The Friends of St. Joseph Animal Shelter is holding an emergency adoption special due to a high volume of adoptable pets.

The shelter is running a $10 adoption special, starting Friday and running through July 8.

Shelter spokesperson Melanie Barnes described it as "an emergency situation," saying there's an overflow of dogs and cats and other adoptable pets.

The shelter is closed on Sunday and Monday, but open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-5:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 1-6:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 1-4:30 p.m.

Drivers will see an increased amount of traffic as they head out to celebrate the Fourth of July.  

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is preparing for a larger number of drivers traveling through the holiday weekend. 

Seargent Shane Hux with Troop H in St. Joseph says the patrol holiday counting period will start today.

"And the holiday counting period goes all the way through Monday the 4th," Hux tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "So, like I said there will be an increase in traffic flow out there."

With the the holiday fallling on a Monday, Hux says there's a chance you could also see more drivers on the road on Tuesday as well.

"But, most people I'm assuming will have to go back to work on Tuesday, so that influx of traffic will again be, we're planning on it being on Monday," Hux says.

Fireworks will be filling the sky as drivers travel at night over the Independence Day weekend.  

Hux says the main thing to do when driving at night, is to not get distracted by the fireworks. 

"And take your eye off the road, so just pay attention, devote 100% of your attention to driving at all times, it's great for the passengers inside the vehicle to enjoy those fireworks displays," Hux explains. "But, if there is something you want to see along the side of the road make sure you do pull over and stop."

Hux says the highway patrol unfortunately sees a higher number of intoxicated drivers during the holiday.

"Fourth of July is an outdoor event, lots of barbecues and people going to the lake, and last year in 2021 the highway patrol arrested 80 intoxicated drivers during that time period, which it was a four day travel period last year as well," he says.

Hux says if you have been drinking during your celebrations, you should make sure to have a designated driver or find another way to get home.

Increased amount of drivers expected this Fourth of July weekend

St. Joseph police arrested a Lake of the Ozarks man late Thursday night after a pursuit that began in Clinton County.

Clinton County authorities requested help after the man, identified as 31-year-old Gregory Paul White, Jr., fled officers there who had pulled his pickup
over for a headlight violation.

St. Joseph police say White man entered the city limits while
driving south on US 169 around 10:30. Officers used spike strips and thought they
had disabled the pickup at Pickett and Riverside, but the driver ran into a
patrol car causing minor damage and then nearly ran over an officer before
fleeing.

Officers apprehended White in the 5200 block of Pickett
after the front tires of the truck flattened so much he was driving on the
rims. He attempted to escape on foot. Officers arrested White on a felony warrant
and a misdemeanor warrant. The pickup has been reported stolen from the Lake of
the Ozarks, according to police.

St. Joseph man injured after motorcycle accident

BUCHANAN COUNTY—Four people were injured in an accident just before 12:30p.m. Thursday in Buchanan County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Isuzu Box Truck driven by Kameron J. Turner, 26, Lee's Summit, was northbound on Interstate 29 just north of Downtown St. Joseph.&nbsp;

The truck struck the towed unit of a 2007 Cadillac Escalade driven by Adan A. Ramirez, 32,&nbsp; Grand View.

After impact, the driver of the Box Truck lost control and struck a 2017 Ford Explorer driven by Sherene Daniels, 42, Wathena, Kansas. The impact pushed the SUV into a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by Cole A. Fergus, 30, Shawnee, Kansas. The SUV overturned.

The driver of the Fusion lost control. The car began to spin and struck a 2007 Honda Civic driven by a 17-year-old girl from St. Joseph. The Box Truck continued off the road and struck a cable barrier.&nbsp;

Buchanan County EMS transported Daniels and two juveniles in the SUV to Mosaic Life Care. A private vehicle transported Turner to Mosaic.&nbsp; All drivers and passengers were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Four injured after 5-vehicle Buchanan Co. crash

CALDWELL COUNTY—A Missouri teen was injured in an accident just after 7a.m. Thursday in Caldwell County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1998 Olds Cutlass driven by a 16-year-old girl from Hamilton was southbound on Pacific Road just north of Route U three miles east of New York.

The driver lost control of the car. It traveled off the west side of the road, struck a culvert and overturned.

