Connie Lou Francis, 82, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023. She was born March 10, 1941 in Andrew County, Missouri. Real Estate was her passion in St. Joseph for 45 years and was loved by everyone.

She was preceded in death by her Mother and Stepfather, Agnes and Ernie Speaker; her Father and Stepmother, Sheldon and Marie Weaver; her Son, Jeffrey Francis; her Stepsister, Vernie Ford; and her Stepbrother, Art Ford.

Survivors include her Brother, Al Weaver (Kay) of Tampa, FL; her Twin Sister, Carole Wright of Mission Hills, CA; her Sons, Mark Francis (Terri) of St. Joseph, MO, and Scott Francis (Joan) of Kansas City, MO; her Grandchildren, Caytlin Fansher (Nick) of St. Joseph; Chandlyr Francis of St. Joseph; Maureen Porrello (Joe, Jr.) of Leawood, KS; and Ruth Francis of Los Angeles, CA; her Step-Grandchildren, Christan Brown (Matt) of Kansas City, MO; and Chad Calovich of Lawrence, KS; her Great Grandchildren, Olivia and Mila Porrello, and Lennon Fansher; her Step-Great Grandchildren, Emma, Elizabeth and Jaxson Brown, and Jonathan Calovich. Betty was a psychiatric nurse’s aide until she became a correctional officer for the state. She retired from WRDCC in 2004.

Thomasine LaDon Madget, 95, known fondly as Tomi, was born on July 14, 1928, in St. Joseph, MO, and passed away on October 14, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.&nbsp;

An individual of strong faith, Tomi never spoke ill of anyone. She was known amongst her friends for her beautiful fashion sense and collection of hats. As a hostess, she had a flair for throwing memorable gatherings. Her children and grandchildren recall countless fond moments around her table, a testament to her ability to transform simple meals into special reunions filled with love and laughter.

Tomi committed herself to make a difference in the lives of others. She served as a past president of the Chapter EE of the PEO, a member of the Runcie Club, and the St. Joseph Flower Society. Her passion for advocacy was paramount in her role as President and Founder of Self Help Hard of Hearing (SHHH) and as a pioneer of closed captioning at KQTV. Tomi's community service also found her as the Republican Committee Chairwoman, TTT Chapter F, Questers, and a member of the League of Women Voters. She was a loyal member of Francis Street United Methodist Church.

Tomi is survived by her children Robbie Gallinger (Russ), Nancy Savely-Grier (Mark), and Andrew Madget (Julie); grandchildren, Brett Gallinger (Tara), Ellen Poortinga (Marc), Matt Gallinger (Nicole), Penny Popoola (Delè), Bobby Madget (Megan), and Tom Madget (Kelley); 14 treasured great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Madget, to whom she married on February 28, 1953, until his passing in 1981. She was also predeceased by her parents, Ed and Minnie (Hall) Jager.

Terry C. Imlay, 77, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023.&nbsp;

He was born August 22, 1946 in St. Joseph to Buford and Evelyn Imlay. He graduated from Central High School and earned his MBA at Missouri Western State College.

Terry was united in marriage to Donna Marie Branaman on May 24, 1968. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2020.

He was corporate traffic manager at Hillyard Inc., where he retired after 32 years of service.

Terry was a member of the Moila Shriners Ole Tymers. He enjoyed hunting, getting to take a memorable hunting trip to Africa at age 73. He also enjoyed working on old cars, with two Model A’s and a 1934 hot rod at home.

Terry fought a long, hard battle with Parkinson’s, and a heart-felt thank you goes to his caregivers and Asera Care Hospice team.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Donna; and his parents.

Survivors include children, Lori (Mike) Ziegler; Stacey (Dan) Huben; Ashely (Richard) Mense; grandchildren, Chase, Rilan, Nathan, Delaney, Cayden and Mikaela; and good friends, Leland Daise and Tammy Poirier.

Terry C. Imlay 1946 - 2023 

Frances Marie Parisoff Bidding born, January 17, 1931 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Anna and Gustave Parisoff. She attended Cathedral Elementary School and later Immaculate Conception School, where she enjoyed elocution classes, theater and dance.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Gus and Anna Parisoff, brothers: Gus, Alex, Ottis, and Tom Parisoff, her husband Jack, infant son Kurt, mother-in-law, Blanche Torbett, and sister-in-law, Ella Brahler.

