Audrey Estelle Connelly, 93, St. Joseph, MO, formerly of Teaneck, NJ; passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Riverside Diversicare with her daughter by her side.

Audrey was born October 13, 1928 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the late Nelson and Mary Estelle Wright.

Audrey worked for AT&amp;T at the beginning of her career, until meeting the love of her life, “Larry” Connelly. They met on a blind date, in Florida; while Audrey was on vacation, and Larry was on a weekend leave with the US Navy.

On July 18, 1953, she married Lawrence Willliam Connelly at St Francis Catholic Church in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. They celebrated sixty-four years of marriage, when he passed on November 15, 2017. From their marriage, they had two wonderful children; Diane and Lawrence.

Audrey was a full-time homemaker, who loved listening to her record collection, as well as cooking, crewel work embroidery, reading books and playing cribbage with Larry.

Her children would say that she never retired, as she continued to take care of their father until he was gone. Though she had another four years after his passing, dementia took her away from us, a little more each day. She is no longer suffering from this awful disease, and is now with Larry and other loved ones where there is no pain, nor tears anymore. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Marie Massing (Joseph), and a son, Lawrence William Connelly (Pamela). She is also survived by four grandchildren; Kelly Anne Shaffer (David), Sarah Jane Cookson (Cain), Sean William Connelly and Ryan Thomas Connelly. There are also 3 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Anne Shaffer, William Allen Shaffer and Leo Parker Cookson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Larry, a sister Priscilla Wintrode, and two brothers, George V Wright and John “Jack” Wright.

Audrey has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. Per her request, there will be no services or visitation at this time.

Alice Slagle Barnard, 88, died peacefully at home early on Tuesday morning, December 14, 2021.&nbsp; Her daughter was with her when she died, and her son and granddaughter had been able to visit just days before.

Alice was born on December 7, 1933, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer Vernon and Lodi Mae (Tarvin) Slagle.&nbsp; She had an older sister, Katherine, and two younger brothers, Douglas and Roy.

Alice graduated from Hugoton High School, Hugoton, Kansas in 1951.&nbsp; She attended college at Fort Hayes State University, Kansas and graduated in 1955 with a BA in Art and English.

Alice met Robert Eugene Barnard in Wichita, Kansas at the apartment complex where they both lived.&nbsp; Alice and Bob married on June 30th, 1962.&nbsp; They were married for 57 years before Bob died in October of 2019.&nbsp; Alice never quite recovered from losing Bob.

Alice and Bob had two children and four grandchildren; daughter Greer Barnard and grandchildren Isaac Pressgrove and Miranda Pressgrove; son Crandall Ross (Natalie) Barnard and twin grandsons Gabe Barnard and Griffin Barnard.&nbsp; All survive.&nbsp; She was proud of all their accomplishments. &nbsp; Alice loved her family (and friends) very much and kept the refrigerator covered with their pictures.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Alice had many interests, notably teaching, reading and politics.&nbsp; These were reflected in her involvement with the community and her career.&nbsp; She was a long-standing member of the League of Women Voters and served on the state board.&nbsp; Alice also served on the Rolling Hills Library Board of Trustees in addition to being an avid patron.&nbsp; She was also a leader in the Ebenezer 4-H club, teaching cooking to numerous members.&nbsp; Alice was also a talented watercolor artist but preferred to share her work with only a small circle of friends and family.

Alice earned a post-baccalaureate teaching certification at Missouri Western State College in her forties.&nbsp; She was the Reading Specialist at Union Star for four years.&nbsp; Afterwards, Alice provided private reading tutoring for fifteen years.&nbsp; She was always happy to see previous students excelling in the community.&nbsp;

Alice is additionally survived by brother and sister-in-law Roy and Jane Slagle, brother-in-law Harry (Katherine) Young, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends scattered across the country.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in St. Joseph at a later date and Alice’s remains will be interred next to her husband in the Jamison Cemetery in Clarke County, Iowa.

In place of flowers, the family requests donations to the Rolling Hills Library of St. Joseph, Missouri or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of her son, Crandall Ross, a survivor of leukemia.

Alice Slagle Barnard  1933 - 2021

Charlene Odessa (Ellis) Pape passed away peacefully the evening of Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, at the Pines in Hiawatha. 

She was born Nov.16, 1923, in Robinson, Kansas to Charles and Nettie (Marker) Ellis, the second of three children.&nbsp; She grew up in Robinson attending Robinson Elementary School and graduating from Robinson High School with the class of 1941.