A private vehicle transported the teen to&nbsp; Cameron Regional Medical Center. She was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Kansas City Chiefs training camp is less than a month away, and St. Joseph is getting ready to roll out the red carpet and welcome Chiefs Kingdom to town for a 12th time.

Director of the St. Joseph Sports Commission Brett Esely says this year's training camp is the first fully normal camp since 2019, and he expects increased travel and commerce.

"I feel like there's going to be an influx of folks who are coming to town this year, so what does that mean?" Esely said. "It means increased room nights. It means increased folks in our restaurants and shopping establishments. With that, it's always good when those people can have extracurricular things to do related to camp, but elsewhere in town."

The training camp attendance record was broken in 2019 with 63,000 people attending in all.

As of now, this is the last year that the Chiefs are required to come to St. Joseph and Missouri Western for camp. Practices will begin on July 27 with the first practice open to fans on the 28th and Red Rally on the 29th. 

Esely says the three weeks of training camp always provides a unique opportunity for St. Joseph to showcase itself.

"We want to make sure we're promoting our city and things to do in our city," he said. "Also, promoting simplified things of, 'Hey, practice today. If you need more information, this is where you go,' because we will have an influx of folks that have either not been to St. Joseph that much or at all. So, it's a really good opportunity for our community."&nbsp;

Looking a bit further ahead, the NCAA <a href="https://stjosephpost.com/posts/4a11b8b7-11f7-4d11-aefa-fb89acdb82f5">Division II women's basketball Elite Eight</a> comes to Civic Arena this coming March for the fifth time ever and for the first time since 2011. Esely, who’s also the Elite Eight tournament director, says getting the arena ready to host is critical.

"These teams, some of them have been to the Elite Eight before and some of which have never been to the Elite Eight," Esely said. "They have worked hard all year to get to that point. That's what teams are working toward - to get to the Elite Eight and play for a national championship and you want to be sure that environment is lively."

Just this month, St. Joseph city council approved the purchase of new LED scorers' tables for Civic Arena, which will host the Elite Eight again in 2024 and has put in a bid to host state volleyball in 2025.

Of course in 2026, Kansas City will be a host city for the FIFA World Cup, attracting thousands of new people to the city and region. Esely says the city and Missouri Western State University could have a unique role when the World Cup rolls around.

"There's going to be a lot of communities in the sites of the games or in the surrounding communities of the sites of the games that are going to serve as hubs for countries competing in the World Cup," Esely said. "The folks from FIFA came and did a site visit at Missouri Western."

The World Cup is estimated to generate around $695 million of economic activity in the state of Missouri. The 2018 World Cup drew about 364 billion views over the nearly month-long event.

Needless to say, St. Joseph has some big things coming its way soon, and Esely says there’s always looking for more.

"We're always looking at what's next," he pointed out. "So, we're excited to host these events. But, we don't want these events to be the only events. We want to be in a regular cycle every year and to do that, we just have to do some things better than other communities do and I'm confident we'll do that."

Chiefs camp, Elite Eight, World Cup - St. Joseph ready to host fans from near and far

As fireworks fill the sky and are fired off through this Fourth of July holiday weekend, the St. Joseph Fire Department wants you to practice firework safety.&nbsp;

Assistant Fire Chief Jamey McVicker says around this time the fire department responds to many fires caused by fireworks.&nbsp;

"Luckily, in my experience, St. Joe has been very good as far as being safe with their fireworks," McVicker tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. &nbsp;

But even as safe as most people are, McVicker still has some tips on how to protect yourself from danger. &nbsp;

"Wear snug clothing to make sure your arms and legs are covered and that they're not loose to where they can catch fire," McVicker says. "We also encourage you to wear shoes and eye protection and tie your hair back, for females especially, when that hair drapes down."&nbsp;

McVicker says you should also keep your head and body from leaning over fireworks.&nbsp; &nbsp;

The St. Joseph Fire Department is urging everyone to fire off their fireworks safely, during this Fourth of July weekend. &nbsp;

"Hands and face are two of the most commonly injured parts of the body when fireworks happen," McVicker explains. "So, what we like to tell people is know a little bit of first aid beforehand, that way you can help out anybody."&nbsp;

