James E. “Jim” Twombly, of White Cloud, passed away peacefully at his home March 3, 2021, surrounded by family.&nbsp; He was 69.

Jim was born and grew up in Dennison, Kansas March 19, 1951, the son of the late Edward L. Twombly.

Survivors are his wife Barbara “Charlene” Edie of 20 years, his brother William Twombly of Dennison, KS, sister Cindy Cluck of Highland, children:&nbsp; Michael Ballman of Hiawatha, Trina Shugurt of Leavenworth, Tara of Wichita, Maria Wenger of Topeka, Benjamin Twombly of Hiawatha, Chrissy Twombly of Robinson, Aurelia Rolland of St. Joseph, MO, and many grandchildren, great-grands, and many nieces and nephews.

He loved antiques and was the one who started the Sparks Flea Market.&nbsp; Jim loved to fish, trap, hunt coons, play pool, raise dogs, and gardening.&nbsp; He was a fun loving guy!

Cremation is planned with a celebration of his life will be held when Covid restrictions are lifted.

Deborah Lynn Hall, 58, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021 at a local health care facility. 

She was born September 1, 1962 in St. Joseph, daughter of Donna and Virgil Hall. She graduated from Benton High School and Missouri Western State College. Debbie earned her Master's in Mathematics. She was a Teacher for the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools for most of her career. Debbie's hobbies included reading fantasy literature, working puzzles, quilting and country music. 

She was preceded in death by father, Virgil Hall and granddaughter, Molly Davis. 

Survivors include, mother, Donna Hall of St. Joseph, sons, Joshua (Valerie) Hall and Zachary Davis, sister, Sherry Hall, granddaughters, Ariel &amp; Chloe Hall and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Robert "Bob" Sale, 94 of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021. He was born February 6, 1927 in St. Joseph, to the late Paul and Inez (Bay) Sale. He married Vivian "JoAnn" Sale in Lincoln, NE, and with this union had five children together.

Bob joined the Merchant Marines by the age of 17. He later joined the U.S. Army, and was a chef to the officers in World War II. He was a watch maker for Joe Optician's and Creviston's, retiring at age 87.

Bob loved trains and enjoyed playing with his train set. He liked using his telescope to see the moon and stars.

Surviving family include his children; Brenda Joyce Sale, Karen Sue Hershewe, Rhonda Jean Sale-Evans, and Steven M. Sale; and brother, Melvin Paul Sale.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoAnn; son, Robert "Robbie" Sale, brothers, Edwin and Lewis Sale; sisters, Juanita, Juana, Laverna and Ruby.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at our chapel. Interment at Memorial Park.

Hamilton (Ham) Henderson, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri, made his journey home to the Lord, Tuesday, March 2, 2021 surrounded by his family.

He was born July 9, 1946 to Oliver, Sr. and Mary (Green) Henderson in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Hamilton was a dedicated educator and positive influence in St. Joseph. He attended Bartlett, Horace Mann and Washington grade schools later graduating from Lafayette High School. He furthered his education at Missouri Western Junior College and Northwest Missouri State University where he received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Black History and Education Administration. He taught at Central High School for 40 years. Ham was inducted into the Black Archives Hall of Fame in 2020. He will be dearly missed.

Hamilton attended Hosea Chapel and St. Francis Baptist Church. He was a devoted member of the Delta Chi fraternity. Ham was involved with Scouting and coaching gymnastics. He enjoyed flower gardening, collecting African artifacts and most of all gatherings surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver, Sr. and Mary Henderson; brother, Oliver Henderson, Jr.; and sister, Gwendolyn Washington.

Survivors include son, Lyonell Henderson; sisters, Mary Petty of Fayette, Missouri and Nancy Rucker (Steve); brothers, James Henderson (Joslyn) of Minnesota, Oliver Henderson of Olathe, Kansas and Eugene

Minda Michelle Miller, 25, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

She was born February 15, 1996 in Carson City, NV, daughter of Margaret and Ricky Miller. Minda attended Benton High School. She had worked as an In-Home Caretaker. Minda loved being a mother and taking care of her kids. She was very adventurous and overall a free spirit who loved life.

Minda Michelle Miller, 25, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. She was born February 15, 1996 in Carson City, NV, daughter of Margaret and Ricky Miller. Minda attended Benton High School. She had worked as an In-Home Caretaker. Minda loved being a mother and taking care of her kids. She was very adventurous and overall a free spirit who loved life. John Thomas Smith 88, of De Kalb, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 in Cameron Missouri. 

