBlond's head volleyball coach and her second as principal. She's busy in the fall no doubt, and she's coached in some high pressure matches. Yet, the volleyball court is where Huss feels the most at ease.

"I always tell people that this two hours in the gym every day is the most relaxing and enjoyable part of my day," Huss said. "Any time in the gym watching volleyball is great. Going to coaching clinics and things like that. So, I put a lot into this program and I can't let it go yet."

For the seniors on Huss's roster who will part ways with the program after this season, they'd like nothing more than to take it one step further and deliver a title for their coach and school.

"(Coach Huss) likes to treat us like family," Ward said. "Obviously, she pushes us hard. She wants to get back (to the title) too I assume. So, hopefully, we give it our all."

LeBlond will take part in the city jamboree on August 23 and then host Rock Port on August 29 to officially open the season.

Post Preview: LeBlond volleyball aims to make history again with talent-filled roster

The Kansas City Chiefs were back in St. Joseph Monday to begin their final week of training camp.

It was a partly sunny, cool and breezy morning with temperatures right around 70 to begin practice. It was also one of the lighter crowds of camp thus far, but it's not unusual for Monday morning.

Kansas City played its first preseason game at Chicago Saturday, with the Bears prevailing 19-14. Head coach Andy Reid says the goal, as one would expect, is to win every game.

While that wasn’t achieved, Reid was pleased with what he saw for the most part.

"I like the experience the young guys got," Reid said. "We'll keep giving these guys some experience here with these preseason games. I think that's important."

The game was an important opportunity for the Chiefs' rookies and other young players trying to make the roster. It's hard to ream a whole lot from Saturday, as there was different personnel on the field quite often, and nobody played for super long stretches.

Yet, lots of eyes were on the rookies - primarily running back Isiah Pacheco, defensive end George Karlaftis, corners Joshua Williams, Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie and receiver Skyy Moore.

Again, a lot of guys showed flashes. Karlaftis had a first half sack. Moore had three total catches. Williams a solo stop, and so on. Reid says the preseason will continue to be a great learning opportunity for all of them.

"You have an opportunity to see what their talents are," Reid continued. "At the same time, they have to be able to, in that 30 or so seconds, figure out what the play is, get up and go and perform at a high level."

Kansas City has a preseason game at home against Washington this Saturday at 3 p.m. central. They'll also host Green Bay on Thursday, August 25 at 7 p.m.

The NFL deadline for the first roster cuts is Tuesday, and the Chiefs took their first step toward getting the roster down from 90-85 players.

Just as practice was getting started Monday, the Chiefs announced via Twitter that corner Lonnie Johnson, receivers Omar Bayless and Gary Jennings and offensive tackle Evin Ksiezarcyk were cut from the roster.

They also made official the signing of defensive tackle Danny Shelton - an eight-year pro who is a load, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing in at 345 pounds. Reid mentioned that Shelton got some decent work done in his first training camp practice with the team.

"He's a big body that's a good athlete," Reid said of Shelton. "He's had a lot of good downs in this league. He was out there and (general manager Brett Veach) wanted to add a little more in there. So, he brought (Shelton) in. I think it's a good addition."

The Chiefs will have to cut two more players by 3 p.m. central this Tuesday, and then five more after that by August 23. The final, 53-man active roster must be decided by August 30.

Tight end Blake Bell suffered a hip flexor injury in the game Saturday. He was not at practice Monday. There's not yet a prediction on when he might be back.

Chiefs make first roster cuts as training camp resumes Monday

(AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 60 yards and a touchdown on Kansas City’s first possession, then watched as the Chiefs lost to the Chicago Bears 19-14 in the preseason opener. 

The game Saturday was the first for Chicago’s Matt Eberflus as a head coach. It also marked the return to Soldier Field for predecessor Matt Nagy who is now the Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach. 

Mahomes completed 6 of 7 passes on a 72-yard drive after Chicago went three-and-out on the game’s first possession. Chiefs safety Justin Reid nailed an extra point after after Kansas City scored in the closing seconds of the first half.

The Chiefs next take on Washington Saturday afternoon with kickoff at 3:00 central. Coverage begins at 2:00 on Qcountry 92.7 FM.

A day after hitting six home runs in a romp, the Dodgers were held to just two hits. The Dodgers were trying to match their longest winning streak since moving to Los Angeles, having won 13 straight in both 1962 and 1965. 