As you purchase fireworks for the Fourth of July holiday, be sure to keep in mind the laws inside city limits. &nbsp;

McVicker says ariel projectile fireworks in St. Joseph are illegal. He says many fireworks fires he's worked on have been from aerial fireworks. &nbsp;

"Several of those were caused from a firework dropping on top of the roof and they just weren't spotted until they create quite the flame so a lot of damage is caused," McVicker says. "So, that's the number one reason we don't like aerial fireworks is cause they fall on top of a roof and nobody sees it until it's way too late."&nbsp;

McVicker adds that if there is any danger that comes from your fireworks don't be afraid to call the fire department.&nbsp;

"I would rather play it safe than have somebody's house burn so if there's any worry at all please call 9-1-1 we'll come whether it's an emergency or not an emergency, we'll come out either way," he says."&nbsp;

Make sure to be safe this Fourth of July weekend St. Joseph fire officials say

A bomb threat at the north St. Joseph Walmart turned out to be
nothing, but did prompt the store to evacuate all employees and customers.

St. Joseph police say Walmart officials reported receiving a
bomb threat shortly after eight o’clock Wednesday night. Officers responded.
The store cleared about 20 employees and numerous shoppers so a manual search
could be made. Nothing was found.

Operations at the Walmart on North Belt Highway resumed around
9:30.

Child care is becoming harder and harder to find following the coronavirus pandemic.&nbsp;

And that might be keeping some people from reentering the workforce.&nbsp;

St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce President Natalie Redmond says the pandemic put northwest Missouri in a "child care desert."

"As well as issues with folks being able to get to daycare, so not only do we have the desert but obviously that's impacting small businesses," Redmond tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr. "So, there was some money released last week from the state for childcare reimbursement."&nbsp;

Redmond says the chamber will be getting information out to small business owners that have applied for that money.&nbsp; She says though that still doesn't fully help with the desert.&nbsp;

Natalie Redmond says during the pandemic, while everyone was stuck at home, childcare became unnecessary.&nbsp;

"So, a lot of your in home or smaller daycare closed during COVID because the parents were shut down, they weren't needing daycare, maybe they didn't need daycare for a year, so that business just never reopened, so we're seeing a lot of the smaller in-home daycares never reopened," Redmond explains.&nbsp;

But Redmond says other government changes during the pandemic added some extra hoops in the form of regulations making things more difficult. &nbsp;

"So, you had a lot of these, maybe a grandma who was doing childcare out of her home, it just wasn't worth it to her because of the hoops she had to jump through for regulations to open a childcare," Redmond says. "So, it's one of those things, we want children to be safe but it's also one of those government overreaches on a small business so there kind of has to be some middle ground."&nbsp;

Redmond says the state is currently working to find that middle ground to get more child care centers open.&nbsp;

By MATT PIKE&nbsp;St. Joseph Post&nbsp;Child care is becoming harder and harder to find following the coronavirus pandemic.&nbsp;And that might be keeping some people from reentering the workforce.&nbsp;St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce President Natalie Redmond says the pandemic put northwest Missouri in a "child care desert.""As well as issues with folks being able to get to daycare, so not only do we have the desert but obviously that's impacting small businesses," Redmond tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr. "So, there was some money released last week from the state for childcare reimbursement."&nbsp;Redmond says the chamber will be getting information out to small business owners that have applied for that money.&nbsp; She says though that still doesn't fully help with the desert.&nbsp;Natalie Redmond says during the pandemic, while everyone was stuck at home, childcare became unnecessary.&nbsp;"So, a lot of your in home or smaller daycare closed during COVID because the parents were shut down, they weren't needing daycare, maybe they didn't need daycare for a year, so that business just never reopened, so we're seeing a lot of the smaller in-home daycares never reopened," Redmond explains.&nbsp;But Redmond says other government changes during the pandemic added some extra hoops in the form of regulations making things more difficult. &nbsp;"So, you had a lot of these, maybe a grandma who was doing childcare out of her home, it just wasn't worth it to her because of the hoops she had to jump through for regulations to open a childcare," Redmond says. "So, it's one of those things, we want children to be safe but it's also one of those government overreaches on a small business so there kind of has to be some middle ground."&nbsp;Redmond says the state is currently working to find that middle ground to get more child care centers open.&nbsp;

ATCHISON COUNTY, Kan. —Law enforcement authorities are investigating damage to the exterior of a home in the 1200 block of Mound Street in Atchison as arson. 