On September 25, 1946, she married Jack Warren Bidding. They had seven children. She is survived by six of them and their spouses: Jack, Carolyn Brooks (Paul), Sue White (Carl), Chuck (Cheryl), Richard (Mary) and Bob (Kathy), sister-in-law, Mary (Teddy) Parisoff, along with many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was very involved in many of the lives of her 12 surviving grandchildren: Kimberly Trueblood, Jacob White, Mindy Anaya, Jesse White, Jessica Mann, Kale Bidding, Gabriel Bidding, Logan Bidding, Ryan Bidding, Pierce Bidding, Anna Bidding and Andrew Bidding along with 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Frances loved her family and made each one feel special.

Her commitment as a military spouse took the family to Texas, Illinois and California. They returned home to St. Joseph, Missouri in December of 1961.

In 1967, Frances began working for Memorial Park Cemetery as a sales counselor. She would travel often at night all over St. Joseph and many surrounding rural areas to meet with families in their homes. She found great joy in hearing others stories and succeeded at her job because of her ability to connect with people. She continued working at Memorial Park for 25 years.

In 1974, she was widowed when her husband died suddenly. Frances loved her family and made each one feel special.She continued to provide for her children and grandchildren and never remarried. She said one husband was enough.

In her later years, she returned to her Catholic faith, attending Mass at Cathedral Parish and often participating in faith groups led by Deacon Larry Hager. She loved Father Rick. In her last few years of decline, the family appreciated the visits from the church, especially Father Steven Hansen.&nbsp;

We are thankful for the care she received for the past year at Advanced Care. Her caregivers expressed the utmost compassion. We are grateful for her roommate, Wonda Berry, who provided friendship and support to Frances and her family.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold Fales; her brother Don Lee Miller; her sister Mary Jo Mauzey; her granddaughters Anna Marie Wren and Elizabeth Elaine Neighbors; and her great-granddaughter Stormey Michelle Martin.

He was just 3 days shy of his 89th birthday.&nbsp;Francis was born on October 15, 1934, in Atchison, Kansas to Walter and Loretta Lorenz. He attended Atchison High School, graduating in 1952. He married to his lovely bride, Evelyn Ellerman, on April 21, 1957, at Nortonville Christian Church. He began service with the National Guard in 1957.&nbsp;He worked at Harry Frantz Wood Products as a cabinet maker from 1952-1972. He served as the Financial Secretary of the Local Carpenters’ Union. In 1972, he began working in Urban Renewal and Community Development through the City of Atchison, where he later became the City Building Official, retiring in 1997.&nbsp;Francis was a 50-year member of the Elks Lodge #647 where he served as a trustee and a member of the building committee. He was presented with the Elks Lifetime Achievement award in 2018.&nbsp;Francis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Evelyn, his sons Michael (Kristy) of Kansas City and Mark (Jenny) of Wichita, his grandchildren, Micha (Richard) Bazemore, Garrison (Payton) Lorenz, and Kaleigh (Tyler) Gosch, his great grandchildren, Faye, Walter and Collins and nephew Steve (Rhonda) Lorenz.&nbsp;He is proceeded in death by his parents, Walter and Loretta, his siblings, Vincent (May) and Barbara (Bill) Dykstra, and nephew Darrel Lorenz.&nbsp;&nbsp;Francis was a man who rarely sat still. I was born on June 2, 1950 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Ellen (McHenry) and Martin Thomas Delaney. I was raised a catholic in St. Patrick's Church and School all of my elementary years, and completed two years of high school at Bishop LeBlond High School, and graduated from Faucett High School in 1968I worked in secretarial and accounting positions that were "sit-down" jobs all of my working career. If you have this type of job, please do not neglect your health. Keep moving and exercise when possible, it will save you a lot of health issues in your later years.Survivors: husband, Darrell Moser of the home. Daughter, Amy Delaney-Cook that has helped me for many years. The greatest joy of my life, my Granddaughter, Payton Delaney Cook. Payton was my "medicine," a hug from her always made me feel better. She was always careful by my side and knew when to step in to help me.

Sisters: Beverly (Linden) Black, Michele (Steve) Davidson and Debi Foreman, Maureen (Greg) Miller, Brothers: Dennis (Lelanie) Delaney and Dan Delaney all of St. Joseph. I was fortunate to be raised during a time without war on our homeland; raised on a farm with strong family values; was taught how to be prepared in Girl Scouts, and how to be a well-rounded citizen in my community through the Oak Hill 4-H Club. We were raised with a strong religion, were taught how to take care of ourselves and our family; taught that you treat others the way you want to be treated; taught to be honest even if you had the opportunity to gain from another's misfortune; learned the value of family, and they were always there for you even during the bad times; taught how to respect our elders, the police, my teachers, and our magnificent military, and taught allegiance to America, the flag, and our President, no matter which party they represented. I have been so grateful for everything and lucky to have lived such a wonderful life.

