FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU coach Jamie Dixon wasn't going to get picky coming off the worst loss of his 17-year career.

Desmond Bane had 17 points and TCU shot 45% from 3-point range to stop a six-game losing streak with a 68-57 win over Kansas State on Saturday.

"We're too reliant on the 3," Dixon said in his alma mater's first game since shooting a season-worst 15% from beyond the arc in a 46-point loss at Texas Tech. "But there's going to be days when you shoot them better than others, and certainly today was the day."

Bane scored all 12 of his second-half points from 3-point range and finished 5 of 10 from deep, including the go-ahead shot with 6:30 remaining to start a 17-5 run to end the game. The senior also had eight rebounds, eight assists and a career-high four blocks.

"We knew (the shots) would fall at some point," Bane said. "You try to control what you can control. Control your energy, attitude, effort. That's all you can really control in this game."

Xavier Sneed had 15 points and David Sloan had 11 more for Kansas State (9-16, 2-10 Big 12, but the Wildcats lost a fifth consecutive game and clinched a fourth losing Big 12 record in the last six years under eighth-year head coach Bruce Weber.

"I thought for the most part we were pretty good defensively," Weber said. "They just made shots. There's not much you can do about it."

Jaire Grayer tied a season high with 15 points and while RJ Nembhard had 15 points and five assists in TCU's first win since Jan. 21.

Francisco Farabello had eight points, while Kevin Samuel had five points and six rebounds.

Kansas State: Frustration continues away from home for the Wildcats, who are now just 1-7 in true road games. Kansas State is winless on the road in the Big 12 and the only true road win came at UNLV back on Nov. 9.

TCU: The Horned Frogs rallied in a back-and-forth second half to avoid a seventh consecutive loss, which would have been tied for the longest losing streak in four years under Dixon. Instead, TCU swept the season series against Kansas State for the first time since joining the Big 12 in 2012-13 after a last-second win in Manhattan, Kan. back in January.

P.J. Fuller had just five points, but also had a three-point play to make it 57-52 with under six minutes to play after the initial call of an offensive foul was reversed by the officials.

TCU led by as many as 10 in the first half before Kansas State ended with a 13-2 run to take a 27-26 halftime lead.

Kansas State is at No. 24 Texas Tech on Wednesday.

Kansas State loses at TCU Saturday 68-57

JOPLIN, Mo. - Missouri Western Baseball snapped a seven-game losing skid with a victory on Saturday. The Griffons (2-7) topped the Maryville Saints (2-2) 5-4 in day two of the MIAA/GLVC Crossover in Joplin. Saturday's matchup was the first time in Griffon Baseball history that the two programs had played.

The Saints started the game offensively, scoring one run in the second inning to take the lead. The Griffons brought out the bats in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring four runs during that time and never lost the lead for the rest of the game.

Justin Wood got the start for the Griffons, striking out four batters in six innings pitched. Brian Tan came through with the save in relief of Wood, adding four strikeouts and only one hit. Tan's save is the first for 2020 for the Griffons. Ryan Louck took the loss for the Saints, allowing seven hits and four runs in six innings pitched.

- Griffon Baseball out-hit the Saints 10-8 throughout the contest. Gustavo Gonzales, Andrew Meier and Zach Hanlan recorded two hits each while Josh Robinson, Troy Davern, Alec McGehee and Colby Tam recorded one hit per Griffon.

- The Griffon defense recorded 27 putouts throughout the matchup. Chas Verduzco pulled in five assists.

- Four Griffons have now recorded above .350 batting averages for 2020: Robinson (.370, Tam (.350, Hanlan (.385) and Meier (.394).

Griffon baseball stops skid with 5-4 win over Maryville

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Brad Davison couldn't hit a shot in practice the last two days, but that changed Saturday when he scored 30 points on 8-of-11 3-point shooting to lead Wisconsin to an 81-64 win and send Nebraska to its school-record tying 10th straight loss 81-64 on Saturday.

"I've shot the ball really well outside of practice and games the last couple of weeks but some something about the games and practices that it gets me -- that's a joke," Davison said. "My teammates found me in really good spots. We did a great job moving the ball. They were trying to double get the ball out of Nate (Reuvers) and Micah (Potter's) hands inside. So I got really good looks and take advantage of them."

Two of Davison's 3-pointers came as Wisconsin took control of the game with a 21-2 early second-half run.

Trailing 43-41, the Badgers (15-10, 8-6 Big Ten) made five 3-pointers in a 4½-minute stretch that saw them go up 57-45 on D'Mtrick Trice's 3 with 13:43 remaining and take a 62-45 lead on Trice's 3 just over a minute later.

