With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Dixie Joan Stoneking Ruhnke, who peacefully entered eternal rest on February 23, 2025, at the age of 82.

Born on November 6, 1942, in Trenton, Missouri, to Mack and Pebble Stoneking, Dixie spent her early years in Humphries, Missouri, where she attended school, played basketball and was chosen as the band’s majorette. She later moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, before eventually settling in Kansas City, where she built a life filled with love, adventure and cherished memories.

A devoted believer in Christ, Dixie found strength in her faith and was a longtime member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church. She lived a life full of curiosity and adventure, loving to travel and taking many trips with her children, grandchildren, sister, brother-in-law and nieces, creating memories that will be forever cherished.

Among her many roles in life, none were more treasured than being "Nanny" to her five grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She adored them immensely, finding joy in their laughter and growth. Family was at the heart of everything she did, and she was a source of unwavering love, warmth and wisdom.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry Edward Ruhnke Sr., her son Henry (Heindrick) Edward Ruhnke Jr., her older sister Betty Stoneking Smith and her infant brother James Owen Stoneking. She is survived by her devoted children, Joanna Ruhnke Dixon (Jason) and Brian Ruhnke; her grandchildren, Drew Dixon (Amber), Ashlyn Dixon, Blake Dixon, Alexa Dixon, and Amara Ruhnke; and her cherished great-grandsons, Graham Dixon and Elliot Dixon. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Mary Stoneking Glidewell (Dean), as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

She enjoyed her morning coffee, staying informed with the latest news, and sharing a special bond with the beloved cats and dogs she had over the years. Dixie also had a passion for flowers and took great joy in planting and nurturing them. Her career spanned many years in banking and at Dillard’s, and she was also a devoted homemaker, caring for her family with dedication and love.

Dixie’s kindness, strength, and quick wit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing she is reunited with those she dearly missed.

Dixie’s love and light will forever remain in our hearts.

Betty Ann Olson, 89, of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on February 23, 2025, at Amberwell Hiawatha. She was born on September 12, 1935, in Rulo, Nebraska, to Russell Adams and Alice (Steinhaur) Adams. Betty was one of 12 children and lived most of her life in northeast Kansas.

Betty graduated from Falls City High School in 1953. She worked as a telephone operator in Robinson, where she met and married the love of her life, Herbert E. Olson. The couple wed in Highland on July 10, 1955, and together they raised seven children filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Hiawatha. She enjoyed camping, attending Elks Club events, and in her early married life, was a member of the Dozen and a Half Club in Highland.

Betty worked for many years as a cook at Robinson Elementary and Junior High School, where her warm meals and kind heart touched many lives. She also worked as a CNA at several nursing homes and at the Hiawatha Hospital.

Betty’s legacy will live on through her six surviving children: Doug (Lisa) Olson of Hiawatha; Teresa (Gary) Campbell of Clarksdale, MO; Pamela (Steven) Gunnells of Nolensville, TN; Steve (Robin) Olson of Burlington Junction, MO; Charles (Teresa) Olson of Hiawatha; and Jeff (Margaret) Olson of Hiawatha. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, and one brother Roy Adams of Lincoln, NE. &nbsp;

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Herbert, one son Rick, and four brothers and six sisters.

Betty will be remembered for her selfless devotion to her family, her kindness, and her strength. &nbsp;She made an impact on everyone she encountered. Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Betty’s Eternal Life is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Hiawatha, with Pastor Michael Lehmann officiating. &nbsp;Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson.

Betty Ann Olson 1935 - 2025

Eva Lucille Zachary Boswell passed away February 22, 2025 peacefully at Tiffany Heights nursing home in Mound City, MO. She was 96 years old.

Born January 9, 1929 on the family farm in Maitland, MO, she was the eighth of nine children of Oye and Elsie (Prussman) Bowland. She was a lifelong resident of Holt County, MO and was a graduate of Mound City High School.&nbsp;

She married Robert Willis Zachary on November 3rd, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 15th, 1985. She then married Wayne Delos Boswell on February 14, 1990. He preceded her in death on May 4th, 2009.