There were many times I turned to God in need of help and guidance. God will bring you through fire! Psalm 66:12. I give God the glory for all the good things in my life; however, when I fell short, I have to take the blame for not always going in the right direction because I had to do it "My Way".

Patricia Ann (Pati) Taylor was born to Curtis and Ruby Garrett Brown of St. Joseph, MO on January 14, 1942. After experiencing several falls, she was reborn into the hands of God on Friday, October 13th, 2023. She was a member of the King Hill Methodist Church.Pati graduated from Benton High School, and was married to Kenny Helsel Sr. on February 14, 1959. Though their marriage ended in divorce, they were blessed with four children. &nbsp;On December 28, 1987, she married her best friend, Dennis Taylor. In their many joyous years together, they raised their children, enjoyed their grandchildren, traveled, and gambled at the boat. More recently, they cherished their long talks, doing yard work together (Pati loved flowers in the yard), and car rides with their dog.&nbsp;

In 1975, Pati graduated from Hillyard Technical College with a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Originally she worked at a hospital, but found a better fit in a doctor’s office environment as it allowed her to be closer to her patients. She worked at Thompson Clinic, then later served as Dr. Spurgat’s nurse for many years. She finished her career at the young age of 77 caring for residents at Carriage Square Nursing Home. She took great pride in teaching her co-workers. During her hospital stays in her last few months, many colleagues stopped in to tell her how much they appreciated her kindness and her wisdom through the years.

However, nothing brought her greater joy than her children. She was extremely proud of their accomplishments. Though she stood behind each of their decisions, she was never afraid to give her opinion. While they were young, she spent most of her time running from one ballfield to the next, never missing a game. It was a highlight to watch the grandkids do this, as well.

Pati is survived by her husband, Dennis Taylor, sons, Kenny Bob (Rhonda) Helsel and Jay (Michele) Helsel, and one daughter, Kim (Rod) McCan. Grandchildren: Heather Bowman, Dusty Helsel, Carlie Campbell, Rodney and Jared McCan, Audrey Hansen, Ashley Garton, Travis Helsel, Ryan, Lauren, and Jake Helsel. She had 19 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Tim Helsel.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 pm Thursday, with a Celebration of Life starting at 6:30 pm Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Rupp Funeral Home.

Lloyd Eugene Taylor 67, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 at a local health care facility. He was born August 12, 1956 in St. Joseph, son of Dorothy and Lloyd Taylor. He attended Helen Davis and Myrtle Miller Schools. He worked at Specialty Industries, where he retired after 41 years. He loved to exercise, especially riding his bike and running, and he was a junk food junkie. He was a member of the Special Olympics Track Team, and was very proud of his medals. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: siblings, Jenny McBride, Betsy Taylor, Patricia Taylor, Sally Taylor, and Charles Taylor, and his dear friend, Mary Jane Caples. Venita M. Brushwood 82, of Grant City, passed away peacefully at Orilla's Way on October 13, 2023. Venita was born on May 14, 1941 in Agency Missouri, the daughter of Pearl &amp; Forest E.R. Morgan. She graduated from Faucett High School, and attended Hillyard College and Platte College for business. Venita was a member of the Agency Methodist Church. Venita was united in Holy Matrimony to Franklin Brushwood in 1956. This union was blessed with 2 sons and 1 daughter. They divorced in 1981. Franklin proceeded her in death on August 23, 2020. Venita was proceeded in death by her infant daughter, Anita Brushwood, son, Mark Brushwood, son, Garrett Brushwood, her parents, significant other, Burt Thomas, sisters, Dorothy Kerns and Rossela Sullivan, and brother, Walter Morgan. Venita is survived by 8 grandchildren, sisters, Bonnie Murphy and Nellie Peck, several nieces and nephews, and daughters in law, Linda Brushwood and Debbie Brushwood.The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Tuesday October 17, 2023, followed by funeral services at 2:00 pm at the Rupp Funeral Home. She graduated from Benton High School class of 1979, and worked at Quaker Oats for several years, and she was a cosmetologist. She loved to cook, spending time with her grandkids, and family get-togethers. She was Catholic. Cynthia Ann York 1961 - 2023 

Frances Elizabeth Fry, 59, of Pattonsburg, MO, passed away October 13, 2023 in Kansas City. &nbsp;She was born September 1, 1964, in Kansas City, to Steve and Kay (Stennett) Creasey.

She was baptized at Dayspring Nazarene Church in Springfield. Frances graduated from Hillcrest High School in Springfield. &nbsp;She then graduated with a Bachelors in Education from Missouri State University. &nbsp;She taught special education at Niangua and Savannah School Districts.