Nebraska (7-18, 2-12) stopped the damage with a Thor Thorbjarnsen 3-pointer that ended a nearly five minute scoring drought. The Huskers cut the lead to 65-55 on Kevin Cross's free throw with 7:46 left.

But a Wisconsin 8-0 spurt -- a pair of Davison 3-pointers around a Micah Potter layup -- put the Badgers up 18, 73-65, and the game out of reach with 5:16 left.

Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said Wisconsin's second half dominance came on the defensive end of the floor, just as it did three weeks ago when the Badgers scored the first 10 points in the second half to take control of a close game against Nebraska in Madison.

"Ironically, the score was exactly the same,39-38 at halftime, so there was a lot of reminders of that," Gard said. "In the second half, we were more in tune defensively. ... We made some steps forward in the second half and were able to get them under control a little bit and get some offense from our defense."

Behind Davison, Wisconsin, which averages eight 3-pointers a game, finished with 15 on 31 attempts.

The Wisconsin 3-pointers were one of the keys to the game, said Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg, who also noted the resemblance to the January loss to the Badgers.

"The second half, the urgency wasn't there," Hoiberg said. "A lot of that was due to our inability to finish at the rim. We were 1 for 11 at the rim between the second and third media timeouts. What that does is it really hurts your floor balance and transition that that's where a lot of those threes were made."

Wisconsin: It is the ninth time that Wisconsin has hit double digit shots from behind the arc this season. The Badgers hit a school record 18 3-pointers in their 82-68 win over Nebraska in January.

Nebraska: The Cornhuskers previously lost 10 straight games in the 1944-45 and 1962-63 seasons. The Huskers were coached by Jerry Bush, Hoiberg's grandfather, in the latter season in which they finished 6-19 and won only one conference game.

Following a stagnant opening two innings by both squads, the Bearcat offense went work in the top of the third, plating a run and taking the early 1-0 advantage over the Huskies. With one out, junior Jacob Pinkerton slapped a double to left-center field, giving Northwest life on the base paths. Pinkerton advanced to third and crossed home plate on wild pitches.

St. Cloud State answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the third, evening up the score at a run apiece.

The Bearcats broke the stalemate in the top of the eighth inning, scoring one run and taking a 2-1 lead. With one out, sophomore Jordan Peck reached on a fielder’s choice and was scored on the next at bat by fellow sophomore Ryan Koski. Koski notched a two-out double to left-center field, allowing Peck to score on a fielding error by the center fielder.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the bases loaded, the Huskies’ offense hit a blooper to shallow right field, allowing two runners to cross home plate and edge out the Bearcats, 3-2.

On the bump, junior Max Spitzmiller got the start for the ‘Cats, dealing seven innings. Spitzmiller allowed one run (one earned) on four hits while striking out a season-best 11.  Sophomore Alex Slocum, making his fifth appearance of the 2020 season, relieved Spitzmiller in the eighth and held the Huskies scoreless. JOPLIN, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball team lost to Missouri-St. Louis Friday 6-2 in their first game of the MIAA/GLVC Crossover in Joplin.  It's the seventh consecutive loss for the Griffons as they fall to 1-7 this season.

Andrew Meier got the start for the Griffs, striking out four batters in three innings. Unfortunately, Meier also took the loss allowing all six runs in those three innings. Jake Gilbert and Ronnie Wigginton also got on the mound as they added five strikeouts to the cause. Bobby Shallenberger got the win for the Tritons striking out six Griffons through seven innings pitched. The Tritons scored five of their six runs on four hits during the third inning from which the Griffons could not recover.

Western baseball falls to Missouri-St. Louis 6-2 in opener at Joplin

JOPLIN, Missouri - The Maryville baseball team snapped the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats's four-game win streak with a 7-1 triumph at the GLVC/MIAA Crossover on Friday.

The Saints plated one run in the second inning and two in the fourth, taking an early 3-0 advantage over the Bearcats (5-3).

Following scoreless innings by both squads in the fifth and sixth innings, Northwest clawed into the Maryville lead after freshman catcher Chase Broeker scored from second on a throwing error by the Saints, making the score 3-1 entering the final two innings of play.

Maryville answered with three runs in the eighth and one more in the top of the ninth while holding off the explosive Bearcat offense to escape with the 7-1 victory.

On the mound, senior Quintin Van Ackeren got the start for Northwest, dealing seven innings. Van Ackeren allowed four runs (four earned) on five hits while adding eight strikeouts during the outing. Fellow senior Ethan Griswold relieved Van Ackeren in the eighth, throwing the final two innings of play. Griswold allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out two Saints.

Northwest Missouri State baseball loses to Maryville 7-1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms on a three-year deal that would make Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, the home of Chiefs training camp through the 2022 season. The agreement includes an option to extend the partnership an additional two years after 2022.