Lucille was a farmers wife, working in the fields right along with her husband Willis. She was an avid gardener, especially with flowers. She was a Garden Club member for almost 70 years. She was well-known for her irises and daylilies. She received the State Gardener Award of Honor in 2009 from Federated Gardeners of Missouri. This award led to having a beautiful daylily named after her, the Lucille Boswell. She was a member of the CrossPointe Community Church in St. Joseph, MO.

She started going to Texas for the winter in 1973 with her husband and continued this tradition for 42 years. She and Wayne loved to travel and her favorite trips were to Alaska and Israel, where she was baptized in the Jordan River.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her siblings, Alice Baxter, Lee Bowland, Lorene Davison, Maurice Bowland, Glen Bowland, Lynn Bowland, and Donna Mae Heck; her husbands, Robert Willis Zachary and Wayne Boswell; a sister-in-law, Helen Thiesfield; brothers-in-law, Richard Zachary, Paul Zachary, and Milan Boswell; stepson, Lyle Boswell; and great grandson, Reed Zachary Geib.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Geib; brother, Kenneth Bowland; grandchildren, Carrie (Ken) Thom, Kyle (Marcia) Geib, Camille (Chris) Lucito; great grandchildren, Willis and Caden Wilson, Cole, Jake, Luke and Lane Lucito, and Landon and Ann Geib; brother-in-law, Ralph Zachary; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Boyle, Kit Zachary and Myrt Dunigan; stepdaughters, Teresa (Wayne) McGinness and Angie (Richard) White; and several nieces and nephews.

John Oliver Finney 81, of Agency, Missouri, passed away February 22, 2025.

He was born July 15, 1943 to Homer and Mary Finney. John graduated from Faucett High School and later served his country in the Air National Guard.

In August of 1966 he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Moser. They made their home on a farm just north of Faucett.

John worked for the St. Joseph Stockyards and Santa Fe Railroad before becoming a farmer full time. Farming was a true passion of John’s. He loved every aspect of it no matter if times were good or bad. He still had goals for the farm up until the very end.

John loved International Harvester tractors and proudly owned over 30. He shared that love with his family taking his beloved 806 on tractor cruises and later encouraging his grandson into tractor pulling. John also loved horses. He spent many years as a devoted horse show dad to his daughter and later himself became an avid competitor in team penning.

John was a community icon at the Farris Truck Stop in Faucett. He drank countless cups of coffee discussing all the local happenings at the “loafer’s table.” He loved to tell stories of days gone by and he definitely had some worth telling. He enjoyed being with friends and going on road trips any chance he could.

John was always in attendance for any activity his family was taking part in. He was so proud of his grandson’s and all their accomplishments. He loved watching football and was a big Chiefs fan.

John is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn and sister Mary Ellen.

He is survived by his daughter Andrea Veatch, son in law Chris Veatch, and grandsons Barrett and Blane; sister Dorothy Woodward (Eddy), brother William Finney; several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

John Oliver Finney 1943 - 2025

William “Don” Linville, 81, Atchison, KS died at home on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025.

Don was born on Feb. 13, 1944, in Trenton, MO the son of Hardy M. and Mildred “Maxine” (Weldon) Linville. He graduated from Gallatin High School in 1962. Don served in the Air National Guard. He started at Hallmark Cards, he later owned and operated Linville Ford Mercury Dealership, and after retiring worked part-time for Lewis Chevrolet. He enjoyed photography, car racing, fishing and going to the casino. Don was always in search of the best tenderloin sandwich and enjoyed his dog ‘Izzy’.

He was married to Sharon Ann (Atwell) on Dec. 22, 1962. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2013. Survivors include daughter Beth Linville, Atchison, grandson Parker Linville, Atchison, a sister Judi McCloud, Gallatin, MO, and a special friend and neighbor May Brown. She describes Don as a wonderful man, the world is a better place because Don Linville was in it. His parents, a brother Larry Linville, and sister Pam Sutton also preceded him in death.

