Carl Edner Rudolph, 90, Savannah, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

He was born January 3, 1933 on a farm north of Amazonia, Missouri to Carl and Grace Rudolph.

After attending Liggett and Brand elementary schools, he graduated from Savannah, Missouri, High School.

Edner served with the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1951-1955, primarily in the Philippines. He served as a lineman and electrician for Northwest Missouri Electric Cooperative, retiring after 35 years as an engineer.

Edner married his best friend, Bonnie Ruth Goforth, in 1981. They spent 34 happy years together, working hard, traveling and visiting friends and family, especially in Switzerland.

He was a member of the Saint Joseph Swiss Lodge and an active member of American Legion Post #287 since 1959. He also was a member of the New World Swiss Club in Monroe, Wisconsin. He belonged to the Savannah Methodist and Savannah First Christian Churches.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Bonnie.

Survivors include sister, L. Jean Weber; nieces, Lynn Liechti, Lori Hoefling, LeAnn Pogue (Steve), Lisa Leeson (Paul), and Linda Poppa (Robert).

Leonard N. Filippi, 79, passed away on Friday, June 30, at home. Leonard was born on August 5, 1943, in Seattle, Washington, the son of Hugo J. and Hulda Filippi. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. &nbsp;

On April 8, 1967, he married Ellen Miller at the Jarblo Methodist Church in Jarblo, Ks. He is survived by Ellen, daughter Annette Filippi (Jeff Jackson) Platte City, Mo., son Brett Filippi in Leavenworth, Ks. &amp; brother Bruce (Jeanette) Filippi in Berrington, Ks. Leonard has 3 nephews, 3 nieces, 3 great nephews, 3 great nieces, 1 great great niece &amp; 1 great great nephew.

Leonard accompanied his Army service parents on their tours to Yokohoma, Japan; Ft Dix, N.J.; Frankfurt, Germany; Ft Riley, Ks, &amp; Ft Leavenworth, Ks. He graduated from Lansing Rural High School in 1961.

He began his career with Watson Wilson Transportation before entering the Army in 1964. He was assigned to 5th Missile Batallion a guest of the Navy at Naval Air Station, Olathe, Ks. While assigned to the NAS, he also worked part time for Hall Truck Line in Olathe.

After leaving the Service in 1967 and marrying Ellen, they set up temporary housekeeping in Kansas City, Ks., until moving back to Lansing, Ks. &nbsp;His career in Transportation led him to work for Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, Desoto, Ks.; Marley Cooling Tower Co., Olathe, Ks.; Western Auto Supply Co., Kansas City, Mo.; Dairy Farmers of America, Inc., Kansas City, Mo.; and Organized Living, Lenexa, Ks., where he &nbsp;took early retirement. He voluntered in the Leavenworth School System &nbsp;at Muncie Elementary &amp; Henry Leavenworth Elementary. He later volunteered at the office of Dr. Peter Cristiano in Lansing.

At Leonard's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. &nbsp; Arrangements have been entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel.

Susan Kay Hunt 60 of St Joseph Missouri formerly of Plattsburg died Saturday July 1, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care in St Joseph MO. Born on Aug 7, 1962, is St Joseph Mo to Raymond E. and Erma L. (Hisel) Hunt. Susan was a graduate of Plattsburg High School class of 1980; she also received her associate degree. 

Susan worked for many years in Banking, clerical and accounts receivable. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Plattsburg. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sister Carol Hunt and nephew Jarod Neff. &nbsp;

Eva Mae Miller, age 89 years, of Craig, Missouri, passed away at Tiffany Heights on Friday, June 30, 2023 with her loving husband Jackie at her side.

Eva Mae was born May 1, 1934 on a farm near Fairfax to Marlin B. and Ermil Evelyn (Alkire) Smith.

She attended grade school and high school at Bellevue Community school north of Mound City. She graduated from Bellevue in 1952 and then attended business college in St. Joseph, Missouri. Eva Mae then returned to Mound City and worked in the business office for Ideker car dealership.

On April 5, 1953 Eva Mae married Jackie Lee Miller at Peculiar, Missouri. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this spring.&nbsp;

Eva Mae and Jackie made their home on Jackie's grandparents's farm north and east of Craig. They farmed and raised registered Black Angus cattle all their lives.&nbsp;

They are proud parents of one son, Kenneth Roy, who has been farming and in the Angus business with them all his life.

