Velma married James L. “Joe” McDaniel on December 25, 1938. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2003.

Union Star, Missouri… Tonya Lee Maize, age 52, was born June 30, 1970, in St. Joseph, Missouri the daughter of Dwight and Nancy (Hailey) Teaford and on November 18, 2022, she went home to be with the Lord.&nbsp;

Tonya was a 1988 graduate of Union Star High School. On May 21, 1998, she was united in marriage to Steve Maize.

Tonya enjoyed scrapbooking and antiquing, and especially going to events for her grandchildren, Evan and Rheagan. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat. Most of all she loved her family, showing that every day by taking care of her boys and grandchildren.&nbsp;

Tonya is preceded in death by her aunt, Nena Hailey and mother-in-law, Sandra Maize.&nbsp;

Martin Ray Highlander, 72, of Platte City, MO passed away November 18, 2022.

He
 was born on November 2, 1950, to William Franklin and Mary (Martin) 
Highlander in Platte City, MO where grew up and graduated from Platte 
City High School.  He later attended Northwest Missouri State University
 in Maryville, MO where he received two bachelor’s degrees.&nbsp;

Marty was lifelong farmer and enjoyed bowling and golfing.&nbsp;

He

Highlander and his brother Franklin “Skippy” Highlander.

Adina Janee "Dina" Adamson, 46, died unexpectedly November 17, 2022, 
near her home. She was born March 9, 1976, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Pamela 
(Gerdes) Adamson and Jesse Adamson.&nbsp;

Her early years were spent in Oklahoma before moving to Atchison, 
Kansas, in 1985. She attended Atchison High School graduating with the 
class of 1994.&nbsp;

The last several years she was self-employed running her own cleaning
 service. Her greatest achievement and joy were her family. 
Affectionately known as 'GG' by her grandchildren she was a devoted 
mother, grandmother, partner, daughter and friend.&nbsp;

Her favorite place to be was on a beach surrounded by family.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Jimalou and Calvin 
Adamson; Joseph Gerdes; Jack’s son, Jonathan Craig; and four uncles: 
John, Dee and Jerry Adamson, Joseph "Joey" Gerdes. &nbsp;

Adina is survived by her longtime partner, Jack Craig, and his 
children, Andrew (Megan) Craig, Cassie (Eric) Pickhinke, Brad (Mario) 
Craig; her sons, Joseph (Allison) and Eli Widner; her daughter, Kassie 
(Kurtiss) Burge; granddaughters Sophia, Laekyn, Mileigh, Olivia, Aria,

nieces, Laura Ware, of Portland, Or., and Carolyn Seifert of Las Vegas, 
NV. and one Nephew, Donald Yarnell of Portland, Or., and their families.

Anna May retired from the State of Missouri and was a member of 
the Rebekah Lodge of Agency, Mo. She was a long-time member of the 
Huffman United Methodist Church of St. Joseph. She will be greatly 
missed by family and friends.

Anna Marie Kalamon 55, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022 in a Savannah, MO health care center. 

She was born June 29, 1967 in St. Joseph, Missouri, daughter of the late Veronica &amp; John Kalamon. She graduated from Benton High School, class of 1985. She worked at Hillshire Brand as a Forklift Operator. 

She enjoyed making Ukrainian eggs, and she was a former member of the St. Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church. 

Anna was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: brothers, John Kalamon, Terry (Candy) Kalamon, and Chris Kalamon, sisters, Lori Bailey and Catherine (Jarred) Bennet, as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Kenneth M. Carter, 74, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022, at his home.

He was born May 22, 1948 in the old Memorial Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., son of Joseph Lee and Thelma (Moore) Carter.

He grew up in the High Prairie Community, attending a one-room school for the first two years. He developed his love of walking during this time. His third grade started at King City, Mo. He graduated from high school in 1966.

He worked briefly at the Stanberry, Mo., cap factory until he got 1A draft classification from Andrew County in 1966. At that time he volunteered for Naval sea duty. He was on the USS Hopewell-DD-681. He retired in October 2004 as a BMI after 20 years of as a reservist in the Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 114.

He was groundskeeper at the St. Joseph Country Club for over 35 years and served as custodian for DeKalb School from 2005 until retirement on September 1, 2014.

He married Vada R. Lollar on June 18, 1972 at the Gallatin Christian Church. They started a maintenance and lawn care business.

He was a member of Word of Life Church and took an active role in Celebrate Recovery. He was also a lifetime member of F.R.A. Branch 161 in Kansas City, Mo., and VFW Post 6760 in St. Joseph, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, Vada; sister, Della (Harold) Trubey of Kansas City, Mo.; and nephew, Robert Joe Trubey.