Charlene married Warner Pape, Jr Dec. 26, 1940, in Washington, Kansas. After a few years spent in Alton, Illinois, working on a dairy farm, Charlene and Warner made their home in the Zion Community north of Robinson where they farmed 2,000 acres until they retired and moved to Hiawatha in1984. Warner and Charlene had three sons: Warner Ronald “Ron” Pape, III, deceased, (Julia Stonebarger) of Richmond, Texas; Jerry Pape, Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; and Alan Mark Pape, El Reno, Oklahoma. Their four grandchildren, Julie Christine “Christie” Pape Lorenz (David), Omega, OK; Warner Travis Pape (Rachel), Houston, Texas; Lori Pape Henry (Corey), Hiawatha;&nbsp;and Jodi Pape Twombly (Paul) Hiawatha, and their ten great-grandchildren, Chase and Cale Lorenz, Lily and Julianne Pape, Ashlynn, Ethan, and Karson Henry, and Hannah, Claire, and Jace Twombly, were their pride and joy.

Charlene was a busy homemaker and farm wife all those years on the farm.&nbsp; After her children graduated from school, she attended Highland Community College and received her Associates of Arts in Music in 1968, and she also took summer classes at Kansas State University. Charlene is best known for her love of music and her passion of sharing it with others.&nbsp; She gave piano and organ lessons to hundreds of kids over more than 40 years, including 2 of her granddaughters and 5 of her great-grandchildren. Charlene played the organ at Zion Methodist Church for 40 years, was in the Church Choir at both Zion and First United Methodist Church, was in the Handbell Choir, provided weekly music for nursing homes, played for numerous weddings and funerals, and accompanied many different musicians, but most special to her was sitting at the piano playing and singing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charlene was very active in many organizations. She was a member of the Bithiah Chapter #454 from 1947-1981 and in 1981, joined the Zenith Chapter #184 of the Order of Eastern Star, where she held the office of organist for 50 years, as well as other offices, and was the Grand Marshall of the Grand Chapter of Kansas in 1973-1974. Charlene was a member of PEO-HU Chapter for 38 years where she held offices of chaplain, guard, and president.&nbsp; She was also a member of Hiawatha Music Club, Saturday Club, the Hiawatha Country Club Auxiliary, several bridge clubs, the Library Club, and the United Methodist Women—Rebecca Circle, she taught Sunday School at Zion, and she volunteered with the Hiawatha Hospital Auxiliary in the hospital gift shop and at the welcome desk.

Charlene and Warner loved to entertain and travel with their friends. Charlene hosted countless meeting and parties in the house they built in Hiawatha.&nbsp; Her greatest moments, however, were hosting her family every Christmas, and all the family fun at the lake house at Grand Lake in Oklahoma, water skiing and boating. Charlene and Warner also were passionate Kansas State Wildcat fans and had season K-State football tickets for more than 60 years and attended games until only a few years ago. They traveled several times with the K-State Alumni group to football bowl games. Charlene was a golfer with a few hole-in-one shots to brag about, liked to play cards and games, and loved to spend time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Charlene was preceded in death by her devoted husband of nearly 80 years, Warner, who passed away in 2020, her oldest son, Ron, older brother, Norman Ellis, and her beloved sister Mary Geraldine “Geri” Welsh.&nbsp;

A celebration of Charlene’s eternal life is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church, Hiawatha, with Pastor Dan Norwood officiating.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha after 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday.&nbsp; The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at Church.

On June 5, 1992 he was born in Franklin, Tennessee to John and Tamara (Brooks) King.

Kasey loved to play video games and hang out with his friends.

Samuel Wayne Harold Maag  1971 - 2021

Wayne E. Nold died December 15, 2021 in St. Joseph, MO.

Wayne was born the youngest child of Leslie J. and Thelma V. Nold, October 11, 1937 in St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp; They preceded him in death, as well as nephews, Stephen Nold and Brent Cocking.

Wayne married Betty R. Fox, January 8, 1960 in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; Betty preceded him in death August 15, 2021.

