Ada May Wheeler, St. Joseph, passed away Saturday October 9, 2021 at the age of 80.

Ada was born March 25, 1941 in Stoddard County, Missouri to H. L. and May Lankford.&nbsp; She was a 1959 graduate of Bloomfield (MO) High School and married Ray Wheeler August 9, 1959.&nbsp; He survives of the home.

For many years Ada and Ray owned and operated A-R Computer Systems in St. Joseph, retiring in 2005.&nbsp; Ada enjoyed being with her grandchildren, watching the birds and squirrels that would come into her yard, looking forward to school reunions, and watching Cardinals baseball on television.

Ada was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and a half-brother.

In addition to her husband, Ada is survived by two sons, Randy Wheeler of Columbia, Missouri and Paul Wheeler (Shawna) of Augusta, Missouri; four grandchildren, Grant Wheeler (Kelsey) of Springfield, Missouri, and Alan, Emma, and Leah Wheeler of Augusta.&nbsp;&nbsp; She is also survived by several other relatives and friends, including Jodie and Terry Meschke of St. Joseph.

Per her wishes there are no services or visitation scheduled.&nbsp; Private family burial will be at a later date in Stoddard County.&nbsp; Ada has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel.&nbsp; A Register Book will be available to sign at the funeral home during normal business hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Open Door Food Kitchen, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Harold Dean Bauer was born July 5, 1936 and passed away on November 26, 2020 at the age of 84.&nbsp; 

Harold was born in Falls City, NE, to Roy and Stella (Krenzel) Bauer. Like his siblings, he attended grade school in the surrounding area. As told by his siblings, he attended high school for two days; one day to see if he would like it and the second day to tell them he would not be back as he needed to work. His schooling was cut short by family necessity, but his education was “on the job and hands on” with Reece Construction Co of Scandia, KS.

Harold started with Reece Construction Company at the young age of 15 in 1950.&nbsp; When starting his employment, Harold weighed a mere 130 lbs., earning him the nickname “PeeWee”.&nbsp; During his employment with Reece, he taught skills and gave support to many young men, some being family members and others from the surrounding community. While employed with Reece Construction, many roads were traveled, job sites assessed, bridges built, and stories told.&nbsp; Harold retired after 55 years of dedication to Reece Construction.&nbsp;

Harold married Carol Ann Geiger of Sabetha on June 19, 1964 at the home of Carol’s grandparents, Paul and Ethel Geiger in rural Fairview. They celebrated 56 years of marriage together.&nbsp; Harold and Carol’s two daughters, Christine Rosenberger and Debra Bailey (Lafe) live near their parents.&nbsp; He and Carol made their home in Fairview in 1978 moving their mobile home and girls to the area. They later purchased a house in Fairview where Carol resides.&nbsp; Harold was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairview, KS.&nbsp;

Harold’s siblings included, Donald (Lamonia), John (Leona), Darrell (Sara), Darlene Covert, Esther (Virgil) Koerperich, Harlan, Arlan (Debbie).

He was extremely proud of his grandchildren, Colby (Mikayla) Rosenberger, Olivia (Cole) Winkler, Landon (Andrea) Bailey, Grace (Micah) Allen, Ivy Bailey and Eve Bailey. Nothing could bring a smile to his face and twinkle in his eye faster than when talking about his grandchildren. “PaPa Peewee” was a great-grandfather to Cruz &amp; Wren Rosenberger, Nolan and Elyse Winkler, Charlotte and Lennox Bailey.

Uncle Peewee to his nieces and nephew, he always seemed to gravitate to babies and young children of the family, always taking time to visit, joke, and encourage them. His love of family was great and his guidance priceless. All knew him as a “Big man with a Big heart”.&nbsp;&nbsp; Peewee had a love of livestock and farming, spending many hours driving the roads of Brown and Nemaha County in his red truck checking out the crops and Freddie (Kopp’s) cows and the Wolf Track Ranch (Bailey’s) longhorns.

John M. Brewer, Sr., 94, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021.

