Ronald J. (RJ) Blakley, 77 of rural Rushville, MO passed peacefully at home on August 9, 2022 surrounded by family. Ron was born in St. Joseph, eldest son of James O. and Lila L. (Scroggins) Blakley. 

He spent the majority of his youth living on the family farm with his grandparents, Charles (CW) and Goldie (Trosper) Blakley. He attended the Buchanan County R-IV schools graduating from DeKalb High School in 1963. After graduation, he attended the University of Missouri and Northwest Missouri State University until being drafted into the Navy. Following an honorable discharge, he finished his undergraduate degree in education at Missouri Western State University, then acquired his Masters in Industrial Safety and Hygiene from Central Missouri State University.

Ron was a man with many interests and valued education. His love for the construction industry led him to his position as the Safety Director for Massman Construction Company in Kansas City. He then followed his entrepreneurial spirit to become the owner/operator of Farmers Equipment Company for several years before finally settling into his first love farming, establishing Blakley Family Farms, LLC. Throughout his journey, Ron raised registered Angus cattle, worked at Z&amp;G International in St Joseph, MO and B&amp;D Equipment in Atchison, KS selling farm machinery, taught college courses, obtained his real estate brokers license, and became a producer/investor in Lifeline Foods. Ron retired in 2016.

Ron had a passionate interest in all activities associated with the Missouri River. He served on the Missouri Levee and Drainage District Association Board of Directors for 20 years from 2001-2021. He also was a member of the Missouri-Arkansas River Basin Association (MO-ARK) board for many years. He helped shape Missouri River policy as he worked with these organizations, the US Army Corp of Engineers, the Missouri Dept of Natural Resources and other state and federal agencies to make improvements for flood control, navigation, and flood recovery. In 2009, Ron was one of only two civilians selected by the US Army Corp of Engineers to collaborate and streamline efforts to get levees repaired following flood events. Ron’s leadership made him well respected across Missouri. With his blunt and plain-spoken honesty, he could explain complicated river policy in every-day language. Ron tended to local river issues by serving on the Halls Levee Board for many years. Ron took a great deal of pride in serving as the Vice-Chair of the St. Joseph Regional Port Authority from its inception before retiring his position in 2020. Ron worked tirelessly, along with other board members, for many years to see their vision become a reality when the new port was constructed.

MWSU Center for Entrepreneurship in the Craig School of Business was started in 2014. Ron was one of the original advisory council members who identified the important need in our community. He was a strong advocate in launching the program to support small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. His passion and dedication to the effort has resulted in the success of the CFE supporting over 900 entrepreneurs. Through the years, Ron was a member of the Buchanan County R-IV School District school board, Charity Lodge, Moila Temple Legion of Honor &amp; Wrecking Crew, and the Rushville Lions Club.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, James Oliver Blakley and Lila (Scroggins) Blakley; and a brother, Donald L. Blakley

Ron is survived by his wife of 51 years, Leslie (Thompson) Blakley; two children, a son, Brian J. Blakley of Rushville, MO and a daughter, Jennifer A. (Brian) Brown of St. Joseph, Missouri; three grandsons who were his pride and joy, Tyler Brown, Bryson Brown, and Colton Blakley. Other survivors include his sister, Kathy (Larry) Whisenand and brother, Robert (Connie) Blakley both of St. Joseph, Missouri; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, whom he considered family.

Delmar Wayne Freemyer, 73, Conception Junction, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

He was born on May 12, 1949 to Elmer and Betty (Hutson) Freemyer in Maryville, Missouri. He married Lillian Nelson on November 29, 1968. She survives of the home.

He served in the Army National Guard. Delmar received a Master’s degree in Education and taught at South Nodaway High School. Along with teaching Industrial Arts, he also worked as a school counselor and a football coach. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church and the American Legion Post 102. Delmar loved spending time with his family; they mattered most to him. Delmar enjoyed following his sons and grandchildren to all of their events. He loved farming and being outdoors. He looked forward to family gatherings, which always included his ice cream.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Delmar is survived by his wife; two sons, Doug (Sara) and Bryan (Carrie); grandchildren Shelby (Gary), Kameron, Tristan, Taylar (Kellie) and Tejay; great grandchildren, Taven, Ansley, Blayke and Blayne; brother, Gene (Sue); nieces, Stacey and Michelle; so many beloved friends and family.

While at Highland Technical Center, he was awarded the Outstanding Student Award for 2020-2021 as well as a Foundation Scholarship. He was employed as a diesel mechanic for Mammoth Sports Construction LLC, Meriden, KS. John enjoyed restoring and showing tractors; fixing pick-up trucks; fishing; riding his UTV, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors with his dogs and coon hunting. He was a member of the Kansas Federation of Houndsmen. John was preceded in death by his father Jason Pantle; Grandfather Richard L Pantle; and great-grandparents Carl and Norma Buddenbohm, Albert and June Ellerman, and John and Rose Faught.