Eva Mae was a member of the former Pleasant View Presbyterian church. She was known for her wonderful family dinners. She hosted Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and many in between. Delicious food, and well known for her Christmas duck dinners! She had many special recipes, especially her chocolate angel food cake, carrot cookies, peach pie and Christmas fruit cake. Her potato salad was the absolute best!

She assisted Jackie on the farm, gardened, was a 'go-for' and traveled to Canada and other ranches as they built their Angus herd.&nbsp;

They enjoyed going to the Nebraska State Fair with her brother, Roger, and his wife Barb, spending many occasions with them going to Joe Tess' in Omaha and various other, especially good, places to eat.&nbsp;

Eva Mae and Jackie traveled many places, especially enjoying Branson, Missouri. Eva Mae was of a quick wit and was especially good at reading between the lines in all situations.

Eva Mae's nieces and nephews said she always asked them what they had been doing and learning since they had been to her house.&nbsp;

Eva Mae was an avid reader and she kept daily journals that spanned many decades.&nbsp;

She was so proud of and enjoyed her two grandsons, Keith and Kurt. They lived just a short distance away and spent a lot of time together as they grew up.

Preceding her in death was her older brother, Leon; her parents, Marlin and Ermil Smith; and a great grandson, Clint Wilmes.

Survivors include her husband, Jackie; her son, Kenny and his wife Mary; her grandsons, Keith and wife Jennifer and Kurt and wife Tammy; brothers, Roger and his wife Barb Smith of Nebraska city and Franklin and his wife Janice of Lincoln; great grandchildren, Kailey, Ty, Levi, Leah Mae, Lily Miller, and Camille Avery Aries; step grandchildren, Olivia Gosch, April Kirkendall, Safairra Slaby, and families; and nieces and nephews.

Wilbur Waller, 73, of St. Joseph, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, July 1st.&nbsp;

Wilbur was born June 24, 1950 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Howard and Mary Waller. He was the youngest of three children.&nbsp;

As Wilbur puts it, he felt like he was on top of the world in 1968. He graduated from Stewartsville High School, started college where he met his future wife, Marilyn, to whom he was married to for 46 years; and he started his 47-year career at American Electric.

Wilbur has lived in St. Joseph for over 35 years, was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School Class.&nbsp;

Wilbur is often described as being sweet, tenderhearted and caring. He enjoyed helping others any chance he could. Wilbur liked the simpler things in life as he enjoyed a good cup of coffee, reading, meeting with his friends, telling bad Dad Jokes, watching NASCAR races, and most importantly, studying the Bible.

Wilbur’s favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:12.He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Wilbur was a devoted husband, father and a devout Christian. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marilyn.

He is survived by his daughter Tonya and husband Terrence. He has two sisters Carole Parson, and Barbara Delany (Gerald), brother-in-law Neil Coufal; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, we can’t forget his cat Tux.&nbsp;

Visitation will be 11:00-12:00 Wednesday, July 5th at Green Valley Baptist Church, St. Joseph. Funeral service will immediately follow visitation.&nbsp;

A graduate of Northeast High School, Cecil attended U.M.K.C., married in 1963, and two children were born of that union. He worked as a branch manager for Household Finance in Dubuque, IA and moved the family back to South Kansas City in 1969. He then worked for Swingster Apparel, and Koch/Multivac, and completed his bachelors degree from Friends University, then completed his M.B.A. at Baker University in 1993. Cecil then took a brief engagement with AmerisourceBergen before retiring in Smithville, MO.&nbsp;

He played guitar in his youth, was an Eagle Scout and member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Cecil loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, managing his farms, and watching the Chiefs. He was remarried in 1988 to Kay and enjoyed traveling and telling stories about trips with friends and family to Europe, Russia, Mexico.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind his wife, Evelyn (Kay), of Smithville, MO. Also surviving are son, Jerry (Vicki) of Sugar Grove, IL, daughter, Christine (Jeff) Carver of Grain Valley, MO, and stepson Travis (Kristen) Martinez of Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren Savannah Leiby of Great Falls, MT, Zoe Leiby, stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejune, NC, Jeffery, Jr, (Ashley), Oak Grove, MO, Michael (Heather) Carver of Independence, MO, Chaeli Carver, Grain Valley, MO; Regan Martinez at MU; and great-grandson Oliver Carver.

