Merle Dean Arnold, a long-time resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his sleep&nbsp;on October 25th in Lenexa, KS.

Merle was born on June 18,1936 in a block house on the family farm in Watson Township, Effingham County, Illinois, to parents William Clinton and Cora Belle (Bates) Arnold.&nbsp;

Merle was educated at Loy Community School, a one-room schoolhouse about a mile from the family farm and walked or rode his horse to school each day. He later attended Watson Grade School and Effingham High School. He worked on the farm while growing up and at 16 years old he worked construction and at the Norge Plant in Effingham.

In 1954, Merle enlisted in the United States Army and served 3 years, two and a half of which were in Germany.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was honorably discharged in 1957 as a Specialist 4th&nbsp;Class, and was awarded the National Defense, Army Occupation and the Good Conduct Medals.

On October 20, 1957, Merle married the love of his life, Lenore (Eddie) Mitchell, in Hernando, Mississippi and were married for 61 years until her death in 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;Merle and Eddie were blessed with 3 children during their marriage.

In 1958, Merle and Eddie moved to the Chicago area and Merle worked at St. Charles Custom Built Kitchens. In 1961 Merle started his career with Globe Union, which later became Johnson Controls. In 1973 Merle transferred to St. Joseph, MO to open a new plant and retired after 37 years.

Merle loved spending time with family, and especially enjoyed big holiday meals.&nbsp;&nbsp;He had many hobbies including remodeling, woodworking, gardening, fishing and reading. He enjoyed meeting friends each week for coffee when he was able. After retirement he went on several road trips with Eddie to their favorite destinations – Branson, San Diego and Las Vegas.

In 1967, Merle was initiated into the Masonic Lodge, Unity Lodge 48, A.F. and A.M. in St. Charles, IL.&nbsp;&nbsp;He transferred his membership to the Brotherhood Lodge in St. Joseph, MO in 1973. He joined Green Valley Baptist Church in St. Joseph and was baptized there in 1978.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also belonged to the Pony Express post of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge of St. Joseph, the Order of the Eastern Star Pearl Chapter 529 and the VFW.&nbsp;&nbsp;Merle enjoyed volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America, the Green Valley Baptist Church Royal Ambassadors and the Republican Party.

Merle was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; brothers, Billy Arnold, Forrest “Bonnie” Arnold, Arlin Arnold and an infant brother; sisters, Lois Matteson and Eda Belle Althoff; and his beloved dog, Stephen.

He leaves behind his children, Mary Roy of Kansas City, MO, Donna Mahony (Tim) of Lenexa, KS, and George Arnold (Melina) of Downers Grove, IL; grandchildren, Mitchell Rice (Jannah) and Jacqueline Foster (Brandon), great-grandchildren Carter Scott, Rebecca Rice, Caylin Scott, Elizabeth Rice, Caius Foster, Marcus Foster and Brutus Foster; sister-in-law Dorothy Arnold and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will gather with friends on&nbsp;Tuesday, November 2nd&nbsp;beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Heaton Bowman, Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph, MO, followed by a farewell service at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Dr. David Mason of Green Valley Baptist Church. Lunch will follow at the church.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will be held on a later date at the Loy Chapel Cemetery in Effingham County, Illinois with military rites observed.

David Patrick Larkin 60, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at his home. 

He was born March 21, 1961 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Dorothy and Paul Larkin. He was a painter and Artist, and he was of the Catholic Faith. 

David was preceded in death by his father, Paul Larkin, and brother, Martin Larkin. 

Survivors include: &nbsp;mother, Dorothy Larkin, Saint Joseph, MO, long time companion, Joann Penland, brother, Stanley (Jody) Larkin, sisters, Sandra (Mark) Shelton, DeAnn (Richard) Johnson, Linda (David) Long, Nancy (Val) Harris, Janice (Don) Buol, Carol (Tony) Stephenson, and Judy Larkin, an uncle Earl Sale, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley L. Cooper, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

On December 26, 1931 she was born to Thomas and Leola (Gates) Boley in Liberty, Missouri.

Shirley was a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church and the Piecemakers Quilt Guild. She volunteered at Pivotal Point.

She was a tireless caregiver to her family and known for her exceptional organizational skills.

Shirley enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, Scrabble and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Glen Knutter; second husband, Calvin C. Cooper; grandson-in-law, James Evans.

Survivors include daughters, Glenda Hamilton (Chuck) and Sharon Knutter of St. Joseph, Missouri; step-daughter, Kathi Camp (Clyde) of Dallas, Texas; step-son, Timothy Cooper (Laurie) of Campbell, Texas; sister, Beverly Meyer of Garden Grove, California; grandchildren, Laura Lucas (Robie) of West Chester, Ohio, Josh Hamilton (Kristin) and Alex Hamilton (Kirah) all of Kansas City, Missouri, Kathryne Evans of Farmers Branch, Texas, Meghan Hill (Ronny) of Frisco, Texas; great-grandchildren, Carson, Alexandra, Isaac, Lucy, Ivan, Tyler, McKenzee; niece, Rebecca Rosenburg (Denis) and their daughter, Beth Ann.