John is survived by his mother and stepfather Connie Ellerman and Travis Wright, Effingham; his step-mother Celeste Pantle, Atchison; brother Franklin Pantle and sisters Lainey and Audrey Pantle. Troy James Golden, 57, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022.

On July 8, 1965 he was born in Oakland, California to James and Ranee (Stewart) Golden.

Troy was a caring, generous, giving soul. He would help anyone in need. He was a member of AA. He was a jokester and storyteller with an unforgettable laugh. He collected Coca-Cola memorabilia and loved nature, cruising, motorcycles and cars. Troy will be remembered as the best brother and the favorite uncle.

Troy James Golden 1965 - 2022

Ruth was born February 10, 1919 in St. Joseph, MO to Harry and Cora (Bolden) Wilson, formerly of Weston, Missouri. She was the youngest child of the family of two brothers and a sister.

Her primary education began at the old Douglas School in St. Joseph, MO. She attended the Lincoln School of Elwood, KS and then graduated from Elwood High School. She worked at Swift’s and Co. for 25 years until the plant closed in 1971. At that time, she enrolled in a business course at Platt College, where she graduated and worked at the Belt National Bank, J.C. Penney’s and Sherwood Medical Company, where she retired in 1981. At a young age, she joined the First Baptist Church in Elwood, KS and at the age of 16 was baptized in the Missouri River along with several other candidates. At that time, none of the Baptist Churches had baptismal fonts and ponds, lakes or rivers were used. She was instrumental in helping organize the First Usher Board. She was selected by Rev. David Rogers and Deacon Evans to represent the Northeastern District in the state and national contest. Her love of church and dedication to being an usher won her the National Usher Queen USA at the National Baptist Convention in New Orleans, LA in 1989.

She was married to Thomas A. Mozee, Jr. June 30, 1940 by the Rev. Hamilton Brown in Elwood. They were married 64 years. Tommy and she both loved to travel. They traveled from coast to coast as Tommy sang with the Ennis Whalley Acappella Ensemble Choir.

She loved bowling and had the privilege of being in many state and national tournaments. She also enjoyed crafts, quilting and taking pictures of her many travels. 

Marie’s true love of family came from the many nieces and nephews that she and Tommy had the privilege to share their love. She was forever grateful to the McGaughy family for always including her in their gatherings.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tommy; a sister, Delia Wilson; and two brothers, Bolton and Floyd Leonard Wilson.

She is survived by five nieces, Vontella Dydell, Sharon Weston, Janice Lee, Kelly Trope, and Ann Hunter; eight nephews, Kenneth Dydell, Jimmy Dydell, Mike Dydell, Gary Dydell, Raymond Dydell, Mark Dydell, Roger Dydell, and Gilbert Gray; and extended family of great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; a foster son and nephew, Thomas Roach in Atlanta, Georgia, and one Godchild, Kizzie Marie Rowland.

Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Monday, First Baptist Church, Elwood, Kansas. Interment Ashland Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.

Philip Duane Beth, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022.

He was born November 25, 1947 in Springfield, Missouri to Duane and Esther (Hammond) Beth.

Phil married LaGena Gillespie on April 1, 1981. They later divorced.

He graduated from Rockhurst College and worked as a chemist for many years. He also dedicated 50 years of his life to his church. Phil was a lifelong learner who loved politics. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed watching Westerns and tinkering with electronics.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Monica Johnston.

He is survived by his daughters, Desiree Boatwright (Mitchell) and Amanda Surwillo (Sean); grandchildren, Gwendolyn Phelps, Justis Beth, Douglas Boatwright, Hailea Rayne Newton, Daemin Newton, Hermione Boatwright, Arkyn Surwillo; siblings, Sharon Brown, Steven Beth (Tami), Katrina Beth, and Nicole Ford; other extended family and friends.

Philip Duane Beth 1947 - 2022

Anna “Ann” Helene Nimtz, 99, of Wathena, Kansas passed away on August 8, 2022. Ann was born in Robinson, KS, on September 5, 1922, the oldest girl of Emil and Elise Dombrowe’s six children. 