Gloria Jean Blakely, 85, of Hemple, MO passed away, July 2, 2023.

She was born on August 22, 1937 to Gomer Lee “Pete” and Minnie Elizabeth (Grable) Coffey in St. Joseph, MO. Jeanie grew up in Hemple, MO where she attended school.

On June 19, 1955 she was united in marriage to George Blakely. After their marriage they lived in Camden Point, Gower, and in 1984 moved to Hemple where they made their home. Her husband, George, preceded her in death on August 31, 2005.

Jeannie was a member of the Gower Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Doris Kerns and her special friend, Roy Moppin.

Jeanie is survived by three sons, Gary (Cindy) Blakely, Darren (Michelle) Blakely, Kurt (Trish) Blakely; grandchildren, Matthew, Angie (Anthony), Brian (Laura), Denise (Rob), Jeff, Jarren, Clarissa (Zach), Callen, Cooper, Chance and Ella; great-grandchildren, Landen, Valerie, Vanessa, Faith, Kaelyn, Bryant, Mazie, and Blake; several nieces and nephews, honorary grandchildren, and many friends.

Gloria Jean Blakely, 85, of Hemple, MO passed away, July 2, 2023.She was born on August 22, 1937 to Gomer Lee “Pete” and Minnie Elizabeth (Grable) Coffey in St. Joseph, MO. Jeanie grew up in Hemple, MO where she attended school.On June 19, 1955 she was united in marriage to George Blakely. After their marriage they lived in Camden Point, Gower, and in 1984 moved to Hemple where they made their home. Kelley L. Goss, 61, White City, KS, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at her home.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery on Thursday, July 6th at 10:00 a.m. Her family asks that flowers be sent to the service, or memorial contributions are suggested to The American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Kelley was born June 15, 1962, in Atchison, KS, the daughter of Richard and Connie (Weatherford) Blohm. She graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy in 1980. She then moved to Manhattan and attended what is now known as Manhattan Area Technical College to learn secretary and administrative skills. She would go on to devote 29 years of her life working for McCullough Development in Manhattan, which she loved and made many lasting friendships.

She and Timothy Goss were married and they share&nbsp;a son, Andrew, who they love more than life itself. They later separated and she lived with her partner, Mark Evans.&nbsp;

Kelley was the definition of a devoted mother. Whether there was a baseball game, Marine Corps recruit training graduation halfway across the country, or a quick lunch downtown on a Friday, she would be there for her baby. She absolutely loved being outside mowing or being in her garden planting various flowers, vegetables, and herbs to share with those she loved. During her final years, she also raised chickens with Mark and provided boxes full of eggs to which Andrew could only just smile, laugh, and brag that he had more eggs than the local grocery store! Kelley also loved spending time with her step-granddaughter, Violet. She would always have a sugar free Red Bull by her side no matter what she was doing and that was the bottom line! Kelley was incredibly proud of her family, and those that had the privilege to know her would say the exact same thing. Beautiful, caring, funny, kind, and the ability to show unconditional love are just a few of the many attributes you could describe Kelley with. She had a heart of gold and will be missed more than words can describe. Her son, Andrew asks everyone to call their mother and tell her you love her.&nbsp;

She is survived by her partner Mark Evans, White City, KS; ex-husband, Tim Goss, Troy, KS; son, Andrew Goss, Manhattan, KS; step-granddaughter, Violet Evans; father, Richard Blohm, Atchison, KS; brothers: Tim (Debbie) Blohm, Atchison, KS, Chris (Kim) Blohm, Smithville, MO; sisters: Kim (David) Hosier, Kansas City, MO, Amy (Dan) Watowa, Atchison, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Joseph David Campbell, age 47, of Atchison, Kansas, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 30, 2023, at his home.&nbsp;

A service to celebrate and remember Joe’s life will be Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as officiant. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be left to the Atchison Humane Society in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom funeral care has been entrusted.&nbsp;

Joe was born on July 6, 1975, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Clayton Campbell and Rebecca “Becky” (Wissman). He attended public schools in Atchison. He worked at a locker plant in Topeka, KS, while in high school until he began with Atchison Castings as a machinist for eighteen years until he had to step away for health reasons.&nbsp;