He was born March 8, 1927 in Bolckow, Missouri to George and Charlotte (Jenkins) Brewer.

John married Deava June Hughs on December 24, 1946. She survives of the home.

He started his career as an over-the-road driver for Crouch Brothers and retired from McLean in 1986.

John and Deava wintered in Texas for 30 years. He enjoyed camping, spending time at his cabin at Big Lake, watching Westerns, and loved telling stories about the past.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Jo Brewer.

Survivors include his wife; sons, John M. Brewer, Jr. (Diana Romans), and Jack Brewer; daughter, Peggy Rupe (Robert); grandchildren, Kyle (Allison), Travis (Tracy), Ashley (Jacob), John William, and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Merle Brewer; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Carol Louise Stewart, 73, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care. 

She was born November 25, 1947 in Omaha, NE, daughter of Ernestine and Albert Peak. She was married to Nathan Stewart, who preceded her in death in 1996. Carol enjoyed sewing, spending time with grandchildren, cooking and watching her favorite TV Shows, Hazel, Lone Ranger and Gunsmoke. She was a member of Word of Life Church. 

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband Nate, brothers Albert and Leslie Gene, and Russell Peak, sisters, Maria Peak and Joanie Washington.

Nancy Ann Huffman 67, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021 in a Saint Joseph, MO., hospital. 

She was born June 10, 1954 in Fairfax, MO, daughter of the late Helen and John Salfrank. She graduated from Craig High School, then from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, with a Bachelor of Science in English, then received her Masters Degree in Library Studies from the University of Missouri Columbia in 1991. Nancy married Elmer "Gene" Huffman on November 14, 1998, he preceded her in death February 22, 2003. She was the Assistant Director of the River Bluffs Regional Library. Nancy enjoyed taking pictures, and submitted many to KQTV, she wanted to show God's glory through her pictures, and singing was one of her greatest pleasures. She was a member of St. Joseph Community Chorus, the Cathedral of St. Joseph Choir, and was a founding member of the Polyphonic Schola of St. Joseph. She also enjoyed her work as a Librarian and authored two children's books. Nancy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. 

She was preceded in death by husband, Elmer "Gene" Eugene Huffman, and her parents. 

Survivors include an aunt, Betty David of Maryville, MO, many generations of cousins, and adopted nieces and nephew, Carrie, Sarah, Madelynn Michaela, Corena, Tayven and Jameson, and a large group of friends, including her chorus, library, and St. Patrick community family.

The family will receive friends at 9:00 AM Monday, with parish rosary to be prayed at 9:30 am Monday, and Funeral Mass Celebration starting at 10:00 am Monday, October 11, 2021, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fr. Jonathan Davis Celebrant. The Interment will be at the Mount Moriah Cemetery Kansas City, MO. Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers to the Friends of the Animal Shelter.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bonnie A. Orcutt, 72, of Savannah, died October 3, 2021.&nbsp; Bonnie was born January 16, 1949, in Odebolt, Iowa to Bernard and Darlene Bird.&nbsp;

Prior to retirement she was a processor for INS - Immigration and Nationalization Service.&nbsp; Bonnie was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and was most proud of her 10 years of volunteer service at Mosaic Hospital.

Bonnie married Ronald J. Orcutt on October 24, 2003; and he survives.&nbsp; Also surviving are step- children Susan Cox (Mark), David Orcutt (Amy), Lori Rosebrough; grandchildren, Jon Cox, Jeff Cox, Elly Orcutt, Christopher Rosebrough, Harry Orcutt, Madeline Rosebrough, Joey Orcutt, Claire Orcutt, Olivia Rosebrough, Sam Orcutt; one great-granddaughter Harper Cox; a brother John; two sisters Marian, Kathleen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bonnie assisted with projects at St. Rose of Lima.&nbsp; She enjoyed many travel with her husband, step-children, &nbsp;and grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 10:00 am, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Savannah, MO.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in St. Joseph.&nbsp; Visitation will be Friday, October 15, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph, where the Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm.

Whitney W. “Nick” Potter, Jr., 75, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021.