A tough Kansas farm girl her whole life, she grew up helping take care of her younger sisters while constantly enduring the pestering of her brother Frank. After school, she started working outside the home at various jobs into her 20s. In 1947, she took on the role of wife in marrying Arthur Louis Nimtz, and in 1950 she began her favorite role of all as mother when their marriage was blessed with a son, Charles Richard Nimtz. The Nimtzs attended Christ Lutheran Church of Wathena and resided in Art’s childhood home, where they made a living raising row crops and cattle. Spending over 70 years in the Nimtz home, Ann was blessed to live within a few miles of her son and his family, as well as four of her siblings. Dombrowe traditions were very important to Ann; her mother and father were first generation German-Americans. Ann and her sisters were fond of speaking “low” German to each other on the phone, a likely cover to deter their English-speaking husbands and children from eavesdropping on their chit chat. 

Ann’s passion was making a home, and whereas she was always successful at her foremost priority of a tidy home, she had tremendous skill in most other areas of homemaking. Every year until well into her 90s she planted a garden, where she could nurture and grow literally anything. Most of that time, the garden spanned acres of her backyard and featured everything from apples to zinnias. She was known for her kitchen table, which served thousands of noon meals feeding farmhands and also, potlucks for birthday parties that hosted a large extended family. Quite often, her kitchen table featured popcorn, coloring books, and farm animal figurines or dominoes for her grandkids. She was also well-known for her work that is treasured today in the blankets, knick-knacks, décor, and more that she produced with her exemplary sewing, knitting, and crafting skills. Some of these items she was able to sell working at Homespun Crafts, a once gift shop in Wathena owned by her son and daughter-in-law. Ann was active in Mary Martha Circle at Christ Lutheran for many years, as well as the Cordonier School Club. She lived a life dedicated to family and church, with a willing hand always to be of service. For the past three years, Ann was blessed to live at the Willow in Wathena, making new friends until the end. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:30-31.

 Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, her son Charlie, her brother Frank Dombrowe, her sister Elsie Ruhnke, and her best friend Freda Lou Bahr. 

Survivors include: her daughter-in-law Joan Nimtz, and grandchildren J.R. Doney (Christi) of Meade, KS, Laura Benitz (Jake) and Karen Gaither (Chris), both of Wathena, KS, and Elise Keister (Justin) of Manhattan, KS. Great-grandchildren Davina Benitz, Maya Doney, Olivia Doney, Luke Benitz, Jude Gaither, Andy Benitz, Ella Doney, Cora Keister, and Charlie Gaither. Sisters Agnes Kiehnhoff, Elizabeth Bahr, both of Wathena, and Mary Howard (John) of Marysville, KS. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Anna “Ann” Helene Nimtz, 99, of Wathena, Kansas passed away on August 8, 2022. Ann was born in Robinson, KS, on September 5, 1922, the oldest girl of Emil and Elise Dombrowe’s six children. A tough Kansas farm girl her whole life, she grew up helping take care of her younger sisters while constantly enduring the pestering of her brother Frank. After school, she started working outside the home at various jobs into her 20s. In 1947, she took on the role of wife in marrying Arthur Louis Nimtz, and in 1950 she began her favorite role of all as mother when their marriage was blessed with a son, Charles Richard Nimtz. The Nimtzs attended Christ Lutheran Church of Wathena and resided in Art’s childhood home, where they made a living raising row crops and cattle. Patricia “Pat” Schellhorn Hoffelmeyer, 87 of St Joseph, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Pat was born August 24, 1934, in St Joseph, daughter to Francis and Catherine Schellhorn. She graduated from Cathedral Grade School and attended the Convent of Sacred Heart and then Platt Junior College. Pat met the love of her life, Jerry, and they married at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, September 18, 1954. Pat and Jerry’s Catholic faith was the cornerstone of their family’s life.

Pat took much pleasure in her family and enjoyed having extended family around all the time. She loved hosting all the major holidays and everyone’s anniversary or birthday party. She loved cooking for everyone and the Hoffelmeyer household was a favorite place for all her children’s friends to stop by and eat and visit. Pat was the Cathedral School’s lunch cook for many years and she also cooked for the priest in the rectory and the nuns who lived in the convent. She was a member of the Cathedral Altar Society and for many years led the roast beef dinner fundraiser with her children and family by her side. She loved to cross stitch, build puzzles and watch Notre Dame Football games. But most of all she loved having family and friends at her home. In her later years she loved watching the KC Royals, KC Chiefs games and golf. Grandma Pat was known for her no bake and Halloween Sugar Cookies.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers from Frudenthal Home Health for the excellent care they provided, and a special thanks to her granddaughter, Dr. Corinne Flaska, for all her loving care.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, son Chris, siblings, Frank Jr, Marjorie and Jim Schellhorn, Alice Clare Solberg and Joann Seufert.