Joe enjoyed life and loved to fish, mainly on the Missouri River, his river name was “No Hook’em Joe”. He would spend as much time as he could riding his Harley and taking care of his own maintenance on his bike. We can’t forget to mention that he really enjoyed a cold beer. He did things his own way on his own terms but would do anything for anyone whether he knew you or not. Above all else, he loved his family and had many friends that he was very loyal too.&nbsp;

Left to cherish his memory include his mother, Becky Tinklin (Richard Norris); his brothers, James (Wendy) Campbell, Jeff (Shelley) Campbell, Jeremy (Ashley) Campbell, Jason Campbell; step-brothers, Tim and Donnie Tinklin; his girlfriend who he cared deeply for, Jenny Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and his step father, Jerry Tinklin.

Mary was born October 3, 1944 in Frontenac, KS the daughter of Earl and Sylvia (Harmon) Crabtree. She was a Registered Nurse and served mostly at St. Luke’s Hospital and Menorah Medical Center. Mary was very family oriented and loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed reading, watching tv, and baking. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Mary married Harold Culey in 1972, he survives of the home. She is also survived by two daughters, Julie and Jeff Welch, Cummings, KS, Melissa and Matt Schuetz, Liberty, MO, three brothers, Renie Rodabaugh, Dallas (Christine) Crabtree, and Jerry Crabtree, seven grandchildren, Travis Ruff, Jessica Weaver, Kayla Arnold, Kylee Arnold, Karsyn Arnold, Owen Schuetz, Wesley Schuetz, four great grandchildren, six step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents, a brother Roy Rodabaugh, and a sister-in-law Vicki Crabtree.

Joseph R. Liebel Jr., 64, of Elwood, KS passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023 at his home. He was born August 6, 1958 in Jefferson, LA, son of Violet and Joseph Liebel Sr. 

Joe married Nina Helton on December 31, 1983. He worked at City of New Orleans Sewer and Water Board for many years before moving from Louisiana nearly 20 years ago. Joe was a member of First Baptist Church in Wathena. He enjoyed coaching youth sports in Louisiana. Joe loved being outdoors, especially fishing and also enjoyed shooting pool. He would often be found helping others out and will be remembered for his crawfish boils. 

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Nina Liebel in 2021 and sister, Karen Martin. 

Survivors include his children, Wendi (Gabe) Ortega of Elwood, KS, Meghan Liebel (Jesse Conner) of St. Joseph and Joseph Liebel III (Alexis Hall) of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Madison, Tori, Tenley, Isabella Jase, Selena, Annika, Braz Hall, and Joseph Liebel IV, and great-granddaughter, Ava.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday July 10, 2023 at the Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral services and public live stream will be 6:00 PM, Monday, at the Rupp Funeral Home. Mr. Liebel will be cremated following services.

Shirley A. Sisk, 61, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away unexpectedly July 1, 2023. Shirley was born February 26, 1962, in Mason City, Iowa, to David and Sandra (Rudolph) Magee.

She had worked for over 43 years at Mosaic as a sterile processing technician as well as a neuro specialist.

She married Bryan Sisk in St. Joseph on September 10, 1988; and he survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Abigail Raffel (Jared), Allison Sisk (Corbin Adams); a grandson Theodore; her father David Magee; a brother Scott Magee (Jan), three sisters Paula Williams (Kevin), Pamela Parker (Wes), Connie Magee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She loved to feed and watch the birds and animals in her yard, and was quite the friend to her neighbors cat Short Tail. She liked to bake all sorts of breads and sweets and loved to shop.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Delores (Dee) A. Platt, 90, of St. Joseph, MO passed away on June 30, 2023, at Diversicare of St. Joseph/Advanced Care of St. Joseph, after a long hard fought battle with Alzheimers/Dementia.

Delores was born November 15, 1932, to Leo H. Hockaday and Edna (Brown) Hockaday.

Delores was proceeded in death by the love of her life Robert R. (Bob) Platt in 2009, her parents Leo and Edna Hockaday, a granddaughter Dawn Brown, a sister Connie Hartman, brothers Emory Hockaday and Bill Sells, and stepmother Mary Hockaday.