Maysville, Missouri….Michael “Mikey” Jason Burnett, age 46, was born April 14, 1976 in Cameron, Missouri the son of Michael Lee and Jeannie Rana (Parker) Burnett and passed away November 18, 2022.

Michael graduated from Gallatin High School class of 1994. After graduation, he worked 18 years at Western Missouri Correctional Facility as a correctional officer. He then worked for Swift and Dohrn as a truck driver before coming to work at MFA Propane.&nbsp;

Michael and Michelle (Lowrey) were united in marriage October 3, 2012 on Waialae Beach in Oahu, Hawaii. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially with his girls and his “hot wife” (as he liked to refer to her), creating memories while doing some of his favorite activities, which included fishing, hunting and camping. He has over 20,000 photos on his phone of memories he’s captured with his family and friends over the years. He was a devoted family man and always made sure to spend one on one time with his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his loving wife, Michelle, of the home; father, Michael Lee Burnett, Altamont, MO; four daughters, Maddy, Katelyn Marie “Kat”, Kassidy, and Kaley; brother, Chipper Burnett, Altamont, MO; sister, Misty (Todd) Hunt, Osborn, MO; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins,friends; and his dog, Kain.

Maysville, Missouri….Michael “Mikey” Jason Burnett, age 46, was born April 14, 1976 in Cameron, Missouri the son of Michael Lee and Jeannie Rana (Parker) Burnett and passed away November 18, 2022.Michael graduated from Gallatin High School class of 1994. After graduation, he worked 18 years at Western Missouri Correctional Facility as a correctional officer. He then worked for Swift and Dohrn as a truck driver before coming to work at MFA Propane.&nbsp;Michael and Michelle (Lowrey) were united in marriage October 3, 2012 on Waialae Beach in Oahu, Hawaii. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially with his girls and his “hot wife” (as he liked to refer to her), creating memories while doing some of his favorite activities, which included fishing, hunting and camping. He has over 20,000 photos on his phone of memories he’s captured with his family and friends over the years. He was a devoted family man and always made sure to spend one on one time with his nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his mother.Survivors include his loving wife, Michelle, of the home; father, Michael Lee Burnett, Altamont, MO; four daughters, Maddy, Katelyn Marie “Kat”, Kassidy, and Kaley; brother, Chipper Burnett, Altamont, MO; sister, Misty (Todd) Hunt, Osborn, MO; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins,friends; and his dog, Kain.Family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Maysville. Linda Hardy Zahnd, 90, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2022. She was born May 11, 1932 to H. Russell and Dorothy Maud (Gore) Hardy in Hull, Illinois, and lived most of her childhood in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Normandy High School in 1950 and enrolled at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, where she was initiated into the Beta Sigma Omicron Sorority and was a member of Panaegis. She met her future husband, L. Glen Zahnd of Savannah, Missouri, there. They were wed on June 1, 1953 at Second Baptist Church in Liberty, where they attended during their college years.

Linda finished her senior year as a married woman while Glen began compulsory military service. She graduated with a teaching degree, and the couple moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she taught second grade. Upon Glen’s discharge from the Army the following year, they moved to St. Louis. Linda taught third grade for three years in the same school district she had attended as a child, while Glen studied for and obtained a law degree from Washington University School of Law.

Linda and Glen moved back to Glen’s hometown of Savannah in 1958, where Glen practiced law for nearly three decades before becoming a judge. They raised three children and were very active in the First Baptist Church of Savannah, rarely missing a service. Linda was involved in many church activities, including Women’s Missionary Union and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of Chapter EJ of the PEO Sisterhood, where she served as president for three years, and Semper Fidelis. She also served on the board of the Andrew County Museum.

Linda worked for decades as a substitute teacher in the Savannah School District and was well known as a teacher who demanded classroom decorum, respectful behavior, and would not even tolerate gum-chewing. To this day, however, many former students recall her as their favorite substitute teacher. Her students knew how much she cared for them.

Glen passed away in June 2009, and Linda continued to live in Savannah, remaining active in her church and community life. She lived in Savannah for 59 years, 54 of them in the same house, before moving to McCrite Plaza at Briarcliff in Kansas City in 2017. Immediately upon moving, she transferred her church membership back to Second Baptist Church in Liberty, where she had attended and was married more than six decades earlier. Life had come full circle.

