The St. Louis Cardinals have had tough luck against the New York Mets this season, but in the opener of a double header on Sunday, after rain postponed Saturday's matchup, the Redbirds got one on the Mets, winning 6-5 at Busch Stadium.&nbsp;

St. Louis and New York did trade blows though before the Cardinals managed to pull away, the Mets taking the first lead of the game in the opening inning with back to back doubles by Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo.&nbsp; In the second inning, the St. Louis tied the game up when Willson Contreras hit a solo home run to right center field, his fourth home run of the season.&nbsp;

In the third inning, Juan Soto led off with a single for New York and was followed up with a double by Alonso.&nbsp; Soto later scored in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Jesse Winker.&nbsp; The Cardinals again tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly of their own, Nolan Gorman flying out and driving in Brendan Donovan.&nbsp;

In the fourth inning, St. Louis finally managed to pull away, putting up a four run inning.&nbsp; Victor Scott II singled, Jose Barrero was hit by a pitch, and Alec Burleson walked to load the bases before Donovan singled to drive in Scott and Barrero.&nbsp; After Nolan Arenado waked, to reload the bases, Contreras came through again for the Cardinals with a single into right field, scoring Burleson and Donovan.

The Mets started to chip back in the sixth inning, narrowing the lead to three runs as Fransisco Lindor grounded into a forceout as Jeff McNeil scored.&nbsp; The final two runs came in the eighth inning, again thanks to Lindor this time on a single that drove in McNeil and&nbsp;Luisangel Acuña.&nbsp; New York did threaten in the ninth, getting Starling Marte to third base against Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, but&nbsp;Acuña popped out to end the inning.&nbsp;

Erick Fedde earned the win, going to 2-3 on the season, pitching five innings and giving up three runs on six hits, striking out four and walking five.&nbsp; Contreras led the way hitting going 3-4 with three RBI's and one home run at the plate.&nbsp;

Game two of the doubleheader begins with first pitch at 5:15pm, pregame coverage will begin at 5:05 on KY 102 (102.5FM).&nbsp; Andre Pallente will start for the Cardinals against&nbsp;Tylor Megill for the Mets.&nbsp;

Cardinals finally solve Mets in doubleheader opener winning 6-5

The Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles combined for 11 home runs in a slugfest at Camden Yards where the Royals came out on top 11-6 in the series finale.&nbsp;

Despite hitting three home runs in the win on Saturday, the Royals entered Sunday's finale still at the bottom of the league in home runs with 18.&nbsp; Kansas City slugged seven of the 11 home runs in the win.&nbsp; The seven home runs from Kansas City marked a new single game franchise record. .&nbsp;

Baltimore and Kansas City traded blows early before the Royals pulled away.&nbsp; Garcia's first home run of the game gave Kansas City their first lead of the game in the second inning.&nbsp; But in the bottom half, Holliday answered with his first home run of the game to tie it up.&nbsp; The Orioles then took the lead in the third inning, Adley Rutschman doubling to drive in Gunnar Henderson who starter Michael Lorenzen had walked.&nbsp;

The Royals though continued to trade punches with Baltimore, taking the lead back in the fourth inning.&nbsp; Salvador Perez singled and Hunter Renfroe doubled, setting up Drew Waters to come through with a single into left field, scoring both Perez and Renfroe for the 3-2 lead.&nbsp; 

In the bottom half of the inning, Holliday hit his second home run of the game, once again tying it up.&nbsp; It was the first multi home run game of Holliday's young career.&nbsp; Then, in the fifth inning, Jonathan India slugged the fourth home run of the game to give Kansas City the lead back once again, India's first home run as a Royal.&nbsp;

In the bottom of the fifth, the slugfest continued, as Cedric Mullins and Ryan O'Hearn both hit solo home runs to again give Baltimore the lead back.&nbsp; But the Royals tied the game up again in the sixth inning, Garcia hitting his second home run of the game, for the first multi home run game of his career.&nbsp;

Kansas City took the lead for good in the seventh inning, keeping the home run derby going, with back to back homes by Bobby Witt Jr and Vinnie Pasquantino.&nbsp; In the eighth inning, recently called up catcher Luke Maile hit his first home run as a Royal to extend the lead, before Witt Jr added another RBI with a double driving in India.