On January 20, 1946 he was born to Whitney Warfield, Sr. and Barbara E. (Whitson) Potter in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Nick was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, St. Joseph Country Club and St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce.

He enjoyed reading, including the daily newspaper, movies and science fiction. He was a dog-lover and an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the KC Chiefs and Royals. Whitney loved St. Joseph and caring for friends and neighbors in need.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Susan (McGarrah) Potter.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara Hartzler and Mary Potter; step-daughter, Kelly Siewert (Jordan); sisters, Marie Davis (Donn), and Carolyn Dannen (Doug); mother of his children, Christina Potter. June (Leddy) Robaska, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away October 6, 2021.

She was born on August 2, 1935 in Englewood, New Jersey to Thomas Patrick and Catherine (McAvoy) Leddy.

She earned an Associate of Science degree from Endicott Junior College in 1955, then a Bachelor of Science degree in 1957 and Master of Arts degree in 1959, both from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.

June married P. Gordon Robaska on December 20, 1958. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. They enjoyed many memories together, a favorite was raising their three sons while living in Taiwan, Republic of China, from 1970-1974.

She was a high school teacher at Evanston Township High School in Evanston, Illinois for two years. After the children left home, she worked at Express Personnel Agency for a number of years.

June was a Cradle Episcopalian and very active in the Church including serving on the Vestry and Alter Guild, among other activities. Through the years, she remained active with her university sorority, Delta Delta Delta, and with P.E.O. Since living in St. Joseph, she was supportive of Missouri Western State University, including establishing two scholarship endowments in memory of her parents.

She enjoyed needlepoint, especially creating annual Christmas ornaments for each of the immediate family, as well as playing bridge and mahjong. In addition, she loved to travel, including 22 holiday vacation trips with her children and grandchildren, with Turks &amp; Caicos and Kauai among her favorites. She enjoyed watching and supporting her children and grandchildren in their sports and academic endeavors. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, P. Gordon Robaska; children, P. Gordon (Pam) Robaska, Jr., Scott L. (Gail) Robaska, David A. (Julie) Robaska; grandchildren, Matthew S. Robaska, Joshua M. Robaska, Allison C. Robaska, Andrew P. Robaska; siblings, Thomas D. (Joyce) Leddy and Linda (Trevor) Leddy; and numerous extended family and friends. Ronald Bass, 77, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021.

He was born February 28, 1944 in Abilene, Kansas to Louis and Sybilla (Thompson) Bass.

Ronald married LaVada Burtnett. She preceded him in death.

He was a service manager for many auto dealerships, including Polsky Motors, Gregg Buick, Anderson Ford, and Volkswagen. He liked NASCAR and going to his sister’s farm for the peace and quiet.

A loving man, Ronald was a true big brother who took care of everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and a brother, Russell Bass.

Ronald Bass  1944 - 2021

Dalton was a young man with a great laugh, gave great hugs, and loved dogs, particularly his four-legged buddy, Odin. He had a special relationship with his friends helping many through hard times and supporting many in recovery.

The last several months were a gift to get to see the loving, witty, and bright personality that Dalton had. He enjoyed attending his nephew’s 13th birthday, grilling for the family, and moving into a new home with his roommate, Chris. On his last day, he spent the afternoon with his mother, making plans to see her the next day and watch a movie with a friend.

Dalton fought hard with everything he had, and after nearly a year in recovery, he relapsed and lost his life in an accidental overdose. His family loved him fiercely through his long battle with addiction. He leaves behind his parents, Dean and Lisa Moss, sisters Spencer and Mackenzie Moss, nephew Hagen Dalton Moss, grandmother Mary Lou Moss, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.

Max was born on Jan. 16, 1930, in Effingham, KS the son of Brown and Pauline (Weit) Hargrove. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1948. Max was a farmer and purebred black angus cattle rancher. He was active in Future Farmers of America in high school, member of the National Farmers Organization, was involved with 4-H, and active in the Agriculture Movement of the late 1970’s. He won several awards in row crop and cattle production. Max traveled locating purebred black angus breeding stock in several states, and Canada.