Following graduation in Savannah, Missouri, Wayne enlisted and served in the United States Air Force (Air Police) 1955-1959.&nbsp; Following short terms of employment with Karnes Motor Company, Dannen Mills and Tucker Feed company, all of St. Joseph, he began a career in 1966 with Albers Feed &amp; Farm Supply in St. Joseph.&nbsp; In&nbsp; 1970 he was transferred to Wichita, Kansas where he managed an agricultural wholesale/retail business for Carnation's Feed Division until 1986.&nbsp; Later the business became known as CW Feeds, which he co-owned from 1988 - 1992.

Wayne's personal time was spent in many enjoyable and diverse areas during 36 years in Wichita.&nbsp; Restoring classic Mustangs (1964 -65 &amp; 66's) was a passion for many years along with his Happy Home Pet Care Business, driving a tour bus evenings and weekends, real estate agent with bank appraisal assignments and recreational golf -- all in his spare hours.&nbsp; Following retirement he added stained glass art along with much more golf.&nbsp; He and Betty officially retired to north Missouri in 2006, where they enjoyed their remaining years with family and friends.

His local affiliations include Cosby Blue Lodge No. 600, and Moila Temple where he is currently a member of the Ole Tymers Antique Autos Unit.

Wayne is survived by one brother L.J. Nold of St. Joseph, and sister Joyce M. Miller of rural Savannah.&nbsp; Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Church membership was transferred from Long Branch Christian Church to Ashland United Methodist Church in 2012.&nbsp; In honoring his wishes, there will be no visitation or service scheduled.&nbsp; Mr. Nold has been cremated with graveside inurnment to be held in the Savannah, Missouri Cemetery at a later date.

Gloria Ann Cundiff, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021.

She was born December 16, 1940, in Emma, Missouri to Herbert and Eunice (Borgelt) Fuehring.

Gloria was joined in marriage to Melvin Ervin Cundiff November 26, 1960. He survives of the home. Gloria graduated from Sweet Springs High School in Sweet Springs, Missouri.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for the past year. Gloria was also an active member of Timothy Lutheran Church, Blue Springs, Missouri for over 50 years where she was head of the prayer chain, Stephen minister, Bethel Bible teacher, and member of the choir. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include sons, Jason Cundiff (Christi), Joel Cundiff (Jennifer); granddaughter, Ashley Cundiff; siblings, John Fuehring (Joyce), Karen Pragman (Bill), Linda Nielson (Jim); numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

David D. Ramsay, 73, Country Club, Missouri, went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.

On April 30, 1948 he was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to William and Doris (Fuhrman) Ramsay. He went to school in Oregon, Missouri and graduated in the class of 1966. He received a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Avila College in 1988.

He married Mary Parker on December 23, 1977. She survives of the home. David attended Forest City Christian Church.

He enjoyed being in nature hunting for turkey or deer and communing with His Great God and Creator. David was an evangelist, concerned about everyone’s spiritual well-being. After growing up in a large family with very few material things, David enjoyed giving to others. Whether it be a meal, time spent helping with repairs, or with a few dollars – David enjoyed giving to those around him.

David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stuart, Danny, Mike and Bob Ramsay.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; children, Zach Ramsay (Keli), Mandy Mays (Matt), Miles Ramsay (Alysa); grandchildren, Maddox, Sailor, Everleigh, Isaac, Abbie, Malachi, Nehemiah, Anna, and Chloe; sister, Mary Ann Johnson; brothers, Dick and Fred Ramsay; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

On April 9, 1955 she was born in Savannah, Missouri to Florence McCush. She married Joseph C. Brunette on February 8, 1955. He preceded her in death.

Alvina loved word puzzles, reading magazines and the newspaper, watching game shows and the news.

She was born August 15, 1962 in Atchison, KS, daughter of Bonnie and David McDevitt. She graduated from DeKalb High School, class of 1980. Missy married Keith Canfield on March 15, 1988. Missy had previously owned Canfield's Corner in White City, KS. She loved music and singing, and she also enjoyed cooking and reminiscing on her good times. She was always witty with a good story. 

Missy was preceded in death by her parents.

Edwin "Tony" Crabtree, 90, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at his home. 

He was born June 28, 1931 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Vernon Lee and Ethel Crabtree. A graduate of Lafayette High School, Tony played clarinet in the band where he met the love of his life, Carol Malotte. Tony and Carol were married on September 30, 1951, and shared 70 wonderful years together. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Tony was a truck driver at Watson Brothers and T. G. &amp; Y., and worked for several years at Taylor Transportation Services. Tony was a gentle soul and loved spending time with his family, especially at the lake where they enjoyed fishing and camping every summer. Tony was a member of the American Legion Post #359, an avid hunter, and had a private pilot license. 