In addition to Glen and her parents Russell and Dorothy, Linda was preceded in death by her brother, Hilera Marcus Hardy, and a brother-in-law, Larry Lee Zahnd.

She is survived by her three children: Brian (Peri) Zahnd of St. Joseph; Melissa (Douglas) Hartwell of Overland Park, Kansas; and Eric (Tracy) Zahnd of Platte Woods. She has eight grandchildren: Caleb (Ashlie) Zahnd of St. Joseph; Aaron (Sarah) Zahnd of St. Joseph; Paul (Julianna) Hartwell of Ankeny, Iowa; Cynthia (Drew) Szczesny; Philip (Sarah Rose) Zahnd of Fort Collins, Colorado; Benjamin Zahnd of Platte Woods; Audrey Hartwell of Overland Park; and Luke Zahnd of Platte Woods.

She also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren: Jude Andrew Zahnd; Mercy Regina Zahnd; Finn Hardy Zahnd; Hope Lynn Zahnd; Evey Merie Zahnd; Pax Wesley Zahnd; Liam Ronald Zahnd; Honor Glen Zahnd; Cora Ray Hartwell; Lila Marie Hartwell; and Amelia Rose Szczesny.

She is also survived by sisters-in-law Carole Zahnd of Kansas City and Judy Hardy Olson of Westport, Connecticut, as well as a brother-in-law, James (Judy) Zahnd of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. There are numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene “E.A.” Kerber, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

He was born June 1, 1929 in St. Joseph to Robert and Anna Belle (Roberts) Kerber.

E.A married Le Anna Kerns on December 16, 1950. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2018.

He retired vice president of production for Champlin Petroleum after over 30 years.

Eugene was a long time Mason and Moila Shrine member.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Lee Anna; and his parents.

Survivors include sons, Robert E. Kerber, and Richard L. Kerber; adopted son, Paul Hinkle; grandson, Rowdy Ray Kerber; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Evan Russell Johnston was born May 23, 1952 in Cameron, Mo and died November 10, 2022 in St. Joseph, MO at the age of 70.

Evan was preceded in death by his mother, Lilly Lankford Johnston, 1923-2004, and his father, Russell Dean Johnston, 1923-2013.

He is survived by his sisters, Valerie Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, and Sharon Johnston Taylor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; aunts, Miriam Hahn of Cameron, MO, Dorothy Ruth Singleton of Torrance, California, and Lois Jane (Pat) Berry; and uncle, Lynn Barry of Cameron, Mo, along with 13 cousins.

Evan was physically disabled from birth, but it didn’t dampen his spirit. He had a fun sense of humor and loved to tease his older sisters. He was a member of the Cameron, MO, Christian Church, and attended Cameron High School, where he sang in the school choir and graduated in 1970.

Evan enjoyed the family get-togethers with his cousins and other family. He loved poetry, and his favorite poem was “Little Boy Blue” by Eugene Field.

He attended a small-engine repair school after high school, went to St. Louis, MO with his father to help set up a halfway house, returned to Cameron, MO, then moved to St. Joseph, MO, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Evan died at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO, on November 10, 2022. Although he never married and had no children, he loved his family and they were always in his heart. He will be missed. He was 70 years old.

Ronald Doyle Wrehe, 68, Lees Summit, Missouri, passed away Monday November 14, 2022, at his home.

He was born September 25, 1954, in St. Joseph to Robert and Ada Eudora (Robison) Wrehe. He was a 1973 graduate of Central High School where he was inducted into the Central High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 with his 1973 baseball team. He earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Missouri Western State University.

Ron married Cynthia (Cindy) Louise Thompson on October 15, 1977. She survives of the home.

He worked in sales at Boyle Midway in Wichita, Kansas, and Hillyard Chemical in St. Joseph and then as finance manager for Dick Smith Ford in Kansas City, Missouri. He most recently worked at Arrow Truck Sales in Kansas City, before retiring due to health in 2022.

Ron was a member of Charity Zeredetha Lodge #189 of St. Joseph. He also volunteered for the Special Olympics.

Ron loved baseball and played from age 7 through college and coached his sons throughout their childhood. Ron was thrilled to mentor his son Zach as he began his high school baseball coaching career. He was an avid fan of the Oklahoma Sooners, Kansas City Chiefs, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dodie Wrehe; his parents-in-law, John and Jeanne Thompson; and his brother-in-law Jim Watson.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Cynthia (Cindy); his sons, Erich Michael Wrehe and Zachary Bryan Wrehe (Amy); grandchildren, Austin Wrehe and Hazel Brenner; brother, Bob Wrehe (Toni); in-laws, Tom Thompson, Connie Watson and Dennis Thompson (Melissa); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Terry Michael Poores passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at a local healthcare facility, with his family and very good caregivers at his side. He fought along battle with several debilitating health issues. He was 68 years old.