&nbsp;The damage was caused by fireworks being projected at a porch area of the house around midnight on Tuesday night, according to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Residents extinguished the fire caused by the fireworks before police and fire arrived on the scene. Police are following leads, according to Wilson.

WORTH COUNTY—Two people died just before 7:30p.m. Tuesday in Worth County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2017 Ford F350 driven by Robert M. Moad, 37, Denver, Missouri, was westbound on CR 170 three miles southeast of Allendale.

As the pickup crested a hill, the vehicle skidded across the center of the road and struck an eastbound 2014 Honda ATV driven by Jorge L. Calvo, 52, Hialeah, Florida.&nbsp; After impact the ATV overturned and came to rest under the truck.

MU Healthcare Lifeflight transported Calvo to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where he died.

Worth County ambulance transported a passenger on the ATV identified as 55-year-old Zulema Mederos of Hialeah, Florida to Mosaic in Albany where she died. 

Gentry County ambulance transported Moad and a passenger in the Ford Melissa K. Percell, 41, Denver, Missouri, to&nbsp; Mosaic of Albany for treatment of minor injuries. The occupants of the Ford were not wearing seat belts and the occupants on the ATV were not wearing helmets, according to the MSHP.

Buchanan County is close to awarding American Rescue Plan Funding for several ongoing projects mostly dealing with critical infrastructure.

 Buchanan County Presiding Commissioner Lee Sawyer says one of those projects deals with improving rural broadband in the county.

"The (Missouri) Department of Economic Development, through this budget that the legislature put together and that the governor (Mike Parson) is yet to sign, there's a big chunk of money that's been put in for rural broadband," Sawyer said. "So, it's us trying to take our dollars and try to match with that."&nbsp;

Buchanan County is setting aside around $2 million from the American Rescue Plan for rural broadband improvement. The county is working closely with United Fiber -&nbsp; a Savannah-based fiber-optic network that provides high speed broadband services to rural areas in the northwest part of the state.

Sawyer says another $280,000 will go toward new sewer pumps at Lake Contrary, replacing current pumps that are close to 50 years old.

"This will really change how they can treat their water and how that works," he said. "It fits really well within the American Rescue Plan, because it's considered wastewater infrastructure."

Another $160,000 will go toward a new waterline at River Ridge Road. Buchanan County was allocated about $17 million from the American Rescue Plan in total.

This money is also going toward things like education and economic development, including the Hillyard Technical Center. To help aid economic development, Buchanan County is very close to finishing its new comprehensive plan - something that hadn't been updated since 1996.

Sawyer says a draft of this 128-page plan is up on the county's website right now.

"It'll be a nice document to be able to share and send if people really want to get in depth about what's going on in the county."

Sawyer says the county's employment numbers, graduation rate, income levels and population information are all included in the plan, along with in depth planning and zoning guidance.

Sawyer is hopeful that this plan can be a helpful guide for anyone looking to start a business within the county. He also hopes that will lead to more people making their home in the county as well.

"We'd love to see population increase between 2020 and the next census," he said. "That's another metric we put in (the comprehensive plan) is population, because we have to change that trend."

Buchanan County saw a 4.9 percent population decrease from 2010 - 2020.

Buchanan County close to awarding first ARPA funds, finalizing Comprehensive Plan

BUCHANAN COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before 10:30a.m. Tuesday in Buchanan County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2021 Peterbilt semi driven by Logan S. Strawderman, 34, Frontenac, Kan., was southbound on Interstate 29 two miles south of Faucett.

The semi rear-ended a 2021 Chevy Spark driven by Amy J. Schiffer, 46, Chase City, Virginia, that had slowed due to a mechanical defect. After impact, the Chevy traveled off the road and struck a guardrail.&nbsp;

Buchanan County EMS transported Schiffer to Mosaic Life Care. Strawderman was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Woman hospitalized after Buchanan Co. rear-end crash

WASHINGTON&nbsp;– U.S. Senators Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall announced Monday that the Architect of the Capitol approved the placement of Amelia Earhart’s statue in the U.S. Capitol. The Congressional Statue Dedication Ceremony will take place on July 27, 2022, according to a media release from Moran's office.