He was married to Helen Gerety in August of 1953. She preceded him in death in December of 1965. He was later married to Velma F. (Brumley) Price on Aug. 31, 1968. She also preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 2012.

Survivors include four daughters Jeanne (Kevin) Henning, Parkville, MO, Rene’ (Bill) Cassity, Rushville, MO, Sara (Don) Hinz, Effingham, KS and Sheila (Mike) Larson, Platte City, MO, a sister, Geraldine Wohlgemuth, Effingham, KS, ten grandchildren, and numerous great and great great grandchildren. His parents, both spouses, a granddaughter, Bethanney Hinz, a brother Glenn Hargrove and an infant sister Della M. Hargrove also preceded him in death.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She also crafted over 30 Swedish Embroidery (aka Huck Embroidery) quilts, collected birdhouses &amp; blue antique dishware in her spare time. LaVelle married Charles J. Wolfe on April 6, 1952, in Holton, KS, he preceded her in death on November 1, 1996, and a significant other Huck Hagan on July 27, 2015.

He was born January 19, 1936 in Halls, MO, son of Grace and Varley Crockett. He graduated from Benton High School in 1953 . He married JoAnn Collier. He worked at Stockyards and Wire Rope Corporation. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working in the yard. He also coached Boys Baseball. He was a fan of Mizzou football, Royals, Cardinals, and the Chiefs. He was a Christian. 

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, JoAnn Crockett, brothers, J. Marvin, Harold (Bud), and Kenny Crockett, sisters, Florence Frakes,and Velda Davis. 

Survivors include, sons: Michael, St. Joseph, MO, Jeff (Valerie) Crockett, Lancaster, CA, Chris (Amy) Crockett, Boise, ID, and Scott (Danielle ) Crockett, St. Joseph, step daughters: Janet (John) Wollenman, Cindy (Don) Roethler, and Rebecca White (companion, Tommy Tucker). 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. and former wife Connie Ward.

Alice Kay Boyles  1945 - 2021

Donna Jo Brouhard, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021.

She was born August 22, 1941 in Chillicothe, Missouri to Joseph and Hazel (Donelson) Bedard.

Donna Jo married Gary Leroy Brouhard. He preceded her in death in March 1983.

She was an early childhood educator for many years.

Donna Jo loved kids, and was known to take in “strays.” When she lived in Lathrop, Missouri, she created a place for youth to hang out. She also enjoyed doing crafts, especially ceramics.

She was a former member of Word of Life Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bob Brouhard; and sister, Beverly Kammerer.

Deacon Steven Edward Welsh passed away peacefully with his family on the morning of October 3, 2021.&nbsp; 

He had an 11-year battle with pain, though rarely expressed, from heart disease, an aortic heart valve replacement, diabetes, progressive supranuclear palsy, and multiple myeloma.&nbsp; Steven was born in Youngstown, Ohio to John and Eva (Kraysets) Welsh.&nbsp; He married Catherine Ann Goodman in Youngstown on May 1, 1965.&nbsp; They have four children: Christine (Dennis) Strube of Kansas City, Missouri; Mike Welsh of St. Joseph, Missouri; Cindy (Brian) Quirk of Overland Park, Kansas; and Cathleen (Andy) Hall of Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; They also have eight grandchildren: Stephanie, Sarah, and Michael Strube; Jennifer and David Quirk; and Lake, Rebecca, and Josiah Hall.

Steven was a graduate of Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.&nbsp; He began his career at Republic Steel in Youngstown, moving his family to Fyffe, Alabama and Greenfield, Indiana, eventually accepting a position with Varco-Pruden in St. Joseph, Missouri. This is where he and his family have made their home.

His brother-in-law Edward Potts introduced Steven to the Knights of Columbus Council #274 in Ohio. He completed his first-degree initiation in 1961. He was a third-degree Knight, Council #571, of Saint Joseph and Grand Knight of Council #571 from 1995-1997.&nbsp; He was also a fourth-degree Knight, Assembly #569, Saint Joseph.

