Leota Frances (Pollard) Simpson, 92, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 22, 2022.

She was born to Henry “PeeWee” and Frances (Arnold) Pollard in Coffey, Missouri on September 24, 1929. She graduated from Pickett High School. She worked at The Dairyette, which her parents owned and operated. Leota married Glen Wayne Simpson on April 9, 1949. He preceded her in death on March 31, 2009 after almost 60 years of marriage.

She was a member of Grace Evangelical Church where she faithfully served Christ and she was able to visit the Holy Land with them. She was known for baking dozens of cookies and treats for the church. Leota enjoyed embroidery, ceramics, music and dancing, cake decorating and spending time with her beloved family. She always said, “the more the merrier,” and lovingly cooked for all that came to her home. She was also a regular donor to ASPCA.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two sisters, Beverly Sprague and Patsy Butcher.

Leota is survived by children, Rodney Welsch (Marilyn), Gregory Simpson, Thomas Simpson (Sharon) and Clint Simpson (Leatha); grandchildren Scott Welsch, Kristie Arthur, Chad Simpson, Jon Jeu, Vince Simpson, Marisa Mosely, Ben Welsch, Melanie Wages and Chris Simpson, Adam Kisler, Stephanie Thurman, Leah Holland and Lynsey Oberg; 25 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Hilda Bell, 89, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

Hilda was born in Zuckmantel, Siebenburgen, a German colony located in the Transylvanian Alps of Romania, to Michael &amp; Regina (Haydl) Mueller.

During the 2nd World War, she and her family fled their homeland from the invading Russian army. They eventually settled in Austria.

Hilda studied nursing in Stuttgart, Germany, and after graduating worked as an RN in Glarus, Switzerland and briefly in Heidelburg, Germany, where she met her future husband, Francis L. Bell.

She and Frank were married in Zürich Switzerland on March 17, 1962. Later that year the couple traveled to the United States, where she gave birth to their only child, Elisabeth, in Covington Kentucky.

Hilda and her family lived for a short time in Kentucky, Ohio &amp; Alabama, and then for many years in Pennsylvania. In 1998, the couple moved to St Joseph, Missouri, following their daughter and her family.

Hilda was a member of Brookdale Presbyterian Church, and actively involved in the Childrens Ministry area, babysitting the wee ones. She loved babies! She was an avid gardener and a member of the St Joseph Herb Club serving in various offices of that organization over the years. She loved animals, especially dogs! She also loved sewing, painting, crafting and classical music. Within the last year, she learned to fish! She really enjoyed that too! Most of all she adored her 4 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter and loved spending time with them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bell, Father and Mother Michael &amp; Regina Mueller, Brother Mike Jr., Sister Regina Dietrich, Brother-in-law Steve Dietrich, Sister-in-law Martha Bell Stukenborg, and Mother-in-law Grace Brewer Bell.

She is survived by her daughter Beth (Ron) Bachman, of St Joseph, Grandchildren John (Brianna) Bachman, Shawnee, KS; Jeff (Emily) Bachman, KC, MO; Brett Bachman, KC, MO; Gwen Bachman, Manhattan, KS; and Great Granddaughter, Marnie, Shawnee, KS

He was born October 24, 1961 in Sebastopol, California.

John married Dawn McReynold. She preceded him in death in 2017. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. John was manager of the Home Depot in St. Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and son, Timothy John Wood.

Dan Moyer, 56, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 in Tampa, Florida.

On October 4, 1965 he was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to David Joseph and Delores Patricia (Valencia) Moyer.

He married Dru Rai on April 14, 2019. She survives of the home. While living in St. Joseph, Dan served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity and the Open Door Food Kitchen, where he lead efforts to raise capital for their new location. He was also a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 5067. Dan was a member of Y-Fry Club and always enjoyed attending the reunions. Some will remember Dan from his time as the executive chef of the Benton Club or as the owner of La Crucita Mexican Restaurant on Mitchell Avenue. Dan enjoyed music, but food was his true passion in life. He had been passionate about feeding the homeless since his time in New York City, where he worked at the Waldorf Astoria.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David Moyer.

He is survived by his wife; nephew, David Joseph Moyer; and Dru’s grandchildren, Ariana, Carter and Atlas; extended family and many friends.

Dan Moyer 1965 - 2022

Delores Dean Daly Neidinger, age 93, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2022, in her apartment at Country Squire, starting and ending her life in St. Joseph.

Delores was born September 28, 1928, and grew up on a small farm in South End, graduating from Benton High School in 1946. After studying at St. Joseph Junior College (now Missouri Western), she became a bookkeeper, working at the News Press and Wire Rope companies.