The Orioles added a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ryan Mountcastle driving in O'Hearn who doubled.&nbsp; In the ninth inning, Kansas City added more insurance, with another home run, the first of the day that was not a solo shot as Michael Massey hit a two run home run, driving in Cavan Biggio, who pinch ran for Perez.&nbsp;

Angel Zerpa earned the win in relief, pitching 1.2 innings giving up one run on three hits.&nbsp; In a no decision, starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen pitched 4.2 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking one.&nbsp; Garcia (3-5, 2 HR, 2 RBI), Pasquantino (3-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI), Witt Jr. (2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBIs), and Waters (2-5, 2 RBIs) led the way at the plate in the win.&nbsp;

Kansas City returns to the comforts of Kauffman Stadium tomorrow, beginning a four game series against the Chicago White Sox.&nbsp; Cole Ragans is scheduled to start for the Royals against&nbsp;Shane Smith for the White Sox.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:40pm, pregame coverage begins at 6pm on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).&nbsp;

Royals slug seven home runs in Baltimore home run derby winning 11-6

The Kansas City Royals bounced back from a shutout loss in Friday's series opener against the series opener, smashing three home runs on way to a 4-0 shutout win on Saturday night at&nbsp;Camden Yards.

After the game got started on time and got through the first inning, the teams had to wait just under an hour to resume play as rain rolled into the area in Baltimore.&nbsp; Both Orioles starter&nbsp;Tomoyuki Sugano and Royals starter Kris Bubic, stayed in the game and threw in the bullpen while the field was prepared.

The Royals broke onto the scoreboard in the fourth inning as Jonathan India led off the inning with a double, and later in the inning Maikel Garcia singled to score India.&nbsp; In the fifth, Cavan Biggio extended the lead with the first of the three home runs, and his first of the season, going to right center field.&nbsp;

Bubic made it through five innings following the rain delay before giving way to the bullpen, giving up four hits and striking out three while walking one.&nbsp; Daniel Lynch pitched the sixth and seventh innings, continuing to slow the Orioles lineup, allowing just one hit and walking one, also striking out one batter.&nbsp;

In the eighth inning, Kyle Isbel needed to see just one pitch from reliever&nbsp;Seranthony Domínguez before adding to the lead with his second home run of the season.&nbsp; With two outs, Vinnie Pasquantino blasted his team leading fifth home run in the same inning.&nbsp; The Royals did threaten to add more runs, after Garcia and Michael Massey hit back to back singles, but Hunter Renfroe grounded out to end the inning.&nbsp;

Lucas Erceg allowed one hit in the bottom of the eighth, but struck out two batters, before John Schreiber closed out game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, to close out the fourth shutout victory for Kansas City this season.&nbsp;With the win, Bubic improves to 3-2 on the season.&nbsp; Garcia led the way hitting in the win going 3-3 at the plate with one RBI and one walk.&nbsp;

Royals bats explode for three home runs in 4-0 shutout of Orioles

For a second season in a row in St. Louis, the Cardinals and Mets had a game wiped out by rain. And for a second time this week, the Cardinals are preparing to play a doubleheader because of inclement weather.

Torrential rains throughout the day on Saturday forced the Mets and Cardinals into a split doubleheader on Sunday at Busch Stadium. Game 1 will start at 12:15 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 12:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM), while Game 2 is scheduled to begin at 5:15, pregame coverage starting at 5:05.

The Cardinals will pitch right-hander Erick Fedde in Game 1 and right-hander Andre Pallante in Game 2. The Mets will send Saturday’s scheduled starter, Tylor Megill, to the mound in Game 2, while rookie Blade Tidwell gets the ball in the opener.

The Cardinals, who have dropped all five games this season against the Mets, had their game in Cincinnati rained out on Tuesday. That forced them into playing a doubleheader on Wednesday and they swept both games from the rival Reds. The Cards also played two games in Boston on April 6 because of a rainout a day earlier and lost both games of the doubleheader to the Red Sox.

St. Louis decided against starting right-hander Michael McGreevy, who was recalled from Triple-A Memphis today. Brought to St. Louis to offer “protection” in case a game goes sideways early in the day and multiple innings were needed from a reliever, McGreevy will work out of the bullpen on Sunday.

And for a second time this week, the Cardinals are preparing to play a doubleheader because of inclement weather.</p><p>Torrential rains throughout the day on Saturday forced the Mets and Cardinals into a split doubleheader on Sunday at Busch Stadium. Game 1 will start at 12:15 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 12:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM), while Game 2 is scheduled to begin at 5:15, pregame coverage starting at 5:05.</p><p>The Cardinals will pitch right-hander Erick Fedde in Game 1 and right-hander Andre Pallante in Game 2. The Mets will send Saturday’s scheduled starter, Tylor Megill, to the mound in Game 2, while rookie Blade Tidwell gets the ball in the opener.</p><p>The Cardinals, who have dropped all five games this season against the Mets, had their game in Cincinnati rained out on Tuesday. That forced them into playing a doubleheader on Wednesday and they swept both games from the rival Reds. The Cards also played two games in Boston on April 6 because of a rainout a day earlier and lost both games of the doubleheader to the Red Sox.</p><p>St. Louis decided against starting right-hander Michael McGreevy, who was recalled from Triple-A Memphis today. Cardinals-Mets postponed Saturday; split doubleheader set for Sunday

The St. Louis Cardinals have had some bad luck this season when it comes to playing the New York Mets, and it continued Friday night in the series opener at Busch Stadium, as the Redbirds fell 9-3.&nbsp;

In a series last month in New York that ran April 17th through the 20th, St. Louis had one of their worst offensive stretches of the season,&nbsp;In the four-game series against the Mets, the Cardinals' bats hit a big snag, going 22-for-129 (.171) with 43 strikeouts. Even worse, St. Louis went 4-for-27 (.148) with runners in scoring position during the four-game set.

