Donald Eugene Cox, 88, Amazonia, Missouri, passed away at home on Thursday, October 17, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Don was born in Horton, Kansas, on July 21, 1936, to Jesse Paul and Viola (Keller) Cox. He graduated from Horton High School, then went on to serve his country in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, Don worked for National Cash Register, in Saint Joseph, Missouri, for 25 years.
It was during this time, he met the love of his life, Peggy Ann LaHue. They were married on January 10, 1972.
In 1982, Don purchased a lumber mill in the hills of Arkansas, where he manufactured log homes until 2005. In 2007 he retired to Amazonia, Missouri, and spent his days working in his aronia berry fields, fishing, hunting, and golfing.
Don was raised to Master Mason in St. Joseph Lodge #78 in 1961. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Moila Shrine Temple. While in Arkansas, he joined Ashley Lodge #66, as a dual member, where he served as Master from 1997 to 2000.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Frederick Cox and Jesse Floyd Cox; and son, Darren Cox.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Peggy Cox; sons, Donald R. (Kellie) Cox and Douglas (Mary) Cox, all of Saint Joseph; brother, Gary (Sandi) Cox, of Topeka, Kansas; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Pappy"; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
The family will gather with friends 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, November 1, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