She is survived by her children, Robert F (Butch) Brown and wife, Connie, St. Croix USVI, &nbsp;Vicki L. Phillips and husband, Joe, Tarpon Springs, FL, &nbsp;Bronco R. Brown and wife, Janetta, Sparta TN, &nbsp;and Carla R. Olivarez and husband, Mark, Mission, KS

12 Grandchildren, Craig Brown, Lori Brown, Cheryl Brown, Corie Wright, Charlie Phillips, Christi Buller, Joey Phillips, B.J. Brown, Dawn Brown, Andrea Jones, Nick Olivarez and Megan Harms. &nbsp;

20 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers, Leo (Dean) Hockaday and sister in law Darla, St. Joseph, MO, Eldon Sells, St. Joseph, MO, and sister Joyce Scott, Alamo, TX.

Delores worked at many different jobs in her younger years, but her favorite job was doing hair. Delores graduated from Castor Beauty School and worked at several shops around St. Joe before eventually opening her own shop in her home – Platts Beauty Shop.

She also worked at Peachtree Door before retirement, and was a member of King Hill Baptist Church.

Delores and Bob loved to travel and would take off every chance they could. They owned and operated their own food trailer – The Lunch Bucket and traveled around to different fairs and craft shows where they found their passion for woodcrafts and started another small business – Ducks and Stuff, where they made and sold all kinds of wooden toys and decorations.

Delores loved to cook and was very good at it. She loved cooking Sunday dinners for her children and their young families, she especially loved cooking the big holiday dinners for everyone.

Christmas time was always a favorite time for Delores and she loved decorating, especially the tree, which was always decorated perfectly with each bulb and piece of tinsel being placed carefully so that there were “no empty spaces”.

There wasn’t a lot of money, but there were always gifts under the tree and Delores always made sure that everyone had a gift to open, even if it were just a friend that unexpectantly showed up with one of the kids or grandkids.

Everyone was always welcome at the Platt Family celebrations.

The Family would like to say Thank you to the Diversicare/Advanced Care Staff for taking care of our Mom thru these past 5+ years.

Also, a HUGE THANK YOU to Mosaic Hospice Care Staff, especially Hospice Nurse Jason who was with Mom these past few years taking such great care her (especially thru Covid), and helped her thru her final journey.

Words cannot express how thankful we are for all that you have done for our Mom, and us as well through all of this.

Mrs. Platt has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Internment will be held at a later date at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.

Stewartsvillle, MO.....Bonnie Jean Robinson Greene born August 21, 1928 died July 3, 2023.Bonnie was born in Phoenix, AZ and attended Phoenix Central High School graduating in 1946. 

She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson where she pledged Pi Beta Phi. While at UofA Bonnie met fellow student Ivan R. Greene and the couple married on May 28th, 1949.Bonnie completed her undergraduate degree at the UofA in 1950 and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education from Arizona State University in Phoenix. Bonnie and Ivan moved their family of three sons from Phoenix to Stewartsville, MO in 1959. Bonnie taught in the Easton and Cameron, MO schools before joining the faculty at Missouri Western State University in 1968. Bonnie retired in 1991 and was awarded Professor Emeritus status.

Bonnie was a member of the RLDS church and an active member of the Maple Grove Congregation until she moved to Tallgrass Creek retirement community in Overland Park, KS in 2009.

Bonnie is survived by her 3 sons Mark Greene, Colorado Springs, CO, Scott Greene, Nagoya, Japan and Bruce Greene, Seattle, WA. Additionally, there are 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Bonnie M. Galbraith, 79, King City, MO passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023 at a Maryville, MO care center.

She was born on April 22, 1944, in Bethany, Missouri the daughter of Alva Edward and Elizabeth Claire (Ross) Criger.

On August 2, 1975, she married Everett Galbraith in Bethany, MO. He survives of the home.

Bonnie was an avid reader and loved to crochet and quilt. She also loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ed Criger; infant sister, Patsy Criger, and stepdad, Roy Harris.

In addition to her husband, Bonnie is survived by her children, Richard (Melissa) Goucher and Kim (Jack) Cochran both of King City, MO; grandchildren, Cody (Annie), Casse, and Dakota; great grandchildren, Michael, Max, and Gabby, and her sister-in-law, Marsha Criger, Bethany, MO.

It is with fond remembrance that we celebrate the life of Velda J. Berning, who passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023, just a week after celebrating her 90th birthday. Born in Cosby, Missouri on June 23, 1933, to parents Arthur and Esther Schneider, Velda was a beloved cornerstone to her family, community, and church with an unyielding dedication to serving others.