The Cardinals didn't fare much better in the opener, batting going 9 for 34 (.265) at the plate, striking out five times, they did battle early though with the Mets and took the first lead of the game in the opening inning.&nbsp; Lars Nootbaar doubled, and stole third base, and was driven in by Masyn Winn with a single.&nbsp; After Winn's single though, Brendan Donovan flied out, Winn was caught stealing, and Nolan Arenado popped out to end the first.&nbsp;

The lead went back and forth through the first three innings, as New York took their first lead of the game in the second inning, Cardinals starter Sonny Gray loading the bases to start the inning walking Brandon Nimmo and giving up back to back singles to Jesse Winker and Mark Vientos.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeff McNeil grounded into a force out, Vientos being thrown out at second, but was safe himself at first as Nimmo scored.&nbsp; In the next at bat McNeil found himself thrown out at second base as Fransisco Alvarez grounded into a force out, and reached first safely, Winker coming across home for the 2-1 lead.&nbsp;

St. Louis scored their final runs of the game in the third inning as they took the lead back for the final time.&nbsp; Victor Scott II singled opening the inning, and moved to second base on a groundout by Nootbaar.&nbsp; Moving to steal third base, a throwing error by Alvarez allowed Scott to come home to score and tie up the game. Winn singled, and then went first to third on a single in the next at bat by Donovan, before coming scoring the go ahead run thanks to a single by Willson Contreras.&nbsp;

The four run fifth inning by the Mets helped put the game away for good.&nbsp; Juan Soto doubled and scored on a two run home run by Pete Alonso.&nbsp; Nimmo and Winker hit back to back singles, Nimmo scoring on a forceout groundout by Vientos where Winker was thrown out at second.&nbsp; Vientos later scored on a single from Alvarez.&nbsp; Nimmo homered and Tyrone Taylor scored after doubling in the seventh inning to add insurance runs for New York.&nbsp; Taylor also scored on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.&nbsp;

Sonny Gray took the loss, falling to 3-1, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up six runs, only four earned, on nine hits, striking out six and walking three.&nbsp; Winn led the Cardinals at the plate going 3-4 with one RBI.

The Kansas City Royals managed just four hits and saw their winning streak end at three games, falling to the Baltimore Orioles 3-0 on Friday night.&nbsp; Bobby Witt Jr was 0-4, losing his career best 22 game hitting streak in the loss.&nbsp;

It was a classic pitchers duel between Royals starter Michael Wacha and Orioles starter Dean Kremer, as both teams were scoreless through the first six innings, a combined six hits between both teams, but in the seventh Baltimore broke through putting up all three runs.&nbsp;

Adley Rutschman doubled to lead off the inning and former Royal Ryan O' Hearn followed that with a two run home run to center field off Wacha.&nbsp; Wacha surrendered a third straight hit, a double to Ryan Mountcastle and walked Ramon Laureano before manager Matt Quatraro pulled him in favor of the bullpen, bringing on reliever Steven Cruz.&nbsp; Cruz immediatly gave up a single to&nbsp;Heston Kjerstad, loading the bases, before another former Royal&nbsp;Emmanuel Rivera singled to drive in Mountcastle for the final run of the inning.&nbsp;

Giving up all three runs, Wacha took the loss, falling to 1-4, pitching 6.1 innings and striking out three, walking one and giving up seven hits.&nbsp; Michael Massey (2-4) and Freddy Fermin (2-3) accounted for all four of the Royals hits.

The Kansas City Royals bats were clicking on all cylinders on way to their second series sweep of the season, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 8-2 on Thursday afternoon at&nbsp;George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Tampa Bay did strike first however against Royals starter Seth Lugo in the first inning,&nbsp;Yandy Díaz hitting a solo home run to center field.&nbsp; It's the second game in a row Díaz made solid contact in his first at bat of the game, after taking Noah Cameron nearly deep on Wednesday, but was robbed of a home run by Hunter Renfroe.&nbsp;

Kansas City tied the game up in the fourth inning, a sacrifice fly by Michael Massey scoring Maikel Garcia, but the game really turned around in the fifth inning when Bobby Witt Jr extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a two run home run, driving in Freddy Fermin, and putting the Royals up 3-1.&nbsp; Back to back doubles by Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez extended the lead, also in the fifth.&nbsp;