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William, Robert, and twin brother, Edward "Tiny" Crabtree. 

Survivors include: his wife, Carol June Crabtree of the home, daughter, Toni J. Price of Muncie, IN, grandson, Blair (Karlyn) Lynch, and granddaughter, Ty (Bryan) Spisak, three great-grandchildren, Clara, Elias &amp; Molly, a brother, Vernon Crabtree, and a sister,

Bobby Lee Smith Jr., 38, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

He was born December 26, 1982 in St. Joseph, son of Cecilia (Perkins) and Ronald Smith. He graduated from Elwood High School. Bobby worked as a cook in several area restaurants. He enjoyed scrapping. Bobby was always there when someone needed help and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Bobby Lee Smith Jr.  1982 - 2021

Mary Jane (“Jane”) Prohaska, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 12, 2021 in Manhattan, Kansas. 

She was a long-time resident of Hiawatha, Kansas but had been in long-term care at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas due to health issues, including chronic kidney disease.

Jane was born on June 8, 1930 in Everest, Kansas to Henry John (“Henry”)

and Pauline Cecilia (“Polly”) (Zeller) Kuckelman. Jane married John Joseph

Prohaska on November 28, 1953 in Everest, Kansas at All Saints Catholic Church. John

predeceased her on May 6, 1996. Jane was also preceded in death by her parents,

brothers Robert and Vernon Kuckelman and daughter, Linda. She is survived by four children Michael (Mary); Mark (Mai); Kathryn (Christopher) and Julie (Michael), ten grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.

Jane was a graduate of Everest High School in Everest, Kansas. After high school

she entered nurses training and became an R.N. Jane worked for over 30 years as an

R.N. starting at the Atchison, Kansas Hospital, then at the Hiawatha Community Hospital and later in her nursing career at long-term care facilities in Hiawatha, Kansas. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha.

Jane was an accomplished musician in her early years. She played the piano,

organ, clarinet and violin and had a beautiful soprano voice. Jane loved to read especially science fiction and mystery books. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed many years after her retirement as an R.N. in her gardens growing beautiful flowers and lots of tomatoes and zucchini. She designed and built not only a rock waterfall for her yard but also a brick patio and sidewalk. Jane enjoyed having pets around her and had a number of cats, dogs and canaries over the years. In her later years, Jane’s dog Pixie followed by her rescue dog, Rosie, were not only her loyal companions but also her “ears” helping her know what was going on around her when her hearing loss became profound. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Jane lived a good long life with many blessings. May she rest in peace.

Mary Jane (“Jane”) Prohaska, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 12, 2021 in Manhattan, Kansas. She was a long-time resident of Hiawatha, Kansas but had been in long-term care at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas due to health issues, including chronic kidney disease.Jane was born on June 8, 1930 in Everest, Kansas to Henry John (“Henry”)and Pauline Cecilia (“Polly”) (Zeller) Kuckelman. Jane married John JosephProhaska on November 28, 1953 in Everest, Kansas at All Saints Catholic Church. Johnpredeceased her on May 6, 1996. Jane was also preceded in death by her parents,brothers Robert and Vernon Kuckelman and daughter, Linda. She is survived by four children Michael (Mary); Mark (Mai); Kathryn (Christopher) and Julie (Michael), ten grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.Jane was a graduate of Everest High School in Everest, Kansas. After high schoolshe entered nurses training and became an R.N. Jane worked for over 30 years as anR.N. starting at the Atchison, Kansas Hospital, then at the Hiawatha Community Hospital and later in her nursing career at long-term care facilities in Hiawatha, Kansas. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha.Jane was an accomplished musician in her early years. She played the piano,organ, clarinet and violin and had a beautiful soprano voice. Jane loved to read especially science fiction and mystery books. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed many years after her retirement as an R.N. in her gardens growing beautiful flowers and lots of tomatoes and zucchini. She designed and built not only a rock waterfall for her yard but also a brick patio and sidewalk. Jane enjoyed having pets around her and had a number of cats, dogs and canaries over the years. In her later years, Jane’s dog Pixie followed by her rescue dog, Rosie, were not only her loyal companions but also her “ears” helping her know what was going on around her when her hearing loss became profound. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.Jane lived a good long life with many blessings. John L. King, 76, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021.&nbsp; 

John is preceded in death by his parents, step-father Byron Bledsoe, three sisters and two brothers.