Velda spent her childhood working on the family farm alongside her parents and siblings; Glen Schneider, Doris Sander, and Harold Schneider. It was there where she cultivated a deep-rooted love for the land and the Cosby community. Her life took a delightful turn when she married Charles Berning on February 4, 1952. Together, they continued the tradition of farming within the Cosby community, a lifestyle they cherished.

In 1985, Velda and Charles retired and moved to Bella Vista, AR due to Charles' health. Upon Charles passing, she relocated in 2014 to Kansas City, KS to live near her daughter and family in Bonner Springs, KS. Shifting her life once again in 2018, she moved to Benton House of Lenexa Assisted Living and then to Memory Care in 2022. Throughout these transitions, Velda remained steadfast in her devotion to her family and faith.

Velda is remembered as a loving mother survived by her children, Keith E. Berning (Debra) of Jenera, OH, Joylene "Joy" J. Price (Dennis) of Bonner Springs, KS, and Lynn C. Berning (Sherri) of Rochester, MN. She was a beloved grandmother to Anthony Berning, Jessica Berning-Hill (Dalton), Crystina Cole (Dan), Sondra Price, Spencer Berning, and Elise Berning, and a cherished great-grandmother to Evelyn and Eleanor Cole.

Her faith was a central component of Velda's life. A lifetime member of the Cosby Zion United Methodist Church, she later became an Associate Member of the Bella Vista First United Methodist Church and the Living Water United Methodist Church in Kansas City, KS. She is fondly remembered as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. In leadership, she served dutifully as the president of United Methodist Women at Cosby Zion United Methodist Church and was deeply involved in the Stephen Ministry Program, Hope Circle, and the Agape Shepherd Group at Bella Vista United Methodist Church.

Moreover, Velda's service to others extended beyond the church. She was a valued volunteer at the Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, AR for over 25 years and the Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS for 4 years.

Velda J. Berning will be most remembered for her faith-filled energy and her compassionate, loving nature. More than just the pillars of her long, rewarding life, these traits marked her as an extraordinary presence in the lives of those around her. As we mourn her loss, we also honor her legacy—the example she set through simple acts of kindness and the unwavering faith she demonstrated throughout her life. Her spirit will forever live in the hearts of all who knew her.

Carolyn Sue Masoner, 80 , of Edgerton, MO passed away June 30, 2023.

She was born on January 10, 1943, to Ernest O. and Sarah L. (Hoover) Lane in Lexington, MO. Carolyn went to Central High School and graduated from Manuel High both in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp;

On March 22, 1963, she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuggie” Masoner. After their marriage they lived in Edgerton where they made their home. Chuggie passed away on December 7, 2013.

Carolyn worked at Spelman Memorial Hospital in Smithville and St. Luke’s Northland Hospital for 40 years. She enjoyed gardening and canning the vegetables she grew. Carolyn loved her cats and dogs.&nbsp;

Carolyn was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and loved sharing her faith with others.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Chuggie Masoner; her son Michael Masoner; her sister Mary VonDerBruegge and her brothers Milton Lane and Pat Lane.&nbsp;

Carolyn is survived by her son Steven Masoner and wife Melissa; grandchildren Branden Masoner and wife Candice and Erika and fiancé Ethan Redding; three great-grandchildren, Alexxus, Truitt and Maggie; sister-in-law Bettie Masoner, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Dana Lynne Brooner 58, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at her home. She was born July 30, 1964 in St. Joseph, daughter of Bonnie and William "Bill" Brooner. 

She graduated from Benton High School, class of 1982. She worked at Mosaic Life Care Hospital as a Medical Coder. Dana loved going hunting, especially for turkeys, and fishing with her brother, Kevin. &nbsp;She also enjoyed singing, and she had a love for animals, especially her Westie, Molly, and her Horse, Whinney. Dana was a member of &nbsp;the Clarksdale Baptist Church. 

She is preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Bonni Brooner. 

Survivors include: parents, Bonnie and Bill Brooner of St. Joseph, brothers, Kevin Brooner of Loveland, CO and Kyle (Irene) Brooner of Easton, MO, niece and nephew, Kayla and Kord Brooner, and a great-niece, Austyn &nbsp;Brooner.

Dana has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. &nbsp;A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.