“The statue of Amelia Earhart – the most famous woman in aviation and in Kansas history – will officially be placed in the United States Capitol,”&nbsp;said Sen. The driver lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected. The SUV traveled off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned.

Grundy County EMS transported Knapp, her 7-year-old son and a second passenger identified as Brandon D. Burkhardt, 29, of Trenton to Wright Memorial Hospital.The adults were not wearing seat belts, according to the MSHP.

2 adults, 7-year-old hospitalized after SUV overturns

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect after a weekend chase across state lines.

Just before 5 a.m. Saturday, officers attempted to stop a pickup truck pulling a trailer in the area of 10th and U.S.59, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.&nbsp; Police were following a tip&nbsp;that the truck was stolen. 

The vehicle fled westbound on U.S.59 and subsequently into the Branchton area and then back to U.S.59 where it went eastbound and into Missouri. 

At that point an Atchison County sheriff's deputy pursued the vehicle into Missouri. The vehicle continued to flee but returned eastbound and was on the Amelia Earhart bridge when he saw APD patrol cars on the west side of the bridge and turned around on the bridge and was again eastbound on U.S.59. 

A police officer on the east end of the bridge deployed stop sticks and while doing so the stop stick cord, which the officer was holding, made contact with the fleeing vehicle and trailer and injured the officer's hand. 

&nbsp;The officer was treated for that injury at an area hospital and released, according to Wilson.

The Atchison County Sheriff's deputy continued to pursue the vehicle into Platte County where the vehicle was stopped by Platte County deputies and took the driver identified as 29-year-old Michael Diblasi0, according to online jail records,&nbsp; into custody. He remains jailed without bond.

There was a motorcycle on that trailer that had been stolen from the 200 block North 9th Street in Atchison, according to Wilson.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2004 Ford Explorer driven by 85-year-old Charles I. Hamilton of Barnard, was northbound on U.S. 71 five miles south of Maryville.

The SUV traveled off the east side of the road and struck an embankment. Nodaway County EMS transported Hamilton to Mosaic in Maryville. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

85-year-old Missouri man injured in Nodaway Co. crash

Abortion is now effectively illegal in the state of Missouri. This after the Supreme Court's 6-3 decision Friday to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, turning abortion rights back over to the states.

Dr. Jessica Gracey, an associate professor of political science at Northwest Missouri State University, says other laws, such as the right to birth control or even same sex marriage, may be targeted by the high court next.

"Clarence Thomas actually called out some of those decisions in his opinion," Gracey said. "Those things might also be at risk, so I think it's a very significant ruling."

The only exception to the abortion ban in Missouri is if the mother’s life is in danger. In 2019, the Missouri General Assembly passed House Bill 126, which contains a so-called “trigger ban” prohibiting nearly all abortions in the state.

The trigger law makes it a class B felony to induce an abortion in Missouri, and can carry prison sentences 5-15 years.

This ruling has been celebrated by many Missouri politicians, including governor Mike Parson and attorney general Eric Schmitt.

In fact, Schmitt, who is vying for a U.S. Senate seat, issued an opinion that “triggers” parts of Missouri’s House Bill 126, effectively ending abortion in the state, and making Missouri the first state to enact such a ban.

Gracey says Schmitt was prepared for this, and that move could be for political gain.

"Everyone knew this was coming, so I think he was very prepared to be the first," she said. "He's certainly, of course, hoping that helps him in his campaign in the August primary."

Gracey says the only way the abortion ban in Missouri could be overturned is if Democrats gained control of the State senate. Right now, Republicans control the State senate 24-10.

Gracey says Missouri faces an uphill battle in terms of overturning the abortion ban that is now in place after the high court's decision.

"I think it would be very difficult for Democrats to get enough votes to get control of the Legislature," she said. "That's where we'd actually see something change legally. Because, this decision didn't ban abortion. It just allowed states to ban abortion if they want to, and Missouri, of course, has."