Another three run frame in the sixth inning continued pushing Kansas City farther ahead.&nbsp; Walks to Mark Cahna and Jonathan India and a single by Fermin loaded the bases, before Witt Jr drove in a third run being hit by a pitch.&nbsp; A single by Pasquantino drove in the final two runs of the inning, scoring Fermin and India.&nbsp; Cavan Biggio pinch hit for Perez, who was removed with left hip soreness the Royals announced, and struck out to end the inning.&nbsp;

The Rays added their final run in the bottom half of the sixth inning with an RBI single from Jonathan Aranda, driving in Chandler Simpson, but Kansas City struck again later in the game adding their last run in the eighth inning, also with an RBI single from Garcia to score India who walked to open the inning.&nbsp;

Royals blow out Rays 8-2 for second series sweep of 2025

Called on to start in place of the injured Cole Ragans, St Joseph's Noah Cameron looked like a star in the making on Wednesday night, taking a no hit bid into the seventh inning against the Tampa Bay Rays in his MLB debut as the Kansas City Royals won 3-0 at&nbsp;George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The Royals helped Cameron settle in early with some early run support, getting on the board in the first inning.&nbsp; Bobby Witt Jr singled, extending his hit streak to 21 games, before Vinnie Pasqantino hit a two run home run to right field, his fourth homer of the year, to put Kansas City up 2-0 before Cameron even took the mound.&nbsp;&nbsp;

When Cameron did get on the mound, he worked quick in the first inning, getting the first out on one pitch as&nbsp;Chandler Simpson popped out on a bunt to first base.&nbsp; Cameron needed just four more pitches to get through the inning, the most exciting coming when&nbsp;Yandy Díaz hit a deep fly fall to right field, which Hunter Renfroe went over the wall to save.&nbsp;

Cameron struggled with command some in the second inning, issuing back to back walks to Brandon Lowe and Danny Jansen, but forced Curtis Mead to ground into a double play to end the inning.&nbsp; In the third inning, Cameron saw another fantastic defensive play behind him as Witt Jr snagged a ball out of the air in the gap for an out, before ending the inning with his first career strikeout.&nbsp;

The Royals added their final run of the game in the fifth inning to extend their lead after Cavan Biggio walked.&nbsp; A single from Jonathan India advanced Biggio to second base before a single from Witt Jr brought Biggio all the way home to score.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cameron recorded two more strikeouts to end the sixth inning and opened the seventh inning getting Lowe to ground out before Mead singled down the third base line, which ended the night for the Central alum, Royals manager Matt Quatraro coming out and applauding his performance as he pulled him from the game for John Schreiber.&nbsp;

Schreiber and Lucas Erceg both recorded holds, Erceg giving up one hit, before closing pitcher&nbsp;Carlos Estévez came on and recorded his ninth save of the season, giving up two hits but striking out one.&nbsp;

Cameron earned his first career win, pitching 6.1 innings giving up one hit, striking out three and walking five batters.&nbsp; Witt Jr (2-4, 1 RBI), Salvador Perez (2-4), Maikel Garcia (2-4), and Kyle Isbel (2-4) led the way hitting for the Royals.&nbsp;

Kansas City and Tampa Bay wrap up their series tomorrow.&nbsp; The Royals will send Seth Lugo to the mound against Shane Baz for the Rays.&nbsp; KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM) will join first pitch at 12:10pm.

Cameron shines in debut taking no hit bid into 7th as Royals top Rays

After shutting out the Reds earlier in the day, the St. Louis Cardinals bats stayed hot in the second game of a double header, beating Cincinnati 9-1 in the nightcap at&nbsp;Great American Ball Park.

Unlike the opener to the day, where St. Louis scored a lone run in the first inning and the final five runs late in the ninth, in the late game all the Redbirds runs came in the first three innings of the game, first putting up a three spot in the first.&nbsp;

Lars Nootbaar walked to open the inning and Masyn Winn, who homered twice in the opener to the day, singled to start the inning.&nbsp; Brendan Donovan lined out to hold both runners&nbsp; at their respective bases, but then Willson Contreras got the Cardinals on the board with St. Louis's fifth home run of the day, and first of the nightcap, a three run blast to center field.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the second inning, the Cardinals hit yet another home run on the day, this time off the bat of&nbsp;Pedro Pagés to left field, the lone run of the inning, before putting up the final five runs in the third inning.&nbsp;

Cincinnati struggled to record any outs in the third inning, first giving up a double to Winn and then a single to Donovan, scoring Winn.&nbsp; Contreras followed up Donovan's single with one of his own, before Alec Burleson struck out for the first out, but then Nolan Gorman was walked to load the bases.&nbsp; With the bases loaded, Jordan Walker doubled, driving in Donovan and Contreras, with Gorman forced to stop at third, and forcing a pitching change by the Reds.&nbsp;

With Brent Suter coming onto the mound the luck did not change,&nbsp;Pagés reaching first on a fielders choice and driving in Gorman, which was followed up by a Victor Scott II single bringing home Walker for the final Cardinals run of the game.&nbsp; &nbsp;

St. Louis starter Steven Matz put together another good start, in just his second start of the season, but earned a no decision, going just four innings and striking out six over four innings and giving up five hits.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gordon Graceffo pitched the final five innings of the game.&nbsp;

Graceffo picked up where Matz left off, surrendering just two hits both in the sixth inning where Cincinnati scored their one run.&nbsp; Elly De La Cruz leading the inning off with a single and scoring on a single by&nbsp;Santiago Espinal.&nbsp; Graceffo struck out five batters and earned the win, the first of his career.