Marion Rose Reed, 93, Houston, Texas, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

She was born August 28, 1928 in St. Joseph to Henry and Gertrude (Bibbins) Franklin.

Marion was a secretary for Community Housing Ministry in St. Joseph. Marion enjoyed spending time with her family and church family, traveling, game nights with her neighborhood ladies group, and crafting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Reed, who passed in 1999; son, Billie Jackson in 1996; and daughter, Lois Jean Chambers in 1987.

Survivors include son, Henry Jackson; grandchildren, Tammy Walker, Stacye Ballinger, Marion Jackson, Bobby Chambers, Chad Richardson, Lois Jackson, Promise Chambers, Lester Chappelle (Brandy), Ruben Chapelle (Liz), Billy Jackson, Jason Chambers, Christina Jackson, Lawnell Jackson; 47 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

William L. “Bill” Callahan, Jr.  1941 - 2021

Catherine Alice “Cat” Wells, 57, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021.

She was born March 1, 1964, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Charles and Ada (Healey) Wells.

Cat worked for BMS Logistics for several years.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, garage sales, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, decorating for Christmas, but most of all spending time with her friends and fur-babies.

Cat was preceded in death by her parents.

Emilie M. Lucas, 82, of St. Joseph, MO passed away peacefully at her home.

She was born in Fillmore, MO March 7, 1939 to Ellis and Jessie Taylor. Emilie married James A. Lucas April 5, 1959.

She worked as a Flight Coordinator at Fort Leavenworth and retired in 2001, and later worked at American Family Insurance in Word Processing and as a housekeeper.

Emilie enjoyed spending time with her family, crafting, needlepointing, reading, and was a gifted cook and loved spoiling everyone with her wonderful pies, cakes, homemade bread and peanut butter balls. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends &amp; neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Virgil “Buster” Taylor and Betty Fuller.

She is survived by brother Donald R. Taylor, sons Rick (Debbie) Lucas, Randy (Sharman) Lucas, Ronnie (Mardi) Lucas, grandchildren Tricia, Emilie, Josh, Abby, Nick, Stacie, Stephen, Christi, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Justin Tyler “Catch-Up” McNeiley, 37, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 22, 2021.

He was born December 14, 1983 in St. Joseph to Marshall and Linda (Rose) McNeiley. He was a 2002 graduate of Savannah High School. Justin proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard, where he was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was also a full, active member of The Outlaws MC.

Justin was a maintenance engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration facility in Olathe, Kansas, for many years.

He enjoyed horses and many outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and was an avid shooter. Most of all, he loved spending time with his nieces and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Survivors include his father, Marshall (Denise); his mother, Linda; sister, Amanda (Kieth) Gardner; nephew, Mitchell (Shelby) Gardner; nieces, Delaney and Peyton Gardner; good friend, Daniel Richey and his family; and his beloved dog, Beau.

Dallas was born on October 23, 1943 in Wathena, Kansas to Oscar and Lydia (Schultz) Pohl.&nbsp;&nbsp;He is a lifelong resident of Wathena and farmed. &nbsp;

Dallas graduated Wathena High School in 1961. He was of the Christian Faith.&nbsp;

He married Evelyn King on February 15, 1964 at the Burr Oak Baptist Church, Wathena, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She survives of the home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dallas was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Stanley Pohl.&nbsp;

Additional survivors include his son, Dennis Pohl (Cheryl) of Wathena&nbsp;

Dale Cluck, 84, of Troy, Kansas passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021, at his home.&nbsp;

Dale was born January 14, 1937, in Severance, Kansas to Clarence Sr. and Josephine (Triplett) Cluck.&nbsp;&nbsp;He lived his entire life in Troy.&nbsp;&nbsp;He went to work for Ainlay Grain Company in Troy in 1955.&nbsp;&nbsp;He retired from Wilbur-Ellis in 2013.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dale joined the Troy National Guard in 1955.&nbsp;

From his early teen years, Dale worked almost his entire life at the grain elevators in Troy and Wathena, Ks. It was during that time that Dale began to discover his love for trucks. He started collecting his own dumps and then semis. But Dale’s pride and joy was his 1980 K.W. that he had fully restored. Dale was still operating the K.W. in the weeks just before he passed hauling grain for harvest. On many of Dale’s trucking adventures his good buddy Tom Simpson was always along.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dale also had a love for horses and always had at least one Chihuahua, in their home. Dale’s greatest love was spending time with his family. During his last year they cleared a piece of property and grew a big garden there.&nbsp;&nbsp;God got a hard worker, but Dale might be ready for just a short vacation first.&nbsp;

He married Violet Winkel on March 27, 1959, in Troy.&nbsp;&nbsp;She survives of the home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dean Cluck, Clarence W. Cluck, Jr., an infant brother, Larry Don Cluck.&nbsp;

Jim Giefer, 86 passed on to Glory. He died Oct 24th 2021, at the local St. Joseph hospital. He was born in South Mound, Kansas, parents Frank &amp; Anna Giefer. Jim was the youngest of 7 sisters and 4 brothers who have all proceeded him in death.

Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, who&nbsp; loved to spend time with his family. He graduated 1953 from St. Patrick's High School in Parsons, Kansas, where he met his lifelong sweetheart of 67 years, Shirley Benson. They married in 1954. Jim worked for Wells Fargo 30 years before retiring in 1989 to join his wife working at their owned business, OK Trophy.

Jim enjoyed life to the fullest. He dearly loved his family and friends. Jim was a member of Knights of Columbus, 4th degree and served as a board member of the Local City Softball Association.

Jim has 3 children, Christy Giefer Lyons (Mike), Jim E Giefer, Jr (Lindy), Nancy Giefer Hummel (David), who he loved them all unconditionally and cherished them individually.

Jim has 6 grandchildren, Jamie (Nate), Jackie (Andrew), Katy (Brandon), Matthew, Megan, and Rachel. He enjoyed spending time with each one.

Jim has 8 great grandchildren, Treyton, Andrew, Luck, James, Grace, Bennett, Charlotte, and Stella. He always said how blessed he was to have such a great family.

A Rosary will be held at Heaton-Bowman Smith Sidenfaden Chapel October 28th at 5:00, with a visitation following from 6:00-8:00. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis on October 29th at 10:30.

Graveside service will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery following the mass.

Jim Giefer, 86 passed on to Glory. He died Oct 24th 2021, at the local St. Joseph hospital. He was born in South Mound, Kansas, parents Frank &amp; Anna Giefer. Jim was the youngest of 7 sisters and 4 brothers who have all proceeded him in death.Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, who&nbsp; loved to spend time with his family. He graduated 1953 from St. Patrick's High School in Parsons, Kansas, where he met his lifelong sweetheart of 67 years, Shirley Benson. They married in 1954. Jim worked for Wells Fargo 30 years before retiring in 1989 to join his wife working at their owned business, OK Trophy.Jim enjoyed life to the fullest. He dearly loved his family and friends. Shirley “Sami” (Hamilton) Goetz, 79, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Saturday October 23, 2021 at a local health care facility.

She was born July 17, 1942, in Maryville, MO. She is the daughter of Clifford and Pauline Hamilton of Clearmont, MO.

Shirley is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University. While there she earned a degree in elementary education. She went on to teach in the Saint Joseph School District.

While she was working for the Saint Joseph School District, she met the love of her life Mike Goetz. They married on June 25, 1966 and spent the next 52 years together.

Shirley’s hobbies were reading and crafting.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Goetz, and parents, Clifford and Pauline Hamilton.

She is survived by her children, Michael Goetz IV (Christina), James P. Goetz (Carol), her in-laws Richard and Mignon Deshon, and her grandchildren Jordyn, Michael, Alison, Hudson, and Neva.

William "Bill" J. Gatton Jr. 79, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 at his home. 

He was born November 21, 1941 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Minnie and William Gatton Sr. He attended St. Johns Seminary in Kansas City, MO. Then worked at Continental Can Corporation, retired from Quaker Oats, and retired from the St. Joseph School District. Bill volunteered for several years at the Red Cross and for the St. Joseph Police Department. His passion was woodworking. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Andy and Frank Gatton. 

Survivors include, wife, Sandy L. Gatton of the home, son, Terry (Lori) Monger, St. Joseph, MO, daughters, Kelly (Bob) Dynes, St. Joseph, Joel Gatton, Paola, KS, and Shannon Gatton, St. Joseph, MO, three grandchildren: Hannah, Rylee, and Josh, two great grandchildren: Aubree and Gunner, sisters, Patricia Shipley, Mary Hosey, Sue Mollus, and Teresa Miller.

He was born January 30, 1973 in St. Joseph, son of Donna and Millard Ferguson Sr. Tracy worked at several area bars as security and a bartender. He enjoyed going to the casino, and spending time with his family.

She graduated from Benton High School class of 1959, and she retired from the City of St. Joseph as a Parking Lot Cashier. She then worked as a lunch room lady for the St. Joseph School District. She enjoyed the casino, playing cards, doing yard work, and Diane was a member of RLDS. 