She served as a representative of the Missouri Foster Association and served on the board of the Missouri Environment Education Board. &nbsp;Frances was a foster/adoptive parent fostering 43 children - several who continue to call her mom to this day.

Frances married Edward Fry on October 25, 1995 and he survives of the home. &nbsp;Also surviving are children Chris Lane, Michael Lane both of Springfield; Clinton Fry of Harrington, Delaware, James Fry of St. Joseph, Cordelia Hilton of Springfield; Michael Adamson of Pattonsburg; 13 grandchildren; brothers Kenneth Estes of Springrield, Steve (Junior) Creasey of Pleasant Hope; &nbsp;a niece; two nephews; several great-nieces and nephews.

She loved fishing, stock car racing, rock hunting, spending time in Black Hills, SD, Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park. &nbsp;She loved animals; raising rabbits, ducks, quail, aquarium fish, and a support miniature schnauzer dog, Inola. She had a facebook show selling paparazzi jewelry.

Memorial contributions may be made to Project Purple - A World without Pancreatic cancer.

Memorial services will be Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph, MO. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of service.

John Robert Lawrence, 72, of St. Joseph, passed away October 12, 2023. &nbsp;John was born November 11, 1950 in St. Joseph, to Robert C. and Mary A. (Harvey) Lawrence.

He received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Missouri Western State University and served as a Civil Engineer for the City of St. Joseph. &nbsp;He designed a couple of the newer fire stations and the Waterpark.

Survivors include a son Mike Lawrence; daughter Kadi Lawrence; and former wife Sharon Lawrence.

He was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church and was involved with the Coast Guard Auxillary.

Larry Richard Johnson, fondly called Richard by his brothers and sisters, passed away peacefully at his home in St. Joseph, Missouri, at the age of 83, on October 10, 2023. 

He is the second son of the late Charles and Lillian Johnson born on January 28, 1940, in St. Joseph, MO. A Benton High School graduate, who never missed school, Larry sought a degree in Business Administration at Missouri Western State University and made the Dean’s Honor Roll. After 32 years of service in aviation, Larry retired from TWA and American Airlines. He together with his wife Lousie owned and operated Stinkie Fingers Bait Shop. A veteran of the United States Army, Larry served our country during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

A true outdoorsman, he was an avid fisherman, a devoted bird-feeding fool, a fervent mushroom hunter, and a reborn conservationist. &nbsp;An arborist at heart, Larry planted way over 1,000 trees in his lifetime. He headed up “Stream Team” in a community effort to keep streamlets and creeks clean and litter-free. 

His wife, Louise Martina Johnson, his parents, and brothers, Jesse, Howard, and Charles "Dutch" Johnson preceded Larry in death.

Michael Eugene Smith 65, of Rushville, MO., passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. He was born September 24, 1958 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Della and Jasper Frakes. 

He married Wilma Post on January 1st, 1980 and she survives of the home. He worked for Buchanan County in the Road Maintenance department. Mike loved animals, fishing, camping, playing pitch, spending time with his family. He was very quick witted, and loved being around his family and friends. He was an awesome father, a great friend and a Rock we could all depend on. 

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

Stewartsville, Missouri…. Martha Joan Mallen-Howell, age 83, was born December 21, 1939, the daughter of Alvin Thomas and Vivian Chloe (Whiteley) Binstead and passed away at her home in Stewartsville on October 9, 2023.

Joan graduated from Plattsburg High School Class of 1957 and after graduation attended Platt Business School, St. Joseph. Joan and David Mallen were united in marriage 1958, to this union five children were born. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 25 years, from which she retired. Joan and Rex Howell were united in marriage in September of 1993.

She was a faithful member of Culbertson Chapel United Methodist Church in Stewartsville where she was a Youth Group Leader and was a part of the United Methodist Womens’ group. Joan was also a member of Jolley Workers’ Club, Order of Eastern Star, and Pioneer Club. Joan loved gardening, cooking, bird watching, and rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Karen Lurae Mallen.

She is survived by her husband Rex; four children Beth (Rick) Singleton, Cameron, MO, Barry (Rita) Mallen, St. Joseph, MO, Keith Mallen, Stewartsville, and Kevin (Tammy) Mallen, Savannah, MO; ten grandchildren, Gannon (James), Patrick (Jacqueline), Ray (Heather), Ashley, Audrey (Curtis),&nbsp;Charlotte (Shannon), Cierra (Brad), Marcus (Emily), Ryan (Megan) and&nbsp;Ashlyn; and ten great-grandchildren.