The franchise record is 15 in a row set in 1924 while the team played in Brooklyn — the club moved to West Coast for the 1958 season. Singer pitched one-hit ball against the team with the best record in the majors. He struck out seven and walked three. Vinnie Pasquantino homered among his three hits and drove in two runs.

(AP) — Tony Gonsolin took a no-hit try into the seventh inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers won their 11th straight game, beating the Kansas City Royals 8-3 Friday night.

Gonsolin (14-1) tied Atlanta’s Kyle Wright for the NL wins lead. The Dodgers, with the best record in the majors, broke open the game on Trayce Thompson’s three-run homer in the eighth.

“Tony was good,” manager Dave Roberts said. “I think it helped that this was a very aggressive ballclub. They were aggressive in the zone.”

“I thought in the sixth or seventh inning he hit a wall. The slider started to get up there and he couldn’t get the split to have the depth. I felt he had enough,” he said.

Gonsolin did not allow a baserunner until issuing a one-out walk to Kyle Isbel in the sixth, when the game was still scoreless. He didn’t give up a hit until Vinnie Pasquantino’s one-out single in the seventh.

Overall, Gonsolin permitted two hits in 6 2/3 innings.

“It was pretty solid,” Gonsolin said. “I felt like I was throwing a lot of strikes early with everything, which was nice to see. They were swinging a lot, so I kept the pitch count down. I got some soft contact and the guys made some good plays.”

Greinke helps Royals beat Cease, White Sox 5-3

Brandin Dandridge had a legendary career while wearing a Missouri Western uniform.

A three-time all-MIAA selection, including first-team as a returner in 2018, Dandridge left St. Joseph for a professional career in the Canadian Football League.

He was signed by the Ottawa Redblacks in 2019 - only for his first scheduled season in 2020 to be canceled due to COVID-19. In 2021, he was signed to the practice roster, released, landed back on the practice roster and was elevated to the active roster last September.

He made the most of that chance, playing the final eight games of the season, nabbing four interceptions and 12 tackles.

That led to a tryout invite in February from the Kansas City Chiefs. That, eventually, landed him back on the Missouri Western campus - in a Chiefs uniform at training camp.

"Dream come true, man," Dandridge said of the experience. "I've just been soaking up every day, trying to get better. Enjoying the opportunity. Blessed. Blessed to be here. Just very thankful."

Dandridge has mostly worked with third and fourth-team defense in camp, as well as contributing on special teams. He's stood shoulder-to-shoulder with supreme talent in the Chiefs' cornerback room.

Rashad Fenton and L'Jarius Sneed are returning veteran starters at that position, while rookies Trent McDuffie and Joshua Williams have turned heads throughout camp as well.

It seems like a daunting task going against such talent, but Dandridge has embraced it.

"Man, it's been a huge blessing," he continued. "We're very competitive every single day. I know you see it. We're going to bring that every day in practice and every game."

"He's busy, I'm busy. So, we try and communicate as much as we can. I'm proud of him. I started with him at Missouri Western. Two or three years. That's my brother right there. I got nothing but love for him."Being back on campus has sparked memories for Dandridge. As has being back in the Griffons' locker room.Missouri Western football just started their fall camp this past Monday. Matt Williamson, hired as the Griffons' head coach in Dandridge's junior season, invited his former player to speak with the 2022 Griffons on Wednesday night."It was fun to just, you know, jump back into that atmosphere again," Dandridge said. "Biggest message I gave them was...it's mainly a lot of young guys, just 'don't leave there with no regrets. Put everything you got into it. Use all of your resources that you got there and don't leave no regrets when you're a senior, because time flies.'"Saturday is a big day for Dandridge and every young newcomer on the Chiefs' roster. Kansas City opens its preseason schedule at Chicago - just three days before NFL teams cut their active roster down from 90 to 85 players.It'll go from 85 to 80 on August 23 with the final 53-man list being decided August 30.Dandridge is aware of this, but isn't preoccupied with it. Instead, he's just excited to be playing in his first NFL game."Man, I'm just excited to go play football at the end of the day," he said. "First game of the season. I'm just ready to go out there and compete."Training camp in St. Joseph wraps up August 18. Dandridge will then head back to Kansas City with the team. He was born and raised in Des Moines, moved to Lee's Summit in seventh grade and graduated from Blue Springs South High School in 2014.Being signed by the Chiefs this year has turned into a second homecoming of sorts for Dandridge, who's been able to reconnect with family since being back. And you can be sure, his family is ready for this football season."You know, they're all excited and ready to come to games and watch us play," Dandridge said. "It's been real fun. Real humbling.