On March 15, 1945 John was born in St. Joseph, MO to John Thomas King and Ollie Delores (Clark) King.

John left Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO before graduation to enlist in the United States Air Force in which he served during the Vietnam War in communications with several decorated units from August 7, 1962 until his Honorable Discharge on January 5, 1967.

In April of 1973 John became a Real Estate Agent/Broker with Brannon Realty and in November of 1975 opened King Realtors which later became Century 21 King Realtors.&nbsp; He became corporate broker/co-owner of ReMax Realtors in November of 1981 until August of 1983.&nbsp; John was awarded Realtor Ameritus status from the St. Joseph Regional Association of Realtors on March 6, 2014 after 40 years of service.

In September of 1983 John opened King Appraisal Group, LLC and was a full time Real Estate Appraiser from then until his passing.&nbsp; His client list has included virtually every lending institution at one time or another, however, as a Veteran he was most proud to be a Senior VA Panel Appraiser.&nbsp; King Appraisal Group was a true family business with Joyce, Brian, Leah and Jeff all having worked there for extensive amounts of time.

Our Dad would be disappointed if we didn't mention the importance of our Office Manager Mary Brooks and Appraiser Dustin Ham as they have both became family to all of us over this time and we will never be able to fully express our gratitude to them.

Family was most important to John and his work ethic was unparalleled.&nbsp; He will be greatly missed by his family and close friends for his integrity, honesty, love of family and his kindhearted nature.

On May 31, 1968 John married the Love of his Life, Joyce Kay Noble.&nbsp; They were deeply devoted to each other and blessed to travel a wonderful journey together for 53 years.

John is survived by his wife of the home; his children, Brian King (Beth Ann) of Earth, TX, Leah Sams (Richard) of Shawnee, KS and Jeffrey King of St. Joseph, MO; eight grandchildren, Jacob King (Sarah), Cooper King, Austin King (Shelby), Madison King (Christian), Mitchell King, Johnny Watts, Zack Egnew (Star) and Zoe Egnew; four great grandchildren, Vivian Davis, Kaydence King, Penelope Davis and Caiden Tomlinson.

The family will receive friends 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. Funeral service 11:00 AM Friday, December 17th at our chapel.&nbsp; Interment to follow at Dearborn Cemetery.

 Billy Robinson, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021 at a local hospital surrounded by his loving family.  

 He was born July 19, 1932 to John and Erma L. (Stanton) Robinson.

 Billy married Hellen M. McBrayer in 1954 and she preceded him in death in 1996.  He remarried Marilyn Tiller on February 14, 1999. She survives of the home. 

 Billy owned and operated Robinson Trash Service for 25 years. He also had owned several small restaurants in St. Joseph. He was a member of the Riverbend Promanaders Square Dance Club and St. Joe Squares.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; Hellen M. McBrayer; son, Thomas Robinson; one sister; and one brother.

 Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Louise (Talbot) Tiller Robinson of St. Joseph; daughters, Jacquelyn Frost, Kansas City, MO, Beth (Kelly) Oswalt, Gladstone, MO, Karen (Ronnie) Williams, St. Joseph, and Judy (Steve) Dempsey, Frankston, TX; son, Tim (Mindy) Robinson, St. Joseph; stepchildren, Daniel (Elizabeth) Tiller, St. Joseph, Alan Tiller, Gladstone, MO, Anne Tiller (John Shoaf), Independence, MO, Thomas (Shirley) Tiller, Amazonia, MO, and Lorri Tiller-Reynolds, Paragould, AR; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Billy Robinson  1932 - 2021