He was living at the Cameron Veterans Home. John was born January 24, 1933 near Sugar Creek, MO, son of the late Sterlie and Alvin Smith. He graduated from DeKalb High School, class of 1950, he then served in the United States Army as a Medic, and he is a veteran of the Korean War. He married Jeraldine Sue Murphy on April 16, 1954, and later purchased the Murphy Family Farm, and he was active in farming until his retirement. He was very talented and could do most anything, he repaired all of his cars, and machinery, built several barns, and finished the family home. John was ahead of his time, he was the only farmer in Northwest Missouri to use irrigation to water his tobacco crop. He taught several neighborhood teens how work in the fields. John loved the Lord, his family, and his farm. John and Jeraldine were married 65 years, and to this union, they raised 2 daughters, and a son. They were blessed with twins. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, son, Dana Smith, brothers, David &amp; Wallace Smith, sisters, Betty Slove, Ruth Ann Bodenhausen, and Beulah Hoover. 

John is survived by his wife of 65 years Jeraldine of the home, two daughters; Renee (Larry) Parkhurst, and Danette (John) Hanson, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services and Interment will be conducted on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 3:00 pm at the Union Cemetery, Faucett, MO. Viewing and register book available from 1-5 pm at the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers to the DeKalb Christian Church.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Robert Joseph Baker, 91, of St. Joseph passed away, Tuesday March 2nd, 2021.&nbsp; Robert was born in Stewartsville, MO to Victor and Stella Maude Baker.

Robert graduated from Stewartsville High school in 1947 and served his country in the US Army in the Korean Conflict.&nbsp;

He married Esther Dawson in 1954, his lifelong partner of 67 years.&nbsp; Together Robert and Esther raised their family in St. Joseph, and he worked for Wire Rope Corporation over 20 years.

Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Esther and siblings Victor Baker, Virginia Cooper, Donald Baker, William (Bill) Baker.

Robert is survived by his children Deborah (Dennis) Rathburn, Diana (Steven) Alden, Kevin Baker, and Roger Baker, grandchildren Adrienne (Nici) Dunaway, Sarah Clark, Andrew (AJ) Alden, Emma Baker, Joseph Baker, John (Jack) Baker, three great grandchildren and siblings Edward Baker and Carolyn Goacher.

A private graveside interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.

A family visitation and memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.

Melinda Sue “Mendi” (Ashworth) Marriott, 55, of Longs, South Carolina, formerly of Troy, Kansas passed away Friday, February 26, 2021 in Little River, South Carolina.&nbsp;

Mendi was born on March 8, 1965 in St. Joseph, Missouri to William “Butch” and Sharon (Akles) Ashworth.&nbsp;

She worked as a receptionist for Heartland Healthcare for over 25 years and was a homemaker. Since moving to South Carolina Mendi became “Mini Poppins,” to her three precious grandchildren. &nbsp;Not only did she do fun and exciting things with them, she blessed their mommy and daddy by keeping their house spotless.

Mendi married Darrel Marriott on April 7, 1984 in Troy, Kansas. He survives of the home. Mendi was a member of Troy Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her father William “Butch” Ashworth and father-in-law, John Marriott.&nbsp;

Additional survivors: daughter, Tamra Danielle (Nathan) Almeida, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.&nbsp;

Thomas Samuel “Sam” Williams, longtime area auctioneer, died early March 2, 2021, at Two Timbers in Highland.&nbsp; He was 92.

Sam was born in a farm home north of Sparks, &nbsp;May, 30, 1928,&nbsp; one of three children born to Percival Earl and Maud L. French Williams.&nbsp; He attended country schools near Sparks/Troy area prior to Sparks High School for three years, before graduating from Troy High School with the class of 1946.&nbsp; He worked in South Dakota when received an invite to serve his county.&nbsp; It was during the Korean Conflict, discharged from the Army at the rank of corporal.&nbsp; He returned to Doniphan County where he went to work for Raymond Gaul on the farm.&nbsp; He wanted to be an auctioneer and was going to go to auctioneer school when Horace Williams offered to teach him the trade.&nbsp; Thus became Williams Auction Service, working on his own, picking up sale barns to auction in the area as time went along, thus having an auction every day but Sunday.&nbsp; In later years, as sale barns in the area closed, Sam then concentrated solely on the auction service….he would sell anything:&nbsp; animals, farm equipment, household items…..probably even ice cubes to eskimos!&nbsp;&nbsp; He married Leola M. Peuker, January 12, 1951.&nbsp; Leola was a good fit for the auction service as she was his clerk.&nbsp; In later years, their son Tom joined them with Sam retiring after 40 years of service.

Sam attended the Community of Christ in Fanning for many years.&nbsp; He was a member Wenger Post #373, Powhattan American Legion, BPOE #1741, Hiawatha Elks Lodge, and National Rifle Assn. He loved sports and to hunt.