Vicki Lynn Harmon, 76, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023 at a local health care facility. She was born June 20, 1947 in Albany, MO, daughter of Mary and Harold Lewis. 

She graduated from Stanberry High School, class of 1965. She married Marvin "Dan" Harmon on May 20, 1966 in Stanberry MO. Vicki worked at the former HD Lee and later Carriage Square. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, and working puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling to Branson, and going along with Dan on his over the road trips. 

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Dean Lewis. 

Survivors include: husband, Marvin "Dan" Harmon of the home, children, Pam (Robbie) Betts, Sherry Harmon, Ricky (Roxanne) Harmon, and Terri Harmon, all of St Joseph, brother, Bobby (Joann) Lewis of Stanberry, MO, sisters, Rita Smith of St. Joseph and Mary Jean (Doug) Evans of Guilford, MO, and &nbsp;numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce Y. Brown, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 29, 1936 to Max Burdette and Bernice Pearl (Young) Kepner in Creston, Iowa.

Joyce married Ronald Fay Brown on June 15, 1956.

She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family and friends. She was a Cub and Girl Scout Leader for many years.

Joyce enjoyed owning her business “Brown’s Variety Store” and traveling with her flea market business. She worked for Eagles Wings Medical Transportation for many years. She and her husband Ronnie enjoyed traveling together while he was still living.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her siblings Harold M. Kepner, Billie G. Kepner, Robert L. Kepner, Bernice “Betty” Andeson, Margaret June Adams and many other family members.

Survivors include her children Debra B. Harris, Ronald F. Brown, Jr. (Carol), David Brown, Ronda K. Hinton (Brian), 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 5 great great-grandchildren.

Nancy L. Barber 1940 - 2023

Floyd Eugene Oswald, 89, life-long farmer of Muscotah, KS passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Floyd was born February 24, 1934, in Horton, KS the son of Oliver Henry and Alice (Wenger) Oswald. He attended ACCHS in Effingham and graduated in 1952. Floyd married Alleta Frommer on August 26, 1956, at the Coal Creek United Methodist Church. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Floyd lived a full life and made many friends along the way. He served as a sergeant in the Kansas Army National Guard’s 130th Division at Horton, Kansas from 1954 -1963. Floyd worked at LFM Foundry – now Bradken - for seven years while farming full time. He was an avid livestock and grain farmer and steward of the land. Countless hours were spent on his bulldozer putting in waterways, terraces, and ponds throughout the county as a soil conservation contractor. Floyd had a passion for Farmall tractors. He spent many hours in his garden, sharing much of his produce with senior citizens at Effingham, friends, and neighbors. Several years he enjoyed surprising the children of the neighborhood dressed as Santa Claus. For 28 years he served on the Kapioma Township Board as treasurer. He served nine years on the board of directors for Jackson Farmer’s Inc. Floyd always wanted to be a county commissioner and his wish came true when he was elected as Atchison County Commissioner in 2000. He served two consecutive 4-year terms. Floyd liked to help others and would often volunteer whenever he could. He served on various church boards and attended the Larkinburg Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Alleta, of the home; his three children, Donna Oswald of Atchison, Gregg (Terri) Oswald of Muscotah, and Ronda (Ray) DeLay of Holton; six grandchildren; Rachel (Kyle) Haught, Jackson DeLay (fiancé Jessie Chastain), Paige DeLay, Michael Oswald, Ashlea (Jonathan) Fedler, and James Oswald; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Gary Bottorff. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother and sister-in-law Roger and Vivian Oswald, and his younger sister Jessie Bottorff. Family visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, Kansas. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2023, at the Becker Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Armstrong and Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Powhattan Cemetery, Powhattan, Kansas where his parents and maternal grandparents are buried.

Floyd Eugene Oswald, 89, life-long farmer of Muscotah, KS passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Floyd was born February 24, 1934, in Horton, KS the son of Oliver Henry and Alice (Wenger) Oswald. He attended ACCHS in Effingham and graduated in 1952. Floyd married Alleta Frommer on August 26, 1956, at the Coal Creek United Methodist Church. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Floyd lived a full life and made many friends along the way. He served as a sergeant in the Kansas Army National Guard’s 130th Division at Horton, Kansas from 1954 -1963. Floyd worked at LFM Foundry – now Bradken - for seven years while farming full time. He was an avid livestock and grain farmer and steward of the land.