Cremation is planned with no services being held. The Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Don Linville 1944 - 2025

Michael David Browning, 67, Pattonsburg, Missouri, passed away at his home after a courageous, long, hard battle with cancer on Monday, February 24.&nbsp;He was born December 28, 1957 in St. Joseph, Missouri to the late Eugene L. Browning Sr &amp; Peggy Josephine Smith. 

He moved to Pattonsburg to live with his parents, where he provided tender loving care until their passings. He was a graduate of Benton High School in 1976, where he played football, basketball, baseball, and played football his freshman year at Missouri Western State College.&nbsp;Michael was known as a hardworking man who loved living the simple life. He loved life itself. He had a big personality, was strong willed, yet kind and soft hearted, willing to lend a helping hand to anyone if he could. He was a people's person, made friends easily, and was quite the jokester, quoting little lines from movies in an animated way when the occasion arose to have a good laugh. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, and just sitting out on his porch with his beloved cats, Charlie, Little-Bit, and Baby Cat catching the breeze.&nbsp;

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Eugene "Stoney" Browning Jr., and nephew, Ryen Browning. 

Survivors include: his son, Aaron (Megan) Browning, daughter, Jessica Sipes, sister, Pamela (Richard) Mooney, two grandchildren, Madison and Henry, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. We would like to thank Comfort Care Hospice and Palliative Care Services of Cameron, Missouri for their kindness and the excellent care provided.

Faye Ella Atkins, 92, Savannah, Missouri, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 23, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Faye was born on December 4, 1932 in Fillmore, MO to Zelma and Ammon Steeby. Faye attended Savannah High School. She was united in marriage to Billy Joe Atkins on March 20, 1951 in Savannah, Missouri. Together they raised five children. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2009. &nbsp;

A graveside service will be held at Fillmore Cemetery Saturday, March 8th, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with a memorial luncheon to follow at Fillmore Community Hall.

David was born in Maryville, Missouri to Vancil Icke and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Pope Icke.&nbsp;Dave grew up in Barnard, Missouri, where he attended school. 

He participated in many activities, but excelled at basketball and track. He was also chosen to attend Boys State his Senior year of high school.&nbsp;After graduation Dave attended technical school in Chillicothe, MO and went on to work for Sears Roebuck and Co., where he retired after 32 years of service. 

Dave's love of travel led to a short stint of truck driving after retirement. Truck driving was a highlight of his working career.&nbsp;David was married 3 times. 

From those marriages 4 children were born. Lisa Icke Simbro, Latisha Little (Jared), Cody Icke and Bliss Icke. He also had 2 step children; Travis Atkins (Christina) and Amy Lujan (Luis). David also had 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Dave was an ornery, fun-loving guy. His favorite pastimes were racing, traveling the country (especially by train) and attending his grandchildren's athletic events.&nbsp;

David was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, granddaughter Emma Danielle Simbro, cousin/brother Reggie Icke Simerly, Reggie's daughter, Tina Bonnett, and his beloved dog, Louie.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 1-3:30pm at the Knights Of Columbus Hall at 1205 North 49th&nbsp;Terrace.

Tracy DeVee Warner, 56, Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

She was born on June 21, 1968, to Dean and Carole Warner, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Those who knew Tracy will fondly remember her infectious laughter and the vibrant energy she brought to every room. Her love for comedy, music, and the thrill of diamond art were outshone only by the adoration she had for her family.

Ruth Young, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

She was born August 7, 1933 in Dora, Missouri to Fred and Lola (Shipley) Ingram.

Ruth married James Maxwell Young in January 1951. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2015.

Ruth enjoyed traveling. She and Jim spent much of the summer months at Lake of the Ozarks, where they owned property. Each summer they would travel for three weeks visiting National Parks, monuments, places of interest, and Jim’s brother, John Young, in Long Beach, California. They also visited Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary. Ruth and eight of her high school friends took trips together every summer. They took twenty-two trips together traveling to favorite sites including Canada and Hawaii. She also traveled with her church group to Venezuela.