As part of the new agreement, Missouri Western is making a number of updates to better serve fans, the club, the community and Missouri Western students. Most notably, this includes the development of a new seating area on the north end of the existing practice fields to better accommodate Chiefs fans who are viewing practices. These improvements are already underway and are being completed through a collaboration with the city of St. Joseph and Buchanan County. In addition, the university is taking steps and working with others to renovate Scanlon Hall in preparation for housing Chiefs players, coaches and staff. These updates will benefit both the club and university students.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms on a three-year deal that would make Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, the home of Chiefs training camp through the 2022 season. Super Bowl Champs agree to three-year deal to return to MWSU for training camp

JOPLIN, Missouri – The No. 1-ranked Northwest Missouri State men's basketball team extended its win streak to 15 in a row with a 96-75 road win over the No. 14-ranked Missouri Southern Lions on Thursday.

Northwest moved its season mark to 23-1 overall and 13-1 in MIAA play. It was the third straight 20-point plus victory margin for the Bearcats. Missouri Southern dropped to 18-5 overall and 11-3 in league play.

Redshirt freshman Luke Waters did not miss a shot and scored a career-high 19 points. Waters went 8-of-8 from the field, including a trio of three-pointers.

Sophomore Trevor Hudgins led all scorers with 33 points on 10-of-19 shooting. Hudgins knocked in 7-of-13 three-pointers and was 6-of-7 at the free throw line.

Junior Ryan Hawkins collected his seventh double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. It was Hawkins's 19th career double-double.

Sophomore Diego Bernard stuffed his stat sheet with 12 points, six assists and five rebounds.

The Bearcats buried 61.7% of their shots from the field, including 50% (13-of-26) from three-point land. Northwest shot 58.8% (20-of-34) in the first half and followed it up with 65.4% (17-of-26) in the second half.

The Lions shot a respectable 55.6% from the field but found themselves on the short end of a 21-point defeat. The Lions turned it over 11 times, while the Bearcats had five turnovers.

MSSU's Cam Martin tallied 29 points on 12-of-17 from the field and he grabbed seven rebounds to go along with three turnovers.

Northwest will return to action Saturday at Pittsburg State. Tip is set for 3:30 p.m. in Pittsburg, Kansas.

No. 1 Bearcats pull away for 96-75 win at No. 14 Missouri Southern

Griffons roll at Pitt State 95-79 for seventh straight win

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Pittsburg State (13-9, 9-5) scored the final eight points to rally and defeat the Missouri Western women's basketball team (17-6, 9-5) on Wednesday night 74-71.

The Griffons built their biggest lead of the game with 2:23 left in the game, 71-66, before the Gorillas went on an 8-0 run to win a game they led for close to 23 minutes. Missouri Western had its chances in the closing seconds. Katrina Roenfeldt missed a 3-point shot with four seconds remaining in MWSU's final possession of the game. Pittsburg State had made two free throws on their prior possession to give the Gorillas the 74-71 lead. Prior to those made foul shots, the Griffons committed a turnover with 12 seconds left down by just one. Pittsburg State had built its largest lead of the game, 47-39, with 7:11 left in the third, but the Griffons rallied for a 10-0 run to take its first lead of the second half.

Missouri Western played well offensively all night, but the Gorillas were better. On the night, Pitt State shot 53.3% from 3-point range (8-15) while the Griffons were 18.8% with just three long-range makes. Pittsburg State outscored the Griffs by one in the first quarter and two in the second quarter to take a three-point lead to halftime. The teams were dead even in the second half. Pittsburg State was whistled for just eight fouls in the game, with one ruled flagrant and the other in MWSU's final possession. Five of those fouls came in the second half. The teams were nearly even from the field, with MWSU actually making five more two-point shots.

MWSU women let late lead slip away, lose at Pittsburg State 74-71

"Opening Night has turned into a festive event in our community," Mustangs general manager Ky Turner said. St. Joe's collegiate summer baseball team will welcome two new teams to the MINK League and Phil Welch Stadium this year, the Chanute (KS) Hoots and Des Moines (IA) Prospects. “There’s a lot of interest in the MINK League among communities, and we’re excited to add two great organizations,” noted Turner, who also serves as the MINK League President.  Several traditions will continue in 2020, including honoring the armed forces with two home games on July 3 and July 4. Both games will feature post game fireworks.

One notable change to the schedule is the Mustangs Alumni game. “When we add more teams to the league, we also add more league games to the schedule. We really enjoy seeing some of our Mustangs legends from the past at Phil Welch, and we’ll now play the Alumni team every other year as a result of the league expansion. We will continue with a special night to host and recognize those players in the years we don’t match up on the field,” said Turner.

The 2020 season features one doubleheader at Phil Welch Stadium, against the Chillicothe Mudcats on June 12.