Winn (2-5) and Contreras (2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI) led the way hitting at the plate in the win.&nbsp; The Cardinals have now won two in a row against the Reds after losing the series opener on Monday.&nbsp;

Cardinals bats stay hot, sweep doubleheader with 9-1 win over Reds

After being rained out on Tuesday, the St. Louis Cardinals made it rain again on Wednesday, smashing four home runs in a 6-0 shutout win in the first game of a split doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Masyn Winn was responsible for two of the Redbirds home runs, the first coming in the first inning as the Cardinals shortstop blasted the ball 400 feet to left field to open the scoring.&nbsp; St. Louis though, managed just one more hit off Reds starter, and former Royal, Brady Singer over his six innings of work.&nbsp;

The Cardinals managed to open the flood gates in the ninth inning as the Reds brought on&nbsp;Alexis Díaz.&nbsp; Diaz opened the inning hitting Willson Contreras with a pitch, before retiring Alec Burleson on a pop out and Nolan Gorman on a fly out, but then what came was distaster.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Yohel Pozo singled to advance Contreras to second, and then St. Louis struck for back-to-back-to-back home runs, first seeing Victor Scott II homer to right center field.&nbsp; Lars Nootbaar followed that with a blast, also to right center, before Winn hit his second home run of the game going again to left field.&nbsp;

Miles Mikolas earned the win, his first of the season moving to 1-2, pitching 5.1 shutout innings giving up three hits and striking out four batters.&nbsp; Winn (2-3. 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB), Pozo (2-4), and Scott II (2-3, 3 RBI, 1 BB) led the way at the plate.&nbsp;

The Kansas City Royals bounced back from a series ending loss to Houston on Sunday, opening a road trip with the Tampa Bay Rays with a 3-1 win on Tuesday night at&nbsp;George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The Royals built their lead early in the game, scoring a run in the first on an RBI double by Salvador Perez, driving in Jonathan India who led the inning off with a single, before adding another run in the second inning with a sacrifice fly by Kyle Isbel to score Drew Waters, building an early 2-0 lead through the first two innings.&nbsp;

Tampa Bay did cut the lead to one in the fourth inning on a leadoff home run by&nbsp;Junior Caminero, but after that the Rays were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, and Kansas City put the final insurance run needed in the top of the ninth when Freddy Fermin singled to drive in Maikel Garcia, putting the Royals up 3-1.&nbsp;&nbsp;Carlos Estévez allowed a single in the bottom of the nintb, but went on to record his eighth save.&nbsp;

Michael Lorenzen earned the win, moving to 3-3 on the season, pitching six innings and giving up four hits and one run, striking out four and walking two.&nbsp; &nbsp;Fermin led the way at the plate going 3-4 with one RBI.&nbsp; Bobby Witt Jr singled in the eighth inning to salvage his hit streak, extending it to 20 games.

As the Royals and Rays continue their series on Wednesday, it will be a special day for St. Joseph's Noah Cameron.&nbsp; Cameron, the Royals number five prospect, will make his major league debut in a spot start for the injured Cole Ragans.&nbsp; Ragans&nbsp;continues to recover from the mild left groin strain that he suffered Thursday against the Rockies.

Cameron has a 3.22 ERA in five starts, across 22.1 innings in Triple-A Omaha so far this season. In 2024, he posted a 3.08 ERA in Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A with 149 strikeouts and just 36 walks across 128.2 innings. The Royals added Cameron to the 40-man roster this past offseason, and he competed for a spot on the pitching staff in Spring Training.

St. Louis (12-17) is looking to avoid one of its worst 30-game starts to a season in the Wild Card era (since 1994). Only the 2023 Cards (10-20) got off to a worst start during that time frame.

Cardinals and Reds postponed Tuesday; doubleheader Wednesday

Bobby Witt Jr extended his career best, and MLB best, hitting streak to 19 games but the Kansas City Royals could not do much else against Houston starting pitcher Hunter Brown, falling 7-3 in Sunday's series finale.&nbsp; The loss for the Royals snapped a streak of six straight wins.