Patricia Joy Terry, 92, peacefully passed from this life to her heavenly home on Tuesday morning, August 2, 2022, at her St. Joseph residence. 

She was born in Rock Port, Missouri, on November 2, 1929, the daughter of Irvin J. and Minnie M. (Linville) Walker. 

On October 15, 1949, Joy married Leroy C. Terry, and together they raised two daughters, Deborah Kay and Cheryl Lynn. Both daughters and their husbands, Raymond Heitman and R. Edward Murphy, reside in St. Joseph. Joy was preceded in death by her husband, who died on June 9, 1999, just four months prior to their 50th wedding anniversary.

At an early age, Joy moved with her family to St. Joseph where she grew up in a house with twelve brothers and sisters. As a young woman, she worked at NOMA Lights and Chase Candy Company before pursuing a career as a beautician. She later owned and operated the Charm Girl Beauty Shop at 33rd and Duncan for more than thirty years. Joy’s success as a businesswoman was built upon her dedication to many loyal customers and her tireless work ethic.

The center of Joy’s entire life was her family. She loved to spend time with her daughters and their families, and regularly used her tremendous cooking and baking talents to draw the family together. She also loved the frequent reunions with her sisters and brothers and their families. Joy enjoyed various handcrafts, and she was a passionate fan of the Chiefs and Royals.

Joy was preceded in death by her sisters, Bessie Miller, Nevilla Shadduck, Hazel Bunch, Clara Morris, Margaret Estes, Helen Whitmore, Opal Sloan, Betty Russell, and Charlotte Yocam, and by two brothers, Olin Walker and Harold Walker. One brother, Roy Walker (Irene) of St. Joseph, survives, as does one brother-in-law, Harry Russell, and her sister-in-law, Lucille Dickinson.

From the birth of her first grandchild in 1975, Joy took great delight in the role of grandmother. She is survived by six grandchildren, Jeff Heitman (Heidi), Matt Heitman, Bryan Heitman (Erica), Sarah Murphy Arnold (Kyle), Kyle Murphy (Hanna), and Melissa Murphy. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Joy was a long-time member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church and was active in her Sunday School class until her health declined in recent months. Before the death of her husband, she had been a member of the Radiant Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the staff of Vintage Gardens where Joy had lived for the past three years and to Mosaic Hospice. Their kindness and loving care for Joy were sincerely appreciated.

Sharon Ann (Worrel) Staudenmaier, 85, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, at her home in rural Troy, Kansas after a long and valiant battle with Lupus.

She was born on July 31, 1937, in Atchison, Kansas to Euie and Ruth Anna (Tate) Worrel. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1955.

On April 3, 1956, she married the love of her life, Joseph Staudenmaier at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atchison. Sharon loved being a homemaker, mother, and grandma. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her family across the United States. She took great pride in hosting family dinners for large and small crowds. She loved to cook and was well known for her Dixie Biscuits and desserts.

She was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Troy for 67 years. She was involved in the Happy Time Homemakers where she volunteered and made many life-long friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Joseph Staudenmaier, her parents, stepfather (Robert Derr), and daughter-in-law, Therese Staudenmaier.

She is survived by her son, Daniel Staudenmaier of Wathena, KS, and 3 daughters, Elaine (Tom) Halladay of Cedarburg, WI, Shelly (Gregg) Wilson of The Woodlands, TX and Laura (Walter) Koons of Manson, IA. Sharon is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Heidi Staudenmaier; Chandler, Austin (Amanda) and Jairus (Anne) Halladay; Nathan (Ali) and Christopher (Lauren) Wilson, Hilary (Patrick) Gorman, Rachel (Sean) Nicholson; Andrew (Wendy) Mills, Kathy Gallegos, and Jacob Koons. She adored her great grandchildren, Archie Halladay; Luka Gallegos-Snell; Luke, Madeleine, Kolbe and Blaise Gorman, Nora Wilson, John, and Harper Nicholson, and was excited for the upcoming birth of Jett Wilson. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Rygaard, sister-in-law, Thelma Hewins and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

He was born on July 23, 1973 to Larry and Phyllis Cole in St. Joseph, Missouri. Scott married Leasa Etter on December 22, 2006.

Scott was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Wind Therapy bike group. He enjoyed riding, speed skating, RC cars with his nephew Nick and son Seth, and deer hunting with his father and son.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lucille and Elbert Godsey, Leamer Cole, and Flossy Kelso; grandchildren, Liam, Axel and Isaac Cole; Mother-in-Law, Dixie Cooper; and brother from another mother, Chris Root.

Art was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on July 18, 1943, to Earnest and Mildred McKinley. He married Gloria Lee on July 18, 1977. They shared 43 years of marriage until Gloria’s passing in 2022. To this union were two sons Richard and Ernest. Art served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1984.