Diane was preceded in death by her husband, James Wright, her parents, and a son, Wesley Nigh, Jr.

Cheryl Rachel Mendenhall, 56, passed away on October 11, 2021, at 
Azria Health after being a special part of Rosewood Services since 
2005.&nbsp; She was born on September 11, 1968, at Wichita, Kan. and blessed 
in joining her parents, James N. &amp; Elvera (Serbin) Riemann.

A long-time resident of Barton County, Cheryl was a very cheerful, 
fun loving, person who enjoyed socializing with her peers.&nbsp; From her 
time working at Pizza Hut, which she was very proud of, clear thru her 
time at Rosewood Services NextDoor, after her failing health, she was 
very upbeat and social.&nbsp; She was well known for her joking, ornery 
personality and big smile.&nbsp;&nbsp; She enriched others’ lives in the good 
times and in the bad; she loved to be around others in the community or

 in the annual Rodeo.&nbsp; She enjoyed being outdoors in the garden tending 
to the tomatoes, or at the Ranch in the orchard, harvesting the apples, 
grapes, and berries.&nbsp; She had a very bright, shining personality and 
will be greatly missed, by all those that were blessed in knowing her.

Survivors include her 3 children, son, Lonnie Mendenhall and 
grandchildren of Atchinson, KS; daughter, Geraldine (Matthew) Beals, and
 grandchildren, Rachael, Elliott, and Elaine of Clatskanie, OR; twin 
sister Carol (Henry) Rowe of Salina, KS; brother, James (Leah) Riemann, 
Jr., of Bismark, SD and sister Tammy. &nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in passing by 
her parents.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 25, 
2021, at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with Pastor Larry Schumacher
 presiding. &nbsp;A dinner for her family and friends will be held after in 
celebration of Cheryl’s life. A private family inurnment will be held at
 a later date.

2005.&nbsp; She was born on September 11, 1968, at Wichita, Kan. and blessed 
in joining her parents, James N. &amp; Elvera (Serbin) Riemann.A long-time resident of Barton County, Cheryl was a very cheerful, 
fun loving, person who enjoyed socializing with her peers.&nbsp; From her 
time working at Pizza Hut, which she was very proud of, clear thru her 
time at Rosewood Services NextDoor, after her failing health, she was 
very upbeat and social.&nbsp; She was well known for her joking, ornery 
personality and big smile.&nbsp;&nbsp; She enriched others’ lives in the good 
times and in the bad; she loved to be around others in the community or

Harry Donald Coffman, 88, Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021.

On June 15, 1933, he was born in Bakersfield, California, to Kimsy and Icy (Taylor) Coffman. Harry was raised in Savanna, Oklahoma, where he fell in love with and then married Betty Hoover on July 24, 1954. Together they toured the world during his service in the U.S. Army.

After returning home, Harry went on to earn his bachelor’s in Chemistry from Oklahoma State University. A Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 64, Harry received an outstanding leadership award from national headquarters for his involvement. He retired from a long career with the FDA in St. Louis, Missouri, and shared almost 64 years of marriage with his beloved Betty, who preceded him in death on May 1, 2018, after which he moved to St. Joseph to be with family. Harry was a member of First Christian Church in St. Joseph, where he was active in community and church social clubs. He enjoyed his time volunteering at Mosaic hospital and reading to schoolchildren. His passions included playing golf, gardening, watching football with friends and family, and writing poetry. A kind and witty man who always put others first. A true gentleman, Harry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. To know Harry was to love him.

Harry is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John, Merryman, Grady, Irene, and Kimsy.

Survivors include his daughter, Dana Meers (Jim), son, Greg Coffman (Lisa), Sorento, IL; and grandsons, Jakob Ehlert (Ali), and Harrison Meers; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Harrington and James Hoover (Patsy), McAlester, OK).

Frank Wilson, a resident of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away on October 15, 2021. Frank was son of John Franklin Wilson, Sr. and Shirley Ann Wilson. Frank was born February 11, 1962, and raised in Saint Joseph, Missouri where he attended Central High School.

Frank was an avid carpenter and mechanic. He loved riding his Harley every chance he got, collecting watches and spending time watching NASCAR with his dog Athena.

Frank is preceded in death by his father John Wilson, Sr. and sister Anna Johnson.

He is survived by his mother Shirley Wilson; Daughter Veronica Leidy/Bever, Son-in-law Ryan Bever, grand children Jalynn Leidy, Tucker Leidy, &amp; Bralie Pedersen; Daughter Janell Carr, Son-in-law Charles Carr, grand children Myles Kline, Ulysses Kline &amp; Aurora Carr; Daughter Tamara Meisinger, Son-in-law Adam Meisinger, granddaughter Gracie Meisinger; and his sibling John Wilson Jr.