He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on February 8, 1954 to Lorraine and Frank T. Poores, Sr., who preceded him in death. He attended Humboldt Grade School and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1972.

After graduation, he went to work for the St. Joseph News-Press, where he was employed for 50 years in the printing shop. He was taken under the wing of an older employee who taught him his job, which he enjoyed. Terry also had a second job (which we all passed on), 2 to 3 weekly trips to the grocery store for Mom. His pay was a delicious meal before his evening shift.

He liked the Royals but loved the New York Yankees and was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. HE was often called to mother’s house to unscramble the TV remotes so they could watch games. The job of bringing up the artificial Christmas tree and decorations from the basement and returning them afterward was his also. This is where the rest of us say, “Thank you, Brother.” Terry loved his family and never said no to any request for help.

Like so many families, gathering for food and drink was a must and we celebrated these at Mom’s or at Galvins (the Grace’s fine restaurant). Terry loved these events because it brought the family together.

He is survived by son, Cody and his wife, Alanna (daughter-in-law) who, because of her job in healthcare, has been an appreciated asset during this time. Also, daughter, Jennifer Moranville (St. Joseph); sisters, Linda Barnett and Leslie Johnson (Mike) of Platte City, sister Marsha Poores (St. Joseph); and brother, Frank Poores, Jr. There are also many nieces and nephews who he cared about and loved.

Frances Sue Stinson, 95, St. Joseph, Missouri, died Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at a local healthcare facility.

Born July 6, 1927 in Pratt, Kansas, Miss Stinson’s family resided in Larned, Kansas and Kirksville, Missouri before moving to St. Joseph in 1940. Sue was a graduate of Central High School, St. Joseph Junior College and attended one year at the University of Kansas.

She was employed at the former Derge-Bodenhausen Clothing Company for nine years, and the former Nash-Rhodes Clothing Company for seven years. In 1964 she began her career at Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, where she was the office secretary until her retirement in 1992.

Miss Stinson was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian faith. She had been a member of the former Westminster Presbyterian Church and Second Presbyterian Church, and most recently Trinity Presbyterian Church. She fulfilled many roles in church ministries, including Elder, Chairman of Circle #5, secretary of the church school, and in her own words “church committees ad finitum!”

Additionally, she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1954; the Women’s Division of St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce; and St. Joseph Human Rights Commission and Women of the Y.W.C.A. Sue’s curiosity, interest and genuine care for others suited her well for both her professional and volunteer life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. and Vera L. (Furse) Stinson; her sister, Mary Ann Stinson; her brother, Charles Robert “Bob” Stinson; nephew, Steve Armes and great nieces, Shaina and Alyssa Turner.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara J. Stinson of St. Joseph; three nieces Suanne Turner (Jim), St. Joseph, Missouri, Lisa Jean Baugher (Gary), Florissant, Colorado and Kimberly K. Armes, St. Joseph, Missouri; great nieces and nephews, Christen Groff (Justin), Stephanie Armes, Trevor Armes, Miranda Armes, Cailey Armes, Eli Baugher, Isaac Baugher (Katie) and Jacob Baugher; and great-great nieces and nephew, Halo, Lili, Reyna, Addie, Destri, Ellie and Jude.

Gene R. Johnson, 89, Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

He was born January 16, 1933 in Atlantic, Iowa, son of Lloyd and Mary Johnson.

Gene earned his master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State College. He was principal at Plattsburg, MO; superintendent at Lathrop, MO; and principal at McQuerry Grade School in Odessa, MO.

He was a member of the Lions Club in Rosendale, Missouri, and a 50-plus year member of the Masonic Lodge, most recently of the Jefferson Lodge No. 43, A.F. &amp; A.M.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Johnson; and his parents.

Survivors include his daughter, Beth Quinn, Iowa Park, TX; son, David Johnson, Rea, MO; granddaughter, Meredith Yeager, Longview, TX; sister, Joan White, Long Beach, CA; niece, Lisa Cook (Mark) and nephew, Robert Thomas, both of California; and companion of 23 years, Ann Holland, Jefferson City, MO.