The Royals fell behind in the third inning when Kris Bubic gave up a three run home run to Yordan Alvarez.&nbsp; The Astros extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning, Chas McCormick scoring on a single from Jeremy Pena.&nbsp; The bottom of the fifth Kansas City found their way onto the scoreboard, when Witt Jr extended his hit streak with a double driving in Jonathan India.&nbsp;

Royals struggle against Brown, Astros in series finale falling 7-3

St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley gave up two runs in the ninth inning, blowing his second save of the season, but Nolan Arenado blasted a walk off home run in the bottom half as the Cardinals topped their NL Central rivals the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 at Busch Stadium Saturday afternoon.&nbsp;

It didn't appear early on however like St Louis would need to win that way though, building a 5-0 lead early on through the first four innings.&nbsp; The first run in the second inning started with a Nolan Gorman double leading off the inning, and after&nbsp;Thomas Saggese grounded out advancing Norman to third,&nbsp;Pedro Pagés hit a sacrifice fly to center field driving in Gorman to open the scoring.&nbsp;

In the third inning, Masyn Winn led off with a double and was followed up by a ground rule double by Lars Nootbaar, allowing Winn to run across home plate.&nbsp; Willson Contreras grounded out advancing Nootbaar to third base, and Brendan Donovan hit the third double of the inning to score Nootbaar to build the Redbirds lead to 3-0.&nbsp; Arenado grounded out to advance Donovan to third, and the bases ended up loaded after back to back walks to Gorman and Saggese, but&nbsp;Pagés grounded out to end the inning.&nbsp;

The Cardinals added the the final two runs, prior to the walk off home run, in the fourth inning.&nbsp; Winn hit his second double of the game after Victor Scott II flew out to open the inning.&nbsp; Nootbaar's single drove in Winn to extend the lead, and Nootbaar came around to score in the next at bat thanks to a throwing error by&nbsp;Brice Turang on a single from Contreras.&nbsp;

Milwaukee began their comeback in the fifth inning after back to back doubles by Joey Ortiz and Caleb Durbin opened the scoring for the Brewers.&nbsp; Durbin would get picked off by Cardinals starter Sonny Gray, but after&nbsp;Turang walked, he found his way home on another double in the inning, this time by&nbsp;Jackson Chourio.

The Brewers added another run in the sixth after loading the bases.&nbsp; William Contreras and Rhys Hoskins singled before Gray walked Jake Bauers.&nbsp; Contreras scored on a groundout by Joey Ortiz, Bauers being forced out at second and Ortiz reaching first safely.&nbsp; With runners on the corners and two outs, Vinny Capra flied out to right field ending the inning with Milwaukee trailing 5-3.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Leading by two runs in the top of the ninth, the Cardinals called on the ever reliable closer Helsley.&nbsp; But disaster struck quickly for Helsley, who gave up a leadoff single to&nbsp;Isaac Collins.&nbsp; Helsley retired Turang on a flyout to center field, but while facing down Chourio, Helsey gave up the sixth home run of the season to the right fielder, tying up the game.&nbsp; He bounced back following the blast, forcing Christain Yelich to ground out and Contreras to pop out to the catcher.&nbsp;

Donovan lined out sharply to center field against new Brewers reliever&nbsp;Trevor Megill to start the bottom of the ninth, but down 0-1 at the plate, Arenado came up clutch blasting the walk off home run 385 feet to left field to give St. Louis back to back wins for the first time since last week, April 13th and 14th.&nbsp;

Cardinals win second straight thanks to walk off blast by Arenado, top Brewers 6-5

The scoring started in the first inning after Jonathan India's leadoff walk was followed by a Bobby Witt Jr double, extending Witt Jr's career best hit streak to 18 games.&nbsp; After Salvador Perez popped out, Mark Cahna's deep fly ball to right field allowed India to score, moving Witt Jr to third base, but he would wind up stranded there after Maikel Garcia popped out to end the inning.&nbsp;

Astros starting pitcher Framber Valdez kept the Royals bats quiet for most of the game however, despite the win, giving up just two more hits after the Witt Jr double, the biggest coming in the fifth inning as Vinnie Pasquantino hit a solo home run over the right field bullpen, sailing 412 feet.&nbsp; A single by Cahna in the seventh would be the final hit by Kansas City.&nbsp;

Michael Wacha earned his first win of the season, moving to 1-3 on the year, pitching six shutout innings and giving up four hits while striking out six and walking two.&nbsp; Carlos&nbsp;Estévez earned his seventh save, striking out one batter in a hitless ninth inning.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Royals score second consecutive 2-0 shutout win over Astros for sixth straight win

After adding to their offensive line at the end of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs spent the second day adding several pieces on the defensive side of the ball.&nbsp;

With the 63rd pick in round two, the Chiefs added defensive tackle&nbsp;Omarr Norman-Lott from Tennessee.&nbsp; After losing Tershawn Wharton to free agency, there was a spot open alongside Chris Jones along the defensive line, a spot Kansas City will hope Norman-Lott can fill.&nbsp;

Norman-Lott recorded 44 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 9.5 sacks and one fumble recovery in two seasons for the Volunteers from .  He played three seasons at Arizona State, seeing action in 21 games with three starts and totaling 45 tackles.&nbsp;Through his entire collegiate career Norman-Lott tallied 89 total tackles and 17 TFLs.

