MARYVILLE, Missouri – The 2020 Northwest Missouri State University volleyball schedule has been unveiled with the Bearcats playing host to 10 matches.
In response to the NCAA requirements in maximum and minimum allowable contests and dates for the 2020-2021 season, the MIAA's CEO Council approved a new 20-date volleyball schedule.
Northwest will play home matches in Bearcat Arena against Central Missouri (Sept. 18), Missouri Western (Sept. 19), Missouri Southern (Sept. 25), Pittsburg State (Sept. 25), Washburn (Oct. 16), Emporia State (Oct. 17), Fort Hays State (Oct. 30), Nebraska-Kearney (Oct. 31), Central Oklahoma (Nov. 6) and Newman (Nov. 7).
The Bearcats will play both Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State at home on Sept. 25. The Bearcats and Lions will square off at noon, followed by the Bearcats and Gorillas at 7 p.m. The teams will also double up on Oct. 23 with Northwest playing at Pittsburg State at noon and then making the trip to Joplin to take on Missouri Southern at 7 p.m. This will allow Northwest to schedule up to two more dates of non-conference competition in 2020.
The top six teams will qualify for the MIAA Tournament and it will be played over two days in mid-November.
Ninth-year head coach Amy Woerth led Northwest to the program's first back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2018 and 2019 since 1998 and 1999. Northwest's 21-win campaign in 2019 was the third 20-win season in four years. The Bearcats reached as high as No. 10 in the AVCA Top 25 poll in 2019, marking the highest ranking in program history.