Glorya D. “Sally” Hoehn, 95, a lifelong resident of St Joseph, Missouri, entered into eternity with her Lord and Savior on November 15, 2022. Born February 25, 1927 in Wichita Falls, TX to Basil C Hoehn, Sr and Irene (Nowak) Hoehn. Sally was a 1944 graduate of Lafayette High School. She then pursued her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until retirement as a Facilities Supervisor. After retirement, she held many different jobs.

She was a longtime member of St Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church. Here she held many volunteer positions. Sally had been Wedding Coordinator, Lector, Eucharist Minister, Head Sacristan, as well as numerous other volunteer duties that were close to her heart.

Sally has always been an animal advocate especially for dogs. The love and loyalty she had was unmatched. She volunteered with Friends of the Shelter since its inception 22 years ago.

She was a volunteer for numerous organizations, including Mosaic where she served over 1000 hours, Living Community, Open Door Kitchen, Second Harvest, Cathedral Food Pantry, Cathedral Summer Lunch for children, and many others.

During her lifetime Sally was awarded such recognitions as Catholic Bishop’s Award, recipient of the Missouri House of Representatives Resolution for Senior Services, Lieutenant Governor’s Senior Services Award, ABWA Chapter Woman of the Year, Woman of Excellence participant, just to mention a few. She had also served as president of the Altrusa Club of St. Joseph, an executive service club dedicated to civic betterment.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, brother Basil C “Sonny” Hoehn, sister-in-law Marietta S Hoehn, nephew Anthony “Tony” Hoehn, niece in law Katy Hoehn, and grand-niece.

Survivors include niece Teresa (Gary) Steffens, Houston, TX, niece Tammy (Doug) McKeever, Belton, MO, niece Rachel (Eric) Baumgartner, Scottsdale, AZ, niece-in-law Marge Hoehn, Omaha, NE, nephew Thomas J Hoehn, Clearwater, FL, ten grand-nieces and nephews, seven great-grand nieces and nephews, Best Friends Kaye (Steve) Wells and Joe (Sue) Lysaght.

Robbie Stout, 53, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022.

He was born February 11, 1969 in St. Joseph to David Stout, Sr. and Beverly (Miller) Stout. He graduated from Lafayette High School, Class of 1988.

Robbie married Christine Libby Glenn on September 16, 1995. She survives of the home.

He worked as a drywaller in construction.

Robbie enjoyed models, quilting, working on cars, and playing cards and board games. He was a huge Chiefs fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Tracesin.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Christine; son, Skylar (Katelyn); daughter, Aimee Kunzler; two grandsons; brother, David Stout (Ronda); sisters, Beverly Lukehart and Judy Fletcher (Drew); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ronald “Ron” G. Curtis, Sr., 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022.

He was born December 26, 1939 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Harrison and Lydia (Berry) Curtis.

Ron married Carolyn Wilkinson on February 14, 1965. She survives of the home.

He was a member of Emmanuel Seventh-Day Adventist Church in St. Joseph and a former member of Liberty Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Baltimore, Maryland.

Ron was a hardworking, humble man who loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Curtis; and sisters, Leanna Giles and Jean Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; children, Ronald G. Curtis, Jr., Carl Curtis (Johnia), Craig Curtis (Christine), Tracy Curtis-Hurt (Eric), and Travis Curtis; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Louis Curtis (Maddie); and sister, Louise Cole.

Mary Thayer Patrick, 81 of Danville, Iowa, died Sunday, November 13, 2022 at Danville Care Center.

Born
 May 5, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Everett Frederick 
and Cora Lena (Breuer) Miller.  She was of the Methodist faith.

On
 March 30, 1963 she married Wendall “Curtis” Thayer.  He died January 
24, 1994.  Mary married Michael Patrick in 1996.  He died in June 2016.

Mary was a secretary for ProGas, Motorola, Burlington Basket Company, Sylvania and IAAP.

Survivors
 include one daughter Julie (Todd) Howe of Burlington; one son Aaron 
(Robin) Thayer of Gilbert, AZ; six grandchildren Samantha (Rusty) Mears,
 Rachelle (Justin) Fairlie, Kody Howe, Brooke Thayer and Zachary Thayer;
 six great grandchildren Jaxon and Cameron Fairlie, Kingston and Cora 
Mears, Lillianne and Chase Barton and one brother Wayne (Margaret) 
Miller of St. Joseph, MO.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and step mother Violet Ida Miller, her husbands, one brother and one sister.

Per
 her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of 
Lunning Chapel.  There will be no services at this time. Inurnment will 
be at a later date in Prairie Grove Cemetery next to her first husband.

A memorial has been established for the Danville Lions Club.
