Janice Lynn Kneisley, age 62, of Hiawatha, passed away peacefully February 8, 2021 due to lung cancer.

&nbsp;She was born February 3, 1959 in Manhattan, Kansas to Bob and Sue Snyder. She was married to her husband, Kevin Kneisley, on October 23, 1993.

Her focus in life was education and teaching, spending her last 18 years working in Special Education. She was the 1st&nbsp;and 2nd&nbsp;Grade Special Education teacher at Hiawatha Elementary. In 1977, she graduated from Manhattan High School. In 1981, she earned a BS in Journalism and Mass Communication from Kansas State University. During her final days, she was working on her Masters’ degree in Special Education; She was nine hours shy of receiving her degree.

Janice is survived by her husband, her two sons Kristopher and Korey Kneisley, her mother Sue Snyder, her sisters Kathy Ylander (David) and Jackie Garibay (José). She has influenced and touched a lot of lives and she will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her father Bob Snyder.

A celebration of Janice’s life is planned for 2 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2021, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha.&nbsp; Cremation will follow services with private inurnment at a later date at Albany Cemetery, Sabetha.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Thursday where the family will meet from 4 until 6 p.m. that afternoon.

She was born December 17, 1950 in Las Animas, Colorado to Franklin and Mable (Ritchie) Miller.

Jacquee married Walter Almanza September 8, 1984; he preceded her in death March 21, 2014.

She was an incredibly talented woman. She loved to sew, make quilts, paint, make china dolls, do woodworking, and cross stitch.

Jacquee enjoyed spending time with her entire family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 30 years, Walter; her parents; and sister, Nancy Kerns.

“Jack” John Peter Barclay, Jr., 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully from an abundance of birthdays, Saturday, February 6, 2021.

He was born January 16, 1930 in New Haven, Connecticut to John Peter and Leola Mae Barclay. As a boy in New Haven, Jack attended Hopkins School, then matriculated from Dartmouth College (1952) and Tuck Business School (1954).

Jack met the love of his life on an airplane. Billie Kissane was a lovely and intelligent flight attendant. Jack married Billie Jewell Kissane on December 12, 1967. They built their life in Saint Joseph, where they raised their two sons. She preceded him in death.

Jack’s father, J.P. Barclay, Sr., founded Wire Machinery Corporation of America in New Haven, Connecticut in 1923, and in 1931 renamed the company Wire Rope Corporation of America, Inc. The corporation and family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, in 1950.

After two years of service in the Army, Jack served as chairman and chief executive officer of Wire Rope Corporation of America, Inc. from 1957-2003.

Jack made his mark in the community in many ways. He was a former board member and past president of Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art. He was a leading member of the organization that was responsible for the construction of the gallery (early 1990s) that makes up the major portion of the current museum. After achieving Eagle Scout as a boy, he also was a past executive committee member and board member of Boy Scouts of America, Pony Express Council, as well as belonging to the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Jack was instrumental in the transition from Sister’s Hospital to the new Heartland Regional Medical Center, today known as “Mosaic.” He was a board member and past president of the Buchanan District of Junior Achievement of Middle America and a former council member and chairman of Profit in Education. Jack also was a former board member of the St. Joseph Country Club, Benton Club, The Saint Joseph Symphony and United Way of Greater St. Joseph.

In addition to civic activities, Jack was a lifelong enthusiast of cars and airplanes. He had his pilot’s license and flew many types of airplanes from single engine to jets. He loved watching hockey, football, tennis and lacrosse. He appreciated and collected art, and enjoyed model cars, trains and planes. He and Billie traveled extensively, often he would do the flying.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Jeffrey Stuart Barclay; and sister, Debbie Josendale.

Survivors include his children, Lee Barclay Webster, Vicky Barclay, Megan Barclay Leben, and John Peter Barclay, III; and seven grandchildren.

Sergeant George “Nelson” Gottswiller, 88, Weatherby, Missouri, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021.

He was born June 14, 1932 in Clarksdale, Missouri to Amos and Glenna (Schottel) Gottswiller.

Nelson served as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He married Clara Rhoden February 3, 1951; she preceded him in death in 2009.

Nelson was a sergeant for the Buchanan County Sheriff’s department for over 18 years before retiring.

He enjoyed hunting with his brothers and anything that had to do with guns.

Nelson was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Clara; his daughters, Lynne, Gretchen; parents; brothers, Ermal and Dewayne.

Survivors include his sons, Craig Gottswiller (Sherry), Scot Gottswiller; 14 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Dennis L. Grabill, 70, of St Joseph, passed away, Sunday, February 7, 2021 in St. Joseph. 