Steven’s love for the Catholic church has always been evident: he became one of the first lay ministers distributing Holy Communion at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Youngstown, Ohio.&nbsp;&nbsp; While living in Fyffe, Alabama, Steven would often lead the Sunday communion service.&nbsp; After moving to St. Joseph, he began a six-year formation program to become a deacon in the Catholic Church and was ordained on June 9, 2001.&nbsp; His assignment was to the Cathedral of St. Joseph where he had been a parishioner since 1980.&nbsp; Deacon Steven was instrumental in sharing his faith with his family as well.&nbsp; He baptized his grandsons David Quirk and Josiah Hall; gave First Holy Communion to his grandchildren, Sarah and Michael Strube, Jennifer Quirk, and Rebecca and Josiah Hall; and assisted Bishop Raymond Boland for the Confirmation of his granddaughter Stephanie Strube.&nbsp; As a deacon, he worked in prison ministry, continuing to serve the church he loved.

He adopted the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs as his favorite sports teams but would tune in to the Ohio State Buckeyes whenever possible.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Eva Welsh, his sister Mary Lou Potts, and his brothers Jack and Jim Welsh.

A rosary will be on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 5:30PM with visitation following until 8:00PM at Heaton-Bowman-Smith in St. Joseph.&nbsp; The Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 10:00AM Cathedral Saint Joseph. The burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery following the funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Cathedral St. Joseph food pantry or school or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, where Steven and Catherine were long-time donors.

He is proceeded in death by both parents, sisters Ginger Flower (Crys) and Nancy Tilton (Kenneth), and brother Robert Allen Terry. 

 He is survived by Sisters Robin Jones (Mike) of Highland, Kelly Nitz (Shawn) of Tonganoxie, and step brothers John and Travis Ralph. Also Children Teresa Ridout (Clifford) of Highland, Heather Owen (Travis) of Robinson, Brandon Terry (Jennifer) of Grain Valley and 15 grandchildren. 

An Irish Wake is planned for Sunday October 10th at the Community Center in Highland Kansas starting at noon. All Friends and Family are welcome. Carolene was born May 1, 1941 in Washington D.C. to Doug Despins and Twila Agee.&nbsp; Carolene's sister, Juanita, was born in 1948 and was her lifelong friend.&nbsp; Carolene married William G. Pitthan August 26, 1961.&nbsp; He preceded her in death July 20, 1964.&nbsp; They had two daughters, Mary and Margaret.

Carolene loved animals, was an avid oil painter and loved music and dancing.&nbsp; She was a 1959 graduate of Maryville High School and worked at Social Welfare Board for over 45 years.

Carolene is survived by daughters Mary (Jack) Krimmel and Margaret Pitthan , 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and sister Juanita.

She liked to cook, sew, working crossword puzzles, watching wheel of fortune and socializing with friends and family, she was always willing to lend a helping hand. Marceas was a member of the Central Assembly of God Church. 

Marceas was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Esther Moore, son, Morris 'Butch" Ruark, and 2nd husband, Carl Reents, first husband, Charles Ruark, a brother, A.J. Cline, and a sister, Nina Bouge.

Jimmie D. Colhour, 71, of Elwood, Kansas passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at his home.&nbsp;

Jimmie was born on January 1, 1950 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Dale and Marilyn (Shortle) Colhour.&nbsp;&nbsp;He&nbsp;&nbsp;obtained his graphic design degree from Salina Tech &amp; worked in the field for 45 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jimmie served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was an active member in his community &amp; served on the Elwood School Board.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jimmie was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing the guitar &amp; fishing with his nephew Zac.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved spending time with his grandson Tucker.&nbsp;&nbsp;One of his favorite hobbies was restoring vehicles &amp; spending time with his friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jimmie was a straight shooter &amp; never feared speaking what was on his mind.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was kind, loving &amp; generous.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jimmie was always willing to help someone in need.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his father Dale Colhour.&nbsp;

Survivors include his daughter, Chelsea Colhour of Elwood&nbsp;