In addition to traveling, Ruth collected antiques and jewelry. She also was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Association.

Ruth had many close and devoted friends whom she loved dearly.

She loved working with two of her favorite doctors, Dr. Dan Smith and Dr. Doug Stokes of the St. Joseph Orthopedic Clinic.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Maxwell Young; her adored daughter, Rene Roth; her parents, Fred and Lola Ingram; sisters, Jean (Lloyd) Thompson and Bernadine (Kenneth) Thompson; and son-in-law, Thomas Nelson.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Taira Nelson; grandchildren, Blake Roth (Julie), who was extremely attentive and helpful, and Taira Roth; great-grandchildren, Alaina, George, Harper, and Fynn Roth; and James Roth; and nieces, Brenda Finnegan (Bill), Marilyn McQuinn (Dale), Jennifer Ward (Gary), and Karen Yoakum (Bill). Her three kitties, Tucker, Cowboy, and Blueberry brought her much joy.

Ruth Young 1933-2025

James “Jim” Fielding Dale, Jr., 82, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at a local health care facility. Jim was born on May 2, 1942, to James Fielding Dale, Sr., and Margaret (Wyeth) Dale. He moved with his parents to St. Joseph from Maryville, MO, in 1947. After attending Western Reserve Military Academy in Alton, Illinois, Jim graduated from Central High School in 1961, later earning a B.A. degree from Parsons College, Fairfield, IA, in 1966. Jim’s first job out of college was at the former Wyeth Company, his grandfather John Wyeth’s wholesale hardware business. Later Jim was employed at the former Dugdale Packing Company of St. Joseph, a supplier of premium beef for many years. Jim at first hauled beef sides on the kill floor, but gradually worked up to the position of assistant purchasing agent.

His employment was interrupted by the Vietnam War. Jim volunteered in the U.S. Marine Corps, first training at Camp Pendleton, CA. Jim served in Third Company, Third Battalion, Third Marines but later contracted nearly-fatal malaria during his 14-month tour of combat duty. He received the Presidential Unit Citation, The National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and The Rifle Marksman Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1971 with the rank of sergeant.

Jim continued to work at Dugdale’s until the plant closed in the mid-1970’s. Afterwards, he found a supervisory position at Carnation Pet Food in St. Joseph for two years. Later, he purchased Charles Chips, a distributorship of quality snack food that made Jim (aka “Charlie Chips”) a household and office word all over town for eight years. After selling the Charles Chips distributorship, Jim went to work at his final, favorite job with Hall Title and Abstract (later First American Title and Abstract) owned by his high school friend Steve Crawford.

Throughout his life Jim enjoyed athletics. He played varsity football at Central High School, then later in life ran in several city triathlons. He also competed in “Biking Across America” rides across four states: Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri, on some treks accompanied by his friend from childhood, Beverly Pitts.

He married Roxanne Decker on August 15, 1970, in Scottsdale, Arizona. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers Thomas Lee Dale, John Wyeth Dale, and a first cousin, Natalie Bradley Ray.

Survivors include his sisters Leila Dale Hicks and Shirley Dale Lawrence, nephews James Dale Lawrence of Kansas City, MO, Phillip Lawrence of Woodbury, MN, Scott Lawrence of Tokyo, Japan, Thomas Dale of Naples, Florida, Alicia Dale Halpin of Glen Carbon, IL, and Elliot Hicks, of St. Joseph. Additional survivors include numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Kelly was born on 1/7/61 in Leavenworth, KS, to Marilyn and Bill Vance, who predeceased him. He leaves behind daughter LeAnn, son Christopher (Brian Laning), brother Mark, sister and devoted caregiver Michelle Vance Taylor, and many other relatives and friends.