Geraldine M. Lawhon, 95, St. Joseph, Missouri, died Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at the home. Born in St. Joseph on June 1, 1926, she was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. She was valedictorian of the 1944 graduating class of the Convent of the Sacred Heart and graduated from Duchesne College in Omaha, Nebraska with a B.A. degree in English. Following graduation from college, she returned to St. Joseph and joined her parents and aunt in the operation of the Jerre Anne Cafeteria and Bakery, the family business founded in 1930. She succeeded her parents as the owner and president of Jerre Anne for several decades, working alongside her youngest sister, Jean Curry, until selling the business and retiring in 1995. On April 18, 1949, she married Carl A. Lawhon in St. Joseph. Mrs. Lawhon was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, and her mother and father, Marie Frances Carolus and Gerald Carolus. Mrs. Lawhon’s first love was music. She was volunteer director and accompanist for the Convent Glee Club and the Christian Brothers High School Choraliers from 1958 to 1970, when Christian Brothers High School closed and Bishop LeBlond High School became coeducational. She developed a lifelong relationship and close friendship with the members of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, the official name of the religious order that administered Christian Brothers High School and numerous other schools and universities around the world. In recognition of her service to Christian Brothers, Mrs. Lawhon was inducted as a lay affiliate of the Christian Brothers (A.F.S.C.) in 1995, an honor bestowed by the Brother Superior General of the Institute in Rome. Following her retirement from the Jerre Anne, Mrs. Lawhon continued her service with the Christian Brothers by becoming the United States representative and fundraiser for Bethlehem University in the Holy Land, a papal university administered by the Christian Brothers. She was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and was involved in the musical life of the parish for 73 years, including regular organ accompaniment for Sunday and weekday Mass, weddings and funerals. She was past president of the St. Francis Altar Society and chair of the Stewardship Committee. Mrs. Lawhon was co-founder and president of the Ladies of Charity of St. Joseph and past president of Catholic Charities of St. Joseph, Alumnae of the Sacred Heart, Children of Mary Sodality, and the Phillipine Duchesne Study Club. She and her husband Carl were members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. In addition, Mrs. Lawhon served several terms as the president of Interfaith Community Services (InterServ) and was a former president, board member, or board chair of the Performing Arts Association, St. Joseph Symphony, Allied Arts, the Arts Fund, Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, Twin Spires Museum, Ladies Union Benevolent Association (Noyes Home), Bishop LeBlond School Board, Heartland Medical Center (now Mosaic Medical Center), St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce, Buchanan County Tourism Board, and UMB Bank of St. Joseph. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jean Miljavac, St. Joseph, and Charla A. Lawhon, New York City; a son, Gregory C. Lawhon (Jina), Kansas City; five grandchildren, Adam Miljavac (Amy), Remi Gramlich (Brian), Mackenzie Beach (Noah), Carl E. Lawhon and Patrick J. Lawhon; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Anne Benitz, Charlotte Hartigan (William) and Jean Curry (R. Edward); and numerous nieces and nephews. The family offers special thanks to Cathy Isgrigg and her husband, Jim. A private Mass of Christian Burial for family members was held at St. Francis Xavier Church on December 13, 2021, followed by graveside services at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph. She developed a lifelong relationship and close friendship with the members of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, the official name of the religious order that administered Christian Brothers High School and numerous other schools and universities around the world. In recognition of her service to Christian Brothers, Mrs. Lawhon was inducted as a lay affiliate of the Christian Brothers (A.F.S.C.) in 1995, an honor bestowed by the Brother Superior General of the Institute in Rome. Following her retirement from the Jerre Anne, Mrs. Lawhon continued her service with the Christian Brothers by becoming the United States representative and fundraiser for Bethlehem University in the Holy Land, a papal university administered by the Christian Brothers. She was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and was involved in the musical life of the parish for 73 years, including regular organ accompaniment for Sunday and weekday Mass, weddings and funerals. She was past president of the St. Francis Altar Society and chair of the Stewardship Committee. Mrs. Lawhon was co-founder and president of the Ladies of Charity of St. Joseph and past president of Catholic Charities of St. Joseph, Alumnae of the Sacred Heart, Children of Mary Sodality, and the Phillipine Duchesne Study Club. She and her husband Carl were members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. In addition, Mrs. Lawhon served several terms as the president of Interfaith Community Services (InterServ) and was a former president, board member, or board chair of the Performing Arts Association, St. Joseph Symphony, Allied Arts, the Arts Fund, Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, Twin Spires Museum, Ladies Union Benevolent Association (Noyes Home), Bishop LeBlond School Board, Heartland Medical Center (now Mosaic Medical Center), St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce, Buchanan County Tourism Board, and UMB Bank of St. Joseph. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jean Miljavac, St. Joseph, and Charla A. Lawhon, New York City; a son, Gregory C. Lawhon (Jina), Kansas City; five grandchildren, Adam Miljavac (Amy), Remi Gramlich (Brian), Mackenzie Beach (Noah), Carl E. Lawhon and Patrick J. Lawhon; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Anne Benitz, Charlotte Hartigan (William) and Jean Curry (R. Edward); and numerous nieces and nephews. The family offers special thanks to Cathy Isgrigg and her husband, Jim. A private Mass of Christian Burial for family members was held at St. Francis Xavier Church on December 13, 2021, followed by graveside services at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on September 14, 1964, to Eugene and Wilma (Dowdy) Clark.