St. Joseph Mustangs release 2020 schedule

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Kansas caught West Virginia in a rare late lapse at home.

Devon Dotson scored 11 of his 15 points after halftime, Isaiah Moss had seven of his 13 points during a second-half burst and the third-ranked Jayhawks finished the game with a 9-0 run to beat the 14th-ranked Mountaineers 58-49 on Wednesday night.

Kansas (21-3, 10-1 Big 12) won for the ninth straight time and remains a game behind first-place Baylor.

"This was not artistic at all," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "It was a grind-it-out, tough road win that you have sometimes when you're going through your second round of conference (play). That was a really good road win for us."

West Virginia (18-6, 6-5) fell flat in the end after leading by as many as nine points in each half and lost at home for the first time this season.

West Virginia has the Big 12's best defense in terms of field-goal percentage, but it was Kansas that hunkered down on defense when it mattered. Kansas' Marcus Garrett had four of his five steals over the final seven minutes.

"He just took guys with the game on the line and had three steals in a row on three consecutive possessions," Self said. "He's unbelievable defensively. I thought he controlled the game on that end."

West Virginia is stumbling after rising as high as No. 12 in the AP Top 25 last month. It has lost two straight with another big test coming up Saturday at No. 1 Baylor.

Several turnovers and poor shot choices by West Virginia allowed Kansas to forge ahead for good. The Mountaineers scored just one point and failed to hit a field goal over the final six minutes.

In the key final minutes, Kansas "got the loose balls," West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said. "Every ball that got tipped in the air on a rebound, they got. They beat us to the ball."

The Jayhawks had lost in five of their previous seven trips to Morgantown. Moss said the Jayhawks knew this one was going to be another tough test.

It took some time, but Moss and Kansas finally did.

Moss made four free throws and a 3-pointer in the span of 1:10 to put Kansas ahead 54-49 with 4:42 remaining. Dotson hit four free throws in the final 2 minutes to complete the scoring.

"We won the game, but I don't know if we would have won unless Isaiah was in the game," Self said. "He really helped us."

West Virginia held a significant rebounding advantage and dominated the offensive glass in both of its meetings with Kansas. The Jayhawks made the most of a season-low 45 shot attempts Wednesday.

After the two previous games, Huggins criticized his young team, which includes a freshman and three sophomore starters, for lacking motivation, the proper attitude and attention to coaching instructions.

The Mountaineers came out strong in the first half Wednesday but were held to their lowest point production of the season. For the second time in three games they committed 19 turnovers and shot below 32% from the floor.

"I would hope that as they mature and get better and go through the grind, I would hope that they would respond and get tougher, be more active, guard better, pass better," Huggins said.

Freshman Oscar Tshiebwe held Kansas 7-footer Udoka Azubuike to nine points and seven rebounds, both under his season averages. But Tshiebwe, who led the Mountaineers with 14 points and nine rebounds, was limited to two points after halftime. West Virginia's Jordan McCabe tied a season high with 10 points.

"We know the things we need to do better," McCabe said. "That's our job, to get right back at it tomorrow."

Kansas: The Jayhawks earned a hard-to-get win in Morgantown and have taken eight of the last nine meetings against the Mountaineers.

West Virginia: The Mountaineers are in danger of losing a very high seeding in the NCAA Tournament. Last week, the NCAA penciled in West Virginia as a No. 2 seed.

Huggins missed another chance to tie North Carolina's Dean Smith for sixth among Division I coaches with 879 victories.

Kansas hosts Oklahoma on Saturday. The Jayhawks beat the Sooners 66-52 on Jan. 14 in Norman, Oklahoma.

Lamont West and Gaige Prim scored 15 points each for Missouri State (12-14, 6-7 Missouri Valley Conference).

The 97 points were a season best for Missouri State. The Bears have won two of three after a three-game losing streak.

LSU (18-6, 9-2 Southeastern Conference) trailed by eight points midway through the second half before taking the lead for good at 72-69 on Days' 3-pointer with 4:43 remaining. Missouri (11-13, 3-8) stayed close over the final minutes.

With LSU leading 76-73, Days made a short shot following an offensive rebound with 25 seconds left. After Missouri again got within three on Xavier Pinson's basket, Days made two free throws with 11 seconds left.

Following Dru Smith's 3-pointer, Javonte Smart made two free throws with 0.9 seconds left to clinch LSU's victory.

Skylar Mays led LSU with 23 points. Days also had 10 rebounds. Smart had 15 points, while Trendon Watford and Emmitt Williams each had 11.

Dru Smith led Missouri with 20 points. Reed Nikko matched his career high with 13 points, while Javon Pickett and Mitchell Smith each had 10 points.