Survivors include his wife Leola of Two Timbers in Highland; son Tom (Connie) Williams, daughter Elaine Oldridge (Jim), all of Hiawatha; 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Also surviving a sister in law Evelyn Twombly, two brothers in law Duane Rodecap and Clarence Trant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Donna Trant, Shirley Rodecap; two brothers in law: Jim Twombly and Glen Losson.

Friends may sign the register book at Chapel Oaks FH , Hiawatha, from 10 until 5 p.m. Thursday and till noon Friday.

Thomas Samuel “Sam” Williams, longtime area auctioneer, died early March 2, 2021, at Two Timbers in Highland.&nbsp; He was 92.Sam was born in a farm home north of Sparks, &nbsp;May, 30, 1928,&nbsp; one of three children born to Percival Earl and Maud L. He was born May 5, 1958 to Barry and Phyllis Wysling.

Brad was an eccentric, stubborn man that loved to laugh and joke around. His favorite all-time word was “f***.” He was a diehard Biden supporter and loved to boat, fish, hunt and garden.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Krystal Wysling; son, Paul Shipley; father, Barry Wysling I; and mother, Phyllis Neal.

James Edward Bigham, 85, of Gower, MO passed away peacefully March 1, at Mosaic Life Care surrounded by loving family.

Jim was born September 20, 1935 to Robert Morton Bigham and Georgia (Wuerfele) Bigham.

Jim graduated from Central High School in 1952 and joined the Missouri Air National Guard (ANG) in 1953, retiring in December 1993.&nbsp; While in the ANG he served as First Sergeant for the 180th Flying Squadron for over 20 years.&nbsp; Jim was deployed to United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm for which he was awarded the Bronze Star.&nbsp; He was the recipient of many additional medals and commendations as well.

In 1957, Jim married Ruth Henkowski and together they had eight children.&nbsp; Their marriage ended, but they remained friends.

Jim loved bowling and was a youth coach.&nbsp; He bowled two 300 games and a 299.&nbsp; He was a member of the St. Joseph Bowler's Hall of Fame.&nbsp; Jim was an active outdoorsman, always on the move.&nbsp; He took great pride in grooming his historical Bigham Century Farm which he shared with his two protective cats.&nbsp; Jim never let grass grow under his feet.

Jim was proud of his children and grandchildren and loved them dearly.&nbsp; He will be missed by all of them.

Mr. Bigham is survived by: his best friend and companion, Rosalie Bigham; children, Stephen (Kim) Bigham, Jamie (Mark) Neu, Diane (Jim ) Anderson, Marlene (Terry) Seiter, Mark Bigham (Dianna McKinney), John (Kelly) Bigham, Marty (Amy) Bigham; twin brother Mort (Jackie) Bigham; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren soon to be 32 and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Susan Renee Bigham, and stepdaughter Heather Riley.

Visitation will be 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday March 4, 2021 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.&nbsp; Masks are required.&nbsp; A private family service will be held.

James Bigham  1935 - 2021

Marion Elizabeth Pettigrew (Stoos) passed away February 27, 2021 at her home in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Marion was born August 19, 1933 to William (Bill) and Elizabeth Stoos (Wall). She graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, Missouri. She married Curtis Pettigrew on May 6, 1955. Marion worked at the Commercial Credit Corporation for a few years and then operated a childcare business out of her home in South Myrna Manor for over thirty years. She provided daycare for hundreds of families and cared for several second-generation children. It was important to her for each child to receive a Christmas gift from her every year they were in her care. She was famous among the children for her fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches.

Marion was a Christian and had faith in her Lord. She loved to talk and visit with friends and family. She had the kindest heart, knew no anger, and always lived on the sunny side of life. She lived to see her children happy, loved to spend precious time with her grandchildren, and adored her two nieces, Marion (Randy) Mecca and Katie (Mike) Smith. Marion is preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Meder, and her sister, Dorothy Farr. She is survived by her husband, Curtis; son Tom and his wife, Beate of Shawnee, Kansas; son Greg and his wife, Susan of St. Joseph, Missouri; son Shawn and his wife, Mandy of Kidder, Missouri; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Stanley "Stan" K. Bigelow 66, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his home. 

He was born August 24, 1954 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Patricia and Donald Bigelow Jr. He graduated from Lafayette High School, &nbsp;and he attended Missouri Western State University for 2 years. He married Rita "Susie" Rathburn on April 4, 1975 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. He was a St. Joseph Police Officer for several years, then worked most of his career in the corrugated box industry, retiring from Weyerhauser Corporation after 20 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing (especially in Canada.) He was an avid chiefs fan, and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Stan was a member of FOP, the Community Police Advisory Committee, the Cathedral School Board, and he was a Christian. 