On July 12, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Delores married the love of her life, St. Joseph native, Charles R. Neidinger. She and Chuck moved to Topeka where they had two sons, Richard and Robert. The family moved to St. Louis in 1961 where Delores raised the boys and Chuck worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. When the boys were older, Delores returned to bookkeeping for Target. In 1975, the family moved to Hannibal where Delores enjoyed golfing regularly. After retirement in 1986, Delores and Chuck returned to St. Joseph where they attended St. Paul Lutheran Church. Delores was active in Welcome Wagon of St. Joseph, enjoying the mission and the card playing group!

After Chuck died in 2010, Delores moved to Country Squire where she appreciated all the friends and caregivers over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Chuck; sister Eunice Mae Daly and brother Leslie Daly.

Delores is survived by her sons Richard “Rich” and Robert “Bob”. Rich and Barb, of Davidson, North Carolina, have one child, Dana Neidmann (Mat). Bob and Cindy, of St. Joseph, have sons David (Sara) and Mikel (Heather). Delores has three great-grandchildren Clay, Hazel, and Mason, children of Mikel, also in St. Joseph.

He was born July 18, 1942 in Kansas City, Kansas to Bud and Janet (Doan) Fischer.

Louis married Sondra Jean Smith in 1960. She preceded him in death on April 3, 1993.

ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI -&nbsp; Bob (William R.) Lafferty, 87, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Mosaic Life Care.

Bob was born in Warren, Pa., to Dr. William A. and Rosina Lafferty, graduated Horace Mann High School in Maryville, Mo., spent four years in the Navy as a photographer and newspaper editor, and attended Northwest Missouri State University where he was editor of the Northwest Missourian and helped start the first campus radio station.

Bob spent 20 years in radio and television on the east coast and Midwest as an announcer and chief engineer. His interest in computers, which began in 1984 with a Commodore 64, led to a career that included computer instruction at Missouri Western State University Continuing Education and employment as a computer technician, trainer and network installer with Professional Computer Associates in St. Joseph.

Bob married Patricia Paxton-George on January 1, 1981, in Maryville, Mo. She survives of the home. He was preceded by his parents, two sisters, Dorothy and Carol Lafferty, a son Scott Lafferty and a granddaughter Coli Lafferty.

Additional survivors include daughters Nicole Lafferty, Edwardsville, Ks., Natascha George (Doug Cornelius) of West Newton, Massachusetts.

Grandchildren - Tifani Williamson, Stevi Scott, Caleb Cornelius and Caroline Cornelius; 4 great-grandchildren, and a niece Andrea Lafferty.

Bob’s wishes were to be cremated with a private inurnment at a later date.

Helen F. (Theas) Hill, 73, Savannah, Missouri, went peacefully home on Friday, July 15, 2022 to our Lord and Savior.

She was born to Arnold and Hazel (Kaufman) Theas in Craig, Missouri on September 13, 1948. They moved to the family farm in Rosendale, Missouri in 1960, when she was in the 7th grade. She graduated from North Andrew High School in 1966.

In 1971, Helen married Gary D. Hill, and they moved to Savannah in 1977. They were blessed with 51 years as husband and wife. He survives of the home.

Additional survivors include son, Tony (Mel) Hill, Rosendale, MO; daughter, Amy (Dwight) Foley, Savannah, MO; brothers, Doyle (Sharon) Theas, Fillmore, MO, Charlie Theas, Arkansas City, KS, and CR Theas, Arkoe, MO; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Theas; father, Arnold Theas; and mother, Hazel Theas.

Eileen L. Harris, 100, St. Joseph, Missouri, went to be with her Lord and S

avior Wednesday, July 13, 2022. She was born on September 15, 1921 to Charles and Lydia (Hoffman) Phelan in Lohman, Missouri. Eileen married Carroll Harris on July 28, 1983. He survives of the home.

Eileen was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for many years, up to her 90s. She graduated from Missouri Western State College with a Bachelor’s in Education. She finished her teaching career at Hosea Elementary in the Second-Grade classroom after teaching for over 40 years. Eileen enjoyed planting flowers and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lloyd Phelan.

She is survived by her husband, Carroll; children Sherry Crigger (Donald, David Hentges (Stephanie); step children, Kathy Hopper and Miles Harris; grandchildren, Mindy Gregory (John), Joshua Crigger (Liz), Justin Hentges (Kristen), Shelby Post (Jim); step grandchildren, Jason and Caleb Hopper and Kimberly Chilton; great grandchildren, Morgan Knadler (Kyle), Jackson Gregory, Jonas Crigger, Jacob Crigger, Maya Crigger, Brynlee Hentges, David Hentges, Abrahm Hentges, Carter Post and Logan Post; step great grandchildren, Vincent, Joel, Skyler and Jasper Chilton, and Alexandra and Leon Hopper; great great grandchildren, Henry Knadler and Jack Knadler.

Allen married Eva Kay “Katie” Howe on March 7, 2011. She survives of the home.

Tim Schiesl, 51, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 10, 2022.

On February 10, 1971 he was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Lawrence and Janet (Burrowes) Schiesl.