Kelly graduated from Leavenworth HS in 1979 and the University of Saint Mary in 1992. He was a master painter and wallpaper and made many areas beautiful with his work. He was a Royals and Chiefs fanatic, and a theatre enthusiast. His passion for performing would bring many good people into his life, as he shared his talents acting and directing in community, grade, high school, &amp; college programs in Kansas and Wisconsin.

A service will be planned at a later date.

Danny Lee Masoner passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 18th, 2025 in his home in Weston, Missouri. At the time of his passing he was 68 years old.

Danny was born in Fort Hood, Texas and raised in Weston, Missouri. He graduated from West Platte High School in 1974. Danny married Cindy (Large) July 12th 1975, after dating since 1971. Together they have three children, Randy Masoner (wife Leigh Anne), Danette Shepardson (husband Anthony), Lani Barnes (husband Josh), 10 grandchildren: Brett Shepardson (26), Hailey Shepardson (21), Colby Shepardson (19), Xane Masoner (18), Blaze Masoner (16), Layn Kear (15), Avery Masoner (12), Asher Masoner (newborn), Jordy Barnes (6), Charli Barnes (3), and one great-grandchild Maisie Shepardson (2) plus a second on the way.

Danny is survived by his wife Cindy, three children Randy, Danette, and Lani, his 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, his sister Brenda Bless, and nephews Bill Masoner and Brandon Masoner. He is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Ruth Masoner, and his brothers Timmy and Mike Masoner.

Besides his family, Danny loved chocolate, a good steak, mowing grass, a good murder-mystery show, his Missouri Tigers and socializing at various sporting events of kids and grandkids. He was also very proud and loved to coach his kids in any sport they were participating in. He was a caring person, always willing to help, going above and beyond for others. People in his community of Weston knew they could count on him when needed. He was a father-figure to many. For 49 years, Danny worked at the Weston Water Treatment Plant. Even after retirement, Danny’s expertise was used in a part-time role at the Water Plant. Danny was always proud of the quality of water for the Weston community. Danny and Cindy’s homes were always full with family and friends, especially for Sunday dinners where a meal would feed any that wanted to join. Danny will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and members of the Weston community.

Born August 20, 1952, to Donald G and Muriel C (Turner) Wright of Weston, Mo, he attended West Platte High School in Weston, Mo and was a veteran of the US Navy. His profession was truck driving / heavy equipment operator with over 27 years with Frederick Excavating. He also had a passion for music, with live performances with his bands and with the professional recordings he made.

He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, Bonnie Wright of the home, three sons and three step sons, and numerous grandchildren.

Tammy Parks Barnett took her final breath on Earth and took her first steps in Paradise on February 18th, 2025. She was surrounded by the people she loved and cared for most. Tammy was 59 years young.

Tammy was born on June 4th, 1965, to Charlie and Shirley Parks. Tammy adored her parents and frequently sought advice and guidance as she was growing up. Tammy was blessed to grow up with the two best brothers; Charles Lee and Brian Keith. Tammy had a wonderful childhood being brought up in such a close and loving family. She was constantly around her Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. The bond they shared was one of a kind and Tammy was truly blessed because she was able to make the very best memories with them that she held on to. Tammy graduated from East Buchanan High School in 1983.

Tammy would tell you that her life really began when she became a Mother and gave birth to the first love of her life, Cody. A few years later, Tammy gave birth to her “Mini Me”, Hannah. 9 years later, she welcome two precious and strong boys; Dillon and Dakota. Her love for her children was undeniable, through the hard times and the best times. Tammy knew what she was put on this Earth for, and that was to be called Mom. Whether it was toting her twin boys around to Cody and Hannahs athletics, always running a kid to this practice or this game or this event, Tammy was there… for everything. Tammy will always cherish her children.

As time would pass, she gained another purpose in life; becoming NANA. Being a NANA was the absolute best. Although she enjoyed raising her own children, she greatly enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and then sending them back home. Tammy shined when she received this title. She always said, “The love you have for your own children will never compare to the love you have for your Grandchildren!” Raife and Aubriegh brought back a sparkle in her life when she so desperately needed it.