In 2019, the Missouri General Assembly passed House Bill 126, which contains a so-called “trigger ban” prohibiting nearly all abortions in the state.The trigger law makes it a class B felony to induce an abortion in Missouri, and can carry prison sentences 5-15 years.This ruling has been celebrated by many Missouri politicians, including governor Mike Parson and attorney general Eric Schmitt.In fact, Schmitt, who is vying for a U.S. Senate seat, issued an opinion that “triggers” parts of Missouri’s House Bill 126, effectively ending abortion in the state, and making Missouri the first state to enact such a ban.Gracey says Schmitt was prepared for this, and that move could be for political gain."Everyone knew this was coming, so I think he was very prepared to be the first," she said. "He's certainly, of course, hoping that helps him in his campaign in the August primary."Gracey says the only way the abortion ban in Missouri could be overturned is if Democrats gained control of the State senate. Right now, Republicans control the State senate 24-10.Gracey says Missouri faces an uphill battle in terms of overturning the abortion ban that is now in place after the high court's decision."I think it would be very difficult for Democrats to get enough votes to get control of the Legislature," she said. "That's where we'd actually see something change legally. Because, this decision didn't ban abortion. A number of St. Joseph Mustangs fans will attend Tuesday's makeup game against Jefferson City. &nbsp;

An anonymous donor purchased 1,000 free tickets to be given away by the St. Joseph Mustangs.

Mustangs Owner Ky Turner says he was taken aback by the large donation.&nbsp;

"It was a nice surprise and that's just why I tell people all the time St. Joe is such a great community and people have just got to sometimes look around and see some of the nice things that we have here, the great people that make up this community," Turner tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "And so, it was a pleasant surprise and I think it's just reflective of where we're at here."&nbsp;

The game Tuesday is a makeup of the Mustangs June 11th contest against the Renegades which got rained out. First pitch is at 7pm and gates open at 5:30.&nbsp;

Turner says he always tells people that on the other side of the rain, there's a little bit of a rainbow. &nbsp;

"Someone just saw an opportunity and wanted to do something nice in general and they identified that date," Turner explains.&nbsp;

Turner says it's funny sometimes how things work out.&nbsp;

"That's what has happened tomorrow night, originally we weren't supposed to be playing tomorrow night and this worked out perfect with the anonymous donor and it's just something that's part of the St. Joe community and the Mustangs experience."&nbsp;

The tickets got claimed quickly after the Mustangs announced they were available last week, which Turner says blew him away.&nbsp; &nbsp;

"Yeah, I mean it went fast the response was insane," Turner says. "I was taken aback by the initial donation but then for it to be claimed as quick as it was it speaks to how special of a community this is on the fact that A someone wanted to do that and then B the response like that was just, it was great."&nbsp;

Turner says the front office also kicked in some free tickets, so more than a thousand were given away.&nbsp;

The Mustangs are 15-8 on the season as of Monday and host Clarinda on Monday night at 7 p.m.&nbsp;

Anonymous donor gives away 1000 free tickets to Tuesday Mustangs game

St. Joseph police are currently investigating a robbery that took place Sunday night. &nbsp;

St. Joseph Police report that a robbery took place at approximately 11:47 pm at the Walgreens located at Belt and Frederick in St. Joseph. &nbsp;

Police say that a man walked into Walgreens and attempted to steal some items before being confronted by an employee.&nbsp; When confronted the suspect pulled a gun on the employee and proceeded to take money from the cash register before fleeing west on Frederick. &nbsp;

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a black sweatshirt with a hood, black pants, and a white mask.&nbsp; The investigation is ongoing.&nbsp;

St. Joseph Police investigating Sunday night Walgreens robbery

ATCHISON COUNTY, MO. —A Missouri man was injured in an accident just after noon Saturday in Atchison County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Joseph L. Rhodes, 41, Mound City, was southbound on Route O three miles northeast of Tarkio.&nbsp;

Rhodes, 41, Mound City, was southbound on Route O three miles northeast of Tarkio.&nbsp;The motorcycle traveled into the northbound lane. A northbound 2007 Chevy Silverado driven by Daniel P. Beckman, 45, Watson, struck the motorcycle.&nbsp;Lifenet transported Rhodes to Mosaic Life Care. Beckman was properly restrained and not injured. Rhodes was not wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.