He was born June 12, 1950 in St. Joseph, son of Lois and George Grabill. He attended Bethany High School. Dennis was an avid fisherman, a friend to all and always willing to lend a helping hand. He also loved to spend time with his best four-legged friend, Snow. Dennis has served as Treasurer of the Blind Association, St Joseph Chapter and was of the Catholic faith. 

Dennis was preceded in death his parents. 

Survivors include, sister, Janice (David) Sisk of St Joseph, brother, Ronnie Grabill of Marseilles, IL, niece, Tonya (Don) Showers, nephews, David (Alana) Sisk, Danny Sisk, Jupiter Sisk, Vance Grabill, niece, Casi (Erin) Lee, step-niece, Sharon Slatton and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Sharon Ann Lawrence 71, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday February 5, 2021 in a Saint Joseph, MO Hospital. 

She was born June 16, 1949 in St. Joseph, Missouri, and married Vernon Lawrence on July 10, 1976. She graduated from Lafayette High School class of 1969. Sharon worked at American Family Insurance for 32 years, and at Merrill for 12 years as a caretaker. She enjoyed shopping, was an excellent cook and the sweetest lady you would ever know, she had a great sense of humor, and loved her church and her grandchildren. Sharon was a member of the Grace Evangelical Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Paula Lawrence, father, Charles R. Butler, mother, Evelyn Dora Farris, step-father, Delmas Farris, and grandson, Dakota Lawrence.

&nbsp; Leonard Charles Taylor, 79, of Clarksdale, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at his home in Clarksdale. 

He was born July 30, 1941 in Charles City, IA, son of Florence and Guy Taylor. Jim was a long time truck driver, having worked for Affiliated Foods and later Roger Powell Trucking and Jim Fender Trucking. Leonard loved raising and showing horses and mules. Having showed one of his Mules winning Grand Champion in Missouri. Leonard was of the Methodist faith. 

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents. 

Survivors include his longtime friend and companion, Cathy Sprague of Clarksdale, MO, brother, Loren (Kathy) Taylor of Quincy, IL, 2 nephews, Jason and Mark Taylor and niece, Jill Taylor.

Robert Lee "Rob" Peters, 48, of St. Joseph, MO, died Saturday, February 6, 2021.&nbsp;

Robert was born June 29, 1972 in Youngstown, Ohio to Ronald Lee and Ruth Ann (Winovich) Peters.&nbsp;

He had worked in the customer relations field for most of his life.

Robert married Kim Bergen on March 31, 2001 in Fallbrook, CA; and she survives.&nbsp; Also surviving are their children, Jasmine, Lance, and Karina; his extended family including numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, which live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

He attended the First Baptist Church, downtown St. Joseph.&nbsp; Robert was a member of the Sault Ste Marie tribe of Chippewa Indians.&nbsp; He was an avid Raiders fan, liked board games, and loved to fish.

Memorial contributions to a college fund for his children Lance and Karina would be appreciated.

Margie E. (Williams) Beggs, 86, St. Joseph MO, passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2021 at a local hospital.

Margie was born on October 11, 1934 as the oldest twin daughter to Ralph L. And Juanita V, (Jenkins) Williams.

Margie married Logan Beggs January 18th, 1953, and had just celebrated 68 years of marriage.

She retired from the St. Joseph School District, having taught art at Lafayette High School and Robidoux Middle School. Margie enjoyed drawing and teaching others to draw, her specialty was charcoal portraits. Many homes across Missouri and Texas have walls that&nbsp; are adorned with her artwork. Singing was another of Margie's passions, just a mention of a word that reminded her of a lyric and she would break out in song, she even had her own karaoke machine. She loved to&nbsp; play dominos and cards with pitch and&nbsp; double solitaire among her favorites, but you had to pay close attention because she liked to play by "Margie" rules. Having not traveled further than Wathena as a child, she loved traveling with Logan, having been to all 50 states, but especially enjoyed going to visit her sister in North Carolina and Myrtle Beach, and her time in Texas, always striving to go back.

She was preceded in death by son, Dirk, her parents, and brother Robert.

Margie is survived by husband, Logan, her twin sister, Mary (Keith) Carroll, Burlington NC, son Terry (Nicole) Beggs, St. Joseph, daughters Carol (Mike) Wolf, Maysville, Mo and Delaina (Charles) Babcock, Lincoln Mo.

Michael Steven “Mike” Hegarty, 71, of Troy, Kansas passed away Friday, February 5, 2021 at his home.

Mike was born on August 3, 1949 in Atchison, Kansas to Patrick L. and Lillian (Hampl) Hegarty.