He was preceded in death by father, Donald Lee Bigelow Jr. &nbsp;

Survivors include, wife, Susie Bigelow of the home, mother, Patricia Bigelow, St. Joseph, MO, son, Brian (Jacqueline) Bigelow, Olathe, KS, daughter, Christina (Scott) Johnson, St. Joseph, MO, brother, Wayne Bigelow (Jeannie Scott), St. Joseph, sister, Dawn Bigelow-White, St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Bryan &amp; Billy Willson, Brooklyn &amp; Breigh Bigelow, Madison &amp; Noah Johnson, and Colby Thornton.

He married Rita "Susie" Rathburn on April 4, 1975 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. He was a St. Joseph Police Officer for several years, then worked most of his career in the corrugated box industry, retiring from Weyerhauser Corporation after 20 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing (especially in Canada.) He was an avid chiefs fan, and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Stan was a member of FOP, the Community Police Advisory Committee, the Cathedral School Board, and he was a Christian. He was preceded in death by father, Donald Lee Bigelow Jr. &nbsp;Survivors include, wife, Susie Bigelow of the home, mother, Patricia Bigelow, St. Joseph, MO, son, Brian (Jacqueline) Bigelow, Olathe, KS, daughter, Christina (Scott) Johnson, St. Joseph, MO, brother, Wayne Bigelow (Jeannie Scott), St. Joseph, sister, Dawn Bigelow-White, St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Bryan &amp; Billy Willson, Brooklyn &amp; Breigh Bigelow, Madison &amp; Noah Johnson, and Colby Thornton. Funeral services: 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor Chris Olson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Ruth M. Hudson, 87, of St. Joseph surrounded by her loving family at home, left to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 26, 2021. 

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Hazel Witt, and three brothers, Norman, Bob, and Tom Witt. 

Survivors of the home include her loving husband of 35 years, Dale V. Hudson, and a daughter, Nancy Briggs. She is also survived by Joyce (Tom) Bunse, Karen Hudson, Tammy Conway, Bob (Rhonda) Hudson, Dale V. Hudson Jr. (Colette), Joe (Marsha) Hudson, Tom (Shannon) Hudson, Chris (Theresa) Watkins, 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Mrs. Hudson will be cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home, and there are no scheduled services per Ruth's wishes. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.

Maria D. Valdes-Saldamando, 45, of St. Joseph, formerly of Cuba, died Friday, February 26, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care. 

Born April 21, 1975 in Cuba to her late parents, Mario Valdes and Josephine Saldamando. Maria worked in production at Triumph Foods in St. Joseph. 

Survivors include her companion, Alexis Carrion Isaac of St. Joseph, daughter, Maricelis, and son, Arian, both of Cuba.

Gregory Lee Pfleiderer, age 64, passed on February 25, 2021 in Saint Joseph, MO.  Gregory was born in Saint Joseph, MO on March 14, 1956, to Lloyd and Charlene Pfleiderer. 

 Gregory graduated from Maysville High School in 1974.  He married Cynthia Benedict on October 20, 1975.  He loved his family dearly as a son, husband, father, and ‘Papa’.  He enjoyed family time, hunting and fishing.  He was a man of many trades and owned a floor installation business.  Gregory has five children: William, Gregory, Lloyd, Kelsey and Heather. 

 Gregory was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Pfleiderer and  siblings Brent Pfleiderer and Cynthia Pfleiderer. 

Gregory is survived by his wife, Cynthia Pfleiderer, his father, Lloyd Pfleiderer, his brothers Roderick Pfleiderer and Bart Pfleiderer, three children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Jessica A. Edwards-Smith, 28, Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021.

She was born February 11, 1993 to Rick and Ann (Grier) Edwards. Jessica graduated from Central High School in 2011.

She enjoyed shopping and dining with her mom, fishing with her dad and spending time with her son, Michael. She loved dragonflies and playing softball. She had a strong work ethic, a huge heart of gold and a beautiful, infectious smile. Jessica would help anyone in need and was an avid caretaker.

Jessica previously worked at: Kmart, Hy-Vee, Dunkin Donuts, Mosaic and Coca-Cola.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Courtney Edwards; her grandparents, Kathleen and Bill Grier and Chick and Phyllis Peavy.

Survivors include her parents, Rick and Ann Edwards; brother, Jason Edwards; aunt and uncle Susan (Randy) Stewart of Tampa, Florida; uncle, Pat Grier; husband, Nate Smith; son, Michael Smith; cousins and numerous close friends.