Tim graduated from LeBlond High School in 1989, Missouri Western State University in 1993, and from Northwest Missouri State University with his Masters in Education Administration. He was a language arts teacher for over 20 years at Truman Middle School. Tim spent many years working with people with special needs. He was a Catholic, an Eagle Scout and member of the Tribe of Mic-o-Say. He was a member of the Missouri Teachers Association.

Tim was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Patrick Schiesl.

He is survived by his mother, of the home; sister, Sue Hodson (Brad) of Carl Junction, Missouri; brothers, Michael of St. Joseph and Matt Schiesl (Susan) of Kansas City, Missouri; four nieces; and four nephews.

Stanley Robin Rice, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022.

He was born May 24, 1951 in St. Joseph to Pete and Rachel (Abels) Rice. Stanley married Rose Ann Poland on September 14, 1973.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After the military, he worked in food production for nearly 30 years, retiring from Sara Lee. Stanley enjoyed fishing and camping. He and Rose especially enjoyed trips to Colorado and southern Missouri. He also was a die-hard Chiefs fan who loved watching their games. A man of few words, Stanley was also known as a big teddy bear.

He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Rose; and his parents.

He is survived by his children, Derek Rice, and Kasey Rice (Lucas Pace); grandchildren, Dylan, Zanaya, Brody, Lilly, Aliyah, Conner and Dodge; sister, Cindy Felix; nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Beverly Jean Gaddis,66, of Effingham, Kansas died July 9, 2022, at Mosaic Life Center in St. Joseph, Mo. Beverly was born on August 22, 1955 in Melvern, KS, daughter of Jess and Ileta (Hadway) Kuykendall, the 5th of six children. She attended Effingham Community Schools. She had several jobs, the most special one was working for her parents in the café. The final job was at Atchison Senior Village for twenty-one years before her retirement in 2020. Beverly was married to her loving husband, Dale Gaddis, on May 1st, 1975. Beverly enjoyed shopping for pretty things to decorate the halls for the residents for all the seasons. She enjoyed the outdoors and was always ready for Spring to watch her perennials come up, start working in the yard, and watched and fed the birds. She enjoyed visiting with family, neighbors, and friends. Some of her greatest memories include her and Dale’s first flight together to New Zealand, and getting to be with both their daughters for their first Mother’s Day. Beverly is survived by her husband; two daughters Dawn Bryson and Dana Preston; five grandchildren; two sisters Leona Steuart and Diana Gearhart. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Leon Kenworthy and Keith Kuykendall, and one sister, Verna Jones.

Retiring in the 1990’s. She was married to Albert H. Hall in 1950 and they were later divorced and was married to Charles G. Siebenmorgan who preceded her in death in 1977. Survivors include two daughters Euletta Spatz, Pensacola, FL and Gail A. Pantle, Atchison, KS, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, three brothers Eugene, Donald, and Alfred Bonwell, and one grandson Gary Banker also preceded her in death.

On May 22, 1952 she was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Henry and Elsie (Groce) Currier.

Karen loved being with her family playing cards, BINGO, playing the penny slots and doing crafts. She was a snowbird who loved going to the beaches in TX with her husband and friends. Karen loved BIG and was an easy person to love. She was an avid Diet Dew drinker and that earned her the nickname DewDew by several family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward (Frog) Currier and sister, Linda Andrews.

She is survived by husband, Gary Baldwin; children, Shannon (Gary) Kretzer, Amy Gaddie, Scott Hamm, stepchildren, Greg (Cathy) Baldwin, Grant Baldwin; brother, John Currier; sister-in-law, Kay Currier; 9 grandchildren, beloved nieces and several extended family and friends.

Teresa Jane Portenier (Avey) 1954 - 2022

Jeremy Allan Grieshaber, 46, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

He was born February 2, 1976 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Mark Grieshaber and Betsy Hoffman.

Jeremy enjoyed practicing martial arts and working out. Most of all, he had the biggest heart in the world.

He was preceded in death by brothers Jason McCoy and David Wright; uncle Keith Hoffman.

He is survived by his mother, Betsy; father Mark (Sondra); siblings Chad (Lori), Mark (Christina), Tony, Trenity and James; nephew Landyn; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Daniel O. Johnson, November 8, 1941 (80) went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 6, 2022, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Iowa. He and his family lived most of their lives in the Minneapolis area and he had careers in banking, home building and real estate. Dan lived in St. Joseph for the last 15 years with his wife Phyllis.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years and his daughters, Jennifer (Shannon) Kusilek and Julie Johnson (Greg Ely). Grandsons include Brandon (Grace) Kusilek and their children Jessa and Clara; Ryan Kusilek, and Jason (Julie) Kusilek. He is also survived by his brother John (Sandra) and many nieces and nephews.

Services to be held at Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory Saturday, July 16 at 1:00 P.M. Family will gather with friends at 12:00 Noon.