He attended spring Grove School, Doniphan and graduated from Troy High School in 1967. Mike was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church, Doniphan, Kansas and past member of the Troy American Legion Post #55. Mike served in the U.S. Army and was a farmer all his life.

Mike married Terri Winkel on October 17, 1987 in Troy, Kansas. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Pat “PJ” Hegarty and sister-in-law, Julie Hegarty.

He was born June 21, 1957 in Salina, Kansas.

Mark married Tanya Johnson on September 29, 1984. She survives of the home.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War and Persian Gulf War. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service in vehicle maintenance for many years.

Mark loved fishing and being outdoors. He cherished his granddaughter and loved spending time with her.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Roy Simmons; aunt and uncle, Carol and John Becker; and grandparents, Lola and Frank McNally.

George Ray Stuber, 94, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021, peacefully at home.

He was born on April 13, 1926 in St. Joseph to Alfred Nicholas and Minnie Rose (Sommer) Stuber.

George married Gwendolyn Bennett on April 26, 1947. She preceded him in death on November 12, 1993. He married Lois Garreth on August 19, 2000. She also preceded him in death.

He was a dairy farmer. He was a member of Hope United Church of Christ and Cosby Blue Lodge #600. He was a 50-year member of Scottish Rite and Moila Shrine. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mada Gnuschke, Vesta Schneider and Dorothy Gnuschke; and brothers, Walter and Don Stuber.

Survivors include daughter, Joyce Windmeyer (Glenn); son, Michael Stuber (Ann); grandchildren, Emily Farrow (Jeremy), Timothy Windmeyer (Lynn), Elizabeth Green (Colten), Benjamin Stuber (Tanya), Melissa Shultz (Kelly), and Alison Wohlhuter (Jon); 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Stuber (Phyllis); sister-in-law, Janet Yocam; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George R. Stuber  1926 - 2021

&nbsp; Iola Irene Ericson, 90, St. Joseph, passed into the arms of Jesus February 4, 2021.

She was born February 22, 1930 in Larchwood, Iowa to Theodore and Irene (Netland) Menage.

Iola graduated in 1948 from Rock Rapids High School, Rock Rapids, Iowa. She was involved in many activities, but her favorite was playing the flute and piccolo in the marching band and orchestra. Some of her fonder high school memories were of traveling to Iowa State Band Competitions.

After high school, Iola went to work for the town doctor. She developed an affinity for working in the medical field and enjoyed meeting with the patients. Iola liked to tell of the times she held Jerry Mathers, of “Leave It To Beaver” fame, while the doctor administered his vaccinations. Years later, Mr. Mathers made an appearance in St. Joseph and Iola reconnected with him. After moving to St. Joseph, she worked for a time for Dr. Richard Maginn.

Iola met her future husband on a blind date. Roger, her buddy from high school, was looking for a date for his brother who was home from the Navy. Arlo and Iola were married on May 29, 1949. It was a marriage that saw them make homes in Vermillion and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sioux City and West Des Moines, Iowa, and St. Joseph. They were blessed with three children, many friends and family, good health, and opportunities to travel many times inside and outside of the United States.

Iola excelled as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family will tell you she had a heart of gold and was always putting their needs before her own. She was an excellent cook, baker, and seamstress, talents she loved to share with her children and others. Iola was well-known for bringing her homemade cinnamon rolls to golf tournaments, bowling leagues, and Arlo’s car dealership. If you moved into her neighborhood, she was soon knocking on your door and gifting you with a homemade treat. Iola was outgoing and kind to everyone she met.

Outside of the home, Iola volunteered in scouting and her children’s school classrooms. She also loved to snow ski and became an avid bowler and golfer. Of the three sports, golf was her favorite. She was outstandingly good at golf and enjoyed all the years she drove the greens at Moila and other courses around the city, Missouri, and surrounding states. Her travels with Arlo often took them to professional golf tournaments and Iola was always thrilled to meet the pros. Iola was preceded in death by infant son, Dwayne Arlo; her parents; her sister, Irene Chelsvig: sister-in-law, Roseann Ericson; and two nephews. Survivors include her husband, Arlo W. Ericson; her children, Douglas Ericson of St. Joseph, Jane Edmunds (Eddy) of Richardson, Texas, Connie Whan (Bob) of Perrin, Texas; grandchildren, Jessa Hayob, Hailey Jaynes, Bobby Whan, Kaitlin Ash, and Taylor Kunze; six (soon to be eight) great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Roger Ericson (Bess Amidon); nieces and nephews.