Tammy really never knew her life was not complete until she met Darrin. Her Kowboy. Darrin filled a void that her children and grandchildren couldn’t even fill. He wasn’t her Knight in shining armour, he was her Kowboy wearing spurs. Along with Kowboy, came his children; Kaylee, Kolby and Kagen. Tammy loved and treated them like her own. Now her family was complete and she married Darrin on October 10, 2020, when they joined two families to make one.

If you knew Tammy, you knew love. You knew nothing but laughter and her beautiful, contagious smile. Her smile could make anyone’s darkest days, brighter. The love she had for her family was something remarkable.

When Tammy and Hannah were sitting through multiple chemo treatments, Hannah would often ask her about some of her favorite memories. She would always tell stories of her childhood and how she had the absolute best brothers. She would tell stories of all of her time spent with her

cousins on the Brown and Parks side. She cherished those memories. She would continuously talk about how raising her children wasn’t ever easy, but it was so easy loving them. Tammy reflected on being such a major part of Raife and Aubrieghs lives and how she has enjoyed watching them both become young men and women. She loved capturing life’s moments through her lens. Taking pictures was her passion and she never once let cancer get in her way of that. She enjoyed listening to Dakota play music and often times would ask him to sing to her. Tammy said that her most favorite memory as a mother was helping her only daughter, Hannah, plan her wedding and being a part of every aspect and every detail. She said watching her beautiful daughter walk down the aisle to marry the love of her life, Ryan, will always hold a feeling in her heart that will never diminish.

Tammy was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Earl and Nadine Parks, maternal grandparents George and Helen Brown, grandson Jaxon.

Tammy is survived by her loving parents Charlie and Shirley and brothers Charles Lee and wife Shelly and Brian Keith and wife Jennifer. Tammy is survived of the home by her incredibly faithful, devout and adoring husband Darrin and fur babies, Roper, Roughy and Rein. Tammy leaves behind her most cherished possessions, her children; her handsome son Cody and wife Autumn, her beautiful daughter Hannah and husband Ryan and her precious twin boys Dillon and Dakota and his partner Haven; her step children Kaylee, Kolby and wife Stephanie, Kagen and his partner Courtney. Tammy will continue to watch over her grandchildren Raife and Aubriegh, Bryar and Landon and step grandchildren Blake, Cayden, Easton, Emmalyn, Creighton, Knox and Whitley who is arriving in June. She leaves a niece Allysson and several nephews; Chase, Tyler, Drew and Blake, 8 great nieces and nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.

Marilyn was born February 26, 1948, in Concordia, Kansas, the daughter of Harland and Edna (Greiveldinger) Grand Pre. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Atchison High School in 1966.&nbsp;

She worked for many years at the Atchison Hospital serving in the dietary department.&nbsp;

Marilyn was a member of St. Benedict Parish. She enjoyed watching television, especially her wrestling broadcasts. She also liked going to the casino to play BINGO.&nbsp;

Marilyn is survived by her sister, Edonna “Jane” Seager, Atchison, KS, a sister-in-law, Sandra Grand Pre, Cummings, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by a brother, Arland Grand Pre, and a sister Debbie Grand Pre.&nbsp;

Marilyn Grand Pre 1948-2025

George Andrew Kelley, Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, with his beloved wife, Rita, by his side. Born in Atchison, Kansas, to Mary Cluke and Guy Kelley, Sr., George was a man of faith, family, and service.

He attended Lincoln School and graduated from Atchison High School before continuing his education at Highland Community College, where he was a talented multi-sport athlete, excelling in basketball, football, and track. His athletic journey continued at St. Benedict College, where he played basketball prior to his military service.

On March 2, 1965, George was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served honorably as a radio operator until his discharge on June 30, 1967. His time in the military took him across Germany, where he played semi-professional basketball. He continued his service in the Army Reserves until 1970.