Melvin "Bud" Harold Higbe, 87, of St Joseph, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

He was born June 4, 1934 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Jessie and Clarence Higbe. Bud married Frances Kinnaird on January 27, 1962 in St. Joseph, Missouri . He served in the US Air Force and worked at Armour &amp; Co. later in the upholstery business and also as a service station cashier. Bud was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed being outdoors, especially spending time in his garden, going camping, fishing, dancing, bowling and playing cards with his family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by wife, Frances Higbe in 2010, his parents, sister, Violet Liechti and brother, Ray Higbe. 

Survivors include, daughters, Leah (Sheila) Higbe of Whalan, MN, and Dana D. Stumpff of St. Joseph, sister, Fay Yonning of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Denise Stumpff, Ruth Higbe-Harrah, Greysen Higbe-Harrah, Sara McCallson and Shannon McCallson and great-grandson, Josiah Mauleon McCallson, sister-in-laws, Sally Higbe, Raona Wade, Eileen (Larry) Meinsen, Kathy (Richard) Frederick and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose Lee King passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care, in St. Joseph, MO.&nbsp; Rose born on December 1, 1951, to Willis and Nadine (McFarland) King.&nbsp; Born in St. Joseph, Missouri, Rose was a lifelong resident.

Rose was a loving daughter.&nbsp; She had a heart of gold, and if she was your friend, you had a friend for life.&nbsp; After graduation from Lafayette High School, Rose graduated from MWSU with a degree in Elementary Education.&nbsp; She eventually earned her Master's in Education from NWMSU.&nbsp; Rose was a teacher for the SJSD for 29 years, teaching at Hyde and Lindbergh Schools.

Rose had a passion for genealogy.&nbsp; She took several trips in the pursuit of her family's story.&nbsp; She was quite successful, and each discovery was a thrill.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp; She is survived by numerous cousins and many friends.

Services, under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel, will be held 3:00 PM Monday, December 13th at the United Methodist Church in Savannah, Missouri.&nbsp; &nbsp;There will be a visitation from 2-3PM, prior to the funeral.

Leonard Charles Thompson, 70, of Denton, KS went to his heavenly home on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021. Leonard and Sylvia were married on Monday, Sept. 4, 1972 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bendena, KS. Their lives were blessed with seven children. In his own words Leonard didn’t “farm to live, he lived to farm”. He grew up farming with his father and then joined his (future) Father-in-law, Bill, at Myers Farms in 1969. He became a Hoegemeyer Seed Dealer nearly 50 years ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. He loved being outdoors, especially on an open cab tractor or anything International Red. Leonard was a devout Christian man and studier of The Word. He was always seeking Truth, and was an avid listener of Bott Radio. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Standing Stones Bible Class, and had served in Gideon’s International. Leonard and Sylvia shared a love of music. He played in several bands, the “American Revolution Band” in high school, Highland College Band and the Thompson family band with Sylvia and their four eldest children. Leonard had a love of classic cars and trucks, of which he had quite the collection. Most notable, the custom ordered 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle that was his and Sylvia’s first car. They often went on Sunday afternoon dates in the Chevelle, just to enjoy the drive. Leonard will forever remain in the heart of his wife Sylvia, children Angela (Scott) Bounds, Eric Thompson, Melissa (Jeremy) Blanton, Kevin (Katie) Thompson, Amanda (Mark) Crompton, Cortney (Michael) Stonebarger, Allison (Tyson) Rush; his beloved 14 grandchildren; brother Morris (Mary) Thompson and many other family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Soon after high school Jerry joined the U.S. Navy where he served on the Yorktown Aircraft Carrier. When he returned from the Navy, he worked construction and at several meat packaging plants. In the early 1970’s Jerry began working for Seitz, he was there 34 years as a supervisor before retiring in 2006. He attended 3 Angels SDA Church. Jerry was a Christian, he loved God and his family very much. Jerry enjoyed sports and cars, playing lots of softball, fishing, bowling, and playing games with his family.