Starting the third round, with pick 66 acquired from the Tennessee Titans in the trade which sent&nbsp;L'Jarius Sneed to Nashville, the Chiefs added another piece to their defensive line drafting&nbsp;Louisville defensive end Ashton Gillotte.

Through four seasons in Louisville, the newest Chiefs defender collected 131 total tackles, 73 solo tackles, 41 tackles for loss, and a whopping 26.5 quarterback sacks, all in 51 games played.&nbsp;Last season, Gillotte earned Second-team All-ACC honors.&nbsp; Fitting his projection, Gillotte has a ton of upside that the Chiefs and especially defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will look to bring out of him.

For a second consecutive day, Kansas City made a trade, this time to move up in the third round, trading pick 95 along with the 2026 fourth round pick acquired from the Chicago Bears for Joe Thuney to the New England Patriots for pick 85.&nbsp;

With the pick, the Chiefs added to the secondary, drafting California cornerback Nohl Williams.&nbsp;&nbsp;Williams began his collegiate career at UNLV before transferring to Cal for his last two seasons. He was a consensus All-American in his final year with the Golden Bears, also earning first-team All-ACC honors. He led FBS with seven interceptions in 2024.

In 52 total college games with 50 starts, Williams recorded 38 passes defensed, 14 interceptions, and three forced fumbles.

Williams has adequate but speed for an NFL cornerback, having clocked 4.50 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. But he has a proven nose for the ball, and his 19 bench-press reps of 225 pounds were second-best among cornerbacks who tested at the combine.

Chiefs add to defense on day two of 2025 NFL Draft

The St. Louis Cardinals narrowly escaped, but held on to top the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 on Friday night in the opener of the three game series against their NL Central rivals.&nbsp;

The Cardinals scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning.&nbsp; Brendan Donovan led the inning off with a walk and advanced to third base in the next at bat on a single by Nolan Arenado.&nbsp; Nolan Gorman pushed Donovan across to score on a deep fly ball to right field that was caught by Jackson Chourio, taking the 1-0 lead on the sacrifice fly.&nbsp;

Two more runs scored in the fifth for the Redbirds, the first coming thanks to the speed of Masyn Winn.&nbsp; Winn singled after Victor Scott II flew out to start the inning, and then stole second base with Lars Nootbaar at the plate, advancing to third on a fielding error by Brewers shortstop Joey Ortiz.&nbsp; Nootbaar singled to drive in Winn extending the lead.&nbsp; After Willson Contreras doubled, advancing Nootbaar to third, Donovan hit a single to score Nootbaar, pushing the Cardinals lead to 3-0.&nbsp;

The Brewers narrowed the lead, scoring their runs in the sixth and seventh innings.&nbsp; In the sixth, with two outs Chuorio doubled into center field with two outs, before scoring on a single by Christian Yelich.&nbsp; Then, in the seventh, Sal Frelick led the inning off with a double, chasing Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore from the game and bringing Kyle Leahy on.&nbsp; With the bases loaded, after a single by Rhys Hoskins and a walk to&nbsp;Isaac Collins, a ground out by Jake Bauers scored Frelick.&nbsp;

Cardinals hold on for series opening win over NL Central rival Brewers 3-2

Drew Waters bat stayed hot, Bobby Witt Jr had three hits, and the Kansas City Royals opened their series with the Houston Astros on Friday night with a 2-0 shutout win, moving their win streak to five games.&nbsp;

The Royals scored first in the bottom of the fifth inning after Waters doubled to lead off the inning.&nbsp; A sacrifice bunt from Freddy Fermin advanced Waters to third, before he came home to score on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Isbel.&nbsp; 

In the sixth, Kansas City added the only other run they would need, back to back singles by Vinnie Pasquantino and Maikel Garcia opened the inning before they were advanced on another sacrifice bunt, this time by Michael Massey. Pasquantino scored on a sacrifice fly by Hunter Renfroe.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Seth Lugo looked brilliant on the mound, pitching eight shutout innings and striking out eight batters and giving up just three hits while walking one.&nbsp; Lucas Erceg recorded his first save, striking out one batter&nbsp; Witt Jr led the way hitting on the day, going 3-4 at the plate.&nbsp; With his three hits, he extended his new career best hit streak to 17 games.

The Royals and Astros continue their series tomorrow.&nbsp; Michael Wacha starts for Kansas City, still searching for his first win of the season, taking on Framber Valdez for Houston.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:10pm, pregame coverage begins at 5:30 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).