On February 21, 1970, George married the love of his life, Rita Irene Boldridge, at Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church. Together, they built a life filled with love, music, and adventure.

George’s career path led him to work at LFM while serving in the Army Reserves. In 1971, he transitioned to Pillsbury, where he worked until 1987, before spending 17 years at MGP Ingredients, retiring on June 30, 2004.

A gifted musician, George loved singing and playing the guitar with his family, especially alongside his brother, Dude Kelley. He wrote and arranged many family songs, filling their home with music and joy. He and Rita shared a love for horses, participating in horse shows and parades with the Boldridge Family Riders. A self-proclaimed "city boy with a country heart," he enjoyed camping, fishing, and trading with local traders, particularly relishing his part-time work at the Salvation Army, where he had first dibs on the best bargains.

George’s hands were never idle—he built everything from trailers and go-karts to sheds and clubhouses. His vivid storytelling captivated those around him, often illustrating his tales with hand-drawn pictures. A man of deep faith, he was a dedicated member of Shiloh Baptist Church, serving as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and superintendent of Sunday School.

Above all, George cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Rita Kelley of Atchison, KS; his children, George A. (Charo) Kelley, Jr. of Atchison, KS, Lori A. (Allie) Kelley of Atchison, KS, and Danelle G. (Timothy) Wolfe of Tulsa, OK; his brother, Otha H. "Dude" (Anna) Kelley of Atchison, KS; his sister, Viola V. (Oddis) Lewis of Detroit, MI; six beloved grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by five brothers: Guy (Wynona) Kelley, Jr., James (Loretta) Kelley, Marion (Cheryl) Kelley, William Kelley, and Michael McNair; and four sisters: Sylvia (Frank) Busey, Ethel (Clifford) Downing, Loretta (Richard) Downing, and Eleanor (Elmo) Garlington.

George’s legacy of faith, love, music, and storytelling will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His was a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed.

Services will be Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Kelley officiating. &nbsp;Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. &nbsp;Visitation with the family will be from Noon until time of services at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Jo Ann Dotson, 87, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday February 18, 2025, in her home.

Jo Ann was born on December 7, 1937, in the family home at Sugar Lake, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Irene (Brown) Black. Jo Ann married Carl E. Dotson on March 5, 1955, he preceded her in death on October 9, 2011. Jo Ann was an avid reader throughout life, she also enjoyed her antiques, doing crossword puzzles, sitting on her deck swing, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Alan Wayne Ellerman, 62, of Old Huron, Kansas died Feb. 16, 2025, at Mosaic Life Care surrounded by family and friends.

Alan was born on July 7, 1962, in Winchester, Kansas, the son of Albert (LeRoy) and Sally (Kloepper) Ellerman. He attended Atchison County Community High School and Northeast Kansas Area Vo-Technical School graduating in 1980. Two days after graduation, he started working for Atchison County Road and Bridge for thirty-four years before retiring to be a full-time cattleman and farmer. He was a quiet, but active member of the Atchison County Fair Horse Show Committee, NEKSAG, and Huron Saddle Club. He was a lifetime member of the AQHA and supporter of Atchison County 4-H. Alan was passionate about his livestock, taking pride in breaking horses, good dogs, and tending cattle. He also enjoyed hunting, shooting, and fishing when time allowed. Above all his family was his greatest joy.

He married Margo Schecher on July 30, 1988, and she survives at home. Additional survivors include his daughter, Tara Jo (Aaron) Bina, granddaughters, Margaret Kay and Ainsley Jo Bina, parents, LeRoy and Sally Ellerman, brother, Ray (Mary) Ellerman and sister Julie (Dirk) Jamvold, as well as several nieces and nephews and many friends considered family.

Peggy C. Emery, 87, of Atchison, KS, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Gran Villas, Atchison, KS.

Peggy was born May 9, 1937, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Pickerel) Betts. She worked for Saunders Mop Factory for over twenty years. Peggy was of the Catholic faith and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, they filled her with great joy. Peggy also liked old movies, music and helping people when she could.