Herbert Dale Humphrey, 72, of Lewis and Clark Village, MO peacefully passed away on October 9, 2023. Herb was born on March 10, 1951, in Kansas City, MO to the late Thomas Arthur Humphrey Jr. and the late Laura May (Shreve) Humphrey. Herb graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City, MO with the Class of 1969.

Herb was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy (Dunlap) Humphrey. They happily married on August 19, 1971, in Kansas City, MO.

Surviving family members include daughters Jennifer Hare (James) of Kansas City, MO., Janean Phillippe (Mike) of St. Joseph, MO., and Megan Larkin (Matt) of Lewis and Clark Village, MO.; grandchildren Bryston Humphrey (of the home), Kloey Albertson, Larsyn Phillippe, Sydney Hare, Matthew Larkin, and Miles Larkin; siblings Wilma Alexander, Lloyd Humphrey (Glenace), Larry Humphrey (the late Lea), Robert Humphrey, Loren Humphrey (Diane), Helen Guffey (Bob), Ruth Allen (Gary), and Michelle Thompson (Walter).

Herb worked in Hospital Safety and Risk Management for many years at Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City, Baptist Hospital in Kansas City, and Heartland Health in St. Joseph. Herb changed career paths in the early 2000s and worked at several car dealerships in the St. Joseph area.

Herb was a long-time bowler in Kansas City and St. Joseph. He was named the 1994 St. Joseph City Tournament Champion and was placed in the St. Joseph USBC Hall of Fame in 2008. Herb had numerous 1st place tournament wins, multiple 11 in a row games, a 299 game, 2x 300 games, and an 800 series.

At Herb’s request, there will be no funeral service. He will be laid to rest with his wife in Winston, MO.

Cherryl was born on January 14, 1959, in Vallejo, CA, to her parents John and Dorothy Zeller-Lawrence and she passed away peacefully on the chilly morning of October 9, 2023, at 8:40 a.m. in Holton, KS. She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School. That’s it. Not much else to say.&nbsp;

In all seriousness, to know Cherryl was to love her. She lived a beautiful, simple life. She didn’t need the fanciest car. In fact, she loved her old Buick Regal so much that when it finally was “put to pasture,” you could find her sitting in it reminiscing about the good times they had together. She never wanted the fanciest clothes. She was happy as ever in a pair of her favorite sweatpants and a band t-shirt. All Cherryl wanted was her family, friends, a few Busch Lights and lots of laughs. Cherryl loved her music. Over her life, she went to around 150 concerts with friends. In the very end, she found peace and happiness listening to Elton John, Three Dog Night, Journey, Meatloaf, Tears for Fears, U2 and REO Speedwagon. Music always brought a smile to her face. She loved playing board games or doing puzzles with her family. Cherryl was also quite the handy woman and knew how to do everything from woodworking, drywall, remodeling, framing… no project was too big for her. Cherryl also stayed busy gardening and cooking for her family. She was an amazing baker and made some of the best breads and sweets you’d ever tasted. She also loved hosting “Pizza Mondays” for friends and family. Cherryl also owned and operated her beauty shop, Cherryl’s Shoppe, in Holton for almost 40 years. It was so much more than just a place to get a trim. It was a place where women came together to talk, laugh and support one another. Cherryl loved each and every one of her “ladies” and helping them look their very best. Rumor has it she had the best backcomb in the Midwest! Cherryl always enjoyed seeing her weekly clients and worked until she no longer could. Lastly, we asked Cherryl before she passed away what her greatest accomplishment in life was. Her response was simple, her kids.&nbsp;

In memory of Cherryl, we ask that you turn on Elton John, sit out in the sun, crack open a Busch Light and relive all the memories you had with her. We are accepting donations to buy trees for the community garden in memory of Cherryl.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Colbee Boyett, Holton, KS, and Grahamm Boyett, Alabama, two daughters, Camillia Karns, Westmoreland, KS, and Chardae Dick, Holton, KS, two brothers, Martin Lawrence, Wetmore, KS, and Johnny Lawrence, Tecumseh, KS, and nine grandchildren, Trennyn Boyett, Alden Boyett, Korbin Karns, Coralynn Karns, Reed Karns, Ruby Karns, Clara Boyett, Abby Boyett and Lydia Boyett.

Her celebration of life will be held at a later day and will be announced.

Beth Jolene (Showalter) Huffman, 58, of Helena, MO,&nbsp; passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023 at a hospice center in Kansas City, MO.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Memorial Service; 11:00 AM Friday, at the ROC Fellowship Church at 2606 Sycamore Ct, St Joseph, MO 64503.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to;the Helena Cemetery or to the Music Accents Fund.