Ashley passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 in her home. Her transition was guided by Mosaic Life Care Hospice.

Ashley was born February 2, 1985, daughter of Sandra and Mark K. Crabill and John M. Duncan.

Ashley loved horses and being with friends and family. Everyone that met her fell in love with her bright eyes and beautiful smile. Her spunky and sometimes stubborn attitude made it a joy just to be around her. Ashley attended United Cerebral Palsy preschool and then attended Helen Davis State School, where she was prom queen and graduated in 2006.

Preceded in death by her grandmother, Dianne Long; and grandfather, Johnnie Duncan.

Survived by her parents, Sandra and Mark K. Crabill; sisters, Melissa Bratton (Scott) and Michelle Toelle (Tony); nieces, Keely Peterson, Kylee Peterson (Charlie), and Olivia Bratton; numerous aunts and uncles.

He was born on May 26, 1992 to Ronnie Davis, Sr. and Goldie Lake in St. Joseph, Missouri.

David enjoyed everything outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and helped out on his family’s farm. He was also an advocate for organ donation after his daughter received a liver transplant.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary June Fickle, Dewey Fickle and Carolyn Flores.

He is survived by his parents; siblings Ronnie Jr. of St. Joseph, Renessa and Josh Grider of Junction City, and Colton Davis of St. Joseph; children Sophia, Aiden, Sandra, Ayda, Ashur Davis and Selene Rogers of St. Joseph; Tayla Jones; Hailee Wilson; grandpa, Joseph J. Dorothy graduated from Benton High School in 1948. She started working for Armor &amp; Company in August of 1951 in the employment/insurance office for 32 years. The last 20 years, she was a secretary in the manager’s office. She was a member of Fellowship Bible Church.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by longtime friend, Clara Lile; second cousin Sandra Johnson of Lehigh, Iowa.

It is with great sadness that the family shares Ronald “Ron” Edwin Gove, 87 of St. Joseph, MO, passed away on July 30, 2022.

Ron was born on August 19, 1934, to Harold and Jessie Gove in Mountain Lake, MN. After graduating from Mountain Lake High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. Upon completing his service, he attended Mankato State College where he met his wife, Audrey.

Ron and Audrey (Baumann) were wed on August 15, 1960, in Le Sueur, MN. They were blessed to enjoy 61 years of marriage together. They made their home in New Ulm, MN, Bloomington, MN, Springfield, MO, and St. Joseph, MO. Audrey survives of the home. 

He is also survived by three children and 7 grandchildren. Ricky (wife Cindy, children Phillip, Darren, Cory of St. Joseph, MO), Randy (wife Tasha, children Jasper, Ting, of Taipei, Taiwan), and Amy Ellington (husband Jeffrey, children Erin, Connor of Kansas City, MO). Ron had three siblings Stanley Gove of MN (deceased), Allan Gove of CA, and Sharon Bednar of MN.

Ron enjoyed a long career of 53 years as a Shaklee Distributor. Ron played baseball in high school and pitched fastpitch softball for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, attending sporting events, and watching his Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He was a member of Silver &amp; Gold Club of Northwest Missouri. Ron never met a stranger and always had a joke for everyone. He was a lifelong Methodist, attending Wesley United Methodist in St. Joseph, MO and Kings Way United Methodist in Springfield, MO.

n April 24, 1950 she was born in Cambodia to Phan Ngoc Chau and Nguyen Thi Hao.

Khuong enjoyed reading, taking walks and spending time at the beach. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and two brothers.

Khuong Xuan Phan, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away day, Sunday, July 31, 2022. On April 24, 1950 she was born in Cambodia to Phan Ngoc Chau and Nguyen Thi Hao. Khuong enjoyed reading, taking walks and spending time at the beach. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and two brothers. Landon Carter Ochoa Lewis, 14, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022, along with his brother-in-law, Alex Brown.

He was born on October 10, 2007 to Pablo Ochoa and Carie Lewis in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He was a student at Mid-Buchanan where he was very involved in sports and music. Landon enjoyed swimming, band, football, music and annoying all of his family.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Linda Lewis.

He is survived by his parents, Carie Lewis (Matt Davis) and Pablo Ochoa (Maria); siblings, Alexis Lewis, Corey Lewis, Dangelo Lewis (Chyenne) and John Lewis; grandparents, Edward Lewis (Cheryl), Michael Davis and Brenda Davis; aunt, Kelly Dobosz (Jim); cousins Logan Dobosz, Maci Dobosz and Faith Williams; and his dog, Cooper; numerous extended family and friends.