Peggy is survived by three daughters, Janet and Bill Franken, Wathena, KS, Debra Miller, Leavenworth, KS, Cathy and Les Shufflebarger, Atchison, KS, a son Thomas Junk, Chesterbrook, PA, two sisters, Sally Brady, and Judy Hayes, nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Terry Junk, six brothers, Walter, Lloyd, Robert, William, Jim and Mike Betts, three sisters, Juanita Betts, Rita Reiff and Lisa Piper and a grandson.

Visitation with the family will be at a later date at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with a burial of cremated remains following at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Emery, 87, of Atchison, KS, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Gran Villas, Atchison, KS.Peggy was born May 9, 1937, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Pickerel) Betts. Linda Lou George, 76, a lifelong resident of Savannah, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025, surrounded by her family. &nbsp;

Linda was born on January 30, 1949, in Maryville, MO to Harold Walter &amp; Clara May (Oliver) Martin. Linda attended school in Savannah and graduated with the class of 1967. &nbsp;She was united in Holy Matrimony to Thomas (Tommy) Ray George on May 6, 1967, at the First Christian Church in Atchison, KS. Their nearly 58-year union was blessed with two children, Melinda Sue and Timothy Martin, three grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. &nbsp;Linda’s family was her most cherished possession. &nbsp;She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and care giver to many family members and friends. &nbsp;

Linda’s love for flowers lead her to buy her own Flower Shop – Linda’s Flowers and Gifts – that she lovingly ran for over 5 years, after working there for several years prior. &nbsp;Her love for flowers continued for the remainder of her life. &nbsp;If you ever drove by and saw Tommy and Linda sitting out on their front porch or down by the pond, they were always surrounded by her beautiful flowers.

Linda had a caregiver’s heart as evidenced by all the family members she took care of and then later when the grandchildren started to arrive. No one could make Linda smile more than when she had the grandchildren sitting on her chair with her. &nbsp;There was always room on Grandma/Grammy’s lap, no matter how big they got. &nbsp;

Linda is survived by her husband, Tommy, of the home; daughter, Melinda (Kyle) Morrison and Son, Tim (Angie) George both of Savannah, MO; grandchildren, Cody (Tasha Rose) Morrison, Caleb Morrison, and Berkley George; great-grandchildren, Harley Morrison and Maverick Krueger as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and close friends.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Clara; and her Sisters, Nancy Preston and Donna Smith.

Memorial visitation and family receiving hours will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Breit Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah, MO. &nbsp;Inurnment will be at a later date for the immediate family.&nbsp;

Cynthia Lynn Hendrix 64, of St. Joseph, Missouri, &nbsp;passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025 in Kansas City, MO. She was born August 25, 1960 in St. Joseph, daughter of Betty Dryden and Dustin Short. She attended Belton High School. She married Brad on February 7, 1999. Cynthia mainly worked with Brad on construction projects, along with many other things. She enjoyed fishing, camping, horse back riding, and just being outdoors with nature. She loved her family, they were her pride and joy through all the good and bad times, and she was a member of &nbsp;Grace Calvary Chapel.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her mother, and brother, Billy Dryden. &nbsp; Janie Sue Lent, 71, of Skidmore, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at a Mound City, MO care facility. She was born April 3, 1953 in Rosendale, MO, daughter of Naoko and Aceph Stinnett. Janie graduated from Nodaway Holt High School, class of 1971. She worked at Energizer for many years. Janie enjoyed hunting for artifacts and rocks. She also enjoyed painting and a good conversation. Janie was preceded in death by her parents whom raised her, Aceph and JoAnn Stinnett, mother, Naoko Monguchi, siblings, Danny Stinnett, Sandra Gillenwater, Debbie Teegarden, and Bob Perry. Survivors include: son, Jason Lent of St. Joseph, daughter, Rhonda Lent of Skidmore, siblings, Terry Stinnett, Scott Spillman, Gail McMurray, and Nita Poppa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