She was outstandingly good at golf and enjoyed all the years she drove the greens at Moila and other courses around the city, Missouri, and surrounding states. Her travels with Arlo often took them to professional golf tournaments and Iola was always thrilled to meet the pros. Iola was preceded in death by infant son, Dwayne Arlo; her parents; her sister, Irene Chelsvig: sister-in-law, Roseann Ericson; and two nephews. Survivors include her husband, Arlo W. Ericson; her children, Douglas Ericson of St. Joseph, Jane Edmunds (Eddy) of Richardson, Texas, Connie Whan (Bob) of Perrin, Texas; grandchildren, Jessa Hayob, Hailey Jaynes, Bobby Whan, Kaitlin Ash, and Taylor Kunze; six (soon to be eight) great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Roger Ericson (Bess Amidon); nieces and nephews. He was born June 6, 1941 in Plattsburg, Missouri to Malcolm Shade and Viola Ginn.

James was a member of Tes Trams Club and also a Shriner in Kansas City, Missouri.

He enjoyed fishing and socializing with his friends at the VFW and Hickory Tavern.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Anthony Ginn; parents; brother, Truman Ginn; sisters, Mary Ann Carriger and Imogene Grayson.

Eva Pryor, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home in Kirksville, Missouri Thursday, February 4, 2021 surrounded by family.

She was born February 18, 1928 in Fillmore, Missouri to James Henry and Lena (Hardin) Heckman. Eva married Billy Joe Pryor in April 1948. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1980.

She was a homemaker and a prolific crocheter who enjoyed bird watching, fishing, and spending time surrounded by family. Eva was a member of the Fillmore Christian Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by husband; daughter-in-law, Pat Pryor; her parents; and nine siblings.

Survivors include children, Ronny Pryor, Elizabeth Hartnett (Dr. Ron), Billie Hartman (Bruce), Rex Pryor (Sandy), and Benny Pryor (Corie); sisters, Dorothy Hagee and Norma Barton; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

John E. Bunkowski, 88, Wathena, Kansas passed away Monday, February 1, 2021.

He was born July 22, 1932 in St. Joseph, Missouri to John and Nellie (McKeever) Bunkowski. John was a graduate of Christian Brothers. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. John married Barbara Anderson October 29, 1952.

He retired after 37 years with Safeway grocery as a store manager. John was a member of the Eagles Lodge. &nbsp;

He enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill “Bunny” Bunkowski.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Barbara Ruth; 3 children, Edward L. Bunkowski (Debbie), Eldon, Missouri, Debra L. Graham, St. Joseph, Missouri, Bryan L. Ernie Worthen, 77 of Wathena, KS, went to be with his Lord February 4, 2021, after a long fight with cancer. He was born March 12, 1943 in St. Joseph, MO to Ernest and Bessie Worthen.

His family moved to Long Beach, CA and Ernie completed his entire education there. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served four years aboard a destroyer. While in the Navy, he met the love of his life Lawanda Morgan and married her on August 2, 1964 after being Honorably Discharged. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

After trying several occupations, he found that being part of the family at St. Joseph Packaging Company was satisfactory and retired from there after 28 years.

His children and pets were important to Ernie. Memorials can be made to Friends of the Shelter or St. Jude's Hospital for Children. A private family service after cremation is planned.

She was born January 16, 1935, to John and Elnora Walker. She grew up on the family farm in Barnard, Missouri.

Gaylene married Wilbur Berryman September 16, 1955, and was blessed with two sons.

She was a faithful servant of Christ and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Gaylene was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur; parents; and brother Nyle Walker.

Gaylene leaves behind her sons, Keith Berryman (Charlotte Jarrett), Kevin Berryman (Dawn); grandchildren, Clista Jarrett, Nathan (Melissa Kirkpatrick), Summer (Loon Allen) and Danae Berryman; and six great-grandchildren.

Dennis Ray Burks Sr., 61, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

He was born October 2, 1959 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Barbara and Raymond Burks. Dennis attended Benton High School. On February 7, 2015, he married Paula Lofton. Dennis worked for City of St. Joseph in the Street Department and at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and was active in the local Union. His hobbies included collecting die cast cars, clocks, enjoying his collection of old movies, spending time with his dog Pepper and always had a good story to share. He was always willing to help anyone in need. 

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents. 

Survivors include, wife, Paula Burks of St. Joseph, son, Dennis R. (Megan Murray) Burks Jr. of St Joseph, step-daughter, Katrina Lofton, brother, Terry (Lesli) Burks of Lees Summit, MO, sister, Shelly (Sean) Aebersold of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Zander Ray Burks, Ky'Ana Burks and Xavier Paden, great-granddaughters, Taylyn and Everleigh Paden and several nieces and nephews.