Royals win fifth in a row, shutout Astros 2-0 in series opener

With the final pick traded to the Chicago Bears as part of the Bryce Young trade, with the 39th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft the Bears selected Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III.&nbsp;

Burden was a three-year starter at Missouri, working primarily in the slot for the Tigers, and a two-time first-team All-SEC selection (in 2023 and 2024). In 12 games last season, he caught 61 passes for 676 yards and six touchdowns, while adding 115 rushing yards and two touchdowns. In Missouri’s early-season win over Boston College, Burden had a season-high 117 yards on six catches and a touchdown.

As a sophomore in 2023, Burden had his most productive season as he topped 100 yards in six games, totaled 86 receptions for 1,212 yards, 14.1 yards per reception and nine touchdowns. That performance earned him a second-team All-America selection from the Associated Press, and he was a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award (given to the most outstanding receiver in college football). 

For his three-year college career, Burden tallied 192 receptions for 2,263 receiving yards and 26 total touchdowns — 21 of which were receiving TDs. He was the third-highest rated wideout — behind Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan and Texas’ Matthew Golden — on The Athletic draft expert Dane Brugler’s big board.

LBIII should fit well into the Bears offense.&nbsp;&nbsp;Chicago got their slot receiver to complement Rome Odunze and DJ Moore. In 2024, 85.3 percent of Burden’s snaps came from the slot. New Bears head coach Ben Johnson had a ton of success with Amon-Ra St. Brown as the slot receiver in Detroit. While those are lofty expectations to put on Burden, it’s a sign of how Johnson can try to incorporate him in the offense to help quarterback Caleb Williams.&nbsp;

Missouri WR Luther Burden III selected on day two with pick 39 by Chicago Bears

The Kansas City Chiefs traded pick 31 to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for pick 32, and chose Ohio State offensive lineman Josh Simmons as the final pick of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.&nbsp;

Simmons was projected as a potential top 10 pick coming into this year, before suffering a season ending injury against Oregon.&nbsp; Regardless of the injury, Simmons was one of the more popular mocked players to get drafted by the Chiefs to help solidify their offensive line.&nbsp;

Simmons spent the past two seasons as the Buckeyes’ starting left tackle after transferring from San Diego State, where he played on the opposite end of the line.&nbsp; He was limited to just six games during Ohio State’s national championship-winning season due to a knee injury suffered in his team’s 32-31 loss to Oregon in October.

Simmons, however, participated in the Buckeyes’ pro day and posted 33 reps on the bench press, which would’ve been tied for the most at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Head Coach Andy Reid says Simmons could have been a top five or ten pick had he been healthy.

"We felt was a phenomenal athlete...would have been a higher pick if he would not have been hurt," Reid says.

Reid also adds it's unknown if Simmons will participate in the rookie minicamp, but he should be available soon after.

"He will definitely be ready for training camp," Reid said. "He'll be able to do stuff before then."

Kansas City signed Jaylon Moore this offseason to help out at the left tackle position, so Simmons is most likely to compete with him if he is able to play this season after the knee injury.&nbsp;&nbsp;Moore was the backup to Trent Williams in San Francisco and looked solid in a handful of late-season starts for the 49ers. But the small sample size doesn't engender confidence for some fans, and it's hard to know the level of belief in Moore from the team's front office.

The Chiefs have seven additional picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, including three picks on Day 2 on Friday. In round two, Kansas City holds the 63rd overall pick, and in round three, the franchise holds both the 66th overall pick and the 95th overall pick.

Additionally, the Chiefs hold the 133rd overall pick in the fourth round, as well as the 164th pick from the Eagles. They also hold three picks in the seventh round of the draft. Kansas City holds the 226th overall pick, the 251st overall pick, and the 257th overall pick in the back half of the NFL Draft.

Mizzou offensive lineman Armand Membou was selected with the seventh overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night by the Jets.&nbsp; Being picked seventh overall ties Membou for the second highest pick in the draft, tied with Aldon Smith who was drafted seventh overall by the San Fransisco 49ers in 2011.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Measuring in at a powerful albeit slightly undersized 6-foot-4 and 332 pounds with 33-and-a-half inch arms at the NFL Combine, Membou is an athletic freak, running a 4.91 40-yard dash with a 34-inch vertical. What he may lack in height, Membou makes up for with quickness, agility, and excellent hand usage.

While the Jets will likely say there is an open competition, it’s fair to assume that the team will want to plug Membou in at right tackle right away. With Tyron Smith retiring and Morgan Moses gone, it’s time for a youth movement at both tackle spots — and last year’s first-round pick Olu Fashanu on the left and Membou on the right could make up a very talented pair of bookend tackles for years to come in New York.

On paper, a starting offensive line of Fashanu, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, Alijah Vera-Tucker, and Membou, from left to right, would give the Jets a very talented, and relatively young, offensive line, which could be exactly what the doctor ordered for Justin Fields as he learns a new offense.
